Did you forget when your Herbology journal was due, or how much longer you have on that Ancient Runes essay? What classes are coming up? The Class, Homework and General Announcements Board located on the wall by the study tables is the perfect place to check for what activities both academic and non-academic are going on in the Castle.

OOC: All Ravenclaws and Hogwarts Professors are free to make a post in here letting the members of Ravenclaw House know of upcoming or recently opened classes, Homework assignments or bulletins of new activities. The Spreading the Noble Art Club (SNAC) is accepting applications for this new term! If you were a member in previous terms, you must reapply. It's a great way to earn some extra points for Ravenclaw as the term progresses!

Herbology Lesson One

Who: All Hogwarts Students

What: Lesson One

When: Friday 16th May @ approx 2am GMT

Where: Greenhouse Eight - line up outside.

Items to Bring: Common sense, dragon hide gloves, comfortable shoes- strictly no high heels, a smile and basic note-taking implements.


OOC: The lesson won't start for about 8-12 hours after the lesson thread has been posted, so people will have time to RP arriving to class, reacting to their surroundings and greeting their peers and Professor Bentley. The class will last up to a week. Please read through the Herbology Rules and Expectations prior to attending the lesson, I will KNOW if you haven't read them. In class we very briefly discussed how our ancestors used mythology to explain the changing of the seasons. Inspired by Miss Petersfield (Chiara), imagine that you are one of these ancient peoples and create your own myth explaining the change from one season to another. You may select just two seasons (for example winter to spring) or a story that explains the changing of all four seasons.

Stories should be at least 4 inches.
OOC: 4 inches = 4 paragraphs ^_^

⌦ option 3 (worth 10 points)
In class we looked at various diagrams and demonstrations explaining the how the Earth's orbit around the Sun causes the seasons. Draw your own diagram explaining the changing of the seasons (be sure to include the solstices and equinoxes!).

If drawing is not your thing, you may choose to instead find a partner (or a group or your pet or ghost....ANYONE) and give them a demonstration similar to what was done in class with the lamp and quaffle. Sharing knowledge is one of the best ways to solidify what you have learned after all.

OOC: There are really two options for option 3: an RP task or a graphic task. PLEASE DO ONLY ONE!

Your graphic should be something of your own creation. Do NOT just submit a preexisting image from the internet. Hand drawn images are entirely fine <3

If you choose to RP, please PM me the links to your RP. This CAN be accomplished in 1 post (especially if you are RPing with yourself and are giving a demonstration to your character's pet) as long as it is thoughtful and covers all the appropriate information.

You feeling sad, upset that Quidditch is cancelled? Are you in serious need of some Fat Burning, or MUSCLE BUILDING!?
Come on down to Your Groundkeeper's Hut, and take part in some EXCELLENT Physical Activity.
Use the equipment that is provided to you in the Make-Shift Gym. Use them at your own leisure when the Gym is open, get some advise on exercise, or take part in one of the activities on that day. IT'S LIKE MUGGLE P.E. BUT COOLER!
Gym will be open on October 24th

Herbology Homework One

Task:

Please select ONE of the following options.

Write a journal reflection of approximately one page, or 12 inches of parchment, in response to the following question:

Q. Flesh-eating plants and trees have long boasted a bad reputation in wizarding society and is often a contributing factor to nightmares and fears in young children and adults alike. To what extent do you think this is rational, or irrational?

OOC: This should be two small paragraphs/one decent paragraph in length.

OR

Write a short story, picture book, or comic strip, which outlines perceptions of flesh-eating plants and explores the idea that positive and playful interactions may be possible with these feisty flora.

OOC: This may be written or it may be a graphic/drawing. Feel free to let your creative juices flow.

OR

Conduct research on a type of flesh-eating flower, shrub or tree, and write a report outlining its origin, characteristics, uses and cautions.

OOC: You may use the herbology textbook to help you, though you are encouraged to write your own. Good homework will be added to the textbook for future reference.

3. Who are the most likely to become a Cold One?
4. What abilities do Cold Ones have?
5. In the correct sequence, name the spell or spells used to defeat a Cold One.

Extra Credit: Give the incantations for the spells used to defeat a Cold One.

What: Flesh-Eater Workshop. Including general maintenance as well as a facilitated learning experience with Flesh-Eating Fairy Orchids.

When: Saturday 31st May @ approx 2am GMT

Where: Greenhouse Eight will be open from 8am sharp, the facilitated learning experience will begin at 8:30am sharp.

Items to Bring: Common sense, dragon hide gloves, sensible dress and note-taking implements.


OOC: This is a workshop not a lesson, but lesson rules still apply. The thread will open on the above mentioned date and time for general care (feeding, mulching, watering) and the learning experience will begin on Monday.
