Default Ancient Runes Workshop

When you walk into the other door in the corridor, right next to the office, you find yourself facing a large room filled with different items, tables and big rocks fixed to the floor. If you look closely, you'll notice that the workshop is divided into different corners, a piece of parchment with information about each activity is hanged in each of those corners. There are different kind of tools and equipment lining the walls, crammed in the drawers or lying in baskets on the floor. If you're a fifth year or older, you'll probably be able to do all the spells needed in this workshop room. Those items mainly are for younger students, hence you'll find no real hammers, nails or even scissors. Professor Botros charmed them so that they were safe for the younger students. So if you try to prick your skin with a nail, it won't work and just give you a slight shock as a remainder to not harm yourself/someone else. But if you try to fixate the nail on wood, it'll be as sharp as a, well, nail. Anyways, professor Botros spends quite a lot of time in this room so he'll be around almost all the time just in case.

As well as the following activity, you're more than welcome to grab a chair and claim a spot on one of the tables and work on your ancient runes homework! Professor Botros might even be around and in the mood to help you out.

Claycraft:
A big counter in the middle of the room is set up for clay related activity. There are small wooden boxes full of colorful clay balls. Each box is closed by a wooden lid, the clay will dry and turn into solid mass after an hour or two when it's exposed to the air. You can use those to make your own set of Runes or just making runes and sticking them to a board, or even make talismans and etching into the clay a runic script for protection or good fortune or anything you want. There are much more to do with the clay, just remember it has to be something related to runes – or else you'll hurt professor Botros' feelings for not using his workshop for his favorite thing in the world.
Woodcraft:
The left northern corner has piles of wood planks on the counter, with screwdrivers and hammers hanging on the wall. Older students can use their wands to carve into the wood. Many shapes are available; circular, rectangular, sticks with a flat side, and small squares. You can change their sizes too with the right spell.

Number of salmons the fake bride devoured in the giants' feast.

Across the room from the other activities is a big desk with five chairs. On the wall above this desk is a very big board with one slightly difficult word search puzzle. Your job is to find the words listed under the puzzle and cross them over, once you finish a puzzle you can bring your work to the professor and he will have a nice something to say to you!

ooc: - Chatter is allowed here, and the purpose of this workshop is for your character to have fun as well as learn something new. If you want the professor's interference just put it in your post's title and I will reply as soon as I can. If it's an emergency, such as someone fainted or spotted a SNOGGING couple oh la la you can VM/PM me.
- The best way to post your answer is like the following:
Word (Column,Row,Direction).
Example:
Sif (9,1,DR) means --> Sif (9th column (from left), first row (from above), down and right)
- I recommend you don't post your answer here, instead you can PM me with your character's work. Just to give other people the chance to try this out on their own.

The good thing about Runes and everything Rune-related was that they were a really good distraction from things, and something you could properly focus on. West had been thinking about things lately, with Runes, and wondering how he could improve certain things with them. And even if it was allowed. He'd have to write to the ministry and check and all that even.

So since it was on his mind, West found himself in the Runes Workshop, where he'd spent countless hours in the previous terms with Dylan. Heh. Maybe he'd write a letter to him in Runic. That'd be fun.

For now though, the puzzle caught his eye, and West sat down with a copy of it and idly began working through it. Complete silence and all that.

Default Question

Wanting to get a head start on the year, Asher entered the workshop and began checking out the different areas. The clay interested him the most, so he headed over a took a seat.

"Now what should I make" he whispered while flipping through his book. "Yes, I'll make some runes that might help me with my quidditch skills and trying out for the team." Looking over the colors, he selected the yellow, green, and pink. He carefully began shaping the clay into little squares.

On the yellow square, he carved Kenaz, for creativity and dispelling any anxiety or fear he may have. For the green square, Asher carved Fehu. This would be for mobility and luck. Finally, on the pink square, he carved Wunjo, for success. He needed success for sure.

Once he finished, Asher wondered if he would be able to poke little holes in the top and string them to make a necklace. "Professor? When you are available, I have a question on my Runes. I think I made the correct ones. Would I be able to wear them?"

Eliza was quite glad the Ancient Runes workshop was open so early into the year. Before our first lesson even! She loved the word puzzles, so that was where she meant to start first.

Though on her entrance into the room, someone caught her eye. She couldn't really help it. In fact, she'd been tryingto help it for a while now. But, it seemed she had been taken off guard which meant her guard was down and all that, so when she saw the dark hair at the table, her footing went off-beat and she nearly stumbled. Just nearly though.

After what she hoped was a quick recovery, a fast head duck, and a flash of a behind-the-ear hair tuck, Eliza continued quickly past the Slytherin and muttered a quiet, "Hi West," as she went by.

He'd started chewing on his quill nib, and there was just a bit of ink on his lip. Was he over-thinking this? West had listed all the names of things, the horses, the possible gifts -there were six, two per God- and yet he could only find one of the horses and none of the names of the gifts in the puzzle. Maybe it wasn't their names, just what they actually were? He frowned at it a bit and kept looking, though he was distracted from that a moment later hearing his name. West looked up, still nibbling on the end of his quill.

