Entering the common room through the same corridor as the kitchens the kitchens, you will find a pile of large barrels stacked in the shadowy stone recess to your right. The second barrel from the bottom, middle of the second row, will open when tapped to the enunciation of 'Helga Hufflepuff'. (*Note: non-Hufflepuffs who tap the wrong barrel, or the incorrect number of times, will result in one of the lids bursting off and dousing the trespasser in vinegar)
Following a sloping, earthy passage inside the barrel, which will then travel upwards slightly, a cozy, round, low-ceilinged room comes into view. Welcome! Your common room is like your sanctuary. During your seven years here, your house will be like your family. The room is decorated in the cheerful house colors of yellow and black, enhanced by the use of highly polished honey-colored wood for the tables and then round doors which lead to the boys' and girls' dormitories.
Directly over the wooden mantelpiece, which is covered with carvings of decorative dancing badgers, is a portrait of Helga Hufflepuff, your house founder and one of the four Hogwarts founders, toasting her students with a tiny, two-handled golden cup. There are small, round windows level with the ground at the foot of the castle, showing a pleasant view of grass and flowers, occasionally people. As a result of the low windows, the room has a year-round sunny feel to it.

She looked around and gave a small smile, "It's kind of odd honestly... compared to what I'm use to... but it's cozy. Reminds me of Dad's old study." She smiled at the old memory, "He use to take Anastasia and I in with him, all of us curled up by the fire and he'd tell us one of his stories..."
She smiled and sat down, handing him one of the packs and grabbing another for herself. Anna sat beside him and smiled, "Thanks." She nodded, "So, are you having a good start to the year at least?"
Kace nodded and agreed. "Yeah this common room gives that warm and cozy feeling." He was sitting back more in his favorite arm rest. He loved it. He wished he had a blanket but then he might fall asleep. "Oh what kind of stories did he tell you?" he asked curiously.
"No problem and thanks for bringing these. I was craving some gummy worms." he smirked. And he heard her ask the question while he was busy eating the gummy worms. "I am having a good start so far. I am meeting a lot of new people like yourself." he gestured towards her. "I can't wait for classes to start."

It all depended on who she encountered that day and who she'd considered smacking places. Oops. Totally a people person. "But sure..you can have a tree." Elodie didn't mind at all.
A tree was pretty simple to colour in anyway. Easier than something that required total and complete attention. She could colour a tree in shifts. Lots of greens too. All the better. Unless she Autumnised the tree and the leaves were browning. Which..was definitely an idea. Huh. Maybe she could just charm it to go through the seasons. All depended on how she felt, for sure.
Anna jumped slightly feeling someone next to her, "Fine..." She said weakly, "Just... a fight with my supposed best friend that ended with her throwing a goblet at my head." Hence the bump. She wiped her tears and tried to stop her whimpering. She hated to have others worry about it, mainly because it just felt odd. She didn't really have others who go out of their way to make sure she was alright.
Annaleecia looked back down and nervously twirled a curl. Of course she knew that the younger girl was just being polite and doing what a normal person would do, but at the same time, Anna always felt like a burden when people would check on her.
Bri winched at that. She didn't have that many fights with her friends back home but when they did it was pretty bad. Bri wasn't sure what else to say, the to other girl, who seemed to be a bit uncomfortable. So she jut said "I am sure everything will be fine soon." A generic say,but that is all she could think off at the moment. She smiled gently

Ooooh! That would be amazing! Lux squealed when Elodie said she might charm it to move. "Please do that, Elodie." It would be amazing if she had a moving picture of her own to show off to Bay, Tessa, and Christmas. When she was older, she would love to be able to perform the spell on her own along with many other cool ones; but for now her magical knowledge was a lot more limited than that of her friends, since they were all older than her.
"It's a good name for him, because he is black and has white paws." They looked like mittens! She hoped Elodie wasn't making fun of her cat's name. D:

She sighed, "I really hope you're right..." Anna gently wiped the tears away, "But, I'm Annaleecia, third year." She nodded and gave a very weak smile, fighting back her urge to keep crying. She did hope she was right though... She didn't want to lose Melek... She was the only tie she had to her childhood... And they'd been inseparable since they met at the age of three.

My grandfather, my mom’s dad, was my father’s head. My mother was wanting to follow in Grandpa’s shoes, so she’d also had been on with him to fill out some papers and… I guess that’s how they met.” She gave a small laugh, ”Grandpa still… or at least the last time I saw him, he still didn’t like my father.” She smiled.
She looked at him and paused, ”Well, he actually was sent there by my grandfather, hoping with him gone Mom would find someone else… But he did love it. His main job was to help some of the villages.. Aside from that I can’t remember what all he did.”
Anna gave a slight blush to the blush and looked back down to her own bag hoping her hair would cover it. She smiled though at what he said next, ”Yeah we are… I can’t wait to get to my first class.” She gave a small laugh.

Ian returned from his tour of the castle after having visited his classrooms for the year and reading their rules. He was a bit tired. He'd gotten mis-directed a couple times (stupid shifting staircases) and run into a couple of the more interesting occupants of the castle. He was surprised how few opportunities he'd had to encounter the house elves which serviced this massive operation.
He found a nice comfortable place to fall and leaned back as he would at home before landing on a soft cushioned pillow on the floor.

