Entering the common room through the same corridor as the kitchens the kitchens, you will find a pile of large barrels stacked in the shadowy stone recess to your right. The second barrel from the bottom, middle of the second row, will open when tapped to the enunciation of 'Helga Hufflepuff'. (*Note: non-Hufflepuffs who tap the wrong barrel, or the incorrect number of times, will result in one of the lids bursting off and dousing the trespasser in vinegar)
Following a sloping, earthy passage inside the barrel, which will then travel upwards slightly, a cozy, round, low-ceilinged room comes into view. Welcome! Your common room is like your sanctuary. During your seven years here, your house will be like your family. The room is decorated in the cheerful house colors of yellow and black, enhanced by the use of highly polished honey-colored wood for the tables and then round doors which lead to the boys' and girls' dormitories.
Directly over the wooden mantelpiece, which is covered with carvings of decorative dancing badgers, is a portrait of Helga Hufflepuff, your house founder and one of the four Hogwarts founders, toasting her students with a tiny, two-handled golden cup. There are small, round windows level with the ground at the foot of the castle, showing a pleasant view of grass and flowers, occasionally people. As a result of the low windows, the room has a year-round sunny feel to it.

"Leah, that's a lovely name," Altair smiled as he retracted his hand from the handshake. "I had no idea I would be sorted into Hufflepuff really. I didn't even know that there were different houses until people mumbled about it. I guess the house saw something in me that screamed Hufflepuff." He laughed. Altair always thought himself as loyal, so it fit. He never thought he had a lot of courage like a Gryffindor, or super intelligent like Ravenclaw or cunning like a Slytherin, so it would make sense for him to be a Hufflepuff.
Altair looked over her shoulder. Oh, it was that guy. "Something about that guy just made me nervous," he whispered. "I'm not used to someone so...so... effervescent." That kind of summed it up in the word. Altair was much more reserved and often kept to himself, except with a few. The fact that he was uttering more than three words to Leah was out there in itself. "How do you like school so far?" he asked. Altair was curious how other first years were handling the new environment. Often he felt the most lonely seeing everyone adapt so quickly and him always being a nervous wreck when it came to magic.
Leah grinned as Altair complimented her name. It was not a common name, and she liked it very much. "Thanks." As the boy started talking about the sorting, the first year's thoughts drifted off to her own Sorting, which was not a long time ago. The Hat had considered sorting her into Gryffindor, but she got into Hufflepuff, much to her pleasure.
Leah bent in closer to listen to Altair, and frowned slightly. "Effervescent? Sorry, what does that mean?" The girl asked. She hated long difficult words, although she could tell what it meant, looking again at the enthusiastic boy. "Are you muggleborn? 'Cuz another muggleborn girl I know is just like you. Y'know, a bit shy, and all that. Not that I'm never nervous or something, did you see me get sorted? I nearly cried." She said, giggling at that very thought. "School? I love Hogwarts! I haven't been to a lot of the castle, but I plan to visit most of them this year." Leah answered, nodding.
"How about you? Do you like it here? We can stick together if you like, like you know, going to classes, during mealtimes. Oh right, are you good at studying? Because I'm hopeless at that. Just telling you." Leah asked Altair excitedly. Who knows, maybe this boy sitting opposite her right now might be her life-time best friend!
It was nice to meet her? "Is it?" Olly smirked at him before going back to watching him in silence. Somehow it didn't look like he was going to go back to sleep any time soon. Sucks. Now, what else was she supposed to do until her next lesson started, hmm? There was no one else around.
At least no one interesting enough to engage with. Siiigh.
Ah. Food. Her eyes went back to Messer when he spoke up again. "...sure." She reached out and took one out of his hand. And because she really didn't have anything better to do Olly asked him a question. "You're in your last year, yeah?" It wasn't even a good question. A rather lame one really but whatever.
Huh? "Yeah. It is." Nodnod. "Its always meeting new people. Don't you like meeting new people? Not that you're new New. Obviously you're not new students. Okay maybe I should stop babble now." Whatjusthappened? Did he just babble? He never babble before....
Okay. Moving on.
Yes. Food. Well, at least she's not rejecting the chocolate frogs. "Yeah. I'm in my last year." GRIN. And he's really looking forward to graduate. "You? Are you in your last year too? Or?" Because he honestly can't tell which year Olly was in.

