Defense Against the Dark Arts Lesson 1

It was chilly in the arena this time in the morning, but the fires flickering in the braziers, scattered in the corners of the room, should warm it up quick enough. Frosty looking windows with morning sunlight shining through them gave an almost enchanting glow to the place. Familiar to most students, miniature desks were placed evenly apart on the ground, though the pillow styled mats would have been a new sight to take in. In different colors, they sat right next to their partnering desks, looking quite comfortable to sit on. The professor herself was sitting, lotus style, on her own deep burgundy colored pillow-mat, with two bags of pixie crisps and phoenix crackers sitting next to her, awaiting the arrival of the students.

OOC: The lesson has started. If you're just joining us, pretend as if your character has been here the whole time and jump in where we are currently at. Or risk your student losing points for being late.

*whistles*

After Medea had essentially trapped him in his office with her MONSTERS in search of his left over Fancy Feast - which was every single can but two out of the box of 24 - he was determined to get her back somehow. He had NOT enjoyed being trapped on his desk while the furry monsters waddled around on the floor. He had had to go over the floor with multiple lint rollers to remove all the fur for Merlin's sake!

So yes, THIS was his way of getting revenge. Heh.

Before the woman had even arrived in the dueling area, Airey had already been there lying face down riiiiiiiiiiiiight in front of her purple mat. Face down, feet together, hands tightly by his sides, and NOT moving a single muscle. In fact, one might have to look closely to even see that he was breathing, but he was. Breathing and perfectly aware of what was going on...just not responsive. To anyone who didn't know, it would appear as though Medea had hit him with a Full Body-Bind Curse and had left him out for students to see like some sort of trophy.

Heh. HEHEHEHEHEHE!

Defense Against the Dark Arts was one of the classes that Kat was interested in, considering that they were going to learn how to fend the dark creatures or learn combative spells that she could definitely use against someone who messed with her. Today was probably a good time to learn new Dark-ish stuff, yeah?

Kat went inside the classroom, and looked around. No people yet? HUH, did it always feel like this when you're alone with a professor. Well... PROFESSORS in this case. The blonde smiled at both the professors in front. "Good day, Professor Romanos, hope you had a nice summer," she said and then looked at the new Astronomy professor.

... Strange. "Good day to you as well, Professor..." What was his naaaame? "... Oh, Flamsteed." Yap, that was it. Then she nodded at the weird professor and then took a seat not so far away from... him.

Christmas entered the defense against the dark arts classroom and said "Good day Professor" Christmas made her way over to the first free seat and waited for the lesson to start

Audrey peered down at the professor on the mat. Okay, then. "Good morning, Professor Flamsteed?" she said politely. She hadn't had his class, yet, but had picked up his name..somewhere. She didn't remember.

Ooooh, those mats looked comfy.

She smiled at her DADA teacher and greeted her with a "Hello, Professor Romanos. My name is Audrey Moran and I'm really looking forward to your class," that was an alright introduction, right? As an afterthought, she added "Yours too, Professor Flamsteed, but isn't it on another day?" Why was he here?

Heading to the classroom, Cassia carried her bag and skipped with a cheerful expression. Why? Nothing just because she finding it cool to be walking around like a third year! Mhhmm..Very enjoyable. And it was very different from when she was a second year. Now, she was a thirteen years old heading to learn how to defense herself against the dark arts...Actually she hadn't yet learnt much but she was working on that and because this subject seemed important and might be the reason to save Cassia's life someday, the snake made sure she had read something in her book before heading to class. YUP...She had actually done that for real.

Entering the classroom, Cassia noticed another professor. She remembered the man being introduced at the feast as the new Astronomy professor. Cassia stepped near both the professors and beamed at them. "Good day, Professors!" She greeted them. And turned on her heals. She looked around to see pillows and stuff. Were they going to do the yoga thing like they do, it seemed so as the professor was in lotus position, It was cool!

Cassia chose a place and settled in. She was ready!

Bazinga 01-14-2013 01:35 PM

Minerva walked into class and smiled, "Hello Professor, how are you today?" Her smiled quickly went from a happy to be there smile to a what the heck is going on when she saw the other adult on the floor. Was that a new professor, should she say something.. Giving Professor Romanos a concerned look Minerva turned and found a place in the front. Setting down her things she got comfy on her mat.

She was happy to know they would do some more yoga, she always liked that part. It was a nice change from just sitting at regular desks. She did pull out her parchment to get ready for any notes she may need.

FireboltAvis88 01-14-2013 01:59 PM

Alyssa entered the DADA class and smiled. Nothing had changed. Not even Professor Romanos who could be seen sitting in her familiar yoga position.

Alyssa walked up to her and not wanting to disturb her medidation too much, greeted her. "Hello Professor. It's good to be back in your class." Alyssa whispered to her before she turned around and head for an empty purple mat, when she saw someone lying face down on one of them.

Was this a dummy/mannequin? Alyssa leaned down and looked at the face. It looked like the new Professor of Astronomy. But what was he doing? Alyssa reached out to poke the lying figure with her foot but decided not to....just in case the Professor was asleep. Who could blame him. These mats were very comfortable.

Walking past the Professor, she found an empty mat and sat down. Placing her bag to the side of her, Alyssa maneuvered her body into the lotus sitting position, close her eyes and decided that she would try some meditating until class started.

No Romanos so just Flamsteed ^____^

Oakey walked into the dueling Arena prepared for his first DADA Class of the year he came into the class and noticed right away what was off about the class. Their new Astronomy Professor lie flat on his face on the floor, and Professor Romanos was no where in sight! "Professor." Oakey said as he hurried over to the large foreheaded man. he removed his wand, and quickly cast "Finite Incantatum!" to remove what Oakey was sure was the full body bind curse from the man.

He stayed put though..."Professor you can move freely now." This was getting rather odd. Oakey walked over grabbed a pillow mat hybrid to sit on and faced in the direction of the Flamsteed."What're you doing, Sir?"

DuckyLinJi 01-14-2013 02:12 PM

When Daichi entered the dada classroom he eyed the fire in the corner before making his way to the front from the other side. There was NO WAY he was getting past the fire nuhuh! Reaching the front of the classroom, Daichi first saw the Astronomy professor near the purple mat the professor sat. He looked different though as if he had frozen.

Normally he would greet the professor who taught the lesson but when he saw the man on the ground he gasped. "Are you okay Sir?!" he asked as he began to shake the man with his hands. Daichi looked up at his dada Teacher and frowned. "Whats wrong with him? That orb isn't back right ?!" he asked and immediately looked around for an unexplained orb that had caused so much trouble a two terms back.

Just then Oakey appeared and the Slytherin literally slapped his forehead. The Professor had looked like he was frozen so possibly a he had been hit with a stunning spell, yeah must be it! He looked at the hufflepuff before giving a thumbs up.

laurange 01-14-2013 02:13 PM

Elise bounced down the many many stairs leading from the Ravenclaw Common Room all the way downstairs to the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom. She'd always loved this subject, it was just that she was never particularly good at the yoga that Professor Romanos made them do. Nope.

And as she peered into the classroom before she entered, she noticed the new professor. What was his name? Elise forgot. But he didn't appear to be very good at yoga either. In fact, he looked like Elise, the first time she attempted that crazy boat pose thing. And when she tried the tree pose. Not very good.

Walking over, Elise blinked at him a few times before nudging him with her bare foot. "Professor Flameseed?" she asked, because she wasn't sure if that was his name. "You alive?"

Nudge, nudge. Staaaare.

What had Professor Romanos done to him? Oh. Right. She had to wish the crazy professor. "G'day, Professor Romanos," she said before finding herself a mat relatively near the front. If Elise fell or anything, she would probably need a quick exit.

Steelsheen 01-14-2013 02:25 PM

Romanos & Flamsteed

Her next class was Defense....

The whole concept of "defense" was a little new to the young blonde. Defense taught to her at her age is to run for the fortified structure that is their temple and hide in its narrowest, most hidden crevices and stay there until the Priestesses call for them to come out. Naturally she'd have a lot of catching up to do with her peers who are learning the fine art of defense and twisting it into offense.

She screeched to a halt when she entered the room, looking at the odd looking mat and the tiniest table she has ever seen. And smiled. Nearly all her classes in Hogwarts had her sitting on that stiff chair. This time she gets to sit on the floor? Awesome! Just she does back home.

She saw the brunette WOMAN she guessed was the Professor "Good Morning Professor--"

*skip!stab!foot-on-planking-Flamsteed*

"Oh!" she gasped, gawking wide-eyed at the MAN on the floor. "Uhmmm uhm....." she stammered between the planking man and the brunette woman then pointed her slim fingers downward "Professor?..... are you sacrificing him or something?" she was reminded of wheat barley ready to be burned.

