Ancient Runes Lesson II The classroom was exactly the way it always had been; desks and chairs laid out in parallel rows, the small dais upon which the professor's big desk sat with a rememberall on it that's been obviously pushed to the side. The desks were freshly clean with a couple pieces of wood and a strange tool placed on top of each one of them. The professor would be standing at the door leaning slightly on his cane, waiting for the students to arrive and greeting them from the corridor. Once the students entered the classroom, they would find that the rectangular blackboard fixed to the wall over the dais had a message written on it:
|
Ancient Runes, everyone... with an awesome Professor at that. Even if he was old, Botros was awesome. Okay? No arguments were appreciated. So yeah anyway... it was the next class she had to attend so Kat made her way there with her bag charmed with the undetectable extension charm they learnt last year. It was helpful the whole term especially since they were being charged whenever they entered the common room. All her books and materials for the day were packed inside her tiny bag. Yeah yeah yeah. Back to the Ancient Runes topic. Kat was sort of surprised when she entered the room and saw Botros. "Good day, Professor," she greeted. And when Kat approached a seat, she stared at the piece of wood and that thing on top of the desk. It looked like broken doorknob with a long, sharp thingy attached to it. Yep, more staring. Then she took a seat and waited for everyone else to arrive. Was she the first one? Uhm yeah, guess so. And that notice on the board. Don't touch the doorknob thingy and the piece of wood. Okay then. |
Minerva headed into the Ancient Runes class. She couldn't believe term was winding down and classes were coming to a close. As she made her way in she noticed that she was one of the first to arrive. Well that wasn't to much of a surprise. Giving a huge smile to Professor Botros, "Hello Professor, hope you are well today." Turning she noticed Kat and smiled, "Hey Kat, umm great match. I know we really didn't get to congratulate you guys properly with everything that happened, so I figured I'd say it now. " She gave her fellow sixth year another smile before she found her usual seat in the front. Pulling out her parchment and quill and of course her book, since this class still stumped her at times, she made sure she was ready. |
There were SO many reasons that Ascanius was not a fan of this class. For one, it was like EVERY class taught by a male Professor-boring. Another reason was that it was SO much studying about things that were inconsistent. Numbers. Jeez, that stuff never changed. But ANYWAY. He'd torture through this class. Only 'cause, well, he had to or whatever. So yeah, he walked into the class, gave the Professor a nod. Yeah, that was ALL he was getting from Ascanius. It was better then most other classes taught by guys...they got glares. And then he sat down. Pfft. What was with the doorknobs? |
Such a walk to the fifth-floor. But the snake headed there with a skip to her walk. The exercising for DADA was paying off as you see. Finally, something to do that'd benefit the students directly. As she marched up the corridor she spotted the Professor, if only she hadn't been thinking about having a serious talk with the man about the singing thing for the assignment. But then again what's the point since she'd already done it. Sigh. Picking up her pace she stood by the door and smiled,"Good day, Professor, how're you?" Hanging up in that old body of yours? Peering inside the classroom she saw that she was among the first to arrive. That allows her to pick a seat for her liking. The blond offered a smile to her classmates then slid into a chair. What was this weird-looking tool? Hmmm...Looks dangerous. She wasn't going to touch it for sure no need for the warning on board. That probably was for curious hungry minds. |
So Ancient Runes really wasn't one of Nessie's favorite subjects, but because it was her last year she decided to attend. It wouldn't kill her to get some more knowledge, not that she needed it but it was good to exercise the mind and her feet too, by walking to class. After taking a stroll all the way up to the fifth floor, the Hufflepuff made her way towards the Ancient Runes classroom and entered keeping her strolling pace like before. She was in no rush, she knew she was on time and why rush if she was. You rush you crush, she agreed with that. "Morning, Professor." She looked at the old man and his cane. If she was that old she knew she'd never want to spend her time teaching here for a living. But hey everyone was different. Seeeat. Nessie took one and looked at the strange object on her desk. Were they going to carve or something? Hmmmm? |
