Default Astronomy Lesson 2

Astronomy has left the planetarium and returned to the classroom this lesson, which may be to your delight depending on how gravity of the previous lesson left you. As you enter the first thing you will notice is that the desk are NOT lined up in neat rows but are instead arranged in a large semi circle in front of the chalkboard. On the chalkboard are 13 framed photographs, but you cannot see what they are off just yet because they are covered with a black velvet fabric. Try to guess what is under if you wish, but chances are you will be wrong.

Beside the chalkboard you will see Professor Flamsteed leaning on a large wooden table are everyone's star jars from your long term assignment - yes Alexa, even Jeffery is there. Go up and say hello or show your love for your star in another way if you want, but be sure to take your seat soon after.

Don't forget to use the lint roller as you enter! Do take note of the sign Professor Flamsteed has placed beside it that reads: Not for use in hair. Clothing only.
Lesson Progression
first question :: can you guess what is in the photo frames?
first activity :: order the pictures from youngest to oldest on a piece of parchment to turn in to Professor Flamsteed
results of the activity & stellar evolution explained :: life cycle of a star and how it relates to the human life cycle. Any questions?
answer to questions & star care :: FIELD TRIP TIME!
activity 2 :: create your own asterism! Please note the lesson has moved from the classroom (this thread) to outside (the Tower Patch)
WHAT'S THIS?! :: a tiny announcement & a HAPPENING
A METEOR SHOWER! :: information on the shower & some last minute instructions
CLASS DISMISSED!
OOC: Please be sure you are familiar with Professor Flamsteed's rules BEFORE you post in this lesson. We will know if you haven't read them! All SnitchSeeker site rules apply. ALSO! You do NOT, I repeat, do NOT have to have done the long term assignment to participate in this lesson. Just pretend as if you have done so or go get started NOW if you haven't!

This lesson has officially begun! Please use the class progression to keep up and NO editing posts please.

Missing tie? Oh no she wasn't going to go on another wild goose chase for something else that had gone missing...or maybe just for fun...she would. Alyssa had to admit that she loved investigating stuff. Reward? She didn't care about that. Alyssa decided that she would keep an eye...and ear out...if she did see or hear anything about anyone seeing or possessing said blue silk tie.

As for what was hidden behind those picture frames covered behind the black velvet fabric? Alyssa thought to herself. The professor had said that it had something to do with them and their stars. She counted the number of picture frames. 13.

'Okay it can't be pictures of the 9...I mean 8 planets in the Solar System because there are too many frames and we're not doing planets. It can't be pictures of the Constellations because there are 88 of them. ' Alyssa thought to herself as she stared at the picture frame.

Then Alyssa thought of a possible answer. The Professor had said, the picture frames were about themselves and the stars. The zodiac constellations! Humans referred to the zodiac constellations a lot to determine their destiny.

Alyssa decided to hazard a guess. Raising her hand she gave her answer.

"Professor could those be pictures of the zodiac constellations. Everyone thinks that there are 12 zodiac constellations but there are actually 13. Capricornus, Aquarius, Pisces, Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpius, Sagittarius, and lastly, the least known. Ophiuchus."

Was she right? Alyssa doubted she was but at least she did try.

Just one more peek outside the classroom....

"We will wait just a few more minutes before we begin," he announced as he began to walk back up to the front of the room where his covered photo framed chalkboard stood and checked his sundial for a moment. "In the meantime, if you notice that your star's color or condition needs tending to now OR during my lesson, you have permission to get up and tend to it yourself. No need to raise your hand and ask for permission. BUT, you are expected to do so quietly and without disrupting the lesson." Otherwise there would be consequences. "ALSO! As some of you are aware, my Carolina blue silk tie has been missing for quite some time now. If you know anything or see anything please inform me immediately." And there would be serious rewards.

He then removed his lint roller again and began to roll it over the black velvet fabric on each frame just to make sure there was no fur whatsoever on them. He just had the feeling that Medea had put some somewhere as part of her revenge. She had been rather cruel outside his office...but he wouldn't put it past her to have some hidden hairs here somewhere.

Once he was done and had returned the roller to his breast pocket, he walked over to his sundial and checked the time.