Uncle Moose 01-14-2013 02:28 PM

Flamsteed again

SPOILER!!: Daichi

He poked his wand into the side of Professor Flamsteed trying to think of something to do with the poor man. "We should move him away from the middle of the class. Someone might trip over the Professor if they don't see him here." He stood up from his pillowmat and gave the fellow Prefect a nod.

Alice wasn't going to nap in any classes that were easier than Herbology, nope. She was going to stay AWAKE in them. It was her goal not to get a second of sleep in any class except Muggle Studies this term. And so, when she walked into the DADA classroom and saw an unfamiliar man lying on the ground, she was pretty sure she wouldn't get a wink of shut-eye. "Hello, professor.. and other professor?" Who was HE? Was he immobilized? Could they draw on his face, too? Questions. The lioness had loads of them.

oh its Erik ok 01-14-2013 02:43 PM

Nigel walked in and raised a eyebrow at Professor Flamsteed laying on the ground. Nigel walked in a little too late to see how did this full body curse to him but he did hear Oakey say finite incantatum. But it did not do anything. Well Nigel will not worry. Professor Romanos will take care of it. But it looked like there will be two professor in this lesson.

"Hello, Professor Flamsteed and Hello, Professor Romanos"

FearlessLeader19 01-14-2013 03:00 PM

"Hi, good day, Professor,'' Jory said as soon as he entered the class. He was so pleased to be back. That's when he noticed the Astronomy Professor lying face down. "Er...hi Professor,'' he told the man. What was wrong with him?

Roselyn 01-14-2013 03:04 PM

There could've been a mild panic session when she first entered the room. Upon seeing the new Astronomy professor laying on the floor as such, wheels had been turning in her head! Of course, she checked to see if he was still breathing and to make sure he was actually okay. Not stunned. Wasn't cursed. Skin was still the same color. Breathing was good, despite his face being flat against the floor.

Though the little snort she heard after a moment of checking had her almost rolling her eyes. Almost. She smiled in amusement instead, feeling quite relieved that he was alright. Fine then, Mr. Flamsteed, he could lay there as long as he wanted.

He was going to have a read mark on his chin, nose, and forehead once he finally decided to get up though.

Ahem, pay no mind to the Astronomy professor on the floor. He was alright. Though she was becoming a little uneasy about it. Did he have to do this on her very first lesson with the new students? They could get the wrong idea. "Hello, Miss Moran." Medea smiled warmly to the Ravenclaw first year, always having enjoyed introductions just before a lesson started. "It's a pleasure to meet you. I'm glad you're in my class."

A glance down to Mr. Class-Invader and Medea cleared her throat lightly. "Best to find a seat, Audrey. All the good ones vill be taken soon."

She supposed it was time to embrace the fact that there would be looks being received. Either that, or she could just levitate the man out of the room. Too comfortable right now though. They had new pillows? She kinda studied one before taking a seat beside Cassia and smiling at the girl. How were they gonna do yoga with this big pillow part in the way? Dora fiddled with the strap of her wand holster and waited for the lesson to begin.

Taking out his wand though not using it, the Slytherin looked relieved when told it wasn't the orb. A NAP? Seriously?! He was taking a NAP in the middle of the class. As Messer walked into DADA classroom, he saw Professor Romanos was sitting in lotus position "Hello, Professor. How's your summer?" he greeted the DADA Professor with a smile then his eyes went from Professor Romanos to another Professor who looked like he's hit by Full Body-Bind Curse? The figure on the floor look like the new Astronomy Professor but the fourth year wasn't so sure should he greet him or something? Maybe its best for him to greet the man later when he's awake for now he need to find himself a seat.

Sarah was excited for another Defene Against the Dark Arts lesson. She felt her satchel swinging against her side as she strode briskly over to the venue where the lesson would be held. When she arrived she took in the man lying on the ground.. Was he okay? Sarah walked closer - perhaps to see if he was breathing. He sure was and his breathing pattern showed that he was not asleep (being a drama queen herself she had long learnt of techniques. That was because it happened quite a few times that Sarah wanted to get out of her chore of clearing the dinner table by feigning sleep, after a failed attempt or two, she learnt that one had to breath in a pattern in order to be considered sleeping. So she would time each inhale and exhale to make sure they were all the same time). So shrugged, although a smile, similar to a smirk was on her face now and she looked around. Something was diffrent it was the mats... made it easier to sleep. "Good day professor...s" she said before taking a seat.

He couldn't place the difference in the classroom - the pillows - but he felt it. Something was weird and out of place. But it might just be him. And it was probably unimportant.

"Hi," Aidan greeted Romanos as he took a seat at the front. He was determined to actually somewhat properly perform a spell today. So he had to be keen and on his toes and in the front of the class. Yup.

Move man moooove!

Taking out his wand though not using it, the Slytherin looked relieved when told it wasn't the orb. A NAP? Seriously?! He was taking a NAP in the middle of the class. The Prefect just rolled his eyes and twirled his phoenix wand in his hand. "Well, if he's wise he should get up soon..." he grinned and looked at Oakey.

Oakey looked at Daichi curiously as the snake put on an act like he couldn't do a simple levitation charm. Oakey liked this and smiled right back to the Slytherin Duck Prefect. "Daichi really, you do not know the Levitation charm?!?!?"
Oakey did his best to hold in his laughter as the two of them put up an act."I believe the incantation is Bombarda Maxima!" Oakey twirled his wand in his fingers as well. You can say it with me, and we can move Professor Flamsteed Together!"

Melody skipped to the Defense against the Dark arts class. FINALLY! This was a class that was worth her time. Besides, Divination and Flying of course. This was going to be beyond exciting.

She got to the classroom. Yup. It was already exciting. She didn't get too far into the classroom. Something was going on. She watched from a safe distance, and hoped that everything was will be okay.

As Belle entered the class, she noticed the tiny desks and pillow matts. It looked kind of cool. Belle was excited to learn today. As Belle was making her way to her own desk, she noticed the professor. Belle smiled, "Good day Professor! How was your summer?"

After she said her greeting and then she took her seat and opened up her notebook ready to take some notes.

Rachel made her way to the DADA class, wondering what it would be like. As soon as she got there, she noticed some really tiny desks and pillow matts. Yes, pillow matts, can you believe?

As she entered the classroom, the girl saw a woman that should be her professor.

- Hello Professor Romanos! - she said, smiling - I'm Rachel Fletcher, first year - added her, still smiling.

Rachel then noticed another adult in the room, someone that couldn't be a student... the girl made her way to her seat, wondering who would that be.

Milton had learned not to be surprised when it came to Hogwarts. Because honestly, anything was possible, and if ANYBODY knew that... it was Milton. So, when he saw another professor face planted on the floor, it really didn't surprise him. Milton shook his head before giving Professor Romanos a "Hey," and a head nod before picking a mat and a mini desk on the left side of the room towards the back. He wasn't so fond of yoga when they started this, but the mats this time were pretty comfy.

And for anyone else that wants to say Hi :)

Dylan entered the lesson and he looked around, it always looked weird! With its tiny tables and its mats and all that, did no-one ever find this strange? Well he guessed the older ones were probably used to it by now, he then noticed some dude on the floor not moving. Dead Dude maybe? .. Professor Romanos.. what did you do to him? Ooo maybe they were going to use him as a practice person or something.. yeah! thats what it must be! "Hi Professor" he said walking over to a mat, and then looking at the professor on the floor "We going to practice spells on him.. or test out new spells?" he asked pointing at the professor, cause really it would be so cool to actually cast a spell on a living body. He sat down cross legged, there was no way that he was going to sit like the professor! He couldnt even do that position, so he just sat there as normal and waited for the class to start.

Luna004 01-14-2013 09:13 PM

Sue entered the DADA class and the first thing she noticed was that there were no desk...well no regular sized desk anyway. The professor seemed to be sitting on a mat of some sort...then she realized that every mat had a desk to it. Sue figured this was how they were going to sit, she wondered if they would sit like this the whole semester..hmmm.

"Good morning professor...I like the seating arrangements." Sue smiled at the professor while she introduced herself. "I'm Susan, it's wonderful to meet you." Actually Sue was enjoying meeting all her professors...everyone was awesome here.

Sue took a seat close to the front and kept her smile plastered to her face...this is going to be fun.

