Text Cut: Kace Botros watched the Hufflepuff kid walk up to him. One of the youngest ones today. He pulled the boy closer to him from his shoulders and gently looked at his work. "That's very good, but you need to pay attention to the silent letters. For example, your name would not be Kace in runes, it would be Kac. Kenaz, Ansuz and Sowilo." He corrected that for the boy. Text Cut: Alice Ambition, he liked it. Specially in runes. And of girls related to his best buddy. Botros placed a hand on her shoulder and laughed heartily, "We're going to have a cup of tea at your grandfather's and talk about this lengthily if your head keeps popping out those questions." He wasn't complaining though! Summer was coming soon, anyways, and Lucia liked him enough to make him food. Yes. Maybe no Egypt this summer. Text Cut: To-BY-us Ab nodded at the little kid and ushered him to come over to his desk along with the others. "Yes, of course." Merlin those little ones getting excited over their work, this was very refreshing to him. Fixing his glasses on his nose-bridge again, the professor gave the boy's name a long look before smiling and nodding. "Very good, Tobias." He handed the boy his parchment back and patted his shoulder. "You can carve it. You seem to have a good hand too." For real. |
Post 3 To-BY-us Laila that was mean XD Quote:
Carving her whole name, first and last, was going to take ages, but Alice was okay with it, because Runes was her favorite. It just made sense. She wanted to write a longer message, too, but she'd already decided on something short to not strain her newfound rune writing abilities. Because she had those now. It made sense. It did. Text Cut: Notes Message done! Ta-daaah. |
Post #5 and Candy Girl! ^_^ Okay, so... it was time to deliver this. He was going to go straight for that and secretly hope that the runes translation was correct. And that Candy Girl could understand what he had written down on there. With the note and the piece of wood clutched in his hands, Alec headed over towards the Gryffindor girl, a nervous grin spread across his face. This was going to be correct, yeah? And she didn't mind him disturbing her and Cassia? Or that this would be one of the few times in which he wasn't hugging her at some point. ... Maybe he needed to stop doing that. Hugging people. Randomly. ... Nah! "Hey Candy Girl!" he said, still grinning, "Erm... I made you something! Hope you like it!" He placed the note and the piece of wood down on her desk, gave her another grin and a wave before heading back towards his own desk. He could just... |

Post 3 SPOILER!!: Le Prof! OOOOOHHH he forgot to account for the silent letters. That made a lot of sense. He was SO confused. But once the professor explained it, he felt better. He made mistakes but he was a first year after all. He looked at what the professor did and he didn't need the E in his name. So it was just KAC and that meant in runes....Kenaz, Ansuz and Sowilo. Then he corrected Cassia. It was just a simple S. Now he wanted him to do it on his own? I guess he could. He looked up and saw a gentle smile on his face. Kace smiled back and said "Thank you Professor i shall do it now." and then went to work. Scribble....Scribble...Scribble.... SPOILER!!: Parchment! He wondered if he did it right? It looked better than before that is for sure. Now all he had to do was to write out the letter for Cassia and give it to her. He could do this. He did miss Marigold in this class though.... |
Post 3. Pulling out some green ink...because you couldn't write to Slytherins without using GREEN ink...Dylan pulled a fresh sheet of parchment and set to work. Considering he'd already written out the runes he'd need to write, it wasn't going to take that long at all...and really, the real challenge was going to be that piece of wood. LOTS of things needed to be done to it...and he wanted to get started as soon as he could. Perfectionist Dylan was a perfectionist. That wasn't his fault, though. He kept at it, though...redipping his quill every now and again... Scribble......scribble......scribble......scribble ...... ALL THE SCRIBBLING. SPOILER!!: The letter! A few minutes later and the letter was complete...Dylan bent down and blew on it...so the ink would dry and not smudge all over the parchment. He hated when that happened. Bloody nuisance... He'd be duplicating it, too...So, moving it to the side, he stared down at the wood. Lots of runes to carve...So many... |
