Credits: Magical Soul

Did you forget when your Herbology journal was due, or how much longer you have on that Ancient Runes essay? What classes are coming up? The Class, Homework and General Announcements Board located on the wall by the study tables is the perfect place to check for what activities both academic and non-academic are going on in the Castle.

OOC: All Ravenclaws and Hogwarts Professors are free to make a post in here letting the members of Ravenclaw House know of upcoming or recently opened classes, Homework assignments or bulletins of new activities. When making a post in here please try to include a link to the appropriate class thread and a quote or link of the actual homework assignment. If there is already post for a something try not to make another one, we all enjoy being informed but too much repeating posts becomes repetitive. For more information on posting an announcement see the Ravenclaw Rules and FAQs thread.

**Myself (Nordic Witch) and your House Mod (Magical Soul) will be sure to keep this top post updated with currently open classes and events and a list of homework assignments and their due dates.

There are three options for this homework. Please only complete ONE of them for credit. Doing both will not earn you double the house points. Extra credit is available to outstanding efforts and creativity.

option one (worth 10 pts)
Answer the following questions for review.
  1. Why is the Earth's tilt on its axis important?
  2. Who was the first person credited with calculating the tilt of the Earth?
  3. What planets posses a tilt similar to that of the Earth's?
  4. Why is Santa Claus depicted surfing in December in Australia?
  5. Why is the Earth's spin about its axis important?
  6. True or false, the Earth is closer to the Sun when we experience summer
'we' meaning us here at Hogwarts
  7. Why is it hot in the summer and cold in the winter?
  8. What is a solstice?
  9. What is an equinox?
  10. Explain to me what Cuckoo Warning Day is and why it is significant. I am dying to know.
OOC: Please be sure not to just copy paste answers from the internet for this should you select this option <3
option two (worth 10 pts)
In class we very briefly discussed how our ancestors used mythology to explain the changing of the seasons. Inspired by Miss Petersfield (Chiara), imagine that you are one of these ancient peoples and create your own myth explaining the change from one season to another. You may select just two seasons (for example winter to spring) or a story that explains the changing of all four seasons.

Stories should be at least 4 inches.
OOC: 4 inches = 4 paragraphs ^_^

Please keep in mind that all stories must follow SnitchSeeker.com Rules.
option 3 (worth 10 points)
In class we looked at various diagrams and demonstrations explaining the how the Earth's orbit around the Sun causes the seasons. Draw your own diagram explaining the changing of the seasons (be sure to include the solstices and equinoxes!).

If drawing is not your thing, you may choose to instead find a partner (or a group or your pet or ghost....ANYONE) and give them a demonstration similar to what was done in class with the lamp and quaffle. Sharing knowledge is one of the best ways to solidify what you have learned after all.

OOC: There are really two options for option 3: an RP task or a graphic task. PLEASE DO ONLY ONE!

Your graphic should be something of your own creation. Do NOT just submit a preexisting image from the internet. Hand drawn images are entirely fine <3

If you choose to RP, please PM me the links to your RP. This CAN be accomplished in 1 post (especially if you are RPing with yourself and are giving a demonstration to your character's pet) as long as it is thoughtful and covers all the appropriate information.

this assignment is due June 1st @ noon GMT

Please be sure you have read through Astronomy & Space Navigation and paid particular attention to the rules regarding homework submission. Late homework submissions will not be accepted. Any questions, concerns, or what have you can be sent to me via PM.

Our first homework assignment of the term is up - Astronomy Homework #1! Please be sure to read Professor Flamsteed's rules on how to submit homework, and have fun with it - Astronomy is a great subject for creativity! :)

History of Magic Homework One

Choose one of the following and write a 2 paragraph essay (4-5 sentences minimum per paragraph):
  • It is likely that the dragon from the Ilfracombe Incident was later captured and sent to a dragon reserve. What do YOU think happened to him? Write an epilogue to the story from the dragon's perspective.
  • Sometimes when magic is exposed or visible to Muggles they have their memories erased or altered. Other times it is left to the Muggle to make up their own explanation, such as kelpie sightings where they believe in the 'Loch Ness monster.' What do you think the difference is? Why are memories erased sometimes and not others?
  • How did the re-enactment of the Ilfracombe Incident and your role in it help you better understand this moment in history?

There are two options for this homework. Please only complete ONE of them for credit. Doing more than one will not earn you double the house points. Extra credit is available to outstanding efforts and creativity.

option one (worth 10 pts)
Answer the following questions for review.
  1. Atmosphere is really just a fancy word for what?
  2. The Earth's weather takes place in what layer of the atmosphere?
  3. Which layer of the Earth's atmosphere contains the ozone layer?
  4. What are the 4 basic ingredients for weather?
  5. How to coats and blankets keep you warm?
  6. Name all the layers of the atmosphere and give 3 facts about each.
OOC: Please be sure not to just copy paste answers from the internet or from the lesson for this should you select this option <3
option two (worth 15 pts)
In class I told you about how I came up with my own super team inspired by the layers of the Earth's atmosphere. Pick one of these layers and design your own superhero. Take into account what makes your selected layer of the atmosphere unique when creating them. Along with costume/character design. include a short paragraph explaining their super power(s).
OOC: This option requires a drawing and writing - although the writing portion does not need to be very long. Your graphic should be something of your own creation. Do NOT just submit a preexisting image from the internet. Hand drawn images are entirely fine <3
this assignment is due July 25th @ noon GMT

Please be sure you have read through Astronomy & Space Navigation and paid particular attention to the rules regarding homework submission. Late homework submissions will not be accepted. Any questions, concerns, or what have you can be sent to me via PM.

Astronomy Homework #2 is up! Please be sure to read Professor Flamsteed's rules on how to submit homework, and click here to view the lesson that accompanies this homework. You can absolutely do the homework even if you didn't attend the lesson! Have fun! ^_^
