DADA Lesson Two - Ice and Fire On a rather wet mid-April morning, you find yourself walking towards the Defence Against the Dark Arts classroom. As per Hirsch's style, the classroom has been transformed to suit the theme of the lesson of the day. There were no chairs, no desks and frankly, nowhere to work properly. class progression: OOC: Please make sure you're familiar with Hirsch's rules as well as the SS site rules before posting. |
Kimi walked into the classroom and said "Good day Professor Hirsch" Kimi saw where they were meant sit but he wandered over to where the boxes were and took a look once he sat down he wondered what they would be learning about today |
A class that Natalia did not like one bit had in one term become one of her favorite classes. She felt more confident, more ready when the lessons came up. Her extra lessons and practice were paying off. So as she walked into the classroom Nat was smiling. That was until she saw the room. What were they doing? "Hello professor" A more nervous sound came then the confident one she would have liked. She was fine, she could do it. She had been practicing and he thought she could do it. He had said so in the practice room. So the sixth year kept the smile even if it was a bit smaller on her face and turned to find a place to sit. The cushions were at least comfy. |
The rain had cheered up the young Ravenclaw as she walked along to class. The recent news about her mother was still very troubling so despite the half smile on Azura face, she walked into the classroom with a heavy heart. She glanced around for a few moments as she looked at the classroom.. and then blinked a bit.. She moved cautiously towards the Professor and took a peek at the items in the boxes.. "Bows and Arrows Professor? Are we going to be the targets? Or will other things be?"" She asked him with a warm smile. "Good Morning Professor, how are you?"" she asked as she settled in near his feet, |
"Do we get to aim at each other after practicing on the targets, professor?" Junia's eyes twinkled as she approached the older man, thinking that could be a rather exciting spin-off of the tag game. She'd never properly used a bow and arrow but she was naturally good at plenty of other things, so maybe this wouldn't be any different! Maybe. Oh and also, "Hi, by the way." Hello. Small Botros princess in the house. After getting her fill of observing the materials, the second year settled on a mat right in the front, eyes on Hirsch. In one of her stories, he'd be a knight. No doubt about it. |
WHAT? WHAT? BOWS AND ARROWS? ARCHERY WAS A THING THAT SHE ADOOOORED! Charlotte almost tripped over her usually graceful self in eagerness. Combining Defense class with archery? THAT WAS SO COOL! "Hello professor!" She greeted, and then tried her best to calm herself. |
Defense against the Dark Arts tended to be one of those classes that didn’t always look like a traditional class. And as Cassie stepped through the doorway of the classroom glad she wasn’t outside in the rainy morning air, she saw today was no different. The room was set out for practicals rather than theoreticals with targets instead of desks. The other side filled with mats and supplies and where the class seemed to be gathering at the moment. “Good Morning, Professor,” she greeted Hirsch as she made her way over, taking in the few already gathered. Kimi and Azura were there, a polite smile sent their way, as well as a couple Cass wasn’t familiar with. The Ravenclaw took up a careful seat on a mat to settle in until the activity actually began, her eyes flitting around to look over things once more to try and figure out what they would be doing. Archery seemed the best bet. |
Aoife had been excited about Defense Against the Dark Arts all morning, and her excitement was not diminished when she was greeted with targets. For shooting at. Awesome. After gathering every aspect of the room, including the three boxes full of protective stuff and bows and arrows, Aoife decided to get herself a good view and sat as close as she could to the professor on a cushion. Bows and arrows, maaaaaaaaan. Cool. "Good morning, Professor Hirsch!" Aoife said brightly. |
Just when Katerina though she couldn't love this subject anymore than she already did. This happened. Bow and arrows. Yes! She could not wait to see what they were going to do with those later. She walked around the boxes with a grin on her face. "Hello, Professor." Her smile didn't even fade As she looked around and decided on where to sit. She smiled even bigger when she seen Nat. Waving as she took the cushion next to her. "Hi, Nat." |
Not that she would have admitted it had anyone asked, especially since the last time she had ever admitted anything of the sort hadn’t gone exactly as planned, Brooklyn was fonder of DADA and Professor Hirsch than she had been back in that first ever lesson she’d had with him. Another reason she wouldn’t have admitted it was that she wasn’t entirely sure she had a reason. It just was, even if Potions and Transfiguration were still slightly above DADA in her list of favorite subjects. The rain hadn’t bothered her either, as she hadn’t intended on going outside. It had just lent a different sort of moodiness to the Slytherin common room as she had left it to head to class. The targets lining the left hand side of the room got a cursory glance from her but in general she ignored them. They likely weren’t going to factor into the lesson until later anyhow. Instead, she had made her way over to the area people were gathering in, her blue eyes noticing the boxes of supplies seconds before she’d noticed Professor Hirsch. “Good morning Professor Hirsch,” she said with a slight nod, glancing over to see if there was a good seat, going over to sit down once she’d chosen one. Plus, she’d wondered if they could use their own gloves for whatever it was they were doing later. She had hers in her bag, anyway. Either way, she stayed quiet. |