Post 4 Notes being done meant Alice had to get to carving her name. Which was.. going to take a while. Her full name, okay? Burin out, even though she'd have preferred doing this with her wand using Intaglio. The tool was still acceptable, though, and when doing it manually, the runes actually did seem to be smoother. So maybe this'd work out. "Ansuz Ansuz Ansuz.. aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw.. aw aw aw aw aw aw... s s s s s s.. aw aw aw aw aw aw.. aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw." She felt rather ridiculous, but carving quietly allowed Alice to maintain most of her dignity. "Ansuz Ansuz Ansuz.. aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw.. aw aw aw aw aw aw... s s s s s s.. aw aw aw aw aw aw.. aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw." Laguz next? "Laguz Laguz Laguz... l l l l l l l l l.. lu la li ke lo.. lug lag lig leg log... ul al il el ol.. lo le li la lu.. l l l a a a g g g u u u.. l l l l l l l l l.." This chant was much more difficult than the one for Ansuz, in her opinion, but she chanted slowly and carved quickly, so by the time she finished the Galdr song, the rune was carved. Isa was up. "Isa Isa Isa.. i i i i i i i i i.... i i i i i i s s s s s s... s s s s s s i i i i i i.. i i i i i i i i i." It was shorter, which meant Alice had to say it more than once to make it last. "Isa Isa Isa.. i i i i i i i i i.... i i i i i i s s s s s s... s s s s s s i i i i i i.. i i i i i i i i i. Isa Isa Isa.. i i i i i i i i i.... i i i i i i s s s s s s... s s s s s s i i i i i i.. i i i i i i i i i." And that was only three fourths of her first name. Merlin, this was going to take a while. Text Cut: Notes |
Post 4. So...starting at the top....Dylan was going to carve 'The Slytherin Quidditch team"...but in phonetic form. So...that'd be...Th Slitherin Quiditch Team. They were going to be small, too. So, it wouldn't take nearly as long to carve each individual rune. Right...starting with Thurisaz...Getting everything into position, he picked the burin back up and focused, beginning the chant..."...thurisaz thurisaz thurisaz...th th th th th th th th th..." Straight line...done...The vowel and letter sounds grew stronger coming from his lips..."...thur thar thur ther thor...thu tha thu the tho..." One part of the sideways 'V' done...Now to finish strong! "...th th th th th th th th th..." There. 'The' completed. Moving onto 'Slytherin'...which was really 'Slitherin'...'Isa' instead of 'Jera'. AHEM. Sowilo started this on off...and Dylan quickly went through the chant,..."...sowilo sowilo sowilo...s s s s s s s s s...s s s o o o l l l...su sa si se so.....(sul sal sil sel sol)..us as is es os....si se su sa su...s s s s s s s s s..." Laguz and Isa came next, and then another Thurisaz rune...and then Ehwaz and Raidho..."...raidho raidho raidho.....r r r r r r r r r...ru ra ri re ro...rudh radh ridh redh rodh....(rut rat rit ret rot)...or er ir ar ur....r r r r r r r r r..."...and then another Isa and Nauthiz... Merlin, this was a lot of work...but it was going to totally be worth it. His team would appreciate. Dylan knew these things... "..kenaz kenaz kenaz..ku ka ki ke ko...kun kan kin ken kon...ok ek ik ak uk...kaunnnnnnnnn..." |
Post 5 "Sowilo Sowilo Sowilo.. s s s s s s s s s..... s s s o o o l l l... su sa si se so.. sul sal sil sel sol... us as is es os.. si se su sa su... s s s s s s s s s.." Alice sounded like a hissing snake. Was this how it was supposed to go? "Sowilo Sowilo Sowilo.. s s s s s s s s s..... s s s o o o l l l... su sa si se so.. sul sal sil sel sol... us as is es os.. si se su sa su... s s s s s s s s s." That was her whole first name. Fishr. Fishr was next. It took a while for Alice to find Fehu's chant in the textbook, but she finally did. "Fehu Fehu Fehu.. f f f f f f f f f.. fu fa fi fe fo... of ef if af uf.... f f f f f f f f f." That one was quick to carve. "Isa Isa Isa.. i i i i i i i i i.... i i i i i i s s s s s s... s s s s s s i i i i i i.. i i i i i i i i i... Isa Isa Isa.. i i i i i i i i i.... i i i i i i s s s s s s... s s s s s s i i i i i i.. i i i i i i i i i." Sowilo again, then, she kind of rememebered that one. "Sowilo Sowilo Sowilo.. s s s s s s s s s..... s s s o o o l l l... su sa si se so.. sul sal sil sel sol... us as is es os.. si se su sa su... s s s s s s s s s.. Sowilo Sowilo Sowilo.. s s s s s s s s s..... s s s o o o l l l... su sa si se so.. sul sal sil sel sol... us as is es os.. si se su sa su... s s s s s s s s s." Two more runes. This was so strenuous. "Hagalaz Hagalaz Hagalaz... h h h h h h h h h.. hu ha hi he ho... hug hag hig heg hog... hul hal hil hel hol... oh eh ih ah uh... h h h h h h h h h.." Her hand was beginning to hurt, Burin, could we hurry it up? "Hagalaz Hagalaz Hagalaz... h h h h h h h h h.. hu ha hi he ho... hug hag hig heg hog... hul hal hil hel hol... oh eh ih ah uh... h h h h h h h h h.." Alice tried to flip to the Raidho Galdr song with her free hand, keeping a tight grip on the Burin and sighing in relief when she found the page. Finally. "Raidho Raidho Raidho... r r r r r r r r r... ru ra ri re ro.. rudh radh ridh redh rodh.. rut rat rit ret rot.... or er ir ar ur.. r r r r r r r r r.." All done! And every single rune in her name was glowing. How'd that look? |
practicing.. He wasn't sure where his focus was today, probably same place it was all term, but Ethan knew he really needed to buckle down and get going with his rune carving.. or whatever it was. He pushed his journal full of notes and doodles aside and pulled on his gloves, ready to start practicing on the block of wood. He grabbed the burin by the knobby handle and the smaller piece of wood. Which rune did he want to carve in the block of wood? Ethan looked down at his desk and the inscribed rune he had put there last lesson. Might be a good one to inscribe in the piece of wood as well. So Sowilo, it was.. He started chanting as he began carving on the block of wood. "Sowilo sowilo sowilo s s s s s s s s s s s s o o o l l l su sa si se so us as is es os si se su sa su s s s s s s s s s" It was getting there, but not quite finished.. and certainly not glowing yet. Let's try again, shall we? "Sowilo sowilo sowilo s s s s s s s s s s s s o o o l l l su sa si se so us as is es os si se su sa su s s s s s s s s s" And there was the glow.. not to mention the rune he just finished carving. Success! That was enough practice, right? Now on to the next step.. Ethan turned his eyes on to Botros to hear the next set of instructions before continuing. |
