Stepping into the arena, you are immediately enveloped with the light shining into the room, either morning or evening depending on what time you decide to enter. If you can tear your gaze away from the intricately designed windows and high ceilings could, you can see to the very right of the room, there is the long platform in which supervised duels will take place while four benches on either side are placed at a safe distance for those who would like to sit and watch. Just ahead of the platform in the right corner, there is a door, though pay no attention to it. It's locked for a reason.
Towards the back wall, there are various types of practice dummies, both stationary and moving, depending on what difficulty the practicer wants. Don't be afraid to go all out with your spells, for these dummies are charmed to repair themselves. There is one practice dummy set aside that will shoot spells back to the practicer, however, permission from a Professor is required to use it. To the left side of the arena are two sets of stands, eight seats high, that look out to the entire arena, comfortable for those who would just like to watch what's going on all around or for general purposes such as studying or relaxing after a long day in the arena.
The middle of the room is quite empty, due to the fact that the defense Professor enjoys presenting lessons in here, but please, despite the brilliant light that shines through the arena due to the large windows, it is not some place to sunbathe or fall asleep. You will be levitated out with a good dose of cold water splashed on you if caught.

... Probably not.
The seventeen year old found himself full on laughing at Adi's suggestion, and even more so when the boy suggested that he could see Alec in Loki's clothes. "I guess... it's a pity we didn't come dressed up in the right costumes, then," he said, "Duelling would have been a lot more interesting!" ... Just... nobody tell Romanos he had said that, yeah?
He watched tentatively... and then...
"YES!" Had anyone seen that? YEAH? NO? It didn't matter since... LOOK AT ADI! Alec started clapping and cheering when his spell hit the shield that Adi had managed to put up. "Man, that was BRILLIANT! Congrats!" GRIN. "I'm really glad that the superhero thing worked." Really. Because the boy was going to end up getting desperate in his attempt to find something that'll help.
... Oh! "Hey, so... I have to practice the stunning and reviving spells too so... do you think I could try that on you and you could try and block those spells too?" That way, Adi could get his practice in too.
Superman! Adi nodded enthusiastically. "The Man of Steel! Who doesn't like him?'' He could understand why he was Alec's favourite. Superman was super cool with his super strength! He'll call Alec Super Alec from now on. Or super Seeker? Any works for him!
It was now Adi's turn to laugh. "Costumes would have definitely been more interesting,'' he agreed and suddenly pictured himself in a Thor costume. Meh. He'd make a puny Thor.
The first year excitedly bounced on his feet. He did it! Yay! Now, all he needed was to practice some more. And Super Alec had just the solution! "That's fine with me!'' It was a win-win for them both! He readied himself. Bring on the spells!

The man of steel! "Exactly!" Alec said, nodding along, "He's really strong... and brave! And full of courage and... he's just REALLY awesome!" See, he was REALLY glad that Adi could understand what he was talking about. Anyone else would... probably think he was being weird. Apart from someone who knew him really well.
Nodnod. More interesting... yeah. He was glad that Adi thought so. And he was even more glad that the boy, in turn, agreed with his plans. "It might be a little harder at first, I guess," Was the stunning spell harder to block than the disarming charm? He... needed to ask Romanos about this at some point. Or maybe he should have asked her this before. Yeah.
"You're doing brilliantly so far, yeah?" Encouragement. Just in case things didn't work out well the first time round. This was a whole new spell to protect yourself from, after all. But... it was going to help the boy, yeah? "Hope you're ready!" Stunning spell... this was going to be simple enough.
Without warning, he lifted his wand and cried, "Stupefy!"

Adi could see he was going to sort of be like Alec when he was older. The superhero nerd. Hehe. And that was fine by him!
Adi nodded. He knew it might be difficult but he was determined. Plus he had his confidence and the encouragement Super Alec was giving him. Yep! He was all ready. Just one concern..."If I do get stunned,'' he said. "You do know how to wake me up, right?'' He eyed the older boy. He was sure Alec knew how to do it but he was just making sure.
Okay, let's do this! The first year was ready for Alec and his super fast reflexes. Wasting not time, he raised his wand. "Protego!'' Cue all the concentration he could manage! Awesome! Alec's spell wasn't reaching him! He grinned. He had gotten it again.

