| | | CoMC Lesson One: TBA On this Thursday afternoon in mid March, Professor Paton is waiting in a corridor on the seventh floor. She's standing in front of a large door opposite of the tapestry of Barnabas the Barmy to be exact. This was mentioned on the noticeboard so hopefully all of the students paid close attention to that and didn't end up outside.
Not wanting to give anything at all away too soon, the only other thing the woman has asked was that each student dressed comfortably. Obviously they would be needing their wands as well. That should be a given!
She's rocking lightly on her heels, a warm smile on her face as she waits for everyone to arrive. On the right side of the door is her usual whiteboard but all it says is "Gather around. We will be going inside once everyone is properly ready." What that means, well, go ahead and guess if you like. On the left of the door is a decent sized box but it's unopened with no way to know what's inside. OOC: Hello everyone! Please keep in mind this isn't the students first lesson with Hady, they've had classes all year long. All site and classroom rules should be followed. Even though she has asked all the students to meet outside of the Room of Requirement (directions given for those that don't know where it is!) the lesson will be played out right here. I'll be moving on in about 24-36 hours |

| ~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ Queen of Typos ❄ Magical Mosh Pit ❄ That was a lot of Salamanders they were going to meet today. Charlie was actually looking forward to the adventure also because he was going to be ‘outdoors’. He also had a question before they were off. “Professor, would the chilli powder burn any type of the salamanders? Maybe it won’t hurt the Fire salamanders since they are accustomed to heat but for the Frost salamanders…?”
Charlie selected a lime green pouch and wore it around his waist as instructed. Peeking inside, he saw that indeed it was packed with all the necessities Paton had spoken about. Once his water bottle was filled and the gloves were adjusted magically so that they fit his hands, the Puff was ready to be on the move.
He followed Paton through the Room’s door to find himself staring at an active volcano. Charlie’s first instinct was to get out of there because, you know, lava and ash were dangerous but that little voice in his head reminded him that nothing but a salamander’s fire was going to hurt anyone in here. Glad to be out in the ‘open’, Char headed off, looking for one of the creatures. For a moment, he found himself looking at something moving through the lava. It seemed to be moving upwards while the lava was flowing downwards. Could it be…? Yes, it was!
Would the foods in the pouch help? Char knew that Fire Salamanders fed on flames… what if he just set one of the foods on fire? He tried to coax his salamander friend out of the lava by dangling a dead cricket in front of its face. Would it work? |

Aurora wasn’t stupid by any means but it wasn’t often that the naive second year would be able to answer a question correctly that led to the subject matter of the lesson. It was therefore lucky that she had recently been reading up on magical diseases in creatures and that Scale Rot had been one of them that had stuck in her head. A huge beam befell her face as Professor Paton explained they’d be attempting to cure the Salamanders of their ailments although it was a bit strange that it was something as mundane as Chilli powder that was the solution.
The students were released into the Room of Requirement and off Aurora bounced sticking behind Vera because she felt the need to be attached to other people at all moments and Vera was likely someone who wouldn’t get annoyed by her constant presence as the two got along very well. Also Vera was taller than herself which meant that if the volcano were to randomly erupt she would be safe behind her.
Not that Aurora wanted anyone to get hurt, in fact it was quite the contrary.
The Ravenclaw padded softly across the path watching out for any Salamanders she could see along the route whilst also being careful not to touch any fires. The flames might have been mesmerising but the blonde was smart enough to know that flames were too hot for her delicate little skin. “Here little Sally-Salamanders” she called out as if she was calling over a cat.

