His assigned time had been stuck in his head the entire day... or rather, ever since Professor Moxley had let him know of it. Adi was looking forward to this little exercise with the phone. Sure, sure, he used phones a lot but never one like the cool, ancient ones. Hehe.

The Hufflepuff bounded into the room, surveying it and it's cubicles. He would just select one randomly, yeah? For some reason, he ended up selecting the cubicle farthest from the entrance. Maybe it was because it would allow him to bound around some more. Whatever the reason, Adi happily made himself at home in the selected cubicle then proceeded to read the instructions on the paper.

That was all? Not bad! Adi would ACE this! Yesh, he would. NOW HE GOT TO USE THE COOL PHONE! He grabbed the handset and placed it to his ear. Now for the numbers! He turned his attention to the bottom of the paper and then began punching in them on the dial pad.

Would it ring?!

The homework sounded interesting, so Lux was happy to make her way to the telephone room at her assigned time so that she could finish the tasks. She mostly had experience calling people or answering the phone, so it would be nice to learn about something different. Hopefully she would do a good job!

The room was full of cubicles, and Lux randomly chose one in the middle. She had no idea why, but it didn't seem to matter much because they were all the same. Taking a seat, she pushed the chair in. Now she was comfortable and ready to get to work. There was a piece of paper with the instructions - and thank goodness for that, because otherwise she would have been lost as to what to do.

Reaching for the phone, she picked up the handset and placed it to her ear. Immediately she heard the dial tone. Looking back and forth between the paper and the keypad, she punched in the phone number so that she could call the mysterious person (who was probably Professor Moxley).

RIIIING!!

... WOOT!

WE HAVE RINGING, PEOPLES!

Well, of course it rang. It wasn't like Moxley was going to give them a defective phone to get the exercise done, was she? Anywayyy, the phone continued to ring while Adi patiently waited for the prompt for him to leave his voice mail. While he waited he was thinking of what to say.

Aha! There was the voice mail! The Hufflepuff listened while toying with the paper on the the desk in the cubicle. Hehe. Adi liked Moxley's greeting.

BEEEEEP!

"Hiiiii, Professor! This is Adi Rehman, the always hyper and happy Hufflepuff and the future owner of a ton of Hippogriffs and co-owner of a Unicorn farm. Hope you're having a lovely day! See ya around the Castle!''

THERE!

With him finishing the message, Adi set down the handset properly so that the line would be disconnected. The first task was done!

RIIIIING!! RIIIIING!! RIIIIING!!

Lux waited patiently, and sure enough after a few more rings she could hear Professor Moxley's voice on the other end. This was not the Professor speaking directly to her, it was a message that had been recorded in advance. She knew about voice mail because her parents used it at their work, but she had never replied to one before.

BEEP.

Oooh, time to leave her message!!

"Hello, Professor Moxley. This is Lux Carrington from Hufflepuff." Even though she was probably the only Lux in all of Hogwarts, it didn't hurt to clarify. "I hope you are having a great day, and want to say that Muggle Studies is a wonderful subject and I think your classes are really interesting and fun. Bye."

Finished, she set the handset back down. Hopefully her message would make Professor Moxley smile because Lux really liked her.

So this was the phone room...Henric thought, walking through the doors. It looked like an muggle office floor of some sort with all the cubicles in place.A telcom center? He surveyed the room for a moment before deciding on the cubicle to pick from. He chose the one at the corner closest to him and sat down on the seat provided.

A muggle telephone which was similar to the ones Professor Moxley showed to them was set on the table in front of him. It felt so weird...why did it remind him of some horror movie he saw once...what if he picked up the call and heard some ghostly breathing on the other line....Brrrr....creepy.Henric realised he was being ridiculous again...firstly,he had seen ghosts everywhere in the castle...why would he be scared of them...and secondly, its Professor Moxley class...she wouldn't prank scare her students just for a laugh,right? It was very unlikely she would because she was one of the most nicest professor around in Hogwarts..yup.

