"Well, if you'd like to see it as a challenge, I guess it is," he said with a bit of a shrug. "In any event, we need someone and you seem to be qualified." |
Edward thinks it over for a moment. I can't let the woman face the Wizengamot without representation. I guess you've got yourself a defense attorney. |

Though, of course, it would be missing a beginning - at least, the 'real' beginning. Royda had, after all, arrived on the scene only after the basics of Corranda's little charm had been thoroughly overviewed. Oh well. When the time would come, she would relate as much as she had seen and been through. Well and good, no? |

He gave Edward a pat on the shoulder and went back into his office. "Sorry about that," he said to Brianna since the others were still being blocked from hearing. Quote:

Brianna nodded, "It's okay...Now, what happened..." She paused, then continued, "Well, Miss Melvicks came to my office to get her charm approved. We went through the normal interrogation, but something about her made me uneasy, so I questioned her a bit more than most. When the questions didn't seem to be enough, I asked her to go and bring a witness who had seen this charm performed." She tilted her head towards Royda, "She brought Royda back with her...forcefully. It took a while to calm everything down from that spectacular entrance, then we started questioning Royda. Her answers were all appropriate and said specifically what we were looking for: A non-harmful spell, with no side effects, and so on." She paused again, this was where it got tricky. "Royda didn't know what she was saying...she was under a spell of some kind, I'm not exactly sure, but the symptoms appear to be those of the Imperius curse." She leaned forward, towards Syd, trying to impart the importance of her next words, "Then I approved the charm due to a lack of evidence against it, but still against my better judgement. Miss Melvicks offered everyone a drink of celebration, which sadly I accepted. I had a horrible headache and just wanted her out of my office, and this seemed to be the quickest way." She flushed and cast her eyes down to the floor, "I knew better, but I just wasn't thinking clearly, so technically the entire following fiasco was my fault, in a way." She glanced back up, and continued painfully, "The potion made us all sick, then she threw love potions at everyone, in a haphazard sort of way, some met the mark, some didn't....Then things were exploding...that's what the spell really did, it created explosions...She was invisible, so we couldn't find her right away. But eventually, and with help, we were all able to get out and capture her so she couldn't do anything else." "That's about it, but in condensed form." Brianna said, looking up at him, still feeling guilty about the entire thing, but knowing she had to tell the truth about every aspect. |
"I see," said Syd, nodding. "So this spell that she was applying to get approved wasn't preformed before the problems ensued?" He looked up at this Royda woman, glad she couldn't hear. Last thing he needed was outbursts... "And how did Miss Melvicks become invisible? Cloak? Spell?" he asked her, trying to make sure to get these memories while they were fresh. The defense would probably call out some of these points, but Syd would make sure that they couldn't prove anything with evidence. That reminded him that he needed an evidence list and all the evidence that Forrester had. |

Syd took the parchment and nodded to Brianna. Infinite successes with three failures? That was a rather large contradiction. He would have to make a copy and give it to Forrester for filing. "I see," Syd said, looking back up at Brianna. "I think that's all, thank you." He lifted the charm so that everyone could hear again. This time he looked to the Royda woman. Motioning toward her, he looked her in the eye. "Ms. Dames, is it?" |
Piper watched as her boss got interrogated and Royda was up next... She needed to wait a bit more before she gets questionned herself. |

"Yes," she said politely, not sure what else to say. "Royda Dames." She sort of wanted to tell him she preferred being called Royda, because Miss Dames sounded pretty, pretty odd to her, but she didn't think it was the right time, so she didn't. Also, she was a little nervous. That was natural, right? Royda looked to her side, and saw Piper, whom she smiled a little at. It was good to have someone else whose first day it was, around. |
"Alright Ms. Dames," Syd said, flicking his wand to cast the muffliato again. "If you would please tell me what you saw." He shifted parchment sheets so that the quill could easily take notes without mixing them up with Brianna's. Hopefully the stories would match. |
Brianna looked around. She was unable to hear what was going on and what Royda was telling Syd, but she was patiently waiting to hear the results of these interrogations. Sitting back in her chair, she let her mind wander back over the previous events and wondered what she could have done differently for this to have not ended up this way. |
A small piece of paper flew towards Syd's office and opened itself. Quote:

