Before entering the classroom you'll see a sign next to the door in noticeable letters that reads:
Rules Before Entering Charms Classroom:
- Located inside next to the door is a yellow wall. Write something you appreciate about the school, your day, someone, ect. No names or inappropriateness, please. After posting on the Positive Wall take a sticker located at the heart of the wall, and wear it on your forehead for the duration of the class.
- Trade your house tie with someone else of a different house.
After that is done, the first thing you'll notice once fully walking inside is the cool and fresh breeze. The windows are open, letting in the cooling summer air and the soft morning glow. With a gleam in her hazel eyes, Professor Astrid Baxter stands at the front of the room leaning against her desk waiting for students to arrive.
Behind her there's yet another message, this one written on the blackboard:
Welcome, students! Take a seat next to a person you have not met and please properly fill out a nametag.

Lastly, she spotted her final foam ball coming down and once agian did the sweeping wand motion towards it. "Depulso." Jet watched as the green ball made its way towards the Slytherin bin then turned around to look at the first year Slytherin.
There were many people in between them, so Jet couldn't exactly see whether he had succeeded in a new attempt, so she calmly made her way towards where he was standing, but didn't say anything; she was just going to watch for now.
Which proved to be the best decision, since he managed to do the spell right in front of her. She gave him a small smile and a head nod of approval.

Okay, time to find ANOTHER ball and stop that one in mid-air. Maybe one that would LISTEN to him, even if that was hard to tell with, well, foam--
There was someone staring at him.
BLINK.
No, someone WAS staring at him. Phillip blinked a couple of times at her, the older girl he partly recognised from.......... somewhere. There was no point in even trying to remember because the first year was bound to just hit a mental brick wall so, he stared back at her. And smiled. Hello, per--
WAIT HOLD ON.
Something was clicking in his head and so, he looked over towards the Slytherin bin and then back at her, his eyes wide. "You SAW that?!" She saw him crouching down for his life while he failed to slow a ball down. E M B A R R A S S I N G.
Uh, he was meant to be doing something, wasn't he? "Arresto Momentum!" he called, waving his wand at a ball that was approaching the other girl's head and watching it slow riiiiiiiiiiiight down to a halt. You are WELCOME, lady.

Giving the room a quick once over it was easy to that she still had some time left to get another ball in the Slytherin bin. Side stepping around a few of her fellow snakes Hady set her hazel eyes on a lone foam ball falling not to far away from her. Without a moments hesitation she raised her wand and gave it a grand sweep, "Depulso."
This time she made sure to follow the ball with the sweeping motion all the way. When it was banished into the snake's bin then did she change her focus from it. She wasn't going to get overly excited anymore, all that mattered was her accomplishment of the charm and helping out her house. Both she was doing quite well with now. If only some of the other charms she was working on outside of lessons were this easy to pick up on.

If it wasn't completely obvious, Reagan was having a blast!
Whether she missed or scored for Ravenclaw, she could be found bouncing around; cheering on her peers. The behavior wasn't very true to her house, perhaps, but stereotypes had never mattered much to her. It was all meant to be fun, anyway. Why NOT encourage each other?...Of course, the competition aspect could be fun but it had never appealed to Reagan specifically. In her experience, it really could bring the worst out in people.
So...Live. Laugh. Love...you know?
...AND SHE WAS STILL CONFUSED ABOUT THE COLORS!...but that wasn't deterring this Ravenclaw one bit! Whether they were green of blue, she was getting them into their bin. Gosh, Rea just hoped her housemates wouldn't be too sore about it...because she wasn't meaning to penalize them. Would they be...? Surely not.
Mmm, OH! Surely THAT ball was blue. It looked blue to her...Focusing with all her might, she swept her wand, as she'd been doing all class, and focused on the slowly descending foam ball. How exciting was it that she was MASTERING a non-verbal? Depulso!
Seeeeee the bin...Beeeeee the bin...
Reagan was cracking herself up.

Jet was amused at the younger boy and chuckled when he seemed to realise something. "Well done." She told him as a reply. Yes, she had been watching him.
And there was more chuckling when he 'saved' her from a foam ball that was coming towards her head. "Why, thank you." She said, stepping aside for him to be able to get the ball to place it in the bin.

Brian was pretty jubilant. Maybe the charm hadn't worked to full effect, but it had WORKED! And now he was going to try it again. With another yellow ball falling from the sky. He just hoped the actual yellow ball in the sky didn't fall because arresto momentum probably wouldn't work on the sun. Nope. But he WAS going to work on these foam balls.
Waving his wand at a random yellow ball pretty high up, he waved his wand at it and said the incantation. "Arresto momentum!" It was a lot less rushed this time, and the ball seemed to fall a lot slower. As though it was sinking in water rather than in air.
That's how it was supposed to be, right?
It made its way down to his outstretched arm soon enough and Brian ran across the room to dump it into the yellow basket. YAY. Two down. And the spell done properly this time! He was on a roll! Cue the happy dancing.

Well done.
No laughing or being rude and weird. Well. Done.
Was Phillip beaming? OF COURSE HE WAS. It was as if a huge amount of pressure had been lifted off of his shoulders, one that he didn't know was THERE in the first place. "Thanks! I didn't know you were actually watching." Weird new lady person.
Who WAS she?
There was no time to think on that now. Not when she moved aside, giving him the opportunity to LEAP up into the air and GRAB the ball. He then made a show of throwing the ball into the bin as if he was one of those muggle basketball players and he was JUST about to make THE BEST SHOT EVER. It was no slam dunk but it was A GOOD THROW.

Jet gave him a small smile and shrugged. "I wasn't exactly watching; you caught my attention." She told him truthfully; it had been his scream that made her look in his direction in the first place.
"I'm Jet, by the way." She decided to introduce herself, seeing that he was a Slytherin too.

Phillip tilted his head. He caught her attention, yeah? "I think that sounds MUCH better." At least, for him. Kinda. "Do you have to do the slowing down spell as we--"

Jet? Did she just say her name was JET?! Phillip's eyes widened and all thought about the foam balls disappeared. POOF! Because THE GIRL'S NAME WAS JET. "Like a JET PLANE?! The things that fly in the air? NEEEEEEE-AWWWWWWWWWWW!" And cue a flying aeroplane motion with his hand along with the sound.
Could he call her Jet Plane?
He was going to call her Jet Plane. It was decided.
"I'm Phillip!" Remember his name, it was a GOOD one.

Jet chuckled at the younger boy again when he said that it was much better that he caugt her attention. She knew the question he was about to ask when he was interrupted by the foam ball hitting his head, so she shook her head. "No, I'm doing a different one. Depulso." She demonstrated, doing the sweeping movement with her wand again and banishing yet another green ball into the Slytherin bin.
The fifth year had heard that reference before and even though she didn't really know what a jet plane was at first, she had now learned that it was a Muggle mean of transport. "Sure." She answered with a shrug. She raised her eyebrows, amused when the boy started making strange noises, probably sounds that jet planes made, she supposed. "Nice to meet you, Phillip. Keep up the good work." Jet gave him another nod of approval.

Sabbath was really chuffed that the boy was showing him the more advanced spell. As a first year, he knew he would have little chance of getting this demonstration from the professor. Sabbath watched the boy intently copying the wand movement alongside him, practising the incantation silently in his mind. 'Yep, he was sure he had this'.
Sabbath had decided to try out the more advanced spell for himself. He was impatient to learn everything there was to learn in this new magical world and his grandmother had always said 'Great love and great achievement always involve great risks’. "So here goes..." he murmured.
He focussed intently on the blue ball above, made a sweeping movement with his wand and said with great gusto and determination.. “Depalso”… Opa! he’d said it slightly wrong! There was a pop and small fizz of smoke emerged from the end of his wand. Sabbath was startled and stumbled backwards, dropping his wand and sprawling back on the floor. He sat there a second, his eyes wide, before realising his mouth was hanging open. He snapped it shut audibly. Blimey, how embarrassing! He scrambled to his feet and quickly scanned the classroom... had the Professor noticed?
They were doing stupendous!
Allowing the young Gryffindor comfort her housemate, Astrid kept an eye on several Ravenclaws and Slytherin. No funny business here. She wouldn't take it lightly.
Speaking of taking things lightly...
Astrid's lips fell into a firm line at what she just witnessed. "Mister Gimenez. One point from Ravenclaw. You are to cast the charms instructed by the professor." That meant her. Watching as the wisp of smoke disappeared, she added, "You could hurt your classmates if we get a little cast crazy. Do follow directions, it's for safety." That almost gave her a mini heartattack. Thank Merlin that wrongly said charm didn't hit any of the other students.
Looking up at the hour glass on her desk, Astrid clapped her hands. Once. Twice. "Alright, time is up," she announced. With waves of her wand the balls froze midair and returned back to the ceiling. "You all did a fantastic job, I'm so proud." The way they attempted focus and eye and wand level. Best first day. "As it seems, it was a really close race. In the end, Slytherin takes the win." Cheers for the Snakes. "Remember to turn in your parchments into the basket by the door, and Slytherins, come up and claim your prize. Thanks for a great lesson. Class dismissed."
Taking a box from under her desk, she opened the lid to reveal multi-colored, self inking quills.
"Oh, Mister Adair, would you please stay, I need help with something." In other words, she wanted to have a word with him.
It had to have happened sooner or later, and maybe Daxton had known it would all along, but when one of the falling foam balls (yellow this time, except Daxton did not see that) hit him right on the top of his head and bounced right off, he started in surprise and drew back to the wall again. He was unable to remember just when he'd stepped so far away from his place of safety, but that would surely teach him.
In retaliation to the situation in general, the next foam ball that fell past Daxton was on the receiving end of an annoyed jab of his wand. He had not had any spell in mind, only an urge for retribution, and yet he was unsurprised when there was a small spark as the foam ball got zapped and then flew off across the room. Nowhere near the bins, but then he had not been aiming.
It did not count as a non-verbal spell, Daxton knew that. It was much more like the magic he had already managed at home, before even discovered he was a wizard, so he did not consider it much of a success. It was just... normal.
At that moment, Daxton heard Baxter start speaking, and all the balls stopped moving and reversed. He watched their progress back up to the ceiling for a moment, but as soon as he realised they were dismissed, he wasted not a second in going to retrieve his stuff and heading right out of the door, leaving his parchment in the basket as instructed as he went.

As Ravenclaw lost a point it was hard for her to not shake her head. What the boy had done was pretty dangerous and she had no idea what had possessed him to do so. Paulina was glad that he - or anyone else - hadn't gotten injured as a result.
Slytherin won, but that didn't really matter to her that much; it wasn't about winning. It was about enjoying the game, and she had fun. Competing just wasn't something that Paulina was crazy about. She'd take a nice game like this over a competitive sport like football any day of the week.
Grabbing her stuff, she put everything away but her parchment with the paragraph on charms. That she placed into the basket. "Thanks for the lesson, Professor." And with that she was out the door.

Did he say he was crying? He didn't. Just because his eyes got a liiiiiittle watery didn't mean he was gonna be a total girl about the matter and just because she was being nice didn't mean he'd feel anymore encouraged. "No." He replied simply, now placing all his stuff back in his bag. "No I don't want to try again, no I don't want to learn." And no he didn't want to be here, making him all the happier when the Professor dismiessed the lot of them.
He took one final glance around his area to be sure he wasn't forgetting anything that would make him have to come back. "I'll see you later." You know, 'cause they were housemates and all but right now he didn't want to see people who got spells right when he didn't. That being the case, and without another word spoken, he was gone.
Stupid magic.

As Colt was about to aim for another foam ball, he heard the Professor call times up! He ceased his wand stature and put his wand back in his robes. He turned around and noticed everyone was packing up. Ah man this was such a fun lesson. He waited to hear who won the contest. His ears perked up when he heard the Slytherins one. Well naturally they won and now they can claim their prize. Booo yeah! He began to get his stuff and got his backpack and put his notebook in his bookbag.
Colt made his way to the front of the room and he waited by the teacher being a Slytherin and all. He wondered what they won.
Sigh. Slytherin for the win. SIGH. This was not a very good start of term for the Puffs, now was it. Noticeably more glum than she had been before, though it was unclear whether it was because of meanie type people or because she'd done practically zero things for her house this time around, Norah returned to her desk to retrieve her bag. Was a prefect supposed to lead her house to victory or something? That had to be some kind of expectation, right? Were they ever going to teach her how to do that? She sure didn't know how to do that yet. With a teeny weeny sigh, she poked the happy sticker on her forehead with her index finger, tried to straighten up all the way, and headed for the door. "Thanks for the lesson, Professor."
