Default Meet the Staff

As a parent or guardian, you've probably read numerous letters from your child about their triumphs and tribulations at Hogwarts. About how they somehow managed to blow up something they shouldn't have. About that perfect mark they received on an essay. About that not-so-perfect score on that one test. About how that one professor scares the snot out of them while this other professor inspires them. Whatever news you have heard from Hogwarts, your interest certainly has been tickled. Just WHO are these people educating your child?

Here is your chance to find out!

To the right of the dance floor, nestled in a corner just a hop, skip, and jump away from the refreshments, is a cozy but spacious area with many round tables covered in pink tablecloths and five boxy cushioned seats around them to match. On each table is a large plastic footed vase filled with multicolored foil-wrapped chocolate treats to add some sparkle to the area. Beside each vase is a silver name plaque which reads one of the thirteen subjects taught at Hogwarts. There are also tables set aside for the non-teaching staff as well.

So come on in, take a seat, and rub elbows with the some people that are helping shape your childrens' futures. They're surely as eager to meet you as you are to meet them.

Making his way over to his designated table, Airey straightened his bowtie and then sat down at one of the cushioned seats. Since suits were his casual, and this was a special fundraiser, the astronomer figured that he should dress up a bit - hence the tux.

Was awfully lonely over here though...maybe he should have brought some ice cream with him. Or Pebbles.

Folding his legs underneath the other to sit Indian style, he began to hum to himself to pass the time until some of his colleagues or some parents showed up. Students too, of course.

Default DID IT POST?! o.o
Dalliesa | Ab-Bot | Hogwarts Trojan War |

Having gladly escaped his granddaughter somewhere, Botros made his way to the corner where they were expected to be seated. His brand new cane held proudly in a way that showed the dragon head on top. With a big smile on his face, he waved to the professor of stars. "Professor Flamsteed. Lovely night, isn't it?" The indian style position earned the young man an envious look from the older one, such young knees!

Ab went to sit on the table next to his colleague's, putting his cane aside and fussing over the central piece, very cute. Oh and look! His name on the plaque, very lovely.

He as beginning to regret coming less and less. It had made Lexa bouncing happy--seriously, she was bouncing...he figured she'd be doing a lot of things but bouncing wasn't one of them. It was like she'd been dumped in a box of sugar--er...more sugar than usual. That reminded him, he needed to have a word with the Healer if he managed to run into her but as luck would have it, he would be running into the Astronomy Professor first.

"Good evening." He greeted with an easy smile as he settled into the available seat the two year old got busy reaching and stretching for everything her hands could reach. For now she wasn't causing much harm so he'd leave her to that. "I'm Michael Cambridge, Alexa's father." In case the name Cambridge didn't particularly stand out in the man's memory, though with a daughter like his, he found that impossible. "She talks quite a lot about your lessons." Not nearly as much as she did about DADA but far more than the other subjects.

And yet another Professor. Excellent! He gave this elderly man a pleasant smile as well before looking down at his name plate. Botros, huh? "Ancient Runes...Lex told me about your class...about smashing things with hammers." And having her try the same with the hammer at home. Thanks soooo much for that by the way. But that was in the past and the man probably didn't expect the lesson to be taken quite so literally by any of his students.

"Michael Cambridge." He offered, though he'd only just said his name for the Astronomy Professor and was sure he had heard. It would only have been rude not to. "I must say, after her first year I never thought I'd see her so enthused for the subject and the ...shoulder pats?" He had yet to understand that part. Shoulder pats? What even?

But he supposed he shouldn't question it. Apparently they helped her learn? He wasn't even sure.

Kathryn was out for Blood tonight! She had not told Oakey she would be coming to this Fundraiser, nor did she inform anyone else in the household, leaving Aegis, and the dog to fend for themselves. Since the Holiday season Oakey had informed her of some the interesting things the Staff had said, had done, and is currently letting him do. Calling Her Oakey a terrible Head Boy, Summer Assignments, and THE WHOMPING WILLOW!

Here was the first Gentleman! Easily spotted by Oakey's description of the Large Forehead he donned. She came over to his table. "Professor Flamsteed I assume?" She said sternly and giving him the evil eye she she leaned over the table stopping just before her back gave out. She laid one hand on her hip and tapped a foot impatiently at him. "Kathryn Gunter, Oakey's...well, his Grandmother I suppose." She did not give the man a chance to respond as she jerked her head to the older gentleman not sitting to far from him...

