The 'Meet' ThreadsWhile you can't ask questions in these old threads, you can still read through this archive and get to know a mod or an upstanding member better!
Hey Welcome to Snitchseeker, all that... Anyway, I'm Kristin, and one of your friendly mods of the month, representing August. And I'm writing this at almost 3 am, so excuse any babbling. xD
A little about me and SS: I've been a member here since December 2007, joining upon the suggestion of another member of Snitchseeker who I'd become friends with on Dissendium.com, and been involved here ever since. Starting with the RPs, where I had two terms as the Ravenclaw prefect, then one as Quidditch Captain. And when the Diagon Alley RP started, I joined that as first a shopkeeper assistant at Gringotts, then moved on to shopkeeper of Madame Malkin's, which I still am now, along with the supervisor of the north side of the street. I also am involved in the Ministry RP, as a member of the department of Magical Law Enforcement, and have been the Divination professor in the school RP for the last two terms.
Outside of the RPs, I'm also one of your lovely mods right here in Platform 9 3/4, and I wrote for the site magazine (and was head writer for), Seeker of the Snitch, until it was dissolved fairly recently due to time issues. I'm also the sponsor of the Arthur and Molly Weasley fan club, and am a member of quite a few others.
In case you haven't figured it out by now (or noticed my tag), I'm a bit of an RP addict, but luckily that only began after I was done with schooling. Yes, I am an adult, with a bachelor's degree in art, emphasis in art history. Although, I don't use my degree much, seeing as I'm a lowly sales assistant at the Kohl's near my house. My house where I sadly live with my mother (who doesn't appreciate my being just this side of an insomniac) and my cat, Hermione. I love to write/create the multitude of characters who populate my brain, read (of course), watch television/see movies, draw... I've known how to cross-stitch, crochet and knit for a while now but haven't actually created anything lately...
Now to set you loose. Feel free to ask me anything, and I'll try to answer the best I can. (There are some types of questions I struggle with. Just to warn you) And definitely, have fun and keep aware of the rules. Wouldn't want to start things off on the wrong foot.
Hi silvertiger! i've read that you DRAW.. do you draw harry potter scenarios/characters? if so, can you show some of your artworks? i'm a big sucker for HP artworks, so pleeaaasse.. thanks a lot!

You're welcome So now I have to ask you something, eh? Well here goes... What is your most missed memory from Dissendium.com? I'd ask your favorite memory of SS thus far, but undoubtedly it's RP related ;D

Hi SilverTiger......also a college grad (BS Education) working in the retail world (31 years now). The students are my customers and the subject is what fits their needs. Although Black Friday kills your body and your soul, I've made a respectable living and own my own home. Hang in there if that's what you want to do. You seem to be very outgoing and you can move up quickly if you let your wishes be known. No, I'm not in management....I make more $ than many of them do.
As for my question.....how do you work your mod time around a retail schedule? What is the shift time for a moderator?
Hey SilverTiger, nice to meet you! I've been wanting to learn how to knit for ages, you just reminded me of that In the RP realm of things here, is it a daily/weekly/other kind of commitment? I've never done anything like that before, BUT everyone is making it sound like a lot of fun.

Good question. Honestly, I was excited, yet really nervous that I wouldn't do a good job. And I'm not really sure how I did, either, only having the position for one term in the RP and that being a term where Ravenclaw didn't win. (yes, I'm a Ravenclaw)

Unfortunately, no. I haven't done anything HP-related, beyond a drawing of Hogwarts for the RP ages ago. Most of my drawings are from the classes I took in college, and not necessarily appropriate for SS. (aka a lot of the stuff I have uploaded is from Life Drawing class.)

Okay, that's a loaded question. I've registered twice, actually, but since I have a Yahoo mail account, I have yet to get a validation email for either Pottermore account. *sighs* And I'm wondering if it's worth it to keep trying or if I'll just end up waiting til October.

Well, Being part of the Ministry RP, as well as any of the RPs here on SS, is actually quite fun. Dramatic, occasionally, but there also can be slow times. Kind of like real life.

