The class hasn't changed this year too: the proper chairs with soft cushions are still there to sit and lean back on, and they are still charmed to take the most comfortable shape and height once a student is seated. The walls are still a soft, calming blue. There are still one big, grey rubbish bin by the door and a white, porcelain washbasin with a tap for those who wants to wash their hands before/after the class and who can't perform 'Aguamenti' charm (a short hose to direct the water to the cauldron is on the white, porcelain shelf hung on the wall, in case it doesn't fit the washbasin).
Professor Cosgrach is sitting at his desk, looking a little tired but well otherwise.
OOC: If you are going to RP your characer use the washbasin or the bin, you don't have to take Cosgrach's permission. Just assume he has granted it.
The class HAS begun, so please don't post yourself late but pretend as if you've been here all the time.
Potion Progress
1 jobberknoll feather
half a unicorn tail hair
three leech head
half a ginger root
ten carrots
a bunch of knotgrass
one wormwood
ten crow feathers
one common spider

Add the jobberknoll feather without any water or fire
Lay half the unicorn hair onto the feather vertically.
Add a litre of water
Add the leech heads one by one
With a metal stick, stir it clockwise for ten times (Clean the metal stick before and after using)
Add half the ginger root
Wait for two minutes
Add ten cubes of ice all at once
Wait until they melt and grate five of the carrots in the meantime. Add the ungrated ones at once, and sprinkle the grated ones
Tie the wormwood around knotgrass and add them (If everything has been right, the steam will make you nauseous)
Stir eleven times clockwise with wooden stick. Do clean it before using.
Add two crow feathers. Stir once clockwise with metal stick. Add another two feathers and stir clockwise with metal stick again. Go on like this until all feathers are added. Do not stir after the last couple of feathers. (You don't have to remove metal every time to clean it - just keep it inside the cauldron until last feather is added.)
Add the spider
Add one crocodile tooth, wait until the potion grumbles, then add the second
Wait until the potion turns your favourite colour (takes about 3 days)
Colour: is the favourite colour of the person who's looking at it
Effect: It makes you hate the first person you see, sharpens your tongue: you are very ready to point out the faults of that person
The taste is bitter and will remain for a day
Duration: Depends on the drinker - if they are prone to hatred, it'll be longer (roungly 3-5 hours)
Effect on drinker: He/she will experience fatigue once the effect wears off

Alright, alright, alright. The two minutes were up, so he went up to where the prof was keeping the ice cubes and gathered ten into his clean beaker.
He returned to his work area to catch Grayson speaking French to some new kid. Pfffffffffffft, show off. He did not need a potion to make him hate him because that job was already long done. Anywho, he needed to cool down and focus. Coooool. Like these ice cubes that he was pouring into his cauldron.
So while they melted, he was suppose to grate five carrots. Five carrots, right? Yeah, five carrots. Dec had grated about 3 and half and then paused to stretch around his wrist that was cramping up. He took this moment to look around and checkout his classmates' progress. He'll keep his opinions to himself on this. Back to finishing off the rest of the to-be-grated carrots. The boy peeked over at the ice to see if it was melted to find that it was. Woooo. He added the 5 other ungrated carrots and sprinkles the grated bits over it.
Now, to tie the wormwood around the knotgrass. It took a couple of tries because his fingers kept fumbling whenever he'd try to knot it until finally he was able to. Voila, into the cauldron they go.

Benny was keeping a close eye on his watch, not wanting to wait too long or two short a time, the boy resuming his whistling while he waited. "Nah...I think that will be too distracting." He didn't want to cause troublke for himself and his classmates. Whistling was just fine with him. Finally the hand on his watch moved to the correct point and the Gryffindor nearly bounced out of his seat to go and retrieve the ice cubes.
With that he returned to his station and added all eleven ice cubes into the cauldron at once as instructed. More waiting was next and Benny absently let his hands beat out a rhythm on the countertop as he started his wait. "Woops," he eventually said realizing he was supposed to grate while he waited, the fourth year grabbing his grater and his wand as well. "Scourgify."
Another clean tool.
Grate...grate...grate...grate.
Eventually all five carrots that needed to be grated with time to spare. Benny's fingers once more found their rhythm on the counter in front of him, careful not to spill or knock anything over. "Thanks," he said as Angel recipricated his compliment with one of her own on his work. So much happier this way. Looking to see his ice cubes had melted, he added in the whole carrots before sprinkling the grated pieces over the top. "Sprinkle...sprinkle...sprinkle."
Right...he agreed silently with a nod. AJ was just observing. Another set of eyes on his work. He must be fascinating today.
Now the last two ingrediants for now were the wormwood and knotgrass and everyone seemed to be curious about them. So Benny listened himself to what might be said about both plants as he tied his own bunch of knotgrass with his wormwood before adding the bundle in as well.

