Greenhouse Five: classroom and student projects

The Greenhouses wasn't a place that Sohrin would have ventured towards had he not been wandering around. But now that he was here, the young Ravenclaw decided to take a look inside Greenhouse Number 1, knowing it would be the safest option. Double, no, triple-checking that he was about to enter the right Greenhouse he took his hand from out of his robe pocket and pushed the door open.

Probably the most dangerous plants in this Greenhouse were the Fanged Geraniums and possibly the Puffapods but he should be fine if he stayed away from them. Herbology hadn't been his most favorable subject but he could still appreciate the beauty of flowers.

Speaking of beautiful flowers, something had piqued the Ravenclaw's interest. He came to a halt, turned his head to examine what he had just seen in his peripheral vision, and then walked towards the source. Standing in front of a bunch of roses that were slowly changing color, the second year paused to admire them.

So pretty!

It was hard to not have a song in his heart and a pep to his step when he was wandering down to his favorite place on the grounds. Drake frequented the greenhouses as often as he had time to - outside of friends, classes and sleeping of course. And yet his enthusiasm and eagerness to be in the presence of the plant life had not dulled, not even a quarter of a bit. It was by far his FAVORITE class, even if Care of Magical Creatures and Ary’s interest in that as well had leant to the subject also climbing his list of interests.

Skipping his way through Greenhouse 1’s door, he paused mid foot to the ground when he saw someone else in there. Not like everyone wasn't allowed, no, but he was simply used to ending up here alone. It didn't take long to realize the form was familiar though and his skipping resumed as he bypassed the trilling tulips (his original target for the morning) and instead stopped by Sohrin and the color changing roses. ”Aren't they beautiful?? I love the moment when they are between color changes and have like a pretty ombre effect between two!” he pointed at one currently in between yellow and pink, demonstrating his point.

The Ravenclaw stood there for a moment, watching the flowers change colors and only looked away from them when he heard the greenhouse door open up again. He leaned back, supporting his hand on a working station to see who had entered.

Seeing a familiar yearmate, Sohrin waved both of his hands to greet him from the other side of the Greenhouse and waited for him to come closer.

He followed where Drake was pointing as a rose had begun to change color and stooped down to take a better look at it. "They are pretty, yes" he agreed as he straightened back up. "My neighbor once showed me how she colored white roses by adding food coloring in the water" he said. "Though it takes a couple of hours before any changes can be seen and i don't think they change back to their original state again" But it was kind of similar, wasn't it?"Do you think they still change color after you picked them?" he wondered.

At Sohrin's greeting, Drake returned it with a single wave of one of his own as he had moved closer. He would have matched the energy of two, but honestly the boy felt certainly if he'd done that AND skipped at the same time he would have landed on either his face or his bum in the dirt. But his smile was bright and hopefully properly showed the excitement he currently felt overall. Also, it was fun to see Sohrin who he had not had a ton of interactions with, but from the moments he had his yearmate seemed really nice and friendly.

At his story of his neighbor, Drake's eyes WIDENED. He hadn't known that was a trick someone could do! "Did the food coloring make the cut rose last longer too?" Wasn't that usually used as a preservative in foods to make them have a longer shelf life? He didn't know much about food and health stuff like that, but he thought he vaguely remembered something like that. If that did make flowers last longer once cut and gifted, wouldn't that be SO cool? "It's interesting the color wouldn't just... seep back down too y'know?" To then make it it's original color again. "Can you only do that on white roses or can you do it on ANY rose?" He was super curious about this idea. Like... if he put blue dye in with a red rose, would it turn into a really pretty dark purple??? It sounded like a fun potential experiement!

And speaking of experiments? "Well.... I don't know. But there are quite a few so I bet we could try!" There were certainly shears available and as long as they pruned it properly, it shouldn't hurt the plant!
