You arrive back at the barnyard for a lesson with Creatures. Expecting signs instead you are greeted with Professor Thompson's presence. He just so happens to be right by the open doors leaning against the wall with his arms folded as he waited, occasionally chewing on the tomato in his hand. Despite the chilly conditions it was looking quite nice out today as you wait on the lesson to begin.

Where are we at?
Post 1 - Greetings + What do you know of Porlocks? Post 2 - Responses + How can we gain their trust? Post 3 - Responses + Let's make them a sweet offer they can't refuse. Post 4 - Answers to questions + Let's feed, meet, and greet the Porlocks.
"Alright. We will be using food to lure out the Porlocks, who happen to be with the Winged Horses out by the Playpen walkway." Which food? Grass? "Since it's quite nice out to them, they'll have plenty access to grass, so we'll be feeding them certain fruits.. with a little change in the taste." If that tomato the Professor had eaten earlier gave any hint on what they would be doing. "We're going to make it taste sweet. As sweet as a regular sugar cube." Now why exactly? "The Porlock's nature is to allow the Winged horses first access to the snacks, unless it's sweet. Knowing full well that too much sweets can do more harm than good they're more than willing to help out with the diet."
With a simple wand motion the huge basket right by Professor Thompson appeared. Filled with a large number of tomatos, apples, and lemons. "Now taking a fruit from the basket we're going to perform a spell that will make it the desirable taste. Extra Sweet." And? "Not only will it taste sweet, but if done proper the fruit should sparkle and shiny enough to garner attention in the light to attract the Porlocks."
"So we don't accidentally offer a bunch of salty and bitter treats, we will be practicing and tasting them until it is sweet enough." Hopefully these kids didn't eat alot right before the lesson just in case. "The incantation is "Magimus. Maa-Gee-Mus.." This time the Professor took out a lemon. "Drawing a circle around its circumference," Holding it in his palm so it just sat there, he drew an invisible circle around it with his wand before saying, "Magimus." Continuing the circle sparks started forming in the circle before he lowered his wand. Not bothering to peel the skin off, he gave it a little bite for a taste.. smiling a little from the extra sweet taste. "Now it is no longer sour.. Now you all can try."
--- OOC: We will be giving them extra sweet fruits. Using the spell, Magimus you will first practice and taste the sample fruit of your choice; tomato, apple, lemon. In no less than three labeled posts the following must be done;
- Picking the desired fruit.
- Practice the incantation "Magimus" and the wand movement (draw an invisible circle around) alone and then on the fruit.
- Tasting the sample, retrying if the attempt fails/tastes bad.
You will have until February 2nd 11:59 pm EST to complete this part before we continue. Feel free to poke, pm, vm for any questions you have and I'll get to them.
Cutty watched with interested as Professor Thompson casted upon the lemon and then took a bite out of it. There was something about Thompson's classes, even when (or perhaps especially when) joined with Professor Fuller's classes that made them feel the slight bit a prank. What if Thompson had simply taking a taste numbing potion before class had begun and was tricking them all into biting raw and not so sweet fruits? There were sparks from the spell, however that did not always mean the magic did what he said. Cutty considered all of this not with disgust or distaste, but with admiration. He knew that if he were a teacher it'd be his way of carrying on. Things we to do pass the time.
Cutty helped himself to one of each of the fruits and carried them back to his desk. He bit into the apple and held it up. "Magimus." He said, circuling the fruit with his wand and watching the sparkling bits of light surround it. Holding the apple between his middle finger and his thumb he inspected it for an enhanced appearance. Zilch! Next time, swallow your food before you try the incantation, Mordaunt.