Professor Romanos & mention of flat Flamsteed

Feeling rather eager for class today, as well as just right happy, came Violet happily strolling into the classroom. For some reason, she was feeling good..like more than usual, but she couldn't exactly pinpoint what it was exactly that was making her feel this way. Maybe it was because Quidditch tryouts were currently going on, and she couldn't wait to attend them? Hmm..maybe.. Maybe she couldn't wait for DADA...you know..Violet decided just not to question it and just go along with it for now.

She took a glance around the room for a moment and then smiled happily seeing Professor Romanos sitting in the Lotus position and she bowed her head politely saying,"Good Professor how was you su-" she stopped mid-sentence seeing another Professor lying face down on the floor and she gasped placing her hand over her chest. She looked at Professor Romanos saying a little frantically,"I-is he alright Professor?! Shall I go and get the Nurse?!"

Bombarda maxima?! Oh maaan, Daichi liked Oakey. Yup.

The Slytherin was a little afraid at first that the Hufflepuff Prefect couldn't catch up to his fake play but it seemed that he got what he was doing and he just grinned at him. "Oh right, Bombarda maxima, i ALWAYS forget that!" he said with a louder voice than normal, trying to hold in his laughter. "Professor Romanos? Is it okay if Oakey and i LEVITATE Professor Flamsteed to the side. We both know the BOMBARDA MAXIMA spell...you know, the levitating spell cause we can't carry him with our hands."

Peyton skipped to Defense Against the Dark Arts, her ponytail pouncing off her back. She had just had her daily dose of raspberry vanilla ice cream and had been recharged for her next lesson. As she entered the classroom she saw a huddle at the front. What was going?

Her curiosity won and she wandered over. "Hello Professor, Romanos," she greeted. Yes, this redhead had memorized all of her professors' names, though faces she didn't know. She matched them to their respective class.

Then she saw the man on the floor. Erm. Had they already started jinxing people and she missed it? That was no faiiiiiiiir! Could she give it a go, too? She'd have to practice first. Meeeh.

She decided that for today she'd sit in the center. The front seemed a bit too risky. She'd just use the person in front of her as a shield if it came down to that.

Team ronmione 01-14-2013 09:55 PM

As Tag walked into the room he noticed that the seating looked very comfortable. He knew two things would happen, just by the pillow chair, he would either sleep or he would sleep. Why would someone put pillows in the room, during class, if it weren't meant for sleeping? So, if he did, he should not be guilty, it would be, after all, on the professors behalf for making everything look so cozy. Tag nodded quickly at the professor and said "Hello Professor. If I fall asleep please forgive me, for these pillows look far too comfortable." Just a warning. Though he'd do his best not to fall asleep. "Just kidding, professor." he added cautiously.

"I spy with my blue eyes, RED!." Seth chimed, as he spotted his number one target. "You're on a roll! Are you being paid, to attend class?" he always had a snarky comment for the young, Snake.

Lucky for Peyton, he found a spot right next to her! xD

Laura walked into the DADA classroom and smiled, she had already got a few points, but she needed to get more and so she knew she would have to do extremely well in this class if she was going to reach her target of points for this term, she smiled as she looked at the Professor. "Good day Professor." Laura couldn't wait for this lesson to start, okay so maybe this lesson was growing on her though she wouldn't let anyone know that.

Messy and Professors!

Ella BOUNCED into DADA, excited for another term of classes. Next to Care of Magical Creatures, this class was her favorite and she was eager to learn everything there was to learn, well except for all the Yoga business. Yup, she could do without that part. The fifteen year old smiled as she entered the room, giving the professor a little wave. "Hello Professor, cool mats." They looked much more comfy than the old ones! Oh...and there was another Professor-y looking dude here as well? ...And he appeared to be...frozen? Um..."Erm is he alright, Professor?" Blink. He wasn't like dead, was he? >.<

Spotting Messer, Ella headed over and took a seat beside him, a small smile on her face. "Hey Uncle Messy!" BEAM.

OMG all of you guys *giggles*

Light as a feather stiff as a board...or, well, just the latter really since that other bit wasn't included in the muggle trend that Airey was showcasing at the moment. So, still as a board - or plank rather - it was for now. And these students? HILARIOUS! Minus the one who kicked him with their toe? Did they NOT read his rules about NOT touching the suit?! Or had they assumed that that meant with their hands and feet and SHOES were alright? Did they not realize there their shoes had been?! What if they had just come from Care of Magical Creatures and now he had hippogrif dung all over his freshly pressed suit?!

He was just about to launch into full panic mode when he heard Daichi and Oakey talking about using...wait, WHAT SPELL? Hah, funny. Clearly Medea had put them up to this to try and make him move from his planking position. Well, guess what Professor Crazy Cat Lady?! Challenge accepted!

So, Airey remained right where he was. Face first into the floor and still not moving but with the slightest of smirks on his lips for anyone who was observant enough to notice.

*claims Tag* ^_^

He refused to be late to ANOTHER lesson.

And yet he nearly was.

Alec ran towards the Defence class with the thoughts of flying in his mind. If he could FLY to the lesson, he wouldn't be LATE. Problem solved. He skidded to a halt right outside the classroom and peeked in. Oh... awesome. So he wasn't late, right? Hopefully not. He didn't really want to walk in late to this lesson.

So he readjusted the strap of his bag and walked into the classroom. "Hello Professor...s," There were... two in here? Double class? Or... not? Whatever the situation was, both of the Professors received a grin from the Hufflepuff. And someone else who got a grin? TAG "SWEETCHEEKS" KILDARE. The fourth year hurried over towards his Gryffindor brother/friend/pizzaandpastalover, not taking in anything else that was in the classroom. Because TAG was here.

"Hey!" he whispered, placing his bag on the floor and plopping himself down on the... OH! They had new seats? Alec turned a little in his seat and touched the back of his seat. Oh... hey! This was awesome! And, turning back around, they had... desks? BLINK. So there wasn't going to be anymore yoga or...?

Cassirin 01-15-2013 12:46 AM

Mo was surprised by the fact that they had pillows on the floor instead of desks or the dreaded yoga mats that were on his list. He was surprised that the Defense professor was properly pretty and had an accent and nice eyes and didn't look like she might eat them.

He was mostly surprised that there was a professor person prone in the middle of the room. Not 'cause it was a professor, but because there were students who seemed inclined to cast spells at him and try to move him. If Professor Whatever-Defense-Face-Her-Person wasn't worried about the guy on the floor, then why was anyone else? He couldn't be injured or bespelled, unless the professor was cruel and wanted him out as a punchline...

Easy enough way to test that theory. "No, don't pour out your ink on him like that. You'll ruin his nice suit," Mo called rather loudly as he passed the man on the floor and headed for his desk.

"Good morning, Miss Morislava." she greeted warmly in return.

Maybe its best for him to greet the man later when he's awake for now he need to find himself a seat.

"Good..." Oh? Medea chuckled lightly when she heard the delayed added "s" sound at the end of the girl's sentence. "Good morning, Miss Edvards."

Mmmhmmm...

With all this talk about levitation spells and bombarding spells, perhaps it was wise for their Astronomy professor to move. Either that or she could take the more obvious route and put an end to it, no matter how amusing it was. "Vell, vith two Prefects such as yourselves..." Emphasis on the prefects, and an eyebrow raise. They did remember their actions were being watched by the younger students, right? "...I'm sure you're fully capable of levitating Professor Flamsteed...vith the obviously correct incantation of Bombarda Maxima."

She eyed the Astronomy professor for a split moment. Movement? Yes? No?

"Though I think ve'll keep him here just for the time being, if you don't mind, you two."

She supposed it was time. Time to start checking her watch to see what time it was. Oh, they had a few minutes left for stragglers. It was early morning, the least she could do was give them a moment. "Good morning, Mister Summers."

Easy enough way to test that theory. "No, don't pour out your ink on him like that. You'll ruin his nice suit," Mo called rather loudly as he passed the man on the floor and headed for his desk.

...

Medea could not have held in her laugh to save her life.

She hadn't seen the man's obsession with his suits first hand as of yet, but she'd heard things. Things. Plus with the link rollers and apparent dislike for cat fur...and cats in general, that little comment was too much.

Defense Against the Dark Arts was next and first time Nina was excited to actually go to class. Stepping into the room she noticed few things, first there were no desks except a little ones and there were pillows too but what caught her attention most was the man on the floor. What was he doing? Nina stared at him. Weird.

But she recognized him.

He was Flamsteed, she remembered meeting him at the kitchens. Anyways, she looked at Romanos and greeted "Hello professor" and with that she went to find a comfy seat.

As Alyssa watched the other students especially Daichi and Oakey discuss ways to wake up the Professor-who-likes-to-lie-on-the mat, she realized that Professor Romanos was deliberately ignoring him, which made her suspect that there was a prank being played...only who on whom.

