Notes. Notes. More notes. When are they going to brew? Are they even going to brew something today? Ethan started to draw doodles on his notes as his mind wandered. He can't help but think of the muggle chemists outside their world and their inventions. He kind of...felt bad for them because their creations seem to be so mundane compared to what he can do. Looking up at the professor, and at the new writings on the blackboard, Ethan raised his hand to answer. "It can help solve crimes, sir." What? Sherlock was a chemist and he gets to solve crimes faster with chemicals and stuff. It's pretty cool, actually. Now, if only Simon could tell him more about his dad's profession... |
Puck had taken notes almost all class now. Really she wished she had a quick quotes quill to copy down all of the EVERYTHING on the board. Groans were imminent. She just wanted it to be winter break already. But then again Professor C was asking cool questions. ”….So” what was the claw girls name? ”phie, mentioned ‘saving’ lives, but its my understanding that they can also be used for harm and in some instances to kill or seriously maim.” because really...killing and maiming were related...sometimes one followed the other, and sometimes...it was the other way around. C'mon the Cadaver Synod wouldn't have gone the way it did...not really. |
Kevin hadn't even bothered trying to answer the previous question because as a Pureblood, he didn't know that much about the muggle world. He knew stuff like TV's computers and wbatnot but muggle potions? Nope. So instead of even bothering to answer he grabbed his phoenix feather wand out of his wrist holster and began to spin it between his fingers. Theory was boring to him and he did have to perfect the spinning thing because it looked so cool! At the next question, Kevin nearly dropped his wand but caught it before it could hit the ground. Anyways, he TOTALLY knew this answer! And he grinned as he continued to twirl the wand again. "It does everything actuallly but for example if you drank some veritaserum you would speak the truth and nothing but the truth..." he stopped spinning the wand now. ".i wanna make that " Ooooooooh! Maybe he could try and convince him to help brew that potion in the room lab?! Purely for eh...academic purposrs....and then he could sneak some with him and pour it in the drinking goblets at the great hall and watch the CHAOS " |
Samantha noticed that some of her fellow students gave almost the same answer so she decided to be more specific. "Potions can affect or control emotions such those felt by love potions or hate potions," she said. |
Angel looked at the professor and raised her hand. "A potion can go BOOM if you want it to happen." Angel said truthfully. "Seriously all it takes is one wrong drop of an ingredient and you are needing a new room to experiment in." |
Jasmine was finding his theoretical class to be more interesting than she thought she would. She continued to take notes, listening to everyone's different opinions. When the next question came, she raised her hand again. "Potions can do many things, but to choose something specific........they can heal illness and injuries. Kind of like an extra magical chicken soup." Jasmine looked at Dot as she said this. Actually, Essence of Dittany had popped into her mind, among other things. |
Adi grinned at Angel's answer to the fourth question. Benny would certainly like that reply. Who knew more about Potions exploding than he did? The Puffer raised his hand once more. "Potions can make us change our appearance.'' Like the Polyjuice Potion. |
Hadleigh lifted her quill to her parchment and began taking notes as the Professor and students around her spoke. There sure was a lot of note taking being done today. Not that it mattered really but she thought this was the most she'd had to write in one class so far. Keeping her notes neat and readable was important right now. Checking over what she had written she looked up just in time to hear the next question. She knew an answer that hadn't been said so far and raised her hand into the air. "Potions can make you feel something for someone else that you might not normally feel, like love or hate." Just like the Hate Potion they had brewed. |
This lesson was moving, and fast. AJ wasn't her normal speedy self, and found herself trying to catch up. What were the other questions even being asked? She blinked a few times, and decided that she would get with her sister after the lesson was over. The next question that was asked, AJ was ready for it. "Potions can make you super strong, like Batman." Oh yeah, she was still thinking about that potion they were able to brew last term. Awesome stuff, that was. |
"No offense, sir, but Potions can wreck your house points in a hurry," WHEW BOY could they. BUt that was all in the past now and CULLY MAN kept liking Z's answer and smiling. They were TOTES BFF now! hehe. Hehe. AND TWO HIGH FIVES! Man. Cool dude. Crazy, but cool. ".... you sure you don't want us to brew something today, Professor? Come on, admit it, you're itching to bring out the cauldrons." Teehee! Zahra scratched all over, pretending to ITCH ALL OVER like Cully was! teehee |
You know what Ruby wasn't doing? Paying attention. Like really. Totally not paying attention in the slightest. Daydreaming actually. Twisting a strand of her hair around her little finger and staring into space. Soon as she'd realized the class wasn't a practical one she had zoned out. Every now and then she nodded, and faked an interested look which she had perfected back home with the tutors. ..... yep. Not paying any attention whatsoever. |
Silas would agree Muggles cannot brew potions. Mhm. Nope. But he would have mentioned tonics they have as something similar to potions... and especially liquid medicine. Mhm. But whatever. MOVING ON! "Potions can make you think you're in love... even when you're not." Just an example. "So with that being said, they can manipulate your emotions." Right? |