| Bathes in Maple Syrup | Dancing Lobster | Mrs. Charlie Weasley | Seneca's Beard | That's So Fetch Now that he had said his piece, Logan intended to actually listen to what everyone else had to say and pay attention to his mum's instructions. The look from one Vera Thantanos did not go unnoticed. For a fleeting second, he had made eye contact with her before fluttering his eyes elsewhere, feigning an attention span that he most certainly did not have with most lessons.
While his mum was giving all of those important details about what they were going to do in the Room, the fourth year was trying to figure out what that look, as well as the movement before, had been all about. Now that it was safe to do so, he was looking at the back of Vera's head as if all the answers and more would just magically appear. The blond, of course, was given nothing to work with. Did ... did she need chocolate? He knew his older sisters were less moody when they had it...
The possibility of chocolate would have to wait, however. Everyone was suddenly on the move, which caused him to immediately break contact with the girl's brown locks. A game of improvisation then began. Oblivious to the set of instructions that had been given, the Gryffindor waited a few moments for a few others to go ahead and get started on whatever they were supposed to be doing. Following their lead, he randomly grabbed a pouch that happened to clash with his crimson shirt and fastened it around the waistband of his black joggers. He too looked inside the pouch and took note of the different food, chilli powder, and a pair of gloves.
Seeing others putting on the gloves and filling up a bottle of water, he did the same. So far so good. Logan considered himself lucky at this point. The pair of gloves was quickly slipped over his hands, and he unscrewed the top of the bottle and gave his wand a wave. As the bottle started filling with water, he wondered if talking to Sable would help with the Vera situation, whatever that situation happened to be. His blue eyes then started looking around to see what the brown-haired Gryffindor was up to, which resulted in his bottle overflowing and water splattering on his shoes and the floor. A moment of panic grew on the boy's face before he stopped the flow of water and acted like nothing had happened. If anyone asked, one of the first years spilled...
Now that the door of the Room of Requirement was open, there really was no reason or him to be lingering about by a puddle of water on the floor, was there? The boy wasted not a single second to dart inside. A wave of heat instantly hit him, but he pressed on through the volcanic environment, which he thought was absolutely wicked. Assuming they were to be looking for a salamander and caring for it (because -- duh! -- Care of Magical Creatures), his intuition lead him up the path quite a bit until he found a decent stream that was sure to have some firey critters lurking within. Taking a few paces off the path, Logan dug into his pouch for a salamander snack and peered into the lava. Seeing one swimming about, he gave the food in his hand a wiggle to coax the salamander out.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Sydney M. L. Masters Slytherin Fifth Year Hogwarts RPG Name: Maddox B. Buchanan Gryffindor Sixth Year | Rhibear ~ Madam Solo ~ Dark Brooding Girl ~ Accio Jedi ~ Gryffinclaw ~ Just a doll Desiree had a feeling her answer was correct, but she was nonetheless pleased to hear the professor say it was. So they’d talked about frost salamanders, fire salamanders, and now Amazonian and Peruvian salamanders. Desiree wasn’t surprised to hear that those were the three creatures they’d find in the Room of Requirement, though the mention of scale rot got a confused blink. That sounded gross… and sad. Poor salamanders!
Desiree listened carefully to the instructions. She didn’t have to be warned; she wasn’t dumb enough to stick her hand in a salamander’s fire! Still, it was probably a good idea to cast a flame-freezing charm on herself, just in case something unexpected happened. She cast the spell, producing a white light, and when she was done, she cast Impervius on her hair and clothes. That spell was a must-have for any wet climate - because the drowned rat look was not stylish!
Protective spells in place, Desiree retrieved a pouch and fastened it around her waist. She removed the water bottle, opened it, and cast a quick, “Aguamenti.” Screwing the lid back on, she replaced the bottle. Awfully kind of Professor Paton to think of them getting thirsty! As soon as she pulled on her gloves, she was good to go!
She followed the group into the Room, her bright blue eyes scanning the volcanic landscape for salamanders. Spotting a flash of something scarlet out of the corner of her eye, she turned around to see a salamander. “Hello there,” she whispered, reaching into her pouch for a salamander treat. “Are you hungry?”

