Muggle Studies Lesson Two: True Love's Kiss the answer to Death
The school year seemed to just pass by so quickly, Josephina was flabbergasted that it was nearly over and that she was only one year away from the big four-oh. But yet, despite her real age, she was pretty sure that she felt younger than most of the current Hogwarts population. Honestly; they were barely eighteen, some of them not even teenagers - so then why were they acting eighty?! It was definitely that which led to her inspiration for today's topic.
Along with the large prop she had placed carefully on her desk (which was disillusioned shortly after students started to arrive due to the expressions).
Now all she needed was for these youngsters seniors to show up ... hopefully without any slips or falls.
ooc: as mentioned in the notice board, the lesson will actually begin tomorrow. Approximately 24 hours from the time of this post. Feel free to RP arriving and such .... =)
Interactive storytelling has begun here. Make sure you refresh before you post to know where to "read" next =)

Ian listened more and then the thought came about bodily functions. It had been broached previously and so why was NO ONE speaking of it now?
Professor, here's another problem. Fifteen or one hundred and fifteen, there had to have been some enchantment. I mean, if I go to sleep, when I wake up...I gotta pee. Sometimes really bad. If you woke up after one hundred years and had partaken a normal diet on the day you pricked your finger with the spindle...that's one really long time between potty breaks. So either she was covered in her own filth (which would make kissing her kind of gross) or she was enchanted.
Okay, something about bodily functions. gross. Well, everyone did it, but still gross. She didn't want to think about Sleeping Beauty being covered in her waste. And for that matter, what did Ariel do? This was not something that the fairytales mentioned. Interesting. And still gross. But interesting. And then the Beast. Did he have like an oversized toilet? How did this happen?
But she had interesting things to say. About food and stuff. Because Caelen kind of loved food. Like a lot. She ate more than a little person her size should be able to, and she was in the kitchen often. And if it wasn't cooking, she was concocting something to give to Rockwell. The kid could be evil sometimes, man. Especially to her jerk of an older brother like him. Because he COULD be a major jerk sometimes. Talk about unbraiding her hair and then holding her upside down from the poor kids ankles and letting her hair over her face and then gently dropping her on her back with her hair looking like that Ring girl. Cause he did that.
"But like, what about food? Even if they didn't age, how did they not die from loss of food? Even if you're under a potion, wouldn't you still have to eat? We need food to survive. "
"So unless Prince-what's-his-face had some kind of thing for kissing a girl like a hundred years older than him who's a bag of bones with like no meat by now, they had to be getting food from somewhere, right? So the evil witch Mal.. male.. evil witch lady couldn't have been that evil if she gave them food. Besides the whole coma thing. That's not cool." What was she talking about again? She got a little sidetracked. Also, how did you pronounce the evil witches name? Male-ficcient? Mal-if-icent? Who would name their daughter that?

Hypothetical!
It was all hypothetical! It was just a book, and therefore not real, and so nothing really happened to this so-called princess, except the fact that we turned the page and read about her being awakened.
Sophie raised her hand anyway, because there WAS a non-hypothetical question in there somewhere. "Our brain is still alive and kicking while we sleep," she said. "Otherwise, we wouldn't dream."

Caleb actually kind of LIKED this story, not that he would ever admit it, and he didn't get why everyone was trying to take this so LITERALLY. It was a FAIRY TALE. It wasn't supposed to make sense! You were just supposed to enjoy it and then move on with your life like a normal person.
Caleb raised his hand. "I don't think anything happened to Briar Rose because it's a fairy tale. She was enchanted to sleep, so I honestly think that she just woke up all of a sudden and probably thought it had only been five minutes or something. That's how magic works," he explained. At least in these tales it worked like that.

