Default Meet Lezleighd

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Howzit!!! *jumps up and down waving*

I'm LezleighD and this month I am excited to be one of your mods here at Platform 9 and 3/4! In real life, my name is Leslie and it's great to meet you! I can't wait to get to know each one of you!

SPOILER!!: Pic of my hubby and I taken at Christmas

I guess now I have to talk about myself for a little bit...let's start with my SS history....

I joined SS in March 2009 and have had a blast being a part of the SS family since then! I have had the opportunity to meet some amazing new friends from across the globe! I currently have the honor to play two amazing characters in the RP. I play Iridesca MacMillan, the Department Head for the Magical Accidents & Catastrophes Department in the Ministry and Professor Gemma Cerulean, the History of Magic Professor at Hogwarts. I also love love love making graphics and I have a graphics shop called Eclectic Beginnings and I help make graphics for the Hogwarts Yearbook.

Now on to my real life....

So let's see....In real life, I'm a technology and graphics design teacher at the high school level. I've been teaching for five years and I love it to death. I also pretty much have no life outside of SS either, because I serve as the Colorguard and Cheerleading Sponsor and the Prom Designer/Sponsor. I love my job and my students!

I graduated with my undergraduate from West Texas A&M University in Business Composite Education in 2005 and then with my Masters in Instructional Design and Technology in 2007. I'm always trying to learn something new on the computer or teach myself something new on here.

I'm also lucky to have an amazing family. I am happily married since Aug 2008 and we are so excited to be welcoming our first addition to our family, Wyatt Lance, in October of this year! (I'm working on his Harry Potter nursery right now...will post pics when it's done.) We also have two dogs, Toby and MayBee, and three cats, Blackie, LJ, and Fattie.

Here's a link to my FlickR pics albums if you wanna see pics of everything:
FlickR Pics Galore
(There's even pics of the Wizarding World, too!!!)

Other things...I love Britney Spears and reading...ooo...and CONCEEEERTS!!!!

Well I don't wanna share too much because then you don't have any questions to ask.... So go ahead and shoot a question or two my way. Just remember that all SS rules apply. Have fun!

P.S.-This means that now you start asking questions.... Remember that your post should have a question in it to get to know LezleighD.

haha..yes I feel like that a lot dealing with Prom. At our school, my Junior Officers have always been in charge of prom and the past two years we've run into the problem of the kids just wanting the title of Junior Class Officer but they don't wanna do the work, so we end up doing most of the work. That's probably one of the most frustrating. The other is that so many students wait to buy tickets until the last minute and then they don't have all of the paperwork they need...it just drives me nutty...

But really I love love love Prom. I think I would give up all my other sponsoring duties at school before I gave up Prom. I love planning events and would love to own my own Wedding and Event Planning business...well, someday...so right now Prom takes care of it.

What was ya'lls theme this year? We did A Walk Through Wonderland kind of like Alice in Wonderland. It was a blast...
Oh yes I know all about the last minute shoppers. There was this one time that a mother brought in (what she thought was) the prom contract(saying that they can't skip school the day before) at the actual prom. I told her that it was supposed to be handed in a week ago and blah blah blah but then I looked closer and it was an after prom party contract. I knew about the party and the contract was pretty much saying that they were gonna call the cops about 40 mins after everyone walked in the door because they didn't have enough booze and they didn't want anyone to sue them. It was crazy.

Our theme this year was Cirque du Soleil. It was so cool. We had people swining from the ceiling(trapeze artists not students ) and live performers.

haha...I understand completely...we always have that issue...it's ridiculous and then they get mad at you like it's your fault that they waited until the last minute even when you've been doing tickets for three weeks...haha...good to know it's not just here..

I love love love love that theme...that's what we were thinking about for next year...like a Cique du Soleill or Circus/Carnival theme...I think it would be awesome decorations!!!

In three years get to be head of the prom committee (I'm the only one in my grade who's on it) and I'm planning a night in New York. I'm going to have buffet stations all around the room as if they were the spots in New York. Have Central Park be a hotdog stand and put put station. Little italy with Italian food and cute little houses. Broadway with a montage of all the greatest broadway shows(silent of course so you can hear the music). Times Square is gonna be party central with the picture of Times Square behind the DJ and the dancefloor right in front of it. I'm so super excited

O WOW!!! I love that idea!! Very creative! That's the way prom should be...it needs to be something that is unforgettable and different from anything else they've been to. I just love that Idea...I may have to steal it someday...

Howzit!!!!

I used to visit Mugglenet for all of my HP news and realized that a lot of the stories linked to SS..so I started visiting SS for the news and then one day I started exploring past the front page and I knew I had to join. I originally joined to open my own graphic's shop and to play the games and then I jumped in head first and tried to do everything else!

Now I'm soooo proud to be an SS family member!!!

Well I have to admit that I'm a late bloomer. I had a friend in college that just knew that I was going to love Harry Potter but I was stubborn and would never watch the movies. One night I was sick and my now husband and my friend plotted against me and had rented the first three movies and we had a movie marathon...well it was more my best friend and me, but it was the thought that counted from my now hubby. After watching those three movies, I was hooked and I literally the next day, still sick, went and bought the first three books and had them read in three days and the rest is history.

