Conference Room

http://oi51.tinypic.com/f9qw0m.jpg

The conference room is large, and magically adjustable so that it can expand to fit the entire department if necessary. The tables and chairs are arranged in a huge oval with an open interior. This is where information and demonstrations can be magically projected for presentations and briefings, without worry that those outside the room will overhear. The room has been redecorated to a modern, clean look, complete with weather windows at the far end that look out over whichever location they are charmed for. They're not real windows so defenestration is not an option and opening them will not give you fresh air. All the chairs are exactly the same, the Department head simply sits at the top end of the table, needing no indication of his role and not particularly desiring to distance himself from his employees.

All divisions of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement are permitted to make use of the conference room, but meeting times must be booked so that there are no clashes.

You are here.

To book the room for your division, please PM Hera.

Room is in use by the Department Head.

After recieveing the official memo .... son of a banshee!... and then hearing about the meeting, Emily made her way to the Conference Room, she wasn't in a mood to go home. Really the only thing on her mind has been the Cult and how they could possibly sort out this huge mess.

Armen Recard hadn't done them any favours, and it would be interesting to see what Van had to say about it all... But either way...

She was here now.

Emily promptly took her seat at the large table and waited for the others to show up.

TeafortheSoul 08-04-2011 02:02 AM

Evander was not far behind, having detoured first to his office and then to check on proceedings in the holding rooms. But now he came into the office and spared a glance for Emily before withdrawing his wand and methodically going around the sides of the room, re-establishing and layering new wards, protective enchantments and complicated runic charms.

Nobody would get in or hear anything they weren't supposed to, that was for sure.

Tazenhani 08-04-2011 02:22 AM

He really felt like a squished bug if he was going to be honest. First, apparating licenseses were revoked. Now, they wanted to test them like they were in school again. It was bloody insulting and had put a rather significant dent in the possibility of any good mood he would have had for the evening.

Slipping into the conference room, he gave a quick glance about, nodding to Evander before moving over to sit beside Emily. "Tests. They've got to be joking." Shifting his weight on the chair, he yanked a folded page of the Prophet out from his back pocket and dropped it on the desk. "I'd like to see Berty apparate a foot without splinching himself in half."

Boy Wonder 08-04-2011 02:23 AM

Benjamin was still upset about not being able to apparate- Even more upset that he found out through the Daily Prophet. But not too long after the official memo was released, and, well, time for a meeting. Time for a word with the head-honcho.... And it would be the first time the two halves of the MLE would be together in a while.

Benjamin entered the conference room in his suit and tie, and found Emily, Sabel, and Evander. "Hello," he said, before finding a seat. "I'm glad our two tribes may come together and break bread." Someone had to keep the mood light. And that was Ben's trademark... Besides being generally awesome.

Van looked up from his work and grunted.

"I may be able to get you and Emily cleared quite fast, as it was not long ago that the two of you took your first license tests, with Armen's department, which of course means he must either reinstate the two of you or agree that his own department has faulty testing."

Van's wand traced the wall and a series of interlocking runes flashed briefly before apparently melting into the wood and stone.

And as for that. Van looked up and quirked a quick smile. Yes he WAS aware of the tension as of late.

That would be part of the meeting too. While this apparition thing was a big deal, it was still business as usual and there was plenty of that.

Dacs entered the conference room. For the first time in a long time she was tired but squared her shoulders and headed for a seat. When she sat down, she looked at Evander and "Hello Evander.". She in turn looked at Emily, Sabel and Ben and nodded to them.

She leaned back and said,"So what's up boss?"

"I know.. I feel so... insulted. Fat lump couldn't apparate full stop, look at the size of him.... I'm surprised he can move at all."

Ok... so not everyone was angry and bitter. But then again that was just Ben, always the first to crack a joke. Emily smiled, a little bigger this time.

Emily offered Van a nod in greeting.... she probably could have offered to help, but he didn't need her help.

Oh.. quicker, that was good.
Emily smirked a little, "Oh that's brilliant." Heh, yeah she could just imagine Recard's face if he had to admit his department had.... made a mistake.

She would normally wish for a familiar face in the room, but Caedwyn was just happy to get there early enough to get a seat and spread out her little notepad and quill. It was important to take careful notes.

And not to join in the conversation about Lord Borr. Everyone was absolutely entitled to their opinion, but Cade couldn't bring herself to bad mouth someone who was her superior. Especially because she rather felt sorry for him and the terrible indigestion that was surely contributing to his bad moods.

Despitie his sour mood, Sabel couldn't help the faint smile that came at Benjamin's ice breaker. It wasn't enough to lift his mood, but at least some people knew how to keep a level, reasonable head in moments like this. At th very least, it was relieving to see.

With a sigh, he poked the paper in front of him as Dacs entered, casting a side-glance to Emily that slowly turned into a grin. If there was one thing that could butter up his mood, it was hearing another bearing the same opinion as him of the Lord Borr.

....Okay there was also the possibility of getting his license back quickly. His attention turned to Evander as the department head spoke, eyes narrowing with thoughtful interest. Of course, the first thought to jump to his mind was that the faster he got the apparition license back, the sooner he could see a certain someone. Brilliant indeed.

"Kinda hope he made a mistake." Well, his whole department had made a mistake, but Sabel wanted them to admit it. To admit what they had done and own up to it.

If that wasn't dreaming of the high life, he didn't know what was.

RachieRu 08-04-2011 06:42 AM

Isobel had a feeling that this was going to be pretty awkward, considering that it was her boyfriend that had like suspended all of there licenses. But...it wasn't her, so really she didn't see that any of her collegues had any reason to treat her differently, so she wandered into the conference room, wearing a small smile on her lips. She knew what this was about, everyone would obviously. "Good afternoon..." She nodded to everyone, glancing at Emily momentarily. That lunch had not gone well. Clearing her thought quietly, she found herself a seat, and sat in it.

They all seemed to be talking about Lord Borr, but Izzy decided not to make a comment. It really wasn't that professiona, even if the man was a fat jerk. No, she'd just sit her quietly until Evander began.

Saiai 08-04-2011 08:21 AM

This was inconvenient. Very, very inconvenient. Skander had been looking things up and now he'd have to go back and re-read things to make sure they made sense. And he'd be out of his groove. Bloody transportation people! If it weren't for them this meeting probably wouldn't be happening right now. Maybe.

Finding himself a seat Skander dropped down into it, nodding at Evander and a few others he'd seen around. He carefully took a pen from his pocket along with a notepad. He may need to take notes, depending on the exact content of the meeting. And if he didn't...well it looked more like he was ready to do work than if he had nothing in front of him.

Cinn-O-Bun 08-04-2011 08:35 AM

Laurie was NOT happy as she walked into the conference room with a frown and sat down in an empty chair. One she was being called away from more important work for this and two she didn't even LIKE to apparate. It made her all queasy and just wasn't pleasant in the slightest. So why was she here?

She looked around and spotted Evander and her frown deepened. He could place blame on that other idiot she'd heard through the wall all he wanted but she had heard Bole mouth off before it all. Opening the case file she had brought with her she ignored everyone and started reading. She was here she just didn't have to be paying attention to this stuff.

Erindipity 08-04-2011 01:27 PM

Damien stomped into the conference room, took a quick look around and then made his way to the seat beside Van and plopped down. He was tired, angry, and MEH. So he took his place and waited...

Disneymaniac 08-04-2011 02:23 PM

Yes Iggy was here. He slid in the back. Because he didn't want to be seen by the creepy Aurors. But he was in attendance. He smiled at Evander. SO what was this conference about? Probably the fact that he now couldn't take his child to school before he had to be at work.

MeredithRodneyMckay 08-04-2011 04:03 PM

A meeting.

Well, it had to happen. There could possibly be people in the department who didn't read the paper, and there were only four of them privy to the Head's meeting. But he had a feeling the atmosphere wasn't going to be pretty.

With his desk backing on to the conference room, Gabe didn't have far to go. Coming to a halt in the doorway, he took a deep breath and forced some kind of smile onto his face as he entered and looked around at those already assembled. "Afternoon everyone," he said, slightly through gritted teeth, as he walked down the length of the table and eased himself into a seat opposite Damien and quite near Van. He gave his friend, and the boss, a knowing look before folding his fingers together across his chest, leaning back and crossing his legs. To wait.

