The glittering night sky is clear and visible through the enchanted ceiling, and the floating candles bedeck the entire hall in a warm golden light. All seems well with the world, aside from the empty plates still waiting for food to appear.
A girl sitting next to her snapped Avery out of her day dream and back into the castle.
"What? Oh hey, I'm Avery!" She gave her half smile and held out a hand for Eliza too shake. She looked a bit older than Avery but, she didn't mind at all.
"You don't exactly look like you belong here. You must be a Snake!" Avery shouted excited at her discovery. She pulled her long blonde hair and reminded herself to be nice. How awesome would it be to have a Slytherin friend.
Eliza giggled. "Well, I may be a third-year, but sometimes even I manage to find myself.... Sat at the wrong table..." She giggled, it sounded kind of pathetic, but Hogwarts was massive, and even finding her way around the castle could be a job. She She swished her long blonde hair over her shoulder, she had been growing it and her hair reacher her mid-back, though it was a nightmare towash, she would never cut it!
She smiled. "So what's life like as a Lions?" she asked, genuinely curious. She'd always found the other hoouses a point of intrest, obviously she was a happy Snake, but you couldn't help wonder.

Seeing yet another new Gryffindor join their table, Kurumi applauded loudly for the young girl. What had the hat said her name was? Sarah? "Congratulations and welcome to Gryffindor," Kurumi smiled as the charmed another one of her levitating Gryffindor crest cookies towards her.
Maybe she shouldn't have done that. Kurumi cocked her head to the side again, watching Lewis for a moment and trying to figure out what exactly had just happened. The blush on her cheeks expanded when he continued to encourage her, but it was apparent to Kurumi by his tone and expression that he was really unsure and uncomfortable about what was going on. Ironically, Kurumi suddenly began to feel the same.
"Um...Lewis...I was...joking," she said with a small smile. Clearly, she still hadn't gotten a proper grasp on how to do this properly. "Pulling you to the ground in the middle of the prefect compartment while diving after Walnut because he is peeing on someone isn't exactly how I want to spend time with you." That should...clear the air, right? Unless Kurumi was just now discovering that Lewis had a hidden talent for acting. Following in Treyen's footsteps in a way. She leaned back a bit, tugging on her hair as she did and tangled her fingers through her hair as its silky texture caught the candlelight just so.
Completely unaware of the reactions Lewis was having to their physical contact, her eyes watered slightly as she hugged him just a bit tighter and felt him return it softly. Really, Lewis had no idea just how important the journal was to her. She still hadn't read it from cover to cover, not feeling strong enough to do so just yet. She had only read the first few entries and then the last one, but almost nothing in between besides flipping through and taking note of what pictures and other paper items her mother had included. All memories. All with a story.
Inhaling sharply again, Kurumi chewed on her lip some more and looked down at the journal once again. Her fingers traced the binding again before setting the palm of her hand on its cover. "Really, Lewis, I don't know how to repay you for finding this and bringing it back to me," she whispered again, looking back at him now. Despite them not physically touching right now, Kurumi still felt like this moment right now was very intimate. At least to her. Awkwardness aside and the fact that she still did want to kiss his cheek Kurumi sort of hope that he realized that he had just saved a piece of herself by finding the journal and giving it to her. Not only a piece of herself, but the last living memory of her mother.
Hearing him say that he should probably get back to his own table, Kurumi could only nod in agreement. She had already taken up too much of his time. He wasn't just Lewis anymore, he was Prefect Rasting and he had a duty to his house to be at the Hufflepuff table. "O-Okay," she said with a small smile. "Thank you...again..." Kurumi hugged the journal to her chest and closed her eyes for just a moment as she held it tight. Opening her eyes again, Kurumi reached out to grab onto Lewis' robes before he had completely left. "Lewis...I...I am talking with him tomorrow... to tell him everything," she whispered, hoping that her eyes were conveying just what exactly she was talking about. "So...please..." Remember your promise.
"Aw, how cute," Kurumi giggled as she already began forming an image of Jezz's cat in her mind. Next to dragons, cats were high up there on Kurumi's ranking of magical creatures. "Don't remind me," Kurumi groaned as she debating about pounding her head on the table. "He has never peed on another creature and seems to keep to shoes and robes." For now at least. There was just no telling with Walnut it seemed.
"I don't have them all memorized," she laughed, shaking her head and tossing her long black hair over her shoulder in the process. "I keep a cookie journal with all my recipes." And it was a rather thick journal at the moment....and running out of pages. She should look into adding more soon.
Kurumi leaned forward a bit to get a better look at where Maxwell was pointing. Oh, that didn't look pleasant. "The Whomping Willow can certainly be.... temperamental..." She personally hadn't had any problems with the tree and had actually only had pleasant experiences with it. Maybe it had been because she had bowed to it when she had first met it? Maybe this was something that she should tell the first years...just in case? "At least that is all it gave you?" Positive thinking!
"You don't even have to wait that long, just look for them every Wednesday in the common room," she chirped in reply. Of course, they wouldn't be the exact same Gryffindor cookies, but there would be cookies.
"It's good to see you too," Kurumi smiled as the younger girl moved towards her. "You ready for the term?" Or nervous? Any issues Kurumi should know about?
Jezzabelle let out a little laugh as Kurumi groaned over her cat. "Well you know how they are. They don't have owners, just staff. Although, with the way my cat follows me around you'd think she was a duck." A fluffy lovable duck. She shook her head, "Well, I don't know how she'll handle Walnut. I've never seen her around other cats and if he did pee on her I wouldn't know what to expect."
Hmm? A cookie journal. "Well that makes more sense." Though Jezz would bet her left leg that if Kurumi tried without the journal she could succeed. Yep. That and maybe she would make a journal for the older lion. place pictures of cookies on it or something. You could never have too much writing space.