"Botros! Abraham, you look ravishing." Truly he did, even if he looked nothing like when he was younger, but then again neither did she. That was about the only good thing she was going to say to her old friend, she had a bone to pick with him.

Where was this Headmistress of there's too? She was not going to allow her to get away tonight.

"Perfect for some stargazing," he replied to the Ancient Runes professor with a smirk as he walked by. Old man river wasn't going to fall over out of these seats and break something, would he? Considering how there were no backs to them and all... He wasn't sure that Cece was on call tonight and Airey was horrible with Healing spells.

Airey watched as the elderly man sat down, holding his breath the entire time that something didn't happen when his attention was pulled away by another man's voice.

Oh! Miss Cambridge's father! This was rather exciting! He had been overly nervous about whose parent would show up here first - what if it was the parent of a student whose face he had forgotten or something?! - but this put the man's nerves at ease and he even stopped drumming his fingers on the table top.

And LOOK at that precious little thing the man had with him! Airey loved kids. There were so full of optimism and joy. Made him want some ice cream real bad...

Once he was done speaking with the man he would hurry over and grab some.

"Mr. Cambridge, fantastic to meet you," he grinned as he reached over for a handshake. Aw, she talked about his lessons often? That just made him puff out his chest a bit with pride. "She is very bright and has a lot of potential, your daughter," he replied honestly. "It just takes some time figuring out how to best....mold her enthusiasm."

Surely he understood what he meant by that.

Now happy as a comet with his ice cream, Airey found himself just blinking at the elderly woman - who was obviously flirting with his colleague. Ew, old people flirting. Ew.

"That's would be the correct assumption," he said with a nod. "Mr. Gunter's grandmother! Oh it's lovely to meet ..... ACHOO" and he sneezed right into his hand before extending it to her for a handshake. "Lovely to meet you. Mr. Gunter is a very spirited and creative young man. You must be very proud of him."

Another fundraiser. Sigh. Why wouldn't Hogwarts just stay down when it was kicked? Erik was starting to grow tired of the school's relentless spirit...not that he had anything to do with its current financial state nor interest in it in any regard...

But it went without saying that he would not be donating to the school this evening. It was enough that he was in attendance here, and in a tuxedo as well. The man led Ivy over to the staff seating and paused beside his name plate. They were in alphabetical order by subject, really...well, now they weren't.

Erik sat down with the History of Magic tag now suspiciously adjacent to the one for Charms. So sue him. The parents should be able to find their way around without labels on the tables. That was assuming either of the two guardians here were even interested in speaking to him, and from what he was overhearing, then he certainly hoped they weren't.

Well, this was going swimmingly. The only two professors that were free were ones that she no interest whatsoever in talking to. And she certainly wasn't going anywhere near Mr. Free-range-kids or Granny-gotta-have-it over there. So Roxanne conjured herself up a seat, parked her little man's stroller beside it and sat. Waiting for either another professor to show up or one of the other two to leave. After all, Sky seemed to be doing okay in her classes, so there was no urgent need for her to talk to a professor. There was, however, an urgent for her to entertain Ronan. Which what she did while she was waiting.

Very bright but also divides her attention way too much." The old man added the last bit in a lower tone, it was more of an afterthought really.

Oh. Botros quickly shook the man's hand with a bright smile, "Abraham Botros." It was the etiquette, even if his name was etched on the name plaque. "That only makes me more proud and content with what I'm doing." After all those years people tended to tell him to take his retirement offer and take a break, this made him feel he was right about staying. Shoulder pats though? The elderly gave the man a quizzical look before he laughed, "Shoulder pats. I can't believe it." It was a long hearty laugh. "Yes, yes. It's an old habit I took from the elders in our family. You give a shoulder pat when you're pleased with someone or want to encourage them." And obviously his kid got quite a lot. "I'm very surprised she's noticed. And eve better, she likes it." What a kooky kid.

.... he knew that tone. Botros turned, a bit started, and spotted the woman. "Oh Merlin have mercy." He grinned a wrinkly grin and got up as fast as his knees allowed him to, giving Geegee a friendly one-arm hug across the table. "You haven't aged a day." It was a cheeky thing to say but also flattering, Ab sat back down and patted the seat next to his. "It's been way too long! Sherman is here, too. By the buffet I guess." Hopefully someone would be there to help him reach the dishes.

