This tree has stood on the grounds of Hogwarts for centuries. Beneath, it hides the Shrieking Shack and if you're feeling lucky enough you can try your luck finding and knocking the little knot that makes the tree still. Otherwise, be careful, this tree will whomp without prejudice and has been known to take on anything that has gotten too close to its branches and base.
It should be perfectly fine if you stand at a safe enough distance while admiring the beauty of the half dead looking tree just see to it that you don't throw stones as it has been known to hit back. Around the tree is a nice little area one might come to study in the relative piece and quiet or even catch up on some sleep.

Simon went missing again. Merlin. Of course, Ethan left him a coded message back in their dorms, and hopefully his best friend will show up in the meeting. He had a lot of fun last term, given it was his OWL year, and he didn’t mind doing it again this term. He dressed up warmly of course, and took a brisk walk towards the rendezvous point of the Cartographer’s Meeting.
“Hello professors.” Ethan gave the two adults a salute and sidled closer to the group. “Hey guys.” The Slytherin gave them all a friendly grin. It was kinda nice to see that he knows every single one of them in the group.

Another one of these Cartographers club meeting. Having finished her school work, Beverly sauntered down to the Whomping Willow. The location was interesting enough to grab her attention as was the sense of adventure.
Arriving and taking in everyone that was there, the Prefect shot acknowledging and polite nods at the few there. "Good day, professors." Culloden was here, good. It made it even more promising.
Stopping beside her favorite Hufflepuff, Beverly nudged him with her arm. "Hello, Rehman."

She was pretty , she would give him that.
"I really think that he will." In truth , she thought he would be amazing at it. "Well some of my family.....my mother not so much. A few of my uncles are in the creatures field and my dad loves them." She would leave her dad's profession out because it didn't deal with animals and he worked for a different ministry than the one that governed here. "I do think that my Uncle Tyr raises them as well, maybe sometime during summer you could visit." She wanted Henric to anyways, she was sure that they would be alright with Adi too. "No, you haven't told me that yet Study Buddy. That sounds wonderful!" It really did, it was probably a good thing to have when wanting to deal with hippogryffs and having friends that wanted to work with dragons.
She was surprised when the tree didn't just right out try to whomp her. Pleasantly surprised! " I don't know if I'd call myself brave." When Adi came and hugged it too, she felt the tree tremble. Maybe she was unsure? She giggled at his comment but tried to reassure the tree."Its okay big girl." She remained hugging the tree and laughed incredulously, was this really happening? She wondered if it would decide it was upset and try to whomp them......that trembling might not have been a good sign.
Adi grinned. He liked Ilia saying she would recognise AJ though he knew there must be other good looking girls in the School. But he didn't really see them that way. They were either his friends or just girls who went to classes with him. "See? It runs in your blood.'' Ilia was just lucky she had so many family members who loved creatures. Was this really the Tree that everyone had misgivings about? "I think they're mistaken about the Willow,'' Adi informed Ilia. It would sure seem so, right? The Willow remained calm as ever not even batting a branch at the duo. "Or maybe because it likes hugs and that's all is needed to keep it calm.'' Heh. Whatever the reason, he was RELIEVED it hadn't decided to whoop them. "I think I'll try to find that knot now, Ilia. Maybe you should keep hugging it just in case it decides to come alive.'' Adi waited for his friend to agree before he moved himself.

Seeing the notice board at common room, he saw a notice about cartographer club and it sound interesting. He'd never heard about this club before, maybe he should come down there.
Grabbing his coat, the Korean boy left the common room to the ground. The whomping willow, that's where the meeting was held. His chocolate brown eyes spotted the Care of Magical Creatures professor was already there and it seemed like he was the first student that attended the meeting. Oops, maybe he was too excited. Nah, actually he just needed to get away from study. "Hello, sir." He greeted Professor Thompson and smiled.

"Hi, sir," Sophie greeted the Creatures professor, offering a friendly smile to the boy who was already there with him. There were a few things she considered saying to Javy - like you're looking ravishing today and sorry you got stuck leading us around today, but she didn't think it was right to do that in front of another person.
But she was thinking all those things.
Instead, she just stood beside Javy, facing the same direction as him, and crossed her arms, trying to look tough and intimidating standing next to the professor. Just chillin'.