She almost burst out laughing when she heard what the young Ravenclaw, Mo, said. She knew that he was trying to get a reaction from the Professor, so she added her two knuts worth. "Hey if you want to use water, at least warm it up first. Brrr....That looks cold...and what's inside the bucket? Are those duck feathers?" she called out rather loudly.

DADA was always an interesting class, in Kendall’s opinion. Especially now, when there was the possibility of learning more spells that could be used in battles later on, although she’d never tell Professor Romanos that. Something told her that the lessons really were supposed to be more theoretical right now, not for them to be going in already planning on having to use them sometime. In any case, she was even okay with doing yoga again, as long as people didn’t crack again. That had been scary, even though Beezus had been fine, and the lessons that had been after that had gone okay too. It didn’t look like they were going to be climbing walls again, at least, as she’d stepped into the room only to see the yoga mats and tiny desks back in place. Except for a couple differences, namely the little pillow things attached to the mats now. That and the professor lying face-down on the floor in front of Professor Romanos, but she decided to ignore him for now. She didn’t see any cats around, so she figured Professor Flamsteed was fine.

Well, he’d be fine if the prefects didn’t cast Bombarda Maxima on him, but that was between him, the prefects and Professor Romanos. “Hi Professor Romanos!,” she said to the DADA professor, carefully stepping over the other professor on the floor on her way toward an open mat. She didn’t think he’d appreciate a boot in the side or anything, and as far as she could tell, she managed to get past with no incidents. Therefore, she settled onto her chosen mat, sliding her bag underneath the little desk thing as she leaned back onto the pillow a little. She might as well be comfortable before the lesson began, and she found herself watching the stiff Astronomy professor for reactions. There was probably going to be some reaction if the DADA professor allowed the spells to be cast, at the very least. She wasn’t about to miss that.

AlwaysSnapesGirl 01-15-2013 01:54 AM

Defense. One of the classes Penelope really needed to start focusing hard in. Hopefully they'd be learning some really cool and/or easy spells today. That would be a good motivator to start with, if they were easy to cast. She could only hope.

Those pillow mat things looked pretty comfortable too. Another motivator maybe? Work hard, and maybe they'd continue to have these in the rest of the lessons. That would be good.

But...why was there another professor lying there face down on the ground? Was he trying to be one of the pillow mats? Was this part of the lesson? Hmm...

"Hi, Professor," Penelope greeted Professor Romanos before glancing at one of the pillow mats and then at the professor on the floor. "Can I sit on him instead?" Because if he was trying to be like the mats, she should test if he was comfortable like they were, right? Made sense to her.

TeafortheSoul 01-15-2013 02:00 AM

Well actually West didn't notice anything weird at all when he walked in. Sure he saw that one new professor... but oh well. He chose a cushion and left a few empty around him so cool people could sit with him. That was how it was done after all.

Oh and, "Hi professor Romanos." West said casually.

No bouncing today.

Horror. Sheer. Bloody. Horror.

Kanna was almost late for Defense Against the Dark Arts, and, upon arriving, was sad for that. Kanna bid Professor Romanos a good afternoon upon entering, and as she moved to her desk, eyed Professor Space uneasily. Didn't he know that planking could set wrinkles in his suit? Of course he did. But it was talk of what the other students were suggesting to do that made her uneasy for the fate of her newfound friend... er... professor.

Nevertheless, she knew... or at least hoped, that the Astronomy professor had his wits about him, and so, as she crossed to her desk on the right side of the classroom, she had to acknowledge him. But what to say... She quickly filed through her list of potential witty comments, and rested on "I didn't know you admired the color purple so much, Professor."

Seriously. What was wrong with purple?

Kanna adjusted her shiny Ravenclaw tie as she sat down and pulled out her class materials, and as she tucked her bag under her chair, she chuckled very quietly at Professor Space's antics. What was he up to...?

Lissy Longbottom 01-15-2013 03:01 AM

Alex always walked in to Defense Against the Dark Arts hoping that he found yoga mats ready for them. Yoga was SOOO relaxing and actually made him concentrate. Plus, his muscles were so stiff, he needed to work on his flexibility!

Well, there were mats but they didn't look like YOGA mats. SO yeah. Alex took a seat near the middle of the classroom and blinked. Man that was a LOT of purple...

DaniDiNardo 01-15-2013 03:12 AM

There was no dragging her feet as she headed to her next class of the day. Nope. That was reserved for those subjects that didn't even deserved to be named.

OhLookit!

There was cushion-y stuff now!...And Professor Flamsteed...okay then. She wouldn't exactly question it, everything usually had an explanation so she'd just wait for this one. In the mean time. "Hello Professor!" She said, beaming over at her DADA Professor. The woman was already getting into that yoga stuff...it was kinda expected. "And Hello Professor Flamsteed, are you here to learn about protecting yourself from the dark arts too?" If he needed a lesson then she didn't think she felt very safe knowing he was one of the people in charge of her safety.

Mad Eye Touz 01-15-2013 03:42 AM

Aspen mostly always enjoyed DADA. She had her issues with it, but for the most part - she was game. But TODAY - for the first time ever - she immediately lit up like a lighthouse upon entering.

DEAD BODY. THEY WERE GOING TO LOOK AT A DEAD BODY. AND THAT WAS SO DEAD USEFUL!

She was even going to sit up CLOSE and FRONT and offer to HELP!

... so imagine her disappointment when those two idiot Prefects (further weakening Aspen's opinion of authority) started making a mockery of it? She fell even further into a spiral of sad when she noted the not-so-corpse smile a little (though she still hoped it was just a nerve twitching...).

And all good was dashed when the Professor assured another student he was fine.

Sigh.

.....

SIGH.

If he wasn't dead, then Aspen didn't want to sit near him. If he wasnt' dead then he was just being foolish and attention seeking, no different from those awful Prefects. Aspen retreated to the back of the room, where she planned to remain for the whole of class. Hopefully, she wouldn't try and slay those stupid Prefects.

"He is fine, Violet. I'm quite certain of it." she said in a calming tone, though her warm smile did slowly start to reappear. "Please, take a seat. Relax. How vos your summer?"

With her hand still upon her chest she looked worriedly from Professor Romanos to the Professor on the floor and she asked again a little less frantic,"A-are you sure?" When the Professor went to tell her to take a seat and relax, Violet paused looking down at the Professor on the floor for a moment, bringing her finger up to her lips and biting on it briefly, I suppose from being nervous, but then she nodded and then began making her way towards a mat on the floor.

When she sat down she got herself settled and then went onto to answer the Professor's next question,"It was quite enjoyable if I must say.." She smiled a little bit and then asked."Did you enjoy your summer, Professor?" Her violet eyes slowly began trailing down at the Professor on the floor once more, but only for a brief moment. Then they went back to Professor Romanos as she waited patiently for her to answer her.

<snip>

Honestly, Medea herself didn't know how she kept the laughter in. Her shoulders shook though. The surprise on the young lady's face was a little too much. Oh, erm....pardon?

"No, no, Miss Llywelyn." Goodness, some of these kid's last names were a mouthful. "There vill no be sacrificing in this class." Or school for that matter.

The man isnt there for some kind of sacrificial ritual? The youngun tilted her blond curly head quizzically as she looked back at the man on the floor. She didnt know what to make of him there... maybe this was something men usually do? She wouldnt know for certain, being raised by Priestesses, so this will definitely go into her scrapbook. Wizards are trouble AND prone to face-planking yup.

Corin turned quietly down the corridor towards the DADA classroom. It was strange how the familiarity of navigating the school hasnt really left him after all these years, although he might be a little foggy with some of the secret passages he had discovered that wasnt even in the history books. He had a map of the school.... where did that go?

His thoughts drifted momentarily to his nephew ransacking through his old things in the attic when he stopped short just beside the doorway. There was a crowd of students milling about the Defense Instructor. Although she looked to be ok-- exchanging snippets of conversation with some of the students. It was when he shifted his piercing blue gaze towards the ground did his brows crease up-- there was a man on the floor... and judging by the suit (as he seems to be the only one fastidious enough to wear it everyday)-- the Astronomy Professor?

He set himself aside against the wall, in case this was a teaching method of hers and he didnt want to interrupt that. Pleasantries can be for later, although he did try to catch the eye of the brunette woman, giving her a searching look if everything indeed was ok?.... or should he step in and try to help the other Professor too stiff to have fallen unconscious?