SPOILER!!: Hair Boy!! ^^ Lex was about to go on complaining to Cassia about her needing to be more open to her best friend copying when HAIR BOY SHOWED UP!!! Eeeeeep!!! Lex mimicked his grin with a grin of her own, it was kinda weird but this time her grin was wider. Usually his was the wider of the two grins no matter how far she pulled her cheeks!! She would have thought something was wrong but it didn't seem that way because he was handing her a parchment and wood. For her????? Though it wasn't possible her grin DID get wider. "OH WOW! THANKS HAIR BOY!" BEEEEAAAAM. "Hey what does it mea--" But he was already gone back to his and looking around at something...? She didn't know...Lex looked down at it. She could read this, yup, just uh...had to get her textbook first. Nodnodnod |
Post 5. Lots of chanting being done this way...Urun...Isa...Dagaz...Another Isa..."...isa isa isa...i i i i i i i i i...i i i i i i s s s s s s....i i i i i i i i i...." With the amount of runes he was putting on this thing, the Slytherin Captain hoped to get an awesome grade. He wanted Runes to be one of his best subjects...for no reason in particular. He just really loved it. Never missed a lesson..."tiwaz tiwaz tiwaz...t i i i i i r r r r r...tu ta ti te ter tor...tur tar tir ter tor...ot et it at ut...T i i i i i r r r r r..."...and then Hagalaz. Dylan enjoyed that rune. It was fun to say...and that counted for stuff. "...hagalaz hagalaz hagalaz....h h h h h h h h h...hu ha hi he ho...hug hag hig heg hog...(hul hal hil hel hol)....oh eh ih ah uh....h h h h h h h h h...." He was moving through these runes quickly, he knew. Seeker-speed! Yep, he was totally using his quidditch advantages in the classroom...and he wasn't ashamed or sorry about it. The chants were being said...and he was using speed and precision to carve at the runes with the burin. Yep... 'Team' was left and he flew through those...his excitement growing to actually start on the individual names of his teammates. Yes, Dylan was insane...Everyone could think so. He didn't mind one bit..."...mannaz mannaz mannaz...m m m a a a a a a n n n...mu ma mi me mo...mun man min men mon...um am im em om...mon men min man mun...m m m a a a a a a n n n...m m m m m m m m m..." YES. Done with that bit. His name came first, OF COURSE. As Captain and stuff...naturally Dylan would include himself. They were a TEAM like that...So, starting with Dagaz..."...dagaz dagaz dagaz...dh dh dh dh dh dh dh dh dh...d d d a a a g g g a a a z z z...du da di de do...dh dh dh dh dh dh dh dh dh...odh edh idh adh udh...od ed ud ad ud...d d d a a a g g g a a a z z z..."...and then Isa, because the 'Y' sounded like an 'I'...So..."...isa isa isa...i i i i i i i i i...i i i i i i s s s s s s...i i i i i i i i i...."...and then did Laguz, Ansuz, and Nauthiz...all in turn... Montmorency....Mannaz was first....quickly followed by Othala..."..othala othal othal...o o o o o o o o o...o o o o o o...othul othal othil othel othol...othol othel othil othal othul...o o o o o o..."...Nauthiz, again...Tiwaz....Another Mannaz, Othala...and then Raidho! Dylan paused to yawn. Lots of talking on his part. Were others hoping he'd shut up soon? Well, that was too bad if they were. HMPH. Rounding out his own name with a Ehwaz, Nauthiz, Sowilo, and Jera. There...One down. Ten more to go... |
Eliza hadn't really been sure of what the tool was, so she'd just sat quietly and let the other students answer. It was clear to her that it was a tool used for carving, but that was about all she had known. She watched and waited for the next instruction. Upon hearing they should grab a pair of gloves, she did just that. Not really sure why they would be needing them, she arched one brow curiously at the pair. Are we in some sort of danger of...cutting ourselves? Doubtful. Botros wouldn't give us a task that might put us in danger, would he? Nah.... After all, it was only wood carving. Really. Basically. So, they were supposed to carve any rune they wanted with the burin onto the first piece of wood. That didn't sound so hard. She decided to go with the the rune, Jera. Just because she felt like it. A little comfort and harmony never did anyone any harm, did it? She carved what looked like two open and opposing arrows onto her piece of wood and chanted the right sounds for the rune. "jera jera jera j j j e e e r r r a a a j j j j j j j j j ju ja ji je jo jur jar jir jer jor j j j e e e r r r a a a" They were strange sounds to make, that much was certain, but she knew she needed to say them if her rune was going to glow, so she said them again as she carved. "jera jera jera j j j e e e r r r a a a j j j j j j j j j ju ja ji je jo jur jar jir jer jor j j j e e e r r r a a a" She watched her piece of wood, now carved, and saw it begin to dimly glow. She hadn't concentrated a whole lot really...and hadn't felt a huge commitment to why she had chosen the rune, so maybe that was why. But it was good enough for right now, and would probably suffice for the lesson, so she moved on with the class. SPOILER!!: Instructions for carving |
