History of Magic Lesson One - Near the Forbidden Forest
At a clearing near the edge of the Forbidden Forest there are three rather large campfires spread out circularly in a moderately wide berth. Once you join the rest of your class, you will find Professor McCormack waiting for you in the center along with several large boxes on the ground next to him. There is not enough room for everyone to join him in the center of the circle so he will prompt you to stand outside the fires and wait for the rest of the class to assemble before he resumes. He does expect you to be careful while you wait and there are magical enchantments placed around the fires to ensure that. For now.

he watched him dump his doll.. he looked into the flames and saw nothing happen to it.. "YAAAAA" he gave his friend a high five.
hmmmm now he wanted some s'mores and now that they are done he felt like it was a great time to do it. "S'more time man I am quite hungry" he was already starting to count how many he was about to eat.. 2 . no maybe 3 better round it up to 4.
"Do we like just leave the doll in the fire?" he asked.[/QUOTE]
Sander returned Bay's high five with one of his own.
"Pfft...I had nothing to do with your success at all. You did it all on your own. You'll make a great wizard one day," he smiled at his friend. Then his smile turned into a wide grin at the mention of s'mores.
"Dude you've just said the magical word, S'mores. Yes let's go join the others. I see that they've already started without us." Sander said pointing over at Tessa and Lux.
"Let me just get the dummy out," Sander told Bay as he reached into the flames for it. It still felt strange feeling the flames tickling his skin. Once he has the dummy out, he ended the spell by pointing his wand at the flames and saying,"Finite."

Bay started to walk over to the others for the campfire, at first he just sat down. He was starting to get so tired… "Yawn" he stretched his arms out and looked at the fire. "you can start with out me, i just want to rest for a minute." yup, so tired.

"GlaIncendia!" West said. "GlaIncendia!" Just repeating. Y'know. So it rolled off the tongue. West looked around even as he repeated the incantation. "GlaIncendia!" People were slow to get started huh? Lots of people still just standing around.
Well West was ready, he went and got one of the effigy doll things. It was time to see how things held up and all that. Since it was his turn, he stepped up to one of the fires and repeated the wand movement and the incantation together.
"GlaIncendia!" His wand pointed up, a tight circle with his wrist, and then a flick on the last part of the incantation at the fire.
No visible sign.... but a mild warmth yeah? West reached one hand out, not touching the flame but to feel the heat coming off of it. It DID seem cooler... Well. Okay. Effigy in then. He dropped it in the fire.
Now would it stay white or go green?

Right, after correcting his spell, which Tag was now repeatedly been saying over and over in his head after Professor McCormack had corrected him, Tag went to go grab one of those dolls from the box. He held it up in his hands, it looked like a voodoo doll to Tag. Is this the effect Professor was going with with the lesson today?
Anyway after picking a campfire Tag got out his wand and practiced the motion, rather quickly though because people might get impatient, before adding the spell in. Tight circular motion and flick. Tag did that movement a few times, tight circular motion and flick at the flames, " GlaIncendia." and then the blonde tossed the doll into the campfire

So long winded history man went up a few places in the cool-o-meter with this activity and the fact they were going to get to do smore and hotdogs added awesome! This came close to the potions lesson if not equal. There was flames.. FLAMES!! What could go wrong with when there were flames. Bart noticed the grin and grinned back. Another professor that wasnt yelling and kicking him out. People here got him or at least two people or professors, but maybe the man didnt really get him just being nice, whatever it was Bart didnt care he just wanted one of the worlds ugliest dolls to get started.
Setting down his book bag he actually listened to the professor not wanting to miss instructions. Once it was time he moved towards the box with the dolls. Looking around as he said they could work with someone older yeah that wasnt happening, because most the older really didnt seem to care for him or he thought they were lame. So not happening and was someone asking about ice, at a wizarding school. He just turned his head and bit his lip. Ice really? Maybe she had never heard of burn paste before. That stuff was his like best friend at times. Or well second best friend to Brynny.
Now time to work he moved towards a fire and said the word like the professor told them too GlaIncendia! GlaIncendia! GlaIncendia! He was saying it right wasnt he. Well since he was standing alone he would just say he was. He put his wand upwards and did a circular motion with his wrist and then flicked towards the doll, GlaIncendia! Now did it work? He looked around to make sure he knew what he was doing. Put it in the fire. Alright .
Tossing it into the fire the doll went up in green and then burned. Burn dolly burn.. witchy inferno.. burn dolly burn. Sorry not what he was suppose to do now was it, but it was still cool to watch it go up in smoke, but now to get another doll.