Adi could NOT forget about it because he had been looking forward to it ever since he saw the notice. Last term's meetings had been epic and no doubt the ones this term would be the same. He arrived at the Whomping Willow and was pleased to see he was not the only one there.
Of course there was a Professor- Thompson... and there were Sophie Jackson! Adi hopped and skipped over to the trio, coming to a stop next to the Gryffindor. "Hi, Professor! Hi, dongsaeng! Hi, Sophie!'' Mighty proud Hufflepuff here for using Korean.
Now. WHEREEE were the others so they could get this show on the road?
All the way out onto the grounds, Toby had been relentlessly tugging the zip on his jacket up and down. It was a good way to fidget, something to focus on, and he enjoyed the noise immensely. Even by the time he reached the Whomping Willow it still hadn't lost its appeal.
It was surprising, really, that he'd even managed to get here, seeing as he'd not been watching where he was going. But despite eyes and attention being totally focused on his zip antics, it seemed his feet had automatically taken him where he needed to go. Once he'd arrived and stopped beside Javy, Toby glanced up, looked around at those gathered, and gave them all a single nod in greeting before his head went back down and he went right back to his fidgeting.
Cosgrach was ready for today! The weather wasn't awful and he did enjoy the cartographer's things last term, so he was glad he was leading this with Javy today. Just as he was leaving the dungeons, Toby was going out of the Entrance Hall too and the sound of his zip intrigued Cosgrach, so he decided to follow the boy without calling him. Zip-ziiip-zip was a hypnotising sound and the man was happy to see that Toby was, indeed, going to join them in their discovery of the grounds.
"Hello everyone!" he greeted the small group - Sophie, Toby, Adi and... Jackson, huh? Good.

So Ben had made the decision to come see what the first of this term would be all about. However as he approached the Whomping Willow, which was their meeting point, he couldn't help but be filled with mixed feelings. Surely Adi would be there too, the Hufflepuff just as much a fan of the activity they had done together. Plus the violent tree reminded him of too many gatherings of him and his bestie, including the fight involving Angel.
"Hello professors," he greeted to Professors Thompson and Culloden as he joined the group. The boy picking a spot away from Adi...outside most everyone for that matter but just close enough to pay attention when they started.

'Sup.
"Jackson.. Sophie.. Aditya... Tobias... Cosgrach-" This was good as he continued on with acknowledging those who had arrived one by one. Including good ol' Cossy to help out. "Hello everyone, glad you all could make it." Introductions were the fun part before the instructions, "We're going to start off with measuring the circumference of the Whomping Willow here for starters before the rest of the area. Right now, we're roughly 7 meters from the Willow and let's keep it that way as we go around it for our own safety." And just in case they had concerns. "In this bag you'll find the appropriate utensils and sketchpad as we go around. There should be enough for everyone." Sounded good, yes? If not questions were fine for either of the Professors here.
Cosgrach greeted Daisy, Ethan, Benny and Lux with a wave as they came too. "Hello," he said to them, and turned to Javy for him to explain what they were going to do. He already had his sketchpad and pencil, so he got that out of his pocket and turned to do the infamous tree.
"Note everything you see from here," he said - just to they didn't focus on only the Willow. He drew a stick to symbolise it, and started to walk sloooooooowly around it to write down draw whatever else he saw.
Toby continued to fiddle with the zip on his jacket as Thompson spoke, glancing around at who had gathered, giving another nod to Culloden whom he'd just noticed, then looking over to the tree in question. Also, it was a good job they didn't need their notebooks from last year because Toby's was lost... somewhere. Even in the mess that was his room or the mess that was his dormitory or the mess that was his school trunk. He should probably look for that.
For now, though, he finally left his jacket alone and went ahead to get a sketchpad and a pencil, automatically twirling the pencil through his fingers as he looked back to the tree again.
Mmmmkayyyy... So they needed to... map the tree, somehow. Not really knowing how else to do it, he simply followed Culloden's lead, literally trailing right behind him and sketching stuff in his sketchbook that he hoped thought might be relevant.

Ooh, they were getting started!
Lux listened curiously as Professor Thompson explained what they would be doing. No surprise it involved mapping the Whomping Willow; there was really no other reason for them to be out here.
Not really sure how to map a tree that could potentially injure her, Lux decided to follow Toby and Culloden's lead. They were super smart and had to know what they were doing. Grabbing the required equipment, she started sketching the tree while slowly walking around it.

