Arista made it into the Charms classroom in less then a minute, she had woken up late forgetting that she had class. She wasn't sure why she forgot but she did and she had woken up ten minutes before class started so she had quickly thrown on her clothes and in seven minutes she was leaving the common room and running up stairs to get to the classroom.

She quietly walked into the Charms room only to stop in her tracks, um where was the Professor?? She sat down and looked at the bored what does it say.. Just then a voice started speaking...UM WHERE WHAT!!?? She took a breath it sounded like the Professor but where was he? Test!! UGHGHGHGH!!! Looking at the bored Okay sounded easy enough, the spell was an easy spell. She had learned it in her first year. She wrote down the steps in her journal for safe keeping.

She took out her wand from the holster and pointed it at the cabinet and said “Alohomora,” With a click it was unlocked the redhead reached in and grabbed the small box. Smiling she set it down and looked around was anyone here that she knew? Hmmm did anyone need help as well? She liked helping people.. After setting the small box down she pushed the cabinet door closed. Seeing someone next to her in need of help since she couldn't get the door open.

"Hey I'm Arista, can I help you out?" If he didn't want it that would be cool as well.

While he wasn't sure whether or not it was directed at him or not, Jasper still spun around finding an older girl standing where the voice had come from. She was looking at him, so that was probably a good start.

Help?

Yes.

He wanted needed that.

"Um... yeah, I mean, yes please," he tried to correct himself. The rambling didn't help much with actually sounding intelligent. "I'm Jasper."

Alright. Introduction was out of the way.

"I can't really... well... get it to do anything," Jasper explained to Arista, glaring at the cabinet in front of him. To prove a point, he pointed his wand at it, once again repeating "Alohomora".

Nothing... again.

Haddie reached up and rubs the sauce off where Rachel indicated. "Tomato sauce actually. Probably got some mashed potatoes and chocolate pudding I missed somewhere too. What? I was in hurry." She turned back to her cabinet and aimed her wand. "Libraries are fun. Colloportus!" Click.

5, 4, 3, 2, 1.... no? Longer then? Click. There it is!

"Colloportus!" Click.

Haddie perked up. Was it actually going to stick this time? Stay locked? Yes?

Click. Nope. "Colloportus!" Click.





Click.

"Okay, I'm doing it, right? It's locking. It just won't stay locked." She glanced around. There was an older girl (Hady) who performed both spells easily. And her cabinet actually stayed locked. Good enough for Haddie.

The first year Ravenclaw marched over to the older girl and tapped her on the shoulder. "How do you get it to stay locked?"

Turning the box over again in her hand Hady continued to examine it. All that was left was opening this here box and getting the combination of numbers that was supposed to be inside. It sounded easy enough given the fact that she was able to lock and unlock the cabinet with no trouble.

Hady was snapped into attention by the sound of glass breaking. Her head snapped up and her eyes sought out the source of the sound. A cabinet had its glass broken. From the looks of it a younger boy had done it to get the box inside. He could've just asked for help or sonething surely the Professor wouldn't appreciate the noise. Without any thought of what she was doing she walked towards Daxton stopping near him but far enough away to give space between them. "Are you alright? You didn't cut yourself with the glass did you?" If he had there would've been blood but it was worth asking anyhow.

Speaking of people getting hurt...Hady pointed her wand at the cabinet and preformed the wand work while casting a very confident, "Reparo!" There that should do.

Before she could get back to her own box test there was a tap to her shoulder. Making what stay locked? Turning around to face the younger girl (Haddie) she gave her a questioning look. Lock. Lock. Oh the cabinet! "If it's locking then you're certainly casting the charm properly. Just try saying it with more intent. Tell it what you want it to do, don't ask it. Picture it locking and staying Locke in your head." That made sense, yes?

After a few moments Brady was still glaring at this stupid box that wouldn't open.