Tazzie 01-15-2013 03:56 AM

She was such in a good mood. Totally in an undoubtedly very good mood. Why though, she didn't know. But that wasn't something one should ponder hard upon, no? At least it wasn't the opposite. Granted, with the atmosphere her head was currently swirling on, she was all smiles as she entered the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom.

....New mats?

Oh. Why, it looked as though someone's paying their lovely Professor a visit. Hmm. "Hello Professor Flamsteed!" Beezus greeted the man with a slight nod. "And good day Professor Romanos." Will they be holding the class together? Or did the Astronomy Professor just want to watch and satisfy himself with Romanos' face. Gigglesnort.

Also...

Something might have occurred here before she arrived. Wonder what that could be.....

snitchrose 01-15-2013 05:27 AM

Augusta walked in and sat down cross legged on a mat. 'OMG I love yoga' she thought to herself.

"Hello Professor." she said enthusiastically with an American accent "I'm Augusta Yvette le Blanc de la Valliere." She always got a look when she introduced herself, but it was a noble's namesake so what could she do? "Please just call me Augusta."

RandomRaven 01-15-2013 05:38 AM

Good to know that he wasn't late.

Because that's not funny if a Head Boy came late, right? Gary still tried to be a good Head Boy even himself still refused this. He walked entering the classroom and stared... Heh? What's wrong with the new Astronomy Professor? Did he eat too much cat food at the feast?

He tried to hide his surprised expression and noticed that Professor Romanos was there, still in her yoga position. "Hello, Professor Romanos." said him politely. Then he took a seat at the corner and tried not to laugh.

Holmesian Feline 01-15-2013 05:41 AM

Defense against the Dark Arts was the latest class on her schedule. However it was one of the lessons Ellura was unsure about seeing as it was one of the more magically inclusive topics like charms and transfiguration. So she felt she had a disadvantage having not been surrounded by parents and family doing similar spells in front of her growing up. Her grandfather had taught her a few things but she was likely still a year behind students her same age.

Making her way to the classroom, the first thing that she noticed was how different the room was set up from the rest of the areas she had been in so far. Mats and cushions and smalll desks denoted each space rather then table and chair. What WOULD they be doing today? Something normally done it appeared since most of her fellow students entered and took a seat without much qualm to anything. So Ellura opted to follow suit, spotting both defense professor and another adult near the front of the space.

"Hello Professor....Professors," she greeted politely and correcting herself when she identified the laying man as another professor. The Gryffindor then moved to find and empty mat and took a seat down upon it.

Peyton had tilted her head to the side at the professor's pause, and was about to stick her bottom lip out when Professor Romanos said her name. Phew. She remembered it and Peyton grinned. When people didn't remember her name, Peyton grew sad. So far that hasn't happened. But there was always that suspenseful moment when she thought they'd forget her name.

As Nerida arrived she took a sigh of relief..It was nice to know she was not late...She hated being late.. Seeing Professor Flamsteed on the ground, she asked "Is Professor Flamsteed all right?" Was it okay that she kinda wanted to prod him with a stick to see if he was okay. Hearing some of her classmates joke about pouring stuff on his suits...

She wondered if he would stay on the ground when he heared those. She smiled over at Professor Romanos and said "Hello Professor Romanos, hope you had a great summer." She looked down at Professor Flamsteed and said to him as well "Hello Professor Flamsteed, I hope the same for you as well." After saying hello to both of the Professors, she found a free mat in the front and took a seat on it.

Oh Dora! Cassia grinned at her friend, who was curious about the pillows. Which was natural, Ravenclaws were most of the time curious. Especially Dora, so seeing her inspect stuff was so normal. Following suit Cassia reached for her wand in the new holster and waved it with smile. Mhmm..She had bought a new holster like Dora recommended her to do so. So now she was safe and wasn't likely to break her wand. All good.

"And Hello Professor Flamsteed, are you here to learn about protecting yourself from the dark arts too?" If he needed a lesson then she didn't think she felt very safe knowing he was one of the people in charge of her safety.

"Good morning, Miss Cambridge." Oh, what a good question for their guest. Yes, was he here to learn too?

When she sat down she got herself settled and then went onto to answer the Professor's next question,"It was quite enjoyable if I must say.." She smiled a little bit and then asked."Did you enjoy your summer, Professor?" Her violet eyes slowly began trailing down at the Professor on the floor once more, but only for a brief moment. Then they went back to Professor Romanos as she waited patiently for her to answer her.

"Quite positive." You know, it would be mighty welcoming if Airey twitched or something, to show that he was indeed alright. And not twitch in the way where it looked like he wasn't alright. Alas, Violet seemed to calm down a bit. "How vonderful." She said in reply to the girl's summer. "I did, yes. It was rather relaxing."

She was expecting students, not adults, but than again, with the surprise of Airey showing up...doing whatever it was he was doing, this man shouldn't have been any different. Although, if she remembered correctly, she'd seen him at the opening feast, sitting at the board of governors table. His name however, had slipped her.

Well, if he wanted to join her lesson, that was fine with her!

Medea caught the look. She smiled with a shake of her head, mouthing 'He's fine'.

Glancing down to her watch, she frowned and tapped the glass. Ahem, had the time gone by that fast already? Oh! "Good morning, Prefect Castell." Her smile brightened a little more. "Congratulations."

Oh, what a mouthful of a name. And accent? Didn't have too many of those around here. Honestly though, Medea was a little glad that the young Hufflepuff said to call her just Augusta. "It's nice to meet you, Augusta." she smiled, glancing down to her watch again. Yup, it was indeed that time. "Why don't you take a seat? Ve'll be starting soon."

He tried to hide his surprised expression and noticed that Professor Romanos was there, still in her yoga position. "Hello, Professor Romanos." said him politely. Then he took a seat at the corner and tried not to laugh.

One of the remaining badge students to show up. "Good morning, Mister Rush." she smiled with the usual warm and welcoming smile she had during the beginnings of her lessons. "Congratulations on Head Boy."

Oh, another new student. Medea had to try and remember the girl's name for a moment. Names were fine. Names to faces however...a little more difficult. "Good morning." she smiled, deciding that she'd catch the name of the girl later.

Was it okay that she kinda wanted to prod him with a stick to see if he was okay.

One more glance to her watch. It was about time they started.

"Good morning, Miss Eventide." she smiled towards the Ravenclaw, adjusting her position on the mat to become a little more comfortable. "I did haff a good summer, yes." Although the question to be returned wasn't going to happen. Class had to start.

Taking out her wand, she waved it towards the arena doors. They slowly closed shut. Any stragglers, she would know. Taking a deep breath, she cleared her throat quietly. Time to switch accents and talk normally. Well, as normally as she could for the students to understand. She was getting better! Honest!

"Alright, it's about time for us to start." she spoke up, waiting for the talking students to hush down. "I hope you all had a good summer. Today will be more theoretical based than practical to wake up those sleepy minds of yours." Ahem, they fall asleep on these pillows, they were going to have a cold wake up call. "We'll be covering a topic that we have gotten to in the past with spell practice, but never really talked about." Pausing for a moment, she sighed as her gaze unwillingly landed on the Astronomy Professor.

"We do have a guest with us today. You may recognize him as your Astronomy professor; Professor Flamsteed. He's...erm..." Just WHAT was he doing!? She bit the inside of her cheek, trying to figure that out. Invading her lesson, that's what he was doing. With a flick of her wand, a chalk board in the corner of the arena rolled it's way to the front of the class and stopped behind her. The chalk on the board floated up, beginning to write seven letters:

DUELING

"Can anyone tell me the definition of this word?" Just ignore Professor Flamsteed for the time being.

TakemetotheBurrow 01-15-2013 02:17 PM

Dueling? As in....DUELING? Ella's eyes lit up a little and she glanced over at Messy with a half-smile on her face. He'd be her partner if they were doing this, yeah? Heh.

Raising her hand, the blonde waited to be called on. "Professor, dueling is when two people have an arranged fight with the same erm...weapon and rules. So here we'd use wands...obviously." Shuffle. Maybe that last part had been a bit obvious but still.

Saz Hale 01-15-2013 02:25 PM

Christmas thought and raised her hand and said "Dueling is when two people arrange to battle each other through the same weapons and rules and try there best to win"

"Err, thank you Professor." The brunette bowed slightly as she grinned at the woman. She wasn't too fond of being called the title but hearing it from important people from time to time alleviated the stress she was getting from her duty. With a nod, she proceeded to a vacant mat and waited for class to begin.

.....

And then they were starting. She noticed the Professor's accent had gone better over the summer, or was that just because she was growing fond of the woman even though their lessons always made her body sore?

