Having spent around ten minutes in the main office, talking to both Dacs and Gabe and having a quick look at the information and memo's that had arrived on his desk since Friday. He'd since decided that it wasn't anything that couldn't wait and had moved to Wesley's office. After knocking and not getting a response, he'd moved through the department looking for the boss - finding him as his voice has resonated through a slightly-open door to the conference room.

"Hi, Wesley?" He called out, knocking on the door lightly so that he knew he was waiting for a word once he and Dacs had finished their conversation. He wasn't pushing the other Division Head out - they all needed to have a conversation with Wesley, and it wasn't like they needed to act like two year olds to get said time. They were all grown ups - and highly reasonable and responsible ones at that.

He'd probably have to talk to like, three different people in three different departments just to get permission to shut the place down.

But it was a good idea, and a request he couldn't turn down just like that. "I'll ask around about shutting it down, just for you, Dacs," Wes raised an eyebrow at her, "because I know you wouldn't ask for such a Ministry-wide action unless you thought this thing was serious. Right?"

Merlin, he'd have to go to Alexander with this one! SHEESH!

"I'm all right with the quarantining though," he nodded his approval. "Just wait until I hear about the cafeteria before you start doing that. We don't want to scare any of the... infected ones off..." if she knew what he meant.

"I understand sir, I do. And no I wouldn't ask you about it if I didn't deem it important. I know there are regulations and processes but most of the occurences started in the cafeteria. I have reason to believe it's something in the cafeteria, more specifically, the food. But only with your permission will I continue on such course of action." she replied, with an almost military tone.

She continued and said, "If you need me to justify to the person in charge reason for a full shut down of the cafeteria, I'll be available."

Dacs wanted to close off as many avenues of possibilities to get to the bottom things as quickly as possible. She would be going on a 'zombie hunt' but she also needed to track possible sources of the infection.

And back to Dacs. "It's definitely important. I'm with you 100%, so..." Wes glanced down at the purple paper he'd brought into the conference room with him. "I'm going to ask you to bring up the cafeteria...connection at a meeting this afternoon. The Minister himself is going to be there, as well as all the other department heads, so it will be the perfect time to ask to shut it down."

He held out the memo to her and waited for her to take it. "It says that we can bring employees with us, so... you're one I want to bring." Like Dacs, Wes wanted to get to the root of the problem too. All his hit wizard instincts were pointing to the cafeteria too.

She gave him a slow, short nod as he spoke. Then he actually took her up on her offer. Not wanting to show any sign of surprise, Dacs nodded once and took the paper he handed to her. Reading through it quickly, she said,"I'll report on it sir." as she handed it back to him."We don't have the reports on file yet , so they are unofficial, but it should be enough to make a point."

Dacs was going to speak up in front of department heads and the Minister of Magic himself. Whatever it took to get to the bottom of this before one of them drooled on her boots.

"Great." Wes took the paper back, thinking that he'd probably circulate it around if he had the time. "Just meet me there at one and we'll hopefully be moving on with this investigation as soon as it's over."

He glanced down at his files again. "Anything else to report?" Word on Amarantha? Or was Jax doing that? Wes wasn't even sure how his people were split up at the moment... he should probably check on that too....

"Let's hope. I didn't go on vacation for nothing." she remarked. Dacs hooked a thumb in one of the loops at the back of her jeans as she shifted her weight."Well, right now Gabe and I are wrangling Security and MLES people to sort out here, I have an evidence retriever, Esme at Talone's shop along with CMEC and Emily took two with her on site. Simon is watching Talone. Jax, would take it from there. I'm going between Talone's shop and here sir." She said.

Yeah, she was very grateful to Jax for the cup of coffee he brought for her. She would need it today and need more of the anti- sleep liquid throughout the day.

Stormdancer 11-08-2012 03:48 AM

Jaxton smirked slightly as his best friend mocked his own questioning tone. Ah well, at least on rubbish days like this - they were around to help each other through, even if it was by their bootstraps. He held up a cup of coffee, and then held it out for Wesley to take as he stood silently slightly behind Dacs. He wouldn't interupt their conversation, but simply wait to see when he could fit in.

Ah, Amarantha... There it was.

Jaxton nodded his head. "Emily, Sabel and Josh are on site. Legend and Simon are with her in the cells. I'm on my way down there now, I just wanted to check in and give you coffee. Alicia wouldn't let me leave without taking it with me for us all, she knew from what she calls the "tell-tale signs", that something big is going on." He rolled his eyes slightly, but there was nothing that would make him turn away her coffee on a day like this.

And once again, it was as though Dacs had read his mind, delivering just the report Wes was looking for. He nodded as she went through a brief outline of the divisions on her side of the office at least, and he didn't have any objections to who had gone where. They were where he would have assigned them all anyway.

"Excellent work, Dacs, as always. Thanks for the update. I might just pop into Talone's shop myself near the end of the day, see what you all have come up with that can be used in an interview with her."

He nose wrinkled a bit just at the thought of that redheaded fiend. "I'll let you get back to it then, if you'd like. I'm sure Jax has something to add about de Talone..."

And so he did, plus he brought his boss coffee. Wise man!

"Looks good so far," Wes nodded and took the cup. "The plans of who's doing what, I mean." Not that the coffee didn't look good as well. "Let me know if anything develops...anywhere...." Since their people were so spread out today. "And you're also welcome to come to the meeting if you'd like, Jax, though I'd probably be more comfortable with you sticking around with Amarantha."

He wasn't sure he wanted her being watched just by two rookies anyway. "Are you planning to question de Talone today?"

So, my day is about to get really good, not so much for them." With that she smirked and turned to leave the conference room.

His suit jacked was already off and his blue shirtsleeves were rolled up to the elbows as he flipped through papers and made notes on a yellow legal pad.

The MLE head checked his watch and frowned. Meh. About time for another coffee break.

The alley cat patronus dashed into the room, laser focused on it's target. Once it had spotted the recipient, it leapt onto the table the man was working at, walked over to the papers and sat down on top of them, tail curled around itself. Once settled, the ghostly patronus begin to speak in it's owner's voice. "There's been a situation at de Talone's workshop. Dorian fell through the floor. He's okay, but the floor collapse uncovered something quite impressive. Please come down as soon as possible."

It's message delivered, the smoky cat faded away just as quickly as it had come.

Jaxton stood with one of his hands in his back pocket, as he silently went over a few things in his head as he listened to Wesley and Dacs finish off their own conversation about Talone’s workshop. He listed to what they were saying and couldn’t help the smirk that slid over his own face as she told them she was away to round up the CMEC division. Have fun, and look out! He thought silently, winking at Dacs. “Be nice!” He called after her, sarcastically.

“No.” Jaxton said with a single shake of his head. “I’m not questioning her today... Tomorrow possibly but I would rather wait until Dacs and Emily have given me the report from her workshop and so that my questions will be more direct and specific to her.” He nodded once and looked over the large piles of paper on the conference room table. “Do you need me to do anything else today?” He asked, before a cat slinked into the room.

Yes, he did keep tabs on all his divisions, thankyouverymuch. Either way, he'd be seeing her later. So on to the next division head!

...or patronus, either or. Wes flashed Jax a look that said, 'Sorry for the holdup,' and then sat down to listen to the cat. Just look at it, walking all around his files like it owned the place. The cat reeked of woman.

And sure enough, it was a woman who was speaking. Roxanne, if he wasn't mistaken... Merlin, she sure sounded worried on Dorian's behalf...

"I wonder if there's anything going on between those two," Wes remarked aloud as he leaned back in his chair and glanced up at Jax. "Would be good for Dorian, really. He takes himself much too seriously."

He waited for Jax's report and answers to his questions, then nodded and flipped all his files shut once more, casting a security charm over them so that they would remain untouched while he was gone. "That sounds fine," he responded to Jax as he tidied up. "Just keep a tight eye on the YATI and this floor as a whole while I'm gone. I'll go see what they're up to in Hogsmeade."

Hopefully no trouble with the local townsfolk too... "Anyway, catch you later. We'll have more to discuss when I'm back." More evidence too, surely.

Wes led the way out of the conference room and, once Jax had cleared it, locked the door behind him with another swift tap of the wand. He nodded to Ace and then headed toward the lifts, subtly straightening his tie and tucking his wand away at the same time.

He had a strict timeframe here, Hogsmeade people. Let's make it quick.

BanaBatGirl 01-05-2013 07:48 AM

MEETING STARTS NOW. This post on.

MEETING

The MLE Department Head was not yet in the conference room, but the door was unlocked and propped open already. A notepad of paper was sitting at the head of the table. The top of the notepad said MEETING in big, bold capital letters, but nothing else. There was also an ordinary Muggle ink pen on top of the paper.

Wes always did hate quills. He couldn't write fast enough with one without smearing ink everywhere. So he had been in the room, and set it up a bit, and then... gone back out again.

There's no reason why you can't have a seat though.

SilverTiger 01-05-2013 08:28 AM

cloning yet not ;) (I'm assuming different timeline from the viewing area RP)

Mandatory meeting. Dorian knew better than to keep Wes waiting if he was in one of his moods, and after what had happened with Isobel and then the incident when Natasha had felt the need to verify her sister’s condition (aka the wand-chewing incident), he was fairly certain his friend and boss was in a permanent mood. Therefore, he wasted little time in reporting to the conference room as requested, take-out cup of espresso in hand as usual, and for once he actually took a seat. Nobody else was there yet, so he may as well be comfortable. Besides, his back finally was essentially back to normal after the fall in Hogsmeade months ago. He didn’t need to stand, and he hardly imagined the de Talone case was going to be discussed anyhow. This is infected employee intel only, he thought to himself, grey eyes taking in the notepad and pen not far from the spot he’d chosen at the table. Maybe it had been an intentional move, or just involuntary, but he assumed that was where Wes would be whenever he returned, and as a division leader, he figured he was better nearby. Not to mention, that meant he was more likely to even get the reports from his people as the recitations passed by. CMEC was fairly spread out lately, with the different assignments. Aron working with A&C on the cure, Elinor in her lab doing her own work… At least most of the evidence retrieval from the cafeteria seemed to be finished, so it was down to the simple fact they needed to collect it all and come to a conclusion. Before there was no wood left in the building.

lazykitty 01-05-2013 08:59 AM

^Ditto above ;)

Having seen the big letters that the notice was in, Roxanne hurried over to the conference room as fast as she could, her own cup of coffee in her hand. She probably shouldn't still be drinking the stuff, not with her recent head injury, but it was the only thing keeping her going right then. When she reached the room, the only other person there was Dorian. She took a seat across from him, sending a small smile his direction. She wasn't mad at the man anymore, which was probably a good thing, considering that judging by the notice posted, Wes was BEYOND ticked. And would probably fire her right then and there if she caused any trouble. Not that she was considering it, with her head still not quite a hundred percent.

She took a peek at the notebook, smiling a little more at the fact that it was a muggle notebook and pen. She always liked seeing wizards use muggle things. The single word on the page gave it an ominous feel though.