Bay had no idea on how to answer this question[s] wow… but a lot of the other students were giving really good answers… Bay took his quill out and started to write down some of their ideas… he made sure he paid attention just incase something else was asked.
"It's a fairytale and fairy magic which put Sleeping Beauty to sleep for hundreds of years with virtually no side effects. I would imagine she was quite shocked to be waking up kissing a dude she hardly knew. But beyond that, I think she would be fine.", Oichi responded with a smirk and her hand raised high.
Caelen inwardly sighed in frustration. Why was everyone talking about it JUST being a fairytale? Yeah, it was a fairytale. But it was also fun to analyze things. Over-think the fun things just a little and see what happens. That's what science was made of. Over-thinking the small things and see what comes up. SCIENCE!
And the shorter girl was only wondering because she LOVED fairytales. People going on adventures and lives to live and things to conquer. Maybe she liked adenventure stories. Yeah. Adventure stories. Those were her things. Although the girls in those stories never did ANYTHING interesting. So the eleven year old would have to be a boy in those stories. Be a Hobbit. That sounded cool.
Also, she thought of something else. Or more like, someone thought of something and then the little Ravenclaw completely expanded on it. What would an appropriate reaction be to waking up and finding out that you're kissing a stranger? Especially one that's a bunch of years younger than you. Because it was in no way marrying him. The redhead would've guessed kicking in the shins. Or maybe attacking him with a pillow. Something of the violent nature. She didn't even like people being in the SAME ROOM as her as she slept, never mind kissing her. Gross.

Sleeping for one hundred years did sound pretty awesome. If you had no responsibility and all that fun stuff that goes with that. Nigel did not have an answer to Hadley's questions. Or if he did the answer was said already. That coma one sounded reasonable or Alice's answer. some drought or another.
One of those two
But he was mostly distracted by Zahra. It seems every class she is in it is derailed and incredibly funny. Yeah immature of course. But hilarious.

Zahra copied Michael. She sat back, she put her legs up, and added her hands resting behind her head. PICTURE OF COMFORT.
AS FOR LEX? CAN'T HEAR YOU. DEAF TO YOU BECAUSE MIKEY IS SPEAKING.
"Oh yeah, man, like.... ALL the time. Did I not tell you the camel dream? We HAVE to get a camel this summer and ride that thing AROUND. It should be our principal form of transportation."
Zahra wiggled her eyebrows at Mikey, then WHISPERED POORLY to him, "Everyone in here is talking about kissing." JUST A CASUAL OBSERVATION.
"PROFESSOR I LIKE THIS CLASS!" BECAUSE SHE DID AND IT WAS IMPORTANT TO LET HER KNOW. Zahra then waved at the Professor because... you know... GOOD JOB, TEACH! "I'LL PROBABLY COME BACK AGAIN." Probably, you know? hehe BEAMING!
"You'll have to keep it at your house because you KNOW my dad won't let me keep a camel." He only just barely tolerated the ferret and the Jarvey. Zahra's parents pretty much let her do anything she wanted.
He couldn't help but throw Lex a small apologetic smile. It was obvious that Zahra was never going to like the older girl and that was his fault. He quickly turned his attention back to girlfriend before she whacked him in the chest again.
Mikey couldn't help but grin at Zahra, the eyebrow wiggling was so cute and he turned in his seat to look at her fully. "I dare you!!" They had talked about this before and the opportunity had not come up until now. They were likely to get detention but it would be funny.

Hmm.................... BET CELA OR COPE WOULD KEEP A CAMEL FOR THEM! Or..."Your Uncle and Aunt have a pet COW! Bet they'd keep a camel for us!" PROBLEM SOLVED.Merlin, was Muggle Studies ALWAYS this productive? Awesome class.
She did note that Briar Rose was a Fairy or some such though. So like, so far she'd learned LOTS. CHIEFLY that you poop your pants when you die and you KNOW it; and then about a lazy fairy that slept a lot and liked kissing.
Zahra liked kissing too.
AND A DARE WAS A DARE. "Dad's gonna be SO mad at me!" SOOOOOOO MAD.... But Zahra couldn't turn down a DARE, Mikey knew that, and... so... Zahra just went ahead and grabbed his big Toussaint head and laid a BIG SMACKER on him. MWWWWWWWWWAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH IN MUGGLE STUDIES.

