His left eyebrow perched itself up higher on his brow bone as a few questions were directed his way. His head turned her way slowly, eyebrow still holding itself up. His eyes wandered over her, her blonde hair catching his eyes first before he took in everything else.
The corner of his lip turned up into a crooked smile of sorts. "Am I that obvious? How is it that you figured me out?"
Maybe his curiously disappointed eyes had given him away.
Jasmine grinned when the guy finally spoke. He seemed like he was in deep thought. "Hmm it wasn't too hard to figure out. I mean you seemed like you were sulking at this table for starters. Usually non new members are talking to their fellow colleagues. I also have intuition which usually never fails me." she grinned and took a sip of her drink. He seemed pretty cute too. "I am Jasmine by the way." she held her hand out to shake. Let's see if he dealt with physical contact.

And she did.
Hence her doing a U-turn and going straight back to where Mordred was as soon as she noticed him sulking by himself. Surely he had friends at work??? Sophie always assumed he did, since... well, that was where he spent most of his days. Merlin, what a bad wife she was! How didn't she know that he was always by himself??
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Was Mordred ALWAYS by himself at work???? Noooooooooo!! That was so sad!! Sophie felt terrible and the fact he was toasting a drink... by himself... Uuuuuugh, her heart couldn't take it!
So she RUSHED his way and basically glomped him.
DON'T be sad, husband!!!!!!!! And please don't be drunk either.
Half-way through drinking his wine, Mordred did not expect the sudden force that would envelope him. Spitting back the drink into the wine glass, the dragonologist got semi-choked as he inhaled air and swallowed the remnants of the sweet liquid down his throat at the same time.
Coughing, he immediately got his clean, white handkerchief and wiped his mouth with it as he wrapped his other arm around Sophie's waist. The smell of her distinct perfume and sweet shampoo wafted around him. "Sophie...love? What...is everything alright?" Did she see something disappointing? Did she receive a patronus bearing bad news...WERE THE TWINS OKAY??!
Immediately summoning a chair for his wife, Mordred forced her to sit down. As soon as she was settled, Mordred wrapped a protective arm around her shoulder. "Hey...are you okay?"

Welp. Making her husband choke was not her plan, so she released him a little so he could clear his airway and breathe normally again.
"Yeah. Well, is it? Are you okay? Why are you here by yourself??" WHERE WERE HIS FRIENDS??? Or at least... his co-workers?
...
Why was he asking if SHE was okay?? It was HE who looked sad. "Are you okay? You look... not okay." Should she tell him he looked miserable? Angry, even? Deep in thought, that was for sure, and knowing Mordred... that might not necessarily be a good thing. "What's wrong?"

"I'm involved in research and records," Blaire replied casually before taking a sip of her drink. She'd gotten so used to telling people that, she almost believed it was true. Her gaze shifted to the dance floor briefly, noting that it was starting to fill up, and returned to Regina moments later.
"I'm sure you've seen your fair share of interesting things working in customs. Would you say it is an eventful job?"

Research and records. That sounded dull. Heck they have research and records at the IMC and it didn’t sound that dull. Purposely evading? "And what sort of research do you do Blaire?... The things that are worth recording?" she asked coyly. Is this conversation recorded? Ohhh this has just whetted her appetite.
"Ah, customs work is always an eventful job." she replied with a knowing grin. "Never a dull moment. The things that people try to bring in for the most ridiculous of reasons." she laughed, making light of all the strange, the shady and the swanky. But which is why she loved it. One look at her and it shows.
"Are you here alone tonight?" She just had to wonder. Women of Blaire's age are usually with someone, some ridiculous chap hanging on their every word.

He figured most of them were still in university, but there was always that person in every class who'd be too eager to rush into adult life. He couldn't see someone at first sight, though, and Vic was asking him a question, so he turned to her.
"Wherever my lady wants," he said with a smile, and pulled the chair for her.
Victoria Culloden's husband was the ultimate gentleman, see?
Always the gentlemen. He had been since the day she met him. Her husband of now five years had always been lovely to her. SHe couldn't believe it had been five years already. She enjoyed every minute of their life together. "Think Bart and Cinna can handle the girls?" It was a silly question they both had been around little children for so long now it was second nature to them.
Taking a bite of her food she let her eyes move around again, "I haven't seen Mariel yet, we will have to say hello to her and Jorge." Knowing they always go to Brazil for the holidays she'd like to catch up with their friends. "You look very handsome this evening." He always looked handsome though.
Cora had almost decided against coming tonight; she wasn't in the mood for attending this thing like she usually was. Her sister had been driving her up the wall during Christmas, and Yasmina had been fussy and bad-tempered all day today, and Cora was just done with everything right now. But getting out of the house and away from family for awhile sounded more appealing than wallowing in her sour mood alone, so she'd forced herself to get ready for the event. Thankfully Cadence was still willing to look after Mina, so Cora had taken her over there before she arrived at the orientation.
Deciding it would be wise to let herself relax first instead of immediately jumping into socializing, she grabbed a drink and a seat at an empty table, simply observing everyone else for now.
Toni is attending an orientation but she see it as a party. She look at the whole place, deciding where to sit, then, Toni saw, the lady, look like alone. Hello, can I join you sit here., Toni's intro upon arrival the the almost empty table smiling at her best.
please take me, I really need to sit, before my leg cramps., Toni's mind racing.