"Alright...if ye insist," he spoke, giving in. At least it wasn't some awkward nickname like Selina and Violet lavished on him. Though Gideon wasn't so sure about how he felt to be considered a 'smarty pants' as the young boy chose to consider him.
Gideon nodded as Anya spoke up about Tag's story of being a leprechaun. He got it, but was simply going along with it rather then get him upset, not knowing what response he'd get. "No problem," the prefect replied, nodding simply as Tag pressed a finger to his own lips to emphasize the role of the secret. Whatever he said.
Gideon listened as Anya explained her summer to him. "Sounds like a lot of fun," he remarked with a smile. "Can't say mine was quite as...well-rounded but some traveling did occur to visit family. And it was fun." Time in Romania with Andy...a visit with his grandparents and some penpals in Portugal...not to mention hanging out around Britain.
He echoed the girl's laughter despite it being at his expense seeing as it was all in good fun. "I shall certainly try it some time," Gideon agreed, silently wondering what the reaction would be from his other half.
Ah yes...the epic division between wanting summer to continue forever and wanting to return to school as soon as you could. "Mine was alright," he answered, nothing necessarily standing out for him memory-wise though. "Surprising but alright." Gideon had thought getting his grades would be the highlight, but the surprise of the badge had hit at the same time. "Though I have to agree its always good to come back here."
As it quieted down for a bit, Gideon settled down into his seat. He took a sip from a water goblet after pouring him some, wondering when the feast would in fact begin. The Gryffindor glanced up at the staff table and noticed the returning faces and a few new that he of course didn't recognize and wondered who was Astronomy. Or where was Astronomy.
Turning back to the table, he couldn 't help overhear a new girl speaking with Jezzabelle about being overwhelmed. "Sorry to hear that," he said quietly, hoping she didn't mind another person hearing. "I'm Gideon, one of the house prefects. And if there is anything I can do to help just ask," he offered with a polite smile. It was the least he could do.
Before he could hear an answer if there was indeed any questions Gideon's hearing was occupied by a very familiar yell. He couldn't help laughing at her with a shake of his head in response to her antics. So far she was the one Gryffindor leader being the most outspoken. But then again...that was Selina.
"Hello Captain!!" he called back smiling at his girlfriend.
Jezzabelle smiled and said, "That's good. I can see the surprising part," she finally said looking at the Prefect badge that he had on. "Congratulations by the way." She laughed to herself about how him, Kurumi, and Selina were like a trio now. All three had a badge.

