Greenhouse three served as the backdrop for the second Herbology lesson of the term. A long table has been brought in especially for the lesson and is surrounded by stools. Along the table you see a numberof oddly shaped jars and bottles with micro gardens in them. Beneath the long table are jars of various shapes as sizes, mostly consisting of large pickling jars.
Professor Bentley is not yet present, so you're free to take a seat, look around, mind you don't go breaking any rules.
OOC: The lesson has started. If you haven't done so already then please read through the Herbology Rules and Expectations and the SS Site Rules. All SS Board Rules apply. IC rule breaking will result in IC punishment, OOC rule breaking will result in OOC punishment. Please behave appropriately and most importantly... have fun. If you have any questions don't hesitate to send me a PM.

Herbology was one of those classes that Mo liked and understood and was overly exuberant about attending, although he was awfully exuberant about most classes he took. He was exuberant in general.
Mo took up a spot near West, giving a nod to Creepy and Kaiden... and maybe a small one at Lex. Since she was there too.
"No professor yet? Do we have a sub? Is that our sub?" She was... super pretty. Looked familiar, though. A friend of his mother's? She got a huge smile and a wave for being pretty familiar.

Are you going to be teaching today?" Alyssa asked before she belatedly realized that she was a candidate running for the Board of Governors.
Alyssa sighed. 'Bummer, she's just a guest checking up on the class.' she thought to herself as her enthusiasm dropped back to the normal range again.
"I'm afraid Herbology is outside of my specialty, Alyssa. If it was Spagyrics, perhaps." She smiled at the Hufflepuff. "But it looks like Professor Bentley has something fun in store for you." She gestured at all the jars and whatnot.

Flowers were lovely indeed!
Anyway. "Hello, Professor Schirmer!" The badger greeted her very first Charms professor with a warm smile. And.... professor Bentley? Where was she? The brunette looked around and looked a bit puzzled when she didn't see their Herbology professor there.
Shrugging, she went to take a seat next to Ella. "Hey there!"
"Hello Sophie! Still doing well in Charms I hope." She'd had potential even as a little girl.
Children were trickling in quicker now and generally first impressions were that they were all rather excited to be here. That was good. No groans of apprehension, no panicked looks. Just smiles and eagerness. That said a lot for Seren's class and it hadn't even begun yet. She returned the smile to a boy who had just entered --Cassandra's son, she believed-- and then looked at the time. Not long now. Althea jotted down a few notes.

Entering the greenhouse, her body surging with energy, Seren wandered along the length of the table, smiling and waving at some of the students, and uttering a polite "Hello" to the rest. She'd paused briefly when she noticed the two BoG Candidates nice and early and ready to judge/observe her. Fantastic! She offered them a smile and a nod of the head.
Right, time to get going. "In your seats please," she started, quickly checking to ensure the students hadn't broken anything or themselves. "Welcome, I trust by now you have all figured out the nature of our lesson today?" It was a rhetorical question, and really, if any of them didn't know, then perhaps they ought to spend more time in DADA.. learning to become more vigilant. "So we'll hop right down to business, today is a solely practical lesson, I will guide you through the steps of producing your very own miniature biome terrarium. But first of all, could you please take out any seeds, bulbs or spores you have collected in preparation for this class, if you haven't done so already."
That way, they could all get on with the show... and get a little dirty. "Need I remind you that you should all have your gloves on, ready for when we start."

Nope, no need for that reminder here. Though, it might look like it considering that she didn't have hers on. But, she hadn't wanted to put them on before class began because, well, she didn't like them. Anyway, she placed her seed packet (marigolds, if anyone was curious) on the table in front of her and slipped her gloves on. There, ready for the lesson. And if anyone was dumb enough not to have figured the lesson out, well, they really didn't deserve to be at Hogwarts, did they? "Ready, professor."

Zhenya smiled as Professor Bentley entered. She was already sitting on the stool she had chosen for herself, so she continued to listen as Professor Bentley addressed the class. Well, she had figured it out then. This would be really exciting and she was keen to get started. She had small bags full of seeds, bulbs and spores, with an image of a brightly coloured forest. She liked the idea of a Spring theme. So, she had done some research and ordered some spring-climate based bits and pieces which now rested on the table space in front of her.

Someone was excited.
"Hi Mika." West responded and sat back in his seat. Did he have to get his seeds and stuff out now? Nahhh it could wait.
West turned his attention to Sarah since she'd sat by him and openly looked at her doodling. Did she like to draw? West did.