Holmesian Feline 01-05-2013 10:02 AM

When the notice appeared on the board it was obvious it was important, even with the few words written upon the parchment as it hung. And even without the threat of being in hot water, Simon wasn't about to wait on the matter and headed in the appropriate direction to be in attendance just as the note said.

Entering the conference room, the YATI noticed only two people there and no sight of the head honcho, deducing it was still early in the playing out of events. Or the gathering of personnel for the oh-so-important meeting. So with a polite nod to both Dorian and Roxanne, Simon made his way to a seat of his own.

Maybe...just maybe they would finally be finding out answers.

Hera 01-05-2013 03:44 PM

Emily never missed a thing, ever. Nope. As soon as the notice appeared she'd cleared her schedule to meet in the conference room, and by clearing her schedule, she meant ignoring everything and anything else that wasn't Wes or Jax... and even if it had been Jax she'd have given him stern looks and defiantly dropped whatever it was to be here.

As it were, she strode in, confident and fearless as always, and plopped herself on one of the seats, next to one of her YATI's. She gave Simon a pointed look and then awaited for the arrival of her Head Boss Man and any orders, instructions or discussions he was wanting to impose on them.

She only hoped nobody would pester her with boring questions or chit chat in the meantime.

TSnitch 01-05-2013 04:13 PM

Dacs saw the notice as she was making her way back to the offices and changed course immediately to the conference room. She had finished with the cafeteria and would be waiting for the lab results to come back. Mean while she had other things to she wanted to get at pertaining to the investigation. Something she was sure Wes had thought about already.

She entered and saw that Dorian. Simon, Emily and Roxanne were already there. Moving passed all of them Dacs went to stand leaning against the wall behind the chair she intended to sit in when the meeting started. She leaned her head back against the wall and closed her eyes and went through all the procedures she had gone through so far and the ones she wanted to take.

FireboltAvis88 01-05-2013 08:04 PM

Melissa was on her way back to the Food Court to collect more samples for Esme when she saw the notice on the bulletin board. They were supposed to have a meeting. So she quickly walked back to her office, grabbed the book and the sample of the plant she had collected from the Food Court and quickly made her way over to the Conference Room.

She noticed as she entered the room that there were others already seated there. She recognized Dacs, Dorian, Simon, Emily and Roxanne. She nodded a hello to all of them and then took a seat. She didn't see Mr. Ferguson in the room but figured that he'd show up soon enough. As she sat, she gathered her thoughts. She figured that this was a good place as any to tell everyone what she may or may nothave discovered.

MagicalWorld 01-05-2013 08:04 PM

You can interact with him if you wish :)

Pretending that he has interacted with your charries at least once :) Being in the same dept and all :)

Tyler entered the conference room as he had read the noticeboard, and he didnt want to be in Hot water with his boss. He had been about to start on a case that had come through but he decided that it could wait and that it would be best for him to be here instead. So he dropped off the case file into his desk drawer before making his way over to the conference room upon entering it he saw that Mr Boss-man wasnt here yet and only a piece of paper with a single word on it was there. He took a seat and smiled to everyone that was there "Hello to you all, hope you are all well" he greeted them all. If only he had more time to hang out with his fellow law enforcers no matter what their division was, he decided to make more of an effort to get to know them all and hang out with them. Oh and of course as well as working with them on cases that concerned them and their department. He then sat there waiting for their Mr Boss-man to come and explain why he had called a conference. That notice didnt sound too pleasant, but then again.. with the investigations still going on.. what was pleasant about it all.

Saul entered the conference room unaware of any of the infected ministry worker business, he knew it was happening. His complete dislike of anything zombie had him just doing small jobs. He looked around to recognized a few faces from around the office, but knew only one of them by name. Steven, Sydney, no Simon! He sat quietly down in a far corner seat and mentally berated himself for his Antisocial tendancies. Going to these meeting should help him though.

Timeline here takes place AFTER Elinor has already been in her lab for a little bit.

An apology would be warranted when this whole epidemic was said and done with. Elinor had snapped and shouted a couple of unladylike words when someone had opened the lab door to tell her there was a mandatory meeting. At the moment, though, she was not in the mood for apologizing to anyone. The lab supervisor had ripped off her coat and slammed the door to the lab, but not before grabbing her clipboard and shoving a stack of papers into a folder, should she be asked to answer any questions.

"Not that I've had time to get the answers," she snapped to herself on the way down to the conference room. How could one be expected to work when dragged away from the very thing they were going to be questioned on?? Did they or did they not need her to help figure this out?? The lady was getting more and more agitated by the second, and bit the inside of her cheeks to try to help collect herself. She wanted to yell at someone. Really bad.

So when the lab worker entered the room, she paced away from everyone else, too upset to sit down, and huffed to herself. She clasped her hands tightly around her collection of papers to avoid having a free hand. Elinor wasn't one to get upset, but the meeting was quite inconvenient on her search for answers. Her hair was, again, not at it's best. It was clear where she had frustratedly clawed a hand through it multiple times, short of pulling it out. She did not make eye contact with any of her co-workers as she paced, and was not going to tolerate a question from anyone but Mister Ferguson, who was lucky to be her boss, and lucky she did not feel like being fired this day.

The woman continued to bite the inside of her cheeks and attempted to do some deep-breathing before the meeting actually started. Not that I've had a real chance to actually have anything to say!

BanaBatGirl 01-06-2013 06:53 AM

I think my siggy says it all.

Wes stormed into the conference room after he thought he'd given the lot of them enough time to assemble. He slammed and locked the door to the room behind him and took his place at the head of the table, with his notepad and pen.

If anyone was late to the meeting, and judging by the number here so far, they'd have to knock and suffer his wrath and all the judgy LOOKS from their peers. So be it.

"Let's get started," the department head began without any preamble. "We're here to discuss the progress and status of our infected Ministry peers." They all knew who they were and where they were located, yes? And they were surely aware his wife was among them...?

"I want reports from anyone who was in the cafeteria, anyone who helped collect a....n infected person, anyone who did research on samples, anything at all dealing with this case." Wes held his pen to his notepad and looked up. "Go."

Hera 01-06-2013 10:50 AM

Emily was in awe... at Wes' charisma. The way he stormed through that door, was something to envy.

Unfortunately, she hadn't been involved in much, or any of the infection case... what with being tied up with the de Talone case and it hadn't progressed very far. Lips sealed, Emily peered around the room at the few people that managed to turn up on time. Well? Out with it. She wanted to hear this too. Perhaps she could even get INVOLVED with the case. Merlin she knew she needed something to keep her busy. Jax wouldn't object would he? Not that she cared all that much...

TSnitch 01-06-2013 02:59 PM

Dacs who was still standing by the wall spoke up and said,"All samples have been bagged and tagged before being sent to the lab for testing. I'm just waiting for the results to see which ones are the infected food items as I suspect there are a number of them in the lot and it wouldn't be all of them. Esme is staying on that while we can take on other areas." she reported with military precision like she always did when giving an oral report.

Deciding to sit she moved forward to the chair in front of her and sat down."I'm going to have her on them around the clock until we get the results." Dacs said, leaning back as she looked directly at Wes.

She meant business. Dacs was a dog after a bone with any case that was on her desk. This one she was more like a hunting cheetah. She wouldn't stop until it was between her teeth.

MagicalWorld 01-06-2013 03:37 PM

Really loving this Ministry work :P

Sorry I just wanted him to say something instead of just sitting there, so putting out an idea that I had last week on this case.. not sure if its a good one or not lol! but its out there :)

Tyler looked round the room as Mr Bossman asked to hear some information they may have gathered around here on what was causing this zombification. He listened as Antoni gave information as to where she was in testing and researching. Then Tyler decided that he should speak up with an idea that he had but he knew it was a long shot, but it was something.. right? "I had this thought but its not a good one" ok here goes time for him to shoot his thought process down "I was thinking that I know.. we check at security who comes into the Ministry. But that security doesnt check for things that people may be carrying so maybe..the infection was deliberately included in an item that was brought into the Ministry." he looked around to see people's reactions "So I was wondering if anything new had been brought into and added in the cafeteria just before the first zombie case was found. I have only been here a year.. but I am not sure if there was anything new that was brought into the cafeteria before that" he looked around at his colleagues "So has anything new entered the Ministry Cafeteria?" he put that question out there.. in case it could trigger an idea or something helping them closer to solving this case. He then sat back a bit letting people think about that, and letting Mr Bossman get some new information as to where they are in the research and testing part. Maybe someone had gifted the Ministry something that was infected, and they put it into the Ministry? He didnt know.. but he was just trying to help cause he wanted this case solved as much anyone else did.

FireboltAvis88 01-06-2013 09:13 PM

Is going all Resident Evil Umbrella Corp conspiracy here xD

Melissa sat quietly and listened as Dacs, Emily and Tyler added their input into the investigation of the zombie epidemic. She was waiting for Elinor to present her findings first, just in case she had already solved the case...which would therefore had eliminated Melissa's hypothesis. But Melissa decided that she needed to share what she had discovered....even if it may end up making her the laughing stock of the MLE and the Ministry.

Melissa raised her hand...wait should she have raised her hand? Did the others raise their hands before speaking? Melissa quickly put her hand down and coughed discreetly into her hand, hoping that the cough caught somebody's attention, before speaking up.

"Sir, I've been assisting Esme in the collection of the food and drink samples at the Food Court. It was there when I got to thinking. Almost everyone who went to the Food Court came into contact, ate or drank something there. Yet not all of us have been infected. I got to thinking that it may not be something they consumed but rather something they breathed in . Something airborne." Melissa paused hoping that she had not lost anyone yet.

Then she took a deep breath, slowly let it out and continued with her report.

"I found something in the Food Court, that I'm sure everyone noticed but didn't think much about it." Melissa held up the petridish containing the sample that she had collected of the plant found in the Dessert Bar. Exhibit A.

"This is a sample of a plant I found in the Food Court. I saw baskets of it hanging in the air everywhere there. I did some research on it. " Melissa held up the book entitled 'One Thousand Magical Herbs and Fungi'...Exhibit B..."and identified it as a Scottish Silver Fern."

"The plant in itself is benign. It is used to boost one's immunity. But then I remembered someone mentioning that there was a flu epidemic here in the Ministry a year ago, and some people got really sick."

"It was then that it dawned on me. Breathing in the spores of this plant would be safe for someone who hasn't been sick. But what if....what if the person's immunity had already been compromised because they were still recovering from a bad viral infection." Melissa paused to allow the others the chance to grasp what she was trying to say. She just hoped that she was making sense right now.

"I've discovered that if a person's immunity system has already been compromised, exposing that person to something that is supposed to boost one's immune system just creates more complications." Melissa looked around at everyone.

"Breathing in the spores of the Scottish Silver Fern, may have caused a mutation in their genetic system, which may have resulted in these zombie like characteristics."

"Granted there may have been others who had caught the flu bug too and they haven't ended up being zombie like. Maybe they weren't as sick as the others...or maybe their immune system is a lot stronger....or maybe the mutation hasn't completed its cycle. Who knows." Melissa shrugged.