Just ignore that it was now dark outside. Once again rendering his sundial useless.

He turned his attention towards the class once more. "You are also welcome to try and guess what is in the frames. The only hint I will give you is that it something that relates to both you AND your stars."

Holy Mother of Merlin... was it REALLY night time? Where did the day go? When did it get dark out? Did it have anything to do with her nap this morning.... she had gone to her morning class and then napped and then... ohhhhhh. Oh yeah, that would TOTALLY make sense. How late did she sleep though? Eh, she was tired from all of her studying as of late. Yes, she had been studying! What of it?

And then he asked them all an opening sort of question. Raising her hand, she said, "Professor? Is it pictures of Peebles?" She supposed that it worked together because people had to take care of their stars the way that Flamstead took care of his pet rock. What? It TOTALLY made sense. Sort of.

"That is a good guess, Miss Phillips," he nodded. Not THAT far off when one looked at the activity abstractly. "If you wish, we can take a few pictures before we move outside."

Oops. He had just given away a little bit of what they would be doing tonight. Heh.

The nod from Anya was a bit unexpected but Ella appreciated the gesture and gave a small nod and faint smile in return. Then Alec sat down beside her and she turned and BEAMED at the boy, her cheeks turning a little pink. There was no real reason for the blushing but hey, she did like the boy a whole lot so she'd blame it on that. Mhm. Grin!

So they could tend to their stars if they needed to? This made the blonde very happy and she scanned the jars, noting where Little Treyen was amongst the twinkly ones at the front of the room. You best believe she'd be up there with wand in hand if the little guy started to go downhill. She had her eyes on him and any slight color change meant OSTS! Operation Save the Star!

Missing tie? Hmmmm. Sounded like a case for Nancy Drew Ella Bishop! The fifteen year old smiled a little and casually started doodling a tie on her parchment, wondering where a missing tie might have disappeared to. Did they have washing machine monsters at Hogwarts too? Cause the one at her house ate all kinds of socks and she supposed there could be some kind of magical equivalent. Just a guess, though.

Whatever was in the frames related to them and their stars? Hmmm... That didn't exactly help narrow it down now did it? The badger stroked her imaginary beard and tried to figure out just what might be there.

No guess from the Hufflepuff? Pity. But her imaginary beard was very lovely.

He leaned back in his seat and folded his arms. He kept silent as more students came in, and as Airey started talking. He was missing a tie? How sad. Everyone knew how important the man's suits were. He was probably devastated. And Jake sort of felt bad. Maybe he'd start looking for the tie.

Until then, though... there was class to be had. Jake turned his attention to the picture frames covered in velvet. What was behind them? They could be anything, really. "Are they pretty star pictures?" Because... that totally had something to do with him and Twinkle. Sort of. Not really. Oh well.
"Nope. No pictures of stars under here," he said with a grin. Not even close, Mr. Keller. Sort of like you and those quaffles last match

While Miss Potter had not implied that rubbish of a subject with her answer, the term zodiac paired with constellations just always made him think of it. Which is why his right eyebrow was twitching in agitation. If there was ONE thing that drove him batty about astronomy it was that people all too often got it confused with astrology. That was seriously like comparing chocolate frogs to trolls.

Anyway, back to the girl's answer.

"Nice try, Miss Potter, but no. There are no constellation pictures under here," he said with a grin before moving on.

PEBBLES! No, but he half wanted to give the Head Girl points for thinking about her. "No, but thank you for thinking of her, Miss Skylar."

Airey peeked his head outside the classroom once more to check for any students that may be sprinting down the corridors. Seeing no one - and noting the 'time' on his sundial - he shut the door and walked back to the front of the room and stood by the chalkboard.

Yep. Time to get this party started.

"Alright everyone, find a seat if you haven't done so already and get your quill and parchment out," he announced while tapping his wand against the chalkboard. "First, welcome back to Astronomy and thank you all for all your hard work on your star projects. I know each of them appreciates your diligence." He then hopped up onto the table holding the star jars and sat down on it.

"We discussed a lot last lesson thanks to all of you and the songs you shared, but the primary focus was about the misconception that shooting stars are actually stars." Just for a little bit of review. "Today's lesson will focus not on misconceptions, but on actual stars and I have a little surprise for all of you at the end." Which he had hinted at just a few minutes ago to Miss Phillips.