Meh Reh 08-05-2011 03:51 AM

Blaise had been patrolling all day long, and had gotten late notice about the meeting. He did, however, get the official memo.

And burned it.

He stepped into the conference room and his eyes fell on one of the few women in there. He couldn't believe Isobel was sitting there like nothing was wrong. The test would be so much easier for her considering there would be major favoritism on her behalf. That was ridiculous, because he knew it would happen.

He unhappily took a seat next to Gabe, and looked around the room at everyone else. Emily was across from him, and in his eyes he started to smile but didn't let that go any further.

SilverTiger 08-05-2011 06:54 AM

as promised ;)

After the Prophet this morning, Dorian had settled down the tiniest bit, even though he'd had to get a second cup of triple espresso. The official memo delivery hadn't really helped, but at least he was resolved to make the best of the situation. Namely, figuring out how to get around the ridiculousness that was Recard's animosity and the cult's, well, existence and infiltration of the Ministry. As long as Level Two could stay separate, and sane, at least they had a safe zone, so to speak. He'd taken a moment to decide not to destroy the memo, though. Instead, it now had a prime position half underneath the issue of the Prophet, lying in his wastebasket.

The department-wide meeting was more intriguing, and he made his way there with his cup of espresso, slipping in behind the two Security employees and sending Evander a nod. And then he made his way to an empty seat, without saying a word. He'd already essentially said his piece that morning to Ben and Laurie, well, and Miss Browne. Saying more would just make him need to control his temper again, so he'd wait for what Evander had to say. At least he could imagine it wouldn't be supporting the other department head.

TeafortheSoul 08-05-2011 10:34 AM

If you're late coming after this, please pretend you're already here XD

Right. The conference room was about as secure as it was possible to be. There was no way that anyone could hear a thing from outside.

Evander put his wand away carefully fixing it to his holster and disillusioning it by reflex. He straightened up and walked over to his usual seat, by Damien. But instead of sitting down he pushed it out of the way and leaned against the table, most of his weight on his fists as he looked around, surveying the MLErs. He made eye contact with each of them, and waited until the room was silent and all attention was on him before he spoke.

"Most of you know at least part of why I called this meeting. Yes we'll discuss this apparition license business, but that is not all we will focus on. Of course it is business as usual and despite.... difficulties, we must continue as we can to do our jobs." Van paused and stood up straight.

"I've noticed," Because if they thought Evander floated about in his own little world and ignored his employees they would be very mistaken, "that there seems to be a little... shall we call it dissent in the ranks." He looked around gravely but didn't pick anyone out.

"This will stop. I don't care what your personal differences are. I don't give a crap if you don't like someone in this department. You'll do your jobs and you'll work together and trust that I know what I am doing in hiring each and every one of you." He looked around again. "I trust all of you and right now, more than ever we need trust." More than ever.

"You'll respect each other, and respect those who have the experience to pave the way here in our department, and all of you -all of you- have something to bring to the table."

Van went silent for a moment to allow this to be digested and then he spoke again.

"And more than ever, we need to be seen as united, and professional. This means I don't want to hear about any of you taking this apparition thing out on any Transportation employees, or on each other." He paused and added quietly, "I will hold myself to the same standards." Which... well, Van had a temper, no denying it so him vowing to do the same was a big deal.

"I said I trusted you all, so I am going to tell you, all of you, what my involvement with the Cult of Walpurgis has been, and I'm going to trust that what I say won't leave these walls."

Emily waited patiently, her eyes fixed to the front of the room. She couldn't help but feel a chill run down her spine as Van eyed each and every one of them. It was easy to see why he was Head of Department.

Listening intently, Emily processed what Van was saying... she understood, she knew what he meant by trusting one another. And while she did-in the back of her mind at least- acknowledge that Van was a good man, and knew what he was doing... she still couldn't shake a little bit of that mistrust. But she would deal with it, work around it, bite her tongue if she had to. Its not that she didn't like Isobel, she was just concerned... and she was well within her right to be concerned. Still she nodded in understanding... she wouldn't go against his word.

Emily was all for a united front, and business as usual. Showing the Cult they couldn't ruffle their feathers that easy was necessary. But they would need to do more than just business as usual, and Emily was all for longer hours and more work.

Involvement? What was Van talking about? ...

Emily's curiosity senses were burning, she leaned forward in her seat slightly.

Disneymaniac 08-05-2011 12:32 PM

Iggy smiled at Van. He was being nice. Even sticking up for Iggy. Which was lovely. Hopefully all the Aurors will leave him alone now. His mouth dropped open though, when Van said he was involved with the Cult. What????

Saiai 08-05-2011 12:40 PM

Skander nodded slightly as the bossman spoke. So this was more important than just having lost their licenses. Presumably then this was also a lot more important than whatever work they should have been doing. The fact though that this was apparently serious enough to caution all of them that to show dissension in the ranks would bring about more harm than usual was worrisome. Were the cracks already starting to show? Well obviously they were since Evander was mentioning it.

Still though Skander wasn't so sure that he would trust the people in the department. He didn't know them and he certainly wouldn't be freely sharing his own views on anything that was really important. After all one never knew who they were really talking too and where that persons loyalties were...

Wait. The bossman was involved with the Cult??

RachieRu 08-05-2011 12:46 PM

Dissent in the ranks? Well...Isobel could see where that was coming from. She had noticed a few differences within the last couple of weeks, and Evander had noticed it too. It was good that he was doing something abou t it, they wouldn't really be a strong department if they didn't respect, and get along with each other. She nodded at what Evander was saying. She respected everyone in the department anyway, they all played a crucial role in the running of the department, and were all good at their jobs.

But now Evander had said something else, that made her kind of shocked. Evander was involved within the cult? Seriously. Well that would shut some of the others up, who moaned at her for being with Armen. But she trusted Evander, and knew his involvement had to be for the good of the wizarding world, or so she really did hope.

Meh Reh 08-05-2011 03:44 PM

Of course there would be dissent, as Van put it. It was hard not to bear some resentment towards someone if they had a connection to a source you didn't like or didn't appreciate. That much was human nature. The other thing, that was almost a fact, was that Izzy would get her license much easier and much faster than the rest. So of course there would be that... offset feeling with others.

Van was involved in the Cult, eh? Obviously he would be telling them this for a reason, and his involvement would be different than Recard's. Of some sort, anyway. If he was a previous member, he wasn't now because he had a brain and knew it was wrong.

Whatever the matter, Blaise just wanted to know. But he sat patiently, watching Van closely.

MeredithRodneyMckay 08-05-2011 07:03 PM

Gabriel could do respect. He was a leader of a team himself, so he had to set an example. The boss' words, no doubt directed at everyone, had more meaning for some than others. The security head had a quick look around at Blaise, Emily and Isobel as Van spoke, wanting to see if what he said affected their body language. So far everyone seemed to be calm and focussed on the meeting.

The Cult business did make him sit up a bit more though. Gabe hadn't known that Van was in, or had been in, the Cult. But when he stopped to consider the amount of information they had on them, it became less surprising. At least he wasn't as shocked as some of the other people seemed to be....

Tazenhani 08-05-2011 07:11 PM

Respect. It was a hard thing to come by.

Sabel's eyes fell to the folded and rather wrinkled paper in front of him. While he had no beef with the employees of his department, he couldn't exactly say that was true for all other departments. Especially those people who he knew were in some way connected to Lord Borr. It was hard to find the respect needed to interact with those people. He would, however, make an effort to mind his tongue. As he always seemed to do.

His attention was drastically altered to Evanders admittance. Something inside twisted, and taking a glance around the room it was easy to see he wasn't the only one surprised. Some of the attendees however, held little shock to their expressions, especially Damien. Taking a slow breath, he returned his attention to Evander. No matter what, he knew he trusted these men. He would lay his life down for them if he was ever called to do so. And he had to a deep amount of gratitude and respect towards Evander, for sticking his neck out to be so honest.

Boy Wonder 08-05-2011 09:22 PM

Benjamin kept his face calm and cool, but on the inside was wondering what the heck Evander was talking about. The man wasn't aware of anyone being rude or disrespectful. Well, in his part of the department anyway. It was probably just the Aurors. But then, the meeting took a turn Benjamin didn't expect. Evander was going to tell them about his involvement with the cult.

FINALLY!!!!!!! Ben had his suspicions ever since the cult first started appearing. And now they were going to get some useful information.

