It wasn't long before the first stream of students started to wander in and his mind was diverted from the target he'd been looking at. Finding the Hufflepuff, the man ended up smiling before saying, "Good morning, Mr Kovalainen."

What were they doing?

"Hello professor" A more nervous sound came then the confident one she would have liked. She was fine, she could do it. She had been practicing and he thought she could do it. He had said so in the practice room. So the sixth year kept the smile even if it was a bit smaller on her face and turned to find a place to sit.

The cushions were at least comfy.

The smile only widened at the sight of the next student to enter the classroom. Having worked with the girl all year, he knew that this probably wasn't the subject she excelled at but it was the one she worked a lot harder for than he'd seen her do before.

And yes, she could do it.

"Hello, Natalia," And why did she sound so nervous? Hmm?

"Bows and Arrows Professor? Are we going to be the targets? Or will other things be?"" She asked him with a warm smile. "Good Morning Professor, how are you?"" she asked as she settled in near his feet,

Ah, he should've expected a question about the items sooner or later. The man looked down at the boxes by his feet, a sly smile on his face. He would've usually hid them, let them be curious by a closed box, but this sounded like a much more fun option. Especially since he knew that they could only get an inkling as to what he had in mind, but not the full picture.

"Bows and arrows," he confirmed, looking back up at the Ravenclaw, "You'll find out soon enough." See? Fun. "Good morning, Azura. I'm pretty excited. How are you?"

Oh and also, "Hi, by the way." Hello. Small Botros princess in the house.

After getting her fill of observing the materials, the second year settled on a mat right in the front, eyes on Hirsch. In one of her stories, he'd be a knight. No doubt about it.

Aim at each other?! Now that was one way to make the man laugh.

He tried not to look too amused, though, as he shook his head and said, "Not a chance, Miss Botros, but your guess isn't very far off." It wasn't exactly hard to come up with a guess from the objects but he wasn't about to say that. "Hello to you too."

Enthusiasm was something he always liked seeing in his students and it was clear that the next student to enter the classroom was full of it. Amused. He was very amused right now.

"Hello, Miss Kettleburn." The amused expression was still on his face.

The room was set out for practicals rather than theoreticals with targets instead of desks. The other side filled with mats and supplies and where the class seemed to be gathering at the moment.

“Good Morning, Professor,” she greeted Hirsch as she made her way over, taking in the few already gathered. Kimi and Azura were there, a polite smile sent their way, as well as a couple Cass wasn’t familiar with. The Ravenclaw took up a careful seat on a mat to settle in until the activity actually began, her eyes flitting around to look over things once more to try and figure out what they would be doing. Archery seemed the best bet.

Something he was noticing about Miss McNally was how observant she was. It wasn't hard to make a guess as to what they might be doing but this was different. If it was her being constantly vigilant then the man would be very proud right now.

As it was, he gave her a smile and said, "Good morning, Miss McNally."

Bows and arrows, maaaaaaaaan.

Cool.

"Good morning, Professor Hirsch!" Aoife said brightly.

It was hard to miss that level of excitement and it was hard to stop Hirsch from smiling as soon as he saw it. Granted, he was pretty excited about this lesson but this enthusiasm was still nice to see.

"Hello, Miss Dunne," he said giving her a nod of his head and a smile.

As she looked around and decided on where to sit. She smiled even bigger when she seen Nat. Waving as she took the cushion next to her. "Hi, Nat."

And here was another enthusiastic student. Did they love Defence that much? Not that he was complaining, mind you, but it was a refreshing sight to see considering what else had been going on. So yes, he was happy to see that the Hufflepuff was grinning.

"Hello, Miss Delgado," he said, returning her smile with one of his own.

Another reason she wouldn’t have admitted it was that she wasn’t entirely sure she had a reason. It just was, even if Potions and Transfiguration were still slightly above DADA in her list of favorite subjects. The rain hadn’t bothered her either, as she hadn’t intended on going outside. It had just lent a different sort of moodiness to the Slytherin common room as she had left it to head to class.

The targets lining the left hand side of the room got a cursory glance from her but in general she ignored them. They likely weren’t going to factor into the lesson until later anyhow. Instead, she had made her way over to the area people were gathering in, her blue eyes noticing the boxes of supplies seconds before she’d noticed Professor Hirsch. “Good morning Professor Hirsch,” she said with a slight nod, glancing over to see if there was a good seat, going over to sit down once she’d chosen one. Plus, she’d wondered if they could use their own gloves for whatever it was they were doing later. She had hers in her bag, anyway. Either way, she stayed quiet.

Ah, yes. Yes, he expected to see this particular Slytherin here.