Eden had....definitely spaced out just now. Like..a lot. Since when did THAT happen? Since she most CERTAINLY had been staring too much at Cutty during the lesson. Flippin' Cutty Mordaunt. Being all cute.
Also, Eden had been doodling his name in her notebook.
.....Maybe she was doodling Phoenix's name, too.
.....Maybe there were hearts involved.
Eden McGee was a sixteen year old girl.
But when Professor Thompson was all...'Go make these fruits taste sweet blah blah' Eden just nodded and went to go choose an APPLE. Eden was quite partial to apples not ONLY because Professor Hottie Quigley liked them, but ALSO because her NAAAME. EDEN. APPLES. YES.
Cool.
Prancing back to where she had been before, she eyed THE Cutty Mordaunt and HIS apple..."Copying me?" she asked, eyebrow raised, teasing him. She had to practice the spell first, though, and so she...kind of just stuck close to the...friend. He was her..friend. They were good friends.
"Magimusmosemso--" BLAH! Eden butchered that and grumbled to herself--"Magi-margimoose--Ma--" SIGH. she was getting flustered and about to THROW her apple at someone.
Not really. But. She really wanted to. The circle motion was easy--"Mag--Magimoose--MAGIMUS--" AHA! Was that right? Was it? She hoped it was.

Puck liked the sound of this spell. Seriously she could make really gross sour things taste like sugar and then eat them herself. SO winning at this right now. She grinned as she stood up and glanced at all of the foods.
Hello…what? He at the lemon and liked it…okay she’d try it.
Really. Plucking a lemon off of the table she moved back over to where Rorie was. “If it doesn’t work I can squeeze it in an enemies eyes” she joked of course…but was it really a joke? If she bit into it and it was still sour and it juiced someone’s eye it wasn’t her fault.

Emotionlessly, Cutty abandoned the bitten apple simply by loosening his grip upon the fruit and picking up another. The tomato, already bright in colour and appearance. The hemi-translucence of it's skin, he thought would probably give it a really nice appearance. He didn't, this time bother to bite the fruit before hand. He did sniff it, but lacking the smell he had whilst he'd been the fortunate victim of a partial human transfiguration, the smell was faint and dull. Enough to know, though, that it was appropriate to what a tomato was meant to smell like.
"Yea." He said in reply to Eden McGee, as if he didn't care if he was copying her, though he so wasn't. "I mean, three fruits to chose from. What are the odds that we'd chose the same one." Was he being sarcastic and mean? Or was that his way of saying they were brain!twins.
Staring at the fruit, Cutty concentrated on it's succulent appearance and imagined it not too far off from persimmon in it's look. "Magimus." His wand created the circular pattern around the tomato. Sparkles like before enveloped the little red sphere and soon it was shining as if he'd polished it with a glitter rag.
He was about to take another sniff of the tomato when he witnessed and heard Eden McGee's proper mushmouthed incantations. "Yer can do it. I believe in yer, Eden." He snorted and joshed to the 6th year.

She did detect sarcasm in his voice. Pfffft. Eden didn't take it seriously half the time. She just rubbed the apple on her skirt in attempts to shine it like she'd seen in movies. It didn't work. Movies LIIIIIED?
RUDE.
She wanted to eat her apple, too, but she just glanced from her uneaten apple to CUTTY--"Pssst--I don't think we're supposed to eat them yet--" she whispered, glancing at Professor Thompson. Plus...she was always hungry. And seeing Cutty eat was making her MORE hungry. Mehhh.
Twirling her wand around in a circle, she practiced the motion for a second before looking up, meeting his gaze........taking his words so serious. She almost hugged him, because his words--so SWEET. But she didn't hug him because they were with people. "Oh--C-Cutty--th-thanks--" she stuttered, blushing madly and tucking her hair behind her ears. Cutty believed in her.
SHE COULD CONQUER THE WORLD NOW!
Also-how could Cutty just eat a RAW tomato like that? The wonders of the world.
Clearing her throat, she VERY clearly..."Magimus!" she said....PERFECTLY. She SMILED all big--she looked at Cutty for approval--and was READY to try the spell now.......right? Right. Why was he so GOOD at magic? She watched his tomato pull a Phoenix and she just...ugh.
UGH. But she wanted to try-so she would. AHEM. "Maaaamimus--" she said, circling her wand around the apple and watching it.........not.....sparkle. Not on single shiny sparkle. Frowning, she scratched her head with her wand.
WHAT HAD SHE DONE WRONG?