Hecate rolled her eyes. Did she have to be at this shindig? Couldn't she just skip this? Why did she have to stay at these things? Wasn't it bad enough that she had to go to Alexander's charity events, but now she had her own? Would there be an auction now?

At first he thought he was imagining things. The man seemed genuinely pleased to meet him and wasn't rushing into some random tangent about his princess setting something on fire. Make no mistake, the man was fighting to NOT straight out start BEAMING. This was excellent! Better than excellent! A Professor that liked Alexa!

If only the Headmistress was here to hear this. The woman had been the one to tell him that his child was more disruptive than good.

Ah, yeah, he'd been expecting something along those lines. "I know what you mean, I hope it hasn't posed too much of a hindrance during the course of her studies?" It was a question he needed an answer to. He knew she could be a bit...er...high strung at times to say the very least. "And how's she with homework? Is she handing them in on time or at all?"

That had been a concern at her previous school. She was in the habit of telling herself that she had none. Once she believed this, there was no convincing her otherwise. "Do you suggest anything?"

He'd seen that man before, the one Lex had hounded him to vote for during the previous elections. How had he not known that he was now teaching here? No matter, he was which meant he'd need to have a word with him. Oh. History of Magic. This was made even more urgent.

"Good evening Mr. Vinteren." He extended a hand to him, carefully supporting the baby with his other. "I'm Michael Cambridge, Alexa's father; we met at that meet and greet down in Diagon Alley." Though now that he thought about it, that seemed ages ago. "I trust she hasn't been too pessimistic in your lessons?" At home she never failed to complain about it. "In your opinion, how would you say she's doing in that class?"

Was it just him or did this Professor seem to have some problem remembering his daughter? He let this slide, age did that to you afterall--oh! There he went! "Yes! Her--I'm sorry, loud?...." He leaned forward a bit and said in a lower voice. "When you say loud, it's not...disruptive!loud...right?" And this was when the man started hoping. The hammer smashing in and of itself sounded loud, was she any louder? "Can I ask what you mean when you say she divides her attention too much?" That was a new one.

"It's a pleasure meeting you." That was an afterthought, once he'd gotten that question out there. Ah and there was the mystery of the shoulder pats. A means of showing approval. It certainly explained why Alexa was so taken in by them. She was taken in by any form of approval. Something that wasn't necessarily a good thing. "Oh it's obvious she likes them! Quite so and are there any problems I should know about concerning her?"

Go ahead, he could take it--okay, any problem that wouldn't give him heart problems? They could start with those.

Potions? ...Yes...he thought it'd be good speaking to her as well. Once he had the opportunity he made his way over, settling the baby on his lap once more. "Good evening Professor..." he squinted at the name plate, "Lafay. I'm Michael Cambridge." He extended a hand in greeting to the woman. Did Lexa like potions? He didn't know, but she sure had fun blowing up the kitchen the past summer trying to brew some...some...he didn't even know.

"How're you doing?" He figured he'd ask, though he could tell she wasn't too pleased to be here. Now what did she have to say about his daughter? "I trust my daughter isn't blowing up cauldrons." Just a light joke, unless she really was in which case, he was sorry.

Seren had mixed emotions about the occasion. Or more so, the parent meetings...
On the one hand, it sounded like fun, and it was good to build relationships with the students' parents, and maintain communication with them throughout the school year... on the other hand, it was a lot of work, she had sore feet, and she was very much pregnant.

Running a finger along the edge of her name plaque, she waited, patiently, to be approached.

Finally! A professor that Mr. Free-range-kids hadn't got to first! How was he doing that, anyway? Though, it didn't look like he'd be talking to Professor Lafay for long, since she really didn't look like she wanted to be here. That was going to be a good watch. Anyway, back to what she was doing. Which was getting up and going over there. She carefully parked Ronan's stroller beside the Herbology table and settled herself down. "Professor Bentley, right? I'm Roxanne Carter, Sky's aunt?" But then again, she probably already knew all that, thanks to that ridiculous school rag. Still, was best to be polite. "I was just wondering, how well do you think Sky's doing in your class?" Important question was important. In fact, it meant the difference between a summer of her niece shadowing her around the department, or spending her last summer as a student with friends.

Seren beamed and straightened up in her seat as a parent/guardian approached her station.

She'd have stood up to greet the woman, but, owing to the large bump, it was easier said than done. "Yes, Ms Carter it's a pleasure to meet you," she nodded, extending a hand to shake... yes? no? yes?...

