Braith glanced at his watch several times as he waited for more of his students to make their way towards the clearing. Some of them certainly were taking their time, weren't they? Of course he knew that he had given them the option of being dismissed, but he could see the line of children headed his way. Just very slowly. Hm. They'd better be more alert than that if they wanted to participate. He didn't want any serious injury here.

As the last of the stragglers were making their way over to the campfires, McCormack was growing increasingly aware of a lot of talking from a handful of students. Sure, he expected excited whispers wondering what would be happening next, but, uh.. this was excessive. Clearing his throat, he cast a pointed look in the direction of Misters Strand and Bay and Misses Carrington and Hedge (though he could see the latter was at least quiet). Still.. holding hands, making eyes at each other, general chattiness.. that would not do well for a lesson that required strict attention. "I hope my lesson isn't interrupting whatever date you're having, but I need your focus on me now." Merlin. He turned his eyes to the rest of the class, grinning a bit at Mr. Maroon's enthusiasm. We'll get there, don't worry kiddo.

"Alright class, I need everyone's eyes on me please," he said loudly, calling for attention now as he determined it was time to start. "I'm not really going to burn any of you at the stake," he chuckled lightly having caught some of the looks the younger students had. Morbid sense of humor.. oops? "We'll be practicing with something else." Braith opened one of the boxes an pulled out one of the many cloth effigy dolls inside.

But first, the spell. "The Flame Freezing Charm is a fairly simple one to learn. I don't really expect any of you to have any problems with it, even the younger ones. Though if you're nervous about it, I'd appreciate if some of the older ones could partner up with and help out your younger classmates?" He nodded to a few of the student leaders. Partnering wouldn't be mandatory, but it might be helpful for the weak at heart. "The incantation is GlaIncendia.. Everyone repeat that please?" He looked around a moment at the students. "And the wand movement.. Hold your wand pointing upwards, it's a tight circular motion with the wrist, then flick it at your target." He demonstrated the movement, then flicked his wand towards the fire nearest to him, commanding, "GlaIncendia!"

"Now, the fire will not change in appearance but the spell drastically reduces the temperature to a mild warmth. Some describe the flame sensation as tickling." He looked around to make sure they were all still paying attention to help prevent injury. "These are real fires, not magical ones, so you must be certain that your spell worked before you can touch it. This is what we will use for that." He held up the white doll then tossed it into the fire. "If your spell worked, the doll will remain unchanged. If not, the doll will immediately burn bright green then blacken as it burns." He glanced down at his doll that stayed white in the fire. "If you're confident, you can put your hand in the fire." Braith leaned down, allowing his hand to be engulfed by the flames, then pulled it out. "A simple Finite stops the spell." He pulled the doll out before flicking his wand at the fire again to return it to its original state.

Did someone say s'mores? He grinned over at Mr. Maroon and Mr. Kildare as they seemed to be peering into his mind today. "No need to summon anything, I have everything we need for that." He inclined his head towards one of the two remaining boxes. "Sure.. once you're done practicing the spell, feel free to make s'mores or roast hot dogs." He walked over to one of the boxes that held campfire tools, pulling out a long metal stick, then opened the other box with all the food inside - packages of hot dogs, graham crackers, chocolate bars, and marshmallows. Poking the hot dog onto the spiky end, he held it over one of the fires. "Any questions? If not, come up and get a doll and go ahead and get started." He'd hang out right here making sure nothing seriously wrong happened... oh and have a snack while he was at it.

OOC :
Please make at least 3 posts, RPing your character practicing the spell. They MUST use one of the effigy dolls from the box and be certain the spell worked before touching any flames, though it is ok if the spell doesn't work.

Partners are not mandatory but certainly can be used if your character requires that. Chose one of the three campfires, you don't have to wait for someone else to finish before you begin. Just pretend that it's your turn.

Be aware that these are real flames but Professor McCormack has placed enchantments around them to ensure nobody falls into them. DO NOT RP ANY SERIOUS INJURIES. We have burn paste for anything minor.

After the three posts, feel free to RP your character making s'mores or roasting hot dogs. We will be here reading everything, but if you need assistance, titling your post with Professor is always helpful.