Henric gingerly picked up the handset and placed it onto his ears. Was there a number he should call? Henric glanced down on the instructions again, oh..there was a number written. He pressed the numbers and waited for the dialing tone.

He had this, he had this in the bag.

Living in the muggle world for as long as he had meant he knew how to use a phone, and all sorts of different phones too. From pay phones, mobile phones, reception phones, school phones, hospital phones and the like... he was an expert - practically.

When it was his turn to complete his assignment, Zeke entered the phone room and seated himself at his assigned cubicle. Unfolding his instruction sheet, Zeke placed it on the table beside the phone so that he could read the numbers from it.

Taking the receiver and holding it to his ear, Zeke punched in the numbers and then relaxed in his seat, fingers tapping gently on the desk as he listened to the ringing tone.

Ring ring... ring ring...

Muggle Studies homework was going to be a piece of cake, because only four years ago that was all she had been. Having an advantage was a nice change of pace for her. Not struggling was always nice. Being able to make their tin can phones was pretty legit. Even cooler was Norah letting her have the unicorn one that she made. AJ still had them up in her dorms. Every night before bed she would make one of her dorm mates talk to her on them. Nothing weird about that at all.

Once the student in front of her finished, AJ slid over to where the phone was sitting. Goodness, this one was ancient. No matter. They still worked the same even if the ancient ones were a tad bit more complicated. Cell phones were a breeze. Too bad they couldn't practice on those. Even better would be having the chance to shoot a text to whoever it was they were calling.

AJ picked up the handset and placed it to her ear. There was the dialtone which meant so far so good. Really if you had managed to mess this part up muggle background or not... you were not the brightest crayon in the box.

Homework. Zander was pretty pumped about how easy this was gonna be.

He knew exactly what he was doing. Walked into the room with confidence. And then walked out of the room with confidence because he realized that he had arrived five minutes early.

... Ahem. No matter. He could wait.

Which he did, until finally the person before him finished up. Upon entering the telephone room, his eyes fell on the telephone he had to use if it could even be called that. Merlin. This thing was like a dinosaur!! Zander just stared at it for a few minutes, even picking it up to see how heavy it was. Woah. This was probably back from prehistoric caveman times. Wonder how Moxley got ahold of one of these things.

Huh.

But of course he was here for homework, so he decided NOT to spend anymore of his time just thinking. 'Cause who did that anymore, y'know? Ravenclaws, probably. Sophie Brown, definitely. ANYWAYS, homework time. Easy.

He glanced over the numbers at the bottom of the page and let his finger dance on the number keys as he dialed the phone number and held the phone up to his ear.... Ring.... Ring... A dial tone, which meant it worked. And now all he had to do was wait for this mystery person, whoever this could be, to pick up the phone so that he could get this done. Easy as pie. Speaking of which, he'd have to get some pie on his way back from this.

Grinning to himself, Adi re- read the instructions for the second task. He was so pleased about being able to complete the first one without a hitch and he was determined to continue with the trend. It really did help that he was a half blood so he knew the basics about using a fellyphone telephone.

Anyyywayyy!

Adi grabbed the receiver once more and placed it to his left ear. He located the voice mail button on the right hand corner of the phone without any problem which was pressed. And now to wait for that voice so that he could proceed with the recording! He had already thought of something cool to say , by the way.

The dial tone turned into ringing, and AJ hummed while she waited for voicemail to pick up. Humming wasn't getting the job done so she started to dance a little jig while the phone continued to ring.

RING, RING, RING.

Was this some type of joke? Because she was pretty sure ten minutes had passed and the phone was still ringing. This was a test, wasn't it? Moxley knew she came from a muggle background and was trying to make this harder on her. She just knew it.

Moxley's voice was in her ear. Apparently there wasn't any need for the dramatics because the voicemail had just come on. And probably a whole minute hadn't even passed yet. Having to wait could turn her into quite the dramatic little lion.

BEEP. She could leave a message now, but what to say?

Fun facts, FTW!