"Sir is there any way we can find out whether those infected right now, did at one point in time last year get sick or get exposed to something viral?" Melissa asked Mr. Bossman.

There she had said what had to say. Melissa slid down lower in her chair waiting for someone to scoff at her conclusions.

lazykitty 01-06-2013 10:53 PM

Ahem, going a different direction....... XD

It was when Wes slammed the door shut that Roxanne realized what a mistake her seating arrangement had been. Not because of who she was sitting across from, but she realized that she was sitting near enough to Wes to be in danger if he decided to go all 'Hulk smash' again. And he looked mad enough to do it too, if someone said the wrong thing. Meep. Not to mention that she definitely wouldn't want to be one of those who hadn't shown up to this impromptu meeting.

She waited for her turn to speak, then launched into her report, gulping nervously. "As for the round up front, all the zo-infected people have been caught and put into quarantine. Except for one, a Mr. Dimtri Burton, whom I don't believe has been seen around recently." She started mentally preparing herself to duck then, afraid that that statement would just anger Wes more. After all, who wants to hear that one zombie is still on the loose somewhere?

And as for Melissa's theory....... "I believe that Tyler was closer to the mark when he mentioned someone sneaking the infection in. With all due respect Melissa, if this thing was airborne, a lot more of us would have it. Since that's not the case, it's probably a bacterial infection, which means it's harder to catch, but also harder to get rid of. And more likely to be caught from food, or sharing glassware and silverware with an infected person." The next bit was something that she'd just realized a few days ago, but had decided to think over a bit before presenting it to anyone. And something that scared her a bit, too. "I don't know if anyone else has realized this or not, but most of the infected have some sort of connection to this very department. Skander and Kensi, who are both employees, Mrs. Ferguson, and I believe Simon and Ms. Tanner are close, no?" She sent a look down at the person in question for conformation before continuing. "I'm not saying anything's definite right now, but it might be something to look into, especially if Tyler's theory turns out to be correct." Which she personally was hoping that it didn't, because what if this hypothetical attacker wasn't done?

Uncle Moose 01-07-2013 12:23 AM

Saul listened to the one girl tell her speech about spores and what not, but he shook his head silently to it. The only part he agreed to was that he also ate in the food court, but wasn't infected. He was stopped before by his old friend Derek though, this was where he learned about the zombie infection. It was also where he learned that Dmitri was one of the infected too.

His eyes widened as the other girl spoke up just after she gave her information. Dmitri was still out there! "Should a small team go and round-up Dmitri Burton?" Not him though, he was fine doing the small jobs."I know him through a friend who works in Accidents and Catastrophes, So I could help pinpoint where he might be."

FireboltAvis88 01-07-2013 03:06 AM

Melissa listened as Roxanne made her point. She had to admit that her reasoning made a lot of sense.

"Hmmm...if it is a case of a bacterial infection, and that it was possibly brought in or transmitted by someone, uh...has anyone interviewed the bartender or the people who brought in the food? Did we manage to quarantine them too?" Melissa asked.

All she knew was that the infected people had been quarantined but she wasn't sure whether the people who had the most contact with the contaminated source had been.

Holmesian Feline 01-07-2013 03:44 AM

Simon watched as more and more MLE employees filed into the conference room, absently making note of who was there both familiar and non. Finally Wes appeared and sat down, clearly angry and what was happening and seemingly anxious as the rest for answers. The YATI bit the inside of his cheek as the meeting began and quite a few were not there including Jax, head auror. Oh well, perhaps he was on an assignment, he mused to himself, the young man switching back attention as orders were given for the information on hand to be shared with those gathered.

Having been assigned and busy taking care of things, namely guarding the suspect, in the DeTalone case, Simon was out of the loop in the deeper details of the illness. So he stayed quiet, listening intentively as various co-workers that were on the case to speak including Dacs. He couldn't help be anxious on the results of those tests, concerned not only for the group as a whole including his former boss, but his friend.

It started to get interesting when theories were being thrown out instead of facts and unknowns. Could it be bacterial? Or something more sinister? It wouldn't be the first time the Ministry was attacked both from the inside and outside and it surely wouldn't be the last.

Kaos.Doodles 01-07-2013 05:05 AM

Legend had been in the room from some time. It had probably been hard to notice him since he was doing a fairly good job of sitting, quietly with his hands in his lap. On his face there was no expression or even amusement in his eyes.

And when Wes stormed in Legend simply blinked. Reports. Right. He had no clue. Not after he had been ordered to keep watch of the crazy locked up lady with Simon. So Legend did the next best thing, and simply stared at Wes.

sweetpinkpixie 01-07-2013 06:54 AM

For the love of a Mandrake could Aron NOT have to run all over the Ministry with all this drooling zombie beaver stuff? Probably should come up with a name or something for all these people - and NOT zombies because these people were not undead - and the infected just sounded like something from a bad muggle movie. Meh, he would leave that to Mr. Head Cabbage.

Entering the conference room a little later since he had been in the lab organizing all his samples, including the new gnawed on wands, he found that he had come in just in time to hear the one honking daffodil of a woman talking about airborne diseases and other rubbish. Yeah, Aron was getting a little peeved over this whole situation and mostly because he was being called to all corners of the Ministry. He had research to do people!

"We ruled out the airborne cause months ago. I've been around these people and haven't become infected myself," he said as calmly as possible as he slid into his seat and handed Wes a report of all the names of those showing symptoms just for reference along with a quick report on the wands. "Jade over in Accidents and Catastrophes is trying to get memories from those infected as to what they ate before becoming...whatever it is they are now." He then turned his attention to Wes and lifted the bag of gnawed on wants. "Besides the drooling, showing weakness or lack of magical ability, it also seems like they like to gnaw on wood." See, drooling beavers as it were. "Is there a way I can get the wood and core of these wands identified? I don't know a thing about wandlore and I don't want to break these apart for lab testing. Call in someone from Ollivanders perhaps? Or does that weighing thingamajig do that sort of thing?" He actually had never used one, so he had no clue and sounded like an incompetent Dieffenbachia.

Aron then paused and turned to Roxanne. "As for this potentially being an attack on our department...I'm am not so sure about that seeing as I have samples from people in various other departments as well. International Magical Cooperation and Game and Sports being among those."

Davvy_Wavvy 01-07-2013 02:22 PM

Crashing this joint yo

To say that Layla had a rocky relationship with this department was an understatement but that would not deter her from coming to this meeting. She had slipped in just in time behind Wes and frowned as the man slammed the door shut. She felt the breeze from that.

What had gotten his knickers in a bunch?..Err.well besides all the infected zombie people they all stashed away somewhere in their department. NOt wanting to seat herself around their conference table, Layla conjured up her own comfy arm chair at the back and got settled in, quick notes quill and parchment at the ready. When this story got out it would make front page news..undoubtedly, she'd make sure of that.

Layla had to scratch a few things off quickly remembering that she was sent to the Prophet to keep the ministry looking good in the public's eye so it was ministry first and scoop later..or something like that, she'd figure out how to make this a good story and try to make the MLE department look like they were actually doing their job.

And there in lied the challenge for her. MLE..pfft.

FireboltAvis88 01-07-2013 06:56 PM

Melissa watched as Aron came rushing into the room looking all flustered. She couldn't blame him. He must be working overtime trying to find the cause of infection.

As she listened to Aron's report she frowned. Besides him, Roxanne had also discounted the airborne theory. She had tried to explain that not everyone would be infected especially if they didn't have a compromised immune system and she had tried to explain that her version of airborne was not one passed from one person to another by coughing or sneezing or even kissing. The reason she had used the work airborne was because it had been breathed in.

But Melissa decided to remain silent. Who was she to question the supposedly more knowledgeable senior staff of her department? She was here to help brainstorm the various possible means of contamination and help nip this epidemic in the bud before it spread.

She had given a thought as to why the infected had a penchant for wood. She figure that while she was here in this meeting that she would try to figure out the reason for it.

Fira 01-07-2013 09:26 PM

Was it odd that Josh felt alone in this place even though there were people around?

Standing in silence, his arms folded. He just listened as the others spoke. He had admitted to the Head Auror; he had been off his track because of many troubles in his life so he had no idea about how the zombie case was going on. It was wrong, of course and he knew that soon he might be yelled at because of it but what could he do? He let out a deep sigh and looked at Simon and Legend. They were silent too.

Okay then he would not get any attention if he just stood and stared too, would he?

*stare*

GlassXRose 01-08-2013 02:09 AM

Elinor continued pacing in a shallow line, listening carefully as others volunteered information. She was still peeved, but finally took in a deep breath and stepped up, seting down her folder and placing her palms down on the table.

"I also don't believe the infection is airborne," she volunteered, giving an almost approving look at Mister Aaron Ashbury Hawthorne Doughnut Eater Touch Everything-- The first one of it's kind, no doubt. "However," she looked back to Melissa, whom she made clear that she was not trying to discredit. "It is entirely possible that this plant may have had something to do with the nature if the infection. I'm not finished looking at the second samples of DNA I collected earlier today, but perhaps I can find some connection between the two."

She took a pause and flipped open the folder, glancing down at the top sheet of paper inside. "Now... As I said, I'm not nearly done with my samples, but I have a theory as to why the infected subjects who are manifesting symptoms crave wood. I contacted our consultant on magical and non-magical plants, after hearing this theory about the fern, and they gave me a list of sixteen essential elements that all plants require to grow. This list included Zinc and Potassium. The first samples of out subjects were all within the realm of normality. But the samples I have of the people already manifesting symptoms are deficient. Guess what two elements are alarmingly low in the genetic makeup of our subjects who are more progressed in this illness?"

She rifled briefly through the papers. "If this theory turns out to be viable, the cure could be something as simple as a series of injections to stabilize the body's production of these nutrients. As for why these people are affected, I don't know if they had prior illness, however," she looked back at Melissa, who seemed a bit discouraged after Aaron had voiced his concerns. "It would explain why contact with the subjects isn't dangerous to everyone. Not only have myself and Mr. Ferguson been in the room, but I knew an employee of level three was in there for some time, and our own samples are unchanged."

She took in a breath, having said pretty much all she had to say, and briefly eyed the door. Elinor wanted to get back to her lab so she could finish this. She wanted this over with.

Luna_Midnight 01-08-2013 05:57 AM

Sky watched as the angry boss-man stormed into the room...Someone was angry... After a couple minutes of watching everyone throw theories out instead of fact proven stuff. She had came to the conclusion that she agreed that it couldn't have been airborne but it also could have if the infected had gotten sick recently before they became all zombified, but that was rare for all those people to have been sick at the same time. She watched as Aaron came rushing into the room, shooting down the airborne idea....Gnawing on wood...Like beavers? With nothing to add Sky stayed quiet and waited until she did.

FireboltAvis88 01-08-2013 06:34 AM

Melissa sat up when Elinor submitted her findings to the rest of the people in the room. She smiled gratefully at her when she didn't discount her theory. The fact that she had not totally ruled out the possibility of the fern being partly the cause of the infection, made Melissa respect her even more. At least Elinor was willing to explore all options.

