Bay was happy that Sander started to read.. after he was done no one else started so Bay thought it would be a good chance for him to read..

"the frog was speaking the truth, they had a little girl and the king and queen were so happy, they had a big party and lots of food. they invited everyone that would love the girl."

he loved to read and he has actually read this book before when he was younger, this was his mothers favourite story... when he finished he waited for someone else to take the lead.

Oh, reading. This was something that Lux was okay with. And she was familiar with this story, though it had been a while since she had last read it. Since no one else was reading after Bay, she decided to pick up the next part of the story after opening the book to the right page. "Not only were family, friends, and acquaintances invited, but the king also invited a wise woman so that they might be kind and think well of the daughter."

Apparently their classmates and the Professor did not appreciate his and Zahra's not taking this death talk seriously. He elbowed his partner in crime. "Promise me that when I die that it's not a morbid affair. Throw a party or something." He wanted his life celebrated, not have people moping around.

His attention was drawn back to the Professor and he raised his eyebrows. They were going to read a fairytale? Well this class was just getting weirder.

With a mental shrug, Michael read the next couple of lines. "He even invited the wise women in the hopes that they would be kind to the girl who was as almost as beautiful as Zahra Kettleburn." Hehehehe. Ahem. "There were thirteen of them but he could only feed twelve so one old bag had to stay home."

... Read?

Alec grabbed his copy of the book and glanced down at the cover. Sleeping Beauty? He could see where the link could come up to the death topic they had going on. And this was Muggle Studies. He just... hadn't expected them to be reading fairy takes in class. And he was more of a comic books guy.

Flipping the book open, he started reading along to the story while his classmates read aloud. ... Erm... had there always been a frog in this story? Really? And a party? He reached up a hand and ruffled his hair, a confused expression spreading across his face.

His turn? Awesome. "So... the feast was held and what a feast it was! Though... this is the King and Queen so..." Moving on? "The wise women gave the baby magical gifts like... virtue and beauty and riches and... and everything one could hope for." He was going to stop there and let someone else continue.

Sleeping Beauty?

Beverly blinked up at the professor. It was one of the stories Kennedy used to tell her at night. He made all these funny voices portraying characters--his girly voice wasn't the best, but he tried. The memory threw her off her current state and brought her a bit of strength.

Glancing down at the book, Beverly was immediately immersed in it. When it was her turn, she cleared her throat. "...And then," she continued after the Head Boy, "when the friends of the King and Queen made their promises...the thirteenth came in and she was angry for not having been invited, and so she promised to avenge herself..."

While the seventh year was unaware of all things Muggle, their literature caught her fancy quite often. She knew their stories in and out, so the captain perked up almost immediately when Hadley announced they'd be reading and grabbed the book passed to her with eagerness.

Following along obediently, she almost forgot to start reading when it was her turn. "She didn't even look at or greet anyone... which I'm assuming was really rude in the olden days and stuff. Especially to a king. He's gonna need some ice for that burnnn." Mhm. "And she started shrieking her head off all like, 'HEY EVERYONE. The princess is gonna poke herself with a spider... no wait, that says spin... spindle... is that something pointy? ... but yeah. And then she's gonna keel over and die.' So basically she was giving the princess the gift wimpiness."

At least her reading was better than Toussaint going and calling Kettleburn beautiful. Merlin, that was vomit worthy.

Theeey were gonna read a story? That was so cool. Gracie liked stories. Even if she didn't really like the subject. Death? That was not way gross. She didn't want to talk about death. She was only 11. She didn't need to think about death. Because she really did not want to die any time soon.

But back to the story. She liked Sleeping Beauty. She beamed, waiting for her turn. Everyone was really good at reading, and making the story their own. Oooh. It was her turn now. "Everyone was reaaaalllly shocked." So would she if someone came to tell her her kid was gonna prick her finger and like die. "But the last wise woman hadn't done her wish yet. She came forward saying she could not undo the evil spell, but make it less bad. So she did her gift, and instead if the princess pricked her finger she would just sleep for 100 years not die."