Post 6 Finally done with her carving, Alice began finishing up her notes. The next step was converting her recipient's name into runes, yeah? Because she wanted to address her letter, too, seeing as it gave her more opportunities to write the alphabet. Fun! Plus, she had the time to do so, and it didn't involve more chanting, so there were no issues for her. Dipping her quill into her inkwell and beginning to draw the runes from her notes onto the parchment, she bit her lip in concentration and tried to make it look perfect. Was it perfect yet? A little blob of ink mopped up there.. an extra line there.. done! Now, where was the professor? |
Post 6. Dylan, being prepared, had taken notes on each of his players names...and the runes that would be associated and used in each one. Hadn't anyone else thought of this? The Slytherin hoped not as he was aiming for total originality here... Glancing at his notes... SPOILER!!: Dylan's Ancient Runes Notebook! Right...So, Kenaz, first for Miss Katrina...Dylan moved down the burin down to the line below his, wanting to give the names a layered effect. No to the right, the next to the left...and so on. It'd look pretty awesome once he was finished, anyway... "..kenaz kenaz kenaz..ku ka ki ke ko...kun kan kin ken kon...ok ek ik ak uk...kaunnnnnnnnn..." Kenaz was a funny one, considering it looked like a 'c'...Super easy to carve, too...and he was quickly moving on to Ansuz, another rather funny one. "...ansuz ansuz ansuz....aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw....aw aw aw aw aw aw s s s s s s....aw aw aw aw aw aw....aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw...."....and then Tiwaz, Raidho, Isa, Nauthiz, and ANOTHER Ansuz... Hudson was plain in phonetics...To him, anyway...So, Hagalaz, first...and then Othala, Dagaz, Sowilo....Othala....and then ANOTHER Nauthiz..."....naudhiz naudhiz naudhiz....n n n n n n n n n....nu na nu ne no.....nudh nadh hudh nedh niodh....(nut nat nit net not)....un an in en on....n n n n n n n n n...." There. Done with hers...Now onto West Odessa....West Odesa...No doubling of the letters and all that...Dylan also noticed that many of his teammates names were straight up as far as phonetics went. He could sound their letters out without getting too mixed up. 'W'...Wunjo..."...wunjo wunjo wunjo...wu wa wi we wo....wun wan win wen won....wo we wi wa wu....w w w u u u n n n...."...Ehwaz...Sowilo...Tiwaz....So much chanting. Dylan double-checked his work thus far and sighed...ALMOST done...Wouldn't be too much more now...Not with the runes being smaller, anyway..."..othala othal othal...o o o o o o o o o...o o o o o o...othul othal othil othel othol...othol othel othil othal othul...o o o o o o..."...and then Dagaz, Ehwaz, Sowilo, and rounding that out with Ansuz... Theodore Kinsley....Theodor Kinsley....Done. Ascanius Stark....Done. When he got to Peyton, Dylan paused to take a breather. Siiiiiiiiigh. Not much more...was the mantra of the moment...Not much more.... |
Post 7 + Botrooos Carefully folding the scrap of parchment with her runes transcribed on it, Alice attached it to the wood carving as neatly as she could. Did that look pretty? She hoped so, she'd spent the whole class time on it. That was true effort. The fifth year fussed over her wood and parchment a little more before hopping out of her seat and wandering off in search of the professor, circling the room a couple of times before she found him. "Here you go, Mister Ab," Alice said quietly, tugging on his sleeve and handing him her project, purposely not calling him by his professor name. Because he said that was for when he was teaching, but he was her friend right now, so Mister Ab it was. She grinned at him real big before heading back to her seat. It would have been a good time to smile more, except smiling was just.. effort. And Alice still felt a little sad inside. Moping sounded like a better option. Text Cut: Notes + Graphics |

VERY GOOD AND GOOD HAND AND SHOULDER PAT Tobias gave a SUPER WIDE TOOTHY GRIN and then nodded eagerly at the Runes professor. "Thanks sir!" he replied and then hurried back to his own desk, walking as quickly as he dared what with all these pointy carvey tools and stuff. But he was eager to get started so as soon as he was seated again he got started with the message. Really it could be sent to anyone, but Ella was pretty close by and she was pretty cooooool and like super good at this word stuff so SHE WOULD GET THE MESSAGE. Cupping one hand over his parchment so NOBODY else could sneak a peak at what his message was because he wanted it to be a surprise, Tobias jotted the words down on his marchment. It may not be a very personal message but... well... it was a message that was meant to be in RUNES. Tobias was taking NO CHANCES. He figured that the actual translating to runes was going to be the easy bit... doing the phonetic stuff was