Beezus nodded as Professor Romanos said they'll be working more on practical this time. So, they'd actually be practicing spells that can counter dark magic? And then practice and duel? Yeah? Most likely, right? And she had guessed correctly because as soon as letters appeared on the board, the word she'd been thinking earlier was formed.

Dueling.

Hand up. "Professor, dueling is a confrontation between two or more persons in an attempt to disarm, injure, or kill each other with the use of a certain set of rules and customs and the same article of weaponry in order to force submission." Were they really going to duel duel duel? She wanted to go against Mordred!

Weasley174 01-15-2013 02:38 PM

Laura smiled at the Professor as she raised her hand a question she could answer. "Professor dueling is where two or more people get annoyed with each other, maybe over something stupid like an animal or maybe other something serious like a boy or a girl if your a boy." Laura was a bit confused there. "Anyway the people who are dueling want to fight over the said boy so they try and hurt each other, or kill each other, or in some cases just embarrass them."

So, Airey remained right where he was. Face first into the floor and still not moving but with the slightest of smirks on his lips for anyone who was observant enough to notice.

Of course, Daichi would never use such a dangerous spell on a person. He was just trying to scare the man in to getting up because all the other attempts from students and even the Professor had failed.

His father used this tactic on him occasionally when he didn't want to get up in the morning and it was Always pretty effective to the Slytherin. But it seemed that the Astronomy Professor didn't care to be ..exploded... eh?

Wait, maybe there IS something wrong with him?!

Leave him there? okay~ "If you need any help Professor, Oakey and I can help move him" he smiled before he holstered his wand back in his wrist holster and sat down.

His brown eyes were still trained on Professor Flamsteed with a hint of concern now when a movement caught his attention. He turned his gaze away when a blackboard rolled to the front of the room.

Dueling?

eeeeh.... Daichi suddenly shifted a little uneasily where he was seated. He was never a star in dueling and if they had to duel he was afraid he would have to set an example now that he was a Prefect. Oh great.... Better answer the question first. "Professor Romanos, dueling is a formal fight between two people...most of the time" he answered after he had raised his hand.

Govoni 01-15-2013 03:16 PM

Dylan had arrived and was judging people...as per usual. He couldn't be bothered with trying to figure out the crazy antics of his Professors...or those of his co-Leaders. Just couldn't do it.

Not that he didn't love Professor Romanoes. She was a cool lady.

...but WHO was this new Professor? He was...in a suit...and quirky. Dylan needed to investigate.

Class was starting for now, though...

What was Dueling...?

"It's.....a verb?" BEAMS. "...It's basically combat between two or more people...with some type of weapon involved. Wands, swords...." He shrugged.

RandomRaven 01-15-2013 03:32 PM

He just smiled when she congratulated him for the Head Boy badge. "Thank you, Professor." He waited until the class officially started even himself still wondered how could the Astronomy Professor was here. Maybe Romanos had invited him to do the demonstration. Maybe..

Okay, let's just ignore him and move to the lesson. Dueling? So, today they would learn about duelling? Sounded... cool. "We can say dueling as a formal fight since they have rules and manner." he spoke after raising his hand.

FireboltAvis88 01-15-2013 03:34 PM

Alyssa smiled as Professor started her class.

'Here we go.' Alyssa though to herself as she heard the question, listened to her fellow students give their answers before she raised hers.

"Professor dueling is a formal way of fighting using weapons in order to settle ones honor."

TeafortheSoul 01-15-2013 03:49 PM

Did that mean NO MORE YOGA? West perked up and threw his hand up so hard that it was a wonder he didn't dislocate his shoulder.

"Duelling, its from Medieval Latin duellum which originally meant 'war' and grew to mean 'combat between two persons' AND," West paused "That changed to be Bellum in Latin, which also means war and is where we get words like Bellicose and Belligerent, which makes sense on account of usually people what get into duels are feeling a bit belligerent, professor." Paaaaause, "Except where its duelling pianos. I seen that at a restaurant place that my dad took me and Aspen one time." That was cool too.

Kimothy 01-15-2013 04:02 PM

Ignore Professor Flamsteed. Not a problem at all. Let the man enjoy while he has the time of his life, planking on the floor.

... *IGNORE*

Kat watched as Professor Romanos' piece of chalk wrote stuff on the board. The blonde squinted at the board before finally deciphering what was written. DUELING. Immediately, a grin grew on Kat's face. Were they going to DUEL again? Just like during her first year? Where that girl she remembered, named Jesifur, cast the Sneezing spell on her. Bad memories, yes... but WHO CARES? Let's make better memories and make time worth it.

Oh right. The question needed an answer first. Kat raised her hand up. "Professor, I agree with the others that dueling is when two wizards or witches face each other and use magical means of combat," she said. "In addition, there's the formal duel and the... informal duel, where they don't bow before the duel begins." Uhm, that was okay. I think.

Uncle Moose 01-15-2013 04:08 PM

Oakey pouted as Professor Romanos had not caught on to his and Daichi's act to scare the Professor up. She did have point though that they needed to act more responisibly, but even Prefects should have fun. They weren't really going to explode the Astronomy Professor. "We won't touch him, unless instructed." Oakey nodded to Daichi who said they would be more than willing to help the Professor get him out of the way if she needed it.

Oakey took a seat back down onto his pillowmat and listened as Romanos began her lesson. They were gonna duel today, soon, at some point this term...maybe! SO COOL!!! Oakey quickly answered the DADA Professor's question. "Dueling is a an agreed upon fight between two people to settle a matter. Duels usually have a set of rules that both parties need to abide by before the fight begins."
He finished answering her question and moved his eyes to the Astronomy professor for any kind of movement.

So were they just going to let the Astronomy professor chill right there on the ground?

... Okay, fine, but if he tripped her on the way out or something, it was on. Just on.

Sierra drew her attention back to Romanos then raised her hand in the air. "Dueling is when two people face off against one another. They use whatever resource they can to defend themselves and overcome their opponent," she said. "They can use things like spells or...anything around them really to try and reach the goal of the duel."

Hey, professor, can I shoot a couple of spells at the Astronomy professor?! PLEASEEEE!

oh its Erik ok 01-15-2013 05:35 PM

Maybe they would be practicing Dueling today. That would be pretty awesome. Nigel was impressed that the new astronomy professor was still laying on the ground even after Oakey and the slytherin prefect tried to "levitate" him. Nigel hoped Professor Romanos will do something funny to him before class was over.

"A Duel is a agreed fight between two people and the fight has rules"

Nigel wondered if there were two versus two duels. Now that would be awesome.

Belle was glad the professor had an amazing summer. "I had a wonderful summer professor, i was kept very busy that is for sure." she smiled at her.

Then Belle saw the professor looked uncomfortable with another professor in the room. When class started she felt the tension. Then she looked at the board and saw the word Dueling....

Hmmm what is dueling..? Belle remember doing it in DADA in previous classes previous years. She was quite good at it but to get the task into definition form was hard. Belle was forming the right words before she spoke. Once she got it, she raised her hand...

"Professor, Dueling comes from the latin word Duellem which means war. Dueling is when two people come together for some type of combat training."

Luna004 01-15-2013 06:00 PM

Susan looked up at the board as the letters started to make a word. Dueling? Like actual dueling? Didn't the muggles do that with guns and all kind of rules? Sue had never seen wizards duel but she knew the main concept, instead of guns you used wands.

Sue raised her hand and answered the professors question "Dueling is when two people agree to fight with certain rules to follow." Sue always thought dueling was kind of silly...who wanted agreed on terms before they started fighting..it seemed weird. Maybe the professor could shed some light on the topic.

Sues eyes then slid over to the professor lying on the floor. What was wrong with him...why was he still just lying there? Sue hoped he didn't trip and hit his head...but he probably wouldn't look as stiff as a board if he was knocked unconscious. Hmmm...curious. If he didn't get up by the time class ended Sue would make sure he was at least still breathing. Wonder why the DADA professor isn't worried?

Poolicious 01-15-2013 06:24 PM

Messer smiled when he saw Ella was sitting next to him, as long as the girl keep her wand to herself he's good, right? Messer's eyes went from Ella to Professor Romanos as she began the lesson.

Wait, WHAT?! Dueling? After the Professor mentioned that, the fourth year could feel Ella's smile without turning his gaze toward the girl. Was this mean they would practice dueling after this? And Ella would be his partner? Yes, he would end up flying across the room again today.