"Did you know that you can't cry in space because there isn't any gravity and without gravity your tears can't flow. Oh, and it rains diamonds on Saturn and Jupiter." This sounded like fun facts that a certain astronut would enjoy better than Moxley. "Male kangaroos flex their biceps to impress females... did ya know that?" Okay. She could go on forever, but she had other things that needed to get done.

"This is AJ Valentine just in case you couldn't tell by the awesomeness that is this voicemail. Okay bye!"

Click. The handset was back on the receiver and AJ looked to see what else she had to do for this little assignment.

AHA!

There was that voice with the greeting! What next? Adi glanced down at the paper. He had never recorded a voice mail greeting for himself except on his cellphone and that method had been different. He punched at the numeral four button. After a few seconds of listening, the Hufflepuff pushed at the numeral one button this time. The voice informed him something about recording his greeting after the beep. Yada, yada, yada.

A beep. He need to wait for a beep. He rested his right ankle on his left knee, jangling the said ankle as he waited for that beep.

She was pretty sure that Moxley was going to like her voicemail the best because quite frankly... who didn't like fun facts? Nobody, that was who. AJ could have rambled on and on, but she knew after awhile some voicemails would just cut you off. No need to give a reason to want to flip the phone off the table.

Ahem.

Now what did she have to do again? AJ read over the instructions and laughed at the details. Man, she wished she could be a fly on the wall when somebody struggled with this assignment. It was so amusing to her to see somebody have trouble with things from her world. It was kind of a payback for having to struggle with all things magical. Something that she still did, by the way.

The brunette picked up the handset and placed it once more to her ear. The voicemail button was pressed, and a greeting was heard. But, um, she didn't know what to say.

No lame messages would do. AJ hung the phone back up and bit her bottom lip as she tried to decide what to say...

BEEEEP!

Wheee! Recording time!

"Hiiii! This is Adi. I can't come to the phone right now because I am out living my life. That means I'm probably hanging with my best friends or doing something else fun! Leave me a message with your name and contact number and I'll be sure to get back to you as fast as Batman drives his Batmobile! Peace out!''

Done with recording the message, the sixth year pushed the phone symbol on the dial pad and hung up the receiver. Annnnnd... DONE! OH YEAH. Adi re-scanned the paper to ensure that he had not left out anything but was pleased to see everything had been completed. Great! Now he could head on out of here and pay a visit visit the Kitchen and the elves.

The Gryffindor read over the instructions again as he waited on the other end of the phone. Mystery person, huh? Zander was curious. Very curious. There were SO many possibilities. They could be calling the Queen of England for all he knew. Except, that wasn't all that likely, but it was possible. RIGHT?! Ahem. But it was only a phone call and he was still waiting for the dial tone to end so that he could carry out the rest of the--

SOMETHING IS HAPPENING. Ahem.

Hello and congratulations! You've successfully reached the voicemail of Meredith Noel Moxley, Muggle Studies Professor and Hogwarts Sweetheart! Leave a message after the beep!

Oh. Mystery person was Professor Moxley. How... Obvious. Man, he should've totally seen that one coming. Pft. Queen of England. As if. He waited for the beep for a few seconds, and grinned big as he heard it. What was he supposed to say though?? UH. OH MAN. He was the worst at leaving voicemails. This would be... Interesting.

"Uh, hello Professor... It's me. I mean, it's Zander Adair," this was harder than it looked, okay? "I hope you're having a fantastic day and I've been meaning to ask the house elves about a cheesecake, so maybe once this homework is done I can go and check up on it's status. Anyways, uh, it was nice talking to you... Even though I'm not really talking to you. Anyways, BYE!"... That was rough.

He couldn't be happier that it was over. Ahem. Maybe it would've been a good idea to practice before hand. But that was done now so yeah... Moving on to the next bit.

Task one done, now time for task two!

Lux read the instruction sheet over a few times until she had some idea of what she was supposed to do in order to record a voicemail greeting the same way that Professor Moxley had. It didn't seem TOO difficult, but there was more to it than there had been to leave a message. Maybe it would be a good idea to work out what she wanted to say in advance so that she wasn't tripping up on words and making no sense.