He then gestured towards the board once more, smirk still very much on his face. "Some of your classmates have ventured a guess as to what is in these frames and so far Miss Phillips has been the closest. If you have already guessed, you are welcome to give it another go. If you have not guess just yet please do. What is in these frames is something that stars and us have in common to a certain degree. You will need some out of the box and creative thinking to guess correctly." He paused again and winked towards Miss Potter. "The number of frames has nothing to do with what is in them."
OOC: this lesson has officially begun! Please do NOT post your student arriving after this post or else risk losing points for your house. Please just pretend as though you have been here all along!

Try to guess what Professor Flamsteed has hidden in those frames if you can!
This lesson will hopefully continue tomorrow around noon GMT+9.

What are behind those cloths? What was it hiding from them? There had to be something so special hidden underneath. Whatever the picture frames were holding was a mystery. Kat didn't really have a first guess before the others made. She was listening and stuff.

Anya got the closest. Oh well. And... Huh. They were heading outside after this? She tried to have her Ravenclaw mind in because even Slytherins were smart right? Kat just had to think harder. Out of the box stuff, you know. Maybe was an option right now, because they were only guessing. She had her hand up. "Maybe some sneaky candid photos of us while we were making and caring for our stars." It was a guess and probably Professor Flamsteed wouldn't kill them to try. Shrug.

What were they going to do outside though? Star gaze and star-creator bonding time?

I don't want a repeat of the last one." Not that he would be taking gravity away again or have meteors pelt themselves at students. Today had something entirely different on the agenda.
He couldn't agree more. "It's won't Professor, I mean I will...keep up the best I can, I won't do anything stupid after class" Like visit the Healer, no wait maybe he should! She STILL had his liquid luck, and he desperatly wanted it back.
So take back that 'not do anything stupid' remark, it may have to happen.

Family.
That was what Oakey took from Professor Flamsteed when he said that Anya was closest to guessing correctly. What kind of stars were a family? Hrrrrmmmmmmmmm. Oakey ruffled his hair in deep thought. The Brady Bunch, The Jackson Five, even the Osbournes. Mental Laugh, The Osbournes are a Rockstar family...get it ROCK STAR...meteors, shooting stars, Flamsteed would enjoy that.

...

What was the question?

Edita wrote down the date and the subject on the top left corner of her parchment paper. Meanwhile, she chewed on the inside of her cheek, trying to think of a good guess that wouldn't make her look completely ridiculous in front of the class. She did that often enough and she'd rather avoid if it she possibly could. "If it's not stars and constellations, and it's not family pictures I mean," she trailed off, tickling her nose with the end of her quill. "Is it like, dead stars?"

That probably still counted as stars. D'oh. "Never mind. I just thought maybe it was like exploding stars, and black holes and things."

She glanced over at Ezra who surely would have something to say about her Death Star obsession that she herself was starting to worry about.

Alright, she knew that she had been wrong with her last answer. She knew that chances of her being right was a long shot. So it still had something to do with humans and stars and what both have in common to a certain degree?

Alyssa wracked her brain. She loved a puzzle.
'Think outside the box, Alyssa.' This time she spent even more time trying to think of the answer. Family pictures

'What do stars and us have in common?' Alyssa constantly ran that commonality through her mind. Then she thought of another possible answer. But it wouldn't seem possible that it would be what those pictures were about, would it?

'Well the Professor did say think outside the box.' Alyssa thought to herself, so she decided to hazard another guess. 'Hey at least I'm trying.' she told herself as she slowly and hesitantly raised her hand.

"Professor I tried to think outside the box and I was thinking that the one thing that stars and us, humans have in common, is our basic composition. What we're made of. Could those pictures be pictures of some of the various atoms and elements that us human and stars are made of, like carbon, calcium, iron, oxygen and even hydrogen?"

Okay that sounded dumb but again it was worth a try.

"Oh wait.....could it be pictures of stars as they are forming like we grow?"