kind of hard. Also, following the rules they'd been taught was easy... because it was like 'don't use this' and 'make sure you do this', but the phonetic stuff was more about interpretation. Toby felt that there was more room for error, but he didn't want to check with the professor again in case there wasn't much time left in the lesson, so he decided to just focus SUPER HARD on the message and then just trust that it was right. In any case, being wrong was how people learned, right? Once the message was written out, Tobias worked on the phonetic part. There were some bits that were super tricky... there were a few ways they could have been spelt phonetically, but maybe that meant they'd all be accepted? He wrote out a few variations of those words and tilted his head at them before picking the best combination. There were a couple of words that didn't even look like they would be able to be translated back to make sense... Tobias wondered whether it was harder to translate TO or FROM runes, what with the runes that could mean more than one letter... or the J/Y rule... BUT ANYWAY. Soon he had a very well covered piece of parchment, covered in the names of runes and tiny sketches of the and a LOT of crossings out where he'd realised he was wrong. Tobias looked at the parchment, took a moment to find the message again, and double checked his work. Glancing round to make sure nobody was snooping, Tobias found a fresh piece of parchment and wrote the message purely in runes on that. He kept checking to make sure he was doing it right, eager to continue showing how capable he was. Soon enough, the message was written, and though Tobias had a nagging feeling that there WERE a few mistakes in there, probably stemming from the phonetics thing, the Hufflepuff blew on the ink to dry it and then turned the parchment over so everyone could continue not-seeing-it. He did exactly the same with the rough draft. Right, time to carve his NAME. SAH-WEEEEEEEEEET. |
Post 7. Dylan took the opportunity to just look around and see what everyone else was doing...because he was a nosy!face like that. Hmm...He creeped on Alice a moment, scooting his chair over to her desk to take a gander at all the things. "Yo....." STARE. "...that's cool." Pat, pat, pat... ...and then he scooted back to his seat. It was nice to give his eyes a break...considering he's been carving for like...half an hour or whatever. FINGER CRAMPS. He'd even stood up for a moment...stretching his aching legs. Once done with his mini!break, though, the Captain retook his seat and set himself back to work. Burin in hand, he focused his energies on Peyton's name. Ol' Peyton...She was such a sun!spot. Truly a joy to play quidditch with and such a sweet girl...Yep, her name began with Perthro...shaped like a table on it's side or something like that. "...perthro perthro perthro....pu pa pi pe po....purdh pardh pirdh perdh pordh.....po pe pi pa pu.....p p p e e e r r r th th th r r r o o o....."...Ehwaz...Jera....Tiwaz...Othala...Nauthiz... Dylan chanted for each one, quickly and efficiently forming the runes. This things was turning out GREAT. Naturally, he'd have to duplicate this wood piece...and the letter...for each member...and owl it to them. He just hoped they liked it...MEEP. WHAT IF THEY DIDN'T LIKE IT?! Blink. Dylan hadn't thought about that... Baltazar....Berkana...Ansuz...Laguz...Tiwaz...Ansu z...Algiz..."elhaz elhaz elhaz...z z z z z z z z z...." Yep, deep whirling, whistling sound.... "...uz az iz ez uz....oz ez iz az uz....z z z z z z z z z....(m m m m m m m m m)...."...Ansuz...Raidho... Done. Six down, five to go. Derry's had been confusing for him...but it was open for interpretation, right? It wasn't an exact science or anything...So, with that in mind...AHEM. "...dagaz dagaz dagaz...dh dh dh dh dh dh dh dh dh...d d d a a a g g g a a a z z z...du da di de do...dh dh dh dh dh dh dh dh dh...odh edh idh adh udh...od ed ud ad ud...d d d a a a g g g a a a z z z........ehwo ehwo ehwo....e e e e h w o o o....ehwu ehwa ehwi ehwe ehwo.....ehwo ehwe ehwi ehwa ehwu....e e e e h w o o o....Raidho Raidho Raidho... r r r r r r r r r... ru ra ri re ro.. rudh radh ridh redh rodh.. rut rat rit ret rot.... or er ir ar ur.. r r r r r r r r r.."...Ehwaz...Tiwaz....Hagalaz?...Welp, that's what he was carving it as. If it was wrong, it was wrong. No big deal. They still know who he meant.... Her last name came next...Ferrier...or Ferier... Fehu, Ehwaz, Raidho, Isa, Ehwaz, and ANOTHER Raidho....Seriously, the Slytherin was getting so familiar with these runes, their chants, and the shapes of them...He'd have no problems come NEWT time. Pretty exciting stuff. Seven down, four to go... Not much more... |
these no longer count wheeee .... ? Why was.. her work being stared at? And why was she being patted? Alice looked at Dylan curiously for a moment, but then scooted her chair over to peek at HIS work. Because she could be a nosy face, too. And.. was he writing all of his team names on that one block of wood? Son of a garden gnome, that was a lot. She might have gaped a bit before adjusting her expression. "Yo." STARE. Staaare. "...... that's cool." And totally insane. But still cool. And then she patted HIM before scooting away again. |