Oh yes, Romanos's question. Hand up. "Dueling is a combat or a fight between two people using matched weapons accordance with rules that have been agreed upon."

pundantic 01-15-2013 06:29 PM

Okay, Selina understood ONE person using Latin. That made sense. It was not completely bonkers that one person would use Latin and be knowledgable about the roots of the word... but as soon as a ton of people started using Latin the redhead could have broken out Mortimer with no regret. Not EVERYONE in the room had swallowed a bloody dictionary. People just did NOT have the time to know that much. Honestly, people were copying the first Latin users answer. Although, Selina had no idea why she was so upset. Maybe it was because she was a rather passionate Latin lover herself. Hmph.

ANYWAY, let people copy others answers. Whatever.

Moving on from the Latin issue, she collected herself and raised her hand to answer, "Dueling, ma'am, is basically a fight. Its more civilized and socially acceptable then what most people would consider fighting, but its a fight." AND AN AWESOME ONE AT THAT. Selina played Quidditch. A bit of violence was always welcomed.

FearlessLeader19 01-15-2013 06:30 PM

Jory looked at the word on the board. They would be dueling? How cool was that! He thought of his answer to the question, putting the words together so they made sense.

He raised his hand. "Dueling is an arranged er... contest.'' Was it a contest? He couldn't think of a better word to put there. "It's where participants agree on certain rules and battle each other to determine a winner.''

itsgaallopes 01-15-2013 06:41 PM

Rachel payed attention to the Professor as she started the class. The girl raised her hand to answer the question.

- Dueling is a fight between two people. - said the Ravenclaw - In our world dueling is most of all a wand fight, and we use several spells to deffend ourselves and overcome our opponent.

HaRoHeGiNeLu 01-15-2013 06:44 PM

DUELING! Why was this a theoreticaly lesson, then? He wanted to ACTUALLY duel! ...Even though he'd probably be terrible at it since actually casting spells...was still hard for him.

BUT DEULING!

"That's when you fight with MAGIC!!" Aidan chirped. Because fighting the muggle way..........was just 'fighting'.

Bazinga 01-15-2013 06:44 PM

Minerva watched and listened as others began to come into the class and ask about the other professor on the floor. It was just odd, was that how his classes were going to be as well....odd... Hmmm it might make going to the tower interesting though.

As class began Minerva sat quietly and was a little shocked at the word on the board. Dueling, would they actually be doing that this term. She knew they learned spells to do some things in the past, but actually dueling each other. That sounded a bit fun and scary at the same time. Putting her hand up Minerva answered, "Professor Dueling is when you go up against another wizard in a type of fighting match. It can either be a friendly duel like a classroom setting or competition, or it could be dueling ones enemy or a darker wizard."

Theo had been sat near to the back of the room for quite some time now. He wasn't socializing much, because he felt as if he really needed to buckle down with classes this term, particularly wand work. His eyes lingered on the odd Astronomy teacher for a while, but as soon as the topic of the day was written on the board, he was ready to learn stuff.

Dueling! OoooooOOOooooOOOOh.

"Dueling is like a wand battle." Theo said, lowering his hand as he finished. Were they gonna be learning some deuly spells? Were they? Were they? Weeeeeeeeeeeere they?

Melody finally stepped to the front of the class now that it seemed safe. Just like Professor in front of her she too ignored Professor Flamsteed. DULLING! Cool, look like they would be dulling today or soon. Hopefully, today.

"If I may, Professor, Dulling is a fighting match between two people. There are certain rules they have to agree to and follow by. It can be either by death or something more friendly. In the magic world we duel with magic, however I know non magic folks have other forms of dueling, like fencing. The tool they use is some sort of thin sticks made out of metal." Melody had actually seen some fencing before. It was pretty entertaining coming from muggles.

Princesspower 01-15-2013 08:02 PM

Sarah raised her hand they were finally be doing dueling. She loved to duel, although it was a bit nervewracking."A duel is when 2 or more wizards or witches meet and attempt to disarm, injure or even in more serious cases kill each other solely through magical means.". Sarah fingered her wand in the holster, she was a peaceful person, yet she wanted to practice dueling in order to be prepared in case she needed to duel a serious duel.

Mad Eye Touz 01-15-2013 08:18 PM

Theory based? More theory based? Aspen's disappointment quadrupled. She didn't want to talk about dueling - DOING was so much more effective as a way of learning. And if some of Aspen's peers needed anything - it was more learning.

...

Theory based. Pah.

Aspen had a theory about theory based classes. She was, of course, silent. West had already answered best anyway. So, while the rest of the class went on and on, trying to one up each other in best answer category, she pondered Flamsteed. She'd gotten away with setting one person on fire in this class... could she again? She needed REASON though. Hmm... Not being dead didn't seem a fair enough reason. Yet.

magikewe 01-15-2013 09:16 PM

As she waited for class to begin, Lily shifted on her pillow/seat/mat/thingies while setting up her notes. When class finally started, the fourth year tried her best to take good notes, only pausing now and again to listen to her classmates voice their opinions on what dueling truly was. Only once she felt that her notes were decent did the redhead raise her hand. "Dueling is somewhat like sparing in what muggles call karate. The goal is to score points, or in some cases defeat the person whom they are competing with. Only in dueling, the two people don't typically come into contact with each other." Unlike when she and her little brother sparred each other.

Speaking of dueling, was that why the new astronomy professor was in the classroom? Had Professor Romanos had a duel with the professor and gotten him with a spell or something?

Hey Ju 01-15-2013 10:00 PM

...Dueling? They were going to talk about dueling?

"It's pretty much a spell battle...?" Yes? COuld that be a definition? "It's a bit..." Violent? Dangerous? She didn't finish her sentence out loud, though, because she knew that there could be some duels that were 'just for fun'.

She could never see dueling as something fun, but some people were weird.

Only if it were a Charms Duel! That shoudl be fun! And totally not dangerous!

Professor Romanos said they'd focus on the theoretical part today, right? So that was good. Although the badger did remember all of their homework from last term, where they were asked what to do if they were hit by this or that spell during a duel...

Oh, Merlin!

Dylan's eyes lit up! They were going to practice on the guy? Man that would be soo cool! "Cool!" he said looking at the floor professor, wondering what spell he could do on him. Maybe the Defence professor could give him some ideas. He then heard some prefects talking about Bombara Maxima.. levitation? but wasnt that a spell to blow things up?! Ooo actually that wasnt a bad idea! he would LOVE to practice that spell on the professor, though he wasnt sure it would turn out well. Mm unless that professor wanted to be practiced on and other stuff.. he had better move!

"Good morning, Miss Greenvell." she said light and cheerfully, almost in what could have been a singing tone. Oh, but the Gryffindors request's, there was a moment of silence while Medea...tried to wrap her head around it. Penelope wanted to sit on their Astronomy professor?

...Well, she didn't particularly see a problem with that but, "Ve're going to start soon, Penelope. Best you find a mat before they're all taken."

Oh, where was their energetic Slytherin? "Good morning, Mister Odessa." Medea greeted with as much welcoming warmth and light-hearted tone as she did with the other students.

Purple?

Was that to...her? Or to...Airey?

Medea glanced down to the Astronomy Professor. Hmmmmm.

"Good morning, Miss Cambridge." Oh, what a good question for their guest. Yes, was he here to learn too?

"Quite positive." You know, it would be mighty welcoming if Airey twitched or something, to show that he was indeed alright. And not twitch in the way where it looked like he wasn't alright. Alas, Violet seemed to calm down a bit. "How vonderful." She said in reply to the girl's summer. "I did, yes. It was rather relaxing."

One of the remaining badge students to show up. "Good morning, Mister Rush." she smiled with the usual warm and welcoming smile she had during the beginnings of her lessons. "Congratulations on Head Boy."

Oh, another new student. Medea had to try and remember the girl's name for a moment. Names were fine. Names to faces however...a little more difficult. "Good morning." she smiled, deciding that she'd catch the name of the girl later.

One more glance to her watch. It was about time they started.

Dylan's mouth nearly dropped open, they were just going to talk no actually spell stuff? Oh man! just when he was hoping the lessons would get cool again they were gonna get boring? He didnt know why he came now, what if she made them do yoga again? As much as he didnt appreciate doing all of that, he had to admit it was funny to see others lose their balance and fall on the floor. But he wasnt going to fall cause he wasnt doing the yoga. He then looked at the other professor that was still on the floor and listened as the professor tried to explain what he was doing there.. on the floor of all the cool places he could have chosen to sleep, he chooses the hardest place of all. Was he ok? Didnt seem like it!