"It DREAMS. Or mine does. Sometimes I dream about MIKEY MIKE TOUSSAINT. And sometimes about muggle airplanes and one time about a purple motorcycle and most RECENTLY I was riding a camel and we were going to my brother's house... Copernicus brother... and he was going to feed us liver and were excited about that for some reason..." hehe Like just like that.
Who the heck was Briar Rose? Zahra looked back to MIKEY. MIKEY. MIKEY.
Uh whhhatttt?!? Fina just had to stareeee at the young lion for a moment to see if she was serious or not. "Of course it did ..." but moving on?
And then she answered first about what happens to the human brain during sleep. Dreams. And Mike Toussaint, which she did NOT want to hear about those dreams, MERLIN no. They were just kids. "Ah yes... dreams. A window to the heart. But necessarily accurate or serious."

Sander spent some time thinking out his answer before he raised his hand.
"Professor I don't think it's possible for a body not to grow old because the body and organs continue to function even while you are sleeping. The only way you won't grow old is if the person is cryogenically frozen in suspended animation. This makes everything in the body remain in stasis,"
Okay question one answered. Now on to the next.
"The body may be at rest when we're sleeping but the brain is still working, transmitting messages to the rest of the body's organs. That's how we dream...and that's how we stay alive."
....second one answered. Now the last.
"As for Briar Rose, I think she would be experiencing the same thing a person who sleeps normally. She was sleeping and dreaming....it was just a long, long, long dream...or multiple dreams. "
"I do believe that sounds about right; under normal circumstances, one would continue to age while you sleep...." Fina paused. "However, in this scenario, the princess was cursed. With curses, anything is possible. and thus, it IS likely she remained her fifteen year old self. Frozen in time."
"But I beg to differ, with one thing you mentioned. I don't think the princess was dreaming because of the messages that would need to be transmitted. I think it's more likely she was simply stagnant, including all messages about dreaming in her brain. Nothing happened. She was simply present."

"I think it will be a huge age difference, Professor. But she didn't age physically...which is completely impossible. But as you said the spell helped prevent that.''Paaaause. Strike what he thought earlier. These were indeed complicated questions.
As for what happened to the Princess when she slept... "Our brain never sleeps as it's always working to make sure all other organs, muscles and so on are also working. Like Sander said, I think the same happened to Briar Rose when she slept. She dreamt on and on and on.'' Gosh, what a lot of dreams she must have had.
"Yes, theoretically there would be a huge age difference." Fina agreed. "However, what likely happened is that no aging occurred due to the spell. Therefore they were closer in age than ordinarily possible." Despite their birth years being drastically different, she was still fifteen. For a hundred years.

And since he didn't have any smart ideas of his own, the boy sat there, scribbling down some notes.
Another reason for this silence was because talks about kissing made the grandpa eighteen year old want kisses too.
And Hadley was asking a lot of questions. The Head Boy hardly kept up with them all but there was one asked about the brain so... he was going to answer that one. Yeah. "Professor?" he started, raising his hand in the air, "Your brain does continue working when you're asleep. I mean... if her, the Princess's, brain had been asleep too, she wouldn't have woken up when the Prince had kissed her, right?" ... Erm...?
... Moving on. "She must have had dreams. I think. But... Professor? How do we know she was sleeping and not... not in a coma or...?"
Hmm ... people were convinced that the princess was still dreaming? "It wasn't really sleep, per say, as she was in a 'cursed sleep', which changes things slightly. Hence why I think that maybe in the princess' case her brain didn't have to be constantly working or dreaming. There was some other greater being ... the curse."

Beaming, Lux listened as the Professor talked more. Some people really needed to open their eyes more to romance... of course forgetting that she herself had been close-minded towards it even a few months ago. Oops. And the theory that Alice presented was rather interesting. Alice was really smaaaart.
Huh, Lux had never really thought about the age difference thing before now, but it was an interesting question. Raising her hand, she offered a guess in reply. "Since she was asleep, not dead, her organs were still working. So biologically she would be over 100 and... externally she looked the same as ever." The story never said anything about her looking like she was really old looking. "So I suppose that the curse prevented her from looking older than a teenager? And when she was asleep, all she did was dream. Many dreams. For a very looooooooong time. Because that is what people do when they sleep."
"Asleep by curse though." Fina corrected. "So therefore the whole normal cycles maybe did NOT occur, such as dreaming and everything ... working."