Fira 08-05-2011 11:13 PM

Well...well...well

A certain, wide smirk glued on his face Ryan was doing what he did best, as he sat there at a random seat, observing and analysing. Of course there was info that had been gathered and he could see much more was going to be loose in the room. Well...when a place was crowded there was always so much loose data for the blond man. And it had always been fun to choose and catch the ones that interested him...a bit.

To be honest right now Ryan was more interested in getting his firewhisky in his lovely room however apparently there were some things to be cleared out. They were kind already clean but...there was always the cleaner. Right. There was. Plus it was not completely boring in there at all. People were fun!!!

Hahahahahaha...

He was not allowed to apparate, right?

Ooooooh joy!

*smirk*

Cassirin 08-05-2011 11:22 PM

In a careful and pointed gesture, Cade set down her quill and parchment and refocused her attention on Mr. Bole. Van. Him. She had no intention of telling tales out of turn, and if what was about to be expressed was a secret, then she would demonstrate her trustworthiness.

In spite of her relative serenity of expression, however, Caedwyn Howard was feeling far from serene. She was a woman who tried to believe there was good in everyone and who trusted that better nature would win out 9 times out of 10. Silver-lining-eternal-optimist-glass-3/4-full type of person. And Evander Bole was currently giving her a minor panic attack.

He thought he could trust everyone in the room, but he didn't know. Revealing sources and outing one's alliances was a sure way to get someone killed. She knew that first hand. Cade stared hard at the boss's fists on the table and focused on breathing. Calm. Puppies and rainbows.

Some of their thoughts were painted on their faces, and Van almost smiled but managed to keep a serious air.

It was funny though.

No. No he was not a cultist, thank you.

"Some of you may be aware that my background is in undercover work." He nodded at Damien and Dacs and then after a pause, Isobel. Yeah.

"During one of my missions, where the job was to infilitrate and dismantle from the inside an illegal betting ring. Quidditch and the like. The woman in charge of the whole operation had.... relations shall we say? With D'Isigny. So I met him a few times, and his right hand man, Gevrik. Both are particularly talented Legilimens, but neither of them discovered that I was more than I appeared. They did nothing that could possibly link them to the betting ring, or any obvious criminal activity, aside from certain associates being known criminals and wanted dark wizards, so there was nothing I could do other than watch my back. Even then I knew there was more to the two of them than just being a little on the unsettling side."

And no, he wasn't going to give away the most top secret details of that mission, or of any of them in particular.

"That was the first time I met them. The second time was a little more... hairy." Van's expression grew far away as he recounted the story.

"It wasn't long after, and a new mission. By this point I had established myself as a trustworthy sort in the criminal world." His eyes gained focus again and he looked around the room as he added quietly, "Most of you will have no idea what it is to keep a cover for so long, to live amongst the filth of our society and to be considered one of them. To, at times, feel like you were one of them and look at your time as an on-the-books Hit Wizard as a distant memory, or maybe a dream. It was difficult to keep motivated, and to remember myself, especially when I had to do my best not to be caught by some rookie Auror with no knowledge of me or my work. And there were plenty sniffing around."

For good reason.

"The group I was working with, my mission, they were a dark wizarding family to be sure, but where most such families happen to be old pureblooded families that keep to themselves," And DMLE being ignorant of their activities suited both parties completely, "These people were dedicated to a criminal life. It wasn't about the magic they used, but how they used it. It mattered more that they were a crime family than that some of them happened to use illegal magic."

Evander, who had been talking a while now, as a rule NEVER discussed any of his past work. Now he was doing so, without giving away any of the classified details, but this was more than he'd said in one go to anyone, even Damien, though the Auror may have pieced parts of these stories together over time.

"As part of my cover, I found it would be a good idea to make a bit of money on the side. The usual sort of thing, extortion was the easiest since If I feel like it I can intimidate rather well." Oh so modest. "And of course the Ministry wouldn't furnish much extra in the way of money so I had to pay for my work somehow. So extortion every now and then and when we did a few particularly big jobs... well, some of the money we made never went back into the Ministry coffers. " To catch a criminal, become one. Not that he was trying to justify it.

"It was lucky that I did as of course they checked me out. I didn't come up clean and that's what they liked about me. They upper echelons of this family also happened to be heavily involved in the Cult and so, even though it wasn't much to do with my mission, by association, it wasn't long before I began to understand there was more to that organisation than the love of the environment and benefit of wizardkind that they preach these days. I got to see the dirty side."

He went silent again. There was a lot to absorb in this story.

And no, he wasn't and never had been a cultist.

"I like to think at least some of you have done the research and know where the Cult came from?"

Yes? Anyone?

Boy Wonder 08-06-2011 04:22 AM

Benjamin listened intently. Learning about Evander's past, which, no offense, the Detective really didn't care about. He just wanted know about the cult. And when Evander finished his story, Ben was dissappointed and fascinated at the same time... But now Evander was just going to ask them questions instead of just telling them.

Why must he play these games with us when there's a MUGGLE HATING CULT THAT NEEDS STOPPING!?!!?!

However, research, is something Benjamin did a LOT of. Ben spoke up. "'The Cult of the Wulpurgis.' Well, 'Wulpurgis Night' is a holiday that is celebrated with dancing and bonfires. Started by a German Saint, Walburga. It's meant for people, muggles, to meet Witches and Wizards." Ben paused before he added, "Oh! On a friendly bases."

As for the cult... "The Cult's 'goal' is to merge the wizard world and muggles. Though, it's clear they want to do more than that."

Tazenhani 08-06-2011 04:25 AM

Undercover...it explained some things, and left many more to question. But one thing was for sure: Evander was a good man. He had to be to come out of a mission so deep and embedded in secrecy. And especially to tell it to everyone in the room.

Which, begged the question of exactly what Evander was doing. While Sabel understood that the man trusted his employees, was he taking that trust for granted? Or was this some sort of draw to pull at the Cult and see where the breaks and kinks lay in the Ministry. Either way, this was how things were going to be, and he paid particular attention to his the man's words. And the topics they brought up.

His eyes flicked over to Benjamin with interest. He had not known about the muggle holiday and traditions. He did have an inkling about that part of the Cult's goal however. A goal he was still divided on.

"They were the Knights of Walpurgis." Sabel added quietly, picking at the edge of the newspaper. "The original title of the Deatheaters." Beyond that, Tate's DADA lesson was a little fuzzy. Thank you to muggle background and late wizarding history.

And no, he wasn't and never had been a cultist.

"I like to think at least some of you have done the research and know where the Cult came from?"

Yes? Anyone?

Emily was listening intently, she processed evrything that Van told them, that he trusted them with... and it was heavy stuff. Emily could only begin to imagine the things he'd seen, and done. It must have been hard.

But she did conclude, that he wasn't involved with the Cult exactly... wasn't part of it. So that was a bit of a relief.

The Cult of Walpurgis... where did it come from? Well... she had an educated guess.
"Well... originally there were the Knights of Walpurgis... it has also been suggested that Salazar Slytherin was involved in the establishment of the group after leaving Hogwarts due to conflicting ideologies conerning student admittance... muggleborns and the like."

"Later this group was... renamed," for want of a better word really... it was more of a morphing, "... and they became known as the Death Eaters." Which of course they all knew about.
"If I was to have it a guess... the Cult of Walpurgis, is just another variation of the original Knights of Walpurgis."

She seriously hoped she didn't sound like an idiot. They discussed the topic in her seventh year... but the Curriculum was under the influence of the Cultists, so really she could have been misinformed.

Cassirin 08-06-2011 04:35 AM

"The Knights of Walpurgis were purportedly established by Salazar Slytherin as the protectors of Wizardingking in a time when we were being persecuted by a Muggle population that didn't appreciate our differences," Cade said faintly and a bit didactically. She'd heard this lecture before from Uncle Gaellen. "The Death Eaters branched from that group, although their motives and goals were more sinister. The Cult is another branch, separate from the Death Eaters."

Her eyes flitted from Van's fists to his face, but the knot didn't unclench in her stomach. Was his undercover work established fact that he could so easily share it with a room full of people, each with their own motives and reactions? What was there to gain by sharing all that?

