Entering the common room through the same corridor as the kitchens the kitchens, you will find a pile of large barrels stacked in the shadowy stone recess to your right. The second barrel from the bottom, middle of the second row, will open when tapped to the enunciation of 'Helga Hufflepuff'. (*Note: non-Hufflepuffs who tap the wrong barrel, or the incorrect number of times, will result in one of the lids bursting off and dousing the trespasser in vinegar)
Following a sloping, earthy passage inside the barrel, which will then travel upwards slightly, a cozy, round, low-ceilinged room comes into view. Welcome! Your common room is like your sanctuary. During your seven years here, your house will be like your family. The room is decorated in the cheerful house colors of yellow and black, enhanced by the use of highly polished honey-colored wood for the tables and then round doors which lead to the boys' and girls' dormitories.
Directly over the wooden mantelpiece, which is covered with carvings of decorative dancing badgers, is a portrait of Helga Hufflepuff, your house founder and one of the four Hogwarts founders, toasting her students with a tiny, two-handled golden cup. There are small, round windows level with the ground at the foot of the castle, showing a pleasant view of grass and flowers, occasionally people. As a result of the low windows, the room has a year-round sunny feel to it.
Returning (and new) Hufflepuffs might notice, however, that something seems amiss in the common room when they enter. It still has the familiar friendly portraits and sunny feel, as well as the decorative badgers, and yet it seems as though despite being close to the House Elves Headquarters, the elves have skimped in their holiday cleaning. The ashes in the fireplace haven't been cleared and replaced with fresh firewood, there's light layers of dust on the dancing badgers and photo frames and couches. And even the normally highly polished wooden tables seem dull, as well as chipping paint on the walls and a slight musty odor infiltrates your nostrils.

Even though this wasn't the way Ali planned to spend her free time, she was glad for time to converse and possibly make a new friend.
All cool subjects. "Mine are Divination, Astronomy, Care of Magical Creatures and Defense Against the Dark Arts. And lately History of Magic,'' Jory replied. Because Professor Vinteren was an awesome teacher and the first lesson had been very interesting. "Arithmancy is my worst.'' Which was disappointing because the subject was fascinating and not to mention their Head of House was the Arithmancy Professor.
"So, thought of you career options?'' She must have. She was in her fifth year, after all.

All that aside though she was on a mission. She had a head boy to find.
Looking around she didn't see Oakey anywhere. That was fine. She sat on one of the sofas and made herself comfy while she waited for the boy to show up. He had to come through the common room at some point. Hopefully it would be sooner than later though. She didn't know how long she could handle all this yellow.
YAAAAAAAAAWN
Good nap was good, Oakey came out of his Dorm Room and figured he head over to the study table to study some History of Magic for his NEWTs. Professor Vinteren seemed to only want them to find dead people so...yeah. He wasn't going to do that. Instead he'll study it properly.
He passed by the couch and nodded to the Healer...
...
Wait...
WHAT THE HELL? "H-Healer Tillstorm? Why are you in the Hufflepuff Common Room?" Shouldn't she be lounging in the Slytherin one?

Sitting there waiting for Oakey to finally make his way into the common room, Cece might have been seen sticking her hand under the cushions of the sofa. There had to be some loose coins in there somewhere. If she was going to get into the Slytherin common room later she was going to need to find at least one knut in here.
Oh look, there he was, the person she had been waiting for. "Hello Oakey. Good to see you're still alive," she said as she finished digging under the cushion. Drat! No knuts, just an empty candy wrapper. "I didn't realize I needed a reason to be here?" Okay, anyone who knew her at all knew her being here was way out of her comfort zone. But here she was, sitting in the puffer common room, digging in the sofa for loose coins.
Patting the cushion next to her she smiled at the boy. "Have a seat. Let's chat a bit."

"I haven't really weighed my career options yet. I need to set aside some time for that." She knew she was a bit behind in planning for her future which slightly disappointed her. "Have you decided on yours? Being in seventh year and all."

''You should get a move on that soon, then,'' Jory said with a grin. Didn't they need to take that decision before they chose OWL subjects? Anyway, she still had a bit of time left. "Well, I'm going to work in the Ministry of Magic. Sports department or Auror department, I should think.'' Because sports was something he loved very much. And Aurors sort of was like the same as cops or detectives in the Muggle world and it was something Jory always wanted to do.
"Sports Department or Auror Department? Those options aren't even similar in any way. How did you decide on those choices?" Aliza was becoming more intrigued with this new.....friend? She wasn't sure what to call him, or maybe she was moving too fast with that friendship card.