If the answers had shown up on the back of her head, she might have implored him to share them with her. Because they certainly didn't seem to be on the inside either. Or... if they were, she didn't particularly like the answer or her level of petty so she'd rather it be something else to her. As for chocolate? She always wanted chocolate. She was essentially Willy Wonka's daughter. (Not really, but they both worked in candy so close enough.) But as far as NEED? It wasn't necessarily a NEED.
Walking the pathway, Vera could feel a presence right behind her and turned her head to see who it was, before giving a warm smile at the sight of Aurora. The second year was correct - Vera wasn't annoyed in the slightest. In fact, she was also a social being who preferred to work in pairings so even if they hadn't been necessarily told to partner ... that didn't mean she and Aurora couldn't work alongside each other. She stepped a little more to one side of the path to give the Ravenclaw more space, while also taking interest in the question she could hear Charlie asking. That was a good one... chili powder could hurt HER depending on where she got it, did the scales just leave all of the salamanders protected? Or maybe the point was the burn was the good thing. Kind of like how humans burned off warts. Even if they technically used ice to do that. She kept one ear open for the answer, while spotting a section off the path from the others that she could have sworn she'd seen movement from. Following Charlie, Logan and Desiree's example, she crouched down near the side of the path, digging into her pouch to pull out a salamander snack as well, before placing it on the ground in front of her - within reach, but just barely, letting the salamander have some semblance of privacy or escape so perhaps it'd feel more comfortable coming closer.
It was immediate, but as she stared at the spot slowly she could it moving further from it's hiding spot, inching towards her with one eye on the brunette at all costs as it took steps closer... and closer. Vera couldn't help the grin, mainly because it was so cute but also nice to see it working. She very slowly reaching into her pack, grabbing another snack and tentatively moving it to set it more to the half way point between herself and the other. The salamander paused in it's movements, but once her hand pulled back leaving a second snack in it's wake, it seemed a little less leery. Which was good, because she could see a little bit of scale rot on it's back. While it devoured it's treats, she once more reached sloooowly into her pack, this time pulling out the chili powder along with a third treat. She set down the third treat nearly directly in front of her, getting out a pinch of chili powder.
Once the salamander had moved to the one directly in front of her, she carefully reached out with a gloved finger she had rubbed the chili powder on so she could brush it over the scales. And just HOPE the little guy didn't run off before she could fully finish helping him.

| ~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ Queen of Typos ❄ Magical Mosh Pit ❄ It did work!
The salamander crawled out of the lava with eyes fixated on the cricket. But it didn’t eat the dead insect. Wanting to test his theory about setting the cricket on fire, he set the dead thing down on a rock. Char eyed his salamander friend who had moved close to the rock as well but still making no attempts to consume the food.
The Puff boy made up his mind in that second. With a mutter of ‘Incendio’ and the appropriate wand movement, the cricket was set ablaze. Remaining in his crouched position {which had been taken up from the moment the cricket had been set on the rock}, he absorbed the happenings.
The salamander took a step or two closer, stuck its tongue out and scooped up the cricket before it could be burnt to a crispy critter. Feeding on flames it was doing! |

| Otter This World ♡ Catpurrccino ♡ Slotherin ♡ Pandamonium Professor Paton may have taken a quick mental note on who did and didn’t cast any charms upon themselves before entering the room. This was mainly for her own knowledge. It was nice to see how some of the younger years tended to follow suit when any older year did something first. This reminded her of her own years back at Hogwarts and how much she looked up to those older than herself as well as a lot of her friends. She did notice how everyone had checked their pouches to find everything she had mentioned inside, all water bottles were filled and gloves had been put on. So far, so good.
There was a question. A very very good one at that! It was also part of the reason why she was taking them through different areas to work with each type of Salamander and not introducing them all at once. "That's a brilliant question, Mister Bergstrad. The chili powder will not harm the fire salamanders or the Peruvian or Amazonian salamanders. It won't necessarily harm our frostie friends either BUT when applying it you must be very quick, and very efficient as they won't tolerate it nearly as well as the others. It's also a must that they be immediately placed into the snow pile from which they were born." Which was not always as easy as it sounded. "Therefore today we won't be using chili powder on them at all, we'll be using dry ice which I will give out when we reach their area." In all the times she had worked with frost salamanders she felt this method worked better anyhow. She would explain more in a bit.
Once inside, Hady hung back a little bit in order to watch her students tend to the task they had been given. It was always nice to see how each of them had their own method of doing things, from chatting quietly to the salamanders to trying to coax them out of their spots with the snacks. Even seeing how some snacks were set ablaze. It was all wonderful work on each student's part. As long as no one had more questions or needed her help, she was content in silently moving around the area (carefully too). Warm smiles were given to those that had already managed to get the salamanders to eat. "If you can't get them to eat right away, try something else. Think like a salamander. What would you like if you were one of them?"
Time was passing them by and Hady called their attention. "It's time to move along. As we follow the path our terrain is going to change as well as our surroundings. So follow me please as we enter the rainforest." This was where they would come upon lots of trees, some fallen, and lots of bush and vines and plants. "Just like you all did with the Fire salamanders, you'll be doing the same with the Amazonian and Peruvian ones. The ground might be damp in some areas and it may begin to rain. One can never be too sure in the rainforest." It would be warm and humid though.
"Once we are all finished there we will move on to our last spot of our hike. There we will make our way into freezing snowy terrains. So warming charms on yourself might be very helpful when we move on. Please do not use chili powder on our frost salamanders. We'll be using dry ice which is already prepared for use and I'll be giving that out to you all." She had it inside her own pouch in very special containers. "Keep your gloves on while using it and please don't touch it to any part of yourselves or anyone else." She did not want anyone getting hurt. When they arrive there will be notice how cold it was and it was nothing but white snow everywhere. Little snow piles and snowy tunnels and large frozen ice rocks and little 'frozen ponds' was what they would find.
"If you happen to come across a salamander that is sick, see if you can treat them. We never know what we might find." There could be little broken legs, missing tails, weepy eyes from being ill. They could even have cuts from fighting other salamanders!
And they were off to the next area of their hike! OOC: Hello again everyone! I'm so sorry for my slowness, things in RL went a little haywire on me the last few days lol… This is why I'm moving us along with Hady's post. So all areas of the hike are now known and the students can move along. Post as much as you like or all in one post! The salamanders are yours to post for and decide what needs to be done for them!