Caleb was getting annoyed that he wasn't getting this spell as fast as he usually did. He'd become accustomed to being awesome at everything, and here he was struggling! Maybe it was all the smoke - it was just making him squint and stuff and he couldn't concentrate!
"GlaIncendia!" he exclaimed, doing the wand motion once more and pointing at the flames. He then took another doll and tossed it in. He waited for the inevitable combustion of the doll for a few minutes, but nothing. Did that mean it WORKED?!
Well...only one way to find out...
He reached forward into his fire and...giggled. THAT TICKLED! Hey, that meant it had worked! Gleefully he grabbed the doll and pulled it from the flames. "Saved ya!" he exclaimed with a grin.

Alright, back to the spell!
"GlaIncendia!" he exclaimed, doing the circle movement and then flicking his wand towards the flames. He took the new doll that he'd snatched from the box and tossed it at the flames. This time it took longer to burst into flames, but it still burst into flames nonetheless. UGH.
Adi couldn't help but grin. "Not afraid of dolls are you, Caleb?'' he asked. But he hadn't been throwing any dolls at his friend. Nope. It was in the fire, quietly burning away. Poor thing.
..............
Will you look at that? Adi's second doll was looking quite normal! Which meant..he got the spell right! Awesome! Time to test it on his skin. Cautiously- just in case- he stretched his hand towards the flames. He didn't feel any heat radiating from it so feeling a bit more confident, he just stuck his hand into the flame. The Professor was right! There was a ticklish feeling and Adi was completely enjoying it. Plus he was marveling at what this charm could do. Flames need not be so threatening anymore.

Sophie was sure she had the directions down pat. She flicked her wand out her holster then went to gather a doll. Ewww. If these weren't creepy then she didn't know what was. She eyed the faceless doll. No wonder it was getting burned. It looked like it had no soul.
She eyed her brother and Adi not too far away then strolled a little closer. "Hey, boys," she said. She accidentally brushed her shoulder against Adi as she stepped up to them, but she didn't notice. She then went about practicing the spell. Not with the doll, of course. "GlaIncendia," she said, getting a feel for the incantation. "GlaIncendia."
Well, the wording wasn't too hard at least. "GlaIncendia," she said again. She eyed the fire and the ingredients for making s'mores. Now she was just hungry. Maybe if she hurried, she'd get through in time to eat some.

Dolls? What? Alice had been looking forward to getting to stick various body parts inside a fire for testing, not ensuring that they were safe with effigy first. At least she could drop an arm in after or something. And eat.
Oh, well. She waited until it seemed like all the younger students were out of the way or had already attached themselves to an older one- so she wouldn't have to help, obviously- before moving on to practice the incantation. Spell mastery, you know?
"GlaIncendia." Okay. "Gla-ci-al-is In-cen-di-a. Gla-ci-al-is.. Glac-i-a-lis? Glacialis. GlaIncendia." Could they have a professor breaking down the pronunciations for them nitpicky ones every lesson? Please?
"GlaIncendia." Enough of that, yeah? Yeah.