Jory grinned. "Well, see I like sports. Wizarding and Muggle alike,'' he said. "I'm Muggle born, by the way. So, sports is like one of my hobbies. And the Auror parts plays in because of my Dad. I don't know if you're familiar with the Muggle world but he's a detective.'' And just in case Aliza wasn't familiar with Muggle stuff, he further explained. "He solves crimes and catches bad guys.'' Aliza knew a bit about the muggle world from the stories that her mother would've shared with her, so she was vaguely familiar with muggle related things. Muggle sports and jobs were nothing new to her. "So are you on the Quidditch team? I don't follow the game much, so I have no idea who represents our House.

Okay so he was late in starting this particular piece of homework and he knew it. So... he was just going to be rushing around calculating and measuring and taking notes, yeah? No big deal.
Alec closed the door leading to the boy's dorm before walking around the common room, his mind on one thing and one thing in particular: the Golden Ratio. This was... harder than he thought it would be. And he had thought that it would be very hard to begin with. Because this was Arithmancy, you know. The subject was just hard in the first place.
Sigh. Where was Pao Mancini when you needed him?
The boy continued to walk around, a journal, quill and ruler in his hands. He was determined to find things that were linked to that Phi thing Hadley had been talking about. And apparently, these things were everywhere! ... If that was the case, why was it taking him so long to find an example of one? Was he just... not that much of a Hufflepuff?
... Nah!
OH HEY. Pause. Alec stood back and tilted his head, his grey-blue eyes on a particular couch. So... this could be linked to phi, yeah? Especially if that top couch bit divided by that bottom seat bit equalled to... 1.618, right? Yeah?Okay, measuring time!
He set his journal and quill down on the table and moved over, ruler in hand. He moved the ruler around until the backrest part of the couch was measured. He scribbled the number down in his journal before moving on to measure the seating part. The numbers would fit into the ratio, right? Yeah? Because he didn't have time to waste with this homework assignment.
Yeah... why didn't he start this one earlier?
Shaking his head, he scribbled down the second number before doing some calculations. ... Well... will you look at that?

"Nah, I'm not,'' the Puffer said. "But that guy over there is our Seeker.'' He indicated to Alec who had just entered the common room and was looking rather puzzled about something. Jory decided he was probably doing his Arithmancy homework as he was looking at the couch with interest. "Alec's probably the best Seeker around.''

What? What was she even doing in here? Is the Healer scrounging for coins. Is he witnessing something he shouldn't be? Tillstorm didn't seem the sort. "Ma'am if you need coins you could have borrowed some from the jar I set up outside. I really don't mind if Professors and Staff borrow from it." Flamsteed had expressed his disinterest in it though. "O-of course I'm alive, isn't it a good thing I haven't been to see you yet?" Oakey took the seat beside her somewhat hesitantly. "Would you even be there if I did get hurt. Part-Time Healer isn't the best title to hold at Hogwarts". There was a hint of sincerity in that last comment. He did kind-of-sort-of miss not having the Healer around. The only one who knew this was his Grandmother.
Anyone can join in. This might be the only time you ever see the healer in here.

Taking her hand out of the couch cushion, Healer Tillstorm dropped the empty candy wrapper on the table in front of her. "Oh um, thank you Oakey. It seems I've run out of coins today. I don't even have one on me to get into the Slytherin common room later." Yes, it was true. Even the staff had to pay the price to get around the school. Of course, she could always track down her little cousins and get back some of the coins she gave them.
"I'm not going to bite you," she said as he sat down. "I've been a little worried about you. I mean, it's great that you haven't needed to see me, it's just, this is the first time in the 5 years I've been here that I haven't seen you for some reason or another." Seriously, Oakey coming to see her had turned into an annual expectation. If no one at all ever came to the hospital wing, she was sure he would be there. So of course she was a bit concerned when she hadn't seen him.
Oh right. Her part time status was the reason he hadn't come to see her. "Well, if I'm not there then you would just have to see Professor Hadley or Headmistress Truebridge." She was pretty sure students hadn't been going to other staff members for illness or injury though. At least she hadn't heard talk of that happening. "Also, you could always send me an owl if you needed to see me. I'm not against making appointments to see students." Especially ones she had become fond of. Not that she was fond of any students, especially a Hufflepuff student.