They had to wait two WHOLE minutes before moving on, which gave Dot time to check on how Kyroh was doing. And Dima. HI, DIMA. She wiggled her fingers at him, but he had a potion to work on. Come to think of it... so did Dot. Good thing the professor was offering up ice cubes, because she'd probably have wandered off during the terribly loooooooong two minutes otherwise.
The very moment her two minutes were up, Dot dumped all ten ice cubes into the cauldron, then scrambled up on her seat to peer at her potion up close. The ice cubes needed to melt completely before she could do anything else and oops, were her eyebrows smoking a little bit? Maybe being this close to the hateful hate potion wasn't a great idea. Dot scrambled back off of her stool, smoothing away at her eyebrows and robes to make sure she wasn't horribly deformed now.
All good. Perhaps, while she waited for the ice cubes, it would be a good time to work on the carrots? Was it weird that she sort of was getting hungry as she worked? Dot carefully cleaned off her grater and then shredded her first carrot into tiny bits. How little? Big bits or little bits or practically salt flakes? And did they all have to be the same size, or could there be some variety? 'Cause Dot's ice cubes were melted and she was tired of grating and maybe these last ones could be just sort of chunks and not really grated?
With just a little peek at her desk mate, Dot quickly dumped her ungrated carrots into the cauldron. They disappeared beneath the surface of the liquid, and she sprinkled the grated (and sort of grated) carrots over the surface of the water. YES GOOD. BRING ON THE NEXT STEP.

The two minutes were up. Samantha fetched a small metal bowl and cleaned it by aiming her wand inside and saying, "Scourgify." She used the same spell on her tongs and gloves. Samantha then headed for the teacher's desk and using her tongs grabbed ten ice cubes and placed them into her bowl. She walked back to her cauldron and tipped the ice cubes carefully into her cauldron. She then cleaned the tongs and bowl using, "Scourgify."
Whilst she was waiting for the ice to melt, Sam grabbed her grater and aimed her wand at it and performed the cleaning spell. She grabbed five carrots and began to grate them carefully so that there were no accidents. After she grated the carrots, Sam added the five whole carrots into the cauldron and then she sprinkled the grated carrot over the potion's surface. She then pointed her wand at her grater and said, "Scourgify."
Soon (five minutes) the ice had melted and it was time for the next step. Sam cleaned her gloves and tied the wormwood carefully around the knotgrass and dropped the bundle carefully into the cauldron.

No points then? The boy didn't frown. He simply nodded. There were worse things to worry about, like a certain missing Hufflepuff. "Okay sir. I'll just take my points when I help you invent the hug potion." That was fine and all.
He bowed his head slightly and sighed, waiting for the two minutes to be up. He was just about to reach the one minute and fifty second mark when a voice to the right of him grabbed his attention.
HIS TOBY WAS BACK!
BEAMING at the other boy as he patted his back Kyroh hesitated, then nodded as well. "M'okay!" His smile faded slightly as he nodded again. He wasn't a favourite or anything. But he was okay. Yeah. Toby was back.
And Magdalena was here too!
Kyroh wiggled his fingers at the girl who had basically stolen his Hufflepuff. But it was alright because Tobias was popular and stuff...and at least he was back. "I'll be back." Okay? Okay Toby? He wasn't leaving. He just had to get his ice. The second year slid off his chair and quickly ran up to the front, measuring cup in hand. Glove still on he counted ten cubes plopping them all into the measuring cup. Once he had enough he ran back to his seat.
He returned just in time to hear more of Dot's conversation with Sophie. Wishing sort of that he hadn't. He LIKED being Dot's new freckled friend. But the fact that Dot and Dima knew each other forever..well that just meant that...he would never be a favourite.
Instantly the cup of ice was dumped ALL INTO the cauldron. Sitting on his knees again he gazed in. Huh. Kyroh's hand shot up into the air. "Sir, how's it gonna melt so quickly if there's no fire?" Because....huh?
Anyways.
Grabbing his grater he quickly cleaned it before picking up some carrots. Grating was HARD work. Instead of the little pieces falling into the bowl they mostly just stuck onto the grater. After what seemed like a lifetime, the five carrots were GRATED.

As the two minutes drew to a close, Thornton made his way to the front and offered a smile and a nod as he collected his ice cubes. Hurrying back to his seat, lest they melt at all before he got them into the cauldron, Thornton was a man small boy on a mission. Sitting down, Thornton dropped the ten ice cubes into the mixture.
There. Now, they would get on with the melting and Thornton had grating to do in the meantime. First, he separated his 10 carrots into two piles, one for adding whole and the other to grate.
Looking around the room, he saw people at various stages of the potion, but was feeling quite confident. It was such a nice feeling, and strong contrast to the earlier Astronomy lesson. As he continued to grate the carrots, he made mental notes of the questions he could hear being asked, so he could add them to his notes later.
As he finished the grating, he peeked into the cauldron, but still saw some cubes. Looking to a clock, he realized he had grated faster than estimated. Since he still had time to wait, he bunched up the knotgrass and securely tied the wormwood around it.
There. Everything was ready to go. He swung his feet as he waited, trying to see what was going on around him. When he checked the potion again, the ice had finally melted. Thornton slipped the five whole carrots into the potion all at once, before pinching the grated carrots between his fingers and sprinkling them on top.
Thornton took a long look at the cauldron, so he could later describe the step in detail, and then added the bundle of knotgrass he'd tied with the wormwood. There.
He slipped his glove off, then, so that he could set himself to the task of recording his steps and observations in his notes.

