The more she thought about it, the more Eden thought it was likely she would definitely know it was Eden. She had given them all specific time slots so...if she just looked at which times the calls correlated with, she'd know.

That made her feel a bit better.

She had to figure out what the heck she wanted to say for her..recorded voice mail thing. It had to be PERFECT. And not dumb or rushed, and she wouldn't let the thing cut her off this time. She flipped open her notebook and began to scribble down a few things she might wanna' say. Eden also didn't want it to be BORING. Nope. That just wouldn't do!

Eden squinted down at what she'd written. Well. She was DEFINITELY going to say the word BEEEEEP. Because she thought it was really funny.

Ring.

Ring.

Ring.

Was this exciting or what? Seriously, this term the professors had made the homework pretty fun this term. Except for that one potions, making Cinna act like a little weak girl. Yeah, she didn't like that assignment too much. Anyway. Where was this voice mail?

Oh, Moxley. It was Moxley. What a cute little voice mail. Okay, what was she going to say. She better think fast. "Mmm. Hi, professor Moxley this is Cinna. Doing the homework assignment here. Thank you for being a awesome professor. I might be by your office soon with a yummy surprise for you. Talk to you soon." With that she put the phone back on the receiver. Next she read the directions to the second part of the assignment.

Ethan tapped the table impatiently as his furrows started to knit together. Come on, was someone going to pick up his call or what? See, this is the reason why he can’t trust muggle technology completely. But then again, if he was to spend time in their community, he ought to know these basic things because...well, he didn’t want to look suspicious, or stupid. Mordaunts simply aren’t like that.

Oh. OH. The ringing stopped, and then there was a beep!

Though he used a phone years ago, it was his first time to come across a voice mail thing. Ethan made funny mouth movements, excited and confused at the same time. “After the beep?” he asked out loud to no one in particular.

Beeeeeeep.

He can...leave the message now, right? “Good day Miss Meredith Noel Moxley, this is Ethan Sherlock Holmes. I have received information that you needed my detective assistance. Please call me back as soon as possible, thank you.” And with a grin on his face, Ethan hung up and placed the handset back on the receiver.

And now...onto the second task...

Oh, they were going to record their own voice mail. Meep. She wasn't sure why this had made her so excited. The little things really seem to do that to her. She read over the directions one more time. Okay, she picked up the phone and pressed the voice mail button.

What you left on your voice mail message said a lot about you. Yep it did. Just as Moxley said in hers about being a Hogwarts, sweetheart. So what was she going to say on hers? Hopefully she had plenty of time to decide, while she waited though the options. All she wanted was to record a voice mail.

He had to do this so there was no point in delaying the inevitable any longer than he had to to make sure he didn't mess up or miss a step in the process. The handset was easy to recognize between diagram and actual thing. Plus still translatable with the modern telephone. Benny tentatively lifted it up and raised it to his ear. Except he accidentally put the ear piece at his mouth and mouthpiece at his ear so he didn't hear anything and made a face.
Something was wrong already.

Slowly lowering the handset back down into its home, he looked it over. It didn't fit exactly the way he had done. Switching it around to work, the Gryffindor realized the issue and the possible reason for his mistake. This time he was careful to bring the upper cup to his ear and the lower cup near his mouth. NOW he heard a sound. The dial-tone he thought it may have been called.

Now to actually place the call. Benny glancing down where the number was written, his fingers hovering over the number pads as he read them over before pushing the appropriate keys.

Angel was bored, seriously why couldn't they just say record voicemail and it happens instead of doing what they had too and wait for the stupid voice to speak to them it just wasn't fair and it would be a lot easier for them to get things started if you could just tell the phone what you wanted.

Angel then listened as the voice finally stopped speaking and she pressed 4 which is what the instructions had said, seriously it could have been a lot simple if she just used her voice, whoever created the phone didn't think it through and she was going to campaign for her voice to be put on all phones because well she was awesome.

