Smack in the middle of the library, tables and chairs have been moved around to make what looks like a large study area. Its location was clearly off kilter and could not exactly be called comfy at all. Even some of the bookshelves have a strange alignment, as though to properly accommodate the makeshift study area.
If that sight alone wasn't enough to make Mr. Kitridge's blood boil, a large number of reading materials have been taken off the shelves and placed on each table.
On one table sits a stack of extremely faded newspapers that have turned almost yellow with age. Further along the same table more stacks of articles are placed, yet each stack seems a bit more recent than the last.
Resting on another table are books about Hogwarts history, and a fair few copies of the popular Hogwarts, A History itself. Located on the tables across, beside and behind were similar sized stacks of books, again and again.
Leaning against one of the tables that had a couple bundles of magazines was, surprisingly, the History of Magic teacher. Want to find out what this was all about? Just go ahead and ask, he may actually need some need your help after all.

Oh, come on, Professor Grumpy-Pants. Why did he have to shoot down every idea Milton had? It looked suspicious, so Milton was checking it out. And he wasn't going to stop just because the Headmaster in 1753 possibly just 'didn't want it written for some reason.' So. Professor. You've been ignored.

She really hadn't thought the headaches were anything out of the ordinary to be honest. They were not all that persistent in her case and, well, Kurumi didn't think that there was anything conclusive to be made about headaches alone. Lots of people got them. "Comas?" she asked as she peered over a little to see just what he was reading. "But...when you are in a coma I've read cases where people were aware to some level of what was going on around them. It is your body's way of slowing you down so you can heal..." Which had little to no connection to what had happened to Kurumi. At least she felt so. "Not to mention that people in comas don't all wake up at essentially the exact same moment..."
When Milton asked about memory loss her cheeks flushed instantly and she looked down at the random newspaper article she had been reading from the 1700's. "Um...well...um...doesn't a black out require some sort of...head trauma..." Maybe she should be looking at some medical magazines while she was in here.
"Do you remember a ball that Toddles, the baby house elf, was throwing around the Opening Feast?" Kurumi asked. The creepy orb that had seemed to practically seek her out in the corridor last term. "The Headmaster has already been investigating it and, well, it shouldn't be too much of a concern now because...it is in pieces." However that had happened the Gryffindor didn't know. She just saw it in pieces in the observation ward.
Okay, so maybe Kurumi's headaches weren't anything out of the ordinary. Just OWLs stress. When she questioned the comas, Milton pointed to the part in his textbook where it mentioned them. And she was right, as far as Milton knew, that people in comas are a little bit aware of what's going on. Or at least that they have been 'sleeping'. "That's true, but on the previous page it says that the medical records concerning this case were 'spotty and unsophisticated'. So these 'comas' that these students were in could possibly be related to what happened to you and the other students." Milton looked at Kurumi. It was entirely possible. The whole story of 1753 and the black mold infestation was rather fishy. There was a lot of missing information that could have been due to people freezing and missing chunks of life because of it.
And about blackouts... Head trauma? "I don't think so... Not necessarily. I think anyone can get blackouts depending on stress, environment, lack of sleep... mold infestations." Milton shrugged. He wasn't a doctor though.
Oh yeah, that baby house elf. Milton almost forgot. Furrowing his eyebrows, Milton thought about that ball/orb thingy. The Headmaster had seemed pretty concerned about it, especially since he said he was investigating in it. Wait... Milton looked up at Kurumi. "The ball broke?" He furrowed his eyebrows again. "When did that happen? And did anything happen to that baby house elf?"

Alyssa blinked. 'Don't need to get crabby about it, Prof. I'm trying my best with only the resources I have. My brain plus what I am reading here.' Alyssa thought to herself. She sighed and continued to find information about what would have caused the students to freeze or whether there was any information in any of the Hogwarts, History of Magic articles that related to such a similar incident, when she noticed that Milton was also researching the same articles as her, and so she listened as she heard what he was discussing with the Professor about what he had found
She waited until Milton was done talking with the Professor before she leaned over and asked him. "What have you found out so far, Milton?"
A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.