YAY she had gotten it RIGHT. Eden mentally high-fived herself...and blinked as he fired another question at them. MERLIN. Eden didn't like the fast pace. Oooooh no. She could quite easily get lost in it al. She thought of some of the potions she knew of...there were just SO many to choose from, yeah? Was she taking notes?! YIKES. She had kind of forgotten for the last few minutes--she quickly scribbled down what she had heard and stuff before thinking on the question some more. Everyone else was giving greeeeeeat answers, and Eden just couldn't THINK. Ugh. She raised her hand slowly, and blushed a little. "Some potions...well there's that one that causes eternal sleep." She said with a nod. It reminded her of Sleeping Beauty or something. That old fairy tale...now Disney movie? Hmm. She wondered if REALLY happened?! And THAT'S what happened to her?! That'd be such an interesting way to---- She quickly snapped out of it and tried to keep up. So...no potion making today?! Eden was starting to like this particular class. |
SPOILER!!: This! Gabriel was diligently writing; too much so to answer the next question. Hand and quill flying across the page, eyes narrowed in concentration, he was making sure to not miss a word...and there were a bunch of words. Though, it he were to answer, he'd have suggested the sleeping potion again...Gabe was deftly familiar with that particular potion. Anxiety caused by severe insomnia had once been a thing...Not it was just anxiety and stress because he had anxiety and stress. SPOILER!!: Potions' notebook! ...or...actually, he was going to answer, anyway...but with something different, because a girl had just mentioned the sleeping potion. Lame. Gabe had a rhythm going with the public speaking thing, though. So, why not? "They can enhance your memory." |
What could potions do? What couldn't they do??! Their application required some finesse, but generally once you got it going, there was little the target could do for defense. "Put the ball in yer court, so to speak." The one called Cutty said raising his hand and pulling a face as he realized he'd have to explain that in more detail. "Potions, unlike spellwork are hard to apply because they can need so much forethought, booht...Once yew've applied them, unless yer opponent has a bezoar or thought enough to know what potion yew've used to brew an antidote yew've more or less gotten full control over the situation." Did that make sense? "It's tricky, booht in alorra ways I like them betteh." He said confirming just one of many strategies one had at one's disposal when considering the possibilities of what potions could do. |
Scribble....... scribble....... scribble....... Why was this interesting? He had no freaking idea. But he found himself willingly writing down as much as he could and it had NOTHING to do with the countless number of times his mum had mentioned the OWLs to him. Nothing. Nope. It was also interesting to note down the word 'voodoo'. Muggles were so freaking weird, sometimes. Voodoo dolls. He'd seen one too many horror movies about those weird items. As for the question, Grayson paused his writing to raise his hand in the air, quill and all. "Potions can kinda effect the outcome of a situation, too. Like Felix Felicis. Or the opposite of it. You take a few drops of either one and you're more likely to succeed or fail at something. Be lucky or unlucky." And there was a smirk on his face because he HAD the second potion. Had he used it? Not yet. Quote:
This answer? This reasoning? This was why he got along with the fourth year so well. Smirks for you, Mordaunt. |
Oooooh. OOH. Toby had a good one. He threw his hand in the air. "Sometimes they don't have to be used to make things happen," he offered. "Somethings they can used to like... keep things stable, or the same. Like... your mood or... whatever." Yeah. Or whatever. |
Beauty was thoroughly fascinated by this lesson. Her bright eyes skipped from person to person as they spoke, her mind collecting and reviewing each piece of information. She couldn't wait to tell Beast all about this. Or find more books on potions. Or brew potions herself! This was exciting. Switching her gaze back on the professor, Beauty shot him a cheery BEAM. The girl inside her head jumped at the sight of him. This was probably the only time she wasn't brooding. Potions = happiness. Noted. Her hand shot up into the air, bouncing in her seat. "Professor Culloden, potions can manipulate people into doing things without their control. For example we have Veritaserum, it forces the drinker to say the truth even if the wish not to." All in all, "Potions can be used to manipulate others, not just oneself." Interesting, wasn't it? |
Text Cut: A few of you! The blackboard added what they said, again, as Cosgrach generally kept silent. He smiled at everyone who answered, of course, to encourage them. This lesson would be enjoyable only if they shared their ideas. Text Cut: Blackboard Clearly the last phrase was his addition. He walked to the front and looked at a few faces while waiting for them to copy it down. Then, he pointed at it. "This list is rather short, though it does cover many things. So, I guess, we should ask the opposite to define the limits for sure: What can potions not do?" |
HEHE. Okay, so maaaaaybe she had been a little TOO enthusiastic in her response, but at least it got a laugh from Professor Culloden. Beam. Listening to the other responses, some of them were pretty funny, and she smiled to herself as she wrote down more notes. What COULDN'T potions do? What a good question! Raising her hand, she said, "They can't give you hugs." But she was okay with that. Boyfriend hugs were the best kind anyway. |