Angel now had to figure something out and that was how to record a voicemail it was something to do with pressing a number, she was being drawn to one for some reason and so she decided that was what she was going to press.

Time to record a voicemail. He saw the directions on the board and he needed to copy them down. He kind of forgot how to do it. He saw the notes in his notebook and followed the directions. He saw at first he needed to pick up the handset obviously.



After reviewing the notes, he pressed the voicemail button located on the right side of the telephone. Then after he pressed the button he heard the greeting and pressed the number four. Four.....four....four where is four. Ah there it is! He pressed it and now he heard that it wanted to go to your voicemail. Now he pressed one to the keypad and now he was gonna record his greeting. As he pressed the button, he heard the beep to tell him he needed to record a message. He began to plan what he was gonna say and then he began...

"Hello you reached Kace Lecium, I am sorry I couldn't answer your call. Please leave your name and number and I get back to you soon. Thanks.." then he pressed the number button and was finished and hung up. There not so bad was it?

At the sound of the beep, Norah held on tight to the phone 'cause she couldn't just drop it again. This was her MOMENT, after all. "Hi Hi HI Professor Moxley, looks like I called you and you didn't pick up so I guess I leave a message now except I'm not really sure what I would've said if you had picked up. Except 'hi' but I think I already said that. If I didn't, then hi! I hope you're having a really radical day and stuff with lots of glitter and happy things. And chocolate. And a camel to ride except not the kind that spits unless you like the spitting kind in which case I hope it spits a lot too. Do you think if you had a camel you'd let me name it? I like naming things. I think I'm going to name this telephone Geronimo and w--oh. I guess I should stop talking now to do the rest of this assignment but if you do get a camel y'know where to find me! Bye bye. Oh yeah! This is Norah. Norah Lillian Kittredge. Okay bye again" That was good, right?

The fourth year set the phone back down where she'd found it, and looked back at the directions sheet. Record a VOICE MAIL? WICKED. She wrinkled her nose as she contemplated what to say. Could you get one of these telephones to shoot confetti out whenever she didn't pick up? That'd be much more exciting than just hearing her voice, probably. If somebody called her and thought her voice was even more exciting than confetti then they were obviously all sorts of cool and deserved EXTRA confetti. She should invent that. The muggles were missing out on all sorts of confetti.

BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP.

Okay, the beep wasn't THAT loud. But it was still a beep and Merlin, Zander had forgotten what he was gonna say!! Actually did he actually have a plan at all??? ERM. Man. HE WAS PANICKING NOW !!!!

Uh oh.

"Hi Professor, wait... Hi, just hi.... You've reached Zander Adair's voicemail and well, I'm not here right now... Unless I'm just ignoring you... Which I'm probably not because it doesn't seem like something I'd do.... Anyways, you can just leave me a message and yeaaaaaah..."

How the heck did that happen!?! Zander quickly slammed the phone into it's place, whilst mentally lecturing at himself. What kind of voice mail even was that!? Merlin. It was a good thing this wasn't going to be his real life voice mail message. Because that would've been even more embarrassing. Though, Moxley was probably going to hear that and think terrible things of him. This was horrible. Zander should've thought it through before hand. Ah, there was definitely a reason why he wasn't Ravenclaw. And this was only a small portion as to why.

Unable to take the shame any longer, the Gryffindor quickly gathered his things and walked out of the room. Merlin. That was terrible. He wished a quick 'good luck' to the person waiting just beyond the room for his own appointment, and then Zander was on his way.

After recording his message and was pleased with the results, he began to pack up his notebook and supplies. I mean he was glad he didn't have to listen to it because he hated the sound of his own voice. I mean who didn't? It just sounded weird and you think you sound normal till you hear yourself all squeaky and such. Your like do people really hear me that way? He grinned and then once he was all packed, he slung his backpack over his shoulder and made his way to the great hall. On his way out he heard people recording their messages and some of them were really amusing. He found Norah's quite adorable not gonna lie.