"Well, Corrandadada came to me - You know, I was really trying to shop, man, but she just took me away. I didn't want to, but she forced me to. And there were all these big employees and Heads and stuff. They asked me some questions, I think, but I really don't remember what I answered. And now Miss Brianna says I was under the Imperius curse. I think I was, but I can't remember because Corrandadada modified my memory - at least, I think she did, but I can't be sure, because she didn't cast any charm out loud." She stopped, to breathe, before continuing. "Corrandada offered everyone a celebratory drink after her charm had been approved. And then Brianna and Madeline and I and Jayden, we all drank it. And we started vomitting. And Brianna caused lots of mayhem and there were broken chairs and snow and water and there was this poisonous gas, too so we couldn't breathe. And Jeremy and Brianna were trying to help and Jeremy got frostbite and Brianna managed to tie up Corrandada in the end, and Piper disarmed her after her hands had been tied. And then lots of other people came too - Mr Forrestor and some other people. And I gave Corrandada some antlers on her head, and -" She stopped, confused. She was babbling now, because she was nervous, and also well aware of the teensy stain of dirt on the sleeve of her skirt. How awful, no? |
Syd did his best to follow the woman's line of thinking. It wasn't exactly easy, but at least her story some what matched that of Brianna's. He tapped his desk with a finger and nodded in thought until she stopped speaking. Apparently her sleeve was more important. "Yes, well, thank you. I don't think you'll need to be summoned unless it's absolutely necessary," he told her before she could start again. Unless the defense forced the subpoena that is... Then he noticed the letter flutter in. Great... A death at the school too? Forrester and Vanhatck were on it though so he figured it could wait before he poked his nose in. He flicked his wand to undo the charm and looked to Piper, "Alright, Ms. Underwood?" |
Piper got up and moved towards the head departement of law enforcement and sat down in front of him. She took a long but silent breath and waited for the questions to pour down. From what she noticed earlier, all the witnesses has spent little time, which meant that they only answer viewer questions... Hopefully that will be the case as well for her. |
Syd flicked his wand again and set the charm up so that the others couldn't hear. He organized a new sheet of paper up and got the quill ready to start transcribing. "Ms. Underwood, if you'd be so kind as to tell me what you witnessed earlier in relation to this Ms. Melvicks." |
"Well lets see..." Piper started as she tried to relive the whole experience all over again. " The day started like any other day, until we had to approve the charm of Ms. Melvicks...Well, Ms Melvicks came to the office. We went through the normal interrogation, I was so intrigued and curious about this specific conceilment charm, because as a charm creator myself I had to acknowlege the brilliancy of such work... Well at least, till I met this Ms. Melvicks... She was like every old lady demanding and very authoritic like she expected us to do everything she wants... Anyway when the questions didn't seem to be enough for miss Brianna, she asked her to go and bring a witness who had seen this charm performed... I wanted to interfer and maybe sugest that one of us might go... But I didn't want to counter-act my boss..." Explained Piper but making sure to speak of every detail. "She brought Royda back with her using force. It took a couple of minutes to calm everything down after I used a silence Charm on Royda to keep her from yelling, then we started questioning Royda. Her answers were all appropriate and said specifically what we were looking for: A non-harmful spell, with no side effects... But something seemed strange with Royda as if she under a spell maybe confunded but with the signs she showed I might say she was under the Imperius curse... Well after my boss seemed okey with approving the charm, and I think she that to get of Ms. Melvicks because she was really started to get annoying, Ms. Melvicks offered us drinks..." Piper continued as she started to come to the end of her story. "At that point I wouldn't trust that woman even if it was to save my life... Anyway before taking the glass I casted one of my approved spells without no one noticing to trick them in believing that I was drinking that drink... And from here on, it was total mahem... Everyone got sick... Ms Melvicks used love potions... She tried to kill me but was I escaped seeing that she was trying to kill my illusion... Then she disappeared and thinks started to explode... Rain... Snow... Ice... The office turned to a living hell... After thinks got a bit calm... I decided to confront Ms. Melvicks and I did... Miss Brianna followed me and with her help we were able to tie her up... Then Mr. Forrester appeared and he took Ms. Melvicks and he came back to take us... And that's it.." Kelly looked at the head department, she wasn't afraid anymore and she was ready for anything she might be asked about. |
Syd nodded and knocked on his desk a bit in thought. The story added up with everyone else's. It was a pretty tight case, so there wasn't much to attack here. Though he'd had to get a test done... "So you didn't drink what was offered? You weren't affected by what was in the drinks?" he asked for clarification. "And you're sure Ms. Dames was under the Imperious curse?" |
"No I haven't... The spell I used created an illusion of myself drinking the potion but it stopped working as soon as I was hit with a spell that made my cloth want to strangle me... I'm not sure as well if Ms. Dames was under an Imperius curse but the signs indicated that... I mean the blank eyes... The confusion... The moment of hesitation and especially Ms. Melvicks... You see Ms. Melvicks isn't the type of people that just sit down and hear what people have to say... She always find a way to interfer as I noticed... But when Royda was being questionned she was quite as a rock... If you take that in consideration you will find that the only reason why Ms. Melvicks would stay quite is that she didn't want to lose concentration over Ms.Dames" Piper replied. |
Syd nodded and looked over the transcript. The woman had a point. Yes, he'd have to get the test done and make sure that the woman was under the curse. "Thank you Ms. Underwood," Syd said, lifting the charm. "Everyone, I'll need you to sign your respective sheets of parchment to verify that you testified this information." |
Piper got up and signed her name on her testemony parchements and looked over her boss, she seemed tired and a cup of her special tea will reboost her energy. "Mr. Syd do you need us for anything else?" Piper asked as she looked at the head department. " Are we going to be involved in the court session?" |
"No, no Ms. Underwood, this is fine. Though one or all of you may be called to testify in court. This was just for me to understand what happened," Syd said, filing Piper's sheet in a folder. "Other than that you're free to do as you please for now." |
Brianna stood and walked over to him, signing the paper and handing it back to him. "Thanks for taking the time to make sure you had every version of the story." She didn't know exactly what the others had said, but she just hoped that it all came through alright in the end. Sighing, she went to turn for the door, but stopped as she heard Piper speaking. When he answered no, she nodded, and turned back to the door. It was time to get back in her office and see what all could be done. |
