Entering the common room through the same corridor as the kitchens the kitchens, you will find a pile of large barrels stacked in the shadowy stone recess to your right. The second barrel from the bottom, middle of the second row, will open when tapped to the enunciation of 'Helga Hufflepuff'. (*Note: non-Hufflepuffs who tap the wrong barrel, or the incorrect number of times, will result in one of the lids bursting off and dousing the trespasser in vinegar)
Following a sloping, earthy passage inside the barrel, which will then travel upwards slightly, a cozy, round, low-ceilinged room comes into view. Welcome! Your common room is like your sanctuary. During your seven years here, your house will be like your family. The room is decorated in the cheerful house colors of yellow and black, enhanced by the use of highly polished honey-colored wood for the tables and then round doors which lead to the boys' and girls' dormitories.
Directly over the wooden mantelpiece, which is covered with carvings of decorative dancing badgers, is a portrait of Helga Hufflepuff, your house founder and one of the four Hogwarts founders, toasting her students with a tiny, two-handled golden cup. There are small, round windows level with the ground at the foot of the castle, showing a pleasant view of grass and flowers, occasionally people. As a result of the low windows, the room has a year-round sunny feel to it.

Altair thought he heard the older boy speaking to him, but wasn't quite sure. He looked behind him and there was no one there, so it had to be him. Wow, someone actually acknowledged him, that was a first, but he didn't know how to take it. He was used to being kind of on his own, but he couldn't be introverted all the time. "'Ello, I'm Altair," he said as he emphasized the three syllables in his name. "Nice to meet you." He wasn't quite sure if he should walk over, but felt kind of rude with his book still opened. Altair simply nodded and waited for the boy to speak again.
"Hey Altair...you know that is a cool name." he nodded approving of it. "What year are you in?" he asked him.

I'm not all that sure... I hugged her and started to tell her a few things, she snapped at me, I got angry, and then she threw a cup at my head..." And after that she ran as quickly as she could towards the common room to cry.
Kace eyes widened and when she was telling the story. He saw her eyes well up and then he gave a confused look. He remembered Melek telling him the story by the lake but she didn't mention she threw something. He would have to ask her later. Then before he noticed she was leaving, "Anna...wait..." he began but she went to the common room.
He might as well leave her alone and just cool down.
That was my fault lol not hers... She didn't want to tell Kace about her crying

Anna looked at him confused, "Yes, Kace?" She gave a weak smile, "I know it's kinda idiotic... It just sucks... Then I feel awful for the things I told her." Because you know, it seemed so odd for an orphan to hold anger in, "And I just... I'm not normally like how I was with her. And I just wish I could tell her I was sorry for how I treated her." She sighed, feeling stupid for letting her anger get the better of her.

Awar's eyes stopped on a certain familiar person. A certain awesome familiar person. She waited until he drifted a little bit closer to her corner.
"Psst...!" She hissed from her corner, "PSST....PSSSSSTT!!" When he wouldn't answer her pssts, she tossed a half eaten chocolate frog at him and then soon regretted when she realized it was her last chocolate. Noooo!
Ian opened his eyes when he noticed darkness come over his closed eyelids. He opened them to see a girl's face over him. He struggled a moment at how to respond to her questions. He pursed his lips as he thought about this. Well, it seemed comfortable after I got done wandering the castle reading all the class rules. And, it was close to the fire. He looked down at her hands as she fiddled with the edges of the book. He had seen her around the castle and in class, he supposed he ought to introduce himself.
I'm Ian. Who are you?
He went and read all of the class rules? That probably took a while. Haruka wondered if he got lost. "Did you get lost?" She asked curiously, before she could stop herself.
'I just told him my name,' Haruka thinks. Maybe he missed her saying it, or maybe he's just slow. Either way, she repeated her introduction with a kind smile. "I'm Haruka."

He nodded at the question. Well, this is my second year. The big problem is those blasted moving staircases. One minute, you're headed in the direction you want to go, the next you're in a completely different wing of the castle. It just takes some getting used to.
He sat up a little bit so he could hear a little better, and see her. As she smiled, he noted that she seemed quite nice. Pleased to meet you Hakura She looked abit younger than he. You're a first year, are you?

"I just wanted to know if you were okay.." he asked her when she questioned him. He half grinned and came up with an idea. "Well why don't we plan somewhere and i can go with you and you could apologize to her?" he offered to her.

Oh my gosh! He ate her chocolate frog! How dare he! She was going to give him an extra squeeze for eating her treat! She was gonna eat it afterwards! (when everyone left and no one would see her being gross) "Kace Bear!!!" She squeezed him tightly, "I've been good. Chillin'." She leaned back against the wall. "How have you been, bud?"
"I didn't really know about the houses either", Bri replied " I am a muggleborn, you see. I heard a bit about them on the train, but that is it really." The young girl said.
"Muggleborn... riiight..." Jordan squinted a bit, the gears in his head turning a little, and then the word made sense and he brightened again, "Oh, right! Muggleborn! Sorry, I've only heard that a few times. I'm half and half, but my Da doesn't like it when my Mum uses magic that he can see, so I'm pretty much muggleborn too!"
Confident that she wouldn't think he was childish for being so excited, he shifted a little closer and whispered, "How rad is it that we get our own wands?!"

