It is December. The chilling winter outside, however, didn't stop the lesson for today, as the room on the third floor looked more spacious, but nice and toasty. Despite the larger classroom, everything seemed decorated per usual, interesting. Professor Feirgrund stood patiently by the classroom door to greet all who entered. Go on ahead and head inside to take your usual spot; you're free to chat quietly among yourselves until the lesson begins.

CHARMS LESSON!!!
That meant a Dad E lesson! Id practically skipped his way to the classroom with Paul by his side. Of course his boyfriend wasn’t skipping but that was okay; the Gryffindor was quite skippy enough for the both of them. And because it got warmer as they approached the classroom, he completely forgot about the fact that it was quite frosty outside.
“Hi, Professor!” He beamed and resisted the urge to throw his arms around the man, instead going ahead to take a seat. Just what could today’s lesson be about?

The weather getting colder was not Avalon's favorite, so the warmth that enveloped her the moment she entered the Charms classroom was appreciated. Merlin, why couldn't it be warm like this ALL the time?
But that was a complaint for another time.
"Hi, Professor!" She smiled at Professor Feirgrund before turning to find a seat. Idris and Paul got a smile too as she passed by, hurrying to grab a seat in the back. Once she planted herself into an empty one, she plopped her bag on the floor next to her and pulled out her notes and textbook.

Charms was ALWAYS fun and Aurora was looking forward to the lesson as she always was. It also helped that there were warming charms to help with the cold. Aurora did like the winter because it was pretty, but she wasn’t a big fan of how cold it could get. Heating charms were amazing.
Making her way into the classroom, she noticed that things were looking more spacious than usual. That further piqued her interest. She guessed that it related to the activity they would be doing. How exciting!
”Hello, Professor!” BEAM. She waved at Avalon before grinning at Idris and Paul. She took her seat at the other side of Idris. She could see that he was practically bouncing with excitement. But it was a Dad E lesson, so that was to be expected.
As JT passed Professor Feirgrund on the way into the Charms classroom he greeted with a weak beam "Hello Professor Feirgrund!" before going to find his usual seat in the second row near the other seated students. The castle was cold, and JT was cold to the bone, but glad for the heating charms in the unusually spacious classroom. Maybe Professor Feirgrund could teach them all some handy heating charms so that they could warm up their cold fingers? JT feared that he'd wouldn't be able to hold his wand properly when they'd eventually would be practicing charms and that could lead to trouble this sixth year snake youth didn't want to envision.

Having your own kiddo in class required a great deal of self-control, Feirgrund smiled, "Hello, Master Grunt." He greeted, quite aware of the signs as Idris's arms seemed to have twitched before he went over to his usual seat with his usual companion.

"Hello, Miss Dane." Feirgrund greeted. It was lovely seeing the enthusiasm in his students who arrived. Certainly, the enthusiasm won't falter at what was in store for the lesson today?

After enough time had passed, it came time for the lesson to begin at last. Feirgrund waited as the last set of students arrived before he shut the door. Walking to the front of the class, he tapped the board enough times.
"Good day, everyone," Ean addressed the class once the chatter died away. "I'm pleased to see some enthusiasm arriving in, as you'll be in for a treat today. Given the weather, we will have it take place in this very room." Closing some of the mystery on the room looking more spacious. "But first, one at time, please share an item you deeply desire or even an item you already own that is your favorite?" There were usually no wrong answers or reactions here... within reason.

Avalon got a big smile, as did Aurora when she sat next to him. “How’s Oreo?” he whispered, always keen on knowing the wellbeing of cats.
Soon enough, the lesson was starting with Dad E tapping on the board to get their attention. Enthusiasm? Yes, Idris had a lot of that! And it was bound to grow once the lesson progressed, he was sure of this. As for an answer to that question? Id’s hand shot into the air. “He’s not an item exactly but Nesquik! My 1/4 part Kneazle cat!” Nessy had brought him great happiness since the day he came into his life.