| ~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ Queen of Typos ❄ Magical Mosh Pit ❄ Charlie had looked over his first salamander friend and decided it had no traces of scale rot or any form of physical injury. “I give you a clean bill of health,’’ he told the creature and watched it scuttle off back into the lava flow. Perfect timing on that part too since the lesson was moving on into a rainforest.
Just look at all the trees, shrubs and everything else! Charlie was in awe, quite forgetting that he wasn’t actually out in Guyana, Brasil, Columbia or one of the other nations through which the Amazon Rainforest passed through. Perhaps the only thing he did not enjoy was the humidity. This discomfort was pushed aside so that the search could begin for the salamanders native to this environment.
Deciding to stalk the trees, Char focused his attention on those. You know what stuck out against all that green? The stark purple skin of the Peruvian salamander. However, he was horrified to also come across his very first case of scale rot. The flakey scales were not hard to miss as well as part of the salamander where the scales had completely fallen off.
The poor little creature. “Hey, friend.” Charlie approached the low branch on which the salamander was perched. The salamander watched him blankly; it was probably too miserable to care. “We’ll have you patched up in no time. Just hold still, okay?” Taking some chilli powder from the pouch {yes, the gloves were still on}, the Puff applied it carefully, glad that this salamander was a fire one; Paton’s words about chilli powder and frost salamanders still rang clear in his head. In no time, Charlie was done applying the powder {thankfully the salamander hadn't ran away}. “You’ll be fine now, just you wait.’’ Hang in there, buddy! |

This was turning out to be very interesting lesson. She had learnt so much.
She listened to the professor as she urged them to move along. She nodded 'Yes prof. '
As she moved along, she noticed the terrain change. This really was amazing. She was on the lookout for any sick salamanders that she could treat.

| ~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ Queen of Typos ❄ Magical Mosh Pit ❄ Charlie, not wanting to abandon this little guy, chose to spend the remainder of his time in the ‘rainforest’ looking over the salamander. To his pleasant surprise, he saw that the creature was beginning to move about more and wiggling its tail a little. The chilli powder seemed to be working already! The realisation made him made him happy. But then, all too soon in his opinion, they had to move on. So, he said bye to the salamander {even though it wasn’t real} and followed Paton to the next stop.
With Heating Charms on his clothing, knowledge about not using chilli powder on these salamanders and his gloves still in place, ploughed into the snow. The Puff boy was already checking the place out for the blue salamanders, which he thought would be easy to locate given their blue skin colour.
Sure enough, a minute into his arrival, Char managed to find one basking quite calmly in the snow. Or was it dead? For it was quite still as a statue. Char froze as well, his eyes fixed on the salamander as he tried to figure out if it was happy and healthy. |

| Otter This World ♡ Catpurrccino ♡ Slotherin ♡ Pandamonium As they moved from one terrain to the next and then finally to the last, Hadleigh kept an eye on her students as much as she did anything else. Their safety and well-being was important also, and she wouldn't risk anyone getting hurt. Everyone's safety and comfort was always top priority, all the salamanders included. "If anyone has any questions about anything or needs any assistance in tending to any of the salamanders, please don't hesitate to ask me," she loved seeing them all work things out for themselves but there was no shame in asking for help where it was needed. This was how they learned after all. Sadly they didn't have all day to spend here in the Room of Requirement and soon they would have to be calling it a day. A quick glance at the watch on her wrist told her they only have about another fifteen minutes or so left for the lesson. "You all have fifteen minutes left to continue taking care of and feeding any salamanders that you find." This should be more than enough time to complete the task they were currently working on. Then they would all need to be on their way to their next lessons or whatever they had to do. OOC: Our lesson is nearly over! There's fifteen minutes left (less than 24 hours) for the students to finish working with the Salamanders before the lesson will be over! Hady will be calling close to the lesson at that point.. though I'll leave the thread open for anyone that wants to finish up