What was going on? Why was this happening? Okay, he had to calm down but he felt that breaking the box would be a better thing to do. The doors would open. Maybe that wasn't the best idea in the world. The first year kept glaring at the box. He took a deep breath in and let it out slowly. He just had to relax and calm down BUT THIS WAS TEST! He wasn't ready for this kind of stuff yet.

Let's give it another go. "Alo-ho-mora." He pronounced it again. Now for one last time. "Alo-ho-mora." He said a little slower. Okay, now he would have to try this again. Hopefully it would open. "Alohomora." he said again with his wand pointed at the box. IT WORKED! FINALLY!!

Bradson looked back up at the directions to see what he had to do next.

A test?! A test in the very first class?! Jaemin stood, blinking rapidly, off to one side of the room; magic school was quickly proving to be the most confusing experience yet to happen in his life. This was backwards, Teacher Person! Backwards!!

Still, the small boy nudged his way by other students, getting closer to the board to squint at it suspiciously. The spells were two he knew well enough in passing, especially the latter; when younger, he'd had a bit of a habit of not knocking on the bathroom door before bursting through it, and after it happened more than a dozen times his parents had taken to yelling "Colloportus" upon hearing his approaching steps.

It had fixed the habit, and had helped facilitate his losing a few already loose teeth.

Still, knowledge in passing was still a far cry from practical application, and Jay was rather unsure of how this would go. The uncertainty wouldn't stop him from trying though, and the small Slytherin found himself one of the cabinets as of yet unoccupied. He stood in front of it silently, gaze straying from the cabinet to the other students nearby.

Without saying the spell, he moved his wand in the same pattern as an older girl nearby. She surely had a decent handle on what she was doing, right? He swished and flicked, swished and flicked. It wasn't terribly difficult...

"You're gonna open," he whispered to the cabinet, pointing his wand at it almost threateningly. "Got it?"

He swished and flicked. "Alohomra."

...aaaaand nothing happened. The small boy stared at the cabinet, an almost alarming amount of contempt on his eleven year old face. RUDE.

Spencer FINALLY made it to Charms class, man Hogwarts was a big castle, he could see how people could easily get lost in it! Spencer couldn't believe it was the first class of the year, he was beyond excited to finally being able to use magic again, of course he used it to clean the whole Great Hall with his fellow Gryffindors but it wasn't as fun as this will be. Spencer walked into the classroom and found a empty seat and sat down taking out his books and wand and setting them neatly on his desk. Spencer looked at the board. 'Well...can't be that hard can it?'Spencer thought to himself. He grabbed his wand he said. "Alohomora!".


Nothing happened, maybe he was saying it wrong, "Alo-ho-mora."said Spencer reading how to say it on the board. Ok... lets give this another go, maybe he also wasn't moving his wand the right way, so many possibilities of what he did wrong. "Alohomora."said Spencer. The lock rattled but it didn't unlock so he had to be close right? But he wasn't going to give up until he gotten it unlock. 'You got this Spence, just try again! "'he thought to himself giving it another go.

"Alohomora."said Spencer in a stern voice swishing and flicking his wand. With a click, the cabinet opened as Spencer jumped a bit at the sound of it. He did it, he actually did it! He did his first spell right!

Charms Charms Charms.

This hadn't been Davie's best class last term, not by any stretch of the mind, but it hadn't been his worst class last term either. He was determined to get much better this year, so he could use his Charms in duels and stuff, and wellp, he was ready for a test of his skills.

Plus, these spells were easy.

PLUS, the professor wasn't even technically here to watch them. So Davie felt a bit more relaxed and under less pressure already. Some people weren't comfortable with pop quizzes, but David understood that this test was really a way for the professor to suss out their abilities. Some firsties came to school already knowing stuff, both theoretical and practical. Some came in knowing nothing, and not even knowing like, TEAMWORK. Some came in... and then quickly left, like Char's brother.

Frowning as the door shut behind Callum, David hesitated. Should he go after him, or should he practice his spells first and then go after him, or should he just ignore the first year altogether? He could be, like, just angrily storming off to go use the restroom, after all....