So far, so good in here. The people in the Ministry of Magic seemed like great people to be with. Rani's experience with different kinds of cultures from her travels did open her to more personalities. It really did her well in the long run. She had just been with her niece/cousin Amrita at the buffet table and, really, the food was amazing. Well, she couldn't wait to go home and share her first day of work-ish to her mum, dad and, if he wasn't busy being the big bad director of his company, Aanand.
Well, a lady should never be left cramping, and that was what exactly her legs were doing. She'd been standing for quite a while now, plus waiting in line at the buffet table too. Rani decided to take a seat for a couple of minutes before going around and mingling with the others.

Yves finally made it through the entrance and into the hall. She stood for a bit trying to familiarized herself with everything. Everything was new and especially the company. Maybe she was just used to seeing the people she worked with but that was years ago. She needed some new faces into her bucket list. That and the fact that she needs to at least know who her co-workers are. The faces of the employees started to merge and so she walked towards the chair and had a seat.
This looks nice, she looked at the decorations and it looked definitely nice. She placed her black clutch on the table. Maybe she needs to get some food and drinks.
Though he normally was one to keep to himself, Oliver made a New Year's Resolution to meet at least one new person that did not work in his department. Becoming friends with said person was an entirely different matter, but he thought he could be a tad more social, even if he couldn't talk about his work.
It had been an eventful Christmas with the return of his sister, but she seemed to be doing a little better and he tried to keep any other thoughts at bay. There was still a lot that was concerning, but she was under professional care and he needed to remind himself that he was here to be social.
Once he got himself a plate of fancy-looking finger foods from the buffet, Oliver made his way to the seating area and looked around. There really weren't any completely empty tables, but that would defeat the purpose of being social, wouldn't it? He decided to find a table with an odd number of people so he wouldn't feel he was intruding on a personal conversation. Looking around, he spotted a woman who appeared to be close to his age sitting alone.
"Mind if I have a seat?" he asked, once he approached, still holding his plate as he stood near an empty chair. He didn't think it would be an issue, but was trying to be polite.

"Sounds like the department is fun and lively.... which I guess makes sense." She said with some laughter in her voice.
The 18 year old nodded her head."Yup!" I graduated from Hogwarts just last summer. My friend Emma thinks I am crazy for getting a job right after Hogwarts. She wants to wait at least a year before starting a job." She said smiling.
Lucas was still smiling. He was already liking Melody. He liked the way she was interested in the department and the jobs there. "I'm a Public relations officer which means that I liaison with certain persons to publicise the games and so forth. Getting the maximum advertisement out there.'' It was something he loved doing because of all the persons he got to meet.
"It is. We've got the best Department Head, you most likely meet her later on if you haven't already, and some other really great persons.'' The best was Tallie. No one was better than his best friend, not even him. "Were you into Gobstones at Hogwarts?''
Lucas laughed. "I would disagree with your friend. It's never too early to gain a little experience and expand that resumé. I guarantee you'll have lots of fun here so it won't feel like you're working all the time, Melody.''

The thing about drink stains which Claude learned the hard way was that they stuck to a dress like a magnet. After a few futile magical spells the blond young woman left her table to find the ladies room. There she finally got the stain removed, but a big wet blob took its place down the front of her pretty red dress. To make matters worse Luc still hadn't showed up.
Not allowing herself to curse the MLE either inwardly or outworldly Claudette headed back out to the seating area with the intent to enjoy her evening. Picking up a plate of food from the buffet she slowly made her way back towrds her table.
A table that was now clearly occupied by a female someone else. Approaching the table she plastered on a cheery smeile and let her sea blue eyes find the other womans as she asked "Mind if i take a seat? I don't want to eat alone."