Hogwarts RPG Name: Sydney M. L. Masters Slytherin Fifth Year Hogwarts RPG Name: Maddox B. Buchanan Gryffindor Sixth Year | (Fire & Amazon) Excuse her while she gives every salamander a Disney name! xD Rhibear ~ Madam Solo ~ Dark Brooding Girl ~ Accio Jedi ~ Gryffinclaw ~ Just a doll Desiree watched the fire salamander. Was he going to eat? The little creature blinked, tilting his head to one side, but didn’t take the treat she offered. What else could she do? She bent down so she wouldn’t appear quite so big and scary to the little guy, and an idea suddenly occurred to her. “Maybe you’d like it better en flambé?” WIth a flick of her wand, she set fire to the treat, and when the flames died, she held it out. The salamander sniffed the treat for a second before munching happily.
Desiree waited until the salamander had finished his snack to try touching him. She gave him a gentle pet on the head, allowing him to crawl up her arm as she checked him over. There were no signs of injuries as far as she could see, but she noticed the telltale dull, flaky scales on his tail. Scale rot. “Let’s see what we can do about that tail.” She reached into her pouch for the chili powder and gently applied it to the little creature’s tail. “Feeling better?” The salamander responded by making happy noises. Aww, so cute!
The cute little fire salamander needed a name, and Desiree had the perfect one! “I’ll call you Hades, okay?” she said, thinking of a certain Disney villain associated with flames. Cue more happy salamander noises. Desiree let Hades ride on her shoulder as she explored the fire habitat in search of the salamanders’ flames. Spotting one that looked a little low, she drew her wand and cast a nonverbal Incendio.
As much as Desiree would love to spend more time with Hades, she had two more habitats to explore. So she gently set the fire salamander down beside his fire and made her way to the rainforest habitat. She was not looking forward to this one! Despite her preparations, she didn’t want to get caught in a sudden downpour. She roamed the area, searching for salamanders, until the inevitable rain started. Figures, she thought, ducking under the nearest tree for shelter.
As she did so, she saw that she wasn’t alone. She recognized the purple color of a Peruvian salamander hiding under a leaf beside her. “You didn’t want to be caught in the rain either?” she said. She offered the purple salamander a snack. It eyed it hungrily but made no effort to grab it, and Desiree soon saw why. Poor thing had a broken leg! She gave the little creature its treat, trying to think of a way to treat the leg as it ate. Okay, think, Des! She told herself. If you’re going to be a healer, you’ll have to deal with stuff like this all the time…
An idea occurred to her. How about ferula? That spell bandaged and splinted wounds, but did it work on salamanders? It was worth a try, she supposed. If she couldn’t heal it herself, she could always ask Professor Paton for help. “Hold still. This won’t hurt,” she whispered, petting the creature before drawing her wand. “Ferula,” she cast, and a tiny bandage appeared around the salamander’s injured leg. “How’s that feeling?” The salamander inched along the branch where it sat, still moving slowly, but at least it was moving. “You get another treat for being such a good patient,” Desiree said, pulling another snack out of her pouch. “Now you need a name… How about Pepa?” Another Disney name after a character associated with rain clouds. Pepa the salamander made a happy noise, nudging Desiree’s hand as if to ask for more pets, and Desiree obliged.
As the rain cleared up, Desiree wondered if she’d see an Amazonian salamander too. She didn’t have far to look! As she moved out from under the tree, she noticed what she thought was a leaf move. The Amazonian salamander’s green color reminded her of another Disney character… one with green eyes and a green ruana who, like this salamander, hid in plain sight. “Hello… Bruno. What do you think of that name?”
The newly christened salamander blinked, making a little noise, and Desiree gave him a little pat on the head as she reached into her pouch. “I know what you need!” She offered him a treat, which he gobbled happily. While Bruno was eating, she checked him for injuries. There were no signs of scale rot or broken legs, but he did have a couple of cuts. “Good boy. Hold still…” she said. She aimed her wand and cast Episkey on the cuts. “All better?”