So time for Ancient Runes again. Penelope was neither excited nor dreading it. It was just...a class. That was it. Just another one she had to get through. "Hi Professor," she greeted him when she entered, offering a polite smile before taking a seat by Ascanius. It wasn't every class that she actually got to sit by him so no harm in trying to once in awhile, especially since she was so early and the class hadn't filled up at all yet. He got a bright smile and then she eyed the stuff on her desk. No touching just eyeing. Was was that thing anyway? |
Alexa skipped her way over to the Ancient Runes classroom. She was SO ready for this lesson. After spending so long bonding with a tree and carving runes she felt like she knew everything in the text--which really wasn't true seeing as she couldn't even remember half of what she read but WHATEVER. "HELLO PROFESSOR!!" She chirped, BEAMing up at him as she found him by the door. "Hope you're well and all that!!--Oh hey, what's that?" Her attention was now fixed on the neat toys on the desks. She walked to the desk that had her name on it then sat (completely missing the note up by the dais). This looked neat. She poked at it but when nothing happened she rested her head on her desk and tried getting a side look. There was more poking after that. Did this thing even do anything? It didn't seem that way. Finally she sat back in her seat and just STARED at it as if she was trying to will it to do something. |
Wondering what they would be doing and if it would be fun, Asher entered the room in a good mood. He had been working on his term project and was almost complete, so he knew he would have time to spend on any further homework he received for the class. Heading towards his desk, Asher noticed the strange looking tool and the wood pieces. Following the instructions on the board, he made sure not to touch them. Taking his seat, he remembered he hadn't greeted the professor upon his entry. "Good day, Professor" he shouted across the room. |
Ancient Runes! Alec was EXCITED for this class. So much so that he had come as early as he could. No more running down the corridor to greet Botros before he was considered late. NOPE. It was actually a nice change for once; especially since his bag wasn't going to go flying and knock someone round the head. And speaking of Botros, THERE HE WAS! RIGHT by the door! "Hello Professor!" he chirped -- CHIRPED -- up at the man, a grin spread across his face, "Hope you're okay!" He gave the man a two finger salute before heading over towards the desk that had his name on it. The same old desk with its usual-- Ohhhhh? He tilted his head as he stared down at the weird object on his desk. "Erm..." he started, intending to look up at the Professor but instead, his attention was drawn towards the blackboard and the writing on there instead. Don't play with the tools and the wood? Okay. Shrugging, he sat down in his seat and looked up again. |
Kace made his way to Ancient Runes. He remembered liking the class the first time he came here. Why not try it again. Plus the professor was pretty cool. He was nice and was a great teacher. He remembered seeing him at the Seminar before. As he made his way to his desk, he noticed the Professor left a sign. He could not touch the tools or wood pieces. Hmmmm...*shrugs* He wouldn't have touched them anyways. He sat down and noticed the Professor, Kace smiled and said, "Good day Professor!" with a wave. "Nice toys you got there!" Then he got out his notebook to attempt to look studious. He heard Alexa's voice and was wondering what they were gonna do with the toys today. He was starring at them and observing them carefully. |
Beam. Beam. Beam. Beezus Castell was in a good mood. Yep, yep. She had a wonderful feeling about Hmmmm. I wonder what we'll be working on today..... she thought. While she waited, she allowed her mind to wander freely for the meantime. |
Nigel walked into Ancient Runes and immediately saw the weird tool on the desks. It was the last Ancient Runes class of the term. So it had to be interesting. Right? "Hello, Professor. Nice Cane!" Nigel did like a good walking stick. But canes were awesome to. Nigel walked to an empty seat, sat down, and waited. |

Botros smiled at the Prefect, the first one to arrive to class, and he moved just a bit to let her pass through the door. "Hello dear, good morning." Quote:
He nodded to the Hufflepuff, his smile matching hers. "I'm alright thank you." He would be better if there were no dementor news lately. Ugh. Poor kids. It was basically why he waited for them at the door instead of inside the classroom. Quote:
The kid!boy got a nod and a small smile back. He was one of the dozers in his class, but Ab liked the kid all the same. It wasn't the kids' fault this subject was intense for their distracted minds, Botros had the life experience to realize this. Quote:
He smiled widely at the Snake girl. "I'm alright, thank you. Hope you had something to eat before class." He watched her walk inside before moving his gaze back to the corridor. Quote:
"Good morning." He greeted the Head Girl back and smiled at her. It was probably her last class of Runes. Aw. Quote:
Ab nodded at the polite Gryffindor, "Hello dear." He moved to the side to allow her to pass through the door. Quote:
.... that was unnecessarily loud. Botros blinked and nodded, "Hello miss Cambridge." And because he knew her, his eyes followed her into the classroom and until she was seated and poking. He frowned. "It's the last class this term, miss Cambridge, I wouldn't like to take points from Gryffindor at this time. Please pay attention to what is written on the blackboard and stop playing with the tool." Tsk tsk tsk, her father was going to want to hear about this. Mhmmm. Quote:
Botros nodded back at the Hufflepuff, "Good day, son." He didn't have to shout across the room though, the professor was waiting for the students at the door. Quote:
"Hello, mister Summer." The kid got the same blink Cambridge got a moment ago. Why all the excitement this early in the morning? Kids. "I'm alright, thank you." Again, the dementors news irked him so he was not his usual "great". Quote:
Aww. Botros couldn't help but grin at the little kid and wave back to him, "Hello, son. They're not toys, they're tools and they have a name." Which was what their lesson was about today. Quote:
He smiled at the Prefect and nodded, "Good morning, dear." Good thing she was in a good mood. Quote:
Botros chuckled and looked down at his cane, "Thank you." Ravenclaws were kooky sometimes. |
I had feels Oakey wasn't sure how to make the entrance into this class feel good. He stood at the entrance there a while and just starred into the classroom, he was completely unaware that the Professor was standing right next to him at the Doorway. Maybe he could avoid the class, not have to even bother with the emotions once the class ended. Which seemed pointless because when Oakey turned his head he saw Professor Botros directly to his side. "Hello Professor." This was his last Hogwarts Ancient Runes class...ever. Maybe he could get a time turner and experience the class over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over ...etc. again. He moved to his assigned desk and looked down at the weird tool sitting on it. It looked almost like a little mushroom on a stick. He ignored the pieces of wood. They'd probably just be carving runes in them. |
Noticing that time was escaping him, Theo rushed to the Ancient Runes classroom and quickly took a seat near the back. See? Just slid on in there, nothing to see, yada-yaaaa... He eyed the strange thing on his desk and almost touched it... until he saw the sign on the board saying not to touch it. Phew, close one, then. "Hi, Professor." He said very quietly. |
Hm. You'd think with one of his favorite lessons, Wade would be one of the first to arrive. Was there something else on his mind?.. Nah, he had just overnapped a little, he wanted to feel refreshed and not sleepy during the lesson. He briskly walked towards his last Ancient Runes class for the term, oh goodie, he wasn't too late. "Hello, Professor." Wade greeted brightly as he walked in. Hmm, those tools. Well, he'll wait to hear what they were about then, as he took his seat. |
Tobias cheerfully made his way to the Ancient Runes class. He LIKED this professor, that dude was totally awesome. Ancient Runes wasn't bad either; Tobias had assumed it would be boring, 'cause like... 'ancient'... but he'd soon discovered that it could be interesting. Technically EVERYTHING could be interesting... it just needed the right teacher. Speaking of, Tobias grinned at the professor as he entered the room and gave him a BEAM and a WAVE. "Hi sir! Nice to see you today!" The Hufflepuff gave his FRIENDLIEST MOST CUTEST SMILE and then went to take a seat near the front of the class. OOOOOOH. THINGS. This was gonna be goooood. Toby gave the stuff on his desk a very gently prod with his finger. Not playing... just poking. Because he couldn't resist. |
Anya smiled brightly as she entered the classroom. "Hello Professor." she greeted happily. She then entered the classroom and looked around. She then took a random seat. And looked at the thing that was on her desk. Didn't the Professor know telling her not to touch things made her want to more? |
Sarah walked into class. The last Ancient runes class of this year. Thankfully. The assignment she had was draining to her. It took all her energy to entertain the plausibility of the myths. Imagine talking to a tree? Who ever thought of this practice had issues. "Hello professor" she said. OOH.. Lookie.. that was a interesting tool on her desk. Wait, she was not meant to touch it. So she would not touch it of course as she would behave. She 'touched' it with her eyes, which meant there was no physical contact. She was just examining it |