Reaching into her bag, she pulled out a piece of paper and a pencil. Writing things down sometimes made it easier, and this way she could read her message as she recorded it.

Biting her lip, the redhead got to work. Every once in a while she would scribble something out because she didn't like it, but in the end she was pretty pleased with what she wanted her message to say. Reading it once over, she nodded to herself. Everything was perfect and now all she had to do was use the phone again. Maybe it was a good idea to consult the instructions again because there were random buttons that needed to be pushed as far as she could remember.

Looking at the sheet of paper, she lifted the handset off of the receiver and placed it to her ear.

Norah bounced form foot to foot as she waited and waited and waited for her turn to happen. She'd only arrived a couple of minutes early, but those minutes felt like an ETERNITY because there was exciting stuff happening in that little room. Exciting. Stuff. It'd been AGES since she'd last used a telephone, but those little buttons were so fun to press, and the ringing noise? AWESOME.

As soon as the door opened she leapt through it and gave the curly cord a nice little yank, beaming as it bounced back again. She pulled it again and snorted as it bounced back. This telephone cord was much funner than boinging her curls any day. Would Moxley let her wear it on her head sometime just to try? The fourth year eyed the bottom of her directions sheet and wiggled her fingers in preparation before lifting up the phone. BUTTON PRESSING! YEAH! Going slowly to enjoy the little clicky sound they made, she used one finger to push the button of each number down.

All done! Norah looked around, waiting for something AMAZING to happen, before realizing she hadn't put the phone to hear ear yet. She pushed a few curls out of the way and pressed the phone thingy up to her ear. DID IT WORK DID IT WORK DID IT WOOOOOORK?

Time for a Muggle Studies assignment.

He was keen on doing this assignment granted he already knew how to use a muggle telephone because he sometimes needed to make phone calls for his parents. He never really experienced an old telephone before though. Man this looked like a dinosaur. He never seen one of these in a while. This was something they used back in the 1980s or something. He wondered who used these things. Possibly business workers or some top notch business CEO's.

With that in mind as he got near his cubicle where his phone was, he noticed there was a list of numbers Moxley wanted them to use. He grinned and some of them were purely foreign to him and as he looked at the phone numbers he could recite his back in the muggle world. He decided to take some action and began to pick up the phone. It was working because he heard like a long ringing tone. He placed it down and now it was time to make some calls. He looked around and noticed others were already making calls. Maybe Kace would make a prank call. Who knows? Would he get in trouble? Let's find out.

The instructions said that the first thing a person does to create a voicemail message is to press the 'voicemail' button. That made a lot of sense to Lux. Scanning all the buttons on the right side of the telephone, she found the correct one and pushed it.

That was step two done.

A greeting message played and she waited patiently for it to finish before moving on to the next step. The instructions said that she needed to dial the numbers 4 and 1. Looking at the keypad, she pushed the '4' button. Now that was easy because she had dialed numbers loads of times to call people. Hehe, look at her being a professional with a telephone. Immediately afterwards, she pushed the '1' button.

That told the phone that she wanted to record a voicemail message, so now she just needed to wait for the BEEP. Then she could speak into the handset! She'd be done this assignment in no time and then she could get something to eat.

Yaaaaay.

Okay. Zhenya had looked at the time she had written down, after Professor Moxley had informed her of when her allocated time int he Telephone Room was. She had arrived 5 minutes before then just to be on time and she waited patiently until it was her time. Zhenya walked into the Telephone Room and took a seat at the cubicle, in front of a telephone. Zhenya looked at it like it was an alien. Zhenya noticed there was a directions sheet there, too, so she had a detailed read over it, glancing up to look at the phone every so often.

