'...but we will be using all the space today, so it had to be open.'

"YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES!!!!" Matt raised both his fists and he jumped up and down because he wasn't sitting down yet and BECAUSE... SPACE! He loved SPACE. LOTS of it.

'...From entertainment to defending yourself. That is what this class is all about. Today's lesson is exactly that'

Oh! "YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES!!!!" The boy repeated the exact same actions as before as he yelled again. MAN, this was going to be FUN! YAS!

Now, the professor has asked a question. Matt, still standing, raised his hand before blurting out the first thing that he could envision himself doing. "I'd use DEPULSO!!" ...That other boy said the Banishing Charm too, so there we are. HE WASN'T ALONE!

Miranda thought for moment then raised her hand and gave a simp[le answer, " sir... I'd use repellio.... to repel anything harmful" she thought it was the simplest yet most effective means needed for the hypothetical situation....

Kitty's answer was fairly similar to what many of her fellow classmates had said. "I would use a bubble head charm, sir," she said after she raised her hand. "I mean, that's the one I would like to know if something like that happened. My bubble head charm is not really as good as I would like it to be, but ideally that would be the one I would want to use." Were they going to be studying bubble head charms today? That would be fun.

So this was different from what they usually did in Charms class, but Esme was going to roll with it because why not. Sounded like fun though she wasn't nearly as enthused as the young boy who was yelling and jumping up and down. SNORT.

Anyway.

Raising her hand, she said, "I would use a Bubble Head Charm like others have mentioned to keep my head protected. On top of that I'd use a Repelling Charm to protect the rest of my body." Yep. Better to use more precaution than not enough in her opinion.

Dangerous gasses? That really did not sound good at all. Now Hattie agreed with everyone that the bubble head charm was a good idea. But a lot of people had said that and she really did not want to sound like a broken record. So she was going to try and think of another spell that would be useful. Because there had to be more than one that would be useful.

Now. A bubble head charm would stop the gasses getting to you, but it would't really stop the object bringing the gases from getting to you. So that was where she was going to go from. "You could use the Depulso charm. So that you make the object fly away." Which would help with it not coming closer.

Alriiiiiiiiiight. Genny was openly, seemingly, obviously happy today- practically bouncing on the balls of her feet. This was more like a DADA session which she approved of so much. The empty class was refreshing and made her feel relaxed. As soon as the professor started talking, the Gryffindor willed herself to stand still and listen to him and the first question he shot at them.

"The banishing spell is the first thing that comes onto my mind..." Genny agreed with some of her classmates with a tentative hand raise. Although gases traveled a long way even with the banishing spell to the object carrying them.

Dangerous gases flying towards you ??? Why would that happen when the professor had just said nothing in this room would harm them; oh he was talking about in reality if faced with that. Everyone seemed to be going with depulso or bubblehead charms which in truth made a whole lot of sense. But Skylar wasn't one to really repeat and though her knowledge was limited she still strived to be an original, so she thought on other charms she knew and which ones might be effective.

"Surely there is an air quality charm, professor? To improve the air quality around you... And dissipate the gasses. Though perhaps the levitation charm would be effective in levitating the gasses away from you?" Sky suggested her opinion upon raising her hand.

Nothing in this room would harm them? That was something that should have gone without saying. Yet... here they were. Jaemin made a face at the reassurances, not actually very reassured. Especially given the follow-up question. This wasn't defense class. He was very much not in the mood for defending himself from things. However, he did have an answer for this.

"Set it on fire," he said, the words guileless and matter-of-fact, his expression carefully innocent. "I believe that one is Incendio."

Mmhmm.

He didn't say they couldn't sit. So Dante did just that and just listened. He did not really care to listen that much unless asked to participate. Which good luck with how many people here. Plus any answer he would come up with was said already. Why do the extra work of saying something already said. Plus he did not say what type of object or what type of gas. So bubblehead charm might not be the best option. Depending on what it was.

Oh well its not like they were going to be dealing with anything dangerous here. He just said so.

Shame.

Soooo, they would be having an interesting lesson. Janelle didn't doubt that for a minute. The empty room let her know that this would not be an ordinary, run of the mill Charms class. When Professor Primeaux let the class know that nothing today would harm them, it was reassuring. Anything was possible at Hogwarts, so knowing that ahead of time was a good thing.

The thought of dangerous gasses coming toward her did not exactly comfort Janelle. The professor's previous comments did help though. As for his question, she thought of the same answer as most of her classmates. That made her think that the obvious answer might not be the correct one. For that reason, she took a few moment to think some more.

Finally, Janelle raised her hand. Unable to come up with an innovative answer, she went with her first choice.......reluctantly. "I would use the Bubble-head charm too.......as my first choice" Maybe she could think of her second choice before this conversation was over.

