The beginning of term, new faces, old faces, new adventures... yeah Bentley was excited. As she stood in the entrance to Greenhouse Four, she rocked back and forth on the ball of her feet, her hands clasped in front of her.
"Good morning everyone! The lesson will begin shortly, in the meantime please take a seat." She motioned her hands to a few rows of benches that have been placed near the entrance to the greenhouse for the purpose of that lesson.
OOC: The lesson has officially started, DO NOT announce your character arriving from this point onward, as they will be late, and late = trouble. If you haven't done so already then please read through the Herbology Rules and Expectations and the SS Site Rules. All SS Board Rules apply. IC rule breaking will result in IC punishment, OOC rule breaking will result in OOC punishment. Please behave appropriately and most importantly... have fun. FIVE APPLES A DAY? REALLY? That was a LOT OF APPLES! That would keep away.... five healers! Err... right? That would... that would clear off an apple tree in a month! IN A YEAR THERE WOULD BE NO APPLES LEFT IN THE ORCHARD! West sort of stared, half in awe, half in horror at the older Slytherin boy.
... did candy apples count? Toffee apples? Apple pie? What about cider? Did that change how many normal apples he'd eat? Could you live on apples?
And more importantly, what did he do with the cores!!!?

No one was more awesome than Lea Carter. Well...then, boys; they were a hopeless case. After rolling her eyes at the boy, she turned back to professor. ''I know my beauty is natural, professor, but to make myself look shiny and awesome i have my special handmade soaps. I like to bathe myself with them.''
West tilted his head and juuuuuuuuuust caught the eye rolling but didn't realise it was directed his way.
... shiny? He squinted. Who needed more than one soap? It was hard enough to keep hold of ONE bar of soap (though admittedly that was probably the funnest part of soap, cos you could shoot it across the bathroom just by squeezing it)
He was learning SO MUCH in this class already!
A thought occurred to him. If that girl had a soap that was shaped like an apple, would that other boy EAT it?
Teehee.
He faced front, expression completely innocent and attentive, but really he was wondering about making fake apples out of funny things and conveniently putting them in places where the older Slytherin boy would eat them.

Kirie had almost been late. By almost a full minute, but she made it inside before she was actually late. She walked over to a table, and examined a plant. It looked... well, very much alive.
Emmaline smiled cheerily at Kirie, the girl whom she'd talked to at the Sart of Term Feast. Then she focused completely on Professor Bentley. She decided to join in.
"Well, I drink water everyday, keep clean, and eat healthy food when I'm given the option," she said.
That was true. She believed being healthy was important.

Pyrsephonie thought about the question. 'What do I do to take care of myself?' After thinking about it for a bit, she raised her hand to speak. "Well, I always try to get enough sleep. I also eat healthy and get plenty of exercise to stay fit, but I don't overdo it. I LOVE to be outdoors. The fresh air really does the body good." She smiled. She never actually thought about how good these things were for her. She just did them because it was how she was raised. "I also read and socialize as much as I can, but at the appropriate time. Both of those keeps my mind sharp in different ways."
Kirie offered an awkward smile to the fifth year. Talking though? Out loud? Terrifying. "Um... I keep healthy by... eating healthy?" She suggested, then closed her mouth for a moment. Opening it again, she changed her answer, "I don't eat any junk food unless I'm at a special event. And I take showers everyday. I also drink plenty of orange juice. So I don't get scurvy. Like the pirates. That's why they had oranges, did you know?" Then she closed her mouth to keep from rambling on about random facts. "I'm sorry..." She then squeaked.
Emmaline smiled encouragingly at Kirie, the poor girl was nervous. She hoped the first year would soon relax around others. She thought for a second.
"I also stay away from sweets as they aren't good for your teeth and seeing as both my parents are dentists I don't have much trouble avoiding the sweets," Emmaline added.