How was Oreo? Aurora grinned at Idris. “He’s doing great! Though he didn’t want me to leave him and go to class.” She rolled her eyes in amusement. She loved her silly kitty. ”How is Nessy?” She made sure to whisper even though class hadn’t started yet.
Aurora was intrigued to see what Professor Feirgrund was planning. He kind of answered some of the mystery, but really he ended up giving Aurora more questions she wanted to ask. Oh well. She was patient. Everything would be revealed soon enough. Though Idris’ infectious excitement wasn’t helping matters there. He was still practically bouncing in his seat. It made her smile. He really loved Dad E.
She raised her hand. ”I second Idris with my tuxedo cat, Oreo. I also have a very special locket that my grandma gave me. I wear it all the time.” As she spoke she touched where it was under her robe. ”It has a photo of me and her in it. So I can keep her close.” Aurora had been very close to her grandma, and it had hit her hard when she died. But she was happy to have all the memories and to be able to keep her close.

It was lovely hearing students share a few of their favorite things. Feirgrund was pleasantly surprised by the cats mentioned. A particular image came to mind before he also shared. "Thank you all for sharing." He said once everyone had their turn, it took courage to reveal even the most personal ones, he imagined.
"Now you were asked these specific items in part of today's lesson. We will be reviewing the Summoning Charm, Accio." Cue any applause, not that Ean expected any. "This won't be a lecture, I assure you. Before we get to making use of the spell, ponder this, with the item you shared or thought of, in what event would the Summoning Charm be useful for you?" There were usually no wrong answers or reactions here... within reason.

It made sense that Oreo didn’t want Rory to leave to go to class. Id had experienced that with Nes, when his pink furbaby had flopped over his chest. He opened his mouth to tell his friend that Nessy was doing quite well, that he was having a grand time with some treats when the lesson started. Instead, Id just flashed her a thumbs up, indicating a positive to her question and it meant that Nes was great.
Needless to say he was super pleased when Rory sort of mirrored his reply, the Gryffindor could not help but feel absolute delight. He threw her the biggest grin, a happy endorsement of her answer. And Dad E hit the nail on the head: creatures were indeed treasures, especially one’s pet or pets.
The sixth year thought now about the second question. It didn’t take him long to raise his hand again. “When I’m feeling overwhelmed by homework and studies, and Nessy is off on one of his adventures. I’d summon him for hugs, snuggles and cuddles.” He mimed holding his little familiar close to his chest But then a scary thought occurred to him. “Professor, what if Nessy is outdoors at night and I Summon him. Since mostly everywhere will be locked, does that mean the spell will make him come crashing through windows?”

So they were going to be covering Accio. It was a spell she was very familiar with, but the lesson was still sure to be fun. And she could definitely understand why Idris would want to use the spell in order to give Nessy snuggles. He was VERY snuggly, as was Oreo.
Since she always wore her locket, she decided to answer in terms of Oreo. ”Well, I’d never want to use the spell on my cat.” Just putting that out there. She didn’t want to use ANY magic on him. ”But I would if I felt that it was absolutely necessary to. Like if he was in danger, so I could have him safe with me.” Which she obviously hoped would never happen.

Ean paused for a moment, considering the fact. Since they both were interested in using it for good and not for experimentation. "It depends on the location. One good thing to note is, windows won't shatter and walls won't be busted through when using the summoning charm. They go through the most fitting opening so at night, they'd likely go through the chimney and fireplace if all doors and windows are bolted." Of course, he hadn't expected creatures to be on the list of objects, but still, even so, the answer wasn't wrong. "Naturally, anyone would want their pet to return to them just as easily without the spell. So even the most advanced Charms expert would avoid using it on an animal outside dire situations. But same principles apply with an object, they will go through any fitting opening to reach the summoner."
Now then, students were surely anticipating today's activity. "Alright, the Summoning Charm." Ean using his wand to tap against the board. "The charm is called, AH-kee-oh, repeat after me, Accio." Once everyone had repeated it on cue. "Excellent."

Id honestly wanted to cry at the thought of his Nessy being injured should he ever be Summoned. His cute, flouffy pink baby But Dad E’s response made all his worries disappear in the blink of an eye. True, the Gryffindor still felt like he could burst into tears. Only now, he would be sobbing due to happiness and relief. Rather than risk it, he simply nodded. It was good to know that Nessy would be safe should the need to Summon him arise.
The sixth year busied himself with making notes, taking care to make a prominent one with regard to avoid using it on animals. Oh, and he certainly found it fascinating, that narration Flatworthy. He also fully agreed with the words about being responsible. He saw what you did there with that pun, Dad E!
Then it was time to practise!
Id started with the wand movement, tracing it in the shape of a mouth curved in sadness. Because that was all he could see it as, and it made him think of how Paul had been all through the previous summer. After a minute of tracing, he switched to the incantation. “AH-kee-oh. AH-kee-oh. Accio. Accio.” The young man eyed Paully’s quill, the perfect target. But then another question sprang to mind.
His hand made its way up. “Da - I mean, Professor.’’ Woops! Slip of the tongue there. “Is it absolutely necessary to put the name of the thing we’re Summoning at the end of the incantation? So if I’m Summoning a quill, do I say ‘Accio quill’?” And what if he did actually ever want to Summon Nessy? Did he say ‘Accio Nesquik?’ Would his Nessy come zooming at him, or would the delicious beverage mix?