Erm. The healer? The healer who Ella was sure disliked Hufflepuffs was here. Here in the Hufflepuff common room? That was just...erm...well...yeah.
The blonde's green eyes flicked to Oakey and gave him a questioning look before walking over and joining them. "Hello Healer Tillstorm, Hey Oakey."What were they doing again? Oh and did either of them have ice cream?
Brodie walked into the common room. He looked around and looked around, no one he knew... Not that he talked to anyone besides Taylor really... He sighed and sat down on one of the couches pulling his sketch book out and started to work on his newest sketch of him and Taylor.
Laura was sat eating loads of ice-cream when she suddenly realised that the Healer was in the room. "Hey HEALER TILLSTORM!" Laura shouted as she looked at the Healer. "Do you want some ice-cream." Laura smiled, see she was awesome when she wanted to be, saying that the Healer hadn't seen her since she and Zoe had gotten detention last term, which was good Laura thought. "I have plenty." Laura smiled as she then went back to doing the studying she was doing before she had noticed Tillstorm.

It must feel demeaning to be forced to dig into couches for knuts and sickles. Oakey had yet to do this, but still seeing a Hogwarts Staff, a former Slytherin going through cushions. "The offer is ther Ma'am. It open for anyone in the school to use, if they don't have the coin." He was feeling a bit of a cold sweat just sitting and conversing with the Healer like it was nothing. Oakey turned his head to see Laura stuffing her face full of Ice Cream. Why was everyone so damn fond of that Machine in the kitchen. It has brought nothing but evil to this school. Maybe he could convince the Head Mistress to sell it, and use the money to rehire Healer Tillstorm in a full-time position. "Laura don't talk with your mouth full." "I always find the muggle world and muggle artifacts quite interesting. When I was a little girl, I used to take some of mum's things apart to see what's inside." She giggled. "Mum would always be upset, but dad always put them back together. I think I forgot to mention Muggle Studies on my preferred subject list." She was slightly embarassed. How could she have forgotten to mention that?
Aliza took notice of the boy that Jory had pointed out to her. The best seeker around, hm? "Well it's nice to know that Hufflepuff got the best seeker. I heard we won the last match by a landslide. Unfortunately I couldn't make it out to see it."

So Oakey was giving out money to anyone in the school that needed it? Interesting. "Thank you again Oakey. I'll put it back in your jar when I come back to work." It may only be one knut but she was not taking money from a student and not giving it back.
Someone sure was nervous wasn't he. "Of course you wouldn't intentionally get hurt." Unless he wanted to feel her wrath for being stupid. What was with all the sleepy eyed puffers today? First Oakey comes in rubbing his eyes and now their quidditch captain was yawning. Maybe they should start sleeping at night instead of staying up doing who knows what. "Hello Ella. Please, have a seat. I'm sure Oakey won't mind you joining us." Putting her hands to her ears she turned towards the unmistakable voice of that annoying, trouble making puff Laura. "There's no need to shout Laura. And no, I do not want any ice cream." What was it with all the ice cream eating this term? Cece really didn't see the fascination with the stuff. "You can just stay over there with that disgusting stuff." That's right. Laura was one puff that was not invited to join them. No matter how nice Cece was being right now, she just didn't have it in her to be nice to Laura.