Ella continued to stroke her beard as several of her classmates gave their answers and she smiled a little at the idea of taking pictures with Little Treyen. Family portraits? Yeah, she was up for those. Maybe she could even offer her doodling skills to anyone who wished to be drawn with their star? That was definitely an option.

They were going outside in a bit? BEAM! Ella loved going outside and stargazing! She also had the nagging feeling in her tummy that they might be letting the little stars go out there which was...a bit sad. But it was also kind of cool too. Blink. Was that what they were going to do? Hmmmm?

Oh and she was ready to guess now, Ella was. Raising her hand the blonde sat up a little straighter and smiled. "Professor, are the portraits of homes? I mean, we all have homes and Hogwarts is kind of home and the sky and well, these jars are homes to the stars so we all have that in common." And yes, she was rambling. She tended to do that a lot. Sorry. She kind of ended her guess there and gave a little shrug and a smile.

As the professor greeted her, she smiled and asked if she found his blue tie. "No professor i have no found your tie but i will be on the lookout."

Then he started the lesson. She wondered what the stars and humans have in common. Well stars have heat and hydrogen and all other components. Maybe that could be it? She heard Alyssa a fellow puff answer, they were thinking on the same lines.

Belle raised her hand, "Professor i know that the humans and stars share the element hyrdrogen and helium. Also i have heard the humans and stars can share electricity and heat is that true as well?" Belle asked unsure.

ooc: Btw love the A very potter musical reference . i giggled at that :3

The young Ravenclaw, newly turned teenager, sat in her desk in the semi-circle, pondering what could be in the picture frames. So they're not constellations, or family photos...But they're of things we and the stars have in common? She thought and thought. Could it be things we are made of and need? It was similar to some of the other students' guesses, but it was what she could think of. "Professor, I think it's something along the lines of things we both need. Like elements and, heat, air, sometimes the cold, electricity...Things like that. Is that right?" It was a jumbled answer, she knew, but she was hoping he would get where she was trying to go with it, even if she herself wasn't sure how to say where that was exactly.

Sierra was already in her seat, so she reached into her bag and got out a quill and some parchment to write on. As she did this, she continued to listen to the professor. Their stars appreciated their hard work? Whatever. They were stars. They didn't have emotions or feelings. Sierra was so glad that project was over. She just wasn't nurturing and could care less whether a star was taken care of or not.

Not that she would tell the professor that...

Okay, so...what was in the frames? Ehh, who cared? Why didn't Sir Lintroller just move the obstruction and let them see? She raised her hand. "I think it's just pictures of people...and pictures of stars," she said, "because...erm, both can come in all shapes and sizes?"

Ehh. She had nothing.

Of course, suit!Professor didn't know that. But he was about to.

Okay. No pictures of stars. Pictures of other things then?

Wowza!

Ezra blinked twice at the professor, and at every single answer given by his classmates. For Edita he had three blinks and a frown. If the answer was something the class shared with stars, then the answer was really very obvious, was it not? "It's the Milky Way. Those are pictures of our galaxy." For someone who less than ten seconds ago had been thoroughly confused and lost, Ezra sounded remarkably sure of himself, now. "We share the galaxy with lots of stars, so we have that in common." Kind of like neighbors. "Sort of like neighbors. One gigantic neighborhood."

What did stars and people have in common? Not much, besides a few elements. But the professor had said to think outside the box...... hmmm. Headscratcher. It was then that Sky remembered the other definition of stars, the one that had absolutely nothing to do with class. "They're people that other people like to watch. Like actors and musicians." That was some out of box thinking. She was fully expecting to be told that she was wrong, but at least she'd tried, right?

Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite

Lex was busy being all nice and loving to her TWO star when she was greeted by the Professor! She beamed up at him. "You did and they're both happy and I think they've sorted out their differences between themselves. Jeffery doesn't go a darker shade of black when he see NOT Jeffery anymore!" See? Improvement! Her stars knew how to behave and get along!

When everyone was instructed to take their seat she kissed both jars before heading to her seat.

Oooooooooo! They were gonna be playing the guessing game!! She'd gotten better at this game. Yup, she totally had so her hand flew up.