She sat forward when Elinor revealed that the victims' genetic makeup had indeed changed and was currently deficient in zinc and potassium. Melissa frowned trying to comprehend what Elinor was telling them. Were the victims turning into plants or did they subconsciously know that they were lacking the two elements all humans needed and were trying to get it from the plants?

Right now, all Melissa knew was that the victims has been exposed to something. Was it accidental or did someone knowingly and deliberately expose people for nefarious reasons? If it was the latter, what was their reason for doing it?

He was asking for her opinion because he trusted her judgment. Also, he had eaten in the Ministry cafeteria and not gotten ill, so there had to be only specific items which were infected.

"Never preface anything you have to say with, 'but it's not good,'" he told the guy sternly before cracking a rare smile, "especially not good ideas like that one." He moved his pen back to his notepad and circled what Tyler had said, adding some big stars and asterisks for emphasis.

"This. This is what we need to follow up on." Wes cleared his throat and looked around the room. "Where's Jaxton and Gabe? They should be taking the lead on Tyler's brilliant idea. You, of course," he pointed at the new guy again, well aware how intimidating that could be, "should look into this too. Form a team, take some Aurors, and review the records we have in the security office. We'll ALSO be needing to question the maintenance and those... Specialty area people." Since the outbreak had started in their area, as they now knew, they could be possible suspects.

"Again, good idea, Tyler. Keep up the good work." He gave the man a nod and turned to the next person.

SPOILER!!: Airborne, not airborne, plant to blame? airborne, samples report, and so forth people

Melissa listened as Roxanne made her point. She had to admit that her reasoning made a lot of sense.

"Hmmm...if it is a case of a bacterial infection, and that it was possibly brought in or transmitted by someone, uh...has anyone interviewed the bartender or the people who brought in the food? Did we manage to quarantine them too?" Melissa asked.

All she knew was that the infected people had been quarantined but she wasn't sure whether the people who had the most contact with the contaminated source had been.

"Now hold on a hot minute," Wes held up his pen hand with the palm flat in the air, "I think you're ALL on to something here. Let me think." He tossed the pen down and stood up, pacing back and forth for a few silent seconds. "What if," Wes continued to pace, "the cause of this outbreak came in on an infected Silver Fern? Perhaps it IS airborne, and IS caused by a defect in the plant, but the infection only sticks to... I don't know, certain foods?" He looked at Melissa, Aron, and Elinor, specifically. "Maybe it has to react to heat or coldness to activate. You guys would obviously know more about this stuff than I do, but that would explain why only certain people got sick, from eating certain foods. I think it's time to stop focusing on what is wrong with the infected employees and instead focus on finding a cure. Elinor, you're on the right track."

He resumed his seat and quickly made a few notes while they were still fresh in his mind. "I'm going to talk to someone from DERP to see what they make of all this. I'll also see if they can get someone to work on a cure with you, Elinor, and the team from A&C. We'll have to add in questions about the plant decor when we interrogate the cafeteria workers," Wes continued as he wrote with his head down, "but this is good. Great work. Now, about rounding up Dmitri Burt---."

Emily had been listening, observing, accumulating knowledge and understanding... context. She didn't need to take notes, being a Ravenclaw had its perks, even it she worked in a Gryffindor infested office.
Tyler dude made some good points... though a part of her wondered why the security check points hadn't picked up on these things. Did they not monitor stuff like that?

Jaxton.. the man was a ghost. In good ways and bad... but she wasn't about to sit back and do nothing. She wanted active roles.
"I'm happy to volunteer and help coordinate this... YATI's will benefit from some extra work."
AKA... please get her out of this office.

Wes's anger was a tad frightening. It really did draw him in to listen however, because the possibility of not listening if Wes directed a question to him was just not something he'd want to happen.

Eyes flickering to the woman as Wes' voice boomed, Legend blinked.

Er-was she...a new employee?

He had no clue.

This woman.....this woman. He had no clue who she was.....so...SHE HAD TO BE AN INTRUDER! And....apparently he had to escort her out?

Legend's eyes fell on the parchment in her hand and before Wes had said another word he drew his wand. "Accio Parchment! This is a confidential meeting lady." That meant no note taking or anything. Standing up, Legend made his way over to the woman and motioned his hand to the door.

Come on now. Get up and out, he didn't want to use force or anything.

Pretending this is after the feast and everyone knows about her BOG candidacy ;)

Ha, so she was right, Tyler had been close to the mark. Or had a good theory, anyway. But the next thing kind of confused her. Not surprising though, considering that she had never been one for lab work and the like. Too much of testing and chemistry and junk. Nope, she dealt better with facts and reasoning. She was glad, though, that she had also made a valid point. The thought that this may have been an attack on the department though...... yeah that was just a scary thought. One that had her staring blankly ahead. Going back to a previous thought, what if the attackers weren't done?

Roxanne had noticed Layla the moment she had entered. Really, the election had come to that already? Spying on each other? She gave a smirk when Wes told Legend to escort her out. Then Legend summoned her parchment, which just made Roxanne's smirk wider. "Really, you've sunk that low already?" And that was all she was going to say on that matter.

Seriously?

This meeting was taking to long already from his standards. He had things to do, and now that reporter lady was taking up more of their time! He slumped in his chair and waited for what was his name? Legend...heh that was a cool name. He waited until Legend took the Reporter out of the conference room.

What were they gonna do with Dmitri Burton?

Tyler listened to Melissa's theory which he had to say he thought was a good one from the beginning when she mentioned it to him in the office. But suddenly people were shooting her idea down and saying that he had a point. He? had a point? But he was thinking that it was not such a good one, cause if was right then that would cause panic and their security would be questioned. Then Aron piped up as well as some others who were not entirely shooting down Melissa's theory, cause who knows that could be right too you know! Cant shoot down what hasnt been looked into thoroughly! Then it was Mr Bossman's turn!

He was suddenly feeling very nervous as that pen got pointed at him, he nodded "Never will happen again Mr Ferguson" then he was smiling at him.. wait! even he thought that Tyler's idea was a good one, Ty watched as Mr Ferguson wrote that down and circled it. Well being in law enforcement he had dealt with security alot, so it was only fitting that it should apply here too.. cause afterall they had security here that could be faulty or needed to be looked at.

He felt elated on the inside but he didnt let it show as they were told they needed to follow up on this, and Tyler smiled as Wes wanted people to be taking the lead on his idea before pointing back at him.. which was quite.. intimidating but he probably had a reason for it. He was to work on this too? well he.. he could do that. He was to form a team now? he nodded "Yes Mr Ferguson I will that" He looked around the room.. did anyone want to question and review the records with him.. maybe after the conference was over he could ask a few of them and maybe send out memos to others that he may have missed asking. Tyler noted down that he had to question the maintenance people and Specialty area lot as well.. and looking into the records they have down in security office.

He smiled as he was told it was a good idea again "Thank you Mr Ferguson" he said before he listened to Mr Bossman talk about Melissa's theory as well as adding his bit in there. He watched as Mr Bossman started pacing the room as well as coming out with a theory as to how this could have happened. Tyler had to admit it did sound like it could have happened like that. It was possible, so that couldnt be left out either

Tyler watched as his boss sat back down again to make some more notes, and talked about talking to other departments to see if they could get this done. Get a cure and solve this once and for all. Tyler nodded along and he looked at his boss as he looked at a woman that was sitting there, as Wes questioned who she was, Tyler hadnt seen her before so he kept quiet. He wanted to nod that it was for MLE people only but he refrained from doing so and instead just listened as the Legend guy took the parchment away and told her it was a private meeting. He wondered what Roxanne meant when she said that the woman had sunk so low, was she a spy? spying on them and their meeting? So there was no trust within the Ministry now? Or did she not trust them.. they were doing their work! No need to snoop around.. they will get this case solved.. he hoped.

Who wants Melissa to do what? Just VM or PM me

Melissa listened as Mr. Ferguson finally spoke up after listening to everybody's report. She smiled at Tyler when he got praised by the big guy himself for his idea.

'Okay we now have something to go on. Tyler is going to find out what was brought in and work with Dacs and the Yatis. Elinor and Aron are going to find the cause and the cure. What do I do? Go back to collecting samples and leave the analysing and investigating to those that Mr. Ferguson assigned the tasks to?' Melissa thought to herself.

She shrugged. She didn't mind doing either or even going back to collecting samples. She was just glad that she had been able to present her idea to everyone.

She waited to see who would leave the room first.

I'm more keen on the potato. Easy to not mistake for something lethal." as she laced her fingers together.

She nodded as she agreed with Wes on the ideas of the others."I could help with questioning the maintenance and speciality department. That was the next step. I've already made her aware that we maybe needing to speak with members of the department." Dacs added as she looked at the brilliant MLE employees.
"A solid bunch here Mr. F." she remarked with an approving smirk.

Pffttt- Wes Legend and whats her face

Clearly Mr.Wes Ferguson was in a bad mood or whatever but this was some pretty good stuff that she was getting here. Her quill moved swiftly across her paper and Layla's eyes darted around the room taking in the faces of the employees there...

And then Wes happened....

Layla frowned deeply and caught the man's eyes briefly. You'd think he'd be a lot more sensible about doing something like this. She didn't fight however or make a scene in anyway. Nope she got what she wanted..only now she wouldn't be so nice about what she'd be writing in the paper. No, she'd just have to make it up to the minister in some way or the other. Her frown deepened even more..(if that was even possible) when the young man who was sent to escort her out took her quill. Well that was fine she had heard enough and that was that.

And on her way out Layla paused as Roxanne dared to make the statement she did. Well excuse her. Did she need to tell her that this had nothing to do with the BoG, she wasn't as caught up in that or desperate for the position as some people and clearly this woman wasn't even worth an answer. No, nose in the air Layla stepped from the conference room and headed straight for the prophet.

Holmesian Feline 01-09-2013 03:40 PM

Something finally clicking in Simon.

The unfamiliar woman came into the conference room and at first Simon thought she might have been a member of the other departments that were assisting them. However Wes' reaction to her presence soon cleared that thought out, the man asking Legend to escort her out of the room and department.

Turning back to the discussion, the YATI paid attention to all the bits and pieces being thrown out. Airborne versus edible and everything in between. The department head even brought up good points as the older man tried to round up the ideas into one conclusive range of thoughts. Simon listened for what he might been needed on even though a part thought he might be stuck on watch guard duty once more, though Emily spoke up in their stead to try and pull the YATIs onto the case.

However his attention was pulled away as Dacs mentioned foodstuffs that looked harmless being not so harmless, bringing the culprit back to ingestible.

What was it that had Kyle been eating or drinking that day she had first been ill?

Simon closed his eyes momentarily to try and sift through his memories of the day so long ago for anything that might be a clue. And finally it hit him...and he spoke up for the first time during the meeting. "You might attention to the hot beverages. Kyle...I mean Miss Tanner may have been drinking either hot chocolate or cider that day."