When West said hi back to her she just nodded back - acknowledgement was key you know. She wasn't some kind of jerky-panted mean-girl who wouldn't say hi or acknowledged someone as cool as West. Besides she rather liked him in that he's dating a great girl and she's cool so he's cool by association...even though he was cool before hand. He'd really wracked up the cool points with Westomancy earlier that term.
When Mo entered and gave her a nod she returned it quickly. Though she did almost panic when she heard him asking about subs. That would not be good.

Mika just sighed, shoulders sagging with relief as she noticed Professor Bentley was there. She smiled to the Professor, and glanced down to her gloved hands. Yeah she was ready.
Reaching into her bag she pulled out a little tin filled with seeds - small seeds, some larger seeds, and some that were almost impossibly tiny. There seeds out, reaching in again she pulled out a few bulbs - flowers mainly, and again a spore or two.
SniffleSniffleSniffle.
Screwed up face.
SniffleSniffleSniffle. Ahchoo.
She glanced up pink faced as she realized she had just uttered the weirdest loud-to-silent sneeze ever. Yeah, it was the dust and dirt, and spores maybe?

Was she seeing things or did Mo kinda, sorta...in a way nod at her. She was a bit stunned actually but she wasn't going to go getting all excited because every time she got excited when he acknowledged her he shut down again. She would act like it didn't matter whether he'd nodded or not by keeping her expression even. She did nod back though, just really casually.

Oh lookit! The Professor had arrived. She took this as her cue to sit and when she did she pulled out the seeds like she was instructed to. Yes. Seeds because if she had only brought one the chances of her being able to find it by the start of the lesson would have been low. What kind of seeds they were were for her to know and everyone to find out once she decided she would tell them but for now, it was nobody's business.
She sat eagerly, seeds ready, and waited on the Professor's next set of instructions.

Alyssa was still grinning at Professor Schirmer's reply when out of the blue Professor Bentley walked in and immediately got down to business...which was to tell them what their class was all about today. 'Bummer no getting to know what we're doing questions? That's always the interesting part.' Alyssa thought to herself as she pulled out the packet containing her seeds and opened it up to reveal the contents inside. She first poured out the Water lily seeds into one hand and then the Sala Berry seeds into the other hand before placing both sets of seeds on the worktable.
Then she pulled out her gloves, put them on and waited for Professor Bentley to tell them what to do next.

"Gloves on,'' he muttered as he turned his attention back to Professor Bentley.

Seemed to Alice like there was a flock of students around that former Charms professor, the one running for the Board that was currently located in their classroom. She REMEMBERED her from that debate, you know? The one who talked for ages and ages and ages, she recalled. Even though her answers were lengthy, though, she had liked the lady. But if she was a Charms professor, what was she doing in a Herbology class?
Whatever. They were old people. Probably had their reasons, it was something or the other.
Instead of chattering like everyone else, she remained unusually quiet as she pulled out the spores and bulbs. Biome terrarium? Alice casually pretended like she knew what that meant as she set the plant stuff in front of her and slipped her hands into her gloves, turning her attention back to Bentley. "Ready, professor."

Ivy gave the Herbology professor a nod as she entered the room before returning her attention back to Althea. "Oh, I'm in for a treat no matter what, being able to attend the class rather than teach it myself." Ivy loved teaching advanced Herbology, but it was also nice being able to watch the young students learn.

Well, there really wasn’t too much of a conversation to start the lesson. In fact, Kendall blinked, after she had returned Professor Bentley’s smile. Usually they didn’t go straight into the practical, but then, maybe there wasn’t a need for discussion over biomes since they had gone into that before they had focused on swamps in the previous lesson. At least she now knew that her theory that they were going to be making their own versions of all the terrariums displayed on the table was actually a fact. Plus, she knew that hers was going to be awesome, even if she wasn’t sure how well some of the seeds she had in a little container hidden in her bag would fare inside a container. She wanted something that reminded her of home, so that was what she was going to try to get. Even if it meant asking the professor a bunch of questions as to how she would replicate the environment around Galway inside a jar, she was going to figure out how to and then maybe she could keep it up by her bed in the dorms and have yet another memory of home.
First things first, though, which apparently meant gloves. Of course she had those too, and she pulled them out of her bag along with the container of seeds she had asked Isabel to send her over the holidays, setting it onto the table carefully. Her best friend and sister-in-law had come through, and even included her favorite flower as well. Although that was another of the questions she was going to ask the professor when they got started. Namely, if they needed to use a spell or something to miniaturize the plants so they wouldn’t grow too big for the terrarium. They hadn’t actually started yet, however, so for now she merely slipped her gloves on so she would be ready when they did.