Olly bounded forward a few steps forward toward his now unlocked cabinet. He opened the door and pulled out the small box that was concealed inside. Now that was settled, he closed the door and backed up again with the box still in his hand. A loud noise startled him, and caused him to look around for the source. Not far away was a second year Ravenclaw he vaguely recognized, who had just shattered his cabinet instead of using magic to open it. Olly grinned, but quickly refocused on his cabinet.

Why did they have to lock it again? It wasn't like there was anything left in there. Olly didn't think he should have to do something if there wasn't any real point to it. Sure, it was a test or whatever. But what was the point? He would do it anyway, though, because those were the instructions whether he agreed with them or not. So he gripped the box in one hand and held out the one holding his wand.

"Colloportus." Olly had never tried to lock something before, but it couldn't be any more complicated the the unlocking of the things. Except, there wasn't a noise so he didn't know if it had worked. He walked up and tugged on the handle. The door didn't budge, meaning he must have succeeded in locking it.

So, exactly how was this number code kept inside the box? On parchment? Carved into the bottom of the box on the inside? Daxton only hoped it would not jump out of him, accompanied with glitter and confetti or anything like that, but one could never be sure. He tried to pry it open sans magic, just to make sure this was not a test to make sure they were checking all the obvious answers (it was not), then held the box by his ear and gave it a good shake, to see what he could hear.

Not that that would help him get into it. Daxton was fully aware that the Unlocking Charm would likely be the only way of getting inside... unless he found a way to destroy this, too? Alas, he had no hammer. Maybe a heavy textbook, dropped onto it from as high as he could reach?

The Ravenclaw was struck by a sudden idea, and surveyed the room once again. But before he could find what he was looking for, he noticed an older student approach, and he blinked at her. Frowning, mostly in confusion, Daxton only shook his head in response to her latter question, despite being visibly fine, and watched as the older girl (Lynch? Was that her name? Daxton thought it might be) fixed the glass. He had not asked her too, and it was sort of annoying in that so many older students just thrust their assistance at him regardless of what he wanted, asked for, or accepted... but now his cabinet looked exactly like those of the students that had followed the instructions exactly. This had all worked out quite well for Daxton.

He continued watching the girl even as she turned to help another student, considering he carefully. After a moment, Daxton decided against using her for his plan, in case it gave her the impression that he appreciated or required her help. Instead, he scanned the other students in the immediate vicinity, fiddling with the box in his hands, looking for something in particular. And waiting... waiting for the right moment...

A test?

OHMYGOSH. How could she have a test already? It was just the first lesson of the year. Katerina was almost at a freak out melt down. She hadn't studied yet. Yes, she was a Pureblood and knew incantations, and the wand movements kind of not like she had done it herself before. Seeing her mother and father both do magic and even Phillip. But her herself doing her own magic, well that was different. Reading over the directions again she got straight to work.

She was actually going to do magic for lesson purposes. She took her wand from the holtser. "Alohomora. Alohomora." She said out loud. Not using her wand yet. She was not ready for that. Her blue eyes looked around. She took a step toward the cabinet, tapped the end of her wand on the cabinet. She did this a few times. Once she decided she was ready she cleared her throat. "Alohomora. Alohomora. Al..o.. hom...ora." Tap, tap poke. Maybe the wand movement was a poke instead of a tap.

Sigh. Nothing. She was definitely going to need help here.

Even though she had JUST looked away from Daxton, Maggie's eyes were soon fixed on the Ravenclaw again. Like...what was he doing? It was effective, clearly. Like, he'd gotten the box out of the cabinet and all. Interesting way of doing things. When Hady approached the boy, Maggie decided that there were more important things to consider herself with, though.

Like that box.

With a sigh – this was a rather boring lesson so far to be honest – Maggie set the box down on the floor in front of her. She then took a few steps back (who knew what was IN that box besides the number code after all) and waved her wand at it. "Alohomora!" There. No big deal.

Azura was nearly beside herself with happiness! She couldn't believe that she had done it on her first time, and her purple eyes were bright with happiness and excitement! She did refrain from hugging the older boy though!