At least he hoped his memory was serving him well. And Dacs at least would likely remember what day he was referring to.

lazykitty 01-09-2013 05:42 PM

Everybody, but mostly Saul and Dorian with a little of Layla at the end

Multitasking. That's what Roxanne was doing right then. While she was busy listening to everything else that was going on, she began to search her pockets for a couple of pieces of scrap paper and a pen. Surprisingly and thankfully, she found some and quickly scribbled a note on both. She sent one discretely floating to Saul, making it land right in front of him.

Text Cut: Note for Saul
You know where Mr. Burton is? Come with me after the meeting and we'll get him.

-Roxanne (the blonde woman next to Bossman whose been rounding up all the infecteds)

P.S. Don't say anything outloud. Not with the reporter in here.

The second note was a little longer and was slid nervously across the table to Dorian.

I would really appreciate it if you would come with me and Mr. Knows Where Mr. Burton is. We really don't know what kind of shape he's in and with recent events, I don't know how effective I could be at catching him. Not to mention, I have a lot I need to apologize to and thank you for.

-Roxanne

She didn't add any of the stuff to the second note that she had to the first because, quite frankly, he knew all that.

Once that was done, she sat back and waited for Layla to be escorted out. And of course the woman would put her nose in the air. She seemed like that type. Roxanne thought about calling after her that she'd drown like that, but thought better of it. She had both her job and the election to think about.

She nodded as she agreed with Wes on the ideas of the others."I could help with questioning the maintenance and speciality department. That was the next step. "A solid bunch here Mr. F." she remarked with an approving smirk.

Sky looked over at Dacs as she mentioned potatoes. "I don't think it would have been something popular...Not enough people got infected. And mostly everyone eats potatoes. I think it would be a food that was less likely to be eaten. Something not everybody likes." She couldn't think of any at the moment though... She nodded over at Tyler great idea. She could help with that or with anything else that needed to be done, Dacs, or Tyler...Or were they working on the samething...It sounded different but whichever was fine.

Mostly Roxanne's note, but everyone else too.

Honestly, Dorian was a bit out of his element in the meeting. He didn't act as such, however, outwardly listening to all the theories that had been tossed around, both likely and unlikely, and Wes hadn't singled him out for anything yet either. It had been the introduction of the fern theory that had really brought home his illness-adjacent feeling. Ferns weren't counterfeit magic or equipment, and while he knew Aron worked with plants, it wasn't specific to his division and therefore he knew essentially as much as he had remembered from long-ago Herbology lessons and exams. The announcement of the interloper with the note-taking had made his grey gaze turn to the woman as she 'd made her dramatic exit, flickering alittle at the vague idea of recognition. Not only due to the knowledge she'd been Dacs' sister or another relation, but that there seemed to be something else going on. Something that might end up backfiring on Wes, but they had better things to consider. Namely, curing all the infected employees currently quarantined nearby, aside from the one who still seemed to be on the loose. That should neutralize most other problems they might encounter.

Simon's introduction of the possibility that the culprit had been a hot drink had brought his gaze back to his coffee cup. Only to land on the slip of paper that had been slid across the table and lay next to it.

"Do we have any information stating that any of the others might have drank either hot chocolate or cider before they started showing symptoms?," he asked, sliding the note nearer to himself as he'd spoken and discreetly opening it. The question was a logical one, especially coming off the idea that the fern infection could be activated by temperature. He vaguely remembered reading somewhere that bacteria and/or viruses might feed off of warm locations, and moisture. Therefore, if they knew that others had also drank any of the hot beverages, that could help direct the evidence analysis. He knew his own espresso was clear, as it hadn't come from the Ministry at all, but he also knew they were readily available down at the food court.

Tilting his gaze to the short message, he looked up again and gave the slightest of nods to Roxanne. He could accompany her and Saul on the search for Mr. Burton, provided Wes had nothing he would rather he apply his time to. That was the least he could do, although he wasn't entirely looking forward to the apology that had also been inferred. As far as he was concerned, it was unnecessary. Finding the rogue infected employee and curing all of them took precedence to personal matters.

Saul was now just sitting idely by taking in information on these infected peple, and it's possible cause when he found a note sitting underneath him. Sliding it down to his notepad he read it to himself. Scanning it with his eyes. He igured the worst has come to pass for him. He should have figured out a way to bring up that he knew where Dmitri was, and say he was busy so he could help with it.
He gave who he believed was Roxanne was a quick nod, pushed his glasses down to his face and slumped further into his chair.

RandomRaven 01-10-2013 05:01 PM

pretends that he didn't see the wands on reception and.. I had Roro's permission too

GROAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!!!

Bloodshot eyes, sharpened teeth, very pale compexion, well Dimitri really looked like a.. Monster (maybe.) He completely lost his mind and lost his ability to speak now. He couldn’t say anything beside groaning like a mad people now.

GROAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!!!

He didn’t have any idea what whould he do right now and where did he walk. Suddenly he just walked to the Level 2 where Magical Law Enforcement office located. They said people there has nice wands. WANDS! Dimitri loved wands nowadays, didn’t know why but he thought that the taste was nice but by the way.. WHERE DID THEY PUT THE WANDS? Losing his mind, he didn’t know that he had arrived at the Conference room where MLE people were having a meeting there.

Well, I hope you didn’t mind that this zombie interupt your meeting ;)

lazykitty 01-10-2013 06:02 PM

At least let her get a decent plan off first GOSH ;)

No sooner than she had gotten 'yeses' from both Dorian and Saul, her barely formed plan had been scuppered by the arrival of who, she guessed, was the zombie in question. Did they purposely do this to her?! Because it was like they were reading her mind.

So, needless to say, it was a not too pleased Roxanne that had quickly jumped up (overturning her coffee while she was at it) and run over to the meeting invading zombie, calling out "On it!" on her way. She whipped out her wand, grabbed each off the man's arms, pulling them together behind his back as she'd seen cops do several times. Then she aimed her wand. "Incarcious!"

It was then that she turned to Saul and asked him point blank, "Is this Mr. Burton?" Because obviously he wasn't going to be able to answer her himself.

Uncle Moose 01-10-2013 07:34 PM

His sulking into his chair took a sudden change when Dmitri up and walked right into the middle of their meeting! His glasses fell from his face, but he grabbed them before they hit the table. Saul sat straight up in his chair as Roxanne questioned him if that was indeed Dmitri.
"Yeah that's him, that Dmi...Mr.Burton." Just look at that goofy nose, and curly hair. Aside from all the zombie stuff going on with his face, that was without a doubt him.

GlassXRose 01-10-2013 07:39 PM

It really helped when people listened to her. Really, some people had no idea. Even if she wasn't hot on the idea of people from other departments in her lab, Elinor did a brief ego check.

Seriously, girl. Keep it together.

Better.

She flipped over the top sheet of paper and scribbled down a couple of notes on the back as more theories and more instructions were tossed around. Although she didn't agree with the idea that the virus had been injested, it seemed that a good part of the room did. Even though she didn't like spending more time 'testing' than she needed to, she could always be wrong. Aaron would probably be the one who would continue with the plant while she kept an eye on the theories brewing about the cafeteria.

For a brief moment, Elinor was very glad she didn't eat the cafeteria food.

When the door burst open, and it was apparent what was happening, the lab supervisor abandoned her folder and sprinted around the table, where Roxy had already pounced on the man. Elinor did not withdraw her wand right away, because she knew, in the next instant, there would probably be a dozen wands on him. On that same train of thought...

"Watch your wand, Roxanne," she mumbled cautiously. "Can we get a muzzle on this man?"

Elinor was only asking because she wasn't sure if it was a violation of rights somewhere, but knowing how the... affected patients could react and be violent, she would feel a LOT better if those teeth weren't snapping about. So, as carefully as she could, the woman restrained his jaw firmly with one hand, and with the other, gently pulled aside the skin around his eye, getting a closer look. His eyes were red and runny. Very red.

"I think it is," she answered Roxanne's question, even though she knew it was not directed at herself.

"How did someone not see him before this? This man has been afflicted for quite some time," she pointed out, to no one in particular. His symptoms were quite advanced, although she could not be certain to how he compared with the other subjects at the moment.

TSnitch 01-11-2013 01:57 AM

Dacs turned a bored look at Sky and said "I appreciate your input." in a less than appreciative tone. Before she could do anything, there was a surprise invasion of the meeting.

Roxanne had jumped up like an excited puppy and grabbed the man. 'Does she think this is some muggle movie?' Dacs thought as she palmed her wand. Walking briskly toward Roxanne and the man, she aimed at them. At the last second she turned the wand on him and said,"Petrificus totalus." as she aimed her wand directly at his chest. She was far enough that he could not grab her wand or else it would seriously be on.

Passing a withering look at Roxanne."Trying to change divisions Carter?" she asked. It's not usually a good idea to try to grab a 'semi- hostile' person. Keeping distance and using your brain is usually th e best thing to do. You don't know their strength, speed and what they are thinking. Dacs learned that the hard way back in her younger days. The last time she tried something that rookie- like she was thrown to the pavement.....hard."But I do appreciate apprehending first and asking questions later."

Turning to Wes, she said,"We need to get this sorted. Drool is one thing but wand snatching and snacking is another. I'll take on interrogation of the Speciality Department. Is there any objection to that."

Dacs was a woman of action and not so much words. That's why she loved and doted on this department so much. She personified her belief and meaning of MLE.

FireboltAvis88 01-11-2013 02:12 AM

Melissa had been taking notes as the others tried to narrow down what type of food could have been infected, when someone walked...or rather stumbled into the room.

It was Dimitri. The guy she had seen at the Meet and Greet Buffet Luncheon. 'Whoa he looks a lot worse than he did when I saw him.' she thought to herself.

The moment she saw him she kicked back from her chair, pulling out her wand at the same time and was about the zap the him, when Roxanne reacted faster and had him in ropes before anyone else could blink.

'Well done, Roxanne.' Melissa wanted to clap her hands but figured that it would be inappropriate to do so.

Then she heard Elinor ask why no one had noticed his symptoms. Melissa scratched her head before raising her hand....was she supposed to raise her hand?....not sure about that....she quickly pulled it down.

"Uh Elinor. I did point him out to Mr. Ferguson when we were at the buffet luncheon during the Meet and Greet Orientaton. But I guess he must have given the officers a slip and sneaked out before anyone could apprehend and bring him in for testing." Did she sound like she was apologizing? Melissa hoped not. She HAD pointed him out when she had first seen him. 'Oh well we've got him now. That's more important.' she thought to herself. One less infected person roaming the halls.

She watched as Elinor examined Dimitri. "Elinor do you think his DNA might have regressed more than the others who have been infected?" Melissa asked Elinor. She wasn't the expert on things like these.

lazykitty 01-11-2013 03:23 AM

And that was all the conformation she needed. Though Saul seemed a little shaken by his friend's appearance. But, she had to agree that it was a pretty freaky sight. Luckily for her, she'd been dealing with these zombies for awhile now and had somewhat gotten used to the creepy looks.