So, Sky.

Seren nodded briefly, then got to work. "Sky is a very mature, independent student... behaviorally there are no issues and she's certainly capable." However. "I do feel as though she's not yet reached her potential." It was true. There was always room for students to grow and blossom, and Sky could definitely improve in the area.
"Her participation is sound, but I'd like to see her apply herself in her work more, practice more, ask questions, answer questions and just to expand and elaborate on her learning." The sky was the limit, pun intended.

Herbology. He couldn't shake the feeling that there might have been something special about that subject that made him have to speak to the Professor.

Wait...

Airey paused for a moment to reflect on the two one and a some terms he had taught the man's daughter. Hindrance wasn't exactly the word he would use to describe what Miss Cambridge's short attention span and occasional failure to notice details, but he wasn't entirely sure which word best suited the situation either. "She struggled a bit last term with the long term project I assigned, but she learned from her mistakes and ended up receiving full marks and then some on it," he said with an unusually wide grin. It just took some trial and error on his part figuring out how best to relate to her. Each student was different and what worked for one may not work for the other. "She is actually almost always one of the first to turn hers in," he beamed. "She sometimes could pay more attention to detail and be more scientific in her terminology, but it is still above average work bordering on excellence."

Airey eyed the foil wrapped sweets on the table and decided to try one of them. They hadn't been made by Toddles, so they ought to be good. "Please, help yourself," he gestured towards them.

"I've found that your daughter is a case by case sort," he said with a small nod. "I've tried to take the approach of not using negatives with her when at all possible. Meaning that I will try and phrase things so that they sound positive even if I am really saying something negative. She does not take kindly to negativity when it comes to her and her abilities and responds poorly and that is why she tends to act out." MUCH like he had been as a young man really. "This does not always work, but I find that the probability of success and positive results increased 75% when I do so."

Statistics don't lie.

Kurumi had left Lewis to socialize with his former classmates while she headed over to the staff meet and greet area. She wasn't a parent yet, so she hoped that her presence here was allowed, but she could not pass up the opportunity to see her former Head of House again. Especially after hearing the news from her Gryffindor ickles. Passing by the other professors, some she knew and some she did not, Kurumi spotted the Herbology professor and her smile widened.

"Nice to see you again, professor," she smiled after offering the woman a small, but polite, bow. "And congratulations."

"The pleasure is mine, Oakey has spoken quite a bit about you. Although it's mostly about how little he spoke for a good 48 hours last term." She squeezed the Astronomy Profressor's hand even harder before her arthritis kicked in, she just couldn't hold a Beater bat like she used to.

It was a cheeky thing to say but also flattering, Ab sat back down and patted the seat next to his. "It's been way too long! Sherman is here, too. By the buffet I guess." Hopefully someone would be there to help him reach the dishes.
Look at him go, standing up and hubling over here just to give a sweet hug "and you look like you could keel over any minute." She joked of course and let off a quick cackle. "She took the seat beside him after he patted it. "Sherman is here? Brilliant, I'll have to give him a kick or two later." on to more serious matters though, she was not happy to hear what Oakey was doing around a certain tree with no adult supervision. "Ab, is this assignment you have the students doing supposed to be life threatening?" She raised an eyebrow at her old friend, expecting to get a suprised response, her Oakey always did leave out vital details whenever he told them about his days at Hogwarts.

Oh?

Michael couldn't help but raise an eyebrow at the man's statement. It shouldn't have suprized him though and a small smirk settled on his lips. Extra credit. There was something he never thought he'd here. Alexa was thorough, but only when it suited her to be and that was hardly ever when it came to work, school work to be precise. "I'm very pleased to hear that." No doubt his parents would be too. They were under the impression that everything would go downhill in her studies as a result of her Gryffindor sorting-wait stop, "One of the first? And we're still talking about Alexa?" Bliiiiiiiink. He learned something knew everyday. Handing in her homework ahead of others. Huh. He would have never guessed. The detail part though, he got that.

And now he wouldn't hide the beam. Above average work. It was nice to know she was taking her work seriously. "Above average, eh? I think that might have something to do with her keen interest in that subject. She had me looking for a chocolate frog wrapper in the sky when she got home last summer." Eyebrow raise right there. That wasn't a constellation that he knew about.

The sweets weren't merely to add to the ambiance! Lovely! He took one of the bigger pieces, unwrapped it and handed it to Jessa, she seemed happy enough so back to the Professor.