Quote:
Botros put a hand on Gunter's shoulder as the Head Boy passed him, "Hello, son." He didn't look so happy. Quote:
He smiled and nodded to the Slytherin boy. "Hello, mister Kinsely." Merlin were those kids growing up so fast! Quote:
"Good morning." Ab smiled at Mr. Potter and nodded. The Hufflepuff was usually extraordinary in his lessons, it was good he didn't miss this one. Quote:
Aw. Botros smiled a wide wrinkly one for the kid and patted his shoulder as he passed by him. "Hello to you. Nice to see you up and excited early in the morning." Give it time, though, it'll all fade away. Quote:
The Gryffindor girl got a nod, "Hello." Oh he knew her now! Wasn't she the sister to that young Board of Governors member? Mhmm. Interesting. Quote:
The last Gryffindor to enter the class got a smile and a nod, too, before Botros closed the door behind her and walked up to his desk but continued to stand up. "Good day again to all of you." He hoped they weren't distracted or troubled much by those recent--uhh-- incidents. "In our first lesson this term, we discussed the Runic alphabets, their development and usage as a whole group of letters. Then we learned how to carve the shape of runes preserving their magical energy, using our wands." Quick review, and he was smart enough not to surprise them with a quiz this early in the morning. "Today we'll focus on Runic scripts a little more." Not on the alphabets they were written with. The actual scripts. "And please stop proding the tools on your desks. They may not be harmful to your skin, but that doesn't mean it's okay to poke them." He didn't have ten eyes to keep on every one of them. ooc: - Class has started, you may not RP your character walking in class late unless you're willing to lose some points. ;) xxx- It's okay if you make some answers up as long as they're reasonable. xxx- Class will resume in another 12-18 hrs. |
Quote:
What did he know about Runic scripts? That was an AWESOME question since it gave the freedom to say whatever he wanted and... well where did he even START? The most simple answers were often the best, and also the most relevant to the TOOL on their desks. "All runic scripts are made up of straight lines, because they used to be carved and its a lot easier to carve a straight line in wood or stone than it is a curve unless you want to make a bunch of mistakes." Any idea how hard it was to keep his answer just to that? West put his hand down. |
What did she know about runes? Not a lot actually. But she did know some. She raised her hand. "Most commonly they were chiseled into rock. But they could also be written on parchment and also inscribed on coins or metal." In the later years anyway. Or... maybe those were reproductions were put on metal for collectors? Meh. Details. She didn't really care too much about it. She figured they'd be just talking about carvings in stone. |
Dylan was here. Totally was the whole time, too. He'd just been reflecting on recent events...and where his life would be heading now that he was practically graduated already. Last term and all. Finished with his Quidditch career...at Hogwarts. Should he have reconsidered playing professionally? Would teams want him? He didn't know... ...but soon class had started...and with difficulty, the Captain turned his full attention towards Professor Botros. He'd miss this man the most...as far as Professors went. Totally idolized him... "Professor, I've read somewhere they were used for healing back in the day...in rituals and things of that nature. Priestesses could read from them and work the rune's combined magic. I've also seen some etched in a vertical format, too..."...or had he been mistaken on that front? Dylan was almost positive he hadn't been... |
Oh? Lex leaned away from the tool when there was mention of point loss. She turned instead to the Professor and gave him an apologetic smile. "Sorry about that Professor." And what note was he talking abou-- OHHHHHHH. Heh. She was gonna pretend she knew that was there the whole time. Yup. So on to the question. Alexa raised her hand while her brain tried to come up with an answer. "Some of them were written on things like bones and some were chiseled into clay blocks...or something like that...I think..." Really, how was she meant to remember what was written in a textbook? Merlin knew she hardly ever read that thing--except the odd occasion where she would need an answer. Kinda like now... She probably should have looked into the text. Ah well, it was too late for that now. |