Steps. There were SO many steps... and they were coming in dribs and drabs so he couldn't get a sense of how much BUSIER the process was going to get ahead of time. Sigh. But on the bright side, he thought he was doing pretty well. That was something, right? RIGHT?
After copying down the added instructions from the board, Zeke went to the front to collect his ten ice cubes and once the two minutes was up, added them to his cauldron. Now... CARROTS!!!........ He liked carrots, twas a shame they hadn't been instructed to eat any of it, it'd make for a good healthy snack for the in between.
Cleaning off his grater first, and giving the carrots a quick wash too, Zeke started grating away on the desired setting.
Grate... grate... grate.... grate.... grate...
The last little knobbly bits were the hardest, but he managed to get those nicely grated too.
Peering into his cauldron, Zeke assessed his ice situation, it needed a moment more he thought, since he could still see a few small pebbles of almost melted ice.
He didn't have to wait MUCH longer though, and once it was clear it was all melted, Zeke added the whole carrots first - ALL AT ONCE, and followed that up by sprinkling the rest over the top. He was actually kinda looking forward to trying his potion, just, maybe not looking forward to hating someone. Awkward.
There was one last step though, before he could sit tight and wait, and that was tying wormwood around knotgrass. A fun task if ever he heard one. It took his fingers some working, but in the end it wasn't a task that would get the better of him, even if it didn't look very pretty the way he did it, it was still done. And in that went too. Now to wait and see what happened next! EXCITING!

I'll-I'll... I'll be alright." And at that he hung his head a little. It'd be his first detention ever. With Culloden of all people. Would he be alright? He actually wasn't sure. If only he could channel his inner Kevin or something. Some more liquid luck would've been nice right about now...
Were his two minutes up? Who even knew at this point. Zander didn't. He could care less about this potion now. He was still too focused on the fact that he got a detention. That he, Zander Adair, got a flipping detention the first lesson!!! HOW DOES THAT EVEN HAPPEN?! And now they had to go get ice cubes from HIS desk? Was it possible to avoid the man all together for the rest of the lesson? And maybe life? What did Sophie even see in this guy?
O________O So many steps at once. And his mind was elsewhere. And this potions thing was just not happening today. Looking towards Kevin to see how his friend was going about things, he followed everyone else to the desk to grab the ice, and walked right back to his desk as quickly as possible. He didn't need to face Culloden for longer than needed. Pouring all the ice into the cauldron, he reached for the carrots. La la la la grating the carrots. And how does a person even tie wormwood around knotgrass? Zander just messed around with the thing and uh, hopefully this was right? If not he could just pretend this hate thing worked. Heck, get him right after the detention and he would definitely be able to pull off the act. Right then, he added everything into the cauldron, along with sprinkling the grated carrots in.

Ten ice cubes now apparently. And then let them melt. That was what he had said anyway. Ruby hadn't looked at the board once since it was too much effort to read it. Those went into the cauldron and then she stared at the professor for a moment. TEN carrots? That was a LOT of carrots. And grating them? Ugh.
No.
Ruby simply waited until the professor wasn't looking so he couldn't get on her case about it and added all ten carrots. Ungrated. There. Nobody would even know.
Had... she heard the next bit right? Tie wormwood around knotgrass? Uh... ok. She did that and chucked it in too.

Waiting wasn’t Brooklyn’s forte, but two minutes wasn’t bad. She could handle two minutes, just by occupying her brain with thoughts about what she could do with this potion later on. Except it seemed like only a minute had passed before Professor Culloden was speaking again and explaining more steps. She spent the next minute writing down the new steps, and then got up to collect ten ice cubes from him. Or more accurately from the bucket he’d placed on his desk, as she used the container she’d gotten her water with to carry them. At least then they wouldn’t melt before she got back to her cauldron. She was getting the distinct impression that wouldn’t have been good, even if they were supposed to let them melt before adding anything else. The instructions weren’t to add ice water.
Thankfully, she got back to her cauldron without too much melting, and they were dropped inside the potion without any stopping. Once that was done, she sat back down and used her wand to clean her grater, grating the five carrots as instructed. The ends were hard to grate, but he hadn’t said they had to be grated well. Pieces seemed fine to her. Standing up again, she looked at the potion. It looked like the ice was melted, so the five ungrated carrots were dumped inside, followed by sprinkling her pieces over the surface. She’d followed the instructions, so there shouldn’t be any problems. All that was left was the wormwood and stuff, so she rifled through her ingredients to look for what she thought were the two. Tying the wormwood around the bunch of grass, she dropped the whole bundle into the cauldron, and then sat down again to wait. She couldn’t exactly do anything when she didn’t know what she was supposed to do.

5. Using a clean metal stick, stir clockwise ten times. Then clean the stick again.
6. Add half of the ginger root.
7. Wait two minutes.
8. Add ten ice cubes.
9. After the ice has melted, add five whole carrots and five grated carrots, sprinkling those on top of the others.
10. Tie the wormwood around the knotgrass and add it.

