Seeing as most of the students were done with their letter exchanging, and no one else needed his help, Botros positioned himself in front of the blackboard and knocked on it a few times to let everyone quiet down their voices. "Alright everyone, put down your quills and Burins. It's time to try and decipher those letters. Who would like to share first?" He glanced at the Hufflepuff Captain who seemed to recieve quite a lot, then to the Slytherin Captain who obviously had a letter for a bunch of people and couldn't deliver it to EVERYONE at once. "Mr. Montmorency, first?" The professor ushered him to come forward. "I believe you cannot deliver your message in any better way. Do you mind sharing this message with the rest of the class?" Writing it on board would be good. |
SPOILER!!: Professor! Dylan was still trying to pull it together...having just had an epic FEELS attack. Yes, he knew what feels were. THIS WAS HIS LAST RUNES LESSON...Why had he just realized such a thing? How Lame-o was he? ...but then Professor Botros was asking him to come up to the board and of course, he wouldn't have said no. Not to this particular professor. "Oh, of course, sir." Grabbing one of the many pieces of parchment, he began making his way towards the board. Professor wanted him to write out his message. That was cool. Dylan wasn't ashamed of how much he loved his teammates. In fact, he was totally proud of it. Picking up a piece of chalk, he began drawing the runes, glancing down at his parchment every now and again to remind himself just in case. No, he did not suffer from stage fright in the classroom. He played Quidditch. It explained all the things. "Done, professor." SPOILER!!: Blackboard! |
Cassia was speechless. Her letter was correct. Like she didn't make any mistake. Really? Was he sure? It was possible that old men overlooked or didn't notice things. Totally normal. Though, come to think of it, The Professor spent his LONG life doing this so he probably read in runes like he read in English. Maybe even better. Oh, well. Maybe she'd just accept the fact that her letter was correct. The snake sat slid back into her seat and waited for others to finish. Then she watched as the captain scribbled his letter on the board. Though it wasn't right to call both hers and his a letter. Hers was like a signature. She still was proud of it. Staring up at the runes, Cassia reached for her text book and started comparing them against the ones on the board. She was going to try and decipher one word and preferably the shortest one. It took her a while but she came up with something. Raising her hand, she spoke, "Last word in the first line is team?" She half-answered, half-asked. Was that correct. "First rune is Tiewaz which presents the letter 'T'. Second rune is Ehwaz, the letter 'E'. Third one is Ansuz as in the letter 'A'," She took a breath squinting at the board then continued, "Last one is Mannaz, which's the letter 'M'," According to her analysis. Was she right? Don't laugh if she wasn't, she'd get mean. |
Tobias staaaaaaaared up at the board after the Slytherin captain dude went up there. He'd been looking at runs for long enough that he now properly recognised a lot of the runess and could translate them easily... now to try it with a full word. He took the first word that caught his eye (the last word on the second line) and worked on that, trying it from memory. Hmmm... that first one was a 'hard C'... he knew because it looked the same, and the second was a 'U' which he remembered from his own carving. Then a 'short I', again easy because it looked like an 'I'. Hmmm... CUI... that could be cuisine? But WHY would he write cuisine? Clearly he had to work on it some more. Tobias had NO idea what the next one was, but it was another 'short I' next... then an obvious 'T' (again, he'd had a couple of 'T's himself... plus the arrow was cool and he remembered it for that). Then Tobias remembered the question that the captain had asked earlier, about what a 'Q' would be. And the response had been a 'K'... which was the same as the 'hard C'. THAT worked with most of the runes Toby recognised, including the ones at the end of the word. It also made logical sense because hellOOOOOO SLYTHERIN CAPTAIN. The Hufflepuff flung his hand into the air. "Professor, the last word on the second line is 'quidditch'," he said excitedly. Quiiiiiddiiiiiitch. While he thought of it, Tobias started writing on a new piece of parchment how he came to that conclusion from the way the word was written in runes, which he also copied down. RUNES. |
Post 5 Kace was still finishing his carving when he heard the Professor move on. He still needed to give his letter to Cassia. He was determined to finish this by the end of the class. SPOILER!!: Kace's Parchment! This is all he had to finish. So he did the chanting for Tiewaz and Othala like he did before. He saw them glowing and knew he new that chant really well. Then he had a new letter and chant. It was B for Berkana. He did the chant "berkano berkano berkano bu ba bi be bo b e e e e e r r r r r (burk bark birk berk bork) ob eb ib ab ub b e e e e e r r r r r." And then he carved it. It looked pretty good! Then he did the Ehwaz chant and that seemed like a no brainer. Then he did the rest of his letter and being very diligent and he was finished with it! He would give it to Cassia after class.... Then he heard the Professor move on with another activity. He noticed one dude from the Slytherin house was putting up his letter and then he had NO idea what he put it. He listened to other's interpretations and agreed with them. |
Oh! Oh, she knew this! Hand up. It made it even more interesting that they were reading Dylan's letter.. to... his Quidditch team? They could write it to a whole team? Why hadn't she thought of that? Her team could definitely use some encouragement before that last game.. but.. eh, well. Whatever. That was a really long letter, no way she'd write that much. "Professor, the third line says 'family never forget that'. Dylan wrote the runes Fehu, Ansuz, Mannaz, Isa, Laguz, Jera, Nauthiz, Ehwaz, Wunjo, Ehwaz, Raidho, Fehu, Othala, Raidho, Gebo, Ehwaz, Teiwaz, Thurisaz, Ansuz, and Teiwaz." She listed the runes, too, just in case he wanted those. Because she could see them and stuff. Sitting in the front got you a good view. |
The Professor wanted them deciphering Dylan's note? But but but...he wrote and EPISTLE!! Surely the Professor didn't think they had strong enough attention spans to sit through decoding all that. It was impossible!! Er...well...for her it was impossible but the others seemed to be managing just fine. That might have been because they weren't trying to get the whole thing. Okay, she could do that. Lex scanned the board for the easiest words she could make out. Ah hah! There we go! "Professor, those two first words in the second line are 'to' and 'my' because you have teiwaz and othala right there then you have mannaz and jera next." So now she knew his note was meant for his something and Alice said that next word was Quidditch...Cassia said the word after is team so.... "To my Quidditch Team, that's what that bit's saying. He's writing it to his quidditch team." That was all she got though and she didn't much think she wanted to go deciphering anymore. It was meant for his team, it held no interest to her. What would she do with a message like that other than forget it in the next few minutes that followed. Exactly, nothing. |
Botros had listened to every one of them, nodding his head and writing the interpretation underneath the message. "Yes, Very good. It says," offering the Captain a smile but going on, "'The Slytherin Quidditch Team. To my Quidditch family. Never forget that you are infinite. And champions. Don't forget that either. Love Dylan.'" The old man clapped twice before patting the seventh year's shoulder and ushering him back to his seat. "I'm sure every captain feels the need to write an encouraging letter to their teams now." Chuckling Botros turned to the rest of the class. "Okay, we are done for today. Your homework will be interpreting the messages you got in class and hand them over to me. Don't forget your Gandrs." He turned to the blackboard and wrote them a message on the board from him. |