Still roasting his hot dog over the flames, Braith glanced around at the first students to attempt the spell. So far so good.. and then he raised an eyebrow as he heard a spell that he clearly did not teach, though most of them would know that one. Hm. Wouldn't be a bad one to use if the flame freezing spell worked, but certainly not a good idea to use on a flaming doll. At least the girl had the sense to drop it immediately.
Tucking the metal stick under one arm, Braith took a few steps over to Miss Jensen and pulled the pot of burn cream from his cloak pocket. "Let's see that hand." He gently lifted her hand into view. Didn't look too bad, but was a bit red and he was sure it hurt. Braith lathered a generous amount of burn paste onto her hand. That should work immediately. "Alright?" he asked, looking at her. "Try again?"
At that, he looked at the rest of the class. "Everyone!" he called out to get their attention. "If your spell does not work and your doll does burn, just leave it in the fire, alright? You can always get another one." There was plenty. Let's try to keep the injuries at bay. And back to roasting that hot dog
Whoa, what was that stuff? It was a million times better than ice! The hurt went away almost instantly. "Thanks!" she beamed. Magic was basically the coolest thing ever. Try again? That was a little more difficult. She was going to get that pasty stuff on her wand. Why hadn't she caught it with her non-dominant hand? Well, she could wash and polish her wand later.

"GlaIncendia. GlaIncendia. GlaIncendia." Delilah said loudly, repeating it a few times. It was important to pronounce the spell properly, yeah? Before putting it to practice?
.... And she frowned when heard a little girl nearby say that she wanted ice. Was she okay? Did she injure herself? Delilah walked over to Braith and the little girl, the frown deepening on her face. "Uh professor, is she okay?" She asked, watching him dab some paste on her palm.
That was nice of the girl to be concerned. Gwen held up her pasty hand. "I'm much better. Thanks." Back to the "try again" part. Gwen retrieved a new doll, this one was so charred she wouldn't be able to tell if the spell was working at all.
"GlaIncendia," she tried again. She had learned that half of magic was intent, so this time she really poured her intention to make the flames not burn into the words. Because after that burn, she really didn't want the flames to be hot anymore. Circular motion and flick. "Your turn," she muttered to the doll-thing tossing it into the flames.

No need to sneak behind the Professor's back and have s'mores, he was making provision for them to after they got this done with. Shame they couldn't try the fire out on each other, even for pretend. That would have enhanced the experience, don't you think? Actually seeing their fellow classmates, tied and on fire? It would have made for good reference later on. Just saying.
Alexa snatched a doll--funny looking thing, wasn't it?--from the pile of others then tried that whole waiting for a fire thing. Not much waiting to do after she saw Alice step up to one.
They were sharing. Yup.
Lex fell in step next to Alice and began muttering the incantation with her. "Gla-ci-as In-cen-di-a....Gla-ci-as In-cen-di-a" 'Sup Cap'n? They were exercising that sharing thing people talked about. Lex said it another time or two. "You should cast then lemme stick my hand in." She suggested casually. The doll could try too...but after she was done.

After having thrown in the doll towards the flames Tag stared at it for a couple of seconds. Hoping no one behind him was getting impatient because he was checking if he had done his work right. Well, at first he waited for the doll to catch on fire, little specks of flame dancing all over its body but nothing happened. Hmmm. Was that how Tag knew if he was right? It seemed right. At least that's what the Professor's doll had looked like after he had demonstrated for the class.
Satisfied with his work, Tag left the doll there. Was he supposed to leave it in there? Well, the world will never know. Hopefully Professor hadn't seen him. Actually, to Tag, this class hadn't been boring, at all. Go figure.
Anyway, he went over to the boxes near McCormack, grabbed some crackers, chocolate and marshmallows. Grabbing one of the metal sticks Tag started to poke it into the marshmallow and slowly roasted it to a crisp color, then stacked the chocolate and other graham cracker on top of it, then began to enjoy his treat. Could they have more then one? "Excellent lesson, Professor." Tag said to McCormack, facing him after he had finished his bite.