Ella couldn't be one hundred percent sure but she vaguely recalled talking about something along these lines during a potions and History of Magic joint lesson. Unless she was imagining things which honestly, wouldn't be a far-fetched assumption. Old age brain did weird things sometimes. But yeah, she agreed with Alice, especially based on her thinking they'd discussed this in the past.
"Maybe it was a curse to freeze her in time." Like what happened with that awful lady who had done something to Anya-face and the rest of them. "As for the brain, it's still doing its thing while we sleep. Making sure your body is still functioning and being re-... ... ..." What was that word? "Restorative." Yeah, that.
"I think it was something awfully similar to that, yes. The curse was one to make her sleep, but it also sort of froze her time." Well wouldn't a certain De Talone or whatever her face have loved that one? "Restorative. Yes. Her brain was probably functioning only to the point where it could still be restored, but I believe it too was frozen in activity.... As in, when she awoke, I don't think she would recall what happened the last 100 years. She would remember it as if she'd just been asleep for a day..."

Age differences. Ew. "Maybe the princess aged a little during the 100 years?" Just to make it less creepy. Yeah, probably not right. "Doesn't our brain release hormones when we sleep?" Endorphins or something? "So I think she went a little crazy with all the excess things in her brain."
"I don't believe she did. I think the princess was frozen ... including in the hormone release, I don't think it would have happened like normal." Of course that was just her interpretation.

Like, you have to sleep and rest so your body can like, power-up, and half of your brain is focused on stuff like making sure you're breathing and junk, and the other half makes you dream." These were rough estimates. "I think mainly it does the sleep cycling thing, and you kind of go back and forth between really deep sleep and only-just-asleep, which is when we wake up naturally." Hmmmm... "But I guess the girl was always in a deep sleep? Which sounds super dangerous."
Hmm. Sleep. Toby could really go for some sleep right about now. Or soon? Maybe?
Fina nodded ... "Yes, that's what NORMALLY happens when you sleep. However, in the case of the Princess, I wouldn't call it a deep sleep so much as a cursed sleep. Which is probably way worse." Yup.

"Well, if she HAD been giving the Draught of Living Death, all it does is put you into a deathlike slumber. I don't think it has any effects of death or aging, so she's fine. But it must have kept her body and organs from functioning in a way that kept her young looking." Clearly, 'cause what sort of prince wanted to marry an old hag? "I don't think the potion does anything to your brain either, so I guess it just did whatever it does when we sleep normally. Let it transmit messages that kept her breathing and alive and stuff."
What, though, were her classmates saying about a spell? She wasn't very educated on the Draught of Living Death, seeing as both Lafay and Culloden had never made them brew it, so if there was an enchantment in place that assisted the Draught in its endeavors... well, Alice wouldn't know.
HAHA. Except that preliminary statement sort of contradicted what Alice began to say next.... "Exactly! Which means she wasn't really old at all. She, as far as she knew, was still her fifteen year old self." She paused. "Which must've made for an awkward meeting of her parents, which the story seems to think were still alive ... given they had aged a century..."

It was more important to figure out the whole storyline and how it was even possible to be revived from something like that. One hundred years was a long time to be sleeping, even with a curse put on you, like c'mon man. Either way, Lily didn't really care about the ending of the story. Instead she was more focused on how this person had really survived. Was it really her sleeping or was it more like a comatose state? Sticking her hand up, Lily kinda started thinking out loud. "What if she was in some sort of coma-like state? Like she was alive but not really sleeping per say. But even then, people in comas can age biologically..." The seventh year finished up, kinda trailing off in her thoughts. Peculiar story this was...
"But with the Draught of Living Death, as Miss Fischer pointed out, its a deathlike slumber...." Fina paused. "Which would be a bit like a coma, I guess, but the difference is that biological aging would not occur." So that whole potion thing? Made lots of sense.