"What makes me soo special?" he asked her with a smile. "I did really like it. You were amazing. I gonna get you to play publicly one day. Then you will be thanking me." he winked and nudged her.
"Ah and thanks.." he said looking down at his drawings. "I mean this is how i pay attention in class sometimes. I can remember what the teacher said by which drawing i did." he said and then pointed to one. "See this one? I did it in Transfiguration when they were talking about the spells used to make the boats."
Then he referred to her music talent, "But the music talent thing. That is a great start for you."
"Well, you've been so nice to me so... I figured I could trust you to not be too critical of my singing." She looked up at him and shook her head rapidly as he said he would talk her into singing in front of others, "I... I really would rather not." She blushed yet again at the idea.
Anna nodded as he explained how the drawings help him focus, "It kinda reminds me of my music... I use it to remember things all the time." That didn't sound too odd right? Most of her old teachers had made up songs to try to help them remember.
"You really think it was good?" She looked at him surprised then laughed slightly, "Anastasia would always tell me to shush it when I tried to practice around her, so I never thought I was that good..."

Awww. "Thanks so much, Kace! That's very sweet." She had an urge to tousle his hair again, but thought maybe he had too much hair tousling for the day.

Of course it was nice to meet her. Olly didn't share the sentiment but didn't say so. She just shrugged. No, she didn't like meeting new people. Also no, she wasn't new new. She'd come here a year ago. So she was newer than him probably but not a new student. She just watched him in silence with her eyebrows slightly raised as he made his way through a couple of trains of thought.
"Yeah, good idea." To stop babbling that is.
Olly had moved in her seat once again so that she was lying on it sideways on her back, her legs dangling off one armrest and her head resting on the other. She put the unopened chocolate frog on her stomach and just looked at it for a moment.
Once he started talking again she briefly put her head back so that she could see him - upside down - smirking slightly at his obvious enthusiasm. "You keen on leaving then?" Looked like it. Olly WAS in fact glad she still had another year here. "No, I'm a sixth year." She looked down at the chocolate frog again, the back of her head facing Messer. She should probably unwrap it but effort.

The third year now settled himself in front of the fire, without noticing who might by nearby, and straightened a stack of parchment in his hands, commandeering a low-to-the-ground table nearby by setting the parchment down upon it. He placed an inkpot on the table too, as well as a quill.
With that, the boy opened up his heavily thumbed copy of Quidditch Through the Ages and set about looking for special moves and techniques and anything noteworthy that he may have missed in previous read-throughs. Without even realising he was doing it, Toby picked up his quill and twirled the feathered end in his hair as he read. Hmmmmm.
Marshmallow was being a lazy cat that evening, yes she was. The cat had spent the whole day running around and toppling things over in the dorms and perhaps shattering Hayley's photo frame and as fun as that may had been, she was tired and she needed some Hayley!snuggles.
Hayley was slowly falling asleep, however. It had been a long day and her pets were getting further and further apart when she felt something just leap out of her arms and onto the floor. Half rolling off the armchair and half climbing off, she looked for the fluffy white cat and found her snuggling up to someone whose face she couldn't quite see. His hair looked somewhat familiar, though.
"Marshmallow," she scolded, picking the cat up and sighing. "You don't just walk up to people and snuggle the- oh." She noticed who Marshmallow had been snuggling and almost laughed. It was the boy she had met on the train, the one with the pogo stick. Toby. "Hi."
Deciding that Hayley was done with her lecture and totally ignoring it, she made her way back to him and looked up at him adoringly. Won't you tell Hayley that everything she just said was totally and utterly wrong, perfect person? "Meooooow?" That was somehow supposed to convey the question. Hayley didn't quite get it, but who knew if Toby did.

"Noo nooo i thought you were horrible." he said sarcastically but chuckled afterwards and nudged her. "Well i think Anastasia was being mean to you." he told her honestly.
"Well if you become a superstar someday you know who to thank." he said pointing towards him and chuckled.