It was s'mores time! Happily, she watched Tessa grab the things they would need for their snack and watched as she placed them on her bag. "This is so much fun, Tessa. I want to go camping!" She wished she could go camping with Sander, Tessa, Bay, and Lucas because it would be so much fun!
Giggling as Tessa poked Bay, she went behind him and put her arms around his back. "No being tired, Bay. We are supposed to be eating s'mores." He was lucky that they were near a camp fire, or she would have jumped on his back again; but as it was she knew that could be rather dangerous since Tessa had lifted the spell on the flames.
Grinning, she took her stick from Tessa. "Thank you."

Now the girl was practising wand movement. Lex didn't see the need in flicking out her own wand, she just watched her with hers and mentally went over the movement. It didn't look at that hard at all...more like one of those things that was influenced by how much wrist one put into it. Not a problem, now if only the kid in front would be done burning the bloody doll and give someone else a chance.
"GlaIncendia...GlaIncendi--" Wait what? Lex fixed Alice with a look. Wasn't she concerned for her at all?
"I'd rather use my doll to test my own fire." for just in case reasons obviously. She rather liked her hand when it wasn't burnt, you know? "You usually get spells right on the first or second try these days being a Seventh Year and all so I can trust it more. Wouldn't want me damaging anything before the season even starts, right?" Merlin knew she was having enough of a hard time trying to figure how to fly with hurting wrists. Let's not add burns to it.
Lex looked infront again. Oh was he done? No? Too bad. As casually as she could manage, the Gryffindor shoved the kid to the side and stepped up to the fire ahead of Alice.
"Come on, get casting."

Placing the dummy with the others, Sander walked over to join his friends. "Hey there, how's the s'mores tasting. Could I have a stick please? I'm going to try something with mine," he grinned at Tessa.
Taking a stick, he stuck a marshmallow on it. But before putting it over the fire, he took out his wand, pointed it upwards and with a circular twist of his wrist, he said,"GlaIncendia" and then stuck his marshmallow into the flames.
He grinned when he saw the marshmallow remain untoasted despite being in the middle of the flames.
"Hey guys take a look at this? Isn't this awesome? he called out to his group. "The marshmallow isn't even burnt." Sander showed them as he pulled it out of the fire. "Finite." he pointed his wand at the flames ending the spell.
"Okay Tessa. Can you now show me how to do it the right way?" Sander grinned at her.
Toby had repeated the incantation back to the professor when he asked them to, and watched the wand movement closely and subconsciously mirrored it with his hand that still hung by his side. He listened to the instructions and eyed the fires and the effigy dolls.
Before he made a move to go and grab one, though, he had a routine for practicing spells. He already knew the incantation, but it was a bit difficult for him to get used to saying it out loud.
So now he bought his wand hand, complete with wand, up in front of him, all the easier to practice the spell. Tight circular motion and FLICK towards the target. And rinse and repeat just to commit it to memory.
Once he'd practiced the wand movement a few times, Toby, who still had not moved from his position, put the two together, being sure that the 'flick' didn't end up with his wand pointing at anyone or anything, just in case he actually did the spell by accident and/or it went wrong.
"GlaIncendia," the boy murmured, before doing the circular movement with his wand pointed upwards, and ending the 'spell' with a 'flick!' towards the empty space in front of him. Okay.
Now the hard part was to actually nail it. Scrunching his nose slightly, Tobias went over to the pile of creepy looking white effigies.

His doll wasn't responding, which, frankly, was probably a good thing, and Mo took that as permission to set the thing on fire. The incantation was easy enough, especially after practicing it a few times. Really, it was the wand movement that seemed tricky, with that flick at the end in particular.
Mo rotated his wrist a few times, a tight circle followed by a flick, then another circle followed by a flick. A flick... toward the doll? That seemed likely, since he was casting the spell on the doll.
Mo pointed his wand upward, rotating his wrist in a circle before flicking his wand at the doll. "GlaIncendia." There wasn't any notable change, although Mo turned the doll every which way to examine it. It seemed sort of... shameful that the only way to check if the spell worked was by putting the object right into the fire.
Mo chucked his doll into the fire and watched it immediately turn green and then black. Charred. To a crisp. "That... didn't go well."