"Muggles also like to make stuff up, so either the whole story's made up, or the part about her not aging is." The Slytherin had nothing against romance, but she did have a problem with people insisting that ridiculous stories were true.
Well wasn't someone being cynical? "Except if it was based on true wizarding events, then the not aging thing of the princess is definitely possible. Did you not read anything in the prophet about the De Talone case?" Kind of a big deal, but proof that not aging was possible. "Obviously muggles wouldn't be able to explain it or understand it, however."

The Gryffindor blinked at Zahra..."I am." With him. Seriously. He had a good point. "He's got logic. Why wouldn't I?" Was that to say she wasn't agreeing with Mikey? Last she checked everyone was entitled to their own opinions.
She shot Mikey a questioning look concerning his friend before turning her attention back to the Professor. Weird Third Year stuff probably.
Okay, she had a point with those curses but then the dude didn't have to kiss her, he could have drawn his wand. His lips didn't NEED to get involved. PFFT.
Also, that was a lot of years to be sleeping. She'd never be able to on account of feeling like she'd lost a lot...not that the girl had a choice to begin with but still. Just listening to it made her want to go out and DO SOMETHING. "I think the curse would have made her inactive. The fact she woke up means her brain was obviously still sending signals for the rest of her body to keep itself awake but I doubt it did anything else. It'd be like when you go to sleep but the moment you close your eyes it's morning and you don't know where the time went or when it did."
Least that's how she saw it.
"Yes.. yes, I think that's exactly how the Princess felt when she awoke. As if no time had passed at all."

As for what happened to the brain when they sleep, she was no healer to know exactly what. So, she'd answer the first question. She raised her hand. "It is a large age difference. Sleeping Beauty could practically be his grandmother, but maybe appearance helps the human mind forget that and...just go on with their romantic life...?" She knew nothing of it. Looks, up until recently, meant nothing to her.
"If she had been aging, then yes, she could have been his grandmother based on their birth years." Fina agreed, but then paused. "However, given the nature of the potion on the spindle and the cursed sleep it caused.... normal aging did not occur for the princess and she remained her fifteen year old self. For one hundred years." Kind of a strange idea to fathom.

Whatever.
When she chastised Zahra, he was tempted to argue that was her interpretation of the story. It did not mean it was the right one. Unless the woman had gone back in time and interviewed the author of the story and asked them how the Princess woke up.
Michael leaned back in his chair and stretched his long legs out in front of him, he was just going to kick back and relax now. He'd put in enough effort for one day.
That was until Z spoke again and he found himself sitting upright and grinning. "You dream about me? What do you dream?"

Haha. Now between cougars and potty breaks, these kids were FUNNY.
"I think that the lack of normal brain activity that occurred over the one hundred years is probably significant in answering that as well, though..." even if she was covered in her own pee, which was probably not the case. "So I think the potion in her bloodstream had protected her from any ... accidents"

"Good point. What about food? I would imagine that even the potion theory took care of that too though. The Draught of Living Death kept everything functioning as normal.... So even her lack of food, to her, it wasn't like she hadn't eaten in one hundred years, but only a day." So she was okay?
"So I don't think she was simply a bag of bones. Either that or she was given nutrients via tubes into her veins, which was not mentioned in the story, since it would have taken away from the fairytale nature of it ... its popular treatment in muggle hospitals for those in a coma, and even though the princess was not in a coma, it was similar."

Exactly! Well good thing that Caleb understood it ... for the most part. And Oichi ... "A fairy tale, based on wizarding events, yes. Which is why nothing happened to the Princess, because she was simply under the influence of Draught of Living Death. It protected her from normal aging process." But to add onto something else Oichi mentioned; "barely knew yet was true love, so I doubt she'd complain that he kissed her to wake her from her slumber..."

Mikey couldn't help but grin at Zahra, the eyebrow wiggling was so cute and he turned in his seat to look at her fully. "I dare you!!" They had talked about this before and the opportunity had not come up until now. They were likely to get detention but it would be funny.
Uh what about keeping a camel? Now Fina KNEW they weren't talking about the class! Especially when he .... shouted about daring her ... what?!? Dare her to do what exactly?
Watching the pair gingerly, she sighed, knowing she had to wrap things up. "Dare her to ....?" She'd already shouted out his name in class.