Just as she was about to haul him off to quarantine, Elinor came up and started giving him a good look over. Which she figured was okay, at least until Wes said otherwise. And watching her wand, right. The zombies just loved them some wood. So after conjuring a muzzle on Dimtri's mouth, she quickly stuffed her wand into her boot. "Really have no idea. The thing that really worries me though is: What if they did notice and just didn't bother to say anything?" It was then that she felt extra glad that she worked in this department. If anything like this had happened to her, it was sure to be noticed.

And then Dacs happened. "You know, she may actually have a point there. Don't just dismiss something because it doesn't jive with you think happened." And really? Just..... really?! She herself had been the one rounding up the infecteds, with the help of Jade and, once, Wes. So, in her mind, Dacs really had nothing useful to add to the way the zombies were caught. In fact.......nope not going there. But she couldn't resist one last jab. "Pretty sure he knows that, Dacs. Unless you're implying that our department head is stupid?"

Anyway, moving on. "Are you sure?" she asked Melissa. Not that she was doubting her, just that she was amazed that she could remember that back. She could hardly remember what she had for breakfast!

FireboltAvis88 01-11-2013 03:48 AM

Melissa was surprised when Roxanne asked "Are you sure?" She looked around to see who Roxanne was addressing her question to. Then she realized that Roxanne was looking at get. She pointed to herself. "Oh you were asking me. Yes I'm remember it clearly. I was sitting at the same table with Emily, when I noticed him bumping into the wall. Then of course I got distracted when Kensi pulled out her wand and I had to disarm her."

She then recalled who had come to help her. "Mr. Ferguson came to help him and after we had subdued her, he asked whether I had seen anyone acting strangely and I pointed out Dimitri to him. Dimitri was sitting at a table with some other staff. I'm not sure which Department."

ooc:She remembers the incident clearly, but it's me who may be getting the names wrong. Maybe case of getting charries mixed up. xD

Uncle Moose 01-11-2013 04:35 PM

Saul speaks up just a little more ^____^

Saul knocked his chair back as he stood up! "Muzzle?!" He gave the girl who recomended the option an intense glare, pushed his glasses up from his face and continued his glare on her. "He's not trying to bite us, he's looking for wood to gnaw on" That's one of the things they said in this meeting yeah, he took a quick glance at his notes. Yup Wood-Eating Zombies Saul wrote it down near the bottom of his notes. "The poor guy's already petrified too, just let Roxanne take him to the Quarantine room." They don't need to incapacitate Dmitri anymore than he already is. He may be a threat right now, but Saul just felt anymore done to his friend would be adding insult to injury. The Infected were the victims here.

Fira 01-11-2013 07:43 PM

''Seriously?''

His arms folded, Josh had been watching what was going on, leaving the task of dealing with that was going to his superiors in the department but with the way things had turned out he could not remain any silent.

The guy who just protested the muzzle (SAUL) was right. What did they think they were doing? The poor man was infected. He was the victim here. He did not deserve to be treated like that. Even though he knew she was his superior, Josh glared at that Dacs when she simply petrified the man without a warning, then, of course, to the lady who suggested the muzzle.

''Right.'' he said out loud agreeing with the man (Saul) ''The man is infected. He needs help not...this. It is not like an angry dragon just burned the door and walked inside, is it?''

GlassXRose 01-11-2013 08:22 PM

"No, of course," she said to Roxxanne, who had misinterpreted her question. "What I meant was-- How could he have been wandering around since then, and not been spotted." She cast a glance over to her before returning her gaze to the man, giving him a close looking-over.

"It's hard to tell, but... Yes. My initial theory is that Mr. Burton, here, might be... patient zero..." No, that couldn't be. Could it? Before she could continue trying to work that theory out, he had been petrified. She blinked at her now still subject. Granted, the conference room wasn't the best place to be conducting examinations, but it did tend to hinder the investigative process.

Unfortunately, Elinor had to round on the quiet fellow who interjected. It wasn't so much what he said, but how he said it. And Elinor was not fond of being glared at. She had to do her best to not glare back.

"Thank you, sir, for that observation. As you can see, though, Mr. Burton is not himself. These infected patients are dangerous, are aggressive." The woman glanced between him and the other gentleman who had spoken up. She had never had the pleasure of meeting either of them, but knew that the first impressions probably wouldn't be that great.

"Believe it or not, gentlemen, this is help. Although I don't condone petrification as a means of restraint, Mr. Burton does need restraint. Because, at the moment, this is not Mr. Burton, for the sake of argument. He is a very sick man. And when we cure him of this, he'll be happy to hear he did not injure anyone."

That was about the most polite Elinor could be at the moment. And with one final look of 'Don't tell me how to do my job', she turned from the two gentlemen and collected her folder from the other end of the table, hoping that Mr. Ferguson would then call the meeting to an end so that she could get back to her job. She had an infection to cure. And after that was all said and done, she would have to offer those two gentlemen an apology as well.

lazykitty 01-11-2013 08:58 PM

Welp, taking him to the quarantine room seemed to be a moot point now. But instead of pointing it out, she settled the now petrified Dimtri on the floor to make it easier for Elinor to continue her investigation. "Does anyone have a calming potion on them?" 'Cause it looked like Saul was going to need it.

Then the other Carter spoke up. Big mistake on his part because Roxanne had just been waiting on someone else to snap at and he had provided an excellent opportunity. "Hey, if you've not been dealing DIRECTLY with the zombies and their samples, you don't get to have an opinion, okay?" That he and the other members of that office had originally supposed to have been helping with the round up, plus her barely formed plan having been ruined only added fuel to her fire. So, if he wanted to argue about it, that's what was going to happen, mmmmhmmm.

In the meantime, she charmed her pants clean (since the zombie had drooled on her a little before being unceremoniously stunned) and walked back to her seat. And that was when she noticed her spilled coffee. She charmed the table dry mumbling an "Oi." and sat down, looking over at Wes with a 'Could you please just end this meeting now, before punches are thrown?' look. Because she was pretty sure it was going to come to that if this thing went on any longer.

TSnitch 01-12-2013 01:16 PM

Dacs rolled her eyes."We don't know what this is. We knows symptoms so far and have an idea of where it may have originated. For all we know seeing that he may have been one of the earlier ones, it could alter certain things. It could affect them all slightly different from one another based on their genetic make up seeing that it is an infection." she said calmy, turning to Roxanne she said,"Don't go getting sanctimonious on everyone in here because you have chased a few zombies and brought them in. Carter and Saul have a point. No need to string him up. He is still your co-worker. Let's get him some help." She decided to be the bigger person and ignore Roxanne's jibe at her.

Rubbing at the spot above her left eye where an ache was gathering, forcefully, Dacs looked at Wes and said,"What say you Mr. Ferguson?"

As she moved by Roxanne to take her seat she paused and dropped her voice in low deadly tone, that only she would hear her,"Wrong move Roxy.".

She moved swiftly and took her seat and turned fully to Wes, waiting for him to say something.

lazykitty 01-12-2013 04:12 PM

Sanctimonious my butt! Just, really?!? There was no way that that could be construed as sanctimonious. Maybe losing control of her temper, but not sanctimonious. But if Dacs wanted to see it that way, then she could be her guest. Oh, and that little 'warning'? If it was supposed to scare her, well it didn't. Roxanne had seen much scarier things in her life time. Like the Dark Wizard who guarded Knockturn Alley. So, the only reaction that that little threat earned her was an eye roll. Okay, and maybe a small scoff.

"We've almost determined the cause of the zombie problem and caught Burton. Can you please just end this meeting?" she asked, turning her attention back to the Bossman. Which may have been a mistake, but she just wanted out of there!

Uncle Moose 01-12-2013 07:07 PM

Merlin's Spotted Underpants! All he was against was the muzzle, how the hell did his one outburst cause everyone to turn on each other! What kind of MLE was Mr.Ferguson running? "I don't need to be calmed." He pushed his glassed up off his face. "I'm sorry for showing concern." He scoffed and looked to the Boss. He would blow a fuse if this was his wife that this all just happened to. Lucky him she was safe in the Quarantine Room.

He nodded to the two who agreed with him about him not being a threat, and needed more help than incapacitation. He's should really figure out everyone here. They were Carter, and Dacs yeah?

"Don't lay him on the ground!" Saul rushed over to where Roxanne put Dmitri down and propped his petrified friend up against the wall. "he's not a log, he's a person."

Luna_Midnight 01-13-2013 07:06 AM

Sky nodded at Dacs. Just as the meeting was interrupted by the Dimitri zombie guy...Wasn't that the guy Roxanne and some others were supposed to go find? And it looks like there was an argument over...A muzzle? She resisted to roll her eyes over such a stupid thing. The guy was already petrified...Why would he need a muzzle? She just sat...She wouldn't add anything onto this argument.

After Roxanne said an outburst and Dacs told her something, she really couldn't hear and it wasn't any of her business anyways. Wow..The blonde raised an eyebrow as she heard what Roxanne asked the bossman...Well this would be curious how this came out. She turned her seat as she heard Saul...Who had set him on the ground? Even if he was 'ill' that didn't mean he deserved being on the ground...So she agreed with Saul.

FireboltAvis88 01-15-2013 03:33 AM

Melissa just sat in her chair and observed the others argue among themselves. She had to admit that no matter what condition Dimitri was in, he still deserved to be treated like a regular human being. It wasn't his fault that he got sick.

Melissa hoped that Mr. Ferguson would take control of the situation soon right now before things got out of control.

lazykitty 01-15-2013 04:07 AM

Roxanne just had to roll her eyes at Saul's reaction. "He's not going to stay like that, you know. He's been knocked out, which means he has no way of keeping his balance. Therefore he's going to fall over. So, in that case, you can explain to him once he's cured why exactly he has a black eye." Had he not taken a basic health class? Or a science class even? Learned about gravity all that?

And yes, she was aware of the looks she was getting and didn't care. It had become a zoo in here, and her job was done. Time to get back to the much tamer de Talone case. She wasn't without sympathy, but she was sick of this entire situation already!

BanaBatGirl 01-15-2013 08:01 AM

about time I replied in here... THANKS FOR WAITING, YOU LOT ;P

Wes nodded curtly as Legend led the woman/spy/whatever she was out of the room. He waited for the door to close behind them before speaking again, seemingly picking up where he had left off.

"Right then, about Burt----" he started to say, only to be interrupted once AGAIN. This interruption, though, couldn't have been ironically timed if he had planned it himself. And the interruption, of course, was Dmitri Burton, International Cooperation employee.

Wes pushed back his chair and leaped to his feet, his wand nearly in his hand. Roxanne seemed to pounce on the guy though, and then there was a... catfight? Argument? An altercation regarding the altercation. Well well, Wes thought, let's see who remembers their training... and who does not.

He folded his arms and remained standing at the head of the table, his eyes flicking from one employee to the other as they stood around yapping and shifting Burton around. "No muzzle," he growled, in a low, dark tone that would shut any room up. "He's human. Treat him as such."