Okay he had to admit that when he first walked into the classroom and saw the coffin, he had actually thought that Professor Hadley was going to tell them how muggle's made them. He didn't think she was actually going to talk about death.

That was just kinda rubbing it in to those of them that had the ageing disease happening.

He was considering having a snooze when his GIRLFRIEND came in and sat beside him and he kinda missed the question that was asked and some of the responses but he couldn't miss what Zahra was going on about and despite how he was feeling, he burst out laughing.

"And then you'll POOP your pants and my ghost will be laughing at you." He gave her a nudge with his elbow. "Don't worry, I'll get you some of those adult diapers so that you don't ruin your clothes." Hahahahaha.

Zahra was just going to giggle herself to death now. Pay her no mind.

Zahra didn't have a clue what was going on anymore.

Reading time... This was not something Leah expected for a Muggle Studies lesson. She was never an expert in reading, and often stumbled on words. Think of reading tips! Use all your articulations. This was what her parents loved to tell Leah.

While Leah was flexing her jaw muscles, the book came to her. She coughed slightly, and squinted at the page. Luckily, she was listening and found where she was supposed to read quickly. "The king, who would die to keep his dear child, the princess from the misfortune, which is the... pricking her finger thingy and sleeping for a hundred years, which I don't really see as a misfortune." She said, shrugging. "Anyway, this King, he gave orders that every spin...dle? in the whole kingdom should be burnt. That's bad, isn't it?" Leah frowned, but whoo! She managed the first sentence! "Meanwhile the gifts of the wise women, those beauty and riches mentioned earlier, were fulfilled on the young girl, for she was sooooooo beautiful, modest, good-natured, and wise, that everyone who saw her was bound to love her. Now I'm hoping that I'm this princess girl." Leah finished, sighing but grinning at the same time, before realizing that she had skipped some difficult words.

Ian watched and listened as others read the book. It was ok, but not terribly interesting. He was surprised they were reading this fable as a means of talking about death. Granted, it was a muggle studies class, but weren't there more 'interesting' fables they could use to tell the story of death. Perhaps some Greek mythologies dealing with Hades and the river Styx or something like that. Maybe Norse mythologies dealing with Valhalla and the like.

When the book came to him, he read: It happened that on the very day when she was fifteen years old, the king and queen were not at home, and the maiden was left in the palace quite alone. So she went round into all sorts of places, looked into rooms and bed-chambers just as she liked, and at last came to an old tower. She climbed up the narrow winding staircase, and reached a little door. A rusty key was in the lock, and when she turned it the door sprang open, and there in a little room sat an old woman with a spindle, busily spinning her flax.


His voice was weakened with the effects of aging and there was very little intonation in his reading. Had he been reading, he likely would have nodded off, but alas he had participated.

Alex listened and took notes as her classmates offered their answers to the Professor's questions. She was till a little freaked out about the whole death discussion, but at least the coffin was gone so the visual reminder was no longer there.

Then the Professor said that they would be reading Sleeping Beauty. Okaaay. That was an interesting transition. Alex waited patiently for her turn to read. The story was about start to go downhill any minute. When there seemed to be a pause in the action, she raised her hand. Using her finger to mark the spot where her classmate had ended, she began to read. "Good day, old mother", said the king's daughter." "What are you doing there?" "I am spinning", said the old woman", and nodded her head. "What sort of thing is that that rattles around so merrily?", said the girl, and she took the spindle and wanted to spin too. But scarcely had she touched the spindle when the magic decree was fulfilled, and she pricked her finger with it"."Why did she go into the tower in the first place? Everyone knows that nothing good ever happened in a tower."

Yes, they were reading a story! Caelen had a nuisance of an older bother, and therefore was read bedtime stories by her mom, and then when Rockwell demanded attention by being bad, her Aunt. And if memory recalled, she never actually read this one often. Almost as much as the Wizard of Oz. The redhead knew this book by heart. Or somewhat. She stopped getting stories read when she was six, mostly because of the fact that she could now read herself. And the kid was pretty sure she didn't read the book since.

