Okay, so apparently she was a Gryffindor...whatever that meant. She was on the red team, and that was the extent of her knowledge when it came to her new home away from home. Up until the last second, she'd been hoping someone in here would realize the big mistake and send her packing right on back home.

No such luck.

There had been a hat--but not just any hat---a REAL, LIVE hat with thoughts and emotions and movement. It had sat on top her head and had an actual conversation with itself until it had made what was seemingly a super important decision. It didn't matter much to Nora. She still hadn't come around to this whole magical world yet.

She made her way to the house table and toward her new housemates. Why did everybody seem so much happier about this than she did? A sudden feeling of homesickness came over her, and she thought about what her mom, dad, brother, and little sisters were doing. It wasn't fair that she had been tossed into this whole new world without them. With a barely audible sigh, she took a seat at the table and sat in silence.

Having to change from the comfort of a hoodie into the school robes had been met with a lot of grumbles and groans from the now 3rd year, but she had done it and she was now sat at the table and properly dressed. Even though she really wished she wasn't. Normally she would have LOVED the start of term feast, but she had started the day not feeling well and eating chocolate frogs with Maria on the train had not been the cure all she'd been hoping for. Go figure.

So it was a quiet Vera this year that had found herself a seat at the Gryffindor table, and instead of trying to annoy converse with everyone around her, she'd simply thumped her forehead on the table in front of her. The plan was to stay like that until the end of the Feast, but the sorting always interested her so eventually she did lift her head. Just in time to see a new lion (Nora) being placed and finding a spot at the table - with a sigh that did not go unnoticed. "Hi, welcome to Gryffindor. We're better than the other houses, promise. No need to be disappointed."

Arden was a big bad FOURTH YEAR!

The middle children of Hogwarts, the fourth years, and Arden couldn’t have been MORE excited about it. She felt cooler. She felt OLDER. She had her fluffy hair up in a half-pony with a rainbow scrunchie in. Her robes were a little sloppy - sure, not neat and ironed or anything - but she was straightening her tie juuuust as she arrived at her house table.

AND WHAT A SAD SIGHT IT WAS!

“Oy! You two! Cheer up, eh? It’s a FEAST. There’s going to be amazing food and FRIENDS involved!” She grabbed a cup of pumpkin juice and raised it up at them. “You must be a new first year!” She said to the new face [Nora]. “I’m Arden! A fourth year.” She had quite the smug smirk on her face as she took a sip of her drink. “And Vera! Are you feeling okay!? You’re normally the life of the party!” Like what the HECK, hOUSEMATES?

Nora looked at the empty plates in front of her. Please tell me we're not expected to swish and flick our food to us. She might die of starvation before she could get that done. At first, she didn't realize that somebody was talking to her, but a fleeing gaze around showed her a girl just a little older than her looking her way.

"Oh, I..." She hadn't intended to make it look like she was upset with her sorting, but that was probably the most logical explanation for most people. "It's not Gryffindor. I'm just still a little shook up about actually being here," she admitted. She managed a small smile. "The best house, huh? Awesome." If she was going to be here, being in the best house made it so much better. "I'm Nora." Just in case she hadn't heard that during the sorting.

Cheerfulness in the form of Arden Toros happened at that moment, and Nora realized she must look and seem like a literal mess. She should probably at least try to perk up, so people didn't think she was a walking and breathing rain cloud. She nodded silently about being a first year. That obvious, huh? "I'm Nora," she replied. "I'm sorry, I'm just a little nervous." That probably made her seem really lame, but she couldn't worry about that kind of thing right now.

As fast as summer went, it sure felt like an eternity since Freddie was back in the Great Halls. With his best friend and business partner in tow, Atlas, he could just smell the air of a new school term. SNIIIIFFF. "Boy, I'm glad we ate some snacks because I can't wait to dig in." He said before plomping in the seat.

By the time the sorting ceremony began, naturally Freddie was amongst those cheering loudly for every new Gryffindor entry, "Hello Nora! Welcome to Gryffindor!" But then he looked sheepish at his neighbor incase his volume was too much. The younger girls (Vera + Arden) were already making the firstie feel right at home. Before he turned to his neighbor to pull out a parchment with diagrams on it from his pocket.