So FOOD was the way to the Porlock's heart? SWEET FOOD?... he had more in common with these things than he realised. Kudos to them. Maybe they'd like come cake one day. Did they like cake???
...
Hhmmm... a question for later.
Zeke was actually looking forward to this activity more than he thought he might. Cause 1) he got to learn a new spell, one he could use time and time again, 2) he got to sample his work and 3) they could hang out near the winged horses. Awesome much?
After watching the demonstration Professor Thompson gave them, Zeke waited for the signal before moving forward to select himself a fruit. There really only was one choice.
LEMMMMOOOOOOON!
.... So once he had his hand around the yellow sour treat, he moved himself further back to allow other people space. Fun fun fun!

Holding the freshly casted upon tomato up to his face, Cutty took a deep whiff of it. Different from before, though not like a persimmon it was definitely replete with sugary notes. He placed the tomato down upon his desk and considered it a job well done.
Eden, though...
He saw yer and the struggle was apparently real for the half-blood. Then she did something sort of careless by pointing her wand directly at her own head to scratch with it. Cuthbert reached his hand out to grip the circumference of the wand and pull it away from it's task as a scratcher. "Maa-Gee-Mus." He said sounding it out for her and taking her wand hand, circled her piece of fruit with it. "Now yer give it a go."
Drawing back to his table, the growing snake boy picked up his last remaining fruit, the lemon and tossed it in the air before holding it up to his face. Cutty twirled his wand in small jerky twists to adjust his grip then casted at the unsuspecting ambassador to sourness. "Magimus.", he said circling the little lemon and watching as the sparkles did their thing.

Eden grew frustrated kiiinda' easily and...it was hard when she just couldn't focus right--for MANY reasons, yeah? When Cutty moved her wand from her head-she frowned. "Sorry--" she said softly and felt less than mediocre. She actually felt pretty stupid right now.
Magimus. She had a hard time with this word. If it didn't come out MAGIMOOOOOSE it came out MARGIMUS like her accent wanted it to. "Magimus..." she said under her breath. She the apple out in front of her and circled it with her wand. "Magimus..." she didn't try to be fancy or forceful with her tone or anything. She just needed to get the word RIGHT for Merlin's sake.
This time, though, when she said the magic word, the light from her wand connected with the skin of the apple--and almost instantly, it was SHINY and...ugh. So pretty. She wanted to gift it to Phoenix. Her little Sparkles would ADORE sparkly fruit...however...it would taste like pure SUGAR but...she was sure he'd get over it.
Smiling to herself, she took a CRUUUNCHY bite of the apple and was quite pleased. It was sweet. She held the apple in one hand, maneuvered her quill with the other, and scribbled a note...then, she ripped out the page and folded it, passing it to Cutty. "There. Thanks." she said, letting her face look as blank as possible. Because she wanted him to READ the note. "Did I do a good job?" she asked, as well, her tone an attempt at....calm.

The task seemed easy enough, and the incantation for once was not a tongue twister.
"Magimus," Zeke said out loud, testing the word on his tongue. "Magimus.... maa-gee-mus...magimus... magimus," he repeated over and over again. It really was an easy one. Of course, the incantation was only a part of the spell-casting puzzle... not that he was at all concerned about the wand movement.
Unholstering his Larch, Zeke held it firmly between his fingers and then traced a small circle in the air. Then, with the lemon sitting on his palm, he tried it again, this time tracing his wand in a circle around the fruit. Easy as beanslemons, right? RIGHT!
After clearing his throat, and going over it in his head, Zeke braced himself to perform the task. Maa-gee-mus... he wouldn't forget. And SWWWEEEEET, he wanted his lemon SWEEEEET.
Tracing a circle with his wand around the fruit he clearly recited the incantation, "Magimus."