HE HAD NOTICED TOO!! At first he didn't know how to respond. Not many people got that about his daughter. To them, her behaviour warranted negativity but what they needed to understand was that that only made it worse. "I must say Professor, it's good to know that I'm not the only one who gets that and when it comes to Alexa I'm sure you'll find the statistical percentage a bit higher." She enjoyed praise and positive energy. If you wanted her to do something, tell her that she could.

"Good evening," Erik stood when someone came over to his table. He recognised the man of course, as he'd met him a few times before. Usually there was a hyper Gryffindor with him, but today she had been swapped for a toddler. Apparently it was the day for toddlers. Yes, Roxanne Carter and her mysterious baby had been noticed. Noticed and then deliberately ignored.

Erik shook Michael's hand and gestured for him to have a seat, if he would like one. "Good to see you again," he replied almost automatically. "No, Alexa has seemed nothing short ov enthusiastic in my class." How was she doing though? "She seems to be picking up on vhe concepts easily enough. However, I do not know if she is doing any reading outside ov class, which is generally recommended vhen studying history." It was shame the girl was so opposed to books. And to telling the truth....

Botros chuckled and nodded his head, motioning for the man to have a seat. "Yes, loud. And no, it wasn't a criticism, young kids can be so vibrant it's a bit loud for quiet people like myself." His voice tone was proof enough about his quiet nature, right? About the attention thing, hmm. Ab was careful how to put his next words, he didn't want the father to go hard on the little girl because of a misunderstanding. "In class, she sometimes seems to be interested way too much with everything and everyone. If that's an indication of anything, it's an indication of a sharp and vigilant mind but sometimes, and like all things when unbalanced, it makes it hard for her to focus on what's important." Nodnodnod. "But it's nothing to be worried about, she's just a kid now. Everything will fall into place in her head as she grows up." Ab had blind faith in his students, as the man would tell after spending more time with the elderly.

... problems? Hmm. Botros smiled as he continued, "Miss Cambridge is one of the bright kids in my class, not because she has the textbook memorized but because she's a great participant. However, she seems to be daring sometimes." He laughed, "Like changing her name plaque with a boy. Just little antics like that, I wouldn't go as far as calling it a problem." If they started restraining the kids' creativity (even in pranks and antics), they would do exactly the opposite of what educationalists are expected to do, i.e. limiting the great mind of the youth.

Aaah, always the naughty one. Botros laughed, however, at her first comment and gaped at her next one. Life-threatening? Was she serious? Did she know him at all? Oh wait, that could be sarcasm. "Merlin no. You know me, Kathryn. I would never-- wait, where did you hear that?" He paused thoughtfully. "It's Oakey, isn't it? What has he done now?" The Head Boy always had this out-of-the-box thinking pattern and let's face it, even if it was pretty entertaining at times, it was life-threatening other times. "I'm pretty sure he didn't break his desk last lesson." Right? Botros had some problems with his memory but crucial events wouldn't escape him.

He was hoping she would have been a Slytherin.

It was good she didn't have to wait long for the next parent, though she did make a mental note to slip away for a toilet break at her earliest convenience. If her legs would allow her to get up...

Smiling, Seren extended her hand to shake the gentleman's. "Good evening," she replied, "it's a pleasure to meet you, please have a seat." She offered the cutesy child a wave and a smile. If it had been smaller, she'd likely have thrown in a funny face as well. "Oh thank you, I can hardly wait," she added, a hand resting on the bump.

So... Alexa.

"Well, Alexa is a very, very, enthusiastic student," she started, stating the obvious. "Her first year, I'm sure you'll remember, she started off on the wrong foot, but she's seemed to settle in quite well since then." So behaviorally, not a problem anymore. Much.

"Alexa is a terrific student, she's an active member of my class room, she's Gryffindor's top points earner, she participates in extra curricular activities..." what more could she say about the girl? There really wasn't any criticism, nto now at least. "If she continues this behaviour and work ethic, she will be a very successful young witch." Truth. "But she does need to ensure her enthusiasm is productive and not destructive." The odd detention was fine, Merlin knew she'd had her fair share at school. But suspension or expulsion was another matter, and that was something to avoid.

Did he have any specific questions?

Seren had expected to see a lot of new faces, and some old faces too... but there was one she wasn't expecting at all. Kurumi Hollingberry?

"Kurumi?" she said, surprised, but pleased. "It's so good to see you, the dragons treating you alright?" she asked.

