The glittering night sky is clear and visible through the enchanted ceiling, and the floating candles bedeck the entire hall in a warm golden light. All seems well with the world, aside from the empty plates still waiting for food to appear.
Christopher sat down at his table alone, feeling rather awkward. Not just his usual awkward personality, but rather discomforted. Usually Hogwarts felt like his home, the place he could be himself and feel most happy, but right now, he just felt out of place. After leaving for nearly an entire term with no warning and then suddenly returning wasn't easy to do. He had a large number of apologies and explanations to give, but it seemed that would be for later. Right now, everyone was just having fun with their friends and enjoying their time back. But his friends seemed to all be missing, including his best friend Adam. The boy was gone, and there had been rumors that he wouldn't be returning. So overall, Christopher felt rather disheartened as he joined his fellow lions. Hopefully the year would pick up over time and be a lot more cheery than it had began.
Kurumi smiled a little more, trying to put on a brave face after THAT question had been asked. Merlin, she should have prepared herself a little more for questions regarding summer. Eyes watering every single time it was mentioned...wasn't exactly how she wanted to spend the feast. "I'm alright," she nodded. Truth. "I'm just glad to be back at Hogwarts and seeing everyone again." Truth. "How about you?"
Grayson saw her smile but saw something a little less happy in her eyes. He smiled and nodded and said,"Ok, that's good to know. I'm glad to be back too. Back to be subjected to the constant snares of Gideon, resistance of Selina and blushing from you. It's great to be back." he looked around briefly before asking "Can I talk you, a lil later?"

Tay laughed and smiled. She nodded, "Yeah because we needed to get supplies for them." Taylor looked at him.
Maxwell laughed and shrugged. "I'll just have Dad send them." He thought for a moment. "What...are the electives?" He asked hoping not to sound too dumb.
Tay did a facepalm and shook her head, "And you said that you are on the rhythm." She laughed and smiled, "They are Arthimancy, Divniation, Astronomy, Muggle Studies, and Ancient Runes."

Nope. At least not judging from his question. Looking around, Kurumi tried to find Toddles again so she could hug him but soon brought her attention back to the Headmaster. "Toddles," Kurumi said, placing a little emphasis on the elf's name. Honestly, Tables? Baby thing? Shouldn't the Headmaster, as a father, be a little more caring when it came to names? Toddles might start to cry! "Was here earlier, Headmaster, throwing something around. And...I swear I just saw him again now... with a pillowcase..."
Where did the little guy go?
Oh wait! "There he is!" Kurumi chirped, pointing her finger at the something that had moved under the table. Honestly, if the elf hadn't said anything she probably wouldn't have noticed.
Ducking down a bit, Kurumi peered into the darkness that was under the table and wished that the candlelight in the Great Hall were a little brighter. Where was the cutie?!
Well. "Get him out from there," Tate said coolly. He didn't need to be chastised by a prefect because he didn't know the name of every blasted elf in the castle. This one had only recently received a name, anyway, so it wasn't like he'd been calling it/him/her the wrong name all last term.
Him. Toddles was a him.
Hmph.
Tate crouched beside Hollingberry. "Come out and play, Toddles. Will you show me your new toy?"
Tay did a facepalm and shook her head, "And you said that you are on the rhythm." She laughed and smiled, "They are Arthimancy, Divniation, Astronomy, Muggle Studies, and Ancient Runes."
"I meant about Transfiguration!" He said laughing. "I'll take Muggle studies, which ones did you take? Just in case one of the one's you did sounds interesting?" He said with a smile. He thought Astronomy could be fun.

Tate crouched beside Hollingberry. "Come out and play, Toddles. Will you show me your new toy?"
He was talking to Toddles now? How did he find him in his awesome, really good hiding spot? Did grown up humansies know about hiding under tables? That didn't make sense.
Did Toddles go out and talk to the Head man or not? He was afraid that he would yell at him for going in his office. That would make him sad. The studensies may save him though if things got bad.
Sticking his head ever so slightly out from underneath the table, just so his eyes and ears were visible he squeaked. "Mister won't hurt Toddles or the Shiney?" The baby elf came all the way out and sat on the table close to the red "P' girl who liked him. She might save Toddles if the man tried to hurt him.
The whole time the orb created a huge lump on the front chest part of Toddles' pillowcase-like tunic.

Perfect Prefect? That certainly had Kurumi's cheeks a bright pink color. She opened her mouth to tell him that Kurumi would be just fine, but he was Head Boy. He could technically call her Perfect Prefect if he wanted to.
Ignore that she was far from perfect.
"Well...that is one way to show how spirit," she laughed. Weird and potentially very messy, but....as Tag had taught her earlier... whatever floats your boat!
Nodding, Kurumi flicked her wand again to charm another Gryffindor crest cookie towards Paulie, summersaulting and twirling as it made its way towards his face. "Certainly did."
SQUEEEEEEEEEE!
TODDLES WAS BACK!!!
Could she hug him again? Please? PLEEEEEEEEEEEASE?!