Yumeki had slept nearly the whole ride up and even on the carriage ride to the Castle. Having to be nudged awake each time so he wouldn't be left behind on either when they made their destinations. This wasn't just your typical Exhausted Yumeki look though. A bit more of a look at the Sixth Year and you might see that he was Actually Tired. Right up until he was loading up onto the Locomotive he was being trained and practicing with his Great-Grandfather and getting lectures from his Great-Grandmother.

So there he was Yumeki head flat on the Gryffindor Table. Facedown on the plate. Occasionally moving it left or right, eyes shut as he slumbered away at the Opening Feast.

They hadn't even begun the feast yet and Finn was already worried. About classes, about O.W.L.s... what that Hufflepuff had said to him over the summer had really sunk in. He wasn't sure where Matilda had gotten to, so he sat down next to Yumeki. Who was asleep, of course. Finn gave the older student a nudge. Maybe Yumeki could tell him O.W.L.s were a breeze and he could stop worrying, yeah?

"Psst...Yumeki, wake up," he said. "You're missing it." Missing what, he wasn't positive. The sorting, he supposed, but he'd have to come up with a better answer if Yumeki woke up grumpy.

Hearing the statement it was time to cheer up, Vera looked over towards the speaker - only to smile a bit when she saw Arden joining them. She liked Arden a whole lot and would probaaaaably go on a limb and say she was the coolest from the older years. Actually, she'd definitely say that - especially considering she didn't pay THAT much attention to the older years. At the question if she was feeling okay, she just kept the smile on her face and gave a small nod of her head, before her mood rose a bit and she preened at being referred to as the life of the party. That certainly did wonders for her small ego!! "I'm okay, just a looooong train ride." Not true but she didn't want to risk anyone trying to make her see a Healer the first night. She'd be fine with some sleep. "but thank you for noticing I'm fun. How was your summer, Arden??"

Oh the first year was surprised to be here? An eyebrow quirked up at that as her head tilted. "Were you expecting to Ilvermorny? Or Beauxbatons?" She heard those were really cool too so she wasn't sure if Hogwarts would be an upgrade - so maybe potentially being disappointed would make more sense. "Our common room is really cozy and I think we won the House cup last year!" Either that or Ravenclaw stole it from them. Honestly, she couldn't remember. But it had been CLOSE. "It's nice to meet you, Nora. I'm Vera. If you have any questions, I can try to answer them." Key word - try.

The seventh years were certainly lively weren't they? Ve just gave a small smile at Freddie and his arrival before curiously looking over towards Yumeki. Honestly, impressive he could sleep through the chatter. She was curious to see if Finn would be able to successfully awaken.

That was the real question wasn't it? How Could he sleep through all this chatter and noise? Well you could do anything if you put your mind to it. So that's what Yumeki did. In this kind of environment it wasn't so much as being asleep as it was just doing your best at ignoring the noise and getting the needed sleep even if it was just a light slumber where he still kept himself aware of his surroundings.

He had hoped that the appearance of him face down on a plate would have been convincing enough to let a sleeping lion slumber, but he supposed now that in a den of lions none really cared if the other was asleep or not. He flipped his head in the direction of where he was being nudged and without even lifting his head up his drowsy eyes stared up at Finn "Shhh [I'm not missing anything.]" in Japanese then "You can nudge me when the Headmaster gives his speech" Wasn't about to let a plate of food just appear all over his face.

He stayed quiet for just a moment longer then looked back over at Finn. Head still down "How was your summer?" ...

Nora felt herself relax a little as more and more people were sorted. She thought about what she'd said on the train. How was she supposed to find the other Muggleborns here? Stand on the house table and shout across the room? Yeah...that was not going to happen. She'd just have to find some other way.

She was drawn out of her thoughts when she heard her name. She turned toward Freddie, who was definitely one of the older kids here. "Thanks," she said, and she even managed a smile of amusement when she saw how sheepish he was. She didn't mind his loud volume, if that's what this was all about. It made her less nervous and less focused on what was bothering her.

What was with Gryffindors putting their face flat down on the table? We're looking at you, Yumeki. Were they all just super tired? Or really, really dramatic? She turned away from him, making a mental note to nudge him when the food appeared. Or, maybe not, because some other Gryffindor boy had done just that. Ehh, he could have at it.