Miss Andrews, from what he'd gathered, was always elusive. Always someone with whom you never really knew where you stood and, as a matter of fact, he didn't know where he stood with her. But one thing he did know was that if she was here, at least she enjoyed being here. He hoped.

"Good morning, Miss Andrews," he said, giving her a nod of his head in return.

Approaching the threshold, Jace poked his head first to make sure that there were no golems ready to whip his head off. After he deemed it was safe to go inside, he walked towards where the others have congregated, and stopped dead in his tracks the moment he saw his Head of House.

Why did he feel so awkward towards that man? He’s the best sensei next to his other teachers in Japan, so why was he being uncomfortable?

Clearing his throat, the 14 year old approached the man with his head lowered and offered his greetings. “Good day, sensei.” Without lifting his head, he saw the three boxes near Hirsch’s feet, and his eyes grew wide as saucers. “Kyu...Kyudo?”Jace’s face beamed because aside from Kendo, Kyudo was his next favourite sport. It was for…relaxing and meditating purposes though. The Ravenclaw immediately shook his head, as soon as he realized that he was still in the presence of his Head of House.

Quickly, he scuttled to one of the mats and busied himself by reading his Defense book.

Nothing to see here.

If there was one entrance that made him particularly happy, it was this one. Why?

Constant vigilance!

Hirsch was practically beside himself when he saw the young Ravenclaw look around before entering the room. It gave him the indication that he was learning something from these lessons and knew to be careful at all times. A wide smile was spread on his face as he watched the boy enter the classroom, no doubt deeming it okay enough.

And then it faltered slightly. Huh. See, him and Mr Reed, Jace's father, had come to the agreement that their meeting shouldn't be mentioned to Jace but the behaviour from the third year made him wonder if he did, somehow, manage to find out. It would explain why he wouldn't even look at his own Head of House for long.

"Good morning, Jace." What was Kyudo?

This was going to be a fun class.

"Hey professor!" Noelle said brightly as she moved to the right side of the room to avoid everything. She waved at everyone and anyone as she headed for a cushion.

Class was starting soon right?

Hirsch had expected this kind of reaction from this young Gryffindor. Granted, it wasn't as enthusiastic as Miss Kettleburn's had been but the excitement was still there and he had taken note of it. Maybe it was going to be a lesson that benefited the girl's private training as well.

Maybe.

"Hello, Noelle!" he said, giving the girl a smile.

It wasn't something that he wanted to do BUUUUUT defense against the dark arts and fighting and dueling were a heck of a lot better than divinations.

The third year made his way into the classroom. His blue-green eyes looked around the classroom. It was different. Why was it different? Bradson spun around in a circle slowly to make sure that what he was seeing was in fact real. "Am I in the right classroom?" The Scottish boy called out to anyone?Anyone at all.

.... were they gonna use FIYAHHH?

FIYAAAH ARROWS?

Flights of fancy were going on in this particular Gryffindor's head. Okay she should sit down. Man oh man. HOW was anyone supposed to sit when there were exciting things afoot though?

She WAS a fourth year, she COULD control herself. She squished herself down on one of the cushions near Ava and Phillip and tried to sit still.

WERE THEY GONNA START SOON? She looked up at Brady when he seemed confused about what was going on. WHO CARED though! It was exciting that it was different!

"Of course you are, Brady! We're gonna SHOOT STUFF, probably!" Probably!!!!!!

This was a reaction that made the man chuckle wholeheartedly. Really.

Hirsch always enjoyed getting out of a general classroom setting when it came to his lesson. Always. Some lessons required a desk and chair - theoretical, you know - but this was a lesson with a heavy practical portion and putting up the chairs and desks was useless. Besides, wasn't that a bit boring?

But this reaction amused the man and he let Miss Kettleburn - who looked too excited to contain herself - answer before chiming in, "She's right, you're in the right place. Take a seat, we'll be starting very soon."

She gave him a grin before heading towards the rest of the class.

Should he be concerned that a lot of the students here were excited about bows and arrows and the possibility of shooting stuff?

Probably.

It was hard to start caring about that when the look of excitement was enough to keep that smile on his face. "Hello, Miss Darcy. I'm glad you think so. Here's hoping it lives up to your expectations." No pressure, right?

Better late than never, right?

Although stepping into the classroom today left her rather uneasy. But...at least with actual bows and arrows that meant that they would not be conjuring them, right? Her aim was likely to be better sans a wand. Hopefully.

No one stand too close to her, yeah?

"Good day, professor," the Hufflepuff said with a small smile as she found somewhere to set her bag down.