Cutty eyed the surface of Eden's apple, which indeed did seem shinier by comparison and when she took a bite out of it the smell was strong enough to confirm to him that she seemed to have been successful in her quest to alter it's sweetness, despite her initial troubles with the incantation.
Then she was scribbling down a note, which she passed to him. He didn't feel like he needed her classnotes, but whatever. Let the lady feel helpful. "I'm sure you have and will." He said pocketing the note and going back to his lemon. "Booht, just fer fun. Let's see yer do it one more time?"

....
DID IT WORK?
Zeke observed his lemon. It didn't LOOK any different... but, was it? There was only one way to find out. Shrugging to himself, Zeke raised the lemon to his lips and took a moment to sniff it before sinking his teeth into it.
ERGHBLEUGH!!!..... though, still yum...
Face screwed up from the sour ZING, Zeke licked the flavour off his lips.
Talk about a fail...
A look of determination crossed his face as he loosened his grip on his wand. Relax Rogers. Relax! Focusing on making his lemon super sweet, Zeke repeated the spell. Circling his wand around the lemon, he repeated, "Magimus."
This time there were some sparks formed inside his imaginary circle - though they didn't last long, they were there. Feeling more confident this time, Zeke sunk his teeth into the lemon flesh and ripped off a bit with his teeth....
...
... and it tasted GOOOOOOOOOoooooooooOOOOOOOOOD!
Zomg.
Seriously though, could he just like... finish this one? It was all in the name of science, testing if it worked and whatnot.

Brooklyn had stayed quiet during the whole discussion of porlocks and what their importance was. They did sound important, but she wasn’t worried about tricking them into trusting her. She was amazing at that skill, so there. The part where they took care of horses was interesting though, if she’d had horses. It made her wonder if her aunt had any horses, and if she had any porlocks. Not a question Professor Thompson could answer, so she stayed quiet. The tomato had sort of made more sense now, too. It still seemed weird to eat a tomato, but if it was sweet she might have tried it. Hopefully the porlocks would try it.
Nobody else seemed too worried about that, but she still took her time in selecting a fruit. Definitely not a lemon, no matter what. The tomatoes still seemed weird to her, especially if she failed in casting the spell. She was not going to be tricked into biting into a raw lemon or tomato, thank you very much. Therefore, she took a green apple. Apples were okay to eat raw, and green just made it better. More to her taste, honestly, but if it was supposed to be sugary sweet, she’d try the spell. Plus, horses liked apples too, so it’d probably be given to them if she didn’t try the spell.

Fruit was selected, and now it was time to practice the incantation. Looking over to Adi, AJ couldn't help but laugh that he had also picked a lemon to work with. It seems like they are always on the same wave length even when it came to simple tasks.
Magimus. It seemed simple enough. "Magimus, magimus, magimus." Three times was a charm, yes? The whole drawing a circle thing over the fruit seemed like something she didn't need to practice, but she really wanted to get the done correctly, and on the first attempt. So, here went nothing.
Her wand went around in a circle, and a snort escaped from deep in her throat because that was pretty dumb. Anyways...
AJ held the lemon in her left hand and traced a circle over the fruit. "Magimus." Erm. Sparks did happen, but they weren't all BOOM in your face. Would that matter? There was only one way to find out.
Angel looked at the Professor and smiled, she was right. That was amazing and now she had something to do, though she wasn't sure about this, she didn't want to do anything bad to the animal, she had a dog at home but she was more into plants and stuff like that.
Angel went and picked up a lemon before moving so someone else could come and get a fruit. She wasn't really into sweet stuff and she wondered if she could test it on Benny since her boyfriend liked sweet and sour things, but first she had to practice the spell that made it sweet.