"Is it like a portal that we step through and it takes us into outer space where the stars all live together??--oh but Professor...if it is then Jeffery can't participate..." She eyed the black star before continuing in a whisper, "He's a bit sensitive about his glow"

They had to be considerate here. She would have to stay back with him while everyone roamed the universe because otherwise he'd get his feelings hurt.

Jory thought. He really had no idea what the frames could contain. But he raised his hand anyway to give a try. "Professor, is it the way they are composed? Like starting from the way they are formed all the way up to becoming a star?''

Mo was fully distracted by Nova, even though she was fine and glowing and happy, and so he didn't even bother guessing about the frames the first time. Unless there were pictures of their stars in there, then he didn't...

But now his attention was drawn back around to the professor, and Mo flashed his slow grin at the man. "We're all made of star dust, Professor, so that makes us family. Do you have pictures of us with our stars? Also, can we make constellations out of our stars? Maybe we can hang the jars on wires from the ceiling somewhere and make our own night sky. And also, I think Nova would like that, on account of it would make her feel important and she'd be near all the other stars."

"Asterisms." West said, sort of correcting Mo but also sort of guessing almost mysteriously but it had to do with the note he'd sent to Flamsteed after the assignment had been finished with.

Asterisms would be more creative. And it was like a family. A family for stars.

Dylan was totally amused by the guesses thus far. AMUSEMENT was on his face. Of course, they didn't really tell him anything. Professor Flamsteed said that none of them had been correction...but that Princess Phillips had been closest....Family portraits having been her answer...

Well, really...the Slytherin didn't know.

His answer was going to be Constellations...but then the Professor had pointed out to Alyssa Potter that it all sounded too much like Astrology...and this wasn't Astrology...but Astronomy. Hmmmm.

"They could be stars drawn as caricatures...with crazy expressions...or...different constellations. NOT zodiac-based, of course...but other star systems...and galaxies...Like Orion's Belt." BEAM.

Honestly, Dylan didn't know WHAT the pictures consisted of...but he wanted to say something. So, there.

The professor chuckled and scratched his imaginary beard for a moment. He would never actually grow one. Didn't go with the suit.

"Afraid there are no candid pictures of you all and your stars here," he said with a small smirk. Didn't mean he didn't have any somewhere else. He was in charge of the yearbook after all along with Medea.

Good good. The boy had learned his lesson. Although he had the feeling that Cece may of had more to do with it than him, but at least the boy had learned...yes?

Back to the point....

Airey gave the prefect an approving nod and then waited to see if he had a guess....which it didn't seem he did. Hmm...Hufflepuffs were certainly quiet this time around. Had he cast a Silencing Charm on them and not noticed?

"If it's not stars and constellations, and it's not family pictures I mean," she trailed off, tickling her nose with the end of her quill. "Is it like, dead stars?"

That probably still counted as stars. D'oh. "Never mind. I just thought maybe it was like exploding stars, and black holes and things."

She glanced over at Ezra who surely would have something to say about her Death Star obsession that she herself was starting to worry about.
"Another good guess, Miss Happenstance, but not this time. Nothing of that sort is in these frames." Although they might be getting a sort of demonstration here in a little bit.

Hum de dum.

At last. A Hufflepuff that did not keep quiet. Not that he ever expected Miss Potter to do so. Heh.

"A very logical guess, Miss Potter. But no. I figured you all had been exposed to the elements enough thanks to your star project."

Heh. He made a funny and sort of made himself chuckle out loud before moving on to the next student.

OOC: please do not edit your posts for content. The edited portion of your post does not count.

That was a rather cute idea, but really REALLY far off. "While I do like that you somewhat personified stars with your answer, I am afraid it is incorrect."

Belle raised her hand, "Professor i know that the humans and stars share the element hyrdrogen and helium. Also i have heard the humans and stars can share electricity and heat is that true as well?" Belle asked unsure.

ooc: Btw love the A very potter musical reference . i giggled at that :3
Airey simply shook his head. "As I told Miss Potter just now, I thought you all would have had enough of those elements by now. But you both do bring up a valid point."

He gave a nod to the prefect and Miss Potter's direction before moving on.