As Kurumi and...Wilton was his name right? Wilton..Hilton anyways it was something like that from what Daichi had heard during lessons, were talking to each other, the Slytherin used this oppertunity to check the scroll again. "i... Don't think so..." he answered slowly as if he wasn't sure himself. " i mean, would you record a whole school freezing for the public to see? It has probably been put in a deafpot i think....and" he rolled the scroll a bit open until it unscrolled again. "17 what was it? 53 is a loooong time ago so..." he stopped talking and sighed while he pushed his big nerd glasses up. "where have you find that scroll? Maybe there is more we can read about this scroll?"

Silence From the Castle Finally Ends
21 June 1754
Perhaps we shall never know why the professors and students at Hogwarts School have refused contact with those outside the castle for the past school year, although speculation from parents and the Board of Governors abound. Mercurio Medfast, governor for four years and father of two Hogwarts students, commented for the Hogsmeade Harbinger, "It is of our opinion that Headmaster Blacio is hoping to make use of the affection we have for our families through this misguided and immature show of temper. My children would most certainly have returned for Christmas and Easter if under their own power. What he hopes to prove by exerting his authority is unknown."
Indeed, the Headmaster and his staff prove elusive for those seeking comment regarding the silence over the course of the term, which only seems to further the speculation that Dark Magic was performed upon the students in residence at the bequest of the Head. Head Boy and seventh year Slytherin Herald Escalante, class of 1753, agreed to speak to the Harbinger, although his untruths made any testimony implausible. Herald Escalante insisted that he was still the Head Boy, despite his supposed graduation a year ago. Ravenclaw Daniel Westbrooks, supposed sixth year, refused opportunity to comment, insisting he had OWLs for which to prepare, and Hufflepuff Amarantha de Talone, also class of 1753, would only say that they had been asked by the staff not to speak with journalists.
Lies? Refusal to speak? The Harbinger begs the indulgence of its readers in this story, as hard facts are impossible to find. What we know is that this is a mystery that may never be solved, especially with students sworn to secrecy and professors playing as willing pawns in Blacio's game.

Siiiiiiiiigh. Huuuuuuuuuuuuff. Siiiiiiiiigh.
Louisa was listening to everyone sharing thoughts, theories, and conclusions. Nothing of this made sense. And... mold?!!!! An article about that shouldn't be considered really. When the girl tossed the magazine in her hand to the table, her eye caught something in the air... down toward the ground.
A piece of paper.
She walked over to it and grabbed the tattered newspaper piece. Shutting off everyone's voices out, the Ravenclaw read it.
...
"Err... guys? Listen... there is something creepy and interesting in this article." She looked up at them and stretched her hand out, "Do we even consider this?" Louisa's eyes found Vickers'... he was the one leading the discussion mainly so.. yeah... what Vickers?

Vickers peered carefully at the next page of their History book, brows furrowing thoughtfully as the other Ravenclaw boy mentions about the missing roster for 1753. "Could it be something as simple as an oversight?" he murmured doubtfully "I mean it is usually school protocol to take the student roster... not something to simply forget about for a year..."
He was still perusing the pages of the chapter when he heard the word orb again. He rarely spoke of it for the practical reason that he knew nothing of it, at least nothing significant. It never occurred to this Ravenclaw that the freezing trend and the crystalline ball were even connected. But now apparently that thing was broken and... he still didnt know how that connected to anything.

He listened to Louisa read passages aloud and caught her eye. He stared back clueless. "Can I read that?" he uttered shifting over the table and so he can read the delicate parchment carefully. "Article was published in June of 1754..." he murmured "Interviews of student and staff-- wait did that Head Boy say he was still student leader when he should've graduated the previous term?... And this one kept insisting about OWLs when he should've been done with that a year ago too..."
He leans back onto his seat, brows furrowed, tapping his fingers unconciously against the pages of the book in front of him "We have an entire school year's roster missing, and students that did manage to talk about it are seemingly missing a whole year of their lives...." I don't think it has something to do with the Chamber of secrets.... daichi answered Glenn back as he flipped a page. i mean, it had been a Basilisk who froze the students and when we went down to the chambers last year during class there wasn't one. because it had been killed, right? Mweh it was the best he could remember reading About it.
Glenn nodded vaguely, still staring at the pile of magazines. Well - at least it isn't a basilisk. That would be scary. Having a creature that went around well... killing people with literally a glance was not cool. Not cool at all.