TeafortheSoul 08-06-2011 05:00 AM

Van nodded and clarified, "The Knights of Walpurgis were created to protect Wizardkind from Muggles. Not all of the Knights were into blood purity and all that, so when the DeathEaters split off and developed from that group, the Cult splintered off too. Their ideals are inherently different to that of DeathEaters, and I think it is important to note that in order to make their own way they had to be powerful enough not follow the status quo, to be left unchallenged by those who did not join them. The Cult as an organisation became more secretive. Its a hereditary group the D'Isigny's are one of the founding families. Not all of those who are part of the Cult of Walpurgis have ideals as 'noble' as the founding families, above all they want to abolish the statute of secrecy. They believe that Wizard kind ought to stop hiding. Its part of what they stand for but I'm sure you all know they're big on environmental issues." Yes and that was why there was a new department in the Ministry.

"You need to keep in mind, that while some of them come across as pro-muggle, they aren't. Anything they do that seems to benefit mugglekind will first be done because it benefits wizardkind. So yes, I'd be the first to admit that there are some good things about the cult but if it were so simple..."

He shook his head.

"There are individuals in the cult that ARE as bitter and dark as you could imagine. D'Isigny uses them as lackeys. I've had difficulty identifying most of them, those key players." But he had a few suspicions. "They go along with the cult because its the best way for them to achieve their personal goals. So there are some cultists who are against muggles and even muggleborn."

As for the name...

"The CULT part, it is sort of tongue in cheek so I've heard. People knocked them as a cult and they chose to embrace that title."

Anyway, back to the story.

"They hate me, D'Isigny and Gevrik, because I fooled them. They had no idea that I was MLE. They don't like being tricked, they're so very confident in their abilities. And so when they showed up around these parts, knowing some of what I'd done while undercover, they tried to hold that over me. When that stopped working, they...." He cleared his throat and looked at Isobel. "I'm dating a cultist too, one who is in it for the good things. The environmental ideals, the grand plans of helping Mugglekind."

Yeah. Lilyan Moretti.

"They threatened me... if I do anything to get in their way, that they would hurt her, and her son."

He did betray some emotion there and when he spoke again it was with difficulty.

"Its personal with myself and D'Isigny and Gevrik. The others, like Borr and Recard, well, they're sheep. Though my personal opinion of Recard is possibly fairly well documented." Ahem. "Everything comes down to D'Isigny." Everything. That was who was really in charge.

"I'm done with the threats. I'm done with looking the other way. I can't ask you all to stand with me, I don't have the right to expect it, but if you do, and think about it before you choose, we'll make a stand. Together."

Boy Wonder 08-06-2011 05:06 AM

That part came as a surprise. Benjamin had no IDEA that Lilyan was apart of the Cult. But, Ben felt bad. What he didn't understand was why Evander didn't just put her under protection, or something of the sort. He was perfectly capable of doing that if she was in danger. But, Ben was most decidedly against the cult. As much as the statue of secrecy should be abolished, under proper reasons, that was NOT what the cult was up to. But Benjamin had no idea what they specifically wanted to do.

"Evander," Ben simply said, "What are, (or do you think), the Cult's 'big plan' is? What do they plan on doing?" The Detective had his guesses, but Van probably knew more.

Everything became clearer... Van filled the gaps, it made sense. Emily sat there silent, processing the new information. Leaning back in her seat she thought about it... about how personal it was for some, and how... really it wasn't fair for her to judge some people... you couldn't choose who you fell in love with, and everyone had their own reasons for doing things. She of all people should know that.

Make a stand? Together?

She certainly wanted to, Emily would do anything for the Wizarding Kind, for MLE ... for her family. Because really these people in this room, was all she had.

"You can count me in," she said, a serious expression on her face. She would do whatever she could... anything she could.

Cassirin 08-06-2011 05:13 AM

Cade straightened up in her seat. "And if we don't, sir? If we find that the things we have to lose outweigh anything else? Are we... fired?"

Rock, meet Hard Place. Standing with the team versus being a pariah wasn't the big issue for her, although it was nice getting along with co-workers. But if the Cult was threatening people's children, then Caedwyn needed to decide whether putting her child at risk outweighed having a job that put food on the table.

Tazenhani 08-06-2011 05:19 AM

The first part of Evander's speech was a good recap on what the man had told him when he had been hired. It was god to hear it again, to be reminded of what the situation was. Too often in his day-to-day life he forgot about it, put it on the backburner of his mind and only delt with it in the fatigue of late hours of the night.

Now however, it was hard and sharp in their faces. They couldn't ignore it. Especially not with what Evander was saying. With what he was facing, and choosing to do. Sabel's heart went out to the man. He couldn't even imagine what it would be like if someone threatened his family, or Arya. Even starting to try and comprehend that situation made the hairs on the back of his neck rise and a cold chill to run through him with no hope of warmth.

At least, there was some hope in knowing that not all Cultists were as despicable as Borr. If Evander trusted this woman he spoke of, then Sabel would place his trust in the hope that there was some good intention behind all the blackness.

"I will stand with you, Evander." There was no question in his mind of his choice. He didn't need time to think. In some ways, he knew this was exactly why he had come to the ministry. He wouldn't begrudge those that chose to stand down, but there was no way he was going to sit back while someone's family was being threatened. "They made the worst mistake when they dragged our loved ones into this." Because he was fairly certain that Evander's family wasn't the only ones that were threatened.

Dacs after listening carefully and processing all the outpouring of information from Evander, she spoke,"You know what I stand for Evander and you know what I'm about. I've hidden and I don't intend to start now. I'm in. We all have something to lose which means we all have something to fight for and to stand for." she said as she cut a meaningful glance at Ben before continuing, "Besides, I really hate them all. I'm just saying."

Her voice was steady and icy as it slid across each word and her face stoic not betraying any sign of weakness as she meant business. Dacs' stomach turned at everything Evander had said. He was right, it was time to stop all this madness.

Erindipity 08-06-2011 05:25 AM

Damien had been quietly contemplating an uprising. Heh. Really and truly he had. Funny thing about is that now that he was married and talking about having a child it unnerved him a tad. But this was Evander. And Damien trusted him with his life. He had stood with Damien at the altar when he said "I do" ... he was the one person he knew he could count on besides Gem.

"I reckon I don't even need to speak up..." Damien said with a smirk and a small snortle. He was in. All the way. He had been from the moment it all started. "Can we start now?" he asked as an aside. Heh.

RachieRu 08-06-2011 07:38 AM

Evander's undercover work was still some what of a touchy Subject for Isobel, but she still did a small nod as he look at her. She didn't blame him anymore, she was over it. Nearly. She continued to listen as he spoke. Wait...he was dating someone in the cult too. So that didn't make them too different really. But he'd been threatened. Woah. Poor bloke. Izzy had met Lily, and she was a very nice woman. Izzy hoped that she wouldn't get hurt in this, especially when Lily had positive reasons for being in the cult. It kind of sucked.

They were going to take a stand? It didn't even really take Isobel a second to make her decision. Sure she was dating Armen, who was in the cult. But she had, and would always be loyal to MLE. It was her career....and she was easily able to keep her personal and work life separate. "I'll stand with you Evander..." She glanced around, especially at Emily, and Blaise. She figured that probably thought she wouldn't, because of Armen. "I might be dating Armen, but I will always side with MLE. It's been in my life much longer than Armen has..." She nodded at Evander. MLE...always.

SilverTiger 08-06-2011 08:32 AM

Mmm, late post. worked til half past midnight, but I want to catch up.

Evander's revelation that he'd had dealings with the cult barely got any reaction from Dorian, as with everything else, he couldn't say he'd been surprised. The best law enforcement types had reason to understand the other side, but that never made them actually on the criminals' side. And he really did keep thinking of the cult as criminals, in a way. Evander's explanation, however, had slowly gotten a bit of a raised eyebrow. At least now they knew who the real players were, and thankfully Borr wasn't really one of them. He would have questioned the cult's real power if that man was running things.

He'd mentally filed away the information that had been given regarding Evander dating a cultist, though. Just by way of feeling he needed to keep an eye out, as he really didn't want anyone else going through what he did. Even if it wasn't entirely the same. "I'm in," he finally said, simply. If Evander knew all their backgrounds, and he was fairly certain the man did, more explanation wouldn't be necessary.

Saiai 08-06-2011 01:02 PM

What Evander was telling them all was a lot to take in. Then again Skander was always good at taking in information quickly and storing it for later use if necessary. The fact that the bossman was dating a cultist when he seemed so against them was a surprise, not that Skander let that show on his face. It was also unimportant when it came to the big picture. The important thing was that she had been threatened, along with her child.