| ~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ Queen of Typos ❄ Magical Mosh Pit ❄ It turned out the Frost Salamander was actually not dead. “What a relief,’’ Charlie murmured, watching the creature flex its tail lazily. Just like that, it hit him: the salamander was having a bit of rest and relaxation! A lazy day or whatever you wanted to call it. And you know what? He suddenly wanted to go join it. He looked around at the rest of the class, shot Paton a look then made up his mind in a split second.
Charlie went and flopped right down on his back beside the salamander. Luckily for him it didn’t scatter and instead remained stationary, still flicking its tail. “I feel you, little guy. I feel you. We’ll just chill out here together. I think this is a form of you taking care of yourself, and I’m helping you with that. Professor Paton can’t possibly have anything against my reasoning for lying here.” No, she couldn’t. Speaking of her…
Charlie listened to her voice floating over to him. Fifteen minutes? That was more than enough for him to to be at ease with the salamander. |

| Catching up. All in one Napoleon of Crime - Gryffinclaw - ❄ Lunar Library Lurker ❄ - Owl Emissary - Pirate Auror They would be working with all the variations of salamanders today…nice! That certainly explained the use of the enchanted location, Professor/Aunt Hady explaining to them just what they would be doing for the course of the lesson. Hiking through the various terrains each salamander was known to inhabit, bringing the creatures to the students while keeping them nice and comfy in almost-natural surroundings. It really was the best way, other than going on location, to study creatures.
When directed to do so, Nadia retrieved a green-shaded pouch of her own and secured it around her waist just loose enough to not have it impede her movement. Food and chili powder for their charges…check. Protective gloves and bottle for water for her…check check. Poor little guys dealing with scale rot. She certainly knew what that was from growing up on a dragon reserve. No matter how hard you tried to prevent it, and believe you me her Papa did a lot, there was always the chance one or more dragons would get it at some point. “Aquamenti,” she cast into her bottle, filling it and replacing the cover securely. The second year cast the spell to protect her clothing just as the professor mentioned it almost out of habit, slipping on her gloves once she was done. And then they were going inside, the heat of the first environment felt after the first few steps into the manufactured environment. But their surroundings were one thing…the fire salamanders were another and Nadia moved in one direction in search of any that might need help. Or just attention. “Hey little guy…” she greeted as her movements attracted a reaction from one. She had paused in her steps to move a touch slower so as not to frighten. Nadia reached into the pouch to find the appropriate food to attract further and show she was a friend, smiling as the result was definitely to her liking. “There you are….are you okay?” she asked rhetorically as she slipped closer, her eyes looking for the scale rot before she chanced touching the creature to exam him further. Thankfully he seemed free from the illness which was a relief even if they did have the means to treat it.
Eventually they were moving along and Nadia left her new friend as she moved on with her classmates to the rainforest environment no doubt the home of their Peruvian and Amazonian buddies. She made a couple of new friends, one unfortunately needing a good rub with the chili powder in her pouch but the Gryffindor was satisfied with her work helping her out. The other had simply got her close examination with eyes and gentle hands and was lucky not to have anything wrong with it, especially after she had thought at first there might have been weepy eyes. Nope, just a little sweat.
It was hot in here after all.
Until they moved into the last environment, home of the frost salamanders. Nadia listened intently to Professor Paton’s instructions and words of wisdom surrounding the latest creatures under their care. Got it…no chili powder. Made sense given chili was more a HOT thing than a cold one. Instead, they got dry ice which the Gryffindor was sure to be careful with. Yep, no harming herself or others. She might be curious and like adventure but if there was anything her parents and aunt drilled into her, it was to be careful around creatures and there were times not to play around. The girl shivered a little as the cold became more noticeable, casting the warming spell just to be a little more comfortable, but not too strong since she didn’t want her temperature to affect her interaction with the frost salamanders.
Like with the one she came across in the white show, the blueish creature doing quite well in almost blending perfectly in. “Why hello,” she greeted it with a smile, tentatively holding out a hand that she gradually moved closer. The creature started to play around , shuffling and twisting in the powder causing Nadia to giggle. “Playful one there…does that mean you are okay?” she asked, taking the chance to look her newest creature companion over. No rot…no cuts. It seemed okay. Touching lightly along the tail, it appeared secure and well. Satisfied, she took out some food, the frost salamander stopping its playing to take the offering with its own happiness.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Sydney M. L. Masters Slytherin Fifth Year Hogwarts RPG Name: Maddox B. Buchanan Gryffindor Sixth Year | Going for it since the thread's still open ^_^ Rhibear ~ Madam Solo ~ Dark Brooding Girl ~ Accio Jedi ~ Gryffinclaw ~ Just a doll Desiree stayed with Pepa and Bruno, the Peruvian and Amazonian salamanders respectively, for a bit longer to make sure Bruno’s cuts were healing and Pepa was moving around alright with that leg. Satisfied that the two were on the mend, she gave them each a goodbye pet and made her way to the final environment: the icy climate.
This was the one Desiree was most excited to see, and it did not disappoint! She glanced around the area, marveling at the snow-covered landscape. Ooh, so pretty! As she looked around, she noticed a pretty blue first salamander sitting on a snowy rock with a dignified air, as if it were on a throne. Desiree giggled softly. “Hello, your majesty,” she said with a princessy curtesy. There was only one name she could give such a queenly frost salamander. “I’ll name you Elsa, okay?” The salamander blinked, moving her head as if to give a nod. “Would you like something to eat?” Desiree reached into her pouch for another treat, and a thought occurred to her. If Hades liked his treats burnt, maybe Elsa would like hers frozen. She cast a nonverbal Glacius, setting the icy treat on the rock in front of Elsa. As she watched the little blue creature daintily nibbling her snack, she noticed two things. One was a few flaky scales on Elsa’s tail, signs of a minor case of scale rot. The other was that her snow drift looked a bit low.
Desiree just thought of something. What if she turned that snow drift into an ice castle? Every snow queen needed one of those! She knelt, carefully adding snow and ice to the drift until she’d built walls, windows, a door, and a tower. When she was finished, she conjured a few ice flowers to decorate the outside. “Do you like it?” she asked, looking back at Elsa with a smile.
The little blue salamander blinked, crawling down from her rock. She cautiously stepped into her new ice castle and promptly curled up inside. Desiree would take that as a yes! “Wait there, and I’ll get you some dry ice for your tail,” she said, getting up to find Professor Paton.