The lemon was halfway to his mouth when Adi looked over at AJ upon hearing her beautiful laugh. Hehe. She had chosen a lemon too. "Copying me, huh?'' He was kidding but it never surprised him when a whole lot of the time they ended up thinking like each other.
Anyway, a taste test needed to be done, yes? Not bothering to remove any bit of skin from the lemon, Adi sunk his teeth into it. He promptly made that funny face when one ate something toooooo sour. Bleh! "Definitely sour,'' he said to himself, having recovered a tiny bit.
''Magimus!" Concentrating fully, the Puffer traced his wand around the fruit on his palm. Sparks happened once more but this time the lemon seemed different... more shiny as Thompson had described. Did this mean his spell was done correctly?
Feeling even more confident now, the fifth year bit into the fruit and grinned. Yup! Allllll the sour was gone!

Most of what was being said around her made sense. Or at least it seemed to make sense, for the moment. Silently taking down a mental note of what was being said and explained by the Professor Hady allowed her eyes to scan over the area around her.
That was before she had something that had to be done. Picking a fruit wasn't really all that hard...for she didn't care which one she picked. So following everyone else to the large basket the small snakette plucked a lemon from inside and moved out of the way. Examining said fruit she decided it was perfectly fine and prepared herself to move on to the next step.
Angel now had to try and practice the spell. "Magimite." Angel had no idea why she said that because that wasn't the spell, she started to giggle when she realised she was thinking of a character from one of her favourite shows. "No that's not right." She whispered to herself as she stopped giggling and put on a straight face.
"Magimus!" Angel was sure that was right. "Mag...I...mus!" Angel enjoyed this. "Magimus! Magimus,!" Angel was sure that she now had the incantation down and she realised she now just needed to learn the wand movement.
Angel then started to slowly start making circles around the lemon that she had, she wanted to make sure it was perfect before she tried to do the spell, she did it not one, nor twice but three times before she was satisfied that everything was ready for her attempt.

Food and treats and stuff being too sweet.
Benny was listening intently as Professor Thompson answered their suggestions before moving on to explain his plan. Sweetening fruit. No wonder the man had been able to eat that tomato the way he had been before class had started. It had to have been made sweeter and easier to eat by him sucessfully casting the spell on his own. Same as the lemon he had just decided to demonstrate on. Though personally, Benny wouldn't have a problem with the lemon regardless.
Well maybe not one to just bite through the skin like that.
Looking over the three options of food objects to work with, Benny settled on the apple. Something that could be sweet naturally but not too sweet to start with. "You do that..." he remarked in half jest at Adi's comment about the lemon in regards to his love of sour stuff. Retrieving one from the collection, he stepped back to his spot as he ran the incantation over in his head a few times.
Magimus. Maa-Gee-Mus...Magimus. Maa-Gee-Mus... When he was settled back besides his best friend he had switched to the wand movement...tracing circles around the fruit in his hand.
Toby clicked his tongue against the roof of his mouth as Thompson spoke, considering all the things as he tried to commit all this stuff to memory, though he was sort of fighting a lost cause there. The basic points were that they were going to feed the Porlocks fruit that they were magicking to make extra sweet. And shiny. Shiny sweet.
When they were set to work, Toby went ahead and picked up an apple (normal horses liked apples normally, right? seemed like the logical choice even if it wouldn't be as much of a challenge as, say, a lemon) to try casting the spell on, and got his wand out ready. He didn't try it straight away, though, but tilted his head thoughtfully at the apple as he tossed it in the air and caught it a few times. Thinking, thinking.
Eventually, Toby glanced over at Professor Thompson and half-raised his hand to get the man's attention.
"Professor Thompson," he started, now casually twirling his wand between his fingers as he had a tendency to do. "So, these Porlocks, they're distrustful of humans, right? But is it that their level of distrust isn't quite high enough that they'll refuse food offered? Or does their need to protect the Winged Horses from having this sweet stuff sort of overpower that? The need to protect and guard overpowers their own discomfort, like."
Because if it was that, then Toby could definitely relate.
"I only ask 'cause there's creatures like Knarls who are super suspicious, which means they don't trust people, and if you offer them milk or something they freeeeeak out." SORT OF LIKE how Toby might react to being offered ice cream. Sort of. "So I wondered how they're different with this." Since, Y'KNOW, all creatures were diverse and amazing and awesome.
Toby twirled his wand again, and looked back at the apple. So. This spell then. Best get to it.