Jezzabelle turned to finally see another face. Wow, so many people so fast she felt her head spin a little. Was this how Kurumi felt? She gave a big smile and looked at the girl who appeared to be her age. "I'm Jezzabelle. It's nice to meet you Avery." She took the extended hand and shook it.

Eliza laughed. She didn't think on it much, but Slytherins were known for being kind of mean. "To me we're just a pretty normal bunch of kids," she said honestly "I guess most of us are a bit competitive, but we're not as evil as you think, well not all of us." she winked. "Do you lions spend all your time being brave and slaying dragons?" she joked.
She had actually kind of liked the way people thought they were all evil at first, but really she knew most Slytherins were just pure-bloods who were obeying their parents. It was weird having friends in other houses, she hadn't really thought on it before, but she was kind of worried there'd be too much rivalry, but actually, they other houses were a bit more laid-back.
Sheesh, it was as if they were a different species. Species of awesome, though. Erm... Theodore crossed his legs, covering his slight wet patch from earlier and smiled CREEPILY at the girl, "Hello, I'm Theodore and I am a GRYFFINDOR."
Yes... it was working. Brainwashhhhhhhhhhin'!
She was looking at him funnily, though. Meerppp.
"Well you obviously are not a gryffindor so you might as well tell me were you are from." She said slowly frowning slightly at the creepy little boy. He smelled funny like he had ran into something strange. She smiled tightly at the boy and went to playing with her yummy food as she waited for an interesting response from this kind of fascinating young man.

Avery laughed enjoying the conversation. Most people thought the Gryfindors were all brawn and no brain but we were smart and caring, Avery was also surprised when she first got here. She thought she would be sorted into Slytherin because of her brother and parents all being from that house and Avery being a pureblood.

"Why am I OBVIOUSLY not a Gryffindor?"
Did they have a distinct smell? Appearance? Was that it?!?! Theodore wasn't sorted there because he looked like an evil toad? Ouchhh, he may have to write a letter to the head teacher for that one.

All of the eyes that flickered to Selina when she yelled out amongst the tables were very telling. Some eyes looked at her as the lunatic Captain, others chuckled, while some simply ignored her. However, Selina did not care. She was a proud Gryffindor and would roar all day long if the looks would not be so severely negative. But it was the opening feast and if she wanted to be loud she was going to be bloody loud. GO GO GRYFFINDOR!

"Hello Captain!!" he called back smiling at his girlfriend.
Her attention snapped away from her thoughts when she heard an equally loud yell catch her attention with the title of Captain. The voice sounded familiar, yet she could not believe that the voice yelling was actually yelling. It was so unlike the person she assumed to be the owner of the voice because, honestly, she knew it had to be him because no one else had a thick Scottish accent.
When she turned to the owner of the voice, she was surprised to see that she was right and that Gideon was yelling across the Hall to her. A broad grin grew across her face, she was pleasantly surprised to see him screaming to her in a very unlike Gideon manner. It was amusing to say the least.
So she walked over to the Gryffindor Prefect and threw her hands on her hips in a joking fashion, "Yes, hello... Prefect Gert. Has anyone ever told you that you shouldn't scream in public? It's rude..."
Smirk, Smirk.

Selina then heard a little voice say her name. The redhead surveyed the room to see if she could point out the source of the meek hello. Finally, she honed in on the speaker and was thrilled to see Lily again. The younger girl was so sweet and it was always nice to see familiar faces.
In response to the girl, she replied, "I'm pretty good, Lily. How about yourself?" She was actually interested.

Another voice! Perhaps, Selina should not have SCREAMED at the top of her lungs to greet everyone at the table, then again she had no regrets. If anything it was fun to just yell in the middle of the Great Hall and not worry about reprecusions of Professors or worse yet the Headmaster. But regardless, a voice had beckoned her.
She shifted through the hoard of lions to find the voice, until she happened upon little Jezz, Kurumi's little sister. The fifth year smiled at her and gave a nod, "Hello Jezz, how are you?" Any little sister of Kurumi was okay by Selina's standards.