Maggie beamed at him when he returned before wiggling her fingers back at Kyroh. Hello yes she was here now too. And apparently actually brewing a potion now. What even. She stared down at the ONE ingredient in her PERFECTLY clean (thank you Toby) cauldron and then back to Toby.
Ah yes. His other half of the unicorn hair. "Thank youuuu." Pfft no she was NOT going to cut hers in half if he'd already done all the work FOR her. Sort of. So she took the unicorn hair and lay it onto the feather. Wait...vertically? She leaned over to look at Toby's notes. Yes. Vertically. Vertically to her own position? Probably. At least that's the way she did it.
Next step was to add a liter of water. She could do that. Yep.
Grabbing the beaker Toby had cleaned earlier - she could borrow that yeah? if she smiled at him? nicely? yes? - and walked off to the tap to fill it with water. The right amount. Yep. She wasn't stupid or anything. One liter. She filled until the '1' mark. After that she returned and poured it into her cauldron. Right. That wasn't so hard.
LEECH HEADS ??? ???? ???? ????
Maggie wrinkled her nose and first looked to Toby and then to Kyroh. SERIOUSLY? Excuse me, gross???? Her eyes dropped to the leeches on her part of the desk. At least they were dead. Still. Gross. She poked one of them with the tip of Toby's quill. Ew. With a SIGH she reached for her knife. Cutting off gross insects' (?) heads was not very high on her things-I-like-to-do-list. It wasn't even ON there. There were loads of other things she'd rather be doing right now. Like, watch the others make their potions. Yep.
Eventually she formed a line with the three leeches, pushing them so they were right in front of her. Then she brought down her knife quickly so she cut all three heads off at the same time. CLEVER HUH??? She certainly thought so. Blowing at a strand of hair that had got loose, Maggie took each of the heads between her thumb and index finger and added them to her cauldron, one after the other.
Maggie then stood on top of her chair to make sure she saw everything that was going on inside the cauldron. Which....wasn't a lot. Huh. Reaching for the metal stick she carefully started stiring. While doing that her gaze drifted off to the two boys next to her. She kept on stiring though.
Zahra had accidentally added the leech heads together? Like, okay they sort of went ONE at a time, but well had they really? That probably didn't matter, though she was still peeking over the rim of her cauldron to watch them float around. If they were body-less heads, they would PROBABLY be having fun. Like a heated pool with toys.
Bummer for them.
Next was stirring. "WHIRLPOOL," Zahra WHISPERED LOUDLY to the leech heads, hair, and feather. "You'll like this bit."
Then some VERY GRYFFINDOR stirring went down, TEN TIMES, in what was mostly clockwise.
Another load of instructions. Beverly's hand quickly moved across her parchment, her neat cursive writing probably resembled a bunch of squiggles at the speed she was going. That done, and after retrieving ten ice cubes and looking at her timer, she grinned to herself. She was simply awesome at potions. It was a talent.
Ice cubes in she started on the carrots. What a strange potion ingredient; carrots. She liked them when cut up in little pieces, she liked putting them in Peyton's meals because the redhead hated them, but in potions? Interesting or not, the ungrated carrots went into the cauldron all at once and the grated portion was sprinkled into the solution.
There was something else Culloden had mentioned to add. She glanced at her parchment. Right! The wormwood and knotgrass. Tying the former around the latter, she carefully dunk those into the cauldron.
Three more ingredients to go and she could finally go have a snack. That was a lovely thing to look forward to.

Two minutes wasn't a very long time but it sure seemed that way when you were just watching something like water and other things in a cauldron. Counting under her breath she stopped to listen to the Professors next instructions as they appeared on the board as well. Ten ice cubes?
Slipping from her seat Hady made her way to the front of the room and picked up ten ice cubes. By the time she'd make it back to her desk the two minutes she'd needed to wait was just about up. Carefully she dropped the ten ice cubes into the cauldron.
While the ice was melting she got out her grater and ten carrots? Weird. Putting five of them aside she cleaned her grater and the five carrots she was going to use now as well as her gloves. Grating one, two, three, four and five carrots. Good done with that and just in time too.
Now that the ice was melted in the cauldron she cleaned her gloves again and added the five carrots into it. Cleaning her gloves once more she picked up the grated carrots and sprinkled them into the cauldron over the whole carrots. This was sure turning out to be an odd potion wasn't it?
Turning her attention back to task she cleaned her gloves yet again and the grater before replacing it into her kit. What was the last thing she needed to do? Checking the board quickly she nodded to herself as she searched her kit for the wormwood and knotgrass. Finding them she spelled them both clean. Removing her gloves a moment she fumbled with tying the wormwood around the knotgrass but after a second try she'd got it done.
Taking a deep breath she cleaned her gloves and pulled them back on before cleaning the tied up knotgrass and gently dropped the bundle into her cauldron. Hady then spelled her gloves and her work area clean while waiting for the next instructions.
So far so good. Or at least the small girl hoped so.

It was sort of hard to concentrate on potions when certain freckled f-words and non-freckled f-words were getting finger wiggles from people under consideration who were also freckled. Maddie hadn't got a finger wiggle. She was practically invisible over here but she didn't CARE or anything. She just sort of felt like she was watching her f-words in a way she'd PROBABLY have to get used to. Y'know, from AFAR. They didn't seem to need her around much at ALL. It made her heart do a thing and for a moment the brunette wondered if something had PINCHED it but the feeling was over just as soon as it had arrived. WEIRD. No matter, she had potions to work on. She didn't have TIME for feelings stuff. She just DIDN'T.
"Scourgify." Maddie cleaned a bowl and then her hands before heading up to take care of the ice cubes. She wondered why the potion would need more water as she placed ten into her bowl, knowing they'd eventually melt into the potion. Was there anything special about these ice cubes? Were they more metaphorical? The brunette had questions but no time to ask because she didn't want her newest ingredient to melt before they were added.
Quickly and carefully, the second year returned to her seat and then dumped the ice cubes into the cauldron. She then cleaned the bowl, her hands, and reached for the grater. THAT was cleaned too and she couldn't help but thank Merlin for cleaning spells. Once finished, she secured five carrots and carefully grated them over the bowl.
This took a few minutes and when she was done, Maddie peeked into her cauldron to note that the ice cubes appeared to have melted. This was GOOD news. The brunette cleaned her hands AGAIN and added the five whole carrots into the cauldron. Then after ANOTHER go of cleaning her hands, she began to sprinkle the grated carrots over and into the cauldron.
With that finished, the second year chanced a glance at CERTAIN older Ravenclaws to see how THEY were doing. (Was he STILL shaking?!) And since it didn't SEEM like he was going to blow anything up, she cleaned her hands and busied herself with tying the wormwood around the knotgrass.
Then THAT was added to the cauldron.
Only a few materials left which was good. While she waited for the next steps, Maddie cleaned the bowl and grater she'd used and set them aside. Then she cleaned her hands AGAIN. Potions was awfully monotonous sometimes.