Wes moved around to where Burton was slumped on the ground and finally flicked his wand into his hand, levitating the man so he was comfortably situated in midair. "I think we're done here," he grunted. "Carter and Carter," yeah, you two, "take Mr. Burton to the quarantine room AS HUMANELY AS POSSIBLE." He shot Roxanne a glare and gave Elinor a bit of stink eye as well. She was the who had first suggested a muzzle. Rude. It was a good thing some of these people didn't know everything about him...

Then he focused on the others in the room. "Tyler, Emily, take the YATI and start reviewing anything you can find in the Security Office in the atrium. Anyone else looking for something to do - find a team and join it. I want the lab people in a lab - even the one on level 3, wherever - working on a cure. I also need someone to watch De Talone."

Wes headed for the door and paused when he remembered Dacs' question. "No objection to your interrogation plan, Dacs, just to how you treat your coworkers." His tone toward her was half-loathing and half-disappointment. "I'll catch up with you all later. Elinor, come with me to level 4. We have a cure to find."

And with that, the bossman swept out of the office. Meeting adjourned.

lazykitty 01-15-2013 08:27 AM

Okay, that went over better then she was expecting. Well, except for the glare. But she could handle that. Just as long as he wasn't making dents in tables again. "Come on, Josh. You heard the Bossman. Grab his feet and and we'll carry him between us," Roxanne said calmly, almost nicely, gently twinning each of her arms under each of Dimitri's arms, wrapping around his shoulders and pulling him out of the air. She didn't think humanely included magic, well, beyond what had already been cast on him, anyway. And this was the best way she could think of, because she didn't think either one of them were strong enough to bare his weight alone. In fact, she knew she wasn't.

While waiting for Josh, she caught what had been said to Dacs and the way it had been said, and raised a brow. Seemed that someone was on his 'list'. Though she herself was probably on it as well. But, she hadn't received near the reaction that the other woman had.

Good riddance.

Dacs stood up and began leaving when Wes answered her. Catching his tone and his words, Dacs couldn't help but roll her eyes and smirk at him.
"Always a pleasure to be your bane, sir." she said to him.

She brushed off his tone and started to leave the room with a few things in mind. She would have her one on one with Roxanne.

She cared about the job. Dacs had a bit more backbone than to just wither under the scrutiny of her boss or anyone not even the likes of Roxanne. She still had a job to do. If she sat around worrying what everyone thought of her, she would never had made it to where she is now.

Dacosta is her last name and that meant that she walked her own path to the beat of her own drummer.

"Anyone want to do interrogations, meet me in the MLES office in a few." she said in a raised voice.

Tyler and Simon; mentions of Bossman, Carter and Chosen

Finally.. orders. Things she could do without having to deal with petty 'adults' making a joke of themselves. This meeting.. not what she had expected. Disappointing really, hence her silence.

With a nod to the Bossman before he departed, she then swiveled in her seat so she was facing the direction of this Tyler bloke.
"Meet you there," she said, simply. She needed to gather her team.

"Simon and C--"... Carter wasn't going to be with them.. "err... you're with me." Wand flicking to her palm with ease, she shot off a patronus. Chosen ought to be there now that the trash was taken out.

As for De Talone... there were other people, and her people had been watching her for too long now, they needed to move and do other stuff.

Without a second thought, Emily rose from her seat and strode out. The YATI could keep up, yes?

It seemed his revelation or clue to on the case to assist fell on completely deaf ears from all those in the room. Or most of those in the room, not that Simon knew that. And then with the added drama of another interruption that turned out to be an infected ministry worker silenced any further comment that might have come. Couldn't people see it was getting worse and needed to be fixed...soon?!

At least they were finally being dismissed to do something, orders given out to various groups of people across the department. Emily really hadn't needed to add her own command, Simon had already been moving to his feet once he heard his title and the task assigned to it. Time to get to work and do his part and for once it wasn't guarding DeTalone almost needlessly. So the YATI simply nodded and quietly moved to follow his fellow auror out of the conference room.

Gaurding De Talone

Saul was about to protest once more to how Roxanne was attempting to carry Dmitri, but decided it was best to just let the woman deal with his friend as an inanimate object and tell him about it later. "I'll watch De Talone." Saul said somewhat unenthusiastically. He didn't have much else to do today aside for a few more papers. But guarding someone seemed a bit more useful then paperwork. He gathered his notepad and readjusted his glasses before leaving the Conference Room.

Roxanne Carter and Emily

Crazy women...

Josh just raised his eyebrows and stared as two women were being not so friendly towards him. Even one, Carter woman, snapped at him. Seriously? He was not allowed to speak up just because he had not been closely involved with the zombie infected people? It was not like he was commenting about how they worked in their lab or something, was it? He just wanted to point out that they needed to act the Burton man like a human being as he indeed was a human being. The young man did not say anything though. He had no intention of arguing with any of the women.

Instead, he just remained his silence and listened to the bossman when he finally started to speak. Yeah...end this meeting already...please. Simply because it had turned into something weird in which women liked to attack each other and sometimes men. He let out a silent sigh when he was told to carry the Burton man. Not that he had any objections. He just did not want to listen to the Carter woman's snappings at him as he did the job. He lazily stood up just after the bossman left and went to the Carter woman. Eh...they had the same last name, did not they? Maybe she could be friendlier this time.

He simply approached and eyed the unconscious man. ''That was seriously unnecessary.'' he meant using magic on him like this. ''What is done is done though.'' he watched the woman take the man's shoulders. ''Wait...um...Ms Carter. I think that part is heavier. Always it is. You take the legs....please...'' please just in case she would feel like snapping at him if he might not sound kind enough. ''...i can deal with the rest and we can get him safely out of here.'' He was a strong young man who had been working out for ages, after all.

Then he looked up when Emily...almost called him. He gave her a look that said 'Sorry. Busy with the Burton man' but then...he was about to ask if he could join them after he was done with this but Emily was already gone.

"Well, don't talk to me about it," Roxanne said calmly, matter of fact. "I was just fine with using the ropes." She felt that it was needless to point out just exactly who it was that had decided to use the body-bind, lest that start a whole 'nother argument. Which was the last thing she wanted right now. "Okay, here." She waited for Josh to grab his shoulders, then moved around to the feet. "Lift on three. One, two, three." Lifting the feet, she moved towards the door.

Tyler just listened everyone as they seemed to fight and heatedly discuss things between them. Did Ministry work always turn Law Enforcers on each other? *gasp* what if thats what the one responsible for this wanted to do? Well he would try to make sure they worked things out between them, all too soon Mr Bossman had given orders to them. Tyler gave a nod to say he understood that, he turned to look at Emily "Sure! sounds good!" he watched her get up and walk out of the conference room, well that was it.. time to do some work and find out who was responsible for this. "See you all around" he said as he walked out of the conference room too. This was so exciting! thats why he loved Law Enforcement work, never a dull moment in this department!

Wizengamot! *waves!*

The Ministry was re-opened and Wes was ready to get down to business. He had taken the liberties of hauling all the files on de Talone to the conference room, so as to give the Wizengamot people some space to work. Then he himself started reading over the files, with a hot cup of coffee in hand so that he didn't start to doze.

This was dull stuff, this reading.

Saiai 06-29-2013 04:37 PM

After having a nice break while the Ministry was closed Skander wasn't exactly looking forward to returning to work. Still, he was no longer zombified, which was a relief, and he was looking forward to moving forward on the prosecution of de Talone, so starting back couldn't be that bad. He'd still had two cups of coffee before he came into work, and was on his third as he walked into the conference room for his meeting with Wes and the new prosecutor.

"Morning," he said, as he took a seat at the table, noticing his boss was already there and reading, what he assumed must be, files on de Talone, an example he was quick to follow.

BanaBatGirl 06-29-2013 05:02 PM

"Hey Skander," Wes greeted the prosecutor as he heard him come in. He looked over the top of the file he was reading and gave the other man a nod, and after a pause, a slight smile. "You look well. Did you have a nice break?"

It was really good to see him not looking so... eh.... sickly, shall we say? Wes went back to reading his file after this observation. He knew they'd have a lot to explain to the new guy.

Magical Soul 06-29-2013 06:12 PM

*touches new place* yaaay

Vic strolled into the conference room with a copy of the daily prophets under his arm and a cup of steaming cappuccino in his hand. "Good day, gentlemen." So, like, what was the system around here? Handshaking? Nodding? Hopefully no one was a hugger. He raised his cup and nodded, greeting Mr. Ferguson then the other man.

"Ludovicus Bones. I was told this would be where the debriefing will take place." The man was the other prosecutor, right? Vic didn't just walk in some classified meeting...? Oh well.

Saiai 06-29-2013 07:24 PM

"It wasn't bad. It was nice to just be able to relax without worrying about anything," Skander replied, taking a sip of his coffee before setting it back down on the desk. "You?" he asked politely just before another man walked into the room.

"Hello," he replied, smiling slightly at the other man in greeting. "I'm Skander Beckett," he said after a moment, having looked the other man over while he introduced himself, in what could be described as a friendly tone. He seemed like a decent sort, based purely on appearances sake, and as it was safe to presume that this man was the new prosecutor, it would probably be best all round if they could be civil, or strike up a rapport early on. Especially since they were likely going to have to work closely together on this case.

As the winter break was now over, and as his family emergency trip to his home in Cordova, Spain was over, Rodrigo was finally back from his leave in the Ministry of Magic. It had been a long while since he entered the second level Department of Magical Law Enforcement. And as he entered the conference room, clutching a rapidly cooling cup of espresso, he was not in the slightest bit surprised that there were coworkers of whom he had never met. Take a rather large gulp of the still-too-bitter coffee, he first gave a nod to his boss, Wesley Ferguson.
"Buenos días, Wesley," Rodrigo said, his Spanish accent slightly thicker after having been home for almost a year.

He turned to the two male employees whom he had never met. He smiled his goofy grin.
"Hello," he said before taking another sip of his drink. "I am Rodrigo De Lacerda. Wizengamot stenographer." He moved forward to shake both of their hands.

BanaBatGirl 06-30-2013 05:10 AM

welcome welcome :3

"Yeah, that is a nice feeling," Wes agreed with Skander, closing the file for a second time when the new guy walked in. Oh, and Rodrigo was back! Excellent. So now that everyone was here... Wes stood up and made the necessary handshakes.

"Bones, Beckett, erm... Rodrigo," he wasn't even going to attempt pronouncing THAT last name, "let's get down to it. And yes, you're in the right place," he added with a wink toward the new prosecutor.

Wes passed out copies of the same file he had been reading and let them start looking them over. It contained numerous sworn witness testimonies, including that of several Hogwarts students and professors, expert testimony from a former Department of Mysteries employee, photographs, evidence logs, interrogations and statements from de Talone herself, and more.

"What we have here is a complicated case of thievery and an unusual bit of mild dark magic. And I say mild only because no one, to my knowledge, directly died due to De Talone's actions. Are you familiar with her story at all, Bones? Rodrigo?" Skander, he was assuming, knew things since he had been here for a while. But Wes only paused for a fraction of a moment for an answer before moving on.