Jordan scratched the back of his head, a little sheepish as he replied, "No. I sort of didn't know what the houses were before I got here. My Mum gave me a book to read, but I... skimmed it."
In truth, at the time he'd thought to himself that he didn't care which house he was in, so long as he got to learn magic while he was in it.

Oh, so she was all for that idea then.. Elodie smiled and nodded. "I'll give it a try, okay?" She could do it. She knew that she could, it was just the whole effort thing. That was pretty pesky, and made her want to pull faces at people and take a nap. Doing almost anything just made her think of naps. Maybe she and Olly would have to arrange some sort of nap time this year. To take over their study slot from last year. No super important exams to slave over this year!!

Nod. Trying was okay, and since Elodie was an older student, she was sure that she would manage to succeed. Unless... Elodie was not very good at magic? She preferred to think that Elodie was a magical superstar and would be able to make her picture really pretty and able to move and do all sorts of amazing things.

She marveled about the common room and the decorations and seemed quite pleased to be a Huffie. It made Ian rather proud as he considered Hufflepuff the best house (and that was proved in winning the tricrowns last year). She did seem to ramble a bit but he was intrigued by her reactions.
He waved meekly at her and smiled to let her know she was more than welcome to ramble all she wanted to. She was amongst kindred spirits.

She muttered a curse in Russian. She really was hoping he wouldn't notice that... but Annalee sighed and gently moved her hair back to show the bump left from the small argument, "Melek and I got into a small argument... and it ended with her throwing her goblet at my head..." She looked down.
Altair made his way back to the common room. He would get lost consistently, but for some reason he could always manage to find his way back to the Hufflepuff Common Room. Perhaps, it was more of his nose guiding the way since it was on the way to the kitchens. He decided to take his new book he got from the library and read it over by the fire. If anything, he was going to look at all the moving picture. He'd never seen a book like this before and it was absolutely amazing! He took a seat in a big poofy yellow chair with fluffy pillow and flipped it open in the middle.

He didn't press on it and then she explained what happened. His eyes went wide and said, "She did that to you? But why??"
Then he noticed a new first year. This little dude looked cool to get to know. "Hey i am Kace!"
Kace chuckled at what her dad did to her mom. "I guess you know that they were meant to be." Then he noticed she mumbled something. He couldn't make it out and knew it must be in another language. He didn't press on it and then she explained what happened. His eyes went wide and said, "She did that to you? But why??"
Then he noticed a new first year. This little dude looked cool to get to know. "Hey i am Kace!"
Altair thought he heard the older boy speaking to him, but wasn't quite sure. He looked behind him and there was no one there, so it had to be him. Wow, someone actually acknowledged him, that was a first, but he didn't know how to take it. He was used to being kind of on his own, but he couldn't be introverted all the time. "'Ello, I'm Altair," he said as he emphasized the three syllables in his name. "Nice to meet you." He wasn't quite sure if he should walk over, but felt kind of rude with his book still opened. Altair simply nodded and waited for the boy to speak again.

Kace was impressed with the stories. "That is pretty cool...not gonna lie." he grinned to her. "I know my parents have told me how they met. It is quite interesting knowing their sides of the story and how they fell in love." He had to comment about the South America aspect. "Your dad went to South America, what was that like??" he asked curiously.
"Well i am glad you met more people than me.." he winked and joked with her. "Well you know we are gonna be the nerds of the house. We like to learn and do homework." he chuckled.
As he was talking to Anna, he noticed Bri came into the common room. He smiled and waved her over to join them. "Hey Brianna!" he called out to her. "Oh i am doing just fine. I was doodling and then Anna joined me. We are indulging in gummy worms. Care to join?" he asked responding to her question.
Bri giggled when Kace called her Brianna, it was a simple mistake. "My name is actually just Bri.... it is not short for anything. I think my parents did that on purpose.." She said chuckling. " Ok." Bri said sitting next to him and smiling at Kace and Anna.
Bri smiled at Annaleecia, she seemed to calm down slightly. "I am Bri, and I am a first year." She said softly.
She nodded to what she said, "Charmed I'm sure." Anna forced the smile to grow slightly, not wanting to mope about and be pitied.

She nodded in agreement, "They really were..." As angry as she was at them for all they'd done, she still loved them, and missed hearing the story actually. Anna sighed as he asked, "Honestly? I'm not all that sure... I hugged her and started to tell her a few things, she snapped at me, I got angry, and then she threw a cup at my head..." And after that she ran as quickly as she could towards the common room to cry.

Awar came down from the dormitory, peeking into the common room to see who was lingering in there. A lot of younger students, yes. Time to make an impression.
Pulling on her beanie over her long, dark hair tighter, she crept over to a corner and leaned up against it, crossing one arm around her and the other reaching into her pocket for a chocolate frog.
Was 'cool' radiating off of her? Who knows? She only hoped these new students would at least think she LOOKED cool. Her eyes scanned for cute boys her age as she nibbled on her treat. It was natural habit, she really couldn't help it.