10. While waiting until they melt, grate 5 carrots with CLEAN grater and CLEAN bowl. Add 5 ungrated ones to cauldron and then SPRINKLED the grated ones OVER and into the cauldron.
11. Tie the wormwood around the knotgrass and add THOSE to the cauldron.

So now they had to add the half unicorn tail hair. It had to be vertical to the feather. Got it. She carefully placed the hair vertically over the feather in the bottom of her cauldron. There just like Professor Culloden had shown them. So this whole potions lesson was as bad as her grandma's homeschool Potions lessons so that was good. Really good.
Next they were finally able to add the water to the cauldron. Grabbing up her wand she cast a quick "Aguamenti!" To fill her cauldron with the litter of water. Now this was starting to look more like a potion. And she was doing great. Which made her feel a lot better.
The next step was to add the leech heads. Three of them. And one by one the lioness added the leech heads. One leech head, two leech heads, three leech heads. Taking her wand now that the leech heads were in the cauldron with the potion. She cleaned the metal stick using "Scourgify!" She used the metal stick to stir her potion clock wise ten times 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10. There ten times stirred and now another cleaning of the metal stick. And that was it for that step.
The next step was simple just add a half of a ginger root. She carefully added the ginger root. And now wait two minutes as instructed. She didn't have a timer so she would just keep watch on her watch. That would work too right? She need to the next set of instructions anyway.

Ingredients:

- a bunch of knotgrass
- one wormwood

2) Lay half the unicorn hair onto the feather vertically.

4) Add the leech heads one by one

6) Add half the ginger root
7) Wait for two minutes
"Professor, I was wondering... we can say that when someone is hating someone else we can observe an icy mood lingering between them. Would be the ice the main ingredient of this potion?" She frowned, feigning interest, trying to grate the second carrot. Which she didn't expect was that the carrot had become smaller and she grated her own finger instead.

She took the ingredients, pursed her lips and tried to tie the wormwood around knotgrass. "Somebody help me! I can't tie this wormwood!"
Cosgrach nodded at her, oblivious to her grating and whatnot.
"Not the main ingredient, but it serves for that purpose, yes."
...
And then, after some time, Annabeth had to be dramatic again.
Cosgrach didn't even understand WHY she was SHOUTING, but he was next to her shortly after. Cleaning his hands magically, he placed the wormwood under the knotgrass and bringing two ends of it together, neatly tied it.

Maybe he shouldn't even leave her side. Not that he minded. Questions showed she wanted to LEARN, and that was his job here. So not bothered at all, he was in eye-contact with her again and shook his head at her first question.
"Ice is cold," he said in the simplest form, "and we need cold now." That was the reason they didn't light a fire, but added ice, see? They would keep the temperature low.
"As for carrots, not every ingredient have to be magical. The magic of other ingredients is enough. Carrot itself helps with especially the eyes, both physically and metaphorically to see the faults of that person, and the potioneers still don't know why half of it has to be grated, but this is the best way it works." In potions, as well as in pretty much everything in the world, you just didn't know everything.
"Wormwood is the symbol of bitterness, and it tastes bitter as well Bound with knotgrass, every feeling you have changes into bitterness and hatred."

"No need to start over," he said at last as he looked at her, "but I hope you're aware this'll be a poor work. It's okay, though, I know mistakes happen. You may continue." He shrugged and smiled.
See this, class? He didn't EAT everyone that made a mistake.

Cosgrach wasn't quite in the mood to check every single student, so while he was busy with another one, Kace added the carrots before the ice had melted. Which was a problem, actually. But this was a hate potion, and it hated, well, everything, so it didn't give any warning.

With that he returned to his station and added all eleven ice cubes into the cauldron at once as instructed.
Y'know, this was the phase Cosgrach would expect a student to mess up the least, so he didn't sit down with them and counted their cubes. So he didn't see Benny add eleven too. So he couldn't vanish his potion. And this was a sly potion, meaning it didn't usually warn people if they got a step wrong, and Benny's wasn't different than the rest of the class, so...

"If you have done everything right, the steam from your potion should be visible to the eye and it should make you only slightly nauseous. If you don't feel anything, then you might as well vanish it and start over."
Was that clear? He paused briefly and then continued with reading the next steps.
"Stir eleven times clockwise with wooden stick. Do clean it before using. Then add two crow feathers. Stir once clockwise with metal stick. Add another two feathers and stir clockwise with metal stick again. Go on like this until all feathers are added. Do not stir after the last couple of feathers. You don't have to remove metal every time to clean it - just keep it inside the cauldron until last feather is added."
All clear?
Now, who was vanishing their potions?
OOC: Like Cosgrach has said, the nausea feeling isn't strong enough to make your character vomit. The steams only affect the brewer, so the wrong ones won't be affected by other vapours. Wrong potions do look as if they are all right, though (in case your characters want to fake it ).
This is a catch up point, as I'll post again probably more than 24 hours later.