Yves wasn't going to admit defeat besides the party still hasn't started yet. The fact is she feels a bit foreign for some odd reason. She's usually bubbly around parties and introducing everyone how her daughter is now a teenager and whatnot. This is different. It's a new country, new city, new work, new people. But she just have to get through it. So she got up and grabbed her plate to get something to eat. Nothing too starchy for her. She came back with a couple of desserts on her plate and a celebratory drink for that matter.
She took a bite of one biscuit and it definitely went well with her drink. After 2 more biscuits then she will get up and start making new friends. But before she can take a bit on her second one a man stood beside her. She glanced a him and shook her head "not at all, please." she gestured her hand for the man to take the empty seat. Smiling at him "Hello I'm Penelope Yves Hanley but please call me Yves" she chuckled while introducing herself to him. "I'm new here." well, new to everything.
Glancing into the far back corner, Francesca spotted one of the few empty looking tables and began to walk through the crowds of people. She really wasn't a dancer, but wasn't hungry either, so resorted to watching everything from a distance. As she passed large groups of employees, all chatting in large groups, she felt a slight pang of jealousy, but it was overtaken by the now somewhat shy Francesca, one that hadn't come out in years.
Head down, she sat down at the table and watched the dancers in the distance, wishing that her friendly, confident side would come back soon.

More like a Welcome Back to the Ministry" party before the hectic days at work. Come on, there's no thing such an orientation for the old employees, right?

Rani's initial plan of going around and mingling with other fellow employees was cut short, because interaction found her instead. She didn't mind though, so the twenty three year old smiled at the other woman who was now in front of her. "Oh, I don't mind at all. Do have a seat," she said and offered her a spot, maintaining her smile. "New employee?" Rani wasn't planning on being alone the entire orientation either. Sure, she had Amrita and River somewhere but she didn't want to be a kill joy and ruin their chance of conversing with others. "You have such a lovely dress. What happened, though?" And what a way to begin the new Ministry year. Must've been difficult.
And yet another great surprise to be joined by yet another employee. This one looked like he had been around for quite some time already. At least, that is what Rani thought basing on her first impression. She smiled at him too. "A pleasant day to you, Sir," Rani said to him. "I wouldn't mind and I believe she doesn't either." Rani's brown eyes looked at the woman who had joined her earlier. She could speak on her behalf, right? Besides, she didn't seem the type to turn down a request. The gentleman in front of them didn't look like any harm at all.
"It is nice to meet you both. My name is Rani. Rani Malhotra, International Cooperation," she introduced herself to the other two.

Gratefully taking the offered seat opposite the attractive dark haired woman who at closer inspection appeared to be around her own age Claude murmured. "Thank you." Putting her food plate down on the table well away from the table's edge to not repeat the accident from earlier she shook her head in response to the other woman's question. "No, I'm a returning employee actually. I've been at the ministry for a year today. Are you new?" It was a fair guess considering the goal for the orientation event.
The wet blob down her red dress front naturally came up in conversation seconds later which caused Claude's face to turn an embarrassed pinkish tone. It didn't help matters that a dashing man decided to join their little table, and of course also show curious interest in her dress accident. Licking her lips and pulling a blond strand of hair back behind her left ear Claude replied quietly to the both of them. "I don't mind either.... I accidentally spilled all my tasty strawberry drink from the buffet all over my dress front. Strawberries sadly make hard to get off stains."
Turning her gaze to meet the woman's brown eyes, her embarrassment completely forgotten replaced by excitement in reaction to the woman's introduction Claude said "It's a pleasure to meet you too Rani. I'm Claudette Poignant and I work in International Cooperation too. Do you know what your job will be?" A new close colleague perhaps?
Switching her blue eyed gaze to the gentleman at their table she asked curiously "You're a senior employee right? And you work for another ministry department? Could it be the MLE like my boyfriend Luc?"
Glancing into the far back corner, Francesca spotted one of the few empty looking tables and began to walk through the crowds of people. Macario wasn't much for these types of events. He'd rather be in his office working, Not much of the socialite. And he was attending. He headed over the toward the back tables in the corner. Seem like the best place for him. He waved at fellow co workers as he passed, greeting them. He continued on to a table farther back. Once he was in the back there wasn't many empty tables. Most of them were pretty full. He spotted one with someone sitting alone.
"Mind if I join you?" Asking with a polite smile.

It's nice to meet you, sir.
Sir??? Was he really that old? Well yeah, he's turning 29 this year. But well, men are like wine. The older they become, the better they look. Ahem. He didn't think that this new girl on the block thought that he's old, maybe that she's just trying to be polite. "You don't need to call me sir, young lady." The Korean said to Rani. "I'm not that kind of formal person. You can call me Micky." Not as in Mickey Mouse, the weird muggle mouse cartoon who has funny voice.
What a coincidence that Micky met two girls from the level five. "It's very nice to meet you both." He kinda hope that he would bump someone new who's gonna work at his department. "Nope, I am not an MLE guy. I work in level three; Accidents and Catastrophes." And they weren't less cool than the MLE. In fact, they were cooler.