It was a jumbled answer, she knew, but she was hoping he would get where she was trying to go with it, even if she herself wasn't sure how to say where that was exactly.
Siiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh. Nope. And he had just sort of repeated himself to the two Hufflepuffs. ALAS HOGWARTS STUDENTS! ALAS!

"While what you say has some truth to it, that is not what is in the frames." Not to mention that stars did not need electricity and some of the other things she mentioned, but he wasn't going to get into all that just now.

He was a man with a plan!

His piercing blue gaze fell on the Slytherin prefect and widened instantly. "STOP there!" he said while practically thrusting his index finger towards the girl's mouth to stop her from saying any more. "Pictures of people! All shapes and sizes! YES! THIS! ALMOST!"

And then the easily excitable professor JUMPED onto the girl's desk. "Did everyone hear what Miss Greingoth just said? Pictures of PEOPLE!" He then jumped off her desk and walked back to the board and gave it a tap. "While Miss Greingoth brings up a good point about stars AND people coming in all shapes and sizes, that is only about 75% correct. These pictures focus on another aspect." Still... "5 points to you, Miss Greingoth!"

Cue another laugh from the man. See, this was the sort of creative thinking that he appreciated, even if it was wrong. "Very creative, but afraid there are no people of that sort under the fabric." But 10 awesome to you!

While Airey was pretty sure that darker shade of black was just Miss Cambridge's imagination, he refrained from commenting. She seemed overly sensitive when it came to her stars.

*blink blink*

"Nope, no portals. And you all would need more than a Bubble-head Charm to survive that sort of journey." Not to mention he was pretty sure that the Headmistress would turn the same color as her hair if he asked for such a field trip.

AHA! AHA AHA AHA!!

Mr. Stonewall had managed to excite Airey once again - but not to the point of jumping up on his desk. "YES! Combine this with what Miss Greingoth said and take out the star and by Orion's belt you've got it!"

Airey sent this bright young astronomer a knowing wink. He hadn't had time to respond to the boy's note before the lesson, but most of the answers to his questions would be revealed as the class progressed. "Hold on to that though, Mr. Odessa," he grinned while making a mental note to himself to call upon the boy for a favor later in the class.

Airey walked around the semi circle of seats again, glancing from student to student to see if anyone else had another guess before returning to his sundial and snapping the fingers on his right hand together. Time to move on!

"While none of you were entirely correct, the combined answers of Miss Greingoth and Mr. Stonewall give us all the correct response," he GRINNED before drumming his hands on the table beside him for the grand revealing. Was no one else going to join him in the drum roll? Wand out, the professor tapped the board and with a very loud TADA! revealed what was in the frames.

"People, just like stars, have a life cycle and there are ways to identify at which stage in life each is at. What I would like for you to do, either alone or with a friend or friends, is to try and place these pictures in order from youngest to oldest. You may just write numbers on a piece of parchment to do this. Please note WHY you think one picture belongs in what order. What is it about the person that makes them seem young or old. You may write a detailed description of how you determined this sequence if you wish." He paused for a moment to allow all this to sink in. "Please turn these parchments in to me when you are done. The person or persons who come closest to guessing the order will be rewarded." Get it? Got it? Good. Or he assumed good because he thought his instructions were rather straight forward. "Alright, engage!"

Star Trek reference anyone?

Really? he had gotten the answer right? Partially, at least? Jory had not been expecting that. That aside, he now turned his attention to the thirteen photos. Put them in order? "Sounds like fun!'' he thought as he retrieved a piece of parchment from his bag.

He didn't think he'd be able to get all of the photos in the correct order but maybe he'd get at least a couple right? "Time to get to work!''

SPOILER!!: Jory's work
Order of Photos:
4, 10 , 2, 3, 12, 8, 11, 1, 6, 5, 9, 13, 7

Why that Order:
The first frame wasn't hard to determine. Everyone knows what that image is. Photos 10, 2 and 3 are images of the newborn baby and early stages of their life. Photos 12,8 and 11 shows kids in their late childhood. Photos 1 and 6 are most likely teen years. Photos 5 and 9 are definitely adult hood and finally photos are that of old age. For the images that show a particular stage in life like 12,8 and 11, I just tried to determine which looked younger or older.

"And done!'' Jory wasn't sure about some of the order of which he had put down but he still tried. He left his seat and turned in his parchment. "Here you go, Professor.''