"Oh. Hi 'liza." He answered, sounding distracted but smiling in greeting anyways. She was into Runes and stuff too? Oh wait yeah, she'd been on that list thing a couple terms back right? He was pretty sure. Well that was cool, West was all for an interest in all of this stuff, else he wouldn't be here himself.

He marked another one of the answers on his puzzle and idly sucked the excess ink off his lip, though it left behind a stain.

During her brief moment of light nerves, her auto-pilot mode had plopped her into a seat within earshot of the boy she'd just greeted. It was a better spot than she would've consciously picked for herself really. Near enough to chat and see, but far enough to not seem too...invasive. She could see so well in fact, that she was almost upset with her subconscious for setting her there. She almost thought she had imagined his return greeting, but blinked once or twice and realized she hadn't. Did he just say 'liza? she remarked to herself. Pretty sure he did. She didn't think anyone had ever called her that before, but maybe they had and she just hadn't noticed. But for whatever reason, she noticed now.

She also noticed the blot of dark ink on his lips and she quickly darted her eyes away from them. I should tell him though, shouldn't I? It seemed the decent thing to do. She doubted he'd even mind much, just going from how she'd seen him act in school, but then again...she'd want someone to tell her if she were in that spot. She smiled back at him, so that he wouldn't think she had ignored him, or that she'd gone deaf over the summer or something. Then she swallowed lightly, once, and found her voice. "You've eh...you've got just a little ink there, on your lip. From your quill," she explained in a soft even voice, low enough that the others would't hear, but loud enough that she didn't seem like a loon for whispering to him. After she'd said it though, she gave a mental eye-roll to her own words. Obviously the ink was from his quill, Eliza. Where else? Oi. She kept a smooth face though, despite her growing urge to furrow her brows and skew her mouth at herself.

"Oh yeah?" He licked his lip again and then nodded as if in confirmation. "I wondered what was so tangy." The ink, clearly. Tangy lips thanks to ink. Oh well. It'd come off eventually right? He examined the nib of his quill though, it being a self-inking one and all, just to make sure it wasn't leaking or anything, but nope, seemed alright to him.

"Are you doing the puzzle as well?" Or well, was she going to? Since she'd just arrived. He was right in the middle of it himself. And actually what he needed was a textbook to check on some of the answers that he wasn't finding in the puzzle. He knew what they were it was just finding the right word that Botros used essentially. And spelling, that too.

Just as she had expected, he wasn't too bothered about the ink thing. Which was good because she'dve felt a bit odd and uncomfortable had he thrown some kind of a fit or...had a big reaction. Mainly because it would've seemed really out of character, which would've caused her to be concerned and confused - two things she didn't like to feel simultaneously. The first, was all right, but the second? She didn't care for the second much. "Mhmm," she hummed in agreement. "Can't say I've ever tasted it, but tangy doesn't sound so bad," she joked with a small smirk on her face.

She nodded in response to his question and pulled her satchel onto her lap to retrieve her textbook and quill. "Yeah, I was just about to start on it," she replied easily. Maybe if she kept getting practice like this, she wouldn't be such a stumbling buffoon one day. Yeah sure, one day... she mused sarcastically in her head. She noticed he'd started on his puzzle already, judging by the marks on his parchment, and she surmised from the quill chewing that perhaps one of the clues was giving him some trouble. Though she doubted she'd know more than him, she opened her mouth anyway. "Are you very far with yours?" she asked pleasantly. Maybe we could work together on it? ....Go on. Say it. Say it? Maybe? No... Maybe. She busied herself by looking intently at the introduction page of her textbook, hoping maybe that way he couldn't look at her and read her thoughts or anything, which was really something she wouldn't put past his abilities. Once she felt more composed, she peaked a hazel eye at him, sidelong, to see what he had to say.

Thankful Professor Botros seemed happy to help him, Asher picked up his clay squares and headed to where he was sitting. Gently placing all three on his hand for the professor to see.

"On this first one, the yellow square, I carved Kenaz, for creativity and dispelling any anxiety or fear I may have."
He pointed to the next square. "On the green square, I carved Fehu. This would be for mobility and luck...I think." Moving his finger to the last square, he continued " Finally, on the pink square, I carved Wunjo, for success."

He had also made a small hole at the top of each square, just large enough to slip a silver chain through so he could put them around his neck. Glancing down at his pieces, then back at the professor, Asher anxiously awaited to hear if he had done his project correctly or not.

... what? West gave Eliza a slightly surprised look, his brain deciding to interpret that as her saying that she'd not tasted tangy lips before. Huh? Ohwait she meant the ink. Right. Right. Random. He chewed his lip and absently examined his progress on the puzzle so far, though he was listening to her as she spoke.

"Yeah, I'm nearly done I think, on account of I know all the possible answers to the clues, its just working out what they appear like in the puzzle." Paaaaaause. "I only found one of the horses in there." And he didn't know if they were both in there but the clue didn't specify just one of them. "And I haven't found any of the gifts. Got the rest though." That was the easy bit, the clues and all.