"But Ana's not that mean... Or well, not without reason to be... I'll admit I could be pretty rude to her." She looked down again, "But it was just hard... She didn't know why Mom and Dad gave us up... She just knew it happened shortly after I showed them what I could do."
Annaleecia gave a small laugh and then looked at him, "I'll be sure to." She nodded.

That was really embarrassing. He hoped that his face didn't turn into 50 shades of tomatoes. They could just pretend that he didn't babble just a few minutes ago, yes? Okay.
Messer almost forgot that he had unopened Chocolate Frogs in his hand. Maybe it'd help him from babbling again. He ripped it open and took a bite. "So, umm.. How do you know I'm a seventh year?" Was it because she noticed that he has grey hair and wrinkles? Did they come together with being a seventh year? Because if they're, he didn't like it very much. "Yeah. I like Hogwarts but seven years in here is enough for me." There's a whole world out there waiting for him. So yeah he can't wait to graduate. Sixth year? A year younger than him then.
The seventh year noticed that Olly hasn't open hers yet. She does know how to unwrap that thing, right?"I can open the wrap for you if you want." He pointed to her unopened Chocolate Frog.

Tobias had just come across a page with some pretty useful information about brooms and their agility and had just picked up his quill to dip it into his inkpot when he felt a nudging at his elbow.
The Hufflepuff's first thought was that Bludger had come over to say hello, but when he looked down he saw that this cat was not black, but white. He only knew of one white cat that liked to say hello to him.
"Hi Marshmallow," Toby grinned as the cat legit started to snuggle him. He chuckled and scratched behind the cat's ears just as Hayley turned up. He stifled a laugh as the cat made its way back over again, and reached out to start petting Marshmallow again.
"Hi Hayley," he added, this time obviously addressing his human friend. "It's okay, I don't mind. Marshmallow's always welcome to come say hello." Jake grinned back at the white cat again and did the ear-scratching thing again.
Still petting Marshmallow, Tobias looked up at Hayley again. "How've you been, by the way? I haven't had a chance to talk to you properly since the train." He HAD looked out for her at the Sorting of course, but there had been so many people at the Hufflepuff table and they'd sat nowhere near each other. "Have a belated 'welcome to Hufflepuff'."
Aaaaaaaaand back to the cat. "You too, Marshmallow."Scratchscratch.

The seventh year noticed that Olly hasn't open hers yet. She does know how to unwrap that thing, right?"I can open the wrap for you if you want." He pointed to her unopened Chocolate Frog.
Olly shrugged, eyes on the chocolate frog on her stomach. What kind of lame question was that? Did it matter? "I just do." She was observant like that. And she knew that he wasn't in HER year. And while she hadn't known his name up until now, she knew (roughly) how old he was.
Age WAS a lot more important than names after all.
Open the.....Olly actually snorted softly at his offer, turning the chocolate frog in her hands. Actually, what the hell. Why not? "Sure." She leaned her head back again to look at him before tossing the chocolate frog back to him. Ish. It was in the general direction of where he was. Yeah. Good thing she hadn't tried out for Chaser.

She just do? He shouldn't had asked that question. What people said about regret always come late, that's true. Now he knows. Lesson learn wise people.
He's about to catch the Chocolate frogs with his hands but it missed a few inches. Yup. He had zero catching things skill. Well, there's a reason why he try out for beater after all. Messer was considering to toss it back to Olly but he didn't want to be rude. He got up, walked toward where she's sitting and took her hand before put the chocolate frog in her palm. "I already wash my hands." In case she's wondering.
Messer went back to his couch. Flop. He's tired but he has no desire to sleep so more talking then. "You play Quidditch?" He saw her name on the try out sheet and he also saw her a couple times during the try outs so she must have played before, no?

And there went her chocolate frog.
Naturally, Olly decided that it was absolutely NOT her lack of throwing-skills. So Messer got a look. An unimpressed one. He REALLY was not good at catching things, was he? Laaaaame.
She'd leaned back again, not really interested in watching Messer open the chocolate frog for her. So it was QUITE a surprise to suddenly find him next to her. And taking her hand. What even.........she snatched it back but not before he could place the chocolate frog in her palm. She sent a half-hearted glare his way for taking the liberty to just touch her like that but she didn't say anything.
Olly broke off the chocolate frog's head and eyed it for a moment. "Tryouts, yeah." She hadn't played before. She still wasn't entirely sure WHY she'd decided to try out for the team, either. "You too." It wasn't a question but a statement rather. She'd seen him during tryouts after all.