Even though Aurora already knew about Accio and had plenty of practice using the spell, she took thorough notes on everything that Professor Feirgrund was saying. It could be a very useful spell even if she didn’t use it too often, preferring to just get things herself on the most part. But it could be great when something was out of reach.
That done, she began practicing the spell even though she didn’t really need to at this point. ” AH-kee-oh. AH-kee-oh. Accio. Accio.” That done, she started to work on the wand movement. As she practiced she listened to Idris ask a question. She could see the look of confusion on his face and wondered how he had muddled his thoughts.

Feirgrund didn't pay any mind to the slip of the tongue, sometimes it happens. But the question was worthy of addressing, "Good question, Master Grunt. Some of Id’s confusion cleared when Dad E addressed his question. He nodded his understanding. “Thanks for clearing that up, Professor!” He proceeded to make his notes, thinking that later he could bother the man with his Nesquik dilemma later. For now, he was ready to go back to practise, his mind still determined to ‘steal’ his Paully’s quill. But first, he took a look over at Aurora. “Any trouble?” He doubted it; his friend was quite capable.
Now, the Gryffindor zoned in on Paul’s quill. “Accio!” He squinted, thoroughly focused on the object as he practised nonverbally. Still fairly new to nonverbal spells, it was really no surprise that absolutely nothing happened. “Accio!” Yes, the sad smile wand movement was being done, and quite fluidly and confidently too. Maybe the quill was simply stubborn or Idris averse.
How very rude of it.
“Accio!” The third time was the charm {no pun intended}! With the wand movement also repeated, the quill upped itself so fast and zoomed over to Id that he hadn’t time to catch it. The feather hit his face with gusto but he hardly noticed. What mattered was that he was successful!

After what she felt was enough practice, Aurora was ready to move on to using Accio on her quill. This was going to be easy since it was far from the first time she had used the spell, but she didn’t mind at all. This was a handy spell for her classmates to learn.
She shook her head at Idris and sent him another smile along with a thumbs up. It was nice of him to check in with her. And she was sure that he was just as capable with this spell. They had both taken their OWLs after all.
Aurora watched as Idris had a bit of difficulty before finally the quill came to him. ”Good job!” Nonverbal magic was a lot trickier and he had done a great job with it. And now it was her turn. She pointed her wand towards her quill and made an arch. ”Accio.” It flew towards her and she caught it. She wondered if she should try practicing the spell nonverbally like Idris. She really did need to get better at nonverbal magic.

Tiffany had been pondering on deeply desired items, with Idris and Aurora both talking about their kneazles and then Professor Feirgrund moved on to asking how the summoning charm would be useful. Oh well that explained the item they desired, but she was almost sure you couldn't summon living things?
She was grateful when the Professor touched upon that where most charms experts would avoid using it on animals. It definitely seemed borderline animal cruelty.
What did she want to summon? He said they could practice their quills for some light practice, but that seemed almost too easy since they were right in front of them....
Deciding to drop it on the floor, Tiffany closed her eyes, picturing the quill. She'd never attempted nonverbal, but it seemed this might be a good place to attempt it first. Accio quill, she willed herself to think of the quill on the floor. To imagine it zooming upwards. It floated upwards a few millimeters off the ground, hovering and then collapsed again. Not a bad first attempt.