Make a stand? That didn't sound too bad in theory, but it could cause problems. Problems Skander wasn't sure he wanted to necessarily get involved with. In truth he liked some of the ideas of the Cult. He also wasn't from the UK to begin with. He had the choice to walk away from Britain and hightail it back to Australia, and he could make that choice. But at the same time he liked it here. He liked his job and his life and he didn't want to go back to his family and have to try to get another job.

"What will be involved in making a stand?" Skander finally asked. Some people were throwing their support in seemingly without thought, and while Skander would like to do that it just wasn't in his nature. He wanted to know what would be expected before he promised to do something that in the end may conflict with his own morals and ethics.

Disneymaniac 08-06-2011 02:44 PM

Iggy was somewhat confused. He got all the knight/cult stuff. He had read some history books in his time. It was one of his favourite subjects at school. He hadn't realised, though, that the cult was one of them. He knew they were bad, but they were worse than he had expected.

Listening to it all though, made him think that they did have good ideas. Who didn't want to live openly with the muggles? They obviously were going about things the wrong ways, otherwise everyone would be joining up. Anyway...he was slightly confused by Van's story of undercoverness. It probably wasn't a good idea to linger on it though, it was just a backstory to the case. Should he stand by Van though? He didn't have anything to lose. Well that anyone knew about.

He nodded though, "I'll stand. With you."

Meh Reh 08-06-2011 03:16 PM

Blaise listened closely to what Evander had to say. His story... was, well, long in areas. But that didn't matter at all because everyone needed to know. He made mental notes, especially who the head of the Cult was. So that was a surprise to him, but he didn't let much show across his face except other than that he was intent on listening.

He knew that when Van asked about MLE making a stand, Damien would be the first. He didn't laugh, but he definitely smiled and nodded his head in Damien's direction.

"Count me in as well, Van," Blaise said.

It was alot of information to take in, but Gabriel was sat, very still in his chair, doing just that.

The undercover stuff made a whole lot of sense. He couldn't see Van being a part of the Cult for his own reasons, work was more likely. Although the fact that Lily was a Cultist of sorts was something he didn't know either. Considering how willing they were to threaten the woman though, just to get to Van, showed they had no morals. And that sent a chill right down Gabe's spine.

Bowing his head he thought about the people who he might need to protect if anything in the plan went wrong, and the Cult overcame them all. His parents and siblings....Emilie. He still cared for her, but she probably wouldn't take kindly if he tried to 'save' her from anything. After weighing things up for what seemed like forever, Gabe finally spoke. "You can count on me." Because sometimes you just HAD to do something.

I think everyone who was gonna post HAS posted? Yes? *posts*

"They're already doing it." Evander answered. "They're in charge. The ministry is theirs. The next step is anyone's guess but knowing how their organisation works, it'll be efforts towards gradual change of the laws. They come across pretty patient wouldn't you say? Its already been a fair few years since the first whispers of activity started, and in that time, look at what they've accomplished, look at how subtle they are." Or D'Isigny at least.

"But we've got to find out for sure."

Rock, meet Hard Place. Standing with the team versus being a pariah wasn't the big issue for her, although it was nice getting along with co-workers. But if the Cult was threatening people's children, then Caedwyn needed to decide whether putting her child at risk outweighed having a job that put food on the table.

"Actually," Van answered wryly, "You're probably more at risk of getting fired if you help me."

He eyed Cade. "I'm not the kind of man to force loyalty or manipulate people into doing my will by holding threats over them. You're all free to make your own choice."

"We'll talk about the details of that, those of us who choose to do so. But the short answer is, whatever it takes." Van wasn't gonna go and start blabbing all his plans when not everyone had committed to the cause. And he wasn't gonna do it in the Ministry either, despite his confidence that level 2 was secure.

"So we'll move on now, to the regular order of business." He continued as if the last few minutes hadn't happened at all. Next to him a quill and roll of parchment hovered to take minutes.

"In regard to the revocation of Apparition licenses, I have arranged new brooms for those of you who need them and for those of you who want to know, they're the latest, yet-to-be released Vannacutt brooms, Made for speed over short and long distance, and manoeuvrability." He grinned and it was almost boyish, "I tested them, they're pretty awesome."

Mmmhmm.

"In addition to that, the International Confederation of Wizards has released some special emergency portkey licenses, which will be availably to those of you her prefer it, though you'll have to show evidence of proficiency with the portus spell to be signed off for one."

Yeah Evander was a man with connections. Suck on that, Recard!

"Of course, Armen Recard has been nice enough to supply us with extra floo powder. Do be sure to thank him."

Emily's eyes lit up at the sound of new-state-of-the-art-yet-to-be-released-Vannacutt brooms!!!! GAH! Ok so this was brilliant. This sort of made up for the fact she could no longer apparate. Only just. Would they have to give them back once their licenses were reinstated? That would be hard... very hard.

Emily seriously hoped she wasn't the only one who was getting excited over a broom... she didn't want to be lame. Her gaze moved around the room, surveying everyones response, she lingered a little on Blaise, but made a conscious effort not to stare. Sigh.

Thank Recard?... she wouldn't be using Floo... so she had no need to. And after the comments he made at lunch she wouldn't be saying anything to him until he appologised. Spineless git.

But anyway... less to be angry about now. 1. They were going to be doing something, getting proactive which is always good, and 2... well NEW BROOM!! hello!

Disneymaniac 08-10-2011 12:52 PM

Iggy raised his hand, "Can I have a portkey license please?" He didn't want to fly, because, well he was afraid of heights. And he definitely didn't want to floo, because he would get dirty that way. So the only way for him to travel was portkey.

He would show Van he was efficient at portkey magic, if he had to of course. He wasn't that excited by the fact of not being able to apparate. But portkey seemed the next best option.

RachieRu 08-10-2011 01:03 PM

Brooms? Okay. So those new brooms did seem pretty epic. But Isobel didn't like flying. She had never liked flying. She had really sucked at flying when she'd been at school, so it was pretty known that she would not be wanting one of these new brooms from Evander. She'd much rather floo home. Even though she wouldn't need too, unless she went home later than Armen. But like, nobody else needed to know about that. Anyway hopefully they'd all have their licenses back, and hopefully everything would be fine for a while. Until MLE rocked again, and showed everyone who was the best department in the ministry.

oh. Thank Armen for the extra floo powder. Oh. Wasn't he so kind to give them more floo poweder. More like trying to rub it in their faces. Oh Isobel would definetly thank him....in her own little way.

MeredithRodneyMckay 08-10-2011 06:05 PM

Yes. Gabriel was going to go with a broom. Due to being able to apparate, well usually, he hadn't used one for a while. But he wasn't really a fan of Portkey's - and they didn't sound like nearly enough fun. A brand new Vannacut broom, however? Heck yes.

He tried to keep the slightly happier expression away from his face, and remain neutral, but it was hard. Especially when he looked across at Emily and could sense her excitement at it. Of course the mention of Recard was finally enough to remove any trace of a smile. Thank him indeed. Gabe was certain that Van was being sarcastic. Didn't take a genius to work that out, but still....shame they couldn't thank him in their own special way. Floo's weren't his favourite either anyway. "A new broom sounds good to me, I think." And no need to thank Recard for it.

TeafortheSoul 08-15-2011 09:28 AM

I'm pretty much just assuming everyone mentioned by name IS here

"Mmmmf." Van made a vaguely agreeable sort of noise and nodded around. "We'll get you each sorted with your preference after the meeting."

Now on to the stuff that mattered, or at least mattered to Evander. The real Law Enforcement stuff.

"I'm sure you're all aware of the carnival." He paused, not really waiting for acknowledgement, more giving people a chance to mentally catch up since he was changing topics now.

"I've had some reports that this particular carnival tends to attract a few unsavoury types, which of course the carnival itself denies any connection to. So we'll need some patrols just to keep eyes on the ground and be sure the public is safe." He looked towards Gabriel.

"Gabe, if you'd run point on that? Perhaps get a few volunteers from other divisions. It is mostly a matter of simply being a presence. Perhaps Ignatius might wish to help you out? The man has a good eye." Being a Photographer. It was possible he might see what others could miss. And if they saw anything else of interest? Well that was just a bonus.