Instead, she looked back at Vera, who was asking her about...something. "Was I expecting what? Ilvermorny? Beauxbatons?" she replied. What on Earth was that? Were those the spells they had to do to get the food to appear or something? Having a cozy common room sounded good, though. Nora could do with lying down and stretching out some. Not to mention that the more people talked about Gryffindor, the better she felt about it. Not that she ever felt bad about it. She just hadn't known what it was. "Thanks," she added. It was nice to have Vera offer to help her out if needed.

Never fear, Logan Paton is now here! The third year found plopped himself on a bench, sitting across from his best friend's sister. A quick glance up at the front of the hall was enough to know that he hadn't completely missed the sorting ceremony. Were they on the Ps yet? He was ready to eat.

"Just don't ask Vera for any fashion advice," he told the first year, butting into the conversation, as he ran his fingers through his hair. "I'm Logan by the way. My grandparents and parents were prefects here once. And my mum's up there. She teaches Care of Magical Creatures, and is our Head of House now." He still wasn't sure how he felt about that last part. But he hoped she'd let Beans hang out in the common room instead of down in her cabin now. "Anyway. What really matters is that we know the school like the back of our hand. So give us a shout if you need a guide or two."

Never mind the fact that there were still many passages and rooms that he had to discover. But that was neither here nor there at this current moment in time.

"So ... new head man ... do you think he seems like a softy?" the blond asked to no one in particular. His mum hadn't told him anything about the man (probably on purpose), but, from what he could see, the headmaster appeared rather chipper. Hopefully he liked Gryffindor antics because, well, they could be a rowdy bunch.

"Oh, don't be sorry! A lot of first years and transfers get nervous at the Start-of-Term feast!" she reassured Nora. "It's tooootally okay to be nervous. But try to settle in! The speech shouldn't be too much longer..." Y'know, once everyone was sorted and all.

But the Gryffindor table was filling up, and this made Arden oh-so-wiggly.

Errrr, why had that sixth year [Yumeki] put his head down as soon as he arrived? Arden couldn't remember his name, but she leaned over the table and whispered!shouted at him. "PSSSST. ARE YOU OKAY?" Because he didn't SEEM okay. She took another sip of her pumpkin juice when Vera asked her how her summer was, and Arden shrugged just a tad. "It was not really exciting. The usual, I guess? It wasn't necessarily bad, but I like a little adventure sometimes - a little RAZZLE DAZZLE!"

Her stomach decided to give a loud gurgle!rumble, and she rubbed it a little as she finished off her first cup of pumpkin juice. Maybe if she kept drinking she wouldn't feel so hungry ;___;

Meredith arrived in the Great Hall much later than expected and had missed the sorting. During the train ride, the Gryffindor realized she had accidentally placed her camera in her trunk, so instead of going straight to the feast, she had ducked out of the crowd and sneaked to the trunks lining the walls and on the staircase.

She had searched and searched, but she had to conclude that one of the House Elves had already brought her trunk up to the dormitory. Meredith sat down and picked up her fork as she looked over to the staff table. There were a lot of new faces tonight but she was happy that Professor DeVries was still there. She enjoyed his classes a lot.

"Did headmaster Kazmi resign?" she asked the closest person to her.

Freddie obviously radiating, Atlas felt a familiar unpleasant feeling involving shadows and himself being hidden in them. Had he slipped on his Invisibility Cloak and just flat out forgotten that he had? Sure felt that way seeing as people seemed to literally be looking right through him or just not seeing him at all. Could he even fault anyone for that though? Vera, maybe, but not the new girl who looked almost like she could get lost in a wet paper bag. Being a first year was rough - his first term certainly was. Atlas was not exactly effervescent and considerably less so this term despite Freddie's spunk being moderately infectious. Slipping his baseball cap off and into the pocket of his robes for safe keeping (he did, on occasion, have table manners and knew not to keep it on backwards while at the table), the seventh year ran his long fingers through his blonde hair in attempt to fluff it a bit and rid it of that uncool hat hair aesthetic. It mostly worked - at least his hair was on his side today.

He DID, even though they might not deserve it, offer meek sort of smiles for greetings as he strut along Freddie's shadow until plopping down into a seat on the bench beside his dormmate. His other side...vacant... and a jarring reminder again of what this term was SUPPOSED to be and now was not. Hopefully Remy would be along soon. "Yeah, welcome to Gryffindor," he nodded coolly and ran his free hand along his still very square jawline.