Tessa laughed. "That would be a lot of fun," she said as she loaded up the sticks with marshmellows before handing them out. She also got the crackers and chocolate ready- it was annoying to have to assemble them when the marshmellow was already hot and gooey. Best to have it ready before.
She giggled as Lux tried to wake Bay up more and began to cook her marshmellow. That was when Sander joined them. "Just started," she said, handing him a stick with a marshmellow. However, when he cast the spell, she laughed. "That's not going to help this at all," she scolded with a laugh. "You need the heat to caramelize the marshmellow," she told him.
"You haven't done this before?" she asked Sander, a smile on her lips. "Try to find consistent flame, and then slowly rotate it so that it gets evenly cooked. When you see it really get golden brown, that's when it's perfect," she told him, and pulled hers out of the fire. "See?"

Bay couldn't help but snort.. his friends were so awesome they wouldn't let him rest before eating S'mores. He was poked and pulled. "OHHH Alright" he said while getting to his feet. Stick in hand he waited for Tessa to make the fire actually burn normally. He stuck his marshmallow on his stick and then put it in the fire.
oh marshmallows burn so quickly, he removed his stick and tried to blow it out.. OOHHHH NOOOO it wasn't working. He didn't think and only reacted for he really wanted to eat that Marshmellow, he started to wave it back and forth and then SLIP it fell off and landed in front of him.
"NOOO MARSHMELLOW!!!" he said out loud, his first sugary sweet of the day and it fell in the dirt. Bay looked at Lux, Tess and Sander.. with very sad eyes, maybe because he was tired but he started to get teary-eyed.. marshmellow

Lux grinned as Sander joined them at the fire and Bay got to his feet. Now they were all together and it was so much fun because she was with her best friends. Too bad Lucas wasn't here, because he was her best friend too. "It is amazing, Sander. I was just telling Tessa that I want to go camping." They would have so much fun,
Happily, she assembled her s'more and put it to the fire to get all nice and gooey. Seeing Bay drop his marshmallow, she pouted. "Do you want my s'more, Bay? I can make a new one." He seemed to have really wanted his marshmallow.

"Okay now's my turn." Sander stuck his marshmallow into the fire and waited to turn a golden brown like Tessa had told him to do. However, she didn't say that he had to keep a constant eye on it, because he just happened to glance over at Tessa for a second and the next thing he knew, "WHOOSH"....his marshmallow burst into flames and melted off his stick.
He pouted and looked back at Tessa. "I think I like using the spell better. At least I still would have my marshmallow."

The poor little dollies. Caterina made sad faces at the slightly creepy looking doll that the Professor had just tossed into the fire. Luckily, though, the poor thing had not been burned up to dust. That was always a good thing. She smiled at Mo and retrieved herself a doll. Then she kissed it. You know. For good luck.
Now here was the part she wasn't keen on. She didn't quite like casting with her non-dominant hand, but she'd had to recently, so it wasn't such a big deal. She practiced the movement just a bit, for that reason. "GlaIncendia....." Cat repeated that one more time, it was pretty easy to remember, though. Uhhh... Mo had burned his poor doll.
"Maybe you should have kissed it for luck." She suggested helpfully.

Then Sander realized that he had missed answering Lux's question. "I'm sorry, Lux. I was totally focussed on getting my marshmallow that I forgot to reply to your comment. " Sander quickly apologized to the younger girl.
"Camping? Sure that would be awesome. If you want you can come visit me during the summer at my home and I'll take all of you up into the woods at the back of my home. It's a beautiful place and you can see lots of bears, and deer and even some wild rabbits." he suggested to everyone.
"Yes guys, if you can, I would like for you guys to come stay at my place for the Summer. I know you'll be coming to visit for the Christmas holidays, but my place is awesome during the Summer." he invited them.
That would also give him a chance to spend time with Tessa after he left Hogwarts. That thought made him sad. Realizing that he wouldn't get to see her everyday after he graduated.