Speaking of Kurumi, she then heard her best friend yell to her about her loud entrance. She caught the eye roll and the chuckle, which only made Selina laugh herself and throw a smirk in her friend's direction. It was actually nice to see Kurumi laugh, but that was a thought that she was going to hold in the recess of her mind. There was no need to drag any conversation down.
But she did want to see her sister lion terribly, so she RAN walked briskly over to the girl before she stopped short right in front of the Prefect's face. Wiggling her eyebrows, Selina retorted, "Yes... it is! Come on, if I'm not the mascot for Gryffindor who will be?"
Keeping her eyes on Kurumi's face, the redhead stuck her hand out, grabbed a cookie, and took a bite swallowed it hole. "Nice cookies, Rumi... as always."

She didn't mind it to be honest, she used to live in Charing Cross, and would spend all her time in Diagon Alley doing whatever, there were almost always kids to play with there. Actually she'd had a pretty decent childhood, only her parents had to screw that up by getting divorced, selling their house and while her Dad moved to Sweden, her Mum remarried some American. You really should not leave parents alone.

SPOILER!!: Kurumi
Kurumi sort of just stared at Tag for a moment wondering if he had somehow been able to read her mind. Then again, she was always being told that she wasn't the most difficult of people to read, metamorphagus abilities aside. Instead, she offered a polite giggle and just let the whole game conversation go. "Well, it is a very unique name so it should be easy to remember."
Ignore that Kurumi was already very good with remembering names as it was.
She was back to blushing, rather furiously at that, when he congratulated her on the badge. "Um...thank you," she replied with another polite bow of the head. Really, she was just glad that she could help and that she was able to follow in Cam's footsteps. She really missed that lioness. "I look forward to it," she replied with a small wink. You know, tutoring if he needed it or just someone to practice spells with.
Flicking her wand skyward towards the dancing cookies so that they also spun slowly from time to time, she returned her chocolate gaze to Tag and nodded. "I did and you can expect more." Like...twice a week in the common room at least.
"Thank you. I like my name. As far as I know no one has my name so I'm one of a kind." He said happily smiling at her. And if someone did have his name, especially here at Hogwarts, they'd have to go through him first so that this person can be confirmed a different name. No one was allowed to have his name. No one.
An she was back to bowing again. He wanted to ask why she constantly bowed but he figured that was her form of thank you. "You look forward to studying? That's a bit weird. But, whatever floats your boat is ok with me." Maybe she was supposed to be put in the birdie house, like Anya mentioned earlier. For smart people. Real smart people loved studying.
"Wow. You bake-well, they're really really good." Tag spoke up in awed admiration. Maybe she should stay away from him, a lot of the time. If she baked cookies all the time there won't be any left for his house mates. "More?! I'll be expecting them very soon."
SPOILER!!: Gideon
"Yes. I do. I do insist your name should be Mr. Gideon." Besides, he was Prefect. His name had to be extra special."Its an extra special name for the extra special Prefect man."
Thank goodness Gideon could be trusted with. Something like that getting out could get Tag into a lot of trouble. And not the good kind of trouble where he could have an adventure a bad,bad trouble. He winked in an amusing manner and gave the older student a thumbs up.
SPOILER!!: Loud Selina
Bloody tie! Selina was severely out of practice tying her tie now that the term had started up again. She was so consumed trying to fix her tie that she did not even bother to look up at the Great Hall when she had entered. In fact, her annoyance at the tie had prevented the redhead from reaching the hall in time to great new students. This thing was giving her a lot more trouble than it was worth.
When it finally gave way and folded into the perfect formation Selina smirked and looked up at her surroundings. She was shocked to see the Great Hall in full swing with new students and old students conversing after a summer apart. Was she really that terribly late? Merlin, she had not estimated that she would have taken that long. Her eyes narrowed and darted down to her tie. It was the fabrics fault that she was late. Summer had made her out of practice with the thing, but now that a new term had started she would no doubt be fine with it in a few days time.
The hall was full of familiar faces, but the only faces that really jumped out to her were the ones at the Gryffindor table. The redhead made her way over to the table and nodded at all of the first years. She would not bite. If anyone wanted to come and talk to her especially about Quidditch she would have no problem with that. Along with the new faces came the old. It looked like everyone was here.
So she cupped her mouth and yelled out, "Hello Gryffindor!!!"
Tag was merrily enjoying his cookie to its fullest when a voice echoed throughout the hall. Who would scream so loud and why? Grant it, the room was already chattering away with the low sounds of buzzing from everyone speaking about their summer or making new friends at their tables.
He finally found the voice and spotted it came from a tall, redheaded girl. "You're really loud. Not that its a bad thing." He told this person. For a girl she really had strong lungs that filled up the entire room, or at least the lion table.