Wheeee! More persons were arriving! Adi grinned at them though he ignored Benny completely. Yeah, the Lion had become just another ordinary person to him now who meant nada. Or so Adi was determined to make it. He still had a bit of anger in him but that quickly evaporated when Beverly jammed him. "Bev.'' Adi shoulder bumped her and smiled widely. "Where's your smile?'' Hehe. It was their thing.
Wait. Aditya? Who was that? O__O For a moment Adi forgot that was his name because practically called him by the shortened version of his name and it sounded strange coming from Thompson. Hehe. Anywayyy, now that instructions were being dished out, Aditya listened before grabbing a sketch pad to get started. He fell in line with Culloden, Toby and Lux to start sketching everything he saw. Haiiiii, fellow Puffers (minus Culloden, of course).

Gabriel had arrived and upon doing so, immediately took a place near Professor Culloden. His experiences with the other professor...weren't the best. Not that it had been Professor Thompson's fault. It was just...throwing up in a lesson, humiliating ones self...left a bit of a mark. So, Gabe had exercised caution.
Mostly, he still felt embarrassed and wasn't sure how to face the man.
As for this mapping business, he wasn't an artist...but if given a compass and straight-edge, he could work graphing paper fairly well. If they had a bit of that........Were they helping themselves already or...were the two professors expecting questions? Also, why the whomping willow?
"Isn't it true that there's a passageway beneath this tree?"

The arrival of Tobes followed closely by Culloden made her smile, even though the Hufflepuff seemed rather... pensive, perhaps? She almost wondered if he didn't want to be there, but... she and Javy were there, so he should've theoretically been living the dream, even in spite of recent events. He was, though, really, standing on the opposite side of Javy from her. He was a lucky guy.
Culloden seemed chipper, though, and Sophie grinned widely and waggled her fingers at him in greeting. "Hi, sir," was her choice of greeting to him, and her fellow sixth years and Bev all got friendly smiles as they approached. Quite a group today, hmm? All upperclassmen. What did that mean for the future of Hogwarts with this lack of younger students who sought adventure and excitement? Where was their enthusiasm for learning and exploring? It was very sad.
But it was still a cool group, and Sophie stood a little taller when they got started - measuring the circumference of the tree? Seven meters from the tree now... but... what did that mean in terms of them measuring the circumference? She sure didn't know, but Culloden seemed to know what he was doing as he started to walk around it, so... uhhh...
Yeah, Sophie just gathered the necessary tools and got in line. Normally she would've asked questions, but everyone else seemed to know very well what was going on, and she supposed it was best to just do what everyone else was doing so she didn't look stupid, so... she made notes, mostly, but also wondered how mad people would be if she made a run for the base to see the famed tunnel for herself. Javy and Culloden would immobilize the tree or something to save her, wouldn't they? They wouldn't let anything happen to her, so right here, right now, was the perfect opportunity to explore down there.
She considered this, but for now... she was just biding her time, her eyes stuck on the trunk. Considering. Plotting. Debating. All the while, she had a slightly mischievous look in her eyes. It was VERY tempting.