Had Oakey's voice just cracked? O__o Ella raised her eyebrows slightly but gave him a small smile anyway. She wasn't going to ask questions and besides, he seemed relieved to see her. "Hey Oakey."
And then Healer Tillstorm was inviting her to sit and she was inclined to accept considering she wasn't sure people said 'no' to Healer Tillstorm. "Thank you, Ma'am." The blonde then ploppled down next to Oakey and looked from him back to the healer, wondering what she was meant to do now. She didn't really know what one talked about to Healer Tillstorm seeing as she spent a lot of time trying not to go see the woman. She was a bit scary, Tillstorm was. Brilliant, but scary.
"We miss having you around the school all the time, you know." She started, wondering if it was just her that felt that way. It was a bit nerve wracking to think that if she did get seriously hurt, the person best at taking care of hurt people might not be around.
Anyway, and then Laura and Oakey were at it again and Ella gave Laura a pleading look. She could just try and get along with him for right now, yeah? They had guests.
Asher skipped into the common room, whistling a little tune. He'd been having a wonderful day and wanted nothing more than to flop down on something soft, get comfy, and flip through his new Quidditch magazine. Much to his surprise, there was an older lady in the room. "Um, shall I leave you?" He glanced at the other students, "Or, is it alright if I sit over here?"
Mom says I have no sense of direction, so I packed my bags and right.
Tillstorm was being generous now too!? Offering to repay him for coins if she used them. "Thank you, but you really don't have to contribute to the jar if you take from it. it's sort of just my charity for the School."
This was getting more and more awkward and Ella's presence wasn't helping she seemed just as perplexed and confused at the Healer being here. "Sorry. I didn't mean to say I would intentionally harm myself to get hurt. Ella here would have my head for it." Visiting the Healer seemed a bit odd without reason, but she made the offer, "I-uh I'll come by more often to see if you're in then. I was actually thinking of learning a few simple Healing tricks, before i graduated. Without you around after I leave, I'll need to fend for myself when I travel." Oakey had settled on this decision just after the Goblins stole the School's EVERYTHING IMPORTANT, like Prefect bathroom soaps. He was not going to apply to a place that allowed Goblins to reposess their things here without good reason.
A smirk lite up on his face when Tillstorm snapped at Laura. the girl deserved it. Oake yeven retorted to the brat-of-a-girl. "I'm giving you a fair warning Laura. Slow down before you give yourself brain freeze." Seriously deciding not to listen to him was getting on his nerves. He already believed he wasn't living up to Treyen's potential of being a Head Boy. He didn't need Laura to Hammer the nails into his coffin.
What was with all this sudden undieing love for Ice Cream...should he have added it to his note he gave to the Professors? Oh the Note, he needed to hand one to the Healer!
"Hey there." Oakey smiled to the young kid reading the Quidditch magazine. "Uh- what article are you reading about in that issue?" It looked like a recent issue, and that sparked his interest.
Laura saw the look that Ella was giving her, okay just for her she wouldn't start on Oakey, even though he was the one that broke her heart for no reason what so ever, she had no idea why he was being so mean to her lately and was it really fair that everyone seemed to always blame her for everything, she wasn't that bad once you got to know her, she was sure Ella would say the same.
Laura started to slow down on the ice-cream. "Thanks Oakey that advice was actually good." Laura gave him a smile, she was wondering why he didn't seem to like her that much and she had a feeling that the Healer didn't like her because of what she did.
Laura looked at the Healer and spoke from where she was. "Yeah Healer Tillstorm, were all sorry that your part-time." Laura was actually using the right title so that the Healer knew she was being serious, you had no idea how much you missed someone until they went.
And with that Laura turned around and started to read her books she had 4 years of studying to make up, she really wanted to do well and then maybe people wouldn't think she was so bad, when in fact okay she missed behaved a bit but she did actually care about people when it was needed.
"Hey there." Oakey smiled to the young kid reading the Quidditch magazine. "Uh- what article are you reading about in that issue?" It looked like a recent issue, and that sparked his interest.
His eyes lit up. "It's about broom repair. How you can modify and repair your broom in flight." Asher flipped to the cover to show the older boy a picture of a young wizard making a repair while flying around a Quidditch Pitch. "Quite fascinating." Even though the boy hadn't asked, Asher continued on. "I hope one day I can be the equipment manager for the house team. Wouldn't that be exciting?"

Was that in insult hidden within a compliment? "My advice is always good. You all just need to hear me out more often." You all was directed at Laura, but it was pretty much everyone ever in the school right now too.

Oakey raised an eyebrow in interest of the article that the Hufflepuff boy was reading. "In flight? That'd be a real useful skill to have in the middle of a Quidditch match. It sounds more like for simple broom travel though."
He smiled when the kid showed him the picture, of the boy on a quidditch pitch. "I'm sure if Ella here is okay with it, I always figured the brooms we used were School property, and less of the Houses." he turned and looked over at the Hufflepuff Captain, she would know more on this matter than he would.