Post 8. FOUR MORE... JUST FOUR MORE. Dylan was totally pep-talking himself...as he moved onto to Richard's name. He was in desperate need of some water...and his hands were beginning to cramp up some from grasping the burin so hard. The Slytherin could power through it, though. Pain was not a thing to him... Oh, a wild ALICE had appeared. SMIRK. "Thank you, love."...Bye, Alice... Anyway... Raidho......Isa......Sowilo......Hagalaz......Ansu z......Raidho......Dagaz......The excitement of being almost finished was starting to settle in. The runes seemed to be coming out faster as he moved the burin across the wood, still keeping with the 'right, then left' formation. Richard's last name was easy enough, too. T-U-R-N-E-R. Already phonetically correct...he hoped. UGH. Either way, too last to fix it now if it wasn't right. So....MOVING ON..."tiwaz tiwaz tiwaz...t i i i i i r r r r r...tu ta ti te ter tor...tur tar tir ter tor...ot et it at ut...T i i i i i r r r r r......uruz uruz uruz....u u u u u u u u u....u u u u u u r r r r r r...u u u u u u u u u.....Raidho Raidho Raidho... r r r r r r r r r... ru ra ri re ro.. rudh radh ridh redh rodh.. rut rat rit ret rot.... or er ir ar ur.. r r r r r r r r r......naudhiz naudhiz naudhiz....n n n n n n n n n....nu na nu ne no.....nudh nadh hudh nedh niodh....(nut nat nit net not)....un an in en on....n n n n n n n n n.....ehwo ehwo ehwo....e e e e h w o o o....ehwu ehwa ehwi ehwe ehwo.....ehwo ehwe ehwi ehwa ehwu....e e e e h w o o o...Raidho Raidho Raidho... r r r r r r r r r... ru ra ri re ro.. rudh radh ridh redh rodh.. rut rat rit ret rot.... or er ir ar ur.. r r r r r r r r r...." DONE. Eight down, THREE to go... Now...for Miss Logan...Miss Logan because she was a sassy!face and that was okay. Everyone on his team was sassy, actually. Emulation of their Captain? Dylan thought so. He'd been known to be extremely sassy in his day...A-R-I-A-N-A...was pretty straight-forward...So, he began working the burin and chanting the songs and such....Ansuz, Raidho, Isa, Ansuz, Nauthiz, and then Ansuz AGAIN. Lots of ANSUZ in that name...Might've meant that Logan's name was a good one, considering the rune itself meant some pretty cool things...and then he was working on 'Logan'...L-O-G-A-N...Pretty straight-forward, too...just like her first name. Laguz, Othala, Gebo, Ansuz, and Nauthiz. Chanted and carved. IN THAT ORDER. SO CLOSE TO THE END... ....JUST TWO MORE..... Yep...he was flying through those... Clement Belrose....Clement Belros....Done! Sky Carter-Hope....Ski Carter-Hop....SIGH. Long name...Dylan moved down below Clement's name to start carving Sky's...They might have just been reserve players...but they were still a part of what made the team so great. Good, positive energies and laughs. Sowilo...Kenaz..."..kenaz kenaz kenaz..ku ka ki ke ko...kun kan kin ken kon...ok ek ik ak uk...kaunnnnnnnnn..."...Isa...rounding out her name...and then moving onto the last...which was SO long. Carter-Hope....Carter-Hop...Kenaz, Ansuz, Raidho, Tiwaz..."...ehwo ehwo ehwo....e e e e h w o o o....ehwu ehwa ehwi ehwe ehwo.....ehwo ehwe ehwi ehwa ehwu....e e e e h w o o o.....Raidho Raidho Raidho... r r r r r r r r r... ru ra ri re ro.. rudh radh ridh redh rodh.. rut rat rit ret rot.... or er ir ar ur.. r r r r r r r r r...."....and 'Hop'... "hagalaz hagalaz hagalaz....h h h h h h h h h....hu ha hi he ho....hug hag hig heg hog...(hul hal hil hel hol)....oh eh ih ah uh....h h h h h h h h h.......othala othal othal....o o o o o o o o o....o o o o o o...othul othal othil othel othol...othol othel othil othal othul....o o o o o o........ehwo ehwo ehwo....e e e e h w o o o...ehwu ehwa ehwi ehwe ehwo....ehwo ehwe ehwi ehwa ehwu...e e e e h w o o o..." DONE. NOW....for the other stuff.... |
4 - sorry it's so long but sleeeeep... I hope it makes sense (also Ella in here :3) Gloves on, burin in hand and textbook open to the galdr chapter in front of him once again, Tobias glanced at his 'planning' parchment and quickly established which rune he was carving first. Though... he kind of already knew. Because he knew his name and that it started with T and that T was Tiewaz... YUP. SEE. HE WAS RIGHT. Feeling kind of pleased he'd remembered it... AND what it looked like, Tobias set to finding the galdr he needed and wasted NO TIME in starting to carve and "Tiwaz tiwaz tiwaz... t i i i i i r r r r r..." Seriously what was that part even about it made no sense. But TOBY was NOT going to start questioning the RUNES 'cause it was Botros' subject and he liked Botros so yeeeahhhh... "tu ta ti te ter tor, tur tar tir ter tor" He did sound like an idiot though. "ot et it at ut... (Tyr Tyr), T i i i i i r r r r r." Wait, hadn't he already said that bit? ... Oh, it was done. Maybe because he knew the rune and it was pretty simple and there were a few times where he paused, the run was pretty much already finished. He did need to finish off the last tiny line though and figured he should probably do the galdr again while he did, because he was being SUPER THOROUGH. Tobias of course finished the line before the galdr so he kind of pretended that he was still carving the run as he finished it so he didn't look like a prized pillock sitting there singing and not carving. RIGHT. NEXT. OTHALA. This