Ronnie skipped to the Gryffindor table, a smile on her face. She was so happy to be back, ant to see all her friends again. She threw her arms in the air as she got up to the table. "Hello, Lions!" she said, taking a seat.

Avery smiled hoping she wasn't stepping on tentative ground. Her stomach felt warm and alive with the yummy food that she had eaten. It reminded her of home and the fights.
"Yeah, I think it's kind of the best, no siblings to fight with, and I won't have to split my inheritance..." she joked. "Actually, I didn't really get lonely, I lived pretty near Diagon Alley and my mum and dad didn't mind me hanging around there, there were always plenty of kids up for something." She grabbed a cupcake of a massive pile and took a bite from one end, oh, these were nice. She licked any stray icing off her lips.

"You're lucky, I grew up being a proper lady and hanging out near my family. Ugh i didn't even talk to a real boy until last year when I came here. My parents were also really angry when I was sorted into Gryffindor. My family comes from a long line of Slytherine." Avery shook her head making her blonde hair clash with Eliza's and laughing she said "I am sorry, I am super clumsy! So whats your favorite subject in school? Or do you not really have one?" Avery inquired licking her chapped lips thinking.

"My parents are kind of dark wizards, but y'know, they don't really mind as long as I don't 'tarnish the family name'. Oh and as long as I'm Slytherin of course." Eliza laughed and said "I guess I kind of like using my wand, probably Charms and Potions, I can't stand Divination and CoMC though!"
"So...please..." Remember your promise
It made him feel both relieved and nervous that Kurumi was now back to blushing and looking confused too. She'd just seemed so confident about all of this. Whatever this was. Which was what Lewis had been trying to figure out by giving her a blank look. He was slowly suspecting that they were talking about two different things. This wasn't about hand-holding, was it? Or maybe it was and she was just-
Okay, it wasn't. Or was. But not really? At least now she said she'd been joking. And once again he'd completely missed it. "Oh." Even though he was trying his best to hide it there was a hint of defeat in his voice as he blushed a little more and bit his lip again. Hang on, what was she..."What?!" Lewis echoed his words from a moment ago, this time even more surprised and confused than before. What was she talking about? Pulling him to the...pulling him to the ground was not how she wanted to spend her time with him? Why would she...had he just implied that she...oh no. "I didn't...I was talking...that's not what I..." Oh Merlin! But how was he to know that she was talking about accidentally pulling him to the ground on the train. Which he was pretty sure had never happened. He'd remember that after all.
Lewis was slowly starting to calm down again until his heartbeat was almost back to normal. It had just been a little unexpected that was all. The hug did last a little longer than normal thank-you-hugs - not that he was an expert or anything - but he didn't mind. If it hadn't been for her pause before pulling away again fully, he wouldn't even have blushed anymore. Ways to repay him? There were a few things that came to mind, one in particular but he stopped himself from saying any of them out loud. There just was nothing to repay him for. "I...really, you don't have to do anything. I was just...lucky. Lucky to find it." Yeah, lucky. Or something.
At least Kurumi seemed to agree with him about leaving the Gryffindor table. Lewis was pretty sure that she could've easily convinced him to stay if she wanted him to. Which now that he got to think of it was just a little bit scary. "You're welcome." He said as lightly as possible with a small smile, trying to keep this whole situation from becoming too awkward. Especially because there really wasn't anything too awkward about it. It was just...them somehow. Things tended to get a little awkward whenever they were in the same room for too long.
Getting off the bench Lewis wasn't turned around just yet, on the verge of telling Kurumi goodbye - for now anyway - when she suddenly took hold of his robes, stopping him from moving at all. Only what she said made his heart skip a beat and him hold his breath for a moment without realizing it. She was going to...tell him? His eyes were back on hers, searching them for some sort of clue as to what she was referring to. Or who rather. Was she really...there was no other options was there? The only thing stopping him from looking over at the Slytherin table was the fact that he was somehow unable to avert his eyes away from hers. "A-are you...sure?" And most of all, what did that mean?
"My parents are kind of dark wizards, but y'know, they don't really mind as long as I don't 'tarnish the family name'. Oh and as long as I'm Slytherin of course." Eliza laughed and said "I guess I kind of like using my wand, probably Charms and Potions, I can't stand Divination and CoMC though!"
" Yeah those are really fun! Haha I hate Arithmacy because math is my worst subject. I love Astronomy though. And Our parents would probably like each other!" Avery laughed and picked at her half eaten cupcake missing her eldest brothers dog, Ginger.
"You have any pets?" She asked thinking of Ginger playing with her.