Major catching up. ALL the questions. Layla liked the Professors answer to her question, it was jokey and light and it made her smile in response which she didn’t do often. She let out a very slight giggle, not bright and frilly like other girls and it only lasted a second anyway but nevertheless she did… WOAH! How fast was he GOING?! Layla merely had to blink before a new question was asked and with all these magical born students in the room she had NO chance of being able to quickly look up the answer before getting involved. The Ravenclaw sighed and held her quill poised as the questions were fired out. The first was quite simplistic in nature. ‘What is a potion?’ If she had the chance to answer she probably would’ve come up with something like ‘a liquid based formation that is designed in order produce an effect of its drinker.’ That was what SHE interpreted it as anyway with no reading up in the textbook. The other students had different answers though and the Ravenclaw waited for the professors answer before she wrote anything done. Just because she wanted the most accurate response possible. The next question was asked and the fifteen-year-old tilted her head in deep thought. This was more difficult to answer because it was a little subjective and what some people thought could be considered a potion might technically NOT be one. Personally Layla would’ve proposed elixirs, ointments, draughts and antidotes as they seemed to be the most common ones to come up in her textbook. However the amount of responses that came up was a little overwhelming and the Blonde scanned them over on the board one by one. The following question was MUCH more interesting and the muggle-born was very interested in putting forward her own ideas if the OTHER students in the room kindly shut their mouths for a while. But by the time the Professor had got round all the students they were moving on. She frowned inwardly keeping HER thoughts in her own head. Personally she felt like a potion in wizarding terms was a lot different to muggle terms. A potion with her own ‘people’ would probably be something like skin cream or a face mask. Something people were able to put together themselves to help improve an aspect. They weren’t necessarily behaviour changing but they COULD change them physically. In terms of being able to brew their potions Layla did have to disagree. She was sure that magic would be required to brew the perfect lot otherwise there would be a lot more muggles that had exploited that path and quite frankly she knew none. And then came the last question and Layla was finally able to propose something before they moved on. Her hand shot up as she waited to be chosen. “Potions can be used to physically alter an aspect of your appearance. Like beauty potions, they can heal you of your acne and whatever.” She spoke in her south London accent. Not that she really cared about her appearance.. Much. Girl was kinda girly but mostly sporty. Her hair was usually tied in a ponytail unless she really tried. She scribbled the answers down in her notes before looking back up and waiting for the next question. Which followed in hot pursuit. The Ravenclaw sighed and thought about the proposal. She wasn’t entirely sure but she was going to hazard a guess anyway. “Is it at all possible for a potion to alter emotions permanently? I’ve read that a lot of emotion based effects are only temporary.” Perhaps it was more of a question but she wasn’t sure anyway. Other potions might have permanent effects though, such as ones that seriously injured. |
Major Catch Up! SPOILER!!: Le Professor! Kace was dazing like hardcore. This just was not his day, when he answered the professor question they moved on. He was just having one of his off days. He shrugged it off and continued to the second question. What were types of potion. He was glad his classmates answered for him because he had no idea. He copied his first set of notes.... SPOILER!!: Kace's Notes Then there was more notes to add! Man this professor was going really fast this lesson. He copied down what types of potions there are. Apparently he couldn't ask what they meant because he needed to look them up for himself. That seemed a bit hard. He continued scribbling and scribbling. SPOILER!!: More Notes! Then he heard the question the professor asked the class and wondered can a muggle brew our potions? Do they have potions of their own? Hmm good question. He waited to see and saw the professor was writing on the blackboard. He didn't have time to answer with all his copying. He added more to his book. SPOILER!!: Even more notes about muggles Now onto the last question. Man his hand was aching. He didn't like taking this much notes. But if it will help him. The professor wanted to know what potions do? He saw the professor writing on the board and added even more to his notes. Man this was just a note taking class. SPOILER!!: Notes on what potions can do Whew! Now onto what potions can't do. It seemed logical. He thought about it and raised his hand before speaking, "Erm professor the potions can't grant you eternal life?" He thought it was rumor. At least he could take a break from note taking from a bit and was twisting his wrists and felt cracking. |
Soph was still noting answers every now and then, scribbling her self-inking quill swiftly across her parchment with a concentrated expression when something actually worth noting came up, but for the most part, she already KNEW a lot of this stuff, so it was... kind of boring. Potions class. Boring. It was a strange concept she'd never fathomed could be true. To his next question, Soph snorted a little to herself at her own thoughts and stuck her hand in the air. Heh. "Using a potion can't make ya rich." Well? It was true. "Not directly, at least. But if you created the potion, s'pose y'could make money that way." Like THEY WOULD DO SOME DAY. And she supposed a potion that enhanced one's self-confidence could indirectly result in becoming rich, too, perhaps, but... she left it at that, grinning away. |
Angel looked at the Professor and raised her hand. "Professor a Potion can't make itself." Angel thought it would be funny if it could but well she didn't think it could." |
Tough one... there was a potion for EVERYTHING! After a few moments thought he raised his hand. "Well a potion can't ACTUALLY make someone fall in love. It only makes one think they are, until the affects wear off." |