Elise didn't have time to take notes this time, nor did she have to. They were going straight into the practical, which admittedly was rather strange. Usually Professor Bently would explain the topic to them a little, ask a couple of questions and THEN go into the practical. Considering their previous lesson that term, however, maybe they didn't have to. The entire thing was about ecosystems, anyway.
Pulling her container that she usually used for potions, she stared at the different seeds. They were... colourful, for seeds. Snapping her gloves on, she fidgeted a little as she waited for the lesson to progress. Yup. She was ready whenever the rest of the class was.

They seemed to be getting down to business almost immediately, eh? No more questions to answer and brains to rack. It was sort of a relief for Kat, because she wasn't in the mood to talk and discuss about things. The Slytherin did as she was instructed and took out her seeds, placing them in front of her. She even had bulbs and spores, that she wasn't sure which is which. Her sister Dianna did send it over to her yesterday, accompanied with a letter announcing that her nephew was born. Mystery name though, so Kat had to ask about it when she got home for summer. Anyway, next she took out her gloves and slipped them on. For safety and protection, you know. They were going to get dirt on their hands, but Kat didn't mind.
Kat examined the seed, bulbs, and spores of her classmates. Hmm, they were still seeds so Kat couldn't tell the name of it just yet. They were still going to grow them, at least that was what she thought of. Inference-making. She waited for the others to get their seeds out and for further instructions.

"Good to hear it." Herbology was fun but of course the professor made a big difference to whether or not the kids enjoyed a class. It was good to hear the enthusiasm.... even if she wasn't so sure about this.... playing in a swamp business. And playing in the dirt? "We'll see, I don't want to interrupt the lesson, and I have work to do unfortunately. But I'll be watching. Make sure you have fun for me." She suggested with another smile and a wink, suddenly having the urge to get her fingers in the dirt herself. Well, she'd have gardening to look forward to eventually, since wherever she and Dash moved to would need the garden to be.... redesigned to suit them. She recrossed her legs the other way and made a few more notes.

A smile and nod back to Seren and Althea listened to the class introduction, noting the surprise on some of the student's faces that it was to be entirely practical. Well, nothing wrong with changing it up a bit. And safety first. More notes were written.
Gloves onnnnn and seeeds and stuff. West had quite the collection, the only trick was that most of them he didn't know what they were, since they were labelled only as 'assorted'. Did that matter? West arranged the packets in front of him and kept one eye on the professor. You know, the one that was teaching the class, not the Board of Governors ones.
And Mo got wave of greeting.

Ivy loved teaching advanced Herbology, but it was also nice being able to watch the young students learn.
"You're quite popular," she added to Thea quietly, noticing many of the students greeting the former professor. And totally ignoring HER. How rude. She was important, too, you know.
"It has been a while." Attending a class that was. She missed it too even if this was observational and a basic lesson and not one where she'd be doing much engaging or learning for herself.
As for being popular... well. She smiled at that. She had thoughts, but they could discuss it later.

Gloves on and the Slytherin was ready to go. He had several different sizes of bulbs, a few pockets seeds and whatever those other things were..... spores?yeah that sounded right. And what was this? A flower how'd that get in there?
He tossed it over to the side. He wouldn't need that, for anything.
Arranging his collection of items for the mini biome terrarium garden thingy. He turned on sit up each thing so he could read the label. He was so ready and as for the other to adults in the room, Hey there. And can we on with this soon the fourth year was hungry.

Beams and waves were given to each familiar face that arrived and Ella gave a particularly wide smile to her best friend when she sat down next to her. Grin! Classes with Sophie were always fun because her enthusiasm about like...everything always rubbed off on Ella. Mhm!
And then Bentley arrived and Ella sat up a little straighter, wavinggggg in response to her greeting. Oh haiiii, Professor! And seeds and buds and spores. Yup, the fifteen year old definitely had a few of those. She organized them on the table in front of her and made sure her gloves were on and ready to work.
Her eyes then traveled back up to the front and a small smile played on her lips. She was ready to rumble.

"Staring at glass jars your new hobby, is it?" Spike joked, raising an eyebrow. She certainly seemed very interested in them.
One eyebrow instantly went up after getting a wink from her fellow Prefect. What was he playing at, huh? She still felt left out somehow, as though there was something he wasn't telling her, and she didn't like being hapless when it apparently seemed that whatever it was she didn't know was of significance. Due to this, she wasn't in the mood to talk to him.
Her attention had barely returned to the glasses when he spoke up, his question making her look back to his direction. "Well, those terrariums inside the jars are worth my while. You can't really blame me if I'm interested." Then she lifted her chin slightly. Hmp.
Oh and,"Professor Schirmer. She started, pointing at the woman who was once their Charms Professor. "You think she'll win?"