Gideon added his own soft chuckles to the boy's laughter. "Ah, third year. The year ye get to pick electives and go to Hogsmeade for the first time," he remarked remembering that from his own years. "Well I think it shall be. and we'll certainly be trying out best with the house."

Gideon nodded in silent confirmation as Jezzabelle figured out what was the surprising part. His fingers reaching up and absently touching along the edge of the badge. "Thanks."

Thank goodness Gideon could be trusted with. Something like that getting out could get Tag into a lot of trouble. And not the good kind of trouble where he could have an adventure a bad,bad trouble. He winked in an amusing manner and gave the older student a thumbs up.
Extra special Prefect man...
That was a new one and a different view of the role. At least there was one person he knew would certainly show respect to the Gryffindor prefects, him included. Unless...he was doing it all to get on his good side? Gideon would just have to trust him for the moment and hope first impressions were the true impression for Tag. "Then I guess Mr. Gideon I will be."
Gideon then listened as the younger lion responded to Selina's yell. "That would be Selina...our quidditch team captain," he mentioned in explaination. School spirit and quidditch captain could been seen as going hand in hand...right?"

But it was the opening feast and if she wanted to be loud she was going to be bloody loud. GO GO GRYFFINDOR!
Gideon watched as Selina responded to his call, the quidditch player easy to read and tell she was clearly amused at his behavior. He did his best to appear unabashed at the fact he was being caught for acting not himself. "Well ye see...I was only echoing someone else," he remarked, biting the inside of his cheek to keep from chuckling at her own antics. Hands on hips did provide an interesting image.
Hands...what had Anya said about hands?
Holding hands would keep them from being separated and lost. So taking inspiration from their younger teammate...with a bit of quirky thoughts of his own, Gideon reached out and took one of Selina's hands from her hip and pulled her towards him and his lap. The sixth year trying to look innoscent the whole time.
"See Anya...I took your advice and caught a certain quidditch captain

Gryffindor was the red one, right? Yeah, Penelope was pretty sure. So since this was the house she had been sorted into, she quickly found an empty spot on one side and squeezed in, not really paying attention to who she sat down by.
Where was the food? Why wasn't there food on the table? She was HUNGRY.
Frowning, Penelope looked around, wondering if anyone else had food or knew when they'd actually get some.

Taking another sip from his glass, Gideon spotted a young girl across the top of his glass. The same young girl who had made her way into the prefect's compartment on the train on the way to school. She seemed unhappy for some reason, the prefect wondering if there was something wrong.
"Hey there," he greeted simply of course not knowing her name. "I'm Gideon. Welcome to Gryffindor," he said introducing himsel and offering congradulations.