Time for another Defence class! It was probably the only class he’d attend without coaxing from…himself. It was one of the core subjects anyway so he had no choice but to attend Professor Hirsch’s class. He didn’t want to raise any more concern if he’d go missing, yes? That would be disastrous. Approaching the threshold, Jace poked his head first to make sure that there were no golems ready to whip his head off. After he deemed it was safe to go inside, he walked towards where the others have congregated, and stopped dead in his tracks the moment he saw his Head of House. Why did he feel so awkward towards that man? He’s the best sensei next to his other teachers in Japan, so why was he being uncomfortable? Clearing his throat, the 14 year old approached the man with his head lowered and offered his greetings. “Good day, sensei.” Without lifting his head, he saw the three boxes near Hirsch’s feet, and his eyes grew wide as saucers. “Kyu...Kyudo?”Jace’s face beamed because aside from Kendo, Kyudo was his next favourite sport. It was for…relaxing and meditating purposes though. The Ravenclaw immediately shook his head, as soon as he realized that he was still in the presence of his Head of House. Quickly, he scuttled to one of the mats and busied himself by reading his Defense book. Nothing to see here. |
Okaaaaaaaaay Now this is what Noelle liked to see when she walked into class. Target practice. Her smile grew substantially when she started examining. Oh! Rows! This was going to be a fun class. "Hey professor!" Noelle said brightly as she moved to the right side of the room to avoid everything. She waved at everyone and anyone as she headed for a cushion. Class was starting soon right? |
This was a good class. Not like Divinations. That was a horribly bad class. But defense against the dark arts was great. It was even great when Bradson Alek Somerhalder wasn't even a fighter. The third year was pretty dang sure that he wasn't against fighting or dueling. Well the dueling part was a little iffy with the badger. He had ZERO fun dueling his best friend last term. It wasn't something that he wanted to do BUUUUUT defense against the dark arts and fighting and dueling were a heck of a lot better than divinations. |
"Whoa." That was all Juno could say when she walked into the classroom. A grin crept it's way across her face. This was going to be an awesome lesson! She walked into the classroom. As she headed towards the rest of the class, she gave the professor a wave, and said, "Hello, Professor. Looks like it's going to be an exciting lesson." She gave him a grin before heading towards the rest of the class. |
*casually pretends she's chillaxin' with charries that can't be RP'd* Also, hi Brady Yeahhh she was failing epically at this calming down thing. And she was hopping foot to foot as she stood in front of Hirsch, peering down at the boxes. DRAGONhide? THOSE WERE DRAGONHIDE. And protective gear? Oooooh. .... were they gonna use FIYAHHH? FIYAAAH ARROWS? Flights of fancy were going on in this particular Gryffindor's head. Okay she should sit down. Man oh man. HOW was anyone supposed to sit when there were exciting things afoot though? She WAS a fourth year, she COULD control herself. She squished herself down on one of the cushions near Ava and Phillip and tried to sit still. WERE THEY GONNA START SOON? She looked up at Brady when he seemed confused about what was going on. WHO CARED though! It was exciting that it was different! "Of course you are, Brady! We're gonna SHOOT STUFF, probably!" Probably!!!!!! |
Ever since adopting and accepting her style of dueling - defense being the best offense - Paige was feeling a tiny bit more comfortable in this particular classroom. Knowledge was, after all, a form of defensive strategy and now that her post Hogwarts path was set...well...she understood the importance of theory with this particular subject. Better late than never, right? Although stepping into the classroom today left her rather uneasy. But...at least with actual bows and arrows that meant that they would not be conjuring them, right? Her aim was likely to be better sans a wand. Hopefully. No one stand too close to her, yeah? "Good day, professor," the Hufflepuff said with a small smile as she found somewhere to set her bag down. |
Bentley made his way to class, sweatered because Scotland rain was no joke and he really wasn't about this chilly weather. He looked around the classroom and gave a slight shrug. No desk and chairs meant that they would not be having a typical lesson and he was very good with that. He checked his watch and looked at the door. Blaise would be in shortly. "Morning Professor." |
There were bows and arrows. There were freakin' bows and arrows. Consider this Gryffindor's day made. He had successfully managed to show up to a Defense Against the Dark Arts class that looked like it'd be completely hands on and really, there was no greater feeling in the world. "Morning Professor." He all but chirped. "I'm absolutely looking forward to this lesson today. You're the real MVP, Sir, and don't you forget it."Did the Gryffindor seem really chipper today as he came to a stop by his cousin. Yes yes, it was a good day indeed. Blaise sunk to the cushion by their feet, tugging Bentley down with him. "You up for a friendly little wager?" Which...for them....technically wasn't all that friendly but, y'know. The competitive nature of a Gryffindor was never to be underestimated. |
Quote:
He sunk into the cushion next to Blaise and frowned. "I wasn't ready to sit yet thanks." Side eyes. "What kind of wager?" His cousin got a squinty eyed stare. Common sense told him not to bet with Blaise but he was a Gryffindor. |
DADA was amaze, Hirsch was amaze, and so it was with GREAT respect that he was actually on time and present at this here lesson. Yes. Slipping into the room, Zeke surveyed the set-up with hazel eyes before moving to the side of the class where Hirsch was standing. "Morning, Professor," he greeted before moving to sit on the floor, his legs bent in front of him while he rest his weight on his palms behind him. |
Another DADA lesson. It was with clear readiness that Hadleigh entered the room this morning. A steady hazel gaze swept over the immediate area taking in what was there and what wasn't. Interesting indeed. Seriously one never knew what to expect when stepping into this room. Watching her step and making her way around towards where Hirsch was standing she smiled in greeting. "Hello, Professor," she spoke quietly glancing around a brief moment before selecting the first empty mat that was on the floor. Sitting herself down she cross her legs underneath herself allowing her bag to slide off her shoulder and onto the floor at her side. It was then in the moment of silence while waiting for the start of the lesson that she took in everything else that was set up. |
Text Cut: You guuuys! Tick......... tock...... tick...... tock....... Hirsch's eyes flicked from his watched and up at the door, trying to see if there was anyone else ready to amble in in an attempt to look cool or rush in because they overslept. When it didn't look like anyone else was coming in, the man took out his wand and gave it a flick. At once, the door swung shut with a loud SNAP! Ah! Time to begin! "Right!" he said, clapping his hands once to gain everyone's attention, "Welcome to another Defence Against the Dark Arts lesson. Before we get into the bulk of this lesson, I have to warn you that it might be a bit....... dark." Duh. "Darker than usual. And a little violent, too. If anyone feels uncomfortable, you can sit out." He hoped no one would because this was Defence Against the Dark Arts and dark subjects were to be expected but you never knew. "The Dark Arts themselves are a general term that contains a number of different types of magic that's considered to be dark. You have dark creatures, dark objects, dark spells, enchantments and potions, even simple spells or objects used in a dark means." Not necessarily evil, mind you. "Today, we're going to be talking about one of those branches of dark magic that's generally considered to be very dark. You don't want to be caught practising this for any reason whatsoever." Pause. "So, what can everyone tell me about necromancy? What is your understanding of it? Why is it dark? Have there been any known uses of necromancy?" Really, anything they knew would do. OOC: EEEEEEE HAI :loved: The question's pretty simple but PLEASE try and say something different to what the others have said. And Hirsch wants your charries's interpretation/understanding of it, not a textbook answer. I'm going to move things on by tomorrow late-evening GMT, depending on when I get back. Class has already begun but you're mooooore than welcome to jump in if you haven't done so already. Just pretend as if you/your charrie have been here the whole time, okay? ^^ |
Dark subjects didn't bother the Gryffindor so much. Nope. She was no stranger to them really. At least in having read about them anyway. She was not a PRACTITIONER, mind you. But whatever. Dora raised her hand slowly and took a look around at her classmates. She had HEARD of necromancy, sure. She wasn't an expert or anything, but she had an answer... and a question for him as well. "Professor, Necromancy is a branch of magic that is used to contact the dead. It is most commonly thought of as like... reanimating a corpse. Like... bringing the dead back to life or something. But I think that it can be used to even speak to the dead... Maybe." That was probably the MOST the fifteen year old had ever said in a Defence class... maybe. Hah. But she quickly recalled that she wanted to ask him something on the subject matter! "Are inferi like... animated by Necromancy?" Because that was the first thing that came to mind for the Gryffindor really. |
Oooh oooooh, so they were touching on the really dark stuff huh? Bentley didn't mind one bit but if he saw inferi bust in through the class door he was out. So so sooooo out and if he had to blast students and the walking dead out of his way, then so be it. "Umm necromancy is trying to communicate with the dead, or attempting to raise the dead to do whatever creepy bidding you want them to. It's super weird. Pretty sure if you raise the actual corpse it probably stinks." The fourth year made a face. " I suppose it's forbidden because it would be super gross having stinking corpse wandering around." He added. |
Her eyes widened when he got started. He wanted them to do something super dark. She was interested and kind of scared at the same time. What if it was to difficult and she screwed it up? She didn't want to look stupid in front of him now. Not after trying as hard as she had this term. So she would just sit and try to pay attention extra hard today. His next words caught her off guard though. Necromancy? Wasn't that a form of Divination? Her hand rose as she was actually ready to answer. "Sir that has something to do with the dead. Some use the form in Divination to call on the dead to communicate. It is considered super dark because people use the dead to do their evil bidding." Something that no one should be doing, because honestly in her own opinion messing with someone that is in their eternal resting place is only messing with disaster. |