Adi's question made Alec pause... and blink. Did he know how to revive someone who's been stunned? "Oh yeah yeah!" he said, nodding and waving his hand, "I promise to wake you up and not... you know, draw whiskers on your face." ... Yeah... maybe he shouldn't have said that.
... WHOA.
Alec's eyes widened as he looked at the first year. "DUDE!" he cried, a wide grin spreading across his face, "That was AWESOME!" The guy had actually managed to block the spell! And what was more impressive was the fact that the spell had come out of nowhere so... Adi had managed to protect himself right on cue without a warning. Impressive!
"Well done, Adi!" GRIN. He couldn't hug the boy just yet so... two!finger salutes. YEAH!
... Right. Moving on. Yeah. "Stupefy!" Another surprise attack of the stunning spell! Just... to see if the boy could protect himself again.

Not right now, though, when life and limb were in certain peril. Alice was the sort of dueler one always wanted on his own side rather than as an opponent. She was fast and clever on her feet... and basically a better dueler than Mo was.
No, not basically. She just was. He was probably going to lose, but he'd go down with a fight.
Alice cast on him, and once again, Mo threw up a shield spell. "Protego." It seemed that his shield was woefully insufficient against Alice's spell-casting, especially when she meant it. He'd need a better way to block her spells if they were going to be dueling again any time soon.
In this case, because his shield failed, the spell hit his wand hand and sent it flying. What?! Noo... Mo scrabbled after it, knowing that his guard was down and his flank absolutely exposed to the worst of whatever Alice had to offer. If this was a real duel, Mo would have all sorts of rules he had to follow - basically he would already have lost.
But it wasn't a real duel, and Mo didn't want Alice to cast on him as he was picking up his wand. Instead, as his fingers closed around his wand, Mo threw a chair at her. "Wingardium Leviosa." Or hovered a chair at her. Whatever. It was a stupid spell, regardless.
This was taking forever, and the length of their duel had Alice growing more and more restless by the minute. She had assumed one of them would have come out on top by now, but Mo was managing to block nearly every spell she sent his way. Until now, that was. Alice grinned as his wand went flying, and she would have considered herself the winner if he hadn't gone scrambling.
But it was cowardly to cast someone's behind, so she waited for him to turn around again.
"Reducto." And that was the end of Mo's chair throwing attempt. What else could she try on him? Alice was running out of options. New incantations were a must when dueling with a knowledge-thirsty Ravenclaw like this one, on account of the rarer spells were breaking his concentration. It wasn't that difficult to tell. But what spells hadn't she used already?
"Petrificus Digitirus." Plus a very spirited UPSIDE DOWN U. Yeah.

Oh goody! Adi felt relieved Alec could wake him. And whiskers? He stared. He squinted at Alec. That boy was so childish! But he didn't tell him he won't mind whiskers. Nope. Let's just see what would happen.
"Thank you!'' Adi said with a small bow. Wow! He was even surprising himself! It seemed that not all spells were difficult for him and for which he was glad. He returned the two finger salute with a huge grin. He felt on top of the world! And it was that feeling that made him let his guard down for the next thing he knew Alec was aiming at him again.
"Protego!'' But it was not strong as he wanted it to be. And his concentration wasn't as half as good as before. The result? A feeble shield that did not hold up for more than three seconds and the next thing Adi knew was the spell hit him straight in the gut. Eyes wide with surprise, he went tumbling to the floor.

Heh.
There was Caleb, all out in the open with his focus on some other student. It was the perfect opportunity for her to sneak up on him and get some practice in for her Defense Against the Dark Arts homework.
Sophie got into the dueling arena and snuck around until she was at a good position to cast on her brother. She waited a few minutes, that way she wouldn't jump into things too quickly and get herself caught. Finally, she saw the perfect opportunity.
She jumped out with her wand aimed at Caleb. "Expelliarmus!" she called out.

Caleb had been focusing on the Gryffindor girl - what was she waiting for? - when suddenly he felt his wand fly out of his hand. Wait, wha...
He turned around and saw Sophie standing behind him, pointing at the spot that his wand had previously occupied. Ah. Well played Sophie, well played. He grinned mischievously and went to grab his wand.
"Oh, it is ON Sophie!" he exclaimed. "Expelliarmus!" he cried, pointing it at her wand and hoping he made contact.