She nodded "Yes, I think that is the next part.. opening the chest." The smaller Ravenclaw also checked the board before paying careful attention to her older friend.

"Alo HO mora.. Got it." Azura repeated the spell to herself. She had done it the first time, but she wasn't sure if that was a fluke or not!!

Her purple eyes were fixed on Austin as he took the box and held onto it.. and then opened it with the spell!!

"Okay, I think I've got it!" She hoped at least! She held her box in her left hand and then with her right held her wand, pointed it at the box and then..

"Alohomora! She said and her purple eyes went wide as it worked again!!! "EEEEEEE!!! It worked again!! Thank you Austin!!" She was almost tempted to hug him again! But instead she just jumped happily around and then she spotted Jasper! She shot him a smile that could have lit a thousand lighthouses! She was that happy!

Yeah alright, logical though he may be, David was also half Hufflepuff by birth, because it's a thing and was not about to let his BFF's brother miss out on his first ever Charms class. He KNEW the Kettleburns. He KNEW how good Mrs. Kettleburn was at Charms, and at being nice to people and serving them good tea and biscuits, and how Callum was always hanging around and being nice and stuff too, and so he KNEW Callum really wanted to learn. Something had to be up with the younger Gryffindor, and so in temporary forfeit of anything he might learn from this lesson, David Truebridge left Charms too to go find Callum and help him learn.

That was pretty much the point of the lesson, right? For everyone to learn? Regardless of ability, they could still learn SOMETHING from this class?!

Wide eyed, Lincoln looked around at the other students. Some were exhibiting what he was feeling: panic. A test on the first day? Who did things like that? Apparently this professor did. Lincoln took a deep breath, just like Pem always told him. He could do this, it wasn't like if he failed he got kicked out of school...or at least he hoped so.

Turning to a cabinet Lincoln took another deep breath and looked at his wand. Well, here we go. He thought to himself. Alohomora! He waved his wand just like he thought he was supposed to.

Nothing happened. Tapping his wand against his chin he focused his eyes on the cabinet. If he became one with the cabinet, it would surely open on his next attempt. Okay. Alohomora! Lincoln tried again.

Once again, there was no response.

Robin looked around nervously. She was near the door, in case she needed to make a run for it. So many of the students were very...tall. She gulped until she saw a boy who looked her age. He seemed to be glancing at an older girl. She stood next to him and looked toward the direction he was glancing, obviously copying her movements. Smart move, she had no idea what she was doing. How was she supposed to take this test when she had no idea how magic even worked yet? She copied the boy's movements
"Alahamora!"
Was it her imagination or did it jiggle a bit? But...still locked. SHe looked nervously at the boy next to her.
"Do you know...how to do, um, well, any of this? I'm lost"

Olivia continued to practice the incantation and simple wand movement over and over again before feeling satisfied. Her attention then trailed back to the cabinets that lined the walls all around the room, particularly the ones closest to her. There was still at least one that hadn’t been opened as of yet so the young Ravenclaw claimed that as her own and moved closer to be looking right at it. “Please open little cabinet…” she mused as she raised her wand to try it for real.

“Alohomora!”

Nothing.

No sparks…no light…no effect at all.

“Alohomora!” she cast again against the locked cabinet with the same result. Okay so maybe she wasn’t going to have beginner’s luck on this one. Of course the wandmaker had warned her. Had said her Acacia wood wand wasn’t going to be an easy one to master and thus her learning required more effort. More focus. More work in general. Olivia stared at the cabinet as if trying to will it open that way before expelling the air she had been holding.

Didn’t mean she couldn’t get this.

“Alohomora!”

Nope.

Unsurprisingly, Daxton's eyes found Magdalena Traulton, if for no other reason than she had exactly the kind of hair that he found captivating. Hair... something about hair had Daxton near obsessed, so naturally, anyone with what he considered good hair, interesting hair, they grabbed his attention automatically. It helped, too, that she was standing very close by. In fact... a near perfect distance for what Daxton was after, and of an age where her spell would likely be successful first try.

Daxton watched her as she held her wand up to her own box, retrieved from her cabinet no doubt using functional spellwork, and waited to see if... yes, there it was. She was casting the spell.

At the very last moment, Daxton quickly stepped forward and shoved his box into the path of Magdalena Traulton's spell, between her own box and the wand tip. It was tricky, lining it up right and stopping at the correct moment, to ensure that the Slytherin girl did not end up 'unlocking' the bones in his wrist, but Daxton made it look easy. There came a clicking noise as his box unlocked itself, and he drew away from the Magdalena Traulton again without so much as a thank you or a glance of acknowledgement.

As it turned out, he Daxton Prince did not just stop at stealing material items. Even magic was not safe from him.

There it was. Daxton had retrieved his box from the cabinet - which now stood, locked, looking exactly as it had before he had touched it - used the Unlocking Charm to get into it (technically speaking), and now he had the required code. Success.

What..........?!!!?!?!?!

Maggie was completely unaware of the fact that Daxton was even looking at her. Let alone about to jump in front of her. Or at least shove his box in front of her. At first she didn't even realize just what had happened, a little too dumbfounded by the whole thing. Like whaaaaaaat?! What was that even-

Oooh. Durrrr!

Of course.

And then he just left.

Weird kid, seriously. But somehow also interesting. "Anytime." Maggie said, not even watching him anymore but smirking slightly. She'd briefly considered sending a Trip Jinx after him just because but then again she also felt like she kind of owed him. In a way. So there. They were even now.

Instead, Maggie once again brought her attention back to her own box. "Alohomora!" Good. This time she actually unlocked her own box and nobody chose to shove their box in her face.

Wise decision, people, very wise.

Ariadne was SO SUPER EXCITED! This was her very first Hogwarts class ever, and she was going to be amazing at it! This would be her first professor to formally meet, since the only other time she had seen one was at the feast. After walking in, she came to an abrupt halt and just stood there as she tried to figure out what to do and where to go next. No seats? Mmkay, cool! She was excited and fidgety anyway, so it was all good.

The door suddenly shut, and the echoing voice of the professor could be heard throughout the room. Whoa, whoa, whoaaaa WAIT. They were having a test today?! But...but...but... Ariadne was suddenly glad her mom had homeschooled her before she got to Hogwarts. Granted she'd never cast magic at home, but she had at least watched her mom with demonstrations.

...but would that even help her now?

Ariadne turned her attention to the directions and re-read them.



Mmkay. So first she had to unlock the glass cabinet before her. She turned to stare at it like she thought it might suddenly open on its own. It didn't. DUH, Ariadne. She sat down on the floor in front of the cabinet and pulled her textbook out her bag. There had to be an explanation on how to do this somewhere in the book...

He really wasn't interested in helping every singly firstie master every single charm that was required of them at the minute (cause there were SO many, right? ha). No, all he wanted to do, was get in his box, get the code, and get in the next room. It wasn't a race, per se, but he liked being among the first few.

Holding his box at arms length, Zeke pointed his wand at it's seams. "Alohamora," he cast for the second time this lesson, and sure enough....

CLICK.

Looking up to see how some of the others were progressing, Zeke's gaze landed on Maggie... unlocking another guys box. Well then. She didn't want to unlock his? Pity. Although, on further inspection it hadn't been intentional, seeing as the weird Ravenclaw dashed away with barely an acknowledgement.

Righto then.

Well, this was different. Normally, Thornton would just go through the task as assigned, on his own. He was usually a solitary worker but, well, someone had to help the firsties, who would have little to no idea what to do, and he supposed he had an obligation.

Perhaps he could just let them... watch how he did it and that would be instruction enough? While he pondered this, however, he nearly tripped over a young snake who was paging through her book.

"I could show you, if you'd like," he offered, holding his wand in his hand. "It's simple once you get the hang of it."