Cornelius couldn't deny that he was happy to be back out on the Hogwarts grounds. It was probably the best part of the school to the exchange student who was immediately drawn to the expanding outdoors that Hogwarts had. So, the first Herbology lesson of the year came as a nice change from all of the unpacking and various classes set in the many floors of the actual castle.
The 6th year remained quiet as he listened to Professor Bentley greet everyone, glancing around himself and taking in the fresh air with a small smile on his expression. But he quickly returned his attention to the Professor as she asked them all what they did to take care of themselves each day. He thought for a moment, vaguely recalling his moment in Charms when he realized how messy he had looked. Maybe he didn't do that much... Well, no, that was only every once in a while, when he woke up late, that he really looked a bit messy. But today he'd managed to look fairly nice, his hair was done at least.
But he didn't really do anything all that special... He definitely didn't make his own soap or anything. "I shower," he started honestly, figuring that was a good place to begin. "I do my hair on occasion. I brush my teeth... I eat." He gave a soft chuckle, knowing that it wasn't sounding all that abnormal, but he really didn't do anything all that special to get ready.
Sophie smiled when Theo sat down next to her. It would be cool to see him learning that plants are ALL lovely and that they could and SHOULD be friends with them!
She listened closely to professor Bentley's words and raised her hand before answering. "Well, I eat properly, I take showers, I sleep! And uh... have fun!!" Lots of fun! Yes, that was important!
Kirie chewed her lip, and looked at the plants intently. She figured that she would probably kill any of the plants she touched. She had a miniature cactus once. And she accidentally left it without water. Needless to say it died.
Ameliah raised her hand hesitantly. "Well, Professor, I keep myself clean, I eat" Erm... almost"properly, and if I get hurt and can't fix it myself, I go to the Healer." she nodded promptly. Definenitly that last one. The best answer ANYONE could give. Hm, hm.
Whaa? What did Lilly do to take care of herself? Strange, easy question to start off with. Well, the obvious things. Not on purpose, not actually to keep herself healthy. Nothing special, like the girl who used special handmade soaps. Pffht. How many soaps did a girl need? She needed one. Until it ran out. Then she needed two. Except she only needed one, because the first didn't exist anymore. Why couldn't she do arithmancy like that?
Lilly raised her hand. "I eat, professor." Way too much chocolate, but that wasn't about to change to keep healthy. "I also excercise regularly, and keep clean by showering"- or having a bath- "and brushing my teeth and hair." The cue for her to start fiddling with that loose strand which had escaped the messy bun piled on top of her head. It looked like she hadn't brushed it at all that morning, but she had. Just been very...tired.
Then Lilly blushed - she hated answering in class. For some reason it embarassed her, not for the reason that she was shy or anything, just the way she had always been, at muggle primary and Hogwarts (which she enjoyed much more). Thinking of chocolate, she reeaaaaaaaally wanted some. This class needed to end so she could fill her desire and stuff herself with the delicious treat. Except she ate it so much that it wasn't one, amazing as it was.
After consulting her pendant watch one last time, Seren snapped the lid shut on if and tucked it under her robes, the chain still visible around her neck. "Welcome everyone to the first herbology lesson of the term, for those of you that don't know me, I am Professor Bentley, and I assure you, you are in safe hands." ... just in case some of the firsties were worried she was going to make them play tag with the Whomping Willow, or let-me-go with a Devils Snare. No no no, she wasn't insane.
"Now today we're going to be looking at how to care for a very unique and wonderfully diverse group of plants, but before we do so, I want you all to consider something." Having closed the greenhouse door and moved to stand in front of the group of students, she paused before continuing. "What are some of the things you do on a daily basis, to take care of yourself?"
It was good that Professor Bentley was taking things slow with the first lesson, Ellowyn didn't know half of anything about plants. She thought for a second before raising her hand. "Well I feed myself and shower and try to exercise regularly, I also try to keep myself busy with friends and work..." Hopefully that was an acceptable answer?

Confused over what that had to with Herbology (unless Professor Bentley was going to make the point that plants couldn't do that), Emmanuelle considered the question anyway. Where there any other answers besides those already mentioned by her classmates? Deciding that there wasn't, she decided to go ahead and answer anyway, just repeating most of what everyone else had said. "Well, taking a shower is important, as is brushing one's teeth, eating, drinking plenty of water, exercise, and getting plenty of rest." Yep, that last one was truly important. Without rest, people turned into evil zombies. That's were all those zombie stories came from. They weren't dead people come back to life, but people that had just been woken rudely. Anyway…

So, here it was...The very first lesson of the year.
Herbology.
Dylan had never been too crazy about plants...or greenery, for that matter. Not to say that he didn't love the outdoors...He could have lived outside if there weren't so many annoying bugs...
Wait. The lovely Professor was asking a question...Class was starting...Oh.
"I eat like a small elephant, takes baths, and play a lot of sports." Smirking, he leaned back. It was a simple enough, really.