After all the level of enthusiasm with bows and arrows, it was a little unusual to see someone who looked pretty neutral at best about the objects and the setup of the room. But then again, if her defence style was anything to go by, she wasn't exactly a fighter, was she? Maybe he should've expected this reaction.

"Good morning, Miss Skeeter," he said, returning her smile with one of his own.

He checked his watch and looked at the door. Blaise would be in shortly.

"Morning Professor."

And here was another one who didn't look as enthusiastic as the others about the prospect of using bows and arrows. Huh. Maybe everyone here didn't have a fighting side about them. Still, it would be interesting to see what they made of the plans he'd made.

"Good morning, Mr Moore." Try not to talk too much during this lesson, okay?

"Morning Professor." He all but chirped. "I'm absolutely looking forward to this lesson today. You're the real MVP, Sir, and don't you forget it."Did the Gryffindor seem really chipper today as he came to a stop by his cousin. Yes yes, it was a good day indeed.

Blaise sunk to the cushion by their feet, tugging Bentley down with him.

"You up for a friendly little wager?" Which...for them....technically wasn't all that friendly but, y'know. The competitive nature of a Gryffindor was never to be underestimated.

Ah, yes. He should've expected Mr Bellaire to step in after Mr Moore. With the amount of times he'd seen the two hanging out together, he almost thought they were attached at the hip.

............. Uh.

This was...... a little enthusiastic, to say the least. Not that there was anything wrong with that but the man wasn't expecting that kind of reaction to his setup, especially considering what had happened during another one of his lessons. He half expected to be ignored for the rest of eternity but no. He was an MVP, apparently.

"I, uh....." Hirsch took a dramatic pause to push his glasses further up his nose. "That's very nice of you to say, Mr Bellaire. Thank you. I'm glad you're looking forward to this lesson." Really. Even if the boy didn't know what was going to happen just yet.

And he was going to pretend that he didn't hear the word 'wager'. Nope. Blissfully ignorant, he was.

Zeke Browne not turning up to a Defence lesson was unheard of. It just didn't happen. It was about as likely as Hirsch claiming that he hated Defence and tattoos and wanted to be a circus dancer.

Which, you know, wasn't going to happen.

At the sight of the Gryffindor, the Defence Professor's face broke into a wider smile and he gave the boy a nod of his head. "Good morning, Zeke. I see you've ditched the breakfast bun." Inside joke.

Watching her step and making her way around towards where Hirsch was standing she smiled in greeting. "Hello, Professor," she spoke quietly glancing around a brief moment before selecting the first empty mat that was on the floor. Sitting herself down she cross her legs underneath herself allowing her bag to slide off her shoulder and onto the floor at her side.

It was then in the moment of silence while waiting for the start of the lesson that she took in everything else that was set up.

And here was another student he always expected to see during his lessons. Sure, it was essential for her NEWTs but there was a certain level of dedication there and he was glad that she was keeping up with it. "Good morning, Hady."

If she was here, Frankie shouldn't be too far behind, should he?

Tick......... tock...... tick...... tock.......

Hirsch's eyes flicked from his watched and up at the door, trying to see if there was anyone else ready to amble in in an attempt to look cool or rush in because they overslept. When it didn't look like anyone else was coming in, the man took out his wand and gave it a flick. At once, the door swung shut with a loud SNAP!

Ah! Time to begin!

"Right!" he said, clapping his hands once to gain everyone's attention, "Welcome to another Defence Against the Dark Arts lesson. Before we get into the bulk of this lesson, I have to warn you that it might be a bit....... dark." Duh. "Darker than usual. And a little violent, too. If anyone feels uncomfortable, you can sit out." He hoped no one would because this was Defence Against the Dark Arts and dark subjects were to be expected but you never knew.

"The Dark Arts themselves are a general term that contains a number of different types of magic that's considered to be dark. You have dark creatures, dark objects, dark spells, enchantments and potions, even simple spells or objects used in a dark means." Not necessarily evil, mind you. "Today, we're going to be talking about one of those branches of dark magic that's generally considered to be very dark. You don't want to be caught practising this for any reason whatsoever."

Pause.

"So, what can everyone tell me about necromancy? What is your understanding of it? Why is it dark? Have there been any known uses of necromancy?" Really, anything they knew would do.

OOC: EEEEEEE HAI The question's pretty simple but PLEASE try and say something different to what the others have said. And Hirsch wants your charries's interpretation/understanding of it, not a textbook answer.
I'm going to move things on by tomorrow late-evening GMT, depending on when I get back.

Class has already begun but you're mooooore than welcome to jump in if you haven't done so already. Just pretend as if you/your charrie have been here the whole time, okay? ^^