"I need those of you with IUMO to focus on the carnival too. It seems like there is an excessive amount of wizarding children wandering around lately, and the Trace has been going off with alarming frequency. We'll need to keep on that, and also in relation to Statute Breaches, we need to be sure that the Carnival remains hidden, so the disillusionment charms need to be checked and triple checked, for the ride structures, creatures, individual elements and the carnival as a whole. Do liaise with Environment and Creatures regarding this as necessary."

Van made himself comfortable in his chair, clearly more at ease now that it was business as usual.

"The Patents Office are to be cracking down on whatever knick knacks are on sale, just to be sure they're doing what they should be and not violating the limits of their patents or being sold without the appropriate magical patents, and naturally as required Counterfeit Magic and Muggle Artefacts will provide the necessary support." Ben and Dorian could figure that out amongst themselves, surely. "CMEC and MMAO should also liaise with International Cooperation if you come across any items for sale that appear to be illegally imported."

Fun and games.

"Of course you're all more than encouraged to go along and," Van waved his hand, "Enjoy the event and whatnot." Really. He didn't care what they did with their down time as long as it wasn't cult related or something that would compromise department security.

"Dacs, Damien and Laurie, your divisions have other work to do..." He nodded at Damien and then at the other Aurors before setting his attention on Damien again. "Damien, would you mind briefing them on the... Hogwarts issue? You can arrange a hand over later, and Laurie's team can oversee the trial. I have something else in mind for the Auror Office."

Hera 08-15-2011 11:38 AM

Well that was a no brainer. Emily was definitely going for the broom over a portkey or floo... they were just boring in comparison.

Snapping out of her stupor, Emily listened to Van's next instructions..

The carnival! ... she had heard about it, and was meaning to check it out, only she hoped there wouldn't be any stiltmen there... she hated stilts. It was bad enough that normal people were taller than her, she didn't need the freakishly tall rubbing it in. She was actually considering vollunteering to patrol DA, and keep an eye out on the Carni folk and the crowds. It sounded like it would be a good experience.

But alas, Van had other plans for them... no doubt it would be just as interesting- if not more so. Whatever it was, she was looking forward to getting involved.

Briefing? ... had they discovered something in the memories?

GlassXRose 08-16-2011 01:46 AM

Elinor had sat quietly, listening intently to Mister Bole's intriguing story. Of course, he was telling this story for a darn good reason, which she had almost forgotten, until he brought them back to the issue at hand. She made a note of what the others were being assigned to, and was unsurprised to hear no mention of herself. It was merely her job to assist the rest of them, as usual, she assumed. She gave a small, silent sigh and leaned forward, the first bit of movement she'd made from the start of the meeting, placing one arm on the table in front of her.

Carnival? No. She wouldn't be leaving for any carnival unless it was her job to do so. She wouldn't be doing ANYTHING unless it was her job to do so. Of course, she was with Mister Bole, and would be happy to assist with this issue, but she really didn't care about revolting or fighting back or even the apparation licenses. She knew she probably SHOULD have, but she didn't. Why would SHE, of all the people int he department, need one?

Yeah, okay, she was bitter. But she tried not to be, and pushed those thoughts aside as Mister Bole handed over the floor.

Although he didn't have time to mention his choice, he obviously would take the broom. Why not? Blaise loved Quidditch, so much that he broke his collarbone for it. No matter, though. He was completely fine, so after the meeting he'd definitely make sure to let his preferences known.

A carnvial. OH YAY. Ahem. That was the little kid in him talking. Especially considering that they needed patrols to be done. He smiled slightly, looking over at Gabe.

An event. An actual event. It was Blaise's specialty. He'd still have to patrol the Ministry, he thought, but maybe not. Gabe would inform him later.

Oh yes, the carnival. He'd figured that was what the street performers were about. Ahem. No problem, Gabe liked carnivals, it wouldn't be a complete nuisance to have to patrol it. Unsavoury types were something his division could spot - and Iggy, too, he was sure.... "Absolutely," he finally replied, after listening to everything Van had to say. "If anyone wants to volunteer now, I'll make note. Otherwise I'll go and ask in the other office when we're finished here." He looked around at the assembled peoples. Anyone that wasn't an Auror - he was basically looking at you.

Gabriel's gaze immediately caught Blaise's, who was sat right near him. Yes, there was one person who knew exactly how to handle patrolling an event such as this. Mental note. He gave him a nod, just to let him know that he was the first name on the team sheet, as it were.

Oh... debriefing and whatnot. Sure thing. Nodding his head once Damien looked at him and gave him a clear Now? look. Snapping Van a lazy salute he figured he would call them round the office and take care of that later. Not to mention he had to debrief the Tatertot as well. GAH. Promtions were great for pay raises and whatnot, but dealing with more people was not okay.

"Sounds good." Evander agreed, knowing he didn't need to but speaking out of courtesy and acknowledgement.

"When you're ready." Evander waved his hand. They didn't all need to get the debriefing, not when there were other things to do in the meantime. Still, 'when you're ready' in Van-speak really meant 'you better get onto it soon, but I trust that you will so I don't need to be specific do I?'

Damien spoke Van pretty well. Most of them did by now.

"Right. We'll adjourn for now. Naturally I'll keep you all updated regarding the.... license thing." Evander narrowed his eyes, mentally using bad words to describe Armen Recard.

"And as for brooms and portkeys, I'll place a sign up sheet in the corridor and we'll get you all sorted by the end of the day."

He stood up again.

Coffee?

Yes?

Good plan.

Evander left. Coffee was needed. His quill and parchment that had been taking notes followed him and he snatched them out of the air as he left the conference room.

ooc: I won't really put up a sign up sheet. You can all just feel free to RP that you got a broom or emergency portkey items. I'll post more about that on the announcement board so that you have a bit of an idea what you might use for the portkeys as far as what Evander would provide.

In the meantime, go ahead and play your character at the carnival. The powers that be are expecting us, and there may in fact be some.... :shifty: ... trouble. You all know things are a bit crazy with the millions of new members, so we're gonna keep it low key for a bit. PM me if you need anything, and check the noticeboard if you want to know what is going on here. The 'minutes' for the meeting will be posted there shortly.

As for this 'coup' business, those of you already plotting feel free to continue. We'll work on that AFTER the carnival, as I have permission to make a thread as headquarters somewhere outside of the MoM. Again, I'll keep you all informed!

Luna_Midnight 08-23-2011 10:57 PM

Sky was happy at the thought of brooms, and a carnival, she had never been intrested when she was a kid... She nodded when Evander asked questions. She was in, she had things to loose but they could handle themselves and anyways your something to loose was also something to fight for. She waited for Evander to leave before getting up herself and walking out. When she stood up a letter fell from her, she picked it up and realized it was the letter from her brother, she still hadnt opened it...Her brother was in Transportation.

MLE NEW EMPLOYEE ORIENTATION MEETING.
_____________________________________

Van went on into the conference room and stood at the front, waiting for new employees to come in for their orientation. He'd had the room set up earlier, and while it still featured the usual table and chairs, there was also a selection of non-alcoholic drinks, and some sandwiches, muffins, raw vegetables and dip though he hoped nobody would crunch the carrots and celery too loudly while he was speaking, and other assorted snacks.

See, he could be a good host.

He flicked his wand to open the doors wide and then stood there with his arms folded across his chest.

He was being welcoming, promise.

ooc: new and returning employees are welcome! As are any curious MLErs, and division heads, chiefs, and deputies. I'll give it a bit before we start officially, so people have a chance to post and mingle.

lazykitty 10-02-2011 12:45 AM

Roxanne walked into the room and immediately said a quick "Hello, Mr. Bole," to her new boss. Then she spotted the refreshments sitting out. She went over and picked out a lovely looking blueberry muffin, got some coffee, then found herself a seat towards the middle of the table and waited for the orientation to begin.

SlytherclawPoet 10-02-2011 01:06 AM

Today had officially been the day that she was waiting for ever since receiving the owl about being hired to the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, Raven headed into the conference room and noticed not only her boss standing there but there had been a woman who must have been new. Well that worked out perfectly well since she wouldn't feel like she was in her own boat so to speak. "Hello Mr. Bole, how are you?" She was going to be nice clearly since she wasn't looking to get herself in trouble, after speaking though; she headed over to the refreshments and grabbed one of the sandwiches before taking a seat. Maybe she should have introduced herself to someone else but other things had made her quite distracted.

