After descending a narrow spiral staircase accessed through a door on the left side of the Entrance Hall, you can immediately sense a change in temperature. In spite of the numerous torches that are scattered along the stone corridor, the warmth emitting from the flames isn't enough to keep those goosebumps at bay. Movement is your best source of heat down here, so you had best keep on walking forward at a brisk pace.
Going further down the long, gloomy stone corridor branches off to a web of more corridors that are just as long and even gloomier. Portraits depicting the most esteemed pure-bloods of the past adorn these walls. Some are covered with cobwebs, but others will follow your every move with judgmental eyes -- if you are not of a worthy blood status or a Slytherin for that matter, many of these portraits will shout out snide comments at you. Pay no attention to them, however; you have better places to be and things to do, such as exploring the underground chambers or attending Potions class.

Change in temperature?
Yes. Claudine sure felt it but after three years of the Castle {one couldn’t count her first year since they had all temporarily relocated to Beauxbatons} she was quite used to the chilliness of the dungeons. She also felt the many pairs of eyes which belonged to the portraits upon her. Some of those portraits could be quite rude but none of their comments ever bothered her, good or bad. The Slytherin supposed that she never felt the brunt of their words as much because of her blood status.
Oddly enough, Claudine never spent time to really examine the portraits, having just walked past them with a glance. She came to a halt in her tracks now - were these few in this particular corner of the wall always covered in cobwebs?

It was unfortunate he didn't currently have anyone on detention duty. It was the perfect cover to have someone run his errands. Errands were nothing more than a distraction from more pressing matters--and those were to be added to the ready made distractions of Hogwarts.
Always something. Always someone. Always an issue or another that apparently could only be solved by the Headmaster. What a joke.
The man made his way down the corridor, his steps sure and swift. It was the potions storage room for him. There were a few ingredients he...needed. Perhaps it was for the best he didn't have an errand child on hand. Some things were best kept to himself.
On his way down, he caught sight of the fourth year and her attention to the portraits. "If they concern you, you should clean them."
Keep her busy and out of his business on his way back.

Ashley walked along the corridor. It was cold in here. And those paintings gave her the heebie-jeebies. And they were rude. She made a threatening face at them in case they even THOUGHT about insulting her. It was a threatening face for sure. She noticed that some of them were covered in cobwebs. Fine with her.

Had the House Elves abandoned this part of the Dungeons? Claudine wondered to herself. She couldn’t see how, given that the little creatures were hardworking and usually thorough. It was indeed puzzling to her. At least none of the portrait occupants had decided to shout insults at her…yet. If they did, she just might have to shout a few of her own back at them. And certainly she would not give the cobwebs a quick Vanish if they were rude…
Her right hand moved to unholster her wand but she froze when she heard that voice.
UGH. What was he doing here?
You know sometimes when you have every intention of doing a task but nevertheless someone comes along and tells you to do it? What happens is that you lose motivation to complete said task usually. Such was the case of Claudine and Trent at present that made the Slytherin drop her hand to her side.
“It is not bothering me,’’ Claudine told the Headmaster, looking around to focus on his stupid nose.
Beezley was in a hurry, she had a basket of potion ingredients to restock the shelves for the students and their classes, but as she turned the corner to hurry down the corridor she hadn't realized someone placed slugs from the pit on the corridor floor. Slipping on the slime left behind she went sliding across the corridor tossing her basket in the air.
As ingredients scattered all over the floor and her little elf body finally stopped sliding she got up and looked down. Covered in mucus and slugs she shook to try to get it off. "No, no, Beezley wasn't supposed to do that. Slugs aren't supposed to be here."
Please delete if this isn't the same TL as Claudine/Trent ^_^

A welcome distraction from Trent was the sound of movement down one corridor end. What was not welcome was when she realised that it happened to be a house elf who had taken an unfortunate fall. Oh no. Already forgetting about the grump of a Headmaster, the Slytherin took quick steps to reach the elf. “Did you hurt yourself?’’ The poor elf. A closer examination of the floor told Claudine that there were indeed slugs on the ground. What? But that wasn’t her concern right now. She extended a hand to the elf. “Here. Let me help you up and then we can get this cleaned up.’’ After which, perhaps, they could try to figure out where these yucky, slimy slugs came from, plus gather the once-contents of the basket.

Oh, oh, if it wasn't bad enough that Beezley fell a student had seen the fall. Letting the child help her up and looked around and her eyes grew big seeing who the student was with. "Beezley sorry, Beezley didn't mean to fall and break some of the ingredient jars." She pulled at her ears nervously, "Beezley will get this cleaned right away." She moved to try and pick up the jars, but her feet still with slime slipped again. Grabbing the girl without realizing she went down on the floor again.

Why did House Elves always apologise? Even when things weren’t their fault? “It’s okay, Beezley. With a little magic, we can have the jars fixed in no time.’’ Did the reassuring work? Claudine really hoped so. At least now the little elf was on her feet but the Slytherin was worried that Beezley might actually hurt her ears. “I’ll help you, if you don’t mind.’’ Claudine had her wand at the ready and was actually moving to get closer to the pieces when she was grabbed again.
Caught off guard, and her own feet slipping and sliding in goo, the Snakette went down as well. She landed heavily on her belly, the wind knocked out of her. And just as bad?
¨OOOOOOhhhhh Beezley is very sorry, Beezley didn´t mean to get the misses all slimy. Beezley is a bad elf.¨ Grabbing her ears she started pulling them hard as she slowly got up again. ¨Beezley is a bad elf, Beezley will clean this up.¨ Snapping her fingers she cleaned the slime off the student.

Excuse her while she tried to get her breath back. Claudine laid there very still, inhaling through her mouth {because you know… gulping air through one’s mouth seemed more convenient in terms of the amount of air to inhale} and pretty soon she felt much better. But by then, Beezley had already cleaned the slime away and was done pulling her own ears.
“It’s not your fault,’’ Claudine reassured yet again but suspecting that her words would mean nothing. “You’re not a bad elf.’’ The girl got to her feet with a wince before moving to pink up the basket. “Here you are, Beezley."