Text Cut: Observation
Ean continued observing the class, seeing Master Grunt eventually master nonverbal so quickly, wasn't too surprising. It was an early spell and their time spent outside class with extra help. He wondered if they would help share the knowledge?
Miss Bay was also working splendidly. Her concentration was well noted as she complimented Master Grunt's work after. She was just as successful with the Charm, "Great work." He too was curious on her future attempts with nonverbal.
Miss Rose may have been quiet, but her presence was noticed and appreciated as with the other students. Her focus translated into her attempt with summoning. Feirgrund nodded at her choosing to widen the distance with her attempt on summoning her quill. "Good, keep it up." Not wanting her to give on her next attempt.
After a few more minutes of observing, Ean checked to see the time had now called for them to press on. "Alright everyone, the moment you've been waiting for. Up off your chairs and first step over here close to the board." The sounds of chairs shuffling and feet scrambling over sounded while he waited. It wasn't until every student was by the board that he took a step forward toward the empty seatting.
"Today we'll be playing a familiar game to some of you who had taken part in the Woodcroft Games. The Summoner's Court." Ean give a small smile. "It is a quaint but thrilling game taking part of your mind to encourage concentration while adding a bit of fun with summoning." With a few wand movements, the seating and desks began to move to the walls, followed by the floor rising up, changing the colors to reveal four painted colors, with the point marker indicating each block. A platform below Ean's feet rose a little higher than the marked floors. The sound of what resembled a hatch door opening came from above, and a few colored balls fell from the ceiling to bounce onto the floors as well.

"Now, with Accio at your disposal. You will use it to summon one of the decorated colors. Naturally, you'll want to avoid it rebounding off some of the obstacles or falling completely off the edge. The object of the game is not only to focus on summoning, but on the timing of when to let go. You'll also want to steer your wand a little bit to direct them from a straight pull." Now how do they let go? "As you know, Finite Incantatum, is the main charm to end all spells. But with the Summoning Charm, you can simply end your concentration without that. This can include a simple sigh of relief to lowering your wand quickly. Just be aware ending it won't completely stop the ball from rolling forward right away with the delayed reaction."
"Like so." Feirgrund was already at the starting point, so he aimed at one of the red balls. "Accio." His arm was still extended out as the ball proceeded to move forward rolling, before he lowered his wand to walk to the side so other students could see the ball slow to a crawl, ending just passed the border of 30 and 50-point markers.
"Once you're ready, you can step forward, one at a time, and simply use 'Accio' to pull the ball of your choice. Right now, there's no physical obstacles standing in your wand, but that may change overtime, depending on how well you do. Once you had your turn, you can head to the back of the line to retry again." Sounded simple, right? "If you feel like accelerating the challenge with obstacles, you can let me know once you step forward."
One more thing, "And yes, there will be a nice reward depending on your final score." Nothing like an extra incentive.
OOC: Thank you for waiting! Now it's time for Summoner's Court. You can either rp the actions of your character with the help of a randomizer, or if you would like a bit of mystery added to the results, tell the Professor, 'I got this' and The Narrator will add a bit of spice to the results.

The way he and Rory supported each other! It was one of the reasons Idris lived for this friendship. “Thanks,’’ he whispered. “I actually can’t believe it worked.” He marveled at the fact as he handed the boyfriend the quill. Id also let Paul know that if he needed help, he was there for him. As for Rory’s work? It was spectacular! “You’re a natural!’’ the guy gushed, loving to see his friend succeed! And yes, Id would love to share his knowledge given the chance, Dad E!
But now it was time for the lesson to move on and this sixth year was ready!
He wasted no time, hopping out of his seat and bouncing over to the board where he - you guessed it - stood bouncing as things were explained. Oh, the Woodcroft Games! Wasn’t that where a certain pair of Dads had a date? No? Well, in Id’s first year eyes at the time, the two had been on a date.
Anyway.
Bounce, bounce, bounce!
With excitement, he watched the classroom transform. His thoughts, aside from being impressed with all magic could do? Just that he was confident about having a good time even if his spellwork didn't turn out to be top tier. So, he joined the line, being almost at the front and waited his turn. When it came, Idris stepped up to the starting point. There was definitely no bouncing involved now as it was time to focus. “I got this, Professor!” Fingers and toes crossed this was true!
Wand tracing out the appropriate movement with his aloof arm, the sixth year’s focus fully on the green ball. “Accio!” The targeted ball began rolling in his direction.

But then a scary thought occurred to him. “Professor, what if Nessy is outdoors at night and I Summon him. Since mostly everywhere will be locked, does that mean the spell will make him come crashing through windows?” 
But Dad E’s response made all his worries disappear in the blink of an eye. True, the Gryffindor still felt like he could burst into tears. Only now, he would be sobbing due to happiness and relief. Rather than risk it, he simply nodded. It was good to know that Nessy would be safe should the need to Summon him arise.