Hmmm, hmm, hmmmmmm. Well, he supposed his answer was the same as most. "Yeah, I guess I've got the same kinda daily routine. Shower, brush the teeth, eat, drink. Clip my nails sometimes." Which made him think....... how WEIRD would it be if someone never clipped their nails?? Like, they'd have claws or something. TALONS, more like it. His brow creased a little as he tried to picture someone like pretty Professor Bentley with huge, long talons coming out of her fingers. Huh. Yeah, that'd be weird indeed.

Penelope hoped that whatever plants they were going to be learning about would be awesome, otherwise she wasn't sure what the point of coming to class was. This one was already becoming likable for her from the simple fact that it was taking place outside though. She didn't know how she was going to handle the ones where she had to sit and stay in a room for ages.
But now the lesson was starting and the lady was asking them what they did to take care of themselves. Her hand shot up - she'd watched all the others do it, and though it seemed a bit weird, it was a bit fun too - and immediately blurted, "Eat." THAT was most important to her. And all those people who were saying "eat healthy foods" or whatever were just complicating things. Food was food, healthy or not, and eating it was the best thing you could do to take care of yourself in her opinion.

Jade tilted her head to the side as Professor Bentley asked such a personal question. What did all of this have to do with Herbology? Oh right; keeping ourselves clean probably related to keeping the plants clean...or something like that.
She watched as other students said the basic things of taking a shower, brushing their teeth, etc. Might as well... "I exercise, brush my hair and teeth, sleep, and other things as well." She nodded. Of course there were other things that she could've listed, but she couldn't think of anything else at that moment.

Selena beamed back at the professor. She rather liked the shiny badge pinned to the front of her robes. It was pretty, and green, and absolutely positively shiny and cool. She kicked her legs back and forth as she listened to the professor. She semi-believed the professor. They were in safe hands... unless ivy wanted to eat you; then you weren't safe.
What did Selena do to take care of herself on a daily basis?
"I eat chocolate. And smile. A lot." Selena said after raising her hand. A happy person lived a longer and healthier life as opposed to a miserable, sad person, right? Selena was pretty sure of it.

Seren offered Ira a welcoming nod. "It was very enjoyable, I trust you enjoyed your summer?"
"Oh I did indeed," she replied with an enthusiastic nod. "And how was yours?"
"Hello dear," she greeted again as the students continued to file in. "I most certainly did. And how was yours?"
"Welcome back Amelia," Seren greeted as the Sytherin joined their ranks. "I had a lovely break, how was yours?"
As the next few students entered, Seren bowed her head in greeting. "Hello, hello."
Oh... no greeting. No matter, manners were taught by example. "Good morning... welcome."
My my my.. now there was one active and interesting Slytherin. Certainly a personality to keep a watchful eye on. "Hello and welcome!"
"Ahh good morning Jonathan," she greeted. Refreshed? "It's amazing what a couple of months in heaven can do." Because that was exactly where she was, in heaven. "I trust you enjoyed your holidays also?"
"Hello hello!" she greeted the next couple of students to enter.
Consulting her watch, Seren wondered how many more students were going to joint hem before she should begin. Hopefully the first years wouldn't get lost. A fair few of them had already managed to find their way.
As the next two students entered Seren couldn't help but smile to herself. Two lovely Snakes. "Good morning Daichi, Zhenya," she greeted with a nod. "I had a really nice summer and plenty of sun, thank you for asking."
Seren smiled as another few girls entered the greenhouse. "Good morning ladies," she greeted warmly... even if one o them had forgotten their manners.
"Hello dear," she replied with a smile.
Watching Elise's facial expressions change from fear to enthusiasm, Seren couldn't help but laugh a little under her breath. "I had a great summer, and how about yourself?!" she asked brightly.
"Err yes, hello dear," she replied, wondering why the girl was so loud and slightly out of breath. But nevertheless, Seren appreciated her attitude and lovely demeanor.
Watching as Minerva entered, closely followed by Taylor, Seren offered them a smile. "It was a fantastic summer, thank you for asking."
"Hello dear, welcome back!" She smiled at the young Badger. "My summer was amazing, loved every second of it... and how was yours?"
"It's nice to see you too Beatrice, had a good summer?"
"Hello hello," she greeted a young Ravenclaw and Jezzabelle as they entered the greenhouse.
"Morning! it most certainly was, and I hope you enjoyed the break as well."
"Welcome back dear," she greeted with a small nod, "it's good to see you too."
"Morning Harvey," she greeted the young Ravenclaw. "It was a lovely summer, I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did."