His hand sliding forth from his pocket, and a little metallic companion clinging to his sleeve, his forget-me-maybenot-blues drifted to Yumeki with his face smushed against the plate. Why, yes, who wouldn't want a bit of sweat and grime with their mashed potatoes? To eat their own and whatever.

A gentle clink alerted him that Thimble had made her way out from his pocket, her current situation now being a gentle scurry around his silverware while her lightbulb illuminated itself on and off in a sort of Morse code. He was still in the middle of teaching her it and all that was delayed since he had needed to repair her lightbulb several times and fix her enchantments more than the others. "No, don't go wandering off. You're supposed to stay in my pocket," he shushed her while tapping the table with his fingers to indicate she needed to turn her adorable metal self around NOW. "What are all those?" he asked while subconsciously leaning over towards Freddie to take a better look at what he had so flamboyantly pulled out and clearly wanted Atlas to ask about.

You had him at diagrams, honestly. Consider attention captured.

Meanwhile, Thimble was most certainly NOT listening and on her way to go flash her blub in the sleepy Gryffindor's face. She was, after all, enchanted to be helpful little creature.

Overhearing Meredith, just across the table from himself, Atlas took a beat to soften his words so he did not let his wallowing self pity and petty get the best of him. "Yeah. Announced it during his end of term speech last term. New bloke looks...alright enough, I suppose. Couldn't possibly be worse than our first year's headmaster."

You know, Neo-Alliance leader strutting into the Great Hall and former Headmaster Trent's face melting off and all that.

Atlas wasn't superstitious but...he would knock on the table a few times. Just in case.

"And I believe that this seat is... mine. Joel Peter Hellmann, newest addition to the house." He announced to whoever was listening at his new table, grinned again, and plopped down onto the seat he had just claimed for himself.

Which wasn't next to his big brother, thank you very much. Even though Bradley Hellmann was at the same table as him, he did not need his big brother and so he sat apart.

But he did wave at his brother. With a smug face.

"So what's on the menu?" he asked, as he looked at the plates hungrily. The train ride was too long for him to survive, quite honestly. And he had only a mild interest in the other first years, now that he was done with sorting.

So, food?

Her confusion made it seem pretty obvious Nora had not been expecting one of the other wizarding schools, which meant only one other option. "Is magic new to you?" Ve had grown up so surrounded by magic she often times forgot that muggle borns were entirely shocked by well.... Everything. Which honestly if you asked her, that seemed MORE fun. Imagine getting to experience everything for the first time with no preconceptions. "the places I mentioned are other wizarding schools, in America and France." She offered as explanation, before simply smiling at her gratitude and nodding her head.

The smile vanished though as Logan slid into the seat across from her, and typical reaction of his presence her eyes rolled. She would have pointed out she had EXCELLENT fashion sense now, just .. ignore her earlier train outfit too. Though considering the top had been Vasco's the argument could be made it was he who had terrible fashion sense. "We really should just get you a Ravenclaw robes. Then you could go sit with Vasco at every meal, and I could eat in peace." Ahhh, the life. But on the part regarding his mom, she could at least agree. Logan might not be looking forward to her being their head of house, but Vera kind of was.

And the Headmaster? She glanced his direction, before giving a nod of her head. "He looks like a grandpa who probably carries sweets around for his grandkids." Or was that a grandma thing? Maybe it was universally grandparents, regardless of gender identity?

Eyes shifting to Arden, she smiled again, a small giggle at the term 'razzle dazzle'. Liking adventure was something they could certainly agree on. "What was the most exciting part of your summer this year though?" There had to be SOMETHING, right? Hearing Meredith's question, Ve almost offered an answer but Atlas was beating her to it so she just... Shushed and let him take it away. Leaning on her hand, she looked towards the staff table silently agreeing with Arden's stomach. She wasn't so anxious for food, but she was anxious for the end of the first evening.

At least, until she heard the mechanical noises coming near Yumeki and sat upright to try to peeeeeer over him. Seriously, those things were SO cool. "Hey Atlas? How many of the little mechanical insects HAVE you made?" Mere curiosity.

Callie walked over to the Gryffindor table with confidence in her step. If there was one thing Charlie, her older sister, had taught her it was that if you looked confident people wouldn't pick on you, and you'd be in control of the situation. Glancing around at all the older kids she noticed one of the girls that had just been sorted. She couldn't remember her name (Nora), moved to sit beside her, "Care if I sit here?"