Kace smiled. NOW there was a nickname he hadn't heard in a while. He felt her squeeze him tightly and he squeezed her tightly back. I mean it was only fair right? He nodded and that was good. Chillin was always good.
"Oh i have been good. You know just excited for my third year. I can't wait to see what is in store." he nudged Lesta. "I wonder what adventures are in store for us."
After tossing and turning around in bed for a few minutes, the seventh year decided to go outside maybe some fresh air would help him. He packed some snacks before he leave the dorm.
He's about to leave the common room before he got a second thought. Maybe lingering around the common room won't be so bad and the comfy couch in their common room seem very tempting. He turned around and made his way toward the empty comfy couch. Now that he's sitting in the comfy couch, he want to lay down and take a nap. There's no rule that said you can't take a nap in the couch, right?

"Uh thank you," he smiled thinking of the little girl at the pet adoption that kept calling him "alter." Altair slowly shut his book as a shooting star soared across the page to give his answer, "I'm a first year. It's definitely been...interesting to say the least."

Getting out of the dorm had become one of Olly's most frequent 'things to do' lately. This time she was in search for Elodie in particular, even bringing their coloring books along with her. See? There, she cared, in case anyone had ever doubted that. Not that she was planning on doing any coloring here in the Common Room but well, maybe her dorm mate was going to be here. Then they could go some place else.
Only once she'd stopped right by the stairs she'd just come down from to scan the room in search for her friend it became quite obvious that Elodie was in fact NOT here. Actually, hardly ANYONE was in the Common Room right now. Which was good. At least that meant that she didn't have to go through the ordeal of making her way through crowds of annoying first years or something. Still. New plan, she needed one.
After another few seconds of just hovering on the spot, Olly decided to hang out here for a little while. Class didn't start until later and she was really not in the mood to do anything right now. So, sitting by the fireplace it was. Sideways in one of the armchairs. Seeing as the couch was occupied. By...whatwashisnameagain? That older Hufflepuff boy.
Placing the coloring books on the floor next to her, she regarded the boy in silence for a while from her spot on the armchair. Was he sleeping?

Marigold scooped her cat up and pet her behind the ears.
"How have you been?" she asked Adi. He seemed happy, which was good.
Adi was surprised by the hug but pleased at the same time. Only Elodie had ever hugged him. He returned the hug and accepted the invitation to sit with his friend. He watched as the cat joined them. "What's his name? Or is it her?'' He patted the cat. "I've got a toad,'' Adi added as he reached into his pocket and brought Gus out. "Meet Gus. I adopted him at Diagon Alley.'' He brought Gus a little bit closer to the cat and Mari. She wasn't afraid of toads, right?
"I've been great! Had a good summer and it's good being back at Hogwarts so, yep. I'm great.'' The second year grinned. "You?''
Ian had just asked the other girl who she was (probably not in the nicest way possible) when another one came in. She marveled about the common room and the decorations and seemed quite pleased to be a Huffie. It made Ian rather proud as he considered Hufflepuff the best house (and that was proved in winning the tricrowns last year). She did seem to ramble a bit but he was intrigued by her reactions.
He waved meekly at her and smiled to let her know she was more than welcome to ramble all she wanted to. She was amongst kindred spirits.
Looking around, Leah saw a boy waving at her (or was it another person?). She went over to him, determined to befriend him. "Hi, my name's Leah, I'm a first year." She said for the umpteenth time this day. "I guess you're not a firstie? You look really at home here." And she regretted saying that immediately. What if he was a first year?
SPOILER!!: Altair

If anything, he was going to look at all the moving picture. He'd never seen a book like this before and it was absolutely amazing! He took a seat in a big poofy yellow chair with fluffy pillow and flipped it open in the middle.
Leah watched a boy enter the common room absent-mindedly and jolted out of her thoughts when she recognized the boy. She walked to him slowly, observing him. "Er.. hi. Aren't you... are you?" She said, in an uncertain sort of way.
"Yes, you are! Nice to see you again. Al..." Leah exclaimed, again finishing uncertainly. She had forgotten his name, but it indeed had been months since they last met. "Sorry, I forgot your name. Are you a first year? And you're in Hufflepuff! Same house as me!" The girl said, saying out the question she was dying to ask the other day they met.

tomorrow?" She asked ooc:I can't rememeber if our charries talked about classes during the SoT feast...sorry
The common room armchair was definitely relaxing, and Leah was staring to feel sleepy. "Tomorrow's classes? I don't know... depends on what we have, really." The girl answered honestly. "Like, I like Flying and Herbology and all that outdoor stuff, but I hate those reading and taking notes subjects." Was she becoming a bit too honest? Well, it's good, isn't it?