Why on earth was Issac dodging her? and blushing? ...
"Good morning Issac!" she greeted with a slightly raised voice so that he couldn't miss it. Yeah that's right, she wasn't avoiding him...

And then there was another Lion.. perhaps she should get them all alarm clocks? "Morning Max."
AND another one! Lion boys spending too much time eating breakfast maybe? Seren smiled, partly to herself and partly to Gideon. "Glad you could make it dear," she greeted.

"Welcome back Louisa, and congratulations on your Prefectship." She was about to ask the Ravenclaw how her holidays were when she received the same question. Exciting? .. "It was a remarkable summer... thank you for asking, and how was yours?" she couldn't help but sense the girl had some sort of motive in that question, but no matter...
"It was amazing, but it's great to be back," she replied, offering her Captain a small wink. "And how was your summer?"
"Goo--...." wait.. hadn't she already?... what?...
Turning her attention to the class, she saw the girl she had greeted earlier? Twins, that was it... these were the twins. "Good morning," she finished her greeting before sneaking a looking at her class list. Dreadfully useful they were sometimes, other times not so much... Evengeline and Evangelina? ... Their parents didn't think to give them different names?

Harvey smiled "Yes I did professor.. I am glad to hear that was yours was good as well."
Harvey put up his hand to answer the question "I eat, bath and get a lot of fresh air by going out with friends" he said as he recalled his summer
Morgana would have been too shy to answer the question at first, but then everyone started answering. She didn't think she would be singled out. "I sleep at least 12 hours a day, eat letuce before anything else, brush teath, stuff like that."
What did she do to look after herself..? Well... "I... Brush my teeth, wash my face, brush my hair, eat three meals, go for a walk or something, shower... Play music." That counted, right? Music was good for the soul, apparently. But it just made Aurora happy and that counted as looking after herself. "Oh and I like to be outside... And getting fresh air is looking after yourself, isn't it?" Aurora had been so busy this summer that she'd hardly had time to spend gardening so she found it weird, being back in a greenhouse...
A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.

Despite that Daichi had really disliked Herbology in his first and second year, it had become far more interesting during his third and the Snake was sure that his fourth year would be even better. He held his arms over his school bag as his duck plushies head was sticking out , he needed to see too!
Scratching the back of his neck at the question, Daichi waited for a second before raising a hand in the air. "Well...i love eating, especially chocolate , i don't care if Lafay says its bad for you" oh yes he remembered that. "I try to drink water but i don't always and when i have a problem i go to the duck pond and talk to Floppy my friend about it!" hmm maybe not the right answer..what else. "Oh and i sleep, brush my teeth, and shower"

Hmmm. What did she do on a daily basis to look after herself. Or take care of herself. Himm. Now Indy wanted to really do a unique answer. Not just tag along with what everyone else was saying. "I attend lesson" Well on a almost daily basis anyway. Five out of the Seven days of the week. So it kind of worked. "Attending lessons allows me to gain knowledge and understanding which will enable me to properly take care of myself when I am older." See. It was a nice sensible answer. "Oh...and I try to stay away from my brother's tarantula because that is not good for my health..." Hehe. She loved Matilda, but she spider was a bit scary.

Since she'd walked in the door, Sierra had been off to the side, surveying the group of students around her. It was really just something to pass the time while she waited for the lesson to start. When it finally did, her eyes flickered up to Bentley, who had paused in front of the group of students.
What did she do on a daily basis to take care of herself? Well, a lot of things, and it all depended on just what sort of angle Bentley wanted them to look at. Was she talking about personal health? If so, then Sierra did the usual things, like taking a shower and brushing her teeth. Was she talking about personal gain? If so, Sierra did a lot with that, too. What Slytherin didn't wanted to get a step ahead?
Finally, she raised her hand. "I do all the usual things, like sleeping, eating, and taking care of my health," she said. "...and of course I look for ways to get a step ahead. Achievements, goals, and the sort." Then she paused, and because this was a class and she felt obligated to, she added, "...and I go to class and do my homework, too."