She glanced at all the older students and decided to just plop herself down. Confidence. Don't be scared, but she was terrified. She turned to take a peek for her older brothers hoping that they had seen her safely make it to the Gryffindor table. She turned her head at Joel who just announced his arrival like grand central stations schedule. She liked his confidence she wondered if he was a first year too.

Confidence sure was something Joel did not lack.

After making sure that his big brother caught his smug face, he looked around. It was clear the food wasn't going to be here yet, so he might as well meet... this other girl, who had just been sorted. See, he pretended to not care about the rest of the ceremony, but he kind of was forced to due to the lack of food. He waved at her, who sat across him.

"Callista, huh? Cool name." He grinned. He looked as if he was going to say something else, but it was cut short by a dude who got up and started talking.

Wilber Winterbottom, the Headmaster, sure. Joel listened intently to see if it contained anything important, and shrugged in the end. He seriously doubted that the Headmaster really meant that anyone was welcome at his office. The guy must be very busy. But Joel liked to challenge people over things they promised, so he made a mental note to visit him.

But first, food!

He did grow up in a fully magical family, but his mum never managed to create food out of thin air! So when the table got food, he was VERY impressed, and it was evident on his eyes that got bigger, and open mouth. "Wow!" he exclaimed, and after hesitating for only a split second, he quickly decided what he wanted to eat, and filled his plate far more quickly than pretty much anyone around him.

Hey, he had a BIG family, and he knew the rules of defensive eating!

Nora cast a wondering look around. Had Nancy jumped off the train somewhere? She had hoped they'd be sorted in the same house, but seeing as the other first year wasn't around, that was highly unlikely. As Nora turned back around, she was met with Logan tossing in some random line about fashion advice. Now which one was Vera again? "Nice to meet you," she said, her eyes somewhat widening at all the people the older boy seemed to know. "I wish my mom was up there." She trailed off a little on that last note. A wave of homesickness rushed upon her again.

She followed along with his conversation, as he seemed to be talking to everyone as a whole. New man? Which new man? They were all new to Nora. She decided not to try and answer that one. Her gaze flickered toward Arden, and she smiled. "Yeah. I'll try not to, it's just..." How could she say this? "It's not just the school that's new. It's the whole wizarding world." As in, she'd been completely clueless about everything until that owl had shown up.

Then some boy named Joel appeared and so boldly announced his newness. Well, then. That made Nora feel less out of place now. "Hey, Joel. I'm Nora, another new Gryffindor," she said. Her voice sounded of a confidence she didn't even realize she had. As for the menu? "I don't know, but I'm starving!" She was starting to doubt there would actually be food.

Nora looked down the table. Is magic new to her? Oh, right---this girl was Vera! Maybe putting names with faces wouldn't be so hard after all. "Yeah," she quietly replied. "Brand new. I didn't even know all this existed." Honestly, it had all been fairy tales and fiction to her not too long ago. Her eyes widened a little. "There are other wizarding schools? There's more of us than I thought..." She had no clue why, but she'd gotten the weird impression that the magical world consisted just of everybody in this room and their families.

Then to her surprise, someone actually approached her and wanted to sit next to her (Callie). "Oh, yeah, sure," she said, and she felt herself relax even more. Everybody seemed really nice, and she was meeting lots of new people. "I'm Nora, by the way." She started to strike up conversation, but one of the adults at the staff table (the headmaster), quietened everyone down for his speech. Nora couldn't help it, but she silently judged the man. Why did he look like he had no idea what he was doing? But never mind that---THE FOOD WAS HERE! Nora temporarily ignored everything else around here and focused on the meal.

With a smile she turned to the other confident soul at the table. A slight pink hit her cheeks as he complimented her name. "Thank you. I'm rather partial to my name. I didn't catch yours." She grinned. Her sister would smack her shoulder and tell her to quit being so cheeky, but she didn't care she was going to enjoy the moment before school started and got bor-ing.

Turning her attention back to the girl beside her and smiled, "Glad it was okay." She hadn't really given her a chance, but sometimes you just had to be bold. "Nice to meet you Nora, I'm Callista." She was about to tell her to call her Callie when the headmaster started speaking and all of the sudden food appeared on the table. She knew it was going to happen but actually watching it happen was an exciting adventure in of itself. Well it was exciting to say the least."