one looked kinda easy enough to carve too. Tobias was totally glad they WERE all straight lines. It did make sense, after all. But yes. Galdr time. "Othala othal othal... o o o o o o o o o... o o o o o o..." Tobias was starting to get slightly suspicious that maybe these song things were mainly to make the lesson fun. Like at everyone's expense. Because Toby sure was finding it ridiculous to hear a whole class full of people chanting vowels and weird words. Hm. BUT IT WAS MAGIC AND IT WORKED SO IT DIDN't MATTER YAY. "Othul othal othil othel othol... othol othel othil othal othul... o o o o o o." Well that seemed done. As Tobias looked at the galdr for the next on and prepared to carve it too, he wondered vaguely how the galdr was magic. Toby supposed you could ask that about all magic, but really with usual magic unless you were super powerful you needed a wand. So was the magic with THIS coming from the rune being carved or the song thing? Or both? It was kind of fascinating. Anyway, next was the B one which was easy to remember because it looked JUST like a B. Okay, next one... Berkana? Berkano? ... Well, the B rune anyway. And this galdr seemed slightly longer than the others so far; if he kind of slowed down he could probably get it in one run through. "Berkano berkano berkano, bu ba bi be bo... b e e e e e r r r r r-" teeny giggle here because Tobias hadn't said something that wasn't nonsense in AGES. "(burk bark birk berk bork)" now he sounded like a doggy "ob eb ib ab ub... b e e e e e r r r r r." All this concentrating had Toby's eyes stinging and his concentration wandering, so he didn't waste much time before moving on to the next rune; sooner he was done, the sooner he could sit and... well that was it. Dead easy one here. It was barely any lines. "Eihwaz eihwaz eihwaz... (iwaz iwaz iwaz)...e e e e e e e e e-" wait what was that? A neutral closed vowel sound? Did that mean he had to decide what went there? Tobias paused for a moment, trying to think if he'd heard anyone else have to do this one, but everyone was working at the same time so it was hard to tell, so in the end he just... left that little bit. It could be nothing. "Iwu iwa iwi iwa iwu... iwo iwe iwi iwa iwu... e e e e e e e e e." THAT WOULD JUST HAVE TO DO. Ansuz again... that shouldn't be too hard, since Tobias already had tried that rune with the practice one. Now he could even remember the amount of aws he needed, so it should be eeeeeeeasy. "Ansuz ansuz ansuz..." here goes... "aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw s s s s s s aw aw aw aw aw aw" BREEEEEEATHE "aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw." SEE? Easy. This one was actually glowing kinda brighter than the first try with it... and the other runes he'd done on that piece of wood. So wait... only one rune left? WICKED. Sowilo. Okay. Looked a bit fiddly but achievable nonetheless. Burin ready, AAAAAAAAAAAND... "Sowilo sowilo sowilo... s s s s s s s s s, s s s o o o l l l... su sa si se so (sul sal sil sel sol) us as is es os... si se su sa su... s s s s s s s s s." Toby was DONE. Okay so the further he'd got, the more tired he was and the more likely it was that he'd have made a mistake, but he was still SUPER enthusiastic about this activity and learning how to translate sentences into runes. Tobias blew the excess wood shavings from the desktop and then put the parchment on top of it. He didn't even have to get up to reach Ella's desk; he was able to reach it and place his rune stuff on there by streeeeeetching... slightly trecherous though... he was still small enough that a centimeter or so further and he'd be on the floor. But Tobias didn't say anything, just left it on Ella's desk and went back to sitting at his own, a smile on his face 'cause he was super clever and GOOD at RUNES. SPOILER!!: the name thingy SPOILER!!: the parchment |
Post 9. SO...CARVING WAS COMPLETE...but unfortunately for him, the finer detailing was not. Dylan wanted to duplicate the wooden planks...and he wanted to polish them, give them a nice shine...and Diffindo! the edges so it LOOKED plaque-like...You know, the shape and stuff. Putting the burin down...FINALLY...the Slytherin pulled his wand and tapped at his chin thoughtfully. Now, how much did he want to cut off these sides? That was the question...It was a perfect square in shape, yes...and he wanted to maintain that...So, just a little. Nothing too dramatic... Taking some deep breaths, Dylan carefully cut at the wood at an angle...making sure to keep his hand steady and sure. Didn't want to cut into the desk or anything. That would've most-likely been frowned upon...After the top-side was cut away, he moved onto the next side, matching up the angle to the first...before also cutting that away. Dylan had a good eye for things like that...Math. He loathed it...but surprisingly enough, he was rather good at the subject... After the second side was completed, the third and fourth joined them. Surveying his work, the Slytherin nodded (to himself, of course) and cleared the excess wood scraps away. Now to polish it..."Poliotus!" Dylan moved his wand in an 'S' shape over the wooden plank, now carved with the names of all his teammates. A few seconds later, it