Elinor was curious about all the new employees, and had the time to spare. She had feared she was late, so, after quickly putting away her side work in her lab, had forgotten to remove the 3/4 length white coat, underneath which was her usual semi-formal work attire. Oh, well. At least it wasn't covered in stains, and now, just before she entered the room, she loosened it slightly so it didn't look so out-of-place. She didn't mind, and since she was the Laboratory supervisor, she guessed no one else would, either.

She was relieved at her misjudgement about the time -- there were only two others in the room, plus Mister Bole himself, who did not go unnoticed. "Good day, sir," she nodded, taking a seat at the far end of the table, so that the new employees would have all the space they needed.

Slytherin's Talon 10-02-2011 07:46 PM

Hawk Ebon followed a few others into the conference room. As always when entering a room, he stood to the side of teh dorr and quickly scanned it, looking at all the details. He saw the food and his new boss, Mr. Bole, as well as three other workers. "Hello Mr. Bole, good day." Then he approached the table and took a glass of some orange drink.

TSnitch 10-02-2011 08:01 PM

Dacs heard about the orientation meeting and decided to join the fun. She entered and nodded at Van. She went over to where he was standing instead leaned against the wall behind him. With her arms crossed over her chest, she looked at the new employees.

AlwaysDance 10-02-2011 08:05 PM

Aubrie walked into the conference room for new employee orientation. Looking around she saw food. Yum, she took some coffee and a banana nut muffin. She then sat down at an empty table waiting for the meeting to begin.

BanaBatGirl 10-02-2011 08:14 PM

Wes strolled into the conference room, pretty pumped for the orientation meeting, not that he really needed an orientation to the place. Heh. He gave a nod to Dacs and Van and then helped himself to a plateful of food from the spread.

No veggies, of course.

"Sup Van," he greeted his longtime friend and new boss, settling into a chair near the front with a wide smirk. "Nice food." Wes bit into a muffin. Mmm. GOOD food too.

Granger1814 10-02-2011 10:07 PM

Esme stepped through the doors of the conference room where the new orientation was taking place. She had just finished a rather nice conversation with Isobel and was looking forward to meeting other employees within the department.

Taking a few steps further into the room, she noticed the table of snacks and drinks. Removing a bottle of water from the grouping, she nodded and gave a brief smile towards the department head. "Hello, sir" She greeted as she took a seat.

Hera 10-03-2011 02:37 AM

Emily figured she should join the orientation meeting and familiarise herself with the new faces... she wouldn't want to accidently hex an MLE employee for snooping around their offices. Nope. Knowing faces would be a good thing.

Upon entering the conference room, Emily joined Dacs, leaning against the wall, a metre or so between them. Personal space. Uh huh. She gave those familiar to her a nod of the head by way of greeting.

TeafortheSoul 10-03-2011 03:55 AM

Van eyed his watch and grumbled a few greetings at newcomers and existing staff alike. A few more minutes.

... and a muffin.

He picked one up and inhaled it, pretty much. Men don't nibble. And really, the only way to eat a muffin was to just get in there and eat it, or nibble at it like a mouse.

He eyed his watch again.

Meh Reh 10-03-2011 04:03 AM

Oh hell, why not.

Blaise led himself into the Conference Room where he had heard about the new employee thingy that was going on. He was bored with patrolling for now, so he made his way back to level two to make use of his time.

He picked up a muffin and nodded at Van. He didn't seem to be in that great of a mood. Merlin only knows what all was going through his mind right now. "Van," he greeted. "Try not to scare them off so soon." Of course he was joking around with his boss, but to emphasize it he smirked slightly, seeing as how he was pretty new to the department. Hopefully he wouldn't pull a Damien on him, but he figured he wouldn't.

Glancing around, he spotted Emily and took a lean on the wall near her, not saying anything and beginning to eat his muffin. Mmm...

Sapphira slipped in the conference room and greeted the DepHead as she passed. She took the most back seat to allow the newbies to sit in front and enjoy the front part of the room.

She looked around, and recognized some of the people whose wand had she weighed before.

Orientation day! Adler had waited this day. He was very excited, to start his first job in MLE. It will be fun met some gorgeous people in MLE.

He walked to the conference room and saw some people there.

Hmm. The orientation was today, so Isobel figured she may as well drop in, and say hello to the new employees. They were clearly the best department in the ministry, and so she was going to be nice, and say hello to them. That was what a pleasent Auror did right. She'd also heard that there was going to be some food at this orientation, and that was always a good thing. So with a smile on her face, she wandered into the conference room. She'd only really met two of the new employee's so far, and they were pretty nice. She nodded at everyone, grabbing a few pieces of raw vegetables from the food, and wandering over to where a few of the other workers that had been here for a while. She mused though, as she watched Wes for a few moments. "You should eat more vegatables Wesley." she grinned at him. Vegetables made you nice and strong, and that was what you needed to be a good strong MLEer. After that sentence, she leant back against the wall.

Mmm...

Emily watched as Blaise made his entrance... and of course she wasn't surprised that he decided to crack a joke. She smiled to herself, looking down at her boots for a moment before returning her gaze to the front of the room, her arms folded across her chest.

Mmm muffin.. why hadn't she thought to grab one?

Or better yet, some of those carrot sticks, and sugarsnap peas.

Emily gave Izzy a smile and a nod of the head. Heh, of course Izzy went for the veg, good woman that one. Extending her hand, Emily cheekily plucked out a couple from Izzy's hand and began munching on them, giving the woman her best creeperdoodle puppydog eyes.

Wes' nose just crinkled at the sight of all the vegetables on Izzy's plate. Of course she would go for those. Carrot sticks and celery... the food of womenfolk. Hmmph.

"I don't like 'em," he grunted, munching into a muffin and eating half of it in one gulp. "Not raw, anyways."

Or cooked. Or in any other form, really.

Isobel looked up when she felt someone grabbing something from her hand. Oh. It was only Emily. She smiled at her young friend. At least someone was eating their vegetables. "Feel free." Isobel mused with a grin. She didn't mind sharing really. Izzy was a nice, caring woman, so of course she would like to share her vegetables with her collegues. She wanted to make sure that Emily was healthy, because it would be very bad for Emily to be a unhealthy auror. She couldn't go chasing people if she was unhealthy.

Oh. Well that was just perfect wasn't it? Isobel eyed him, before grinning. "Trust you..." She mused as she popped a carrot stick into her mouth. Mmm. Yummy. She would have to try and get Wesley to be more healthy. "I'll cook some for you." She added with a grin. And then he wouldn't be able to get away from eating them. She continued to grin at him, as she ate the remainder of the vegetables. Ahh. Now her hunger has been satisified. That was much better. Now she could return to work after this orientation, and not being thinking about when her next meal would be.

Chelsea looked up at all the new staffmembers - she was so nervous, scared, and uncomfortable right then. She didn't want to get hurt - she wanted to be good at her job. Looking around Chel couldn't help but smile at everyone.

"Hello everyone" she smiled, waving slightly. "I'm Chelsea Payne - the new Pensieve Extractor" she smiled softly. Running a hadn through her hair as she introduced herself. This was an interesting first day on the job.

Roxanne turned in her seat as a fellow newbie entered and introduced herself to the room. "Hello, my name's Roxanne, but you can call me Roxi," she said, with a small smile. "That goes for all of you," she said to the rest of the room. To be honest, she suspected that only three of the people in the room (besides herself) were actually new. Which was odd considering she had met at least two other newbies in the office.

Just 'cause I can xD And as a head, Dorian should probably be there anyway.

As he'd seen the notice about a new employee orientation that Evander was holding, Dorian had mentally made a note to attend. At least that way he might not have to just wait for his employees to wander over to find their desks, as he'd seen he had a couple. Maybe then he could get more done in his division, considering he hadn't heard much from the few people he'd already met under him. At least, Luke hadn't been very talkative, not that he was either. Part of that had been him being on the offensive, though, although it hadn't been helped by his continued overnights here at the office. The couches in the waiting area were actually rather comfortable, although he usually managed to go home and clean up every day before anyone came in.

Having his espresso machine definitely helped, as well, and he had his now-almost ubiquitous cup of espresso in hand as he slipped into the conference room after a few others. Most of whom he assumed were the new employees to whic h the meeting was directed, although he nodded at Evander as he leaned against the wall at the back of the room. And then turned his silent acknowledgment to Dacs, Emily, Blaine and the others who he recognized from around the office and the ridiculous Apparition lesson. There was no need to speak, when he figured Evander would rather just get the meeting over with and everyone get back to work. The cult wasn't going to sit back and wait while they discussed protocols and the like.