Was his buddy invisible? Well, Freddie couldn't agree with that, it was hard for him not to notice the hat hair Atlas got from wearing it too long. "Hey, you missed a spot, here," Using his free hand that wasn't on the diagram page to ruffle up the cowlick part of hair into a lil temporary fluff. "That's better," Beaming at Atlas (and himself for the task well done). "See, I was thinking about this project we got for Muggle St-" Suddenly someone's entrance was quite vocal. Did someone want a challenge in volume? Not that Freddie was competitive.... all the time. "Hi Joel! Welcome to Gryffindor," Not tonight at least, Freddie was going to be a good senior Gryffindor.

Hopefully, Atlas didn't mind too much on the first year Joel taking his vacant spot. Especially when Vera had noticed the mechanical insects, "That's what I would like to know," As if he couldn't smile any brighter. Afterwards, Freddie attempted to show off the diagram with Atlas again. "So what do you think? Could definitely use your ideas on it, partner," He definitely wanted an O this year.

"Hi Nora," Joel exclaimed and took out his hand for a shake. That was how his dad always greeted new people, and he had manners, see?

So the menu was a mystery? He looked puzzled for a moment. Brad, his big brother, had previously told him that it was only mediocre, which didn't matter to this boy as long as it was served. He looked at other tables, but no one had any luck it seemed. Well, maybe he could ask if... oh, hi, an older student! He grinned at Freddie.

"Thanks!" He wanted to ask about the food situation, but Freddie seemed busy, and he figured they wouldn't let anyone go hungry. So he shrugged to himself, and...


...meeting people seemed more interesting right now, since there wasn't much he could do about the food, so he turned his attention to Callista.

Just as the dude got up to deliver his speech.

"It's Joel Hellmann," he quickly whispered to her in response. He had a witty comment about his surname, but it was rude to speak during the speech of seemingly the Headmaster, so he held it back.

And then forgot, because food appeared!

"This is great!" he exclaimed to the people in the vicinity, and took a bite from his chicken.

Finn grinned and rolled his eyes good-naturedly as Yumeki refused to lift his head. "My summer was good," he said, before promptly getting distracted by the influx of first years to their table. They were so little! Had he been that little as a first year? He didn't think so.

As someone (Logan) asked if the headmaster seemed like a softy, Finn chuckled. "Gee, I hope so," he said. A relaxing year, other than his upcoming O.W.L. exams, would be welcome.

And then the headmaster was giving his speech, and once he finished, Finn found himself once more nudging Yumeki--a little more forcefully this time. "Better sit up unless you want a face full of mashed potatoes," he said, sitting back to decide what he should eat first himself. He chuckled at a nearby first year (Joel) enjoying his first Hogwarts feast. It was great, when you took the time to reflect on it.

...Vegetables. For some reason, he wanted to start with vegetables. Finn gave himself a large helping of the nearest green food at dug in.

Yumeki fatigued as he was grinned at Finn's answer. "Same here. Kept really really busy." He tried to hide a yawn as he lazilly flipped his to the other direction now looking for who had asked him if he was okay. Was the question directed toward him? There was so much conversation going on that it might have been a miracle that Yumeki even picked up on those words. His eyes met a red head's who was intensely starring at him. He blinked at her a couple of times. "Me?" He asked assuming she was the one who spoke those words and they were in fact for him. "I'm great...just exhausted." He sent her a tired grin her way as well.

What would have been a great idea would have been to have his head turned in the direction of the Staff Dias. He could have had a visual who was the Headmaster so that when he saw him stand he would also lift his head. Yumeki decided though to leave it all to Finn. Trusted his Housemate would be on top of keeping his face nice and food free.
With the nudge and the Mashed Potatoes comment he raised his head slowly and sat up straight-ish (definitely still slouched). "A mashed potato pillow sounds fluffy and comfortable."
The food now in front of him. The aroma in the Great Hall now filled with the smells of fully cooked meals Yumeki tilted his head down and dozed off sitting up.

No dreams at the feast would be had and any attempt to get even a 5 minute nap was rudely interrupted. The light clicking whirring around his head was so close it was almost as if someone was clicking a pen into his ears themselves. Then the flashes of light.