"Isn't it true that there's a passageway beneath this tree?"
Mapping was lovely wasn't it? As Javier also joined the others with jotting down the noted areas during this long duration circling around... and around... and around. The Willow here had a pretty decent view on the whole Grounds area.
Stopping his own thoughts only at the sudden question, "That is correct, Mr. Banner." Now was he possibly suggesting that.. Oh Merlin, this was Hogwarts students after all, "but that's not our main objective today." Still had more grounds to cover, literally. But away from here now. "That should do for this area. I think we can head over to the Playpens Walkway now." Surely some feathered friends wouldn't mind their visiting. At least a few here were familiar with them enough to not have any trouble.
Cosgrach was happy Gabe joined them too, but he didn't think anything when the boy stood by him. The man just wrote down drew everything he saw from the safe distance of the Willow. They had a good view of the grounds and he thought he got all down. He hoped everyone else got all down too. They had to visit the creatures yet!
What - oh, okay, Javy got it. Yeah, that wasn't their objective if anyone got ideas (he didn't think Gabe's intention was evil at all, but in case someone in their group wanted to risk it).
At Javy's announcement, Cosgrach closed his notebook and turned in that direction.
Yeah, so... Toby was just following Culloden all around the tree, mapping out everything he thought might be important (which turned out to be everything), attempting to sketch the tree from a bird's eye view too which turned out to be super difficult seeing it kept moving and also he couldn't see it from a bird's eye view. But he tried, okay? He tried.
It was a shame they couldn't check out the secret passage, 'cause that would have been cool. Quigley had let them go down the Honeydukes passage last year, and Toby had actually opened his mouth to point that out before he something jolted his memory and he figured he wasn't actually supposed to mention that. Okay. Never mind. Just sketching the layout of the Willow, lalala. Just in time too, as it seemed they were moving on. Toby made the last couple of notes to his work, and followed the group along.
"It's non existent," she replied to Adi before everyone got moving. Her eyes were filled with amusement shooting that statement down.
After gathering as many notes and sketching bits, Beverly raised her head, giving her attention to Professsor Thompson. They were moving on and...not going to explore the passageway? Well...boring. It was the Whomping Willow. Secrets lurked underneath and they were going elsewhere. Why? She wanted to explore.
She also didn't want to die a painful death. With everyone turning to leave that left her with no bait.
Sophie was still eyeing the willow, considering the branches up above and her own speed and agility, deciding the likelihood that she could get to the trunk whilst avoiding the swinging branches... when they were MOVING ON? But...!!
Before she could even impulsively make her move, both professors had turned their backs and were headed to the next destination. So... even if she decided to try for it REALLY QUICKLY before they left, there was no use, because they wouldn't even SEE her and she'd be toast. Mega lame.
Well... maybe next time. She bet she could convince them both to come back later with her (and Tobes, too), and they could take on the tree TOGETHER.
So, reluctantly, Sophie followed the group, writing some notes along the way as a reminder to herself to come back and check out the willow tree with proper supervision later. It'd be perfect. A graaaand adventure.

Oh, no. Gabe was simply curious...but if that wasn't the focus today, then good. This tree was apparently dangerous, anyway. No need to linger.
He'd collected some materials from the professor's bag before jotting a few things down. Here and there, you know. It wasn't very accurate, but how could it be? Gabe's depth perception wasn't the best. He couldn't judge distances without the proper tools...but he'd followed Culloden's lead and carried on.
Of course, at the mention of animals, the Ravenclaw MADE A FACE. WHY was it always about creatures?! The urge was there...to simply make his way back up to the castle and call it a day with the mapping. But he wanted to see it through, no matter what frustrating elements were involved. He didn't like to quit. Quitters got nowhere in life...That and he'd quit enough things recently to feel self-conscious about adding one more to the list.
Bracing himself against possible embarrassing behavior (i.e. fainting, vomiting, etc), he followed closely behind the others.

Lux wasn't sure what parts of the Whomping Willow were important to map, so she was being a good girl and recording everything. Look at her pretty little tree. Hehe.
Gabe asked about a secret passageway and for a moment she thought they were going to explore... Until Professsor Thompson shut the idea down. Awww, no fun. Lux thought that would have been awesome. Maybe Quigley cat could have pushed the secret button. Oh well.
To the playpen walkway it was! Lux followed the group thinking that at least she could see pretty animals.
His own dad... well, he liked them but was certainly not obsessed as Adi and his mother, she didn't like them. The woman had been reluctant to let him adopt Gus. Thank Merlin he managed to get his way.
WHAT He got an invitation to go visit alllll the Hippogriffs Ilia's uncle raised? Adi started to bounce on his feet. "That sounds so awesome! Do you think he'll really let me see them? And fly them? Feed them? Pat them?" Hehe. The Puffer sure was flying off the handle here. He did calm himself a little to nod. "You're now officially one of my study buddies!''
...................
It ran in her blood? Well in a sense it honestly did....."Its a few of my uncles that are really the creatures people in my family. I do spend a lot of summers with them though." Her mother certainly was not a huge fan of creatures magical or mundane. She really only seemed to like her kneazle and didn't mind the owl. Her mother was no fun, especially in that regard.......Her father however loved creatures, but didn't end up pursuing a career with them like her uncles did.
She laughed with Adi's enthusiasm. "Well they let me see all of their creatures and the ones that are safe they let me care for and play with. You see, I have twin uncles with a ranch of sorts for magical creatures, and then my other uncle is a dragonologist." Which is why she spend a lot of her summers with them, her dad knew it made her happy.
----------------------------------------
Ilia looked up at the tree in still a small amount of wonder. "Hugs make everything better, right?" He wanted to find the knot......that's right. "Okay." She nodded her agreement to Adi. She wasn't sure what he was looking for , what it looked like rather. Was it an indent, a knoll, a knob, or a true knot? She pondered it for a moment as she started to walk around the tree a little while still hugging it. Curiosity pretty much demanded that she looked around, just a little. Until she tripped at least.......she landed her backside smack dab on one of the big roots coming from the base of the tree. Her tail bone landed on one of the knots hard and it stung so bad it made her yelp.