Her smile split into a big grin at Kurumi's congratulations, "Thank you." She'd have said something about having been busy in the prefects absence, but it didn't sound very appropriate in her head, and she was certain it would sound even less appropriate out loud.

Indeed, another fundraiser. Ivy probably didn't hate them as much as Erik did. She rather enjoyed dressing up and partying for about... fifteen minutes. Then she'd be ready to go, but she knew she couldn't. Eh. Oh well. At least she had Erik.

Wearing another of her fancy gowns, Ivy followed Erik to the staff table and smirked when he moved their nameplates out of order so they could sit by each other. Good move. Ivy sat down and placed her hands in her lap and waited to see if any parent would come and talk to her. Merlin help their children if they did.

Normally he would have been flustered and embarrassed by all this, not to mention flailing a little bit at the pain in his hand from the woman's firm grip, but he was somewhat awestruck by her handkerchief. It was VERY Gryffindor looking.

"Oh, yes, of course," he said after drawing his attention away from the fabric. "Terribly sorry about that."

Oh yes, that. Had Mr. Gunter also told his grandmother about how the Healer had been present as well? Or the reason for it? "I regret that such steps had to be taken with Mr. Gunter, he is one of my more creative students, but when he continued to show disrespect towards myself and the school's Healer, something needed to have been done." At least he hadn't transfigured the boy into a ferret or something. Or, well, not an animal with fur. Naked mole rat perhaps. "I also hope he told you the reason why it was done."

His eyes were back on the handkerchief once again. "That is a very lovely handkerchief you've got there." In case she didn't know.

Airey chuckled. "Yes, unless there is another Alexa Cambridge that happened to slip into our conversation without either of us knowing." He was unfamiliar with her previous terms at Hogwarts, besides the occasional warning he received in the staff room from his colleagues that is, but he tried to pay them no attention until he saw things first hand for himself.

"Oh, well I am very pleased to hear that," he grinned, puffing his chest out just a little bit with pride. "Ah, yes, that. It was the final in class project of the term. Students released the stars they had been caring for all term into the sky to make their own asterism. She wrote a very good myth about hers. One of my personal favorites actually and a copy of it is hanging outside my office."

Oh GOOD! He had been concerned that his methodology would somehow counteract what was being done in the home. It had been his case as a student at least. "I am just glad that I could help your daughter figure things out and help her see her potential."

Smiling, Kurumi took a seat and adjusted her kimono a bit so that nothing was tugging and then rested her hands gently on her lap. She remembered when she had first worn a kimono at Hogwarts. How she had stumbled around and nearly tripped over her own feet. Wasn't the case now though. Sort of. She still hadn't been able to travel by portkey very well and Lewis had had to scoop her up off the ground upon arrival.

"I've suffered some injury, but nothing I couldn't handle," she said with a sheepish pat on her shoulder. "I'm studying Experimental Breeding and Hybrids mostly this term, so it is a lot of lab work." Not too much work out in the field unless it was injecting eggs with DNA and nutrients when the embryo was at risk.

"I have something for you, professor. Father told me about how my mother had used one when she was pregnant with my brothers and me," she explained as she reached and and set what looked like a cupcake on the table. But that was just for decorative purposes. "We call it a haramaki and you wear it around your waist to keep warm." It was deceptively stretchy too, so she could wear it all the way up to her due date.

Michael took the seat when it was offered and smiled pleasantly. He made it into his seat without hearing anything particularly off. So far, he was willing to call this a success--

Wait what?

He blinked a few times. Don't get him wrong, it was good his daughter was enthusiastic toward the subject but...it sounded so...wrong? Was that it? "Enthusiam for History?" Pardon him for sounding so surprized but there wasn't a holiday that didn't see her complaining at least once about the subject and suddenly she was enthused? Likely story but where he could see the possibility of this in something like Anicent Runes with its blasted hammers, he knew his daughter didn't like to read so she couldn't have been getting many answers right. He knew Lex, she only liked things she was good at.

Oh and look at that, that was actually what they were on to discussing. He was almost 100% sure she was doing no outside reading. Only almost. She'd surprized him with her love of reading...unfortunately it extended only to books on hexing and the like. Sigh. It was a start. "I'm afraid that's a lost battle." Unless he put a bunch of jinxes into the text and told her it happened years ago. "Would you say you have any complaints otherwise?" That was always his least favourite question, some took it as an invitation, but it had to be asked especially after that owl about taking gems? Smirk, proud Slytherin father moment.