Alec didn't understand the squinting. Nope. But was he going to ask about it? ... Probably not.
"Anytime!" he said, slightly amused at the bow. He arched his back and bent back, gentleman-style. And the boy was giving him a two finger salute back! And there was the grin! Yeah... Alec was really glad as to how this was turning out. Maybe he could go and tell Romanos about this. Or Hadley! This was practically Badger bonding, except for the tiny fact that Alec and Adi weren't Badger Buddies.
... BLINK. BLINK. STARE.
He shouldn't have been this surprised or shocked at what happened next but he really was. Adi... was laying on the floor. And sure, it was just the stunning spell but... well... dude was tiny! He hadn't been hurt, right? Alec shook his head before rushing over towards the stunned boy, dropping to his knees at the last minute. Right... yeah... the boy was going to be okay. And Alec... he wasn't going to get Howlers from the Rehmans, was he?
'...HOW DARE YOU STUN MY CHILD! YOU ARE MEANT TO BE A RESPONSIBLE, MATURE SEVENTEEN YEAR OLD. YOU DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, GO AROUND ATTACKING PEOPLE YOUNGER THAN YOU...'
... No. He was going to be okay. Alec was going to make sure of this. Pointing his wand at Adi's chest, he cried, "Rennervate!" ... Work? Please? Yeah?

Adi was quite enjoying himself. He was on his way to mastering the Shield Charm and he had an excellent friend to help him with that. His parents would be so pleased with his progress!
But right now, the poor kid was on the floor of the Dueling Arena completely out of his senses while his older Housemate panicked. He had no idea how long he was out of it, but he finally snapped his eyes open to see a worried Alec. "Hey, dude! What time is it?'' Grin. He was fine! Alec could stop worrying now. "Your Stunning Spell seems to be in order,'' he reported as he sat up. His right hand hurt a bit. Did he fall on it?
Rubbing it, he looked back at Alec. "Ready to have another go?'' Because Adi sure was ready!

HAHAHAHA!
That was excellent, and what had it so great was that one, Caleb hadn't even seen it coming, and two, Sophie had actually succeeded! She threw her head back and got a good laugh out of that.
It's on? "Oh, is it?" she asked. "Well, now that I'm expecting it, you won't have much luck." Caleb's spell came right at her, but since she was expecting it, she was able to catch it in time. "Protego!" she said in return. A second later, not giving him much time, she added, "Expelliarmus!"

WHOA she was going a lot faster than he had anticipated. He hated to admit it, but he panicked just a tiny bit and pointed his wand at her, yelling "Expellotego!" on accident, blending the two spells together in his haste.
Instead of her spell hitting his wand, his wand got hot with a bright SPARK thanks to his made up spell and his dropped it, grabbing his hand. "Ouch!" he grumbled.
"Do it again, I messed up!" he called. Yeah. That was obvious. He picked up his wand and let out a sigh of relief when he found it wasn't hot anymore. Back to it's normal self.
Right. Note to self, don't do THAT again.

BWAH HAHAHA!
"Expello-what, Caleb?" she asked. She shook her head, grinning at him all the while. "If this was a real duel, you'd be in a lot of trouble. Just saying." If he was this bad at Defense Against the Dark Arts, then she had failed him as a sister.
"That's just it, Caleb," she said, advancing on him. "Don't request that I do it again. Pick your wand up and cast on me when you think I'm least expecting it."
"You know, if this was a real war--..." PAUSE. "EXPELLIARMUS!" she said again, interrupting her own sentence to try and catch him by surprise again. "Like that."

... ... ... WHAT?!
Adi was AWAKE! YEAH! But... the casualness of it all threw Alec off completely. Then there was the small fact that the boy was... asking for the time? Confused Summers was confused. "Erm... I..." WHAT?! ... Shaking his head, Alec glanced down at his watch before saying, "It's... it's just gone 3pm." Which meant that they had been at this for quite a while now.
Frowning a little, the seventeen year old looked back at the boy who... was now sitting up and pretending that nothing had happened. ... Right. Okay. "I... thanks!" he said, managing a small smile, "Erm... but are you okay, mate?" Because Alec did notice the rubbing action he was doing on his right hand. He wasn't hurt, right?
Another go... Alec nodded. "Yeah, sure, let's see if you can block my stunning spell again, yeah?" And he'll go a little easier on the boy. Maybe. Couldn't have him getting hurt, yeah? Taking up his usual stance again, Alec pointed his wand over toward the younger Hufflepuff and cried, "Stupefy!"