Gryffinclaw-Ravendor • The REAL Hermione Granger

Sarah looked at the pictures... she scanned through each row, looking for the youngest there. Then she spotted it, it was a fetus, still in the womb. That picture must be the youngest, so she wrote down its number, four on her parchment.

She looked nest... then she spotted in another row a picture of what looked like a newborn baby. She looked at its number. Number 10. That was still at the stage when a baby looked red and ugly.

She then spotted another baby picture. The baby looked a bout three months old in picture 2. So she wrote down that number too.

In picture three, it looked like a one year old, at most of toddler. She wrote down that number too
SPOILER!!: parchment

Order:
4 (fetus)
10 (newborn)
2 (few months old)
3 -(one years old or toddler)

Belle saw the board revealed and realized her answer was wrong. She should have gone more simple than explaining it in detail. Belle felt kind of stupid..But then she heard the task. She had to rearrange the pictures from youngest to old.

"This task seemed easy..." Belle thought to herself. Belle loved doing this type of activity, matching and finding out what she thought. She was even giving her explanation. She took her quill and started to write.....

SPOILER!!: parchment!

Picture Order:
4, 10, 2, 3, 12, 8, 11, 1, 6, 5, 9, 13, 7

Explanation:
Well the first few pictures 4,10,2 and 3 all are newborns to toddler. They all seem so young. Then 12, 8, 11 go through their childhood stages and they looked around the same age. 1,6,5,9 these people all through their middle ages probably between their thirties and fourties and they look younger than the old people. 13 and 7 it looks like they are in their last stages of life, in their elder years.

Wowza!

Despite not having gotten the right answer, Ezra grinned Flamsteed because he liked his own confidence, too. Besides, maybe his answer wasn't the right one but it technically wasn't wrong either, was it not? Stars and people did have the Milky Way in common.

Speculatively, he eyed the pictures, brushing his chin with the feather of his quill in a distracted fashion as he did so. Some of the people in those pictures looked exactly the same age to Ezra's eyes, but he was pretty sure he could at least get the babies right. Ezra knew a lot about babies.

In his clumsy but relatively legible scrawl, he set to work:

SPOILER!!: Ezra's answers
4: You can tell that's the youngest because that's inside the sack of water, which means he's not even born yet! It doesn't even look ready to come out yet, look at its eyes!!!!
10: That baby is out of the sack of water (it has a name, I know, but I don't really know it, I think???) but it doesn't look very comfortable with being among the living (or the living that don't live in sacks of water???), so he's got to be a newborn. He also looks like he's ready to cry, and my little sister, when she was a newborn? She cried a lot, too.
2: Definitely doesn't look like it's (she? he? I'd say it's a boy because it's wearing blue, but gran's favourite colour is blue and she's lady???) ready to cry, which probably means it's now used to be outside the sack of water.
3: She looks like she's old enough to sit by herself without needing anyone to prop her up but not old enough to walk. Maybe not even crawl. Hey, I see teeth!
12: Well, he's eating an apple and to eat apples you need most if not all your teeth so he's definitely older than the girl.
11: I was going to say 8 was younger because he looks it, but then, girls also look older than boys, sometimes, so maybe 8 is actually older.
8: Older!
6: I guess he's a teenager. Looks about my other sister's age, actually.
1: Older! actually, she may be my brother's age...
5: Older! But not my brother's age.
9: See above. : )
13: Ancient.
7: Gran, is that you????? I think she may have too many wrinkles to be gran though I'm pretty sure gran has that same dress...

Anya was totally on task. And the Professor couldn't deny she had brilliant ideas. Yup yup. She might as well be teaching the lesson herself.

And she got a wink. Yeah. It was official. She was the Professor's favoritest student.

Oooh. And group work. This could only mean one thing. She grabbed her stuff and helped herself to the desk next to Jake's.
She took out a piece of parchment and on the side of it wrote '<-- Younger ----- Older -->'

She then slid the parchment over to Jake's desk. "Start from somewhere." she said. Either the old people or the babies. Whichever he did better with.

And no, she wasn't even going to bother asking him if he wanted to work together.