| Otter This World ♡ Catpurrccino ♡ Slotherin ♡ Pandamonium Hady's heart nearly exploded with joy as she walked around and observed the students tending to the Salamanders. It made her beyond happy to see that not only were they all following her instructions on feeding and helping the salamanders but that they all were learning for themselves on what worked or didn't work. Each student appeared to have their own way of going about the assignment and this is what she loved to see.
Some were sticking very closely to what they had been told to do, simply feeding and healing the salamanders. While others were laying in the snow and relaxing with the frost salamanders. She even heard a few being 'named' after Disney characters! And while some amazing questions had been asked this after, no one had asked for her assistance. They were all managing on their own! This professor was so proud.
Time kept ticking along however and all too soon their fifteen minutes were up. "I'm sad to say that our time is up for today, everyone. If you are currently tending to a salamander please finish up with that and say your 'byes' to them all if you choose to do so. Our friends from today will be carefully transported into the Reptile Room if anyone would like to pay them a visit at a later time." Each variety of Salamander would have their own very detailed terrarium for them to thrive within.
"You may keep the pouches, gloves and water bottles if you like or you may place them in the box near the door on your way out." As she spoke the door they had entered through now appeared not too far behind her and a box was there on the left to out their things into if they didn't want to keep them. "For homework I would like you all to write a short essay on what you learned about the salamanders today. It can be simply based upon your own experience working with them or the lesson as a whole, whatever you choose." Very simply really and didn't require any research. "Have a wonderful rest of your day everyone." Hadleigh smiled warmly at them as the class was now over and they could all go about the remainder of their day. OOC: And that completes our lesson! Thank you all so much for joining in. We loved reading all of the posts! I'll leave this open until tomorrow morning for anyone that would like to finish up