Adi could tell he had totally confused Alec. But Adi was having fun with it. Poor Alec. He was obviously quite worried. "Stop worrying, Super Seeker!'' he told the older boy. "Everything is fine. I'm Thor, you know.'' Hehe. Well, he was okay except for his elbow but the pain was ebbing away.
"I think I banged my elbow on the way down but it's okay now.'' He flexed his arm to reassure Alec. Then he jumped up. Let's get this going! The first year braced himself, watching Alec closely.
"PROTEGO!'' This better work this time. And it did! Once again, the Stunning Spell was unable to harm him. Excellent! He flashed Alec a thumbs up.

Stop worrying? Oh Adi, if only it was that simple. And he was Thor. Alec let out a small chuckle and shook his head. Of course he was Thor, hammer and all. "I just... didn't want you to go back home broken. What would your parents say?" Stay away from Alec Summers, that's what. "But... I'm glad everything's okay." Nodnod.
... WHAT?!
Alec's eyes widened at Adi's words and he STARED at the boy's arm. Banged his elbow... didn't that really hurt? ... Sure. He was okay. Yeah. "I'm glad. But..." Pause. "You'll let me know as soon as it hurts, okay?" And Alec would take the boy to the Healer or... maybe Minnie? The girl was good at Healing spells, right? Or they could just get some ice for the elbow.
Later. Right now, though, there seemed to be some duelling going on. ... Or... protecting from spells! Alec GRINNED. "You did it!" Again. Which was GREAT! "Well done! I think... you're really getting the hang of this." Nodnod. He gave the guy a thumbs up in return. Proud Alec was proud.
... Alec also had questions. "So... do you think you want to continue or... go and get something to eat?"
In the thirty minute time span between declaring the duel and arriving at the arena, Fern had changed her outfit.
Obviously.
The 11-year-old had tied her hair back, keeping the stray pieces in line with a handful of glittery hair clips, and she was now wearing a pair of patched jeans and a stained T-shirt. While she waited for Cuthbert to arrive, she triple-knotted the laces on her scuffed-up, pink trainers. Under her breath, she went back and force between muttering insults about the Slytherin and practicing spell pronunciations.

Adi grinned and in a high pitched, feminine voice said, ''Never speak to or make contact with that boy again, Aditya Rehman. He's dangerous.'' Now he changed his voice into a gruff masculine voice. "Go tell that boy you want a re-match and show him who's boss, Adi!'' Adi now laughed and spoke in his own voice. "That's what they would say.'' He nodded at Alec's next statement. "I will.'' But he doubted there would be a problem. The pain was almost gone.
"Thank you! I'll need to practice it more but I guess it's okay enough for someone who's cast it for the first time. And your spell casting was awesome! Strong stunning spell that was.'' Nod. Oh food! Yes, Adi was hungry! "Food!'' he told Alec in an instant. "Pancakes, maybe?'' Grin.

"Right, warnings are out." Kinda made homework a bit more interesting if she was being honest.
And then there was no fight. Dora didn't even try. What a waste of a spell. This was getting them nowhere. She'd rather be improving her shields while they were here.
Alexa gave a small shrug. "Nah, I'm done with that. I wanna get to the shield work and 'sides, you need to get in some disarming too." They were both here doing the homework. It wouldn't be fair for Lex to have her here doing the one thing for the whole afternoon. Nope. Especially not when Dora could have chosen as older student and gotten to duel as a result. Shield would do now.
"I'm ready whenever you are."
Wand at ready. She knew there would be no warning. Her eyes remain on Dora the entire time. Waiting for the moment her shield would need to go up.
Yes, no warnings. Cause no warning made EVERYTHING more fun.
"I know how to disarm, but I could use practice on it nonverbally." She mused while continuing her path towards the dummies. Would it be fair to use a nonverbal on the girl when she was younger? Probably not. But then life wasn't fair.
Still she'd say it for at least the first go. With a flick of her wand in the Gryffindor's direction she spoke clearly. "Expelliarmus."