Ian saw the girl he'd waved to coming over. He smiled as she introduced herself. Hi! I'm Ian. He realized he must have looked much older. Or at least that's the way he imagined it. He was pretty proud of himself. Well, you have a pretty sharp eye. I am a second year. Makes me feel better that I look older than a first year. He realized how pompous that must sound. He quickly tried to smooth it over. Of course there's nothing wrong with being a first year.
He nodded at the question. Well, this is my second year. The big problem is those blasted moving staircases. One minute, you're headed in the direction you want to go, the next you're in a completely different wing of the castle. It just takes some getting used to.

Haruka nodded. The castle did seem rather confusing. She'd have to remember that.
"Yes, I'm a first year," she replied. She noticed Ian looked slightly older than her, but not by much. "What year are you in?"
"I just wanted to know if you were okay.." he asked her when she questioned him. He half grinned and came up with an idea. "Well why don't we plan somewhere and i can go with you and you could apologize to her?" he offered to her.
"Yeah fine... It just sucks to argue with her." Anna gave a weak nod, "I mean, it happens all the time, but normally it isn't this bad... And especially when it happens somewhere that I don't really know..." Plus it hadn't happened since the beginning of the summer when she took her sister back home.

He was pleased he'd guessed correctly. I'm a second year. Where did you come from? He figured a conversation wasn't the worst way to spend an afternoon.
"I'M BACK!" Nate exclaimed in a very sing-song voice. Nate was back at his favorite common rooms for his final year. This is where Nate would spend his year in style. Playing with all the ickle firsties, second years, and third years! This would be his final year so he wanted to meet as many people as he could so that way he'd have people to remember other then his friends in his year. Nate noticed it was a bit quiet in the common room though....that would have to change. The Hufflepuff Common Room could never be this quiet with Nate around. Not at all. This was all way to bad. These kids had to have some fun! They'd only be here for seven years! So they might as well start partying now. Though Nate would make sure they still did their homework, and studied for their tests. Nate was fun, but he did have to make sure they followed the rules of Hogwarts.
"Who's ready to have some fun!?" He asked aloud for everyone to hear.
Altair brought himself to raise his eyes from the cover of his book to look up to new voice. Actually, it was quite a familiar voice. His eyes lit up at the sight of her, it was the girl from the bookstore. "Oh wow, it's you!" Altair blushed at him stating the obvious. He finally bolted from his seat and stood before the girl.
"Um... yeah, I got sorted into Hufflepuff, I'm pretty stoked actually," he grinned as he rocked back on his heels. "Oh, it's Altair," he said as he extended out his hand. "I don't think I caught your name when we first met." He actually didn't get around to it. They were kind of interrupted by some older kid and then his papa called him, so he kind of had to leave in a hurry. "I was hoping to see you again," he grinned, "And who knew we would end of the same house! That's awesome!"

"I'm from Wales," Haruka said simply. Oh, but was he curious about her name? That's why the few other people she'd talked to had asked. "Um, but my family's from Japan," she added quickly.

Ian nodded as she said she was from Wales. He was surprised. She didn't look like any Welsh person he'd met before. She answered the question before he asked. She was from Japan. He smiled and asked, Japan you say? Did your family come from a fishing village? He knew Japan was an island and figured most of them would be fishermen, like his family.

Then he knew this topic would come up. He grinned and nudged her back playfully. "Things are going pretty good. We are going to go ice skating soon so i am pretty pumped for that." he said shrugging like it was not a big deal.

Kace nodded. "Yeah being a first year, i loved it. I was on the quidditch team and yet i used my first year adorable charm, what i like to call it, to get away with things." he winked. "Like i wasn't bad, but i just snuck out of the common room late one night after curfew to get something to eat. The prefect laughed about it though because he was on the quidditch team with me." He smiled loving reliving his first year.
"But i want you to not try to get in trouble." he winked trying to set a good example. "But if you wanna take some adventures, i am soo in." he muttered to him.

"I am sure it is fine Anna.." he said consoling her. He gave her a hug and hoped that would make her feel better. "Sometimes the best of friends get into fights and they do make up." he said trying to make her feel better yet again. "But i think what you need is some like cookies or something or possibly go outside and do something?" he offered her his hand.
Kaiden plopped down on the couch with a groan. This was hard, much harder than he had ever thought it would be. These tryouts were exhausting, and he wasn't even trying out. He just had to watch everything, and remember stuff for when he made his decision. Even worse, wan't the fact that he was concentrating so much on the quidditch that he wasn't putting all of his effort into classes. No, it was the fact that he hadn't gotten to spend much time at all with Miks. And now, he was just to exhausted to track her down. Too many floors to go up looking for her. Nope, he was just going to sit right here and relax. Maybe send a owl later? yeah, maybe.