I kind of expected you to pick up on that. And thank you again. Did you ever expect I'd be here when you annoyed me to join?
And to answer your question... probably the Triwizard Tournament on Dissendium, as that was what really got me into getting online whenever I could to do things in the HP world. (I was sneaking on Dissendium using the computers at my university to participate in the events. xD Bad me.) And I'm not sure, although you're probably right. Seeing as for the most part I've been entrenched in said RPs. *giggles*

Awwww, it's nice to meet you too. And Hermione's a black domestic longhair. Which yes, I do find just the slightest bit amusing.

Well that depends on you, really. First step would be to get involved in the Hogwarts RP, but after that it's like getting on any sports team. You try out, and the captain evaluates your skills and decides if you should be part of the team. And it repeats every term.

This isn't exactly the place for this question (I'd imagine you could find the answer in the Questions and Answers thread, actually), but I'll be nice and answer it anyway.
You get sorted by filling out a questionnaire that should appear soon, as the current Hogwarts term is nearing an end and therefore the sorting should reopen once that occurs. Dates for every Sorting are posted on the home page, but yeah, just keep an eye out and it'll be time again.

Nice to know there are people who can relate. And I agree with Black Friday, although I've only suffered through that for three years now. Although that's not anywhere near what I want to do. That would be costume design, but it's hard getting into that.
And there isn't really a "shift time" for moderators. It's more of a case of we do things whenever we have a chance to get online. Also, I'm usually online fairly late at night, as well as on days off and whenever else I get a chance. Which changes every week, depending on my schedule at work.

Hi.
My opinion on Pottermore... Well, I think it's awesome, and is definitely going to keep the HP world alive now that the movies are done. And the answer to the other half of your question is up above, in my response to MagicRune.

it's nice to meet you as well, and I hope you find the time to learn knitting. It can be a calming hobby, as long as you can stick with it. (personally, I have a bit of a problem with patience, explaining why the last scarf I was working on has been forgotten for years now. )
Just like everything else, the RP "commitment" is whenever you can find time to participate. Especially when you're just starting out, nobody really expects you to be there all the time. You just participate when you can.

Why yes, you can be a Quidditch player. A captain needs a team after all.
And to answer your other question, prefects are expected to follow the rules of the school/the school RP (mostly) and make sure people that aren't are noticed/get caught. Pretty much like they would act if they truly were prefects at Hogwarts. Plus, recently it's begun that the prefects organize a little event during the RP term for everyone. And Quidditch captains hold practices, set the rosters for matches, and coordinate with the Quidditch official (Kay, aka demented_death_eater) before and during matches. And sometimes they can hold minor prefect-like duties, as they are expected to uphold the rules in the school RP as well.

I also like art and have tried to draw and paint, but I am not really good at it. However, I keep trying and my children are much better artist. I like to draw, I just wish it would look more like the model or image I am trying to portray. Any suggestions?
Greetings Silver Tiger.
I'm glad to see there are other adults on this site. Don't beat yourself up about your muggle world job! I like Khol's, its a great store.

Hi And thank you. I guess you could say she's one of them, although to be honest I really like Ginny more.
I like to say that naming my cat Hermione brings multiple of my likes together though: HP, Shakespeare and Greek mythology. But it's mostly HP.

Nice to meet you as well. I hope you're enjoying Snitchseeker.
Well, for the most part I answered this just above, but yes. My favorite characters are probably Hermione, Ginny and, I think, Hagrid. Least favorite? Wow, I really don't know.

Hi Steph~Black And Pottermore is interesting. Seeing as I got embroiled in the mess that is Yahoo taking forever to process the validation emails from that site, regarding two accounts I set up. (So yes, I've been trying to get in.) And ultimately, I decided to utilize one of my other email accounts, so as to actually get in, last night. *nods*
And thank you. It was fitting, anyway, seeing as I got her a week before Deathly Hallows the book was released.

Oh, I feel the same way. And, to be honest? I've ben told that I need to have something in front of myself to really draw anything lifelike. Either way, about the only suggestion I can give you is to keep working at it. That's really the only way a person can get better at something; practice.

And yes, there are actually quite a few, but sometimes we get lost in the mix. And I don't, really, beyond acknowledging it's not really what I want to be doing in life. It truly is a great store, and it's gotten a lot of my money over the past few years. Sometimes I think I have a shopping problem.