Non-verbally? That had to be just the best way to cast a hex or anything at anyone. She would have to invest some time into learning that next term. This term she was just trying to develop her shields as best she could. Couldn't have a good offense without good defense. It works...only if you're always striking first which usually wasn't the case with her. As much as she liked hexing, she never did it first without good reason.
"Okay." Came her simple reply. Being practiced on non-verbally. She'd have to be extra observant, watch for every movement, every twitch.
This being the case it surprized her to actually hear the spell being cast. Instinctively she raised her own wand. "Protego!" Narrowly deflecting the spell. Narrowly. Why was that always the case? If it wasn't narrowly, it wasn't well enough. Jeeeeeez. Only reflexes usually allowed her to deflect a spell. It came over time but that was expected when you were a target for every older student while in you first year. Protego was almost second nature, yet so mediocre in form. Were it a more powerful spell it wouldn't hold up at all.
"You gonna try non-verbally now?--I mean I don't want a warning but I was wondering--er....nevermind." She'd just watch and be attentive and stuff.

Alexa really should practice dueling more, Dora thought she'd at least be quicker since she played quidditch but that didn't really seem to be the case. It had to be a learned talent she supposed.
Shrugging her shoulders, eyebrows raising in feigned innocence, she kept walking at a leisurely pace. If she told her that would be a warning, right? And Dora didn't give warnings, she only got permission, and not that she had it... yes, she was casting nonverbally. She cast at the girl again, watching both the spell and her friend.

Sophie was really going to catch Caleb by surprise now. Up until this point, they'd really been taking turns, which was so Hufflepuff of them. Sophie was no Hufflepuff by any means, though, so why would she continue to take turns?
Heh.
While her first disarming spell of this turn was hurtling through the air toward Caleb, Sophie darted to the left to get him at a different angle. This way, when he tried to dodge the spell, he'd walk right into the next one. That was the hope at least.
When Sophie was good and in position, she flicked her wand toward Caleb. "Expelliarmus!" she said again.

Lex didn't trust that look one bit. It said there was more to it than Dora simply walking around and that leisurely pace was throwing her off as well. It just said there was something coming and she'd just suggested she go again with the non-verbals without actually suggesting it. The Gryffindor gripped her wand more firmly, not daring to take her eyes off the girl for even a second. The way she saw it, the only warning she'd get would be the sudden wand movement. That meant she'd have to be sharp. No getting distracted, no suddenly being thrown off even a little; no taking what Dora was doing at face value.
The moment her hand jerked upward, Lex's own flew up. Merlin knew how long she would have before the actual spell was cast. "Protego!" She blinked, finding the wand still in her hand. It worked...? Neat!
Lex looked to Dora, clearly pleased with herself but even more intrigued. "How do you cast silently??" The girl had cast. Lex felt her shield deflect something even if there was no other indication which made it SO MUCH MORE EPIC. "Took a bunch of practice, didn't it? But how do you get it in the first place?" Extra concentration? She could work on that. It'd be a little difficult given her waning attention span but she could force herself to focus if need bee.

Dora was really pleased to see that Alexa had been intent on her every move, and able to catch the wand movement quick enough to deflect her spell. See how much she improved without having a warning that a spell was coming her way? A lot. You're welcome Alexa.
"That," She flicked her wand lazily at the other girl, a small smirk playing on her lips. "Was so much better than everything else you've done in here." A shrug rolled off her shoulders. "Practice. And increased concentration and intent. I had to practice a lot before I could cast nonverbally, and I can only do the basics right now." But she was working on it, always working on all the things during the night when sleep didn't come to her.

The boy already had his wand out when he entered the arena, and he had bothered to take his bag back to his dorm before showing up. In fact he seemed remarkably light-weight with only his wand and a greyish hide cinch-bag on him. She was there and she had...Awwww! Gotten all spiffed-up too!
Quiet as his house mascot, Cutty snuck up behind wee Fern and reassured her that, "Feeling unsure, Quimbley?"
What a creeperdoodle!!!