It's a fairytale evening, and you want the entire event to be totally dazzling and
a real experience with the friendliest people around you.
Oliver gave the woman a smile as she gestured to the empty seat and he sat down with his plate of food. "Thank you," he nodded in appreciation. Of course, most people had good manners, but one never did know when they'd come across the random rude person. Thankfully this did not seem to be the case.
"Yves.. nice to meet you," he smiled as he began to butter the roll on his plate. "I'm Oliver. Oliver Glendower, but you can call me Oliver," he added with a chuckle. "Oh, your first year? Last year was my first time here too, so I understand." It seemed like a long time ago, but then again not so much. Still, it was funny to see how much could happen in a year's time. "What do you do? What department will you be working in?"

"Sure, go ahead" she answered, doing her best to respond with a genuine smile. She shifted awkwardly in her seat. Come on, just introduce yourself! she told herself, giving herself a mini pep talk. She opened her mouth a few times, but nothing came out, and she sighed. Eventually, after a lot of self-convincing, she spoke up.
"I'm Francesca," she said, and smiled, half out of trying to be friendly, and half with the relief that she had finally spoken. See, it wasn't that hard, was it?
Cosgrach laughed at the question as he sat down across her. "They'll probably hate life by the end of the night, but yeah." The kids loved their big brother, and Helena wanted to do pretty much everything Cinna did - that was how much she idolised the older girl (now the husband of Bart - it was so hard to get used to!).
At the mention of their friends, he looked around to hopefully spot them too, but he couldn't. "Of course," he just said, and focused back on her.
"I try to be worthy of you." He smiled charmingly. He couldn't afford to look bad as her husband now, could he?
"Did you meet the new employees?" Were they yay or nay?

With the same smiles he took a seat beside her Macario was not a man of many words to be honest unless it was for work, or someone he knew. He was also a very private man especially around co workers. He worked hard and went home it was always the way he was. But slowly he was changing that. He might have Kate to thank for that.
"Macario Castella. Department of magical law enforement. Ministry Prosecutor." He put his hand out to shake hers. He was being pretty cool with this. Just a few more hours now Mac you could do it. Maybe he should have invited Kate to be his guest.
SPOILER!!: Crashing this cuteness party :D JK

Mercedes left Chris by the dance floor to find a table for them. Chris could entertain himself while she found a seat for them, and socialize a bit.
It was always so hard to get a table at these things sometimes. She'd rather sit with people from her own department. She knew people from outside her department but she liked being with her co workers at events like this.
Speaking of co workers she spotted Luaus and waved. Not to much farther down seen Victoria and Cosgrach. She walked up to the table they were sitting at. "Hello, Vic, Cos. How's the night going for you two?" No Kids, so probably Just as well as it was going for herself and Chris. QUIET. Ahhh you gotta love these kid free nights.

Rani smiled towards the other woman. She didn't seem like the mean type of employees that her brother had in their family business. "No problem," she replied. It wouldn't hurt to have company in this place too, considering that she was new to the Ministry. After all, making friends and acquaintances were part of the agenda for today, yeah? But, she wasn't new as Rani had initially thought. "Oh, I'm sorry," the twenty three year old said. Her bad, oopsies. "How was your first year in the Ministry, by the way?" She'd had to know, especially from someone who was new to this for a while, and recently too.
As for the other employee, the gentleman, Rani gave him a smile too. She was feeling extra friendly today, and she was very well aware that first impression lasted for quite some time too. She didn't want to end the day with bad impressions anyway. "I apologise. It is nice to meet you, Micky," she corrected herself this time. It was evident that there was an age gap between the both of them, but Rani respected that the man preferred to be addressed by his first name. She was just so used to the formality especially since she had traveled a lot prior to applying here. "What do you do in your department?" It seemed interesting, she thought.
Oh, what a coincidence! Claude was in her department as well. Rani secretly hoped to be able to work with her soon, if ever their roles or positions do happen to coincide. "I was accepted as Foreign Relations officer. Traveling is a passion of mine, you see. What about you?"

Claude turned her head to the gentleman at the table that introduced himself to her as Mickey. His accent sounded pretty similar to Rani's. But that was probably just a coincidence. Furrowing a brow in slight confusion she asked Mickey. "It's a pleasure to meet you too Mickey. What does the accidents and catastrophes department do?" Were they a sister department to the MLE? Hopefully Mickey would enlighten her.
Tasting some of the finger food on her plate Claude looked over at Rani as she threw another question her way. "My first year in the ministry has been eventful and fun. I've met a lot of interesting people and gone out on interesting and challenging work assignments. Mr Yenorin is a good boss."
"I work as an immigration officer. In short I help new employees settle into the ministry and England , find them a place to stay, give tours and generally just help them out with anything they might need assistance with." Would Rani need her help? "Have you travelled to lots of countries all over the planet then?" Since travelling was passion...
Eyes turning to Mickey Claude asked "How many years have you been at the ministry?"