What spell? Dangerous gases? Was this a trick? Dot wrinkled her nose and listened carefully as her classmates decided to trap their heads in a bubble full of poisonous gas air. That was stupid.

"A shield charm should provide enough time to escape to a safer space, I suppose, although it depends on the object. The charm would bounce away a physical object, but it is permeable by liquids and gas, right?"

Fiyero blinked dumbly. Was that what they were doing to be doing today? Dodging balls of poisonous gasses? Was this Defense Against the Dark Arts class now? Not that he minded, of course; it just seemed a little odd...

He thought about the question for a minute. What about a vanishing spell? You know, poof the gas ball away. But was that actually a charm? He thought it was a transfiguration spell... probably not the thing Professor Primeaux was looking for. He decided to go with a safer answer, "I'd use a banishing charm, sir," he said after raising his hand. Not the most original answer, he knew... but at least it was something.

Well, that was an interesting question, and the students had different inputs regarding the spells they were going to use. Even Vivian had nothing much in mind about the topic, reallt. What did Primeaux have to expect from a first year, anyway? She was here to learn, after all.

The blonde raised her hand. "I'd use a spell that made the gas less dangerous or maybe make it smell of roses or anything floral, if there is such thing, Professor!" But the bubble-head charm and the shield charm worked too. But hey, it was her opinion, anyway.

The answers started to come as the students raised their hand. Julien turned to the black board and flicked it wand to every answer that was given. The class seemed to be on their toes today, which was good. They would need that later on.


"All of these are great answers. Most of these you could use in a situation if you know exactly what you are working with, but sometimes you do not. As Prefect Wojack just stated if the poison is gasses the shield charm might not hold up to it depending on the solid, liquid, or gas." He glanced at the young first year, "Vivian has a great thought process as well. Is there a charm that could do that?" He was leaving that up for the class to think about.


For now though he walked to the board and circled two words, "Today we are going to focus on two different charms. Protego and Viseo Ebullio." The shield charm and bubble-head charm were going to be fun, they would see. "We are going to start with the shield charm. It is easiest to work with. I want to you go ahead and practice the charm. Once you feel you are ready. I want you to pair up and practice with others. Someone can try immobulous on you and the other can shield it. Then you switch. I'm around if you need help as well." He looked around counting in his head to make sure there were enough for what he had in store for them, yes this should work out nicely. "Alright everyone up, go ahead and get started."

Ooh. They were getting to practice two spells today? That was so cool. Harriet was really interested in getting to learn more spells, so she really was excited. She wanted to know as many spells as she could. Of course she realized that she was only a first year and couldn't know everything, but there was no harm in trying. She had big boots to fill in both of her siblings, so she was going to try her very best.

Now. She had done the Protego charm a few times, having practiced it for the duelling club. But a bit of practice never hurt anyone! So time to practice. She wanted to practice the spell a little, before pairing up. She wanted to make sure she could do the spell properly, so that she didn't embarrass herself.

Concentrating, she began practicing the charm, beginning with trying out the wand movement. This was what she did when she was trying to learn a spell. She practiced the wand movement for a few more moments, before moving onto the incantation. "Protego..." She blonde murmured quietly, so that she didn't disturb anyone else. "Protego" She murmured again, wanting to make sure she was saying it right.

Once she was confident that she had got it right, she began practicing the wand movement, and incantation together.

Bubblehead Charms.
Protego.

Those were good charms. Noelle had looked around the classroom when Professor had started talking about nothing in here would hurt you. That made her hair stand on edge because she was sure this was going to be a test. Then he mentioned gases and was telling them to practice the spells. Noelle was already pretty decent with the protego spell. She trained in the training room with the dummy. Plus the dueling club. The bubble head charm though, she wasnt as good at. Well, she hadnt done yet.

But..... the muggle side of Noelle was screaming about water. using Aquamenti. (sp?). The water would disperse any gases. She'd seen it before when her father used it on the crops. Another farmer had sprayed his farm and had sent the fumes over to his crops. He had used the water to disperse the gases. No crops had died that day.

But they were starting with Protego. Okay.
"Protego!" Noelle called out. She'd done the spell before so she knew she could do it. She smiled because it felt good to be decent at something.

Protego and the Bubblehead Charm. One spell she had a lot of practice with, and the other she hadn't used before but was pleased to be adding to her arsenal.

Even though she didn't have any problems with casting a shield - especially after being a part of the Dueling Club for a couple terms - Professor Primeaux had asked them to do some practicing before things got officially started and she was not one to disobey. Besides, more practice never hurt anyone; in fact it was GOOD and something that she would be doing a lot of next term before OWLs. Not wanting to focus on exams, she instead turned her attention on what she wanted to do.