Deciding that she would be a good Hufflepuff and do some homework in the Common Room, Lux made her way over to the study tables and placed her back on top of it before taking a seat. Today she wanted to start on her plan for the Herbology assignment, and even though she knew that she was planning to make, there were other things she needed to decide, and she also had to do a drawing. How on earth was she supposed to draw a Hobbit? She was by no means an artist, and it would probably end up looking really bad.
Besides... part of her was wondering if she would rather do a Ariel one instead, for The Little Mermaid.

Choices. Choices. Choices.
Adeline looked like her normal self today, her was all nice, neat, clean and wavy. She even had some make up on today and wasn't crying for the first time in three hours! Adeline walked down from the girls dormitory and into the common room, she thought it would be a good day to socialize, she had a feeling if she talked to anyone that she wouldn't cry or be angry with herself than Asher or the girl that kissed him. Adeline spotted Lux doing something. Homework? Drawing? She wasn't really sure, her vision was still a little blurry from crying earlier today.
"Hey, whatchu working on?"

"Hey, whatchu working on?"
Hearing Adeline, Lux looked up at her friend and smiled. It was clear that the girl had been crying earlier because her eyes were a little red, but still seeing the girl up and about when she had been so sad was a good thing. Stupid Asher for making Adeline sad.
"I'm working on my topiary plan," she explained. "I'm not sure if I still want to do a Hobbit one, or Ariel." Maybe Adeline would be able to help her decide because it would help her get her mind after Asher for at least the moment.

So his catching skill was suck. So what? No biggie, right?
He didn't know what made him offers to open the Chocolate Frog in the first place. Maybe because she just played with it or maybe because he just couldn't see someone wasted Chocolate Frog. Was she even going to eat it in the first place? Was she even like Chocolate Frog? But alas he already offered.
And now she didn't look to happy with him. Messer gave her a question look. WHAT.DID.HE.DO.NOW?!
Was that mean she played before? Or what? Okaaaay.....He officially confused. "Uh huh." He's not supposed to answer that but he just feel like he need to give her a response or something. Messer could feel a headache coming from before. So, nope. He's not going to ask her another question.

Lux was feeling a little hungry, so she headed down from her dorm to make her way over to the Hufflepuff table. While passing through the Common Room, she spotted Sander sitting on the sofa by the fireplace looking in the opposite direction from her.
Smiling, she made her way behind him quietly before covering his eyes with her hands. "Guess who," she said giggling.

Sander didn't have to guess. He immediately recognized that voice and giggle. He could recognize it even blindfolded. Only one person had a giggle like that, but he decided to tease Lux anyway. He placed his hands over hers and patted it a couple of times. Then he paused, pretending to think.
"Ummm....let me guess.....uh......Tessa?" he replied trying to hide the grin that was beginning to form on his face.

Pfft!
Sander was so silly sometimes. Moving her hands from his eyes, she nudged him on the shoulder playfully. "Guess again, lovebird." She knew that he had Tessa on the brain, and as long as she didn't see him making out with her or anything, she was in total support of them dating; even if she thought the whole dating thing was pointless. At least they were happy, right?
Beaming, she plopped herself onto the sofa beside him. "Thinking about Tessa again, huh."

Sander allowed the laughter he was holding back to spill over. "I knew it was you all along, Cucumber." he told her giving her a brotherly hug. Moving over so that she could sit beside him, he smiled and winked at her, "When am I not? It's days like these that I wish she was in the same house at us. I bet you would like that too....and of course that Bay was here too." he added, giving her a nudge.
The things that she and Bay came up with always made him laugh. He liked Bay and he knew that Lux did too...maybe more than she knew.

Hugging Sander back, Lux ruffled his hair some. "You better, old man." Teasing him because he was ageing and she was not. "Well, I'm sure that she is wishing you were in her House too." The Bay comment made her go mellow. "Huh?" She loved Bay, but as a brother. "Well, maybe sometimes I wish he was so that he could help me with homework...." She loved Tessa helping her with flying and spells, and she loved Bay helping her with homework. Plus Bay was special to her.