Ducking down a bit, Kurumi peered into the darkness that was under the table and wished that the candlelight in the Great Hall were a little brighter. Where was the cutie?!
Paulie chuckled. "Guess so." He hoped she realized that he had been kidding. Anyway. One of Kurumi's trademark Gryffindor cookies suddenly came spiraling through the air, straight for his mouth. He took a big bite and grabbed the other half with his hand. He chewed and swallowed before giving a nod of approval. "Just as good as I remember." If Kurumi had somehow not been prefect material, which is a totally crazy notion, she still could've bribed her way into being one just with her darn cookies.
HUH! A thought that had popped into Paulie's mind on the train suddenly reappeared. Though it might sound rather out-of-the-blue to Kurumi. "Oh! So, are you and Lewis dating?" Their behavior in the prefect's compartment suggested so, at least!
Tay laughed, "Sure you did. I bet you arent in rhythm with that either." She giggled and teased him, smiling. Taylor was carefree right now and it shows in her laugh, voice, smile and face. "Well i am taking Arithmacy, Divnivation, Ancient Runes and of course Astronomy." She laughed, "I dont think im doing muggle studies." Tay wrinkled her nose.
Charlie laughed, shaking his head. It amazed him how she could be so oblivious. Although, he appreciated how excited she seemed to see him. "Hey, Brooks." He said with a grin, grabbing a plate and piling food onto it. He'd already eaten some at his own table, but he was still hungry. He gets used to only eating a little during the summer, so being allowed to eat all he wants is something he looks forward to about school. "How've you been?" He asked her between bites.
Brooke raised an eyebrow at the laughing boy. He didn't make much sense to her most times. "What're you laughing at?" Fake!glare. She hadn't done anything that was LAUGH worthy! So why was this happening? She picked up another piece of bread, pulling it apart and popping a small section into her mouth.
She stared at him blankly. "Did you just come over here to eat our food?" She was teasing of course, but she tried her hardest to keep a straight face, which was actually more difficult for the girl than it should be.
The blond shrugged. "Fine, thanks." She shrugged. Nothing had really happened between the time they'd last seen each other, especially since they'd spent a good chunk of the summer together.

Gideon wasn't so sure his first choice of word had been the most fitting so he simply shrugged at the question. "Maybe...in some way," he remarked thinking about it. "Knights perhaps to go with the bravery of our house and the sword of Godric." It certainly fit when one thought of it that way and people already considered himself in that way.

"I'm Penelope," she replied, assuming that, since they were sitting across from each other with a table in between them, they didn't have to do the shaking hands thing that people usually did when they said their name. So she simply nodded at the welcome. Then, assuming he might know since he was old and had been in the perfect compartment, she asked, "Do you know when the food's gonna come?" Hopefully soon. Like, now.
"Nice to meet ye, Penelope," Gideon replied with a polite nod as the girl returned his greeting. ABout to offer assistance on any questions she might have had, the younger lion spoke up again herself with an inquiry."The food usually appears after the headmaster says his speech for the evening." Which seeing as the man had come down to the Gryffindor table to see about something Gideon wasn't aware of, might not be any time soon.
His curiousity and interest was piqued but he doubted gawkers were needed if it wasn't a big thing. One prefect was probably enough unless he was needed to which he would go over if summoned. And if it had anything to do with the house-elf he had seen earlier...too many people might rattle it.

Pictures...fun.
As long as it wasn't Anya's way of paying him back for the blackmail picture of her brother it didn't seem too much of a bad idea. Even if he wasn't the most interested in being photographed. At the question of things they had done together, Gideon's eyes glanced at Selina, exchanging looks. The only big thing they had really done together was Violet's party and that had been quite...adventurous.
But not something to share with Anya. At least not ALL the details.
"Oh just a simple surprise get-together for a friend."

Gideon caught movement in the corner of his eye, coming towards the house table. Turning his head for a better look, he was surprised to see a familiar face...Christopher. If wonders never ceased. His roommate missing for the better part of last term with no explaination, not even from Selina who he had been living with beforehand.

Kurumi simply nodded. Easier said than done when it came to this particular house elf who, for whatever reason, didn't exactly take to commands. Was that something that came with age? The sixth year cocked her head to the side for a moment as she pondered the potential evolutionary theory behind house elves when the Headmaster was back to speaking to Toddles.
"I am sure the Headmaster is brilliant at playing catch, Toddles," Kurumi nodded encouragingly. He was the Headmaster after all.

Again, she resisted the urge to just hug the creature because he was just so adorable with his stuffed pillowcase.
"You have nothing to be afraid of," Kurumi smiled, still very much wanting to hug the creature. Tehe.

Constant snares from Gideon? Well...that was rather uncalled for, wasn't it? Kurumi leaned down the table a bit to see Gideon still holding on to Selina, which was fine considering they were a couple, but she hoped her best friend remembered all the times that they had complained about people being a little too...couply in public places where everyone could see. Like the common room. Ahem.
Kurumi was about to respond when Grayson apparently wanted to save their conversation for later. "Oh, um, sure. Anytime you want."

Kurumi blushed slightly, eyeing the remaining cookies in the air. Why were there so many less than previous years? It was almost as if she had forgotten to pack half of them when she had been getting ready to board the train. But...what