"Your family sounds like fun!'' Adi was really, super excited to meet them. He was going to make this happen sometime. After all, he had already gotten the invitation. "That sounds like a ton of awesomeness,'' he told his friend in reference to her being able to play with the creatures. "I bet they'll start letting you take care of the ones that are more dangerous soon enough.'' After all, they did deal with the occasional dangerous ones here at Hogwarts.
...............
"They do,'' the Hufflepuff agrees with enthusiasm. "They're even better when you add a little squish to them." LOL. He was still working on a nickname for that. It was either squishug/squg. He couldn't think of anything else. Anywaaay, back to knot hunting! Adi was sure he would know what he was looking for when he saw it. He began trekking slowly around the tree, scanning of... something that would give him a clue as to where the knot might be. Also, he was keeping an eye on the Willow. He REFUSED to be caught off guard with attacks.
However, if the Willow chose to attack the moment Ilia had fallen over, it would have been successful. "Ilia!'' He had heard the cry and so he hurried over. "Are you alright?'' She had probably hurt herself on her on... that knot right there! "I think you've found the knot!'' Adi pointed. But was it even that one? The Willow wasn't moving so it wasn't like they could see if it was the correct one.

"Sometimes I guess." She laughed little as s thought about them. Her uncles and cousins could be a lot of fun. That part was true enough. "I suppose time will tell." She planned on working with all of them eventually and she did think it was pretty awesome really. She would owl her uncles later, she didn't want to spend summer alone with her mother anyways.
-------------
"I don't think I can squish a tree very well." She laughed a little. There wasn't much squishy to Ilia as she wasn't even the size of one of the willows branches. Granted, she was a very big tree.
The pain caused her to leap up after she yelped and she rubbed her tail bone as she winced. Was she okay? "It hurts...." She said as her winced stayed in place and she stomped her feet a little, still holding her backside. Holy hippogriffs that stung! "Yes, I think my butt found a knot." She blinked away the water in her eyes. Oh, wait.....the knot? She looked up to see if the willow was moving. It wasn't trying to squish them, so it was possible. After all, she only knew about the immobilizing knot from Adi, so if it wasn't moving and trying to kill them and he said it was......then it was right? Wait.............what was that sound?

"Riiiiiight. It looks to me like you're doing a great job.'' The Willow must LOVE Ilia. It didn't even become all falily not once. Just the gentle breeze swayed the branches.
Poor Ilia. "That will hurt to sit on during the next few days,'' he said with a slight laugh despite the situation. Well, it WAS like him to find the lighter side of things during a crazy situation. He laughed a bit again. ''Yes, you and your behind surely did. But I dunno how we can know if it's the right one of the Willow doesn't move.'' Woops. This was the down side of not having the flaily Willow.
Adi tilted his head, watching Ilia. Her attention seemed to have shifted to something else. Was her butt hurting her that bad?

Adi laughed a little and she couldn't blame him, but man that stung! He was right, it probably would hurt to sit for a little bit. "I hope it was the right one. I have a feeling that I will not run as fast as usual right now." She was pretty sure running would be very painful at the moment and frowned at the thought.
Straightening herself out she moved slowly in the direction of the sound she had heard. Was the willow going to clobber them? "Did you hear that?" She asked her adventure puff buddy as she stepped closer. Wait.....was that there before? She tilted her head sideways with a frown. "Adi.....what is this?" That didn't look like a hole that an animal had dug.

"Better get used to sitting on your stomach.'' Okay, he was done now. Hehe. Though he was pretty sure Ilia didn't mind him. She had already gotten used to his crazy jokes and they had only just met. "Just take it easy. You should probably remain standing for now.'' Adi wasn't going to let her sit... not unless it was on a huuuuge, fluffy and extra soft pouf or pillow.
Hear what? Adi stood still an listened. He thought he heard it and it sent his attention hastily shifting back to the Willow. "You mean that cracking sound?'' His hand was already reaching for his wand. Nope, the Willow wasn't going to attack them, right? But once again his attention shifted to the hole. "Oh! I think that's the passage that leads to the Shrieking Shack in Hogsmeade.'' Unless something or someone else had added a new hole around here.