SPOILER!!: Botros! ^.^

His voice tone was proof enough about his quiet nature, right?

Michael settled in the seat and relaxed a bit. She was loud but it wasn't problematic loud. This was marked improvement! He watched for a second as Jessa reached over for another piece of candy. Her candy intake he would monitor. One candy addicted daughter was enough. Once the man explained the issue of her attention division he nodded. That sounded familiar, like she needed to be seeing a million things at any one time. "I definitely agree with you there." This wouldn't be the first her short attention span had gotten in the way. "At home I find that she has a hard time keeping up with her chores. She'll be cleaning her room but suddenly remember something else that needs doing. Needless to say, nothing gets done for a long time while she tries to multitask." And here she was having somewhat a similar problem at school--

EH?

"She...switched name plates with...a boy?" WHY? His daughter was hardly one for logic but at least half her mischief had solid reasoning behind it. That, he couldn't find the solid reasoning in. "Did you ever find out why?" Still, it was good to know that she wasn't running around the elderly man's classroom causing trouble. Oh believe him, he never expected her to be textbook smart. That actually required reading. "And I must ask. You say she participates, I know she doesn't read...how on earth does she answer questions in class?" It was a little puzzling to say the very least.

"The pleasure's all mine." He replied with a small nod as he sat. This time when Jessa reached for a piece of candy off the table he shove them out of her reach. She'd had enough sugar for today. "Do you know the gender yet?" Some women liked waiting to know these things.

Ah and there was that word again, enthusiastic. Jessa would go home having learned a new word by the time he got through with these Professors. There wasn't one that didn't think she wasn't 'enthusiastic' when it came to their subject. Honestly, how did she do? There were at least a dozen classes and they were trying to tell him she was like that for most of them? Sugar. It had to be the sugar. Oh. Improvement since her first year. This. Was. Expected. He'd made it abundantly clear that she wouldn't be the first Cambridge to be expelled from Hogwarts, good to know she took that seriously.

Merlin's beard!! Both Michael's eyebrows raised hearing that. "Top point earner? Correct me if I'm wrong but don't you actually have to do homework to get there????" Alexa? Top point earner? Just how many of those gems did she take from everyone else??? He had no doubt that she was hard working and bright but she typically didn't pay much attention to academics. Yes, he heard that she was active, they all said she was but...top? There was no way.

"I agree completely!" His daughter sometimes had...er...misplaced enthusiasm. He'd ask for her to be given some outlet but from what he was hearing she was already really active. "How would you describe her candy eating habits?" He asked for her to be banned last term but clearly that was short lived. Had she gotten worse?

Wearing another of her fancy gowns, Ivy followed Erik to the staff table and smirked when he moved their nameplates out of order so they could sit by each other. Good move. Ivy sat down and placed her hands in her lap and waited to see if any parent would come and talk to her. Merlin help their children if they did.
Another elected Governor was teaching here? He was beginning to think that he couldn't depend on Lexa to keep him updated on ALL the happenings of the school. It seemed she only told him what she thought was important.

Knox? OH!

"Good evening Professor." He greeted the woman. Once again the two year old was offering a wave, and a smile this time. Okay. "I'm Michael Cambridge, Alexa's father." He had to be a bit cautious with this one from what he'd heard. "You're the...um...kneazle wand handler, aren't you?" Did he get it right? She taught Charms, didn't she? Or was he confused? Reaching forward, he extended a hand for her to shake. "What can you tell me about Alexa?"

SPOILER!!: Airey ^^

Michael chuckled as well, realizing how ridiculous he must have sounded but could you blame him. He wasn't used to such civilized and GOOD reports where his daughter's school life was concerned. "Forgive me, it's just something I find surprizing--great to know, but still surprizing."

And that explained the candy reference. It didn't surprize him that hers had something to do with candy. "How creative." He remarked. "That's just the type of thing that she enjoys. She's more hands on than theoretical, but I'll guess you must have figured that much by now." He paused to help the baby with the candy wrapper in her hand. "Story? Do you think I could see a copy of it, send it home with her maybe?" With an imagination like hers, a story wouldn't have been difficult.

"Trust me, that makes the two of us. Your method will work. She hasn't stopped learning in your class so we're all on the right track." You could tell when she'd had enough of something and clearly that wasn't the case here.