| Long catch-up post incoming! Bathes in Maple Syrup | Dancing Lobster | Mrs. Charlie Weasley | Seneca's Beard | That's So Fetch He continued to wiggle the treat in his hand a few moments longer, only for nothing to happen. The salamander continued to swim about in the lava, seemingly not interested in what he had to offer. Or perhaps the creature simply was not interested in departing from its domain because he, a human, was there. Not everyone was like him or Beans and would just take food from anyone who offered it. So, with that logic, the boy set the salamander snack on the black rock and stepped a few paces away.
It took about a minute or two of waiting and total stillness, which was quite a feat for this Gryffindor, before any movement happened. Slowly but surely, the fire salamander swam out of the lava and crawled its way forward before pausing to stick out its long tongue and enjoy the treat. From where he was standing, Logan could not tell if it had scale rot or needed a different kind of treatment, so he placed another treat on the ground, which was followed by another and another until a small trail had been made, the space between each treat decreasing. Consider it a test of trust.
One by one, the fire salamander followed the trail and seemed to be enjoying the little feast it was munching on. Now that it was much closer, the fourth year was able to better inspect the beast. From what he could tell, the salamander's scales were not dull or flakey in the slightest. He'd be willing to bet galleons on it being fairly young, which its fiery red colour could confirm. "Looking healthy, my guy," he told the salamander pleasantly as he leaned over to leave behind a handful of crickets and other insects.
Feeling like he was due for a change in environment, Logan bid his fire salamander friend farewell and continued along the path. As impressive as the volcanic environment had been, he was happy to feel a temperature change as he entered the rainforest and was hit by a wave of humidity. It was still hot of course, but it was certainly not as intense. Nevertheless, he did not hesitate to take this moment to drink from his water bottle as his eyes took in all of the trees and fauna that covered the place.
After gazing up, down, left, and right for a few minutes, two salamanders, green and purple (the colour of the Peruvian salamander popping out to him instantly), chilling at the base of a tall tree with thick vines managed to catch his attention. The green one appeared like it had fallen victim to scale root as its tail was nowhere to be seen. For a moment he felt sorry for the creature but reminded himself that salamanders were lucky because they were able to regenerate limbs. Its purple friend, however, was displaying a serious case of scale rot. It was a good thing he had arrived at such a time!
Two large piles of grub were placed near the two salamanders, who were quick to start eating and didn't seem to mind his presence. The blond first gave the green salamander a proper look over. The loss of tail was the only major issue, but he figured it'd be fully grown again in a couple of weeks. To play it safe, though, a handful of chilli powder was rubbed on the creature. The purple salamander, considering the state of it, needed more attention. More powder was applied and he rubbed and rubbed until the rot started to come off. Within a few minutes, the purple salamander's scales were looking as healthy as ever.
The announcement that there were only fifteen minutes of class left was heard loud and clear. After scattering some more insects around the thick trunk of the tree and finding a spot to light a new fire for the salamanders to enjoy on their own time, the boy returned to the path and followed the others to their final environment. Bracing himself for what was bound to be a sudden climate shift, a heating charm had been cast on himself. Part of him considered going back as he favoured the warmth over the cold, but he continued on the snowy path as he wanted to interact with a frost salamander before the lesson came to a conclusion.
With everything in their surroundings being so white, he figured that it would be significantly easier to spot a frost salamander than those that could better blend into the previous environments. After trudging around in the snow for a minute or so, the blue scales of a frost salamander were spotted. Logan reached into his pouch and reached around for some food though stopped mid-grab when the salamander was given a proper look. Was it... dead?!
Assessing the situation, he noticed that the creature was not moving, its blue colour was not as vibrant as he thought it would be and some scale rot was present. He leaned in the snow and inched his face a smidge closer, which allowed him to see it breathing very, very slowly -- what a relief! Wasting no time, he darted over to his mum to get some dry ice and dashed back so he could treat the poor little thing.
Following a few applications of the dry ice, the limbs of the salamander started twitching and its scales gradually became more vibrant, resembling that of ice. Happy to see that it was starting to be more mobile, Logan then laid out some food, which he froze with a simple Glacius. The salamander was at least hesitant to accept the offering, but it soon slurped up the frozen bugs and worms before it darted off into one of the snow tunnels.
Logan wanted to dart off as well, mainly because he wanted to be somewhere warmer. But what was that about an essay? As he started making his way toward the door, a groan was suppressed. Would his mum let him orally tell her everything he had learned from the experience? He wasn't in the mood to write an essay (never mind the fact he never was). Plus he had other things he had to do, like figure out why Vera girls were so weird and moody. One Charlie Bergstrand surely had those answers, so he was going to linger outside the room for the older student.