Now onto to having a nice meal. I mean seriously did this kid ever stop eating?

Eden was satisfied with the number of voicemails she had to choose from to leave Professor Moxley, so she dialed the number and waited patiently for the ring to stop. She even hummed a little to the rings.

Honestly, how weird was it to be using the phone at SCHOOL where phones weren't supposed to WORK. It just felt so funny! Hehehe. She chuckled to herself and ALMOST missed the chance to leave a message--she was chuckling right through Moxley's cute little message to leave a message!

MERLIN!

Eden would have been apically embarrassed--but she was so unprepared for the beep that she looked down and......REALIZED SHE HAD DONE THE WRONG THING. OMG. OMG OMG. SHE HAD CALLED MOXLEY AGAIN AND WAS SUPPOSED TO BE RECORDING A MESSAGE.

Um.

Um.

Oh gosh.

"WHOOPS PROFESSOR--so sorry--I did the wrong thing--oops--um--uh--bye--"

And she quickly hung up.

Following the instructions, Maggie then proceeded to press the #1 button. All this actual button pressing was making her fingers ache.

Moxley really needed to get a touchscreen.

OMG OKAY NOW IT WAS TIME TO RECORD THE MESSAGE OKAY SHE DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO-

Beeeeeeeeeeep!

Okay. She needed to say something. Ugh. "Hi! This is Magdalena Natalie Traulton. I'm clearly not available right now and my servants are apparently too busy to answer the phone. You can leave a message after the beep or call back later." That sounded cool right? Yup.

That sounded like what she would want her voicemail to sound like some time.

It’s going to be a challenge, definitely. His mum used to do these things in the house, and he had to be honest about the second challenge. He had no idea whatsoever about it. Ethan however, wasn’t the type who’d give up right away. They were given the instruction card, so it was a matter of reading and comprehending the things written down on it, and execute it the way it should be. Challenge? Yes. Getting it done? Easy.

Step one was a no brainer. He’d done that before, so he could skip that. Second step was to press the voicemail button. Ethan placed the card down and searched for the button that said voicemail. Once he had found it, he picked up the handset, and pressed the magic key.

Beep.

So far, so good...er, next step?

It took a few tries, he kept mixing up numbers in the process of dialing, but eventually he heard an actual ringing coming from the phone headset. Oh well, better late then never, he supposed. Benny listened intently, waiting for something more to happen. He had made the call, so he was now onto activity two...leaving the voicemail. That was the same as leaving a message...right?

No...wait...one was one thing and one was another!

The Muggle Studies professor's voice came on the line, bringing him back to the current scene. Hello and congratulations! You've successfully reached the voicemail of Meredith Noel Moxley, Muggle Studies Professor and Hogwarts Sweetheart! Leave a message after the beep! Benny bit the inside of his cheek debating what to say as he heard the BEEP.

"Um...hi Professor. Just calling you like you asked. But you're not here so I guess I'll move on. Bye." With the final word, he replaced the handset back down on its home. "Great going Atreyu..." Benny mused with a shake of his head.

Ooh. A voice! Hello voice!

Ethan did not bother to look at the instruction card, instead, he opted to listen to the whole message thing. By the end of the message, the Slytherin then pressed the number 4 on the dial pad.

Beep.

More instruction was given of course, and the seventeen year old can’t help but be restless on his seat. “I’d like to record my greeting now, kind sir.” He said to the phone, and figured that it wasn’t a magical object. Right...what was the number again? 1? Yeah, one.

Beep.

Okay...now what? Ethan figured that the phone was so ancient, it took ages for it to remember what it was supposed to tell him. “Helloooo???”

Lalalala.... he was half way there, just one last task to go.

Seriously, this was a piece of cake. SO GOOD.

After reading over the instructions - just in case - Zeke picked up the handset receiver thing again and held it to his ear. With it wedged between his ear and his shoulder, Zeke held one finger to the instruction page, and with the other he started by pressing the voicemail button on the side of the phone.