But the book actually came to her and she took it, smiling with the happiness of touching an old book. The Ravenclaw cleared her throat quietly and then started reading, trying to put in as much intonation as possible without going overboard. It was the way she always tried to read to herself.

"And, in the very moment when she felt the prick, she fell down upon the bed that stood there, and lay in a deep sleep. And this sleep extended over the whole palace, the king and queen who had just come home, and had entered the great hall, began to go to sleep, and the whole of the court with them. The horses, too, went to sleep in the stable, the dogs in the yard, the pigeons upon the roof, the flies on the wall, even the fire that was flaming on the hearth became quiet and slept, the roast meat left off frizzling, and the cook, who was just going to pull the hair of the scullery boy, because he had forgotten something, let him go, and went to sleep. And the wind fell, and on the trees before the castle not a leaf moved again."

The girl with the braid actually didn't remember this story as well as she thought. Which meant that she was excited for the end. And whatever it took to get everyone to stop talking about death. The conversation was tiring and frankly, kind of scary!

Caelen actually knew the answer to her classmates question. The girl wanted to explore. Something that the blue-eyed girl knew a lot of. It was the itch of adventure that led people forward into adventure. The same way that caution held people back from adventure.

Oh? So they were reading Sleeping Beauty. That was interesting and now Kace understood why the coffin was there in the first place. Now it was his turn since he heard the little ravenclaw finish her part. He cleared his throat and began.

"But round about the castle there began to grow a hedge of thorns, which every year became higher, and at last grew close up round the castle and all over it, so that there was nothing of it to be seen, not even the flag upon the roof. But the story of the beautiful sleeping Briar Rose, for so the princess was named, went about the country, so that from time to time kings' sons came and tried to get through the thorny hedge into the castle."

After he finished his part, he wondered who else was gonna finish the story.

Sleeping Beauty! Now Abbi was listening. Before, heh. Who wanted to walk about death. Such a miserable thing. But Sleeping Beauty. Abbi's ears were more open than an open door, waiting for the written words of the story to enter her brain room.

And then it was her turn to read. YESSUMS.

"But...." DRAMATIC PAUSE. "They found it IMPOSSIBLE!" Did they all hear that bit? "The thorns were meanies and held quickly together. Like they had hands and so they...DUN, DUN, DUN, captured the youth and killed them TERRIBLY."

Ugggh! One of those girly stories they had to read? And worst yet, out loud? Adi grumbled in his head as the others started to read a bit one after the other. He was going to delay reading for as long as he could.

Finally, it seemed he could stall no longer. Heaving a sigh, he picked up from where Abigail had left off. "Tons of years later,'' Adi narrated, "another son of a king visited the country. He heard the story of the thorn hedge and the castle in which the princess was in dreamland for one hundred years.'' That was as much as the Puffer was reading. Who's next?

Ian listened up as his buddy Adi began to read. If he wasn't so bored from having to listen to a fairy tale he would have completely missed it. He had to stifle a little giggle as Adi read. The level of joy and excitement in the reading was evident and made Ian smile a little.

Sleeping Beauty.

Ella knew the story well, had grown up hearing Princess stories around bedtime and so she sat back in her seat, listening intently to her classmates as they took turns reading parts of the tale. She tried her best to forget the fact that the end would mean more discussion about death and when it was her turn, she smiled over at the Adi and continued where he left off.

"And unafraid, that prince went to the castle where he expected to find those dangerous thorns." Dramatic PAUSE. "But the only thing he found were these huge flowers which parted to let him through to the castle. Good timing on the Prince's part, if you ask me." 100 years seemed to be just the right amount of time. "And once inside, the flowers blocked the opening again, leaving the prince to do his thing."

Y'know, the prince-y thing. Saving the princess and all that.

