| | |  Quidditch Pitch
 If you follow a winding path from the Training Grounds, eventually you will arrive at the Quidditch pitch. The oval structure itself is a rather remarkable sight to see as it stands at five hundred feet long and a hundred and eighty feed wide. Because of the popularity of the sport, the pitch is used quite regularly. Here tryouts are held, in addition to scheduled team practices and a number of inter-House matches throughout the term. When the pitch isn't booked, it is available for general use from anyone who wants to casually fly around or play various broom games.
The maintenance on the pitch is of utmost importance. The three silver goalposts at each end of the pitch are regularly polished so they shine brightly in the sunlight, and the white markings outlining the exterior of the pitch as well as the middle are regularly painted. During the fall, spring, and summer months, a lawn mower has been charmed to cut the grass of the pitch mid-morning every three days just after the dew has dried. When it is winter, the mower is set aside and a magical snow blower is used to clear up as much of the pitch as possible. To keep the pitch in prime condition, all are asked to do their part as well by not littering or vandalizing it in any way; otherwise there will be consequences to face.
Anyone who wishes to use the Quidditch pitch is allowed do so, but it is expected that all rules regarding it are adhered to at all times and the curfew listed is followed. These rules can be found posted on the noticeboard at the entrance of the pitch.

Having ensured the pitch would be free during this time, Zephyr stepped onto the field, broom in hand, the grass crunching softly under his feet. No snow yet, fortunately, though the sky looked like it was ready to drop some any minute. The temperatures were getting colder every day, but chilly weather never stopped him. It didn't stop a Quidditch match, so it didn't hinder him from training either, whether he was alone or practicing with his team.
Today, however, he was neither.
Alone right now, yes, but he had no doubts Calliope would show any moment. A little friendly training session/competition. They might not be on the same team or even play the same position, but there was still something worthwhile in training with an opponent. And she was definitely a worthy competitor.
He set his broom down gently and stretched his muscles while he waited. The jog down to the pitch had already warmed him up some, so it was just a matter of a few more to ready himself.

Calliope had absolutely not sprinted the last stretch of grounds because she was running late. The fact that her cheeks carried the faintest hint of color from exertion and that a few rebellious strands had escaped the thick braid down her back was entirely unrelated.
Besides, she wasn't late.
The brunette strode through the pitch entrance with her broom balanced across one shoulder, boots crunching over the frost-kissed grass as her gaze immediately landed on the lone figure already stretching near the center of the field. She wasn't sure why he had asked her specifically to meet at the pitch for some training ― besides the obvious ― but she never ever backed down from a challenge. Even if maybe this was just about racing around on brooms for a bit, a chaser would be hard pressed to find someone better to push them to get faster than a seeker.
"You know," she called as she approached, voice carrying easily across the quiet pitch, "most people wait until their training partner arrives before they start trying to make them look bad." A grin tugged at the corner of her mouth despite the accusation. "Though, I am having a particularly fantastic hair day today, so you're going to have to work a lot harder."
Calliope dropped her broom carefully onto the grass beside his and immediately began rolling her shoulders loose, trying to disguise the fact that she was taking inventory of him in the same instinctive way she always assessed competitors. Posture. Balance. Energy levels. Whether he looked tired. Whether he looked confident. Annoyingly but also unsurprisingly, the answer to the last one seemed to be yes.
Her eyes flicked briefly toward the grey clouds gathering overhead before returning to him. "So what's the plan, Amstern? Or were you just hoping I'd show up and serenade you?"
Might actually be nice zipping around in some natural snowfall, come to think of it. The cold never bothered her, anyway.