Ooh. What had they found? Glenn got up from her seat and stood over near the others who were looking at some article. "That's.. weird." She said, reading the article upside down. Imagine losing a year of your life?!

Alyssa did find it strange that there was an entire school year's roster missing from the school book but most important of all was that article from the Daily Prophet. People insisting that they were doing things that they would have been doing a year ago when it fact a year had passed. Vickers was right. It was as if they had been stuck in time for almost a year and didn't even know it. She thought for awhile before suggesting.
"Vickers, you mentioned something about mold infestation. Is there any mention about whether anybody investigated the properties of the mold like if it contained any magical properties that would cause those infected by it to be frozen in time?"
"Or what even caused the flooding? I'm assuming the mold came after the flooding and that the water came from the Lake. Was there any investigation done at the Lake to check the water content? Is there any mention about strange reports or occurrences that happened with the Merpeople?"
Alyssa knew that she had posed a lot of questions. But that was her brain just rambling out all possibilities.

At the mention of something creepy, Milton's head turned to Louisa and the newly found article she had. So reporters had tried to ask the Headmaster about the so silent school year where the student roll wasn't taken. That was definitely something. Why hadn't the Headmaster said anything all term? And why hadn't he taken roll count? What if he didn't count the students because they had all... frozen?
Milton stood up and went to stand behind Louisa so get a better look at the article she was reading. He read along just as Vickers was summarizing it. 'Herald Escalante insisted that he was still the Head Boy, despite his supposed graduation a year ago. Ravenclaw Daniel Westbrooks, supposed sixth year, refused opportunity to comment, insisting he had OWLs for which to prepare, and Hufflepuff Amarantha de Talone, also class of 1753, would only say that they had been asked by the staff not to speak with journalists.'
Milton pursed his lips. Kurumi had said that she was in potions class and then in the same moment, she somehow was in the hospital. Like no time had passed at all. "They had to be frozen... Are there anymore articles from that time period?" Milton mumbled, thinking out loud as he shuffled through a pile of newspaper articles. There had to be more investigation on this. Something. There had to be something. Because they were getting closer... Kind of.
Sarah was rather stunned by this article "Maybe 1753 never took place, as every was frozeb, hence it not apearing on student roll, also the headboy being headboy after he graduated and boy taking OWLs in sixth year. They had not really done anything the previous year" said Sarah.

Scabior's attention lifted from his current newspaper as some of the students began reading something from a new article. He couldn't deny that it contained information that sounded almost similar to their case.
Students being confused and thinking one thing, when really a year had gone by and they hadn't even noticed. It sounded similar.
"Theres a possibility of it being dark magic." Scabior replied sending a nod Vickers way. At the current moment, really anything was possible. He was certain it was not a Basilisk but Dark Magic? That sounded plausible. Making his way toward the group he quickly scanned the news article.
....Not only did it speak about unknown time gaps but there was also something interesting within the piece.
Scabior leaned over and pointed to a particular named. The Headboy's. "Peculiar that the Headboy at the time of the strange happenings has the same surname as one of our current Prefects."

Alyssa looked up as the Professor finally spoke up after reading the article. She too had noticed that the last name of the Headboy at that time was the same as Prefect Kennedy Escalante. Was it just coincidence or was Kennedy a descendent of this headboy. "Professor do think that Kennedy might be related to this Headboy and may have heard stories of what happened that fateful day? Stories that were passed down from generation to generation?"
"Do you think we should ask him?" Alyssa knew that she was asking a lot of questions but she was getting excited again.

Glancing at Alyssa he considered her questions "The biggest hurdle to pinning this to a mold issue is that most if not everybody should be affected, not just a handful. And although the worst of it looked to be our time at Potions Class, how do you explain Professors Vindictus and Williamson? They are outside most of the time, far away from any kind of mold exposure if such a thing has recurred." He flipped through the pages of the History book again "There wasnt anything here that explains why the Dungeons flooded in 1753... only the incident back in 2068 with the Merpeople." Could the 1753 incident have been the Merpeople's first attempt at the Hogwarts attack? Too many presumptions going down that route...
SPOILER!!: Scabior and please namedrop Milton so Vickers would know what to call him? :P

Kind of.