But it seemed she didn't have to wait too long to find out what the dare was.
"It seems, unlike Princess Briar Rose, we're out of time. Homework will be posted on the notice board. Thank you for another great term!"
She then turned towards the two third years. "Except you two. Kettleburn and Toussaint. Detention. I shall see you Tuesday at 5pm."

"De-who? I'm not from around here, so I've never heard of this...... whatever their name is." As if it weren't already obvious from her American accent. So, as far as Layla was concerned, this De Bird Claw person had nothing to do with this ridiculous fairy tale. "Sometimes a fairy tale is just a fairy tale."
Not that it mattered anymore, since her attention was drawn to the Gryffindor that had glared at her earlier and his.......friend. Because how could it not be? They were making enough noise to wake the dead! Plus, they weren't trying to trap people into believing fairy tales. Wait did that girl just...........?
Ooooooooo
And then class was thankfully over. Layla gathered up her stuff quickly, and headed for the door, calling a "See you next term, professor!" over her shoulder. Hopefully, there'd be no fairy tales.

Class was already over? Sander sighed but reluctantly packed his things into his bagpack, before getting up from his seat and approaching his Head of House. "Thank you for another interesting lesson, Professor. It really boggles the mind doesn't it. This will be the last lesson for me with you, so I'd like to thank you for everything and would like to wish you all the best for the future," Sander smiled at Professor Hadley before turning to look one more time at the Muggle Studies Classroom.
Good bye, he thought to himself as he sadly turned around and made his way back down to his House Common Room.

Why were those two Gryffindors being so LOUD?
Confused, Lux shot them both a glance, raising her brow. This was class and Professor Hadley was trying to teach them... about something that gave her a serious case of the creeps, but that was besides the point.
Wait, they were dismissed already?
Glad of the excuse to stop talking about death, Lux quickly packed up her stuff. "Thank you for the lesson, Professor. See you next Term!" Just no more classes about death, okay?
Waving goodbye to the woman, she left the classroom.

He was just about to suggest Uncle Adri but she beat him to it. Mikey was so sure that his Uncle would keep the camel at his house. Zahra had some really BRILLIANT ideas at times.
But they could work out the details of the camel housing later because there were more important things about to happen. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
And she KISSED him! Right there in the middle of the class. "Not one of your best Kettleburn." But he supposed the atmosphere was not exactly right.

Looks like class was over, Michael just started to gather his stuff together when the Professor spoke and he paused in what he was doing to look at the woman and then to Zahra. He was trying really hard not to laugh.
"Well." He said, his lips twitching. "Looks as though Professor Hadley didn't appreciate out re-enactment of true love's kiss." Bwhahahahaha.

They were done already? Cool. Adi's head was buzzing with the questions Hadley had posed earlier. True love. He wanted to snort. Yeah, right. The Puffer packed up his stuff and approached his Head of House.
"Interesting lesson with complicated questions, Professor,'' he said with a smile. "Thanks for the fun lessons. I hope we have more next term.'' Adi gave her a bigger smile and with that, headed out of the classroom.

Ian listened to the professor's answer. He wasn't convinced of her dismissive reply to his point. However, class was over and it was a moot point. It was the last class of the term and death hadn't been as much a topic as he had expected. He stood up slowly, feeling the effects of being seated for an entire class period. His joints were sore and he was really ready for a nap more than anything. Well, a nap and maybe a light snack.
He walked past the professor. Thank you, Professor. Quite an engaging class.

Wait what?
... ... ...That was it? It was over? Ella just sort of blinked and looked up at Hadley, feeling sort of weird. She remember her first Arithmancy class with Hadley pretty vividly, how confused she'd been. Now she was in a Muggle Studies classroom with the woman feeling old and nearly ready to graduate. MERLIN.
The eighteen year old slowly packed up her things and then wandered up to Hadley, a sad smile playing on her lips. She wanted to say something but nothing immediately came to mind so instead, she wrapped her arms around her head of house and gave her a hug.