CharGryffindor 10-04-2011 07:35 AM

Nathan wandered into the right room this time, and nodded his head at who he assumed to be his co-workers. Maybe he'd find out whom he was working with and what his job entailed - because really, he hadn't understood the briefing whatsoever. :hmm:

Bad mood Dean wants to know them all

Dean looks around the conference room where he sees some awesome staffmembers he recognises. Dacs... Emily... Wes... Isobel... And of course, Mr. Bole. He greets them with a brief nod since there's no need to introduce himself for the second time. Then, he sees a lot of unfamiliar people and decided to introduce himself to everyone of the department.

Hand half raised, he waves it slightly before he opens his mouth. "Good day, everyone," he smiles brightly, trying to conceal his frowning face due to overwhelming anger. "I'm Dean Benson, a new patrol officer of MLES. Pleasure meeting you," he lowers down his hand before he ends his short introduction. That should be enough. You can't trust anyone completely anyway. There might be even a Cultist spy here. Who knows...

"Hello, Mr. Benson," Roxanne said to the newcomer. She noticed that he didn't exactly seem as new as she was. "Oh, and the name's Roxi." Now that she was really looking at the man, she could tell his smile was a little too bright to be real. Hmm… wonder that's about.

Chelsea nodded to Nathan as he walked into the room - well at least she was doing something to acknowledge his appearance. Then Dean - he just seemed like he waved and acted like he wanted to introduce himself to everyone. Obviously not new. "Pleasure to meet you Dean Benson - I'm Chelsea Payne - and not spelled P-A-I-N" then a quick smile. "I'm the new Pensieve Review Specialist" she smiled. Yes she had the ability if she wanted to - to review your memories...when needed of course.

She wanted to do this in order to help the MLE out as much as possible. She'd heard the rumors of the Aparation License suspension and thought it was preposterous. Really preposterous. SHE was going to get that darn suspension revoked.

"Oooh Muffins" she realized and quickly snagged a blueberry muffin from the tray along with a nice cup of hot tea. C'mon Tea and Muffins were a perfectly appropriate breakfast at a meeting - except the crumbles.

Dear God, save me. Jaxton thought as he ran his hand through his hair uncertainly. He really didn't want to have to go to a meeting, in a small room, that would be crowded with people. To the man, it seemed like the worst version of hell. Yes, he would have preferred to have sat in a dark room with only his thoughts - although they weren't getting him anywhere either... so maybe this was a good thing. Yes. Positive attitude. Right.

Walking slowly, cautiously, into the conference room Jaxton shot a very very small smile in Van's direction before he moved into the far corner of the room. He didn't recognise anyone in the room - Damien wasn't there yet - so that meant that they would all probably assume he was a shy, newbie - not that he'd been a part of the Department for almost two years.

Oh well, today he was quite happy to be a wallflower but at least this way, they would know who he was. Sort of. This wasn't really who he was... but he was him right now.

Alex hurried along to the conference room, as told. She opened the door.Oh great, she thought sarcastically as she saw a bunch of people she didn`t know,Just what I want. She should make a dramatic entrance!Perfect to make friends....but perfect to make enemies, too. She groaned in grief and went to sit in the corner where it was darker and had less people. She stifled a tear as she ate her blueberry muffin. When will anyone like her at all?!

Chelsea looked up at Adler and smiled - he looked nice. "Pleasure to meet you Adler, I am Chelsea" she smiled over to him. Nodding her head in inclination over to him as she walked in.

The quiet guy who walked into the back of the room looked - well, out of place. Who was Mr. Wallflower and why was he in this meeting? It wasn't like depression and brooding looks were an instant mark for being in the MLE and if it was. Why on earth was she here? She didn't fit the bill clearly if that were the case.

Pfft. Who ever Mr. Tall Dark and Brooding was - wasn't going to be her friend he just didn't seem upbeat and happy at all....of course she wasn't talking about Adler here - she really didn't know him well enough to assume anything. Still - she was going to be nice to Tall Dark and Brooding until she judged weather he was nice enough to talk to. Maybe she was wrong. She didn't think so yet.

And another muffin person? New girl in the corner liked Blueberry Muffins. Chelsea immediatly liked her. Blueberry muffins were the best. Only topped by "Christmas bread" otherwise known as Lemon Poppyseed Muffins.

To die for. Absolutely to die for.

"Hello" she quietly waved over to Alex.

Everyone! :P

Having finished most of his work, Nathan decided to head to the meeting the Bole was holding. He thought it was a good idea to get to know all the new people that he was going to work with. He was also rather starving and he hopped there'd be some sort of snack at the meeting.

He walked in greeting Mr. Bole he then sat down and thought an introduction was a clever thing to do. "Hey everyone, im Nathan Dixon the Deputy Chief Inspector for the Statute Breach Investigation Squad within the IUMO" He just hoped that the newbies knew what IUMO stood for, but he was sure they did it was almost like common sense.

Ohh, yes, the orientation meeting. Was probably a good idea for Gabriel to attend that, considering a lot of the new folk were going to be in his division. And he'd heard Van mention something about putting food out.

Undoing the bottom button on his waistcoat, Gabriel strolled into the room, pleased the meeting had not started without him. Giving a swift nod to Van, he passed the food and grabbed a muffin on his way around to a seat next to Blaise. Smiling at the man, he extended that to any one else in the vicinity, before plonking the muffin on the desk in front of him. Chocolate. Nice one.

Chelsea looked over to Dixon and smiled he looked like a well enough guy. Then again everyone HERE had to have a brain in their heads for Bole to hire them. Right?

"Pleasure to meet you Dixon, I am Chelsea Payne Pensive Review Specialiest" she gave a quick nod and smiled over to him.

When she heard someone spit she couldn't help but chuckle - Alex was hillarious. "Hello then Alex - I am Chelsea Payne the new Pensive Review Specialist" she smiled. "Don't worry I'd be put off by speaking muffins as well...my mum charmed a cupcake to sing Happy Birthday to me as a kid - I threw it across the room...was hillarious." She smiled remembering the smearing icing down her sister Carmen's face. Priceless.

Especially since Carmen was her father-stealing jerk of a brat Step Sister.

Nathan smiled at one of the newcomers. "Nice to meet you Miss. Carter" He said exdending out his hand so he could shake hers. He was always polite when it came to meeting new people and setting out a first impression. He also liked to make sure that he's two daughters at home were just as polite and setting an example was a good way of teaching them. He missed he's two girlies that were now attending Hogwarts, he was just glad he could see his wife everyday.

Hearing his surname being said again he turned around and noticed another new face. "Pleasure to meet you too Miss. Payne" He extended out his hand again so he could shake the new comer. All these new people looked so young and it made Nathan think of his young days. He definitely wasn't as good at his job then, but as he grew older he became better and he started getting promotions. He hoped that all the new comers didn't lack the skills they needed.

He looked up the table trying to spot Mr. Chambers which was the Chief inspector of the IUMO but there was no sign of him whatsover. Instead Nathan noticed the muffins and only now remembered how hungry he was he picked up a chocolate chip one and ate the whole thing in three bites. It was delicious almost better then the ones his wife made at home.

He missed he's two girlies that were now attending Hogwarts, he was just glad he could see his wife everyday.

Roxi shook the man's hand and replied "Nice to meet you too." and placed her hand back on the table in front her. Truth was, she was getting a little impatient. She knew it was only right to wait for the other newbies, but seemed like it had been a while since everyone started coming in.

Dean chuckles a bit as the lady makes fun of her own name. "Nice meeting you," he responds.

He turns around to where the voice mentioning his name came from. "I prefer to be called Dean, Ms. Roxi," he smiles at the newcomer, the same as he is.

"Nice to know you all. I'm Adler Charlotte, Ministry Security." he smile calm.

...And there's finally a new male employee here! Dean looks at him with his typical smile. "Pleasure meeting you, Mr. Charlotte."

A deputy chief of IUMO? From his casual greetings with the other staffmembers, Dean decides to greet this one a bit formally. "Dean Benson, sir. I'm with the MLES. Pleasure meeting you."

The man didn't tell who he was. Weird... "What should I call you, sir?" he asks the other man politely.