"Leech heads suck the good memories," he said, "and this potion also makes one's speech very sharp, so ginger roots help with the wits required in finding faults and pointing them out."

...abort thinking mission, Zahra was on move.
Cosgrach watched her somewhat warily, half relieved that she got the water part alright at least, but -
"Please stop or that'll be more'n'a litre."
His wand hand twitched. He wanted to INTERFERE and brew her potion for her if need be, because honestly, she was not learning anything. But he didn't. He held himself back. He didn't want to offend her, now that they were on good terms.
They were on good terms, right?!
Cosgrach was busy with some other student, and it wasn't like he had ten eyes anyway, so he didn't see this one. His potion blurped once, but didn't do anything else otherwise.
...Cosgrach's mouth was open, he was in shock, and all he could do was watching her.
But thankfully, soon enough, she got what he meant, and shortly after she was smiling.
"No... problem." He wanted to point out she was too ready to accuse him of murder only a few minutes ago, but he kept his mouth shut this time. It wouldn't serve them any good now that she was so focused, sooo...
Next student.
Cosgrach looked at her questioningly, not because he counted her stirs too, but because SHE looked panicked.
"Everything alright?"
WHAT did she do?
Jasmine's hand was up? Cosgrach walked to her, confused.
"Yes?" Was something wrong with someone?

"Didn't notice that, sorry." He smiled at her and moved away.
Cosgrach smiled at the boy, happy to see him so enthusiastic. He would make a good potioneer... hopefully? Nothing would please Cosgrach more too.

Because Zander HAD it coming, so he WOULD have it.
Moving on.
"Once two minutes are up, please come here and get ten cubes of ice," he said as he put a big bucket of ice on his desk from under it, "and add them all at once. Wait until they completely melt and grate five of the carrots in the meantime. Add the ungrated ones at once, and sprinkle the grated ones over. If you have been correct all this time, it shouldn't take all the ice longer than five minutes. Then, tie the wormwood around knotgrass and add them as well."
He waved his wand and these steps appeared on the blackboard.
Okay this class was pretty amazeballs actually. Heh. Checking to make sure his two minutes were up he rose and retrieved hos ten ice cubes. Doing as he was told he dumped them all in at once. Bam! Hehehehe. Now grating was happening. Not so fun, but whatevs.
GRATE GRATE. Once that was done he made sure the cubes were melted. Dumping the ungrated carrots in he giggled to himself as they PLOPPED into the water below. Sprinkling the others he cast a sideways glance at Archie... did he need help?

Pursing his lips, Ethan concentrated on the task at hand and proceeded with caution. After he cleaned his container, the prefect got up and got himself 10 ice cubes, and shortly after returning to his work station, he carefully added all ice cubes in his cauldron. He got all ten carrots and divided them into two batches. The first five carrots were grated as he kept an eye on the ice cubes. Once he was done grating the first batch of carrots, he set those aside and checked if his ice cubes were…melted. Already? Shrugging, the prefect added the second batch of whole carrots inside his cauldron with the melted ice, then sprinkled his solution with the grated ones he did earlier. He then carefully tied the wormwood around the knotgrass and added those too inside his cauldron.
Be a translator? Teach him how to speak French fluently? Did Ethan KNOW how much girls swoon at the sound of a French accent? Grayson smirked. Something he thought Ethan probably didn't know about -- unless the dude had managed to find out for himself or whatever -- was the fact that Grayson knew about the Prefect and a certain Ravenclaw lady friend of his. Uh huh. Brows indeed.
"Suuuuure, I can do that." And Grayson would teach him proper words as well as the rude words. He was SUCH a good friend, obviously. "You planning on impressing anyone with it?" Juuuuust so that he knew to teach the boy how to flirt in French.
The looks between Ruby and Ethan were noticed and, frankly, they amused the fifth year. He didn't SAY anything, though. Not when the fumes of his potion had reached his nose, making his stomach churn in disgust. Oh MAN, what was THAT?! His eyes found his potion and he wrinkled his nose at it. Oh jeez, this coming from his potion???? Sweet Merlin!
Trying to ignore the nauseous feeling inside of him, Grayson grabbed hold of the stick and gave it a magical clean before dipping it into his potion. One... two... three... four... five... six... Oh jeez, the fumes. ... seven... eight... nine... ten... ELEVEN! Leaving the stick in there, he cleaned his gloves AGAIN before picking out one...... two of the crow feathers and adding them in too. And a stir clockwise followed.
Jeez, this was gonna take freaking AGES.
Another two feathers were picked out and added into the potion, followed by a clockwise stir with his metal stick. The process continued right up until all the feathers had been added into the potion. THANK MERLIN. If there had been any more than ten, the boy would not have been too happy with this step.
Were they nearly done? He kinda wanted to try out the potion for himself.
In the meantime, he could people!watch. Uh huh. See if anyone -- coughDeclancough -- messed up in the process.

Oh. No answer then? Maybe he didn't speak loud enough. Oh well. Eyes flickering to the clock he noticed that five minutes had been over a minute ago. Oops. Shifting he looked into the cauldron. One minute couldn't effect things that much right? Plus the ice probably wasn't even-oh yeah. It had melted.