He nodded his head as his gaze shifted from his fellow Ravenclaw to the Historian "Dark Magic and freezing... memory gaps or people seemingly losing the concept of time..." he murmured quietly, pondering how any of those are connecting "...What is it some kind of curse?.. But for what gain? Dark Magic almost always benefits something from its victims... but what?"
Then he shifted his eyes to that part of the article the Professor was pointing at "Right--Prefect Kennedy...is thaat not a coincidence Professor?" its what he thought on the first reading of the article "Is he related to the former Head Boy? Knew of similar occurrences beforehand? He seemed just as confused down at Potions Class as the rest of us. I mean, its kind of a stretch to think that Prefect Kennedy was responsible for any of the freezing that happened in the Dungeons.... or even anywhere around the school." at least thats from what he had managed to observed, which wasnt much given he was far more concerned with not contracting what he believed at the time was a contagion. He shifted his gaze back at the Professor, if there was any Slytherin he was suspecting it would be Lafay or the man before them. Or maybe even Sierra. Because she was mean, but then maybe thats just his fears talking.

Alyssa listened as Vickers answered her multitude of questions. 'This guy's a genius the way he thinks out things.' Alyssa thought to herself as she heard him talk. Everything he said made sense.
"That's true, Kennedy did look surprised during potions class when the freezing started to happen and yes it does make sense, not everyone who was frozen, was in potions class. Professor Willamson and Vindictus weren't." Alyssa agreed with Vickers.
"Maybe Kennedy may not be aware of what is happening and I seriously doubt that he is causing all this because he's too nice...even if he's a Slytherin. However, maybe he can find out from his family members whether there has been any mention in the past about what happened during that missing year. I mean it doesn't hurt to ask right?"
"Or....maybe someone is like the carrier. They are causing the stuff that is happening but they aren't aware that they are doing it. But why now though, and why only certain people and not everyone?" Alyssa continued to think aloud.
"Maybe we need to ask out those who were frozen, what they did this term and maybe last term, and try to find something common that they all did or touched or someone they all came into contact with this term before they became frozen." Alyssa suggested.

Stories that were passed down from generation to generation?"
"Do you think we should ask him?" Alyssa knew that she was asking a lot of questions but she was getting excited again.
Scabior shrugged. "I doubt it because the boy couldn't even remember that he had graduated." So why would their be stories.
"But you can ask him if you want. Go see if you can find him now." Hopefully the Prefect was not in the common room.

Dark magic and a curse. "The idea of not farfetched. I mean the idea of a curse it's actually very practical." There was someone of a troubled look on his face. What could be benefited from students freezing indeed. "That question, what could the potential dark curse gain from the frozen victims....think about it." Scabior nodded, turning his head to everyone as he said it it could be helpful if they were on the right track. "And also think about who could possibility benefit from the curse?" Both mysteries and both were questions that went hand in hand.
"It seems a bit to eerie to be a coincidence to be honest." He thought some more, eyes focused on the article before pointing to a few names. "I do not believe that he is responsible, but perhaps his name might be important? Perhaps all the names of students mentioned in the article could be important." He could search them up! Yearbooks and all of that.
Scabior glanced at his watch and well...time had really flown by!"I suggest you all should be heading to your common rooms, so you aren't caught up late after hours." He grabbed the old article from the Ravenclaw's hand and began duplicating it, till there was a large pile of copies and only he held the original.
"I appreciate all your help." He did and that was even a surprise to him. "Please take some of the duplicated articles and spread them around, the school, and think about everything that was talked about today." The dark magic possibility and student names in the article especially. "And if anything comes to your attention please send an owl to me or the Headmaster....me preferability....the headmaster knows nothing." Without another word, Scabior turned and began to rearrange the empty tables once more. Leobald would have a heart attack if he saw the place like this.

Alyssa took some of the articles that the Professor had suggested and placed them in her backpack. She was glad that the Professor had agreed with her about asking Kennedy whether he had heard of anything about what happened in the past with his ancestor. She made it a point to look for him the moment she left the library.
The only thing question was did the Professor want to talk to him himself, or did he want her to speak with Kennedy, find out what he knew and then return to tell the Professor. She decided that she would look for Kennedy first and then if he did have any information, that she could ask him to tell Professor Scabior.
Alyssa quickly got and said,"Thanks for allowing us to help you, Professor. I hope that you'll be able to find the cause of this epidemic soon." Then she got up and left the library on a mission. To track down Prefect Kennedy.