And as if to prove his point, he waved his wand at the cabinet. "Alohomora." And with a click, the cabinet was open.

Haddie scoffed and rolled her eyes. "Uh huh, yep. Yeah. That's what I've been doing. Exactly. A lot." She sighed. Old people! Always think it's because you're not doing the simplest things. Every time. "Here, see." She grabbed the older Slytherin girl's hand and dragged her along to the cabinet Haddie was using.

"Stand here." She positioned the girl by the shoulders. "Watch." Haddie turned back to the cabinet, raised her wand and checked to make sure the Slytherin was watching. "Colloportus!" Her voice was filled with the same confidence that was quickly becoming her signature. Click. She tugged on the cabinet door, showing it was locked. "See, it works." Haddie folded her arms and waited a moment. "Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, " she gasped, "aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa," Click, "aaaaand there it is." A quick tug on the door and it popped open. "See?"

She paused, then tried again, this time to illustrate that even keeping her mind on it staying locked didn't seem to work. Haddie aimed her wand again and closed her eyes. A simple lock appeared in her mind, locked tightly and staying that way. "Colloportus!" Click. She kept her eyes closed, kept that imagine of a lock staying forever locked, never unlocking, never budging, just remaining locked and... "Click.

Haddie sighed, turned to her tutor and shrugged. "So now what?"

Oh! He didn't see Rachel there for a moment! "Hey Rachel, you're doing great...very good!" he complimented her, giving her a thumbs up. It was nice to see llia giving the first year a hand with the spells but he wasn't going to come in between their umm..whatever those two ill feelings towards each other. For now, he took a step back and began examining his box. He tried to pry open it but it didn't work. Another Alohamora spell would do the trick?

"Alohamora," Henric cast again, more easily this time. Immediately, the box unlocked by itself. Brilliant! Nicely done, Henric! Now to find out what was exactly inside it, he opened the lid to reveal a small parchment. There were something written on it too, could this be a code of somekind? Hmm...

He glanced back up again to see if anyone needed his help unlocking their glass cabinet. Henric saw Brady, across the room from him and wondered if that first year knew of the spell?...Wait. Pfft. Why did he care? The boy certainly wouldn't want his help anyway. He wasn't the only 'troubled' younger kid who hated his guts, y'know. Henric had nothing to lose, he rather helped someone who really wanted his help and he would do it graciously without asking nothing in return. Besides, that brat was doing well enough on his own. He noticed another first year(Ariadne) seemed to have trouble with the spell. Good thing prefect Thornton got to her. "Hi, do any of you need help with the spell?" to anyone really...

Ariadne sighed as she overheard somebody talking in the background. Some lucky person was getting a demonstration from an older student! She wished SHE had been offered a demonstration from an older student! As she read through her book, she saw a pair of shoes directly next to her, and looked up to see an older boy looking toward her. He had been the one offering to help, and SHE was the lucky student!

Ariadne slapped her book shut and put it back in her bag. "That would be awesome!" she said, scurrying to her feet. "Thank you! I'm Ariadne Greingoth, by the way." He should know her name if he'd be helping her! That way, if she was doing something wrong and was about to cause an explosion or something, he'd know whose name to call out!

Ohh, this looked SO EASY! Ariadne could do this! She pointed her wand toward the cabinet. "Alohomora!" she said. No movement. Just an incantation. When nothing happened, she looked back at the boy with a disappointed look on her face. "Was there some kind of wand movement with that?"

One of the few spells that Kitty had learned in her first term at Hogwarts was the unlocking one, so for once she felt pretty confident in her ability to use it. She swished her wand through the air and said in a clear voice "Alohomora!" It worked! With a small click the door became unlocked, revealing the small box inside.

Smiling, Kitty took the box out and aimed her wand back at the door. This one was trickier. She had never tried to lock anything with magic. "Colloportus!" she muttered, pointing her wand back at the door. Nothing happened. "Colloportus!" She tried again, but still nothing happened. Was she waving her wand the right way? Kitty turned to observe the other students.