"Guess you don't always need fire." Weird. And a shame. He liked fire. Quickly grabbing the whole carrots he dumped them into the potion and the started to sprinkle the grated ones on top.
Sprinkle. Sprinkle. Sprinkllllllllleeee. And a few pieces were even sprinkled into his mouth.
Carrots were good for you. One that was done, Kyroh picked out the wormwood and the knotgrass from his potions kit. Tongue sticking out the second year caaaarefully attempted to tie the wormwood around only to have it slip out of his fingers at the last moment and onto his cutting board. It was a GOOD thing it was clean. Picking it up, he tired again, succeeding this time and once that was finished he plopped it into the potion.
Hm. Potions should come with a nap time.

As Kace was busy waiting for the next set of directions and he noticed the professor was hovering over his potion. He saw his facial expression and realized he did something wrong. He could just feel it. He heard him say if he had done it right, the vapor would be visible to the eye and it wasn't. He didn't even feel nauseous. He was mad because he thought he did soo well. He might as well start over like the professor said. He got his wand out and waved it over the potion and it vanished. He went back to his notebook to make sure he could do the steps right.

Steps:
1) Add 1 Jobberknoll feather without adding water or lighting the flame
2) Lay half a unicorn hair vertically over the feather
3) Add one litre of water
4) Add three leech heads
5) Use clean metal stick to stir the potion ten times clockwise (clean metal stick after using too)
6) Add half a ginger root
7) Wait two minutes
8) Add ten ice cubes
9) Grate five carrots while ice cubes melt. Add ungrated ones at once and sprinkle the grated ones
10) Tie the wormwood around the knotgrass and add them
11) Stir eleven times clockwise with wooden stick
12) Add two crow feathers and then stir once clockwise with metal stick
13) Continue step 12 until all the feathers have been added -- don't need to stir after adding last couple of feathers
Alright so he needed to clean out his cauldron and said, "Scourgify!" and then he added the jobberknoll feather to the bottom. Then he got the unicorn hair and cleaned it and then placed it vertically over the feather. It seemed easier this time. He got his old cup and cleaned it and added a litre of water into it and then poured it into his cauldron. Now he added the three leach heads all at once. Now he needed his metal stick and cleaned it and then stirred ten times clockwise. Then he cleaned it off afterwards and looked at the next step. He needed to add half a ginger root. He cleaned that and then added it it. He looked at the clock and waited two more minutes. Then he got the ten ice cubes and waited for them to melt this time. He didn't wait till they all melted.
He got his shredder and got his grated his five carrots. He cleaned all the carrots first. As he was grating carrot one and then onto number two, the ice didn't completely melt yet. He was now onto carrot number three and it was melting but not there yet. He thought it was getting hot in here. He wiped his forehead with the back of his hand and then grated carrot four and the ice wasn't melted all the way. Now onto carrot five, he noticed it was all water. Jeez as soon as he looked away the ice melts. He added the ungrated ones first and then got his shredded pieces and sprinkled it on like a cook would. Now he tied the wormwood around the knotgrass and was finished with that. Then he checked the last few steps.
Okay. Well. Toby was still uncertain about Kyroh BUT if the Ravenclaw said he was okay then Toby wasn't going to push it. He'd just... keep an eye out and be the protector and all that jazz, see? He just smiled and nodded when Kyroh told him he'd be right back, and went back to checking his notes. Though... he couldn't help but get a little glimpse of Kyroh's notes, which made him smile again. What a kid.
Magdalena, on his other side, seemed to be doing okay too. Toby could see her out of the corner of his eye, borrowing the beaker he'd used, and poking things with his quill. He'd just added the past few steps to his notes when he heard Culloden speaking nearby.
Looking up curiously, Toby saw him looking at his new first year buddy, and so naturally looked her way again too.
"You'll need to add half the a ginger root now," he pointed out, hoping to gently guide her back to the potion as she seemed.......... distracted. "You do that, and I'm going to go get the ice." And some for her too, because HELPING.
"My turn to be right back," the Hufflepuff added to Kyroh, because... well, just because.
A quick glance down the table told him that the Slytherin girl beside Soph already had her ice cubes, and Toby had already seen Kyroh go up to get his own. His girlfriend, on the other hand, was still cleaning and helping and still icecube-less. He picked up three more glass containers (each charmed with a tricky little stasis charm), cast 'scourgify' on the lot, and went to go get the ice, scooping ten cubes into each of the clean containers.
Now back near his workstation, Toby set one beaker of ice in front of Soph, giving her and her Slytherin friend a smile (though he was STILL inwardly dwelling on this potion), before returning to his own seat and placing another beaker of ice on Magdalena's desk. "Here y'are." If the charm still worked, which hopefully it did, the ice wouldn't start to melt until it was out of the glass beaker.
SO, back to his own potion, and Toby tipped the beaker carefully over his potion, firmly enough that all the ice cubes were emptied into the potion at the same time, but gently enough that it didn't cause too much of a splash/potion tidal wave.
Figuring that the ice would take a few minutes to completely melt in the unheated potion, Toby got to work on grating the carrots, being sure to cast 'scourgify' on the grater first. While he did this, he looked back at Kyroh and grinned at his potion.
"Nice one, Ky," the Hufflepuff said encouraging me. "Are you gonna try and take my title as master potioneer?" Ehehe. No offence, Culloden. Just trying to spur on the kids, y'know?