"Protego," she said a few times while feeling fully confident that she was saying things correctly. At least they were starting off easy because the next spell was going to be a lot more difficult for her. Esme smiled and then made some vertical slashes through the air using her wand.

YESSSSS They were going to use the Bubblehead charm, something Azura had wanted to learn for awhile, sadly it wouldn't help her nose issue when she fell.. But it looked cool and could protect you.. So.. there was that..

And Protego! She loved the spell, she know how to do it of course because of dueling, but it never hurt to practice spells.. The teen loved doing magic and so any chance she got to use it, she was going to take it.

She stood up from her place against the back of the room against the wall and moved out a bit to give herself some room to practice.

She put her long raven hair up in a ponytail before getting her wand out and practicing the movement and the pronunciation for the shield charm..

"Protego!" She said with a smile.. Yeah.. She knew this spell.. So problem..

Ah, so they were going to work on two spells today. That would be fun and Skylar just hoped that they wouldn't be too complicated. Protego; the shield charm shouldn't be too difficult except that there were varying strengths of shield charms and she'd guess that hers wouldn't be as strong as a seventh years. But the more she would practice the better it would get, right? Hopefully.

Not holding her wand, Sky took a moment to practice saying the incantation first. "Protego. Protego." And then picking up her wand, the young snakette practiced the appropriate wand movement a couple times, before adding in a "Protego," as she did the wand movement another time. Okay, she was ready to practice it against someone else....

She glanced around for anyone who looked ready to practice, preferably a first or second year...

There wasn't exactly any more need for practicing a shield so Esme felt that it was time for her to choose a partner and go against them. Her first instinct was to choose her sister, but she was trying to branch out a little bit and work with her other friends as well. Juno knew how much she was loved and this didn't change anything. At least she wasn't instinctively trying to do everything herself?

Eyes finding her cousin, she smiled. "Hey, Skylar. Do you want to work together?" Even though Esme was older it wasn't exactly like she would go hard on the other girl. Not only was that mean in general, but they were family.

In her own personal opinion, Brooklyn thought that only Hady had been on the right track when it came to the question. Vanishing the object should have been the best plan, instead of waiting for it to hit her which is what using Protego and a bubblehead charm meant. But then, she figured it had been inevitable that they’d have an easy lesson one of these days. Either way, now she was stuck practicing a charm she’d figured she had down ages ago. It was tempting to just remain sitting by the window, but there was still the charms challenge going on and she didn’t want this lesson to affect her standings with that.

Standing up, she let her wand slip into her hand and she readied her grip. She’d practice if she had to. “Protego,” she cast, moving her wand in the familiar movement and ending the spell as soon as the shield appeared. Somehow there had to be a way to make things more difficult, and her conversation with Hugo in the library ages ago came back to her. Nonverbals. That was a challenge. She got ready to cast again and tried to accomplish it nonverbally. A shield still appeared, but it was definitely fainter.

About to turn to a first year she was comfortable with, Skylar did a double-take at hearing her name but then smiled when she recognized it to be an older cousin. She'd almost forgotten about the Darcy twins being at Hogwarts and for a split second she reminisced on had the sorting hat sorted her with Hattie and two other cousins and her parents house, how different her first year might have played out. But then she realized she probably wouldn't have branched out as much as she had with meeting new people.... And being outside her comfort zone. Even if her father was still peeved about her being green she was pretty sure she hadn't even seen most of the wrath thanks to her mother.

Enough reminiscing though; Sky realized Esme had probably been standing there waiting for her longer than it should have taken her to respond. "Oh hey Esme! Yes of course ... But uh , can I do the shield charm cause I'm not sure about immobulous and it might be best to see you perform it first?" Just being honest here.

Juno got right to practicing, even though she knew this spell very well. It was a basic spell used in protecting yourself in duel training. Her father had basically ingrained it into her head. It was the easiest spell to cast.

"Protego!" She said to herself over and over. She felt the rush of a magical shield coming into existence each time she cast it. She was excited to practice the bubble head charm. It was so funny looking when other people used it on themselves.

It was classes like this that made Kaycee wonder what people raised in the magical world dealt with. Seriously. What kind of hypothetical question was this? Who was throwing this poison at her? Why? What had she done to deserve this type of question?!

But she knew protego well. So... apparently she's surviving this hypothetical attack. That was cool.

The prefect got up and stretched before looking around. Who wanted to partner up?

Azura knew the shield spell well enjoy that after one practice she was good to go. Her purple eyes slowly scanned the room as she wondered who she should partner up with.. And her eyes landed on Juno! Esme's twin sister.

Azura hadn't talked to her much this year and she knew the girl was a good dueler and would be a good and challenging partner.

So Az wove her way through the other kids in the class towards the blonde and tapped her on the shoulder..

"Hey Juno. " She said with a warm smile. "Would you like to be partners? " She asked the other girl.