I guess my fave RPG would be Hogwarts here. I love how involved everyone gets and the plots are just always so brilliant to see unfold. Plus I love being able to attend (when I was a student) and now to teach the lessons. I think we are so lucky to have SS to be involved in!!!

O you are very very very welcome!

Well I have to admit that I've never had to teach student younger than 8th grade. I know I love teaching my high schoolers because most of them are well behaved and can handle being challenged and pushed to their limits. I'm not really sure if I would be cut out to teach much younger than that. I don't really have the patience to deal with a whole room of younger students. I love kids and babysitting and such but I just don't know about having a whole classroom full of them.

Hi!
*pops into the thread*
Can I just say that your little summary of yourself in the first post was so adorable! Oh my goodness, I was like... "A HARRY POTTER NURSERY!?"
Soooo I just had to pop in and ask some question or another!

*drumroll*
Question!: I've noticed that your model for Professor Cerulean is Jessica Biel! How did you decide upon using her for that character/what drew you towards that actress to be the face of your beloved character?

Leslie! Haii.

First off, you're having a baby?! That's a really cute name for him. Aaaand I squealed when I read your plan for the nursery, and how you've been reading to him and playing music and stuff. You sound like how I want to be when I have a kid! xD

Okay so... question. Hmm. *thinks* Oh, I got one. Or two.

1. Do you miss Satine? 'Cause I do. Even though I love Professor Cerulean, of course.
2. Do you like being a professor on SS? And would you teach another class if you could, or do you LOVE HoM?

HOWZIT!!!

My favorite part about teaching is making connections that last a lifetime. I have the opportunity to really touch some of the students' lives and get to know them a little bit better through colorguard and cheerleading and such. And it's so amazing to watch them mature and grow from their Freshmen year to Graduation and then to see them grow up in college and such.

HEY FRIEND!!!

Thank you for sneaking over and saying hello!!!!!! Yes I've been working on it today...it's a lot more work than I expected!

1. Yes yes yes...I miss my purple princess sooooo very much!!! I have to stop myself from making everything in Gemma's office purple, but I try to sneak it in everyone once and a while. Plus I miss Satine and her spontaneous, zanny personality. I never really knew what kind of thought was going to pop into her mind. It's def different playing someone who's supposed to be older and more mature...

2. I love love love being a professor, but I do miss being a student as well. I'm not sure which I like better. Being a professor is different because not as many peeps come and see you and you don't make the same type of connections with everyone...just different. But the teaching part is just brilliant!!! I love making the lessons kind of different and crazy. I love HOM to death, but I think I would be willing to teach....ummmm...Astronomy or Arithmancy....or Muggle Studies...but I'm thinking HOM is for Gemma.

HEY THERE CUTES!!!

Well I'm happy that you popped over and said hello! hahaha...thanks for the compliment...I'm not really good about talking about myself so I tried not to make it too boring, because in real life I'm pretty sure I am...

On to your question:

Well, I've always loved Jessica Biel...there's just something sweet and mysterious about her. I also wanted to have a character that wasn't on the Charrie List so that I wasn't cloning someone or using a model that would remind peeps of someone else and luckily JB wasn't on the list...so EUREKA!!...she was absolutely perfect! I also wanted someone young and spunky that looked like a caring person that the students might feel like they could approach easily. And plus she's a hottie...

O I am sooo excited about the final movie. I've had my tickets for over two months for the midnight showing. I'm actually coming back a day early from teaching a guard/dance camp just so I can go to the midnight showing. I think it's great that the franchise has been this successful and has been able to make it all the way to the end and over such a short period. It's bittersweet being at the end, but I know it will be well worth it. I can't wait to see what they've put in the movie from the book and to be surprised by the new scenes not in the book.

I'm thinking I might even dress up for this show...I'm thinking a preggo Nymphadora Tonks...haha...

O wow...that's a hard question...I've had to think about this one all day...I'm going to add scenes I know are going to be in the new movie as well...So here goes....

SPOILER!!: My top ten list...spoilers included...not really in any order...just a list of ten... =0
]
1. Nymphadora Tonks dying...I wasn't happy about it in the book and I know I'm going to cry like a baby in the movie...I already cry in the preview when they show her reaching for Lupin.
2. Molly defending Ginny...I'm not a Ginny fan, but I'm so happy that Molly stands up for her and stands her ground for her family.
3. The Order of the Phoenix Final Battle...My girl Nymphadora kicked some bootah!!
4. Harry meeting Hagrid for the First Time...It was just like I had imagined it and more.
5. The Amortentia Scene in Half Blood Prince...I loved Hermione's hair...just priceless.
6. The Giant Wizard Chess Scene...I actually learned how to play chess after that...I would love Wizarding World to create something like that.
7. Diagon Alley...Anytime we visit Diagon Alley I just love all of the little details everywhere!
8. Durmstrong and Beuxbaton visitors in Goblet of Fire...I have dreams about the student's grand entrance.
9. Dobby Dying...not my favorite scene but they did a great job on it!
10. Quidditch.....All of the Quidditch games have been just amazing...from a computer teacher point of view...they were just brilliant...