Before receiving a reply from Spike though, their Herbology Professor was scurrying inside, looking all energetic and piped up for their lesson. Of course. Who wouldn't be as enthusiastic when they were going down with practicals today? She, herself was pretty much ready for this too.
Bouncing bulbs! They were going to create their own biome terrarium?!
Her mouth hang open for a few moments before settling into a rather broad grin. Her own little garden inside a jar, the mere thought was spending warmth through her veins. She was excited. VERY.
The gloves were placed on securely and per instruction, the brunette took out the seeds and bulbs that she brought with her. A miniature rainforest was her choice, exotic in appeal but one that still maintains a simplicity to it. Next steps, please?

He'd really wracked up the cool points with Westomancy earlier that term.
When Mo entered and gave her a nod she returned it quickly. Though she did almost panic when she heard him asking about subs. That would not be good.
That woman was wordy - like crazy insane wordy. Like multiply the amount of words in every single biblical text around of all religions by the amount of words in the Websters dictionary and you'd have half of that amount.
Or that's how it felt to her.
Bouncing Blueberries!
"Bless you dear!" Seren said... though she hoped the girl didn't have allergy issues. Or if she did... that she'd be smart enough to see the nurse.

And if anyone was dumb enough not to have figured the lesson out, well, they really didn't deserve to be at Hogwarts, did they? "Ready, professor."

"Wonderful," she replied, acknowledging their enthusiasm and readiness.
It amused her, to see the responses of most of the students as she got the lesson underway. What were they expecting? Story time? More discussions? After all, their previous lesson wasn't exactly practical. They didn't get the opportunity to get their hands dirty... and that was such a shame.
"Good. Now the first thing we'll need to do is prep our vessel. If you have your own jar you'd like to use, feel free to do so... for those that didn't elect to get your own... there are plenty available beneath the table. So first thing first... everyone select a jar, and you'll need to enlarge it using the engorgement charm, engorgio. For those unfamiliar with the charm, please seek help from a peer or myself." And well... she would have offered up Althea's assistance, but having not consulted the woman at the beginning of the lesson, it probably wouldn't be appropriate. Still, she looked to her two guests... the other one she wasn't really familiar with, though she was familiar with the name, Ivy. Naturally, a name like that, she would remember.
After performing the spell on a jar she had placed in front of her, she began wandering along the length of the table, observing.

Spike got the distinct impression that she didn't want him there, not alone to talk to him, and he frowned as he pushed his glasses up his nose. What would make her be like that? Was this about him not being a pushover and taking on her patrols any more? Well, he had good reason...even if, now he came to think about it, his co-Prefect didn't know what that reason actually was. In an official sense. He didn't feel the need to tell her though, as he was quite happy as he was. Without her making judgements.
He snorted. "Right." Of course the terraniums were interesting. Just... Eh, whatever. Sigh.
Professor Schirmer? Spike shrugged. "I've not really been paying that much attention, to be honest." Most of the impact of the board of governers would be felt after he'd left, and he had plenty to think about already. Careers, apparition lessons, classes, NEWTs, Prefecting, Jacks... "I'm sure she has a good chance," he said with a nod, as he pulled two containers of seeds from his bag.

Spike might have given Professor Bentley a small roll of his eyes as he put on his gloves. He knew there was no wriggle room in class, but after teaching him for nearly seven years, he was sure she knew his feelings about wearing gloves unless absolutely necessary. He never wore them in his own projects. He gave a grin afterwards though, clearly excited about today's project. He'd grown plenty of stuff, but never in the form of one of these. H was quite hopeful he'd get to keep it.
With that in mind, Spike headed towards the table of jars, and chose quite a nice squat one for his project. He'd spent so long deliberating between ecosystems, he'd not even thought about a container before the lesson. And he STILL had to decide which biome to put in it. Hmm.
He returned to the desk (and Miss Mopey-Pants Castell), and put the jar by his seeds. "Engorgio!" he said confidently, watching the jar grow. Er, how big did it need to be exactly? Presumably enough to be able to plant things, so his was probably okay. He could get his hands in and out the top easily, anyway.

Jory had not brought his own jar so he got up and headed towards the table of jars. After selecting a medium sized one, he returned to his seat. "Now to make it bigger.'' He got out his wand and pointed it to the jar which was directly in front of him. "Engorgio!'' The Puffer watched the jar as it enlarged. "Hope this is big enough,'' he thought after he stopped the charm.

Alyssa hadn't brought a jar of her own, so she jumped off her stool and walked up to the table where Professor Bentley had placed the jars and picked one up before walking back to her workstation. So they were supposed to enlarge them.
Taking out her wand, she pointed it at the jar in front of her and said,"ENGORGIO" and watched as the jar began to expand out and grow larger. Once it had enlargened, she ended the spell and waited for further instructions.