So first, all she had to do was pick it up and put it to her ear. Which bit? Zhenya put the directions paper down and started poking at the machine. She pressed some buttons, but nothing happened. No ear piece came out... um? She saw there was a cord there, so she pulled it. Perhaps it was like those muggle lights - pull the string and it turns on? But it wasn't. Something fell from the phone and boinged a few times towards the ground, thankfully not hitting the floor. It made Zhenya squeal and jump back into the back of her chair. "Oh no," she said quietly, looking around. Had it broken? No, Zhenya didn't think so. She reached down and picked up the handset and regarded it with a frown. She put the mouth piece to her ear and the ear piece to her mouth. "Hello?" she asked, not hearing anything. "HELLO?" she said a little louder. Nothing!

This was dumb.

Using a phone. That was probably the easiest thing EVER. Like. Up until like three years ago she'd been living as a non-magical person after all. Maggie KNEW how to use a phone. So this homework was going to be eaaaaaaasy. She was just going to do this and be back out there in no time.

Right.

So.

This phone was ancient.

It looked like it belonged in a museum. Like ?????? What was up with all those buttons???? Maggie picked up the receiver and held it in her left hand. She then slowly dialed the number and rather reluctantly put the receiver to her ear. What if somebody was going to yell into it? What if this was a prank? What if-

Okay. At least it was ringing.

While he waited, listening to the ringing on the other end, Zeke curled his finger through the phone cord, strumming it at intervals. Cord phones were so rare these days, but he still remembered the one in Pam's office in Birmingham... he was lucky enough to use it not once but TWICE! Special arrangements and all.

The ringing stopped on the other end, and instead of a brief greeting, what he heard was a recorded message from PROFESSOR MOXELY! He smiled to himself, amused by this assignment. This was soon followed with the...

BEEEP!

"Hi Professor Moxely, it's Zeke Rogers calling, just wanted to let you know that I made it this far and I guess I'll be hearing from you soon. Bye."

With that done and dusted, Zeke placed the receiver back down, ending the call. Easy as beans.

Now she had to start the whole process over because she hadn't been ready the first time. So um, don't count that against up, Moxley. AJ just wanted to make sure that her own voicemail was awesome. Lame voicemails were just so... lame. Yeah, so she still didn't know exactly what she was going to say, but she was starting to get hungry so something needed to happen.

Picking up the handset again, she placed it to her ear. Okay. What button did she have to push? Ah. The voicemail button. Duh. Press.

Blah, blah, blah. There was a greeting. Now there was something else she was supposed to push. Lucky number 4 it was. Press.

She needed to press more buttons? Good grief. This old dinosaur phone sure was difficult. Only not really. It was just time consuming. Why did they have to push SO many buttons to get it to do what she wanted it to? Cellphones weren't this demanding... just sayin'!

AJ pressed 1 on the keypad, and the next thing she had to do was wait. Had she ever mentioned how much she hated waiting? Do, da, deeeee...

BEEP!!

With that signal, Lux was ready to voice her message into the telephone. Hopefully she wouldn't mess up when speaking, but it helped that she wasn't nervous. In a way this would be like talking on the phone - except of course there was no one on the other end to listen and respond.

Looking down at her sheet of paper, Lux began recording what she wanted her message to say. "Hello, this is Lux Carrington. I can't come to the phone right now because I am probably busy with friends or doing my homework. Leave a message with your name and number after the beep, and I'll respond as soon as I can! I hope you have a nice day!"

Easy peasey lemon squeezey.

Finished, Lux pushed the '#' button on the keypad and hung up the handset. That was the homework done so she could get herself something to eat. Maybe the house elves could make her cucumber sandwiches because she had a craving for them right now.

He was still internally cringing from the voicemail he left Professor Moxley. That couldn't have possibly gone any worse. Merlin. You'd think after leaving messages for people countless times in the past, he'd get a lot better at it. Wrong. This was just one of those things that you either had or you didn't. And Zander didn't. Obviously.

So he was just gonna move on from this mess in hopes that the rest of it went a lot better. Ahem. Sorry in advance, Professor M. You've got a lot of awkward to listen to. Courtesy of one Zander Adair, by the way.

The Gryffindor picked up the telephone head-set once more and put it to his ear. Now er.... Where exactly was this voicemail button? Sorry. This phone was just an actual DINOSAUR so it was taking a while to locate things. Not his fault though, he was trying.