Dueling? well now there was an awesome topic to talk about, he put up his hand in order to answer the question. "Its a wand fight between two wizards!!" he said excitedly cause that was one thing that he wanted to do, a duel! "Like.. one" student "wizard does a spell and the other" professor like dodges that spell and he fires back, and the other throws a spell too and also dodges it, then the second guy throws out another spell but not before getting hit by the first guys spell![/b]" you hear that Mr Wood-Plank professor, you gonna get hit with a spell, just like in Dylan's story! Oh yes!

Laura was a bit confused there. "Anyway the people who are dueling want to fight over the said boy so they try and hurt each other, or kill each other, or in some cases just embarrass them."

"Yes, personal quarrels between two people or parties are a common starting point for duels to begin, though most often then none, these duels are not formal in nature." She found it hard to not smile at the mention of the 'something serious' being a boy or girl.

Okay, let's just ignore him and move to the lesson. Dueling? So, today they would learn about duelling? Sounded... cool. "We can say dueling as a formal fight since they have rules and manner." he spoke after raising his hand.

Medea nodded her head. "Right. A formal duel does indeed have rules the duelists follow, which we'll get into in a moment."

"Professor dueling is a formal way of fighting using weapons in order to settle ones honor."

"Yes, honor is one of the most common reasons for a duel to begin, whether it be formal or a straightforward fight. Though most people would go with a formal duel for the sake of providing some aspect of honor to the matter, and we'll get into why in just a moment."

Paaaaause, "Except where its duelling pianos. I seen that at a restaurant place that my dad took me and Aspen one time." That was cool too.

There was never a dull moment with West around. She was still amazed at the things he said or knew...or even remembered. "Yes, they probably do feel...belligerent...don't they." Medea slowly nodded. Ahem. Alright.

They use whatever resource they can to defend themselves and overcome their opponent," she said. "They can use things like spells or...anything around them really to try and reach the goal of the duel."

Hey, professor, can I shoot a couple of spells at the Astronomy professor?! PLEASEEEE!

"With duels in a general view, yes, you are allowed to whatever resource you see. Using your surroundings would be an excellent advantage, thank you for bringing that up."

- Dueling is a fight between two people. - said the Ravenclaw - In our world dueling is most of all a wand fight, and we use several spells to deffend ourselves and overcome our opponent.

"Indeed, opponents are only allowed to use magic in combat, though some don't always follow that rule do they?" A rhetorical question, but one to think about all the same.

"So, a duel is an encounter between two people in the manner of combat using matched weapons and may occur for various reasons. There are two types of duels. One, being most common, is when a duel breaks out without the use of rules and customs that define how a proper duel is performed. Usually these duels won't end until an opponent cannot move due to injuries sustained during the combat or death. The second type is a formal duel, where there are rules and limits that one follows. These are, unfortunately, rare to see out there in world, but they are a common method when it comes to practice duels; developing your skill with magic in offensive and defensive ways." Medea paused for a moment to let that sink in.

"With formal duels, the object is to disarm, injure, outdo, or even kill your opponent. How to decide this is between you and your opponent before the duel begins. We call these rules and limits Code Duello, which establishes this type of combat to be the more customary route to go when it comes down to one's honor. It helps prevent duels from turning into feuds."

"Does anyone know what else results with Code Duello? Or what some of these rules and limits could be? One answer per person please."

FireboltAvis88 01-15-2013 11:58 PM

Alyssa quickly noted down what Professor Romanos told the class in her journal.

Text Cut: Alyssa's DADA journal

Types of Duel
1. A fight breaks out where there are no rules
2. A duel is agreed upon abiding by specific rules and limitation agreed by both parties.

Code Duello: establishes the type of combat

Then she put down her quill and thought of the possible rules and limits that would be included in the code. Once she had a possible rule, she raised her hand.

"Professor no one else should be involved in the duel especially if it is between just two people. This prevents either party from being 'ambushed' by someone else."

TakemetotheBurrow 01-16-2013 12:07 AM

Ella was scribbling notes like mad because...well because DUELING! Dueling was fascinating, well except for the whole death part. She'd never want to be in a duel like that if she could help it.

Oh? Other rules and terms of the Code Duello? The blonde couldn't be sure but she figured what she was about to say was legit. "Professor, if someone fails to show up to a duel then the other person would be the winner and erm...well the one who failed to show would kind of be an outcast, yeah? Looked down on and stuff?" Ells wasn't sure this counted but she figured she'd give it a go.

Weasley174 01-16-2013 12:45 AM

Laura wasn't sure what to say but she decided to guess, she raised her hands. "Professor if one of the girls decided to trick the other into going to a place and time and then not showing up and like telling a Professor would that be against the rules, if they have arranged it?" Laura wasn't sure she would like that. "Also Professor if a girl was cheating in the duel because they were losing would they get into trouble?" Laura was enjoying this lesson.

Luna004 01-16-2013 02:38 AM

Susan sat there furiously taking notes. She wanted to make sure she didn't miss anything the professor said. So there were a ton of rules when dueling...sounds like it should come with a handbook so you don't accidental break any rules.

Sue wondered what would be a good rule to have when dueling..."If one person kills the other can they be punished for it?" They did technically kill someone but the other person said it was ok, in a way.

Lissy Longbottom 01-16-2013 02:46 AM

Alex raised his hand. "Well, I think in Code Duello, it says that if you DO need to duel, you should bring a second, right? Someone to take over in case you die?" he said, wrinkling his eyebrows. That seemed...counter productive. Why have a duel if you would just replace the loser and keep going? That seemed pointless to him.

Ignore the Professor?

That would be a little difficult seeing as he was right there taking up someone's potential leg space but she figured she could handle that. He wasn't there. Nope. And he wouldn't be there until the Professor gave extra instructions concerning him.

Dueling???

Were they gonna duel?? She'd always wanted to--why was she saying something about it being theoretical?? Nuuuuuuuuu! This meant books and reading and not being able to try out cool new jinxes and such!!!

Slowly and quite disappointedly she raised her hand. "It's that thing where people fight each other, right?"

Merlin, there were rules governing fighting??? Since when had there been rules?? Wasn't it as simply as hitting the other guy without getting yourself hurt?

...

This was just one of those things she ended up being wrong about, wasn't it? SIGH. Well all her life she'd gone thinking anything goes when in a duel--the Professor even mentioned that people could possibly die so she would stick to that way of thinking.

However, for the sake of answering the question..."I think certain spells are banned from duels, right Professor? Like you wouldn't be able to use any of those three curses. I'm pretty sure you'd go to Azkaban for those but I don't know what punishment you'd get from the duel officiator themself..."

Did people even try using those in duels?

"Will we get a chance to duel at all this year?"

Cassirin 01-16-2013 03:36 AM

Dueling code, hmm? Like things that one had to do to make it all formal and showy? It wasn't really that way in a fight. That's what his mum said, and that's what the professor was saying, but Mo supposed there was a lot of benefit in learning to duel in a safe environment before getting into crazy fights to the death.

He raised his hand. "There are formalities and traditions that take place as part of the duel, like bowing and taking paces. I guess the bowing might be about showing respect to each other, or a mutual acknowledgement that you're following the rules, because if anyone decided not to follow the rules... that would be really dangerous. And the pacing is to get far enough apart for proper spell casting." Or, you know... something like that.

demented_death_eater 01-16-2013 04:07 AM

Rawdon was rather quiet as he took detailed notes on the discussion and forgot to answer one of the questions. Oops! Another question was now asked and he raised his hand. "Professor, in Code Duello there should be witnesses present to ensure that the duel is fair to both parties involved and they can get medical help if someone is injured."

Govoni 01-16-2013 04:15 AM

Wait, wait, wait...Were they going to be able to DUEL this year? Dylan eyed his peers. A lot of people were asking...

THAT would be AWESOME...Sweet Merlin...

He eyed Aspen Odessa eyeing him.

Yes, ma'am...It. Would. Be. ON, Ravenclaw.

As to answer her question, though...the Slytherin shrugged. People had already said the good ones...Hmph. "I know the opponents are supposed to bow to each other." Glares for Aspen.

Was THAT a question, Odessa?!

FearlessLeader19 01-16-2013 04:19 AM

Jory quickly wrote some notes as the Professor spoke. After the next question was asked, he listened to a few responses before raising his hand.

"If one of the challengers did not appear he was looked down as a coward,'' he said.

Hey Ju 01-16-2013 04:36 AM

Sophie wasn't quite sure she liked where this subject was going. Death??? Even in formal duels?? That was crazy! Who would ever want to duel knowing they might DIE??

People could be weeeird...

The badge obviously knew almost nothing about this Code Duello thing, so she kept quiet, just thinking it would be way better to just have a Charm Duel. It would be totally fun and clearly MUCH safer. Oh, she also took notes, but just because they might need them for homework.