GLEAMED...now polished thanks to a spell Professor Knox had taught them. Thank you, Professor Knox. Now to duplicate things... He'd need......ten copies as he'd keep the original. So, putting the 'plaque' in the center of his desk, Dylan focused his magic. FOCUSED. "Geminio!" Flick. After the first copy popped up, he repeated the action nine more times... "Geminio!" Flick! "Geminio!" Flick! "Geminio!" Flick! "Geminio!" Flick! Same with the parchment. After carefully stacking the wood pieces in the corner of his desk, the Captain laid the parchment out front and center, focusing again. After Geminio!ing and flick!ing those the appropriate amount of times, he was totally done. Wait... Should he write translations, too? What if members of his team didn't know what it meant? Dylan pondered on that a moment. Meh, if they asked, he'd tell them. "Professor! All done!" SPOILER!!: Runes Letter! SPOILER!!: Runes Plaque! |
Text Cut: Alice #1 Hahaha, no. "That would be a tad unfair to your friends." Because Botros was POSITIVE everyone would be interested in a summer extra Runes class. Who blamed them?! Runes were crazy fun. He did flash the Gryffindor a shifty smirk, though. Text Cut: Asher Nodding, satisfied with the boy's work, Botros gave him an extra big smile. "That's what I'm here for. Great job." For such a little boy, he was quite gifted with runes! Text Cut: Kace Botros smiled and nodded at Kace. He corrected the boy's work one last time before he went off to his desk to start working on writing the message and carve the name. Text Cut: Alice #2 ... hmm? Botros turned when someone tugged on his sleeve. "Wh- Oh." AWWW. How sweet! He gave her a bright touched smile, with watery eyes and all, "Thank you, Alice." Friends talking over here. Text Cut: Dylan Oh yes, another one of whom Botros had high expectations. The professor moved over to Dylan's desk and picked up his parchment. "Oh, a real letter. Quite impressive, Captain Montmorency." He then focused on the script. It took him a moment to decipher it all before he patted the young... MAN's shoulder and leaning closer to him. "This is a beautiful message to write to your team, great job, son." He got his wand out then and pointed at few runes, "There are two mistakes in the end here. No need for Hagalaz in this word, replace it with Tiewaz instead. And then in this one, remove those two and add Thurisaz." But Botros didn't want the boy to mess the lovely ink-job so he corrected it for him before looking at one of the pieces of wood. "Very beautiful. This one is perfect." He returned it on the desk and smiled at his protégé. |
SPOILER!!: Professor! "Thank you, sir." Naturally with Professor Botros being the highest authority (according to Dylan), his opinion meant the absolute most. In fact, Dylan had done the extra work in hopes that he might impress the Professor...and it'd worked! Also...he'd called him SON. Wibble. Dylan felt like he might get a bit emotional right then and there...but they were MEN...and...*SNIFFLE*...he'd need to pull it together. Breath. "You are an inspiration, sir."...BREATH... ...and there had been a tiny mistake in his letter...but because Professor Botros was so awesome, he'd fixed it with some magic...Meaning the Slytherin's hard work wouldn't be messed up and flawed for when he sent it out to his teammates. SPOILER!!: Revised Letter! "...........Thank you....again, Professor." His voice and tone might have sounded a little low. Unfortunately, he was finally realizing this would be his last lesson with the man... |
Post 4 SPOILER!!: Bostros! "Thanks you very much Professor!" Kace smiled to him as he returned to his desk. Now he was gonna do the carving this time or maybe practicing saying the words right? Yeah he would so do that first! He was gonna start doing his message now. He was gonna start with To. He started to practice chant. He was gonna do..... "tiwaz tiwaz tiwaz.....t i i i i i r r r r r.....tu ta ti te ter tor...tur tar tir ter tor....ot et it at ut....(Tyr Tyr).....T i i i i i r r r r r....." Now onto Othala. "othala.... othal.... othal....o o o o o o o o o....o o o o o o....othul othal othil othel othol....othol othel othil othal othul.....o o o o o o......" *Whew* This was a lot of work! Then he did the chanting for real and carving and it was working! He was happy. He managed to write TO down on his piece of wood! WOOT now onto many more.... He was gonna do HOPE. He could DO this. He was gonna practice like before. "hagalaz hagalaz hagalaz....h h h h h h h h h...hu ha hi he ho....hug hag hig heg hog...hul hal hil hel hol....oh eh ih ah uh.....h h h h h h h h h" He was beginning to feel foolish but everyone else was doing it so he shouldn't be afraid. Now onto O. "othala.... othal.... othal....o o o o o o o o o....o o o o o o....othul othal othil othel othol....othol othel othil othal othul.....o o o o o o......" Then P. "perthro perthro perthro....pu pa pi pe po...purdh pardh pirdh perdh pordh....po pe pi pa pu....p p p e e e r r r th th th r r r o o o!" and then he did for real this time. Once he said it his carvings were coming out well!!! He was doing it. He liked doing this and even his runes were glowing in the process. He got the first part down out of MANY more to do.... |