"She started stealing time hundreds of years ago back when she was a student at Hogwarts. I'm not sure of the specifics of HOW she stole time, but it looks like some potions and possibly incantations from the Book of Mysteria were involved. Where we come into the story is in about three years ago, in January of 2078. De Talone had apparently enchanted a little crystal orb," he pointed to page of the file, where there was a photograph of the smashed orb, "to freeze people who touched it. The victims had no memory of freezing, as apparently the orb put them in some sort of suspended state of consciousness. Meanwhile, de Talone used the time they were frozen to keep herself from aging."

Complicated, and weird, stuff. "She was caught when the school Healer, a Cecelia Tillstorm, smashed the orb thus unfreezing all her victims. Additionally, a locket from de Talone's school days was found with her photograph and initials in it." Wes pointed to another image in the file. "After some research I guess, the connection was made that the same de Talone who had stolen an entire year of her classmates' lives back in her Hogwarts days was the de Talone who owned a bookshop in Hogsmeade village. When the students of Hogwarts confronted her about her thievery, two more students drank a tea that froze them while de Talone made her escape.

"She was caught a few months later in Diagon Alley, by Hit Witch Aubrie Hampson and myself. De Talone was apparently en route to withdraw all her money from Gringotts, no doubt to make another great escape. She's been held here on Level Two ever since while we have gone over her bookshop and hidden potions lab within with a fine-tooth comb. Her lawyer, Sydney Edgecombe, recently popped up before the holiday break, trying to make things messy for us and obscure some evidence no doubt, but I think we're ready to head to trial regardless." Wes finally took a breath. He should have brought himself a bottle of water in addition to the coffee, shoooooot.

"Questions?"

Saiai 06-30-2013 05:58 AM

Nodding politely at the man who introduced himself as the stenographer Skander determined that he'd really have to get to know people he was in the same division with a bit better. He'd never even seen the man before. Still, now wasn't the time to worry about that, and when Wes handed them all a copy of the file he concentrated on looking through it.

Skander nodded along with what Wes was saying, already familiar with some of the facts as he was in the Ministry at the time everything was being investigated, although there was obviously a lot he didn't know, considering the fact that he hadn't been involved in the investigation much.

"Do we know exactly how many people she's done this to and if she was tried when she was found doing this in her Hogwarts days? That would probably work in our favour in getting her a harsher sentence. Also, what do we know about Edgecombe and the tactics he might try to use, or has used to affect some evidence? Because that will most likely affect the way we want to run the trial, and if he's done anything illegal to obtain evidence in his favour, or to tamper with what we have, we could attempt to have him removed as counsel, or at least get some of the evidence he may claim to have, thrown out of court," Skander asked once Wes made it clear that he was open to questions.

lazykitty 06-30-2013 08:10 AM

After taking her time making her way over to Level Two, Roxanne had first stopped by Wes' office. But he didn't seem to be in there, so she figured the next best place to look would be the conference room. And it turned out she was right, because the closer she got to the room, the more clearly she could hear his voice. Peaking into the room, she saw that he was in a meeting with Skander, Rodrigo and some other guy. Talking about the De Talone case, which meant that Wes had finally found her replacement. Quite nice looking, too, but she wasn't here for that. Knocking on the door, she decided to throw her two cents in about Edgeworth. "Yeah, that guy is a real piece of work. I wouldn't put anything past him. Wes, a moment?"

Magical Soul 06-30-2013 03:10 PM

Shaking hands, whew, no huggers. Very good. Oh but their bossman seemed to like winking. Hmm. Vic's mouth hitched up in a small smirk before dropping his daily prophet and then himself on the seat next to the other prosecutor. More handshaking with the stenographer and then finally settling back for WORK.

He'd heard about this incident in Hogwarts, in the daily prophet mainly so not much really. He didn't have anyone in school to worry about at the time so the story pretty much flew over his head. But now, it sounded more serious than he fathomed. Vic flipped through the file as Wes talked, looking at the smashed orb's picture, cool move from their healer by the way but too impulsive. Then came the woman's face staring back at him. Oh, the stealing age was working well for her, he had to admit that, pretty despicable though.

Yes, the questions Beckett had voiced were important. They needed to corner this woman from every possible direction, choke her lawyer too, figuratively speaking of course. The sort of thieving she attempted was one of a kind, not sure he had heard of an age-stealing thief. "So it's dark magic, thievery, and violation of underage wizards and witches' rights. I'm sure her lawyer can't be that good to trespass all those." If he was, Vic was going to consider him as a mentor. Heh heh, jk jk

... oh. A lady interrupting their debriefing. Okay. Vic sank back into the case's file, reading.

Rodrigo sipped some more of his espresso as Wes handed him the file on the de Talone case. He skimmed it as Wes debriefed everyone on what had happened. So this crazy woman stole people's age. He had never heard of such a crime. Being in Spain the past year, he had heard of some events occurring in the British Ministry, but he had never heard enough to be familiar with this case. Seemed like a perfect time for him to return to Britain. This would be quite a case to stenograph.

He drained the rest of his coffee and set it on a nearby table as Wes asked if any of them had questions. He waited as Skander and Vic spoke. The Spaniard looked over at Wes when they had finished, for he too had a question.
"Yes, I agree with both of them," he said, not remembering their names even though he had just heard Wes say them moments before. "Are we in contact with any of these victims? You said they were unaware of being frozen via de Talone's orb, but can they help give us testimonies to further accentuate the extent of de Talone's actons?" He wished he had another cup of coffee. And was about to make a dash to go get more, when someone knocked on the door and entered the room. He paused, lowering his case file and turning to the woman asking for Wes. He redirected his gaze to his Department Head before looking down at the file and flipping through the pages.

BanaBatGirl 07-01-2013 02:04 AM

"She wasn't discovered doing this during her Hogwarts days. It wasn't until history seemed to be repeating itself a few years ago that Hogwarts realized this had happened before," Wes hopefully explained better. "I believe there were eighteen victims total, who touched the orb? Twenty if you count the tea drinkers?"

He glanced at a page in the file to double-check that. He sort of shrugged at the question about Edgecombe, though. "We don't know much about him, except that he's been de Talone's representation in all legal matters since... Merlin knows how long." He had the impression that that was quite a while, though. "As for the tactic he's taking with the trial...." Wes' guess was as good, or worse than, theirs, likely. He had a background as a hit wizard, not a prosecutor.

And speaking of prosecutors... there was one of his former stars now. "You just can't stay away from Level Two, can ya," he joked at Roxanne, though his face remained quite impassive. "One moment guys." Wes followed her outside the door and shut it behind him.

"Something wrong?"

lazykitty 07-01-2013 02:45 AM

"You know me," Roxanne volleyed back. Though it really did seem like she was up here just as much as when she had been an employee. "The lab down on Level Three just exploded. Aron thinks it was a security breach. I'm actually surprised you guys didn't hear it, because I could hear it all the way from my office." And had gone to help, which had been a mistake. Seriously, what had he expected? Her to just sit in her office while stuff was exploding?! Had Aron forgotten everything from his time in the MLE? "Everyone's fine, but the lab looks like a complete loss."

That got a slight grin out of Wes, though it disappeared just as quickly. "A security breach of what? He doesn't think it was just some stray chemicals?" His first day on the job as a department head, and his old employee just had to go blow up the Ministry's one other lab.

"I guess that means A&C will be trickling up here to use ours..." he muttered to himself, crossing his arms as he did. "Conference room's soundproof," he reminded Roxanne. "That's probably why I didn't hear it, anyway. What does Aron want us to do? Is anyone injured?"

See, this is why she'd come to Wes first. Thinking person. "Have no idea. Honestly, I thought of stray chemicals or someone just being careless and leaving something out over the whole holiday." But then again, Aron's snap judgement was probably made out of stress. Though, she wasn't one to talk about snap judgements right now.

Oh, right. She'd forgotten that little detail. "He didn't say. He just wanted me to come tell you." And thanks for that, Aron. A little more details would've been nice. "No injuries. It didn't seem like there was anyone in there, as everyone was running towards the lab when I arrived."

"Right..." That was the same way he'd thought. Hmm. Curious. A small frown etched its way to Wes' face as he thought this one out. Well... Roxanne's message had been delivered so he supposed he should get back to his meeting with the Wizengamot.

"I'll send a message to security, to have them check it out," he finally decided with a sigh. "Thanks, Roxanne." Weird that she was being Aron's lackey though. You'd think he'd have sent a person from his own level, or just a patronus instead.

"No problem," Roxanne replied with a slight shrug. Honestly, it wasn't like she doing anything anyway, except helping Aron put out a fire no one had seen. And Wes didn't know it, but his confusion was showing on his face. Not to mention that she was starting to feel a little foolish about becoming Aron's lackey in the first place. Wait a minute. Was this why Dorian and him had never quite seen eye to eye? Damn it. She really didn't want to admit that he'd seen something she didn't right then.

Anyway, she had better get back to what was turning out to be an eventful day. "I'd get back, make sure one of plants hasn't eaten an employee," she said with a laugh before turning to leave.

Feeling that one cup of espresso was not enough to keep him awake, the Rodrigo pocketed the file on the de Talone case and went back to refill his cup. He returned a few minutes later, sipping the too-hot coffee and reading the last page of the file. He looked back towards the door, for Wes was still speaking with Roxanne.

He could tell something was up, but didn't want to be a meddlesome employee; he knew all too well what could happen if he put himself in business he wasn't meant to be in. But having finished reading the file, Rodrigo was bored of waiting around for Wes to come back. He looked over at Skander, trying his best to smile, as he was still waking up.
"So, which division do you work for?" he asked. Having been out of office for almost a year, and also since he hadn't been on the job for very long prior to that, he did not quite remember who worked where, let alone the employees he had not even met yet. The Spaniard made a mental note to double check the employee filing records before smiling again at Skander.

Emma was only a few minutes late, surely they couldn't have gotten that far into the meeting, right? She opened the door to the conference room with her coffee in her hand. She let a small smile out, "Sorry I am late." Yeah next time she was going to wake up at the right time and you know not wake up her little kids and her husband in the process of trying to leave the home. She took sip of her black coffee before sitting down. They hadn't been talking when she entered, had they stopped for a random reason? Hearing a person she looked over to the person he had spoken to...Maybe she was the reason no one was talking.

Looking up from the file that he was re-examining, to see if he could think of any other questions, Skander looked over to Rodrigo as he sat back down and spoke to him. He thought that the answer would be kind of obvious since he'd been talking about how certain information would help with the prosecution of the case. Then again the guy did look half-asleep and in MLE, and within his other experiences at the ministry, he'd learnt that you shouldn't just assume things, maybe that was what Rodrigo was doing.

"I work for the Wizengamot as one of the prosecutors," he replied with a smile. "I'm also the liaison for level two," he informed him, quieting when he noticed a woman looking over at him. He didn't know who she was, and was therefore assuming that she was new, but he shot her a smile nonetheless.

"Don't worry too much, we were just discussing the case when Roxanne came in and needed to speak to Wes, I'm sure he won't mind too much," he told her, giving her a polite smile.