Holding the lemon in her hand Hady was ready to move on to the next step. "Magimus...Magimus...Magimus" She muttered quietly under her breath while backing away from everyone else to give herself some space. Near the fence she knelt down to sit on the grass making herself a bit more comfortable still repeating the spell under her breath.
After going over the spell many many times she was sure she could move on. Pulling her wand out she tried the wand movement several times without saying the spell. Using her wand she made the circle shape around the lemon in her other hand. That was seriously simple enough.
Ready. She was sure of it.
Clearing her throat and focusing her attention on the spell Hady raised her wand and preformed the correct circular movement around the lemon. "Magimus!" She recited clearly at the time.
Ooooh food! Was this gonna be fun or WHAT? Norah whispered the incantation under her breath as she stood, bouncing from foot ot foot. "Magimus. Maaagimus. Ma-geee-mus." She continued her stream of words as she approached the fruit, just sticking her hand between the students already there to pick one at random.
Once she had returned to her spot, the third year inspected it allll over. A lemon! This was gonna be HARD. Norah cradled her lemon on her arms as she whispered the incantation a few more times. "Magimus......magimus...magimus."

It was the moment of truth.......time for Janelle to taste her apple. With a little bit of uncertainty, she raised the apple to her mouth and took a small bite. Hmmmm. Well, it tasted a little sweet, but probably no sweeter than a normal apple. So this was a fail. There was no way that the Porlocks would go for this apple. Definitely not sweet enough.
So it was back to the drawing board for Janelle. She got her thoughts together and prepared to try again. With the apple still in her hand, she stared at it. "You will be sweet this time", she said to the apple.
Then Janelle raised her wand again and made a circle around the apple. "Magimus", she said with as much authority as the eleven year could muster. This time, however, the result was a bit different. This time the apple began to sparkle, really sparkle. Janelle now had a glittery apple and she hoped that it would taste better than before. Hopefully.

Margo wasn't so sure she'd want to share the sweet fruit one she's tasted it! But this lesson sure sounded like fun! So with out further ado Margo marched up to the basket looking for the best tomato that she could find. Searching through Margo was really going to take her time with this. She wanted to find the best one in the bunch for her little porlock, well that was assuming she could get the spell to work in the first place.
Finding a rather large tomato that looked perfect Margo smiled. "Got you!" She said to her tomato....good goodness she was talking to fruit now....jeepers.....
But Agatha had listened to the incantation carefully and supposed she could do it right this time. At least what she had heard was the exact same as the others were saying, so maybe this time she would learn it fast enough.
"Magimus." ....!!? "Magimus." Morgana, that sounded about right!
Lucky her there was no blackboard to read the instructions from. That was always what broke her.
The Slytherin went over to get a fruit, always repeating the incantation in her head so she wouldn't forget it. Agatha did like tomatoes so she chose one of those and also because the professor had been eating one, so they were probably tasty already, no harm done if she got the spell wrong. "Magimus."

Okay, she had her fruit that she took extra special care to pick out and now Margo was ready try and make it sweet.....all though why the little creatures wouldn't just want to eat a regular tomato Margo had no idea.
Smiling she pulled out her wand and gave it at try. "Maximus." Margo said pointing her wand at the tomato.....wait no.....that wasn't right. She had said the spell wrong to begin with...ugh...face palm....
"Magimus" Margo stated, there that sounded better, much better. Drawing her wand around the tomato Margo said it begin to sparkle slightly!!! Awesome it was working!! It was WORKING!!! Margo couldn't help but smile, her magic must be getting stronger!