This was just about one of the stupidest things that Ascanius had ever done in a class at this school. He felt like he was in primary again and some sweet faced teacher was teaching him the alphabet, yeah? The idea of reading some girly, ridiculous fairytale, which he hated just as much as most acoustic music, made him want to heave. Especially because his thing in classes was playing up the silent mysterious type. That was his thing, y'all know?

Leaning back in his seat trying to look not bothered, he considered all of his options. On one hand, he could ignore the instructions and remain silent, which ran the risk of him getting called out. On the other, he could talk and be subjected to this particular brand of stupidity. The kind that made his head ache.

He opted for the mumble.

"Once he was clear of all the flowers, he happened upon a sleeping castle. From the servants to the king and queen slumbering in their thrones. But for some reason he happened to know that Briar Rose was asleep in the next room. So he did what any logical person would do and he kissed her while she was unconscious. Which brought her back from the curse and 'cause he was fit she didn't have a proper freak out at how creepy he just had been."

His whole part bordered on cynical, but this was why he never spoke in class. Or often in general.

Hadley was listening to the readings and quite pleased that most of them seem to be taking it seriously enough. Yes it was a fairytale, and semi-feminine, but there was a moral to the story. A reason for selecting this one, did they not see?

And ... what was that? Why was the Gryffindor's mind STILL on pooping in one's pants upon death? Really?

"Well. Before you're ... you know ... dead ... you lose control of bodily functions. But after you're dead, all bodily functions cease to exist. Hence why you wouldn't really defecate in your pants once you've passed." Can they move on now and back to the story?



"Exactly right! The poor princess had been cursed to sleep for a hundred years, but then she was saved. Saved by what exactly?" Fina asked.

Sander speed read through the book to get to the end. And then sat back thinking before raising his hand.

"Professor the Prince woke her up with a kiss but I think what really saved her was that her bodily functions and organs didn't age like it would usually do as time went by. The fact that she was in some kind of suspended animation made it possible for her to wake up still young and not old...or possibly dead."

Sander paused to take a breath. "I mean unless she was one of us there's no way she could have lived for a 100 years. She was saved by the spell."

They were probably going to get kicked out of this class if they kept going on the way they were but Michael didn't particularly care. It was funny. And Zahra's question was a good one and he too wanted to know what the Professor meant.

In the meantime though, he chuckled at Zahra's comment about them pooping their pants together. "Sounds romantic." And something too look forward to. Not!!

"If I knew about this, you know I would have told you about it." He told her everything, well maybe not everything, and the more disgusting it was the better.

Bay raised his hand "she was saved by a Kiss" he said, even thought this story was really girly he had liked that part.. but wait…. does that mean people are going to be going around kissing people… but wait… everyone should have been healed already if that was the case.. because of the kissing booth and the tunnel of love….. right… ughhh… Bay just sat there and listened to the rest of the students reply.

Kace was glad that the story was finished. He remembered seeing the movie with his cousins. The princess was saved but saved by what? Kace thought about it and it was logical. She was saved by magic. Obvious right? But that seem too general. Kace raised his hand, "Professor she was saved by a true love's first kiss."

He remembered when his cousins were awwing and gooing over the prince saving the princess in the movie. He didn't particularity like the movie too much. Not one of his favorites.

The story finished, Lux raised her hand to answer the next question that was asked. "She was saved by a kiss from her true love." And how exactly did this tie in with the lesson that was being taught? Surely, the cure for this... whatever it was wasn't kissing? Because if it was, Louis and Bay would be cured by now. Cough.

Wait.

Wait.

WAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT!

Michael raised his hand after hearing a few of the students give their answers to the Professor's question. "Not to take away from the romance of it all, but after reading the story, was the girl actually saved at all? A spell was cast upon her to sleep for a hundred years. It just so happened that the Prince arrived on the day she was to wake up anyway. So to me it was just coincidence that she woke up when the Prince kissed her."

So there!