Not when the fumes of his potion had reached his nose, making his stomach churn in disgust. Oh MAN, what was THAT?! His eyes found his potion and he wrinkled his nose at it. Oh jeez, this coming from his potion???? Sweet Merlin!
Trying to ignore the nauseous feeling inside of him, Grayson grabbed hold of the stick and gave it a magical clean before dipping it into his potion. One... two... three... four... five... six... Oh jeez, the fumes. ... seven... eight... nine... ten... ELEVEN! Leaving the stick in there, he cleaned his gloves AGAIN before picking out one...... two of the crow feathers and adding them in too. And a stir clockwise followed.
Jeez, this was gonna take freaking AGES.
Another two feathers were picked out and added into the potion, followed by a clockwise stir with his metal stick. The process continued right up until all the feathers had been added into the potion. THANK MERLIN. If there had been any more than ten, the boy would not have been too happy with this step.
Were they nearly done? He kinda wanted to try out the potion for himself.
In the meantime, he could people!watch. Uh huh. See if anyone -- coughDeclancough -- messed up in the process.

Ethan kept his eyes on his potion while Grayson talked. There was something in his voice that told him the half-Frenchie dude knew something. Four theories popped inside his head. 1. Simon accidentally slipped the information while talking to Grayson 2. The fifth year saw him give the Ravenclaw a certain look. 3. Grayson saw them together. 4. Something happened last term of which he was not aware of.
Ethan opened his mouth to respond, only to close it again right away as the vapor coming from his potion reached his nose. Oh…gag. The prefect covered his nose with his arm and did his best to steady his insides. “I think French is a lovely language,” Ethan paused as he prepared his crow feathers, as well as cleaned his wooden spoon, and metal stirrer. “…and it might come in handy.” Ethan gave Grayson another friendly nudge and a grin as he started with the next instructions.
Getting his wooden stirrer, Ethan stirred his potion clockwise eleven times. He removed the wooden stirrer from the cauldron, and added two crow feathers into his solution. Getting the metal stirrer this time, he stirred it once clockwise. He did the same steps until all eight of the crow feathers were inside his cauldron. The last two feathers were added without stirring it.
Now. Time to write some notes.

So some of the ingredients did have a symbolic significance. Maddie smiled after hearing this, happy she'd been right. It felt good and she made a mental note to go through her text book and look at other instances where the same thing might be true. She was quite curious about it now.
After adding to her notes, Maddie eyed her cauldron with interest. There was definitely steam rising from it but she hadn't exactly sniffed it. Leaning in slightly, the brunette let the steam fill her nostrils and instantly she felt her stomach turn. Oh. So this was a successful potion, then? This was good minus the upset tummy feeling that was happening. She could work through it though, obviously. She was a tough woman now, for Merlin's sake. A queasy stomach wasn't going to stop HER.
"Scourgify." The clean wooden stick was dipped into the potion with clean hands before Maddie began stirring clockwise. 11 times later and the brunette was done. She cleaned the dripping wooden instrument before setting it down. What was nex-oh! Crow feathers.
Crows could be mischievous creatures, yeah? She'd heard stories of them being symbols, both good and bad. She s'posed they were being used in THIS potion because of the bad ones. Ones having to do with manipulation and such. It was something to think about as she added the first two feathers into the cauldron after cleaning her hands for what felt like the thousandth time. Then she cleaned the metal stirrer and placed it in, stirring the potion once clockwise.
She repeated this process, adding two feathers at a time and stirring after each pair. She only changed this sequence when she got down to the last two feathers. After THOSE were added, she DIDN'T stir. She simply removed the stirrer and cleaned it for later use. Well, if she even NEEDED it.
The next item on the ingredients list, though? Maddie didn't need it YET but she squirmed a bit in anticipation. Despite what she might SAY, spiders were NOT her favorite. Just...*squirm*

Add a litre of water to the cauldron. 5. Clean knife. Add three leech heads, one at a time. 6. Using a clean metal stirrer, stir clockwise ten times. Clean stirrer again. 7. Clean knife. Add half the ginger root. 8. Wait for two minutes. 9. Grab CLEAN bowl. Get ten ice cubes and add them ALL to the cauldron at once. 10. While waiting until they melt, grate 5 carrots with CLEAN grater and CLEAN bowl. Add 5 ungrated ones to cauldron and then SPRINKLED the grated ones OVER and into the cauldron. 11. Tie the wormwood around the knotgrass and add THOSE to the cauldron.
12. (By this point, the steam from potion should make you slightly nauseous*) Stir 11 times clockwise with clean wooden stick.
13. Add two crow feathers.
14. Stir once clockwise with clean metal stirrer.
15. Add two more crow feathers and stir clockwise with metal stirrer again.
16. Repeat process until you get to the last couple of feathers. Do NOT stir after adding those. (You do NOT have to clean metal stirrer each time. Keep it IN potion*)

Ok, next bit - stirring with a metal stick. Seemed easy enough. He took the stick he'd gotten with the rest of his supplies and muttered "Scourgify!" pointing his wand at the stick and watching it turn nice and shiny clean. It felt kind of weird cleaning a stirring rod with another rod...this was a VERY specific potion, wasn't it? With that, he took the metal stick and stuck it in his potion. Ok, now to stir clockwise 10 times...one, two, three...so on and so forth until Caleb had finished his stirring. He then took the metal rod out and did another Scourgify spell on it once more. There, nice and shiny clean again!
Now to add half the ginger root. He took it in his hand and plopped it in the potion. Bloop! Onto the next step...