He listened to the automated greeting person listing him his options on how to proceed, and cut it off at number 2, instead he clicked the number 4 button on the keypad. Voicemail. He was after voicemail.

Seriously, the little person inside the handset’s probably soooo old, it fell asleep or something. The Slytherin sighed as he scratched his head and reviewed the instruction card. Well, he didn’t miss any step, so why was it taking so lo—oh. OH!

The seventeen year old cleared his throat and bobbed his head from left to right, letting the voice finish the instruction. As soon as he heard the beep, he immediately got into character.

Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeep.

“You have reached the voicemail of Ethan Tyler Mordaunt, Hogwarts’ Resident Detective Wizard. If you have a case or mystery for me to solve, please leave a message. If it’s about your girlfriend or boyfriend, or even your homework, please call Simon Holden instead. Thank you.”

Once he was done with his recording, he pressed the numbe rsign on the dial pad, and placed the handset back to its cradle.

Hmm. That wasn’t so bad. He was able to get through homework just fine. Now, to find Simon Holden...

Angel pressed the number one button and smiled, this was going to be epic.

*beep*

"Hello this is the voicemail of Angel Valentine, unfortunately I am unable to take your call at the minute." Angel was totally enjoying this. "If you want you can leave me a message and I promise to get back to you ASAP." Angel thought that this was a good message because she was totally being her usual self and being nice.

Angel pressed the # key and then hung up the phone because it was just totally amazing and she really wanted to do more of this again it was totally amazing seeing how muggles looked from a wizarding way. She totally couldn't wait until the next lesson.

Ian leisurely strolled into the phone room at his appointed time. He wasn't particularly excited for this particular assignment as he and his family used the phone regularly. Of course his mobile would work in this room, but he didn't want to get in trouble. He'd had enough of that during his time here at Hogwarts.

Ian got to his cubicle and slowly read the instructions. Nothing particularly challenging. Make a phone call and leave a voicemail. That really was the rub. He wasn't in the habit of leaving voicemail messages because if the reciever were anything like him, it would be some time before it was checked and he always felt like the words were forced and felt odd. It was however the assignment.

He thought about wandering about and watching others do it, but figured his time was limited and he didn't want to miss the chance to complete the homework. He picked up the receiver, dialed the number and waited. Ring...ring....ring (he began to wonder who the mystery person was on the other end). This caused him to be distracted and when the message came on he completed missed the chance to leave his message. He would have to try again.

Norah pushed the voicemail button just like the directions had said, but nothing happened. Hello? Pushpushpush. Had she broken the phone? Was Moxley going to find out it was her and not let her go to Muggle Studies ever again? In the whole entire rest of her LIFE? With hazel eyes widened, she gave the button a few more successive pushes before turning her panicked gaze to the directions sheet again. It didn't say anything about what to do in an emergency, except oh. She had to pick UP the phone and then press the button? Merlin, this was a lot harder when her mum wasn't there telling her which buttons to push. Apparently mums were better at that than pieces of paper were.

With the phone held up to her ear, she pressed the voicemail button again and let out a breath of relief at the sound of the greeting message. Man, it was like she'd run a MARATHON or something. You can calm down now, heart rate. No need for a herd of buffalo trampling around in her chest, it'd probably do lots of smushy things to her guts and she needed those. She pressed the four next, and added "I want to go to my voicemail because this paper said so," just in case the phone hadn't understood that just from the number, and then pressed one. "And now I guess I want to record my personal message thingy." There was nothing wrong with being thorough, okay? Not everybody understood stuff right on the first try, it was only fair to give the telephone a couple of different instructions to choose from.

OMG SHE HAD TO PRESS THE # BUTTON!!!!

Maggie pretty much assaulted said button when she tried to press it as quickly as possible. And as hard as possible. Okay, now there was a really awkward silence after her little message. UGH!! Could she do it again? Should she do it again? Would someone even listen to them? Maybe nobody would know that message was hers???

.....wait, she'd said her name.

UGH!