... ... Oh.
They were out of time. And all Alec could do was stare up at Hadley in disbelief, his mouth hanging open slightly. Had the lesson really gone by that quickly...? Surely there was still another half an hour of the lesson left, right? Yeah? A glance down at his watch told him no. ... That... still wasn't right.
Frowning, he finally came to his senses and started packing up his things. Everything went into his bag apart from one item; a box wrapped in gold wrapping paper and black ribbon was taken out and placed down on his table. This was it, then. He'd just... give this to her and see what she thinks and if she didn't like it, he'd... run back to his dorm to hide try and find another solution.
Straggling behind, the Head Boy got up and headed over towards the front, the box clutched in his hands. This wasn't something he wanted to give in front of everyone so... he'd just wait. And Hadley was getting hugs from the Head Girl, which made the boy smile sadly. That was nice, wasn't it?
"Erm... Professor? D'you think I could... talk to you?"

Before she had time to react what was happening, felt something around her and she glanced down (because Ella was probably one of the few who hadn't outgrown her) and saw a familiar blond head.
Gingerly patting the girl's back, she sighed and swallowed. "It'll be okay. You'll see."

And then there was a head boy there too. Was he jealous because he wanted a hug too? Group hug, yea? Hardly listening to what he asked, because it didn't matter, Fina reached towards him and pulled him to the badger hug.
What did he ask now? Eh... whatever.

It'd be okay?
Well, of course it would. But it would also be different. Everything would be different and this made Ella feel sad because she liked this. She loved Hogwarts and these people and it was her second home. So sorry but she was sad. Just all the sad feels right now, okay? And she was going to miss Hadley tons.
She was vaguely aware of someone else being pulled into a hug and she'd heard Alec's voice so she was assuming it was him. If he needed to talk to Hadley, she was going to go. She didn't want to get in the way and besides, she was probably going to cry soon if she didn't get out of here.
And so the Head Girl pulled away eventually and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. She then looked up at her Head of House and said quietly. "I'm going to miss you, Professor. Thanks for always being there for us. Thanks for believing in me. Thanks for...being you. I couldn't have asked for a better person to lead our house. Just...t-thanks." As soon as her voice cracked, the eighteen year old knew she should abandon ship. She quickly swallowed the lump in her throat, gave Alec a forced smile, and then darted from the room.

Before he knew what was going on, Alec felt himself being pulled into the hug too. Not that he minded. He responded with wrapped his arms around the Head Girl and the Head of House and giving them a big hug in return. None of that one armed nonsense. A proper hug because... they probably all needed it, yeah?
Somewhere deep inside of him, his twelve year old self was fanboying happy that he had gotten the chance to hug Hadley.
... And Ells was going? ... Erm...? He blinked over at her and had opened his mouth to say that she could stay but... she was gone. Rather quickly too. Frowning a little, he continued looking over at the door where she had rushed out of before shaking his head. No... he'd just... find her later. See if she was okay.
Right now... Hadley. This was going to be hard. Taking a deep, shuddering breath, Alec launched into his story, "Erm... so hey! I, erm... I got you something." He held out the box wrapped in gold with a black ribbon tied around it. Inside the box there was a little stuffed toy in the shape of a badger, a packet of peppermint chocolates and a book called A Slice of Pi, All the Math You Forgot To Remember From School. Perfect, right? "The items reminded me of you and I... I thought they'd be great gifts. If you don't like it, you don't... have to keep it."
Now onto his second part. Another deep breath. "So... I guess I'm just saying thanks. Thanks for the past seven years." Most of which he couldn't remember. Shame. "You've been a really great Head of House, you know and... I couldn't have asked for a better one. I've learnt a lot from you; not just about Airthmancy and Muggle Studies but also what it takes to be a Hufflepuff, you know? Thanks for just... being there. And for believing in me. I really appreciate it and... I'm sorry for not mentioning that before." Funny how things like graduation brought these things up.
... And... he was rambling. Probably talking her ear off too. "So yeah, just thanks. Keep being awesome, yeah?"
Yet another deep breath was taken before he concluded in a small voice, "I'm really going to miss you."