Okay. She better go. Just in case the professor was mad at her or she had ruined the telephone, Maggie reached into her pocket and sprinkled some pink glitter on the phone. Yes. That would help. Maybe.

Okay. She was leaving for real now.

Clara imagined that this task could be quite interesting for people who had had little experience with muggle phones or technology, but for muggleborns and those that had spent a lot of time around muggles, like herself, it wasn't all that challenging. That wasn't to say that she wouldn't make any mistakes at all, though it was unlikely. While she had spent a lot of time around muggles, she hadn't spent a lot of time using muggle 'landlines'. Mostly, she'd witnessed others using them.

.............. But, it seemed straightforward enough.

With a tiny slip of paper with her allotted time written on it screwed up in her hand, Clara made her way towards the room of requirement of phones. She took a moment to appreciate the layout - Professor Moxley must have spent some time setting it all up - before stepping inside one of the cubicles, immediately noticing the phone and sheet with directions on it. She slipped the bit of paper into her pocket - she wouldn't be needing it - and read through the instructions, twice. The first task was to make a call.

That would be a piece o' cake, surely.

Following the instructions closely, the redhead picked up the handset and held it up to her ear. So far, so good. This was the easiest part. She then began to tap in the numbers, eyes flitting between the directions sheet and the phone's keypad.

Ring, ring. Ring, ring. Ring, ring.

She hung the phone back up, to give herself some time to think about the voicemail. She wanted something cool something different. She scribbled a few things down in her notebook. She scratched out a bunch of ideas, and even ended up drawing about a million hearts on her page. Doddling in her notebook she finally came up with something. Hehe. This was going to be the best voice mail greeting ever. She was sure of it. She picked up the headset again. Put it up to her ear. She hit the voice mail button in the corner of the phone on the right side.


No she did not need Spanish.

She pressed the 4 button on the keypad after she heard the greeting. She followed the directions and pressed the 1 button on the keypad. Okay she was ready to record her voice mail greeting. Taking a deep breath just before the beep for her to start recording her greeting. Oh my gee. Here she goes. Ahhh.

"Uh, Welcome to Cinna's voicemail. The first rule of Cinna's voicemail is you do not talk about Cinna's voicemail. The second rule of Cinna's voicemail is you do NOT TALK ABOUT CINNA'S VOICEMAIL. Third rule, leave your name and number at the beep. Fourth, wait patiently by your phone; one of us will come to you. And the fifth and final rule of Cinna's voicemail: if this is your first time at Cinna's voicemail, then you have to leave a message"

*blink*

Using the phone in the little cubicle was SO different than what they'd practiced in class. Not a tin can in sight, and she had to talk to someone who wasn't actually standing three feet away. Dot touched the phone hesitantly, rubbing the hard plastic surface with her fingers before she picked up the handle part.

What was it called? A handset, that's what the assignment said. She pressed the cold plastic against her ear and cheek, frowning because there was no earthly way to tell if she was doing it right. What was that sound? Dot pulled the handle away from her face and frowned at it, trying to figure out where the sound was coming from.

Oh! Oh, the top part with the perforations. She held it against her ear again, this time with the perforated bit against her ear, and clearly heard a beep beep beep. Merlin, that was impressive. Muggles were SO impressive.

Deep breath.

Could she hear that? She wanted to make sure that it didn't sound as complete lame as it while it was being recorded. Ugh that was awful. She pressed the number symbol button.Hanging up the phone she laughed at herself. That was ridiculously lame. She needed a do over on that one. Oh well. At least she left Professor Moxley a nice message on her voicemail.

Now she would have to go work on those Cinnamon rolls that she kind of promised Professor Moxley. So she grabbed up her things. Ekk that voice mail greeting that was sure to haunt her for the rest of her life. For sure. She hopped out of the chair and left the cubical. Heading toward the kitchen. Hopefully by the time her baked goods were done, Moxley would be clueless to the lameness of that greeting. Food therapy here she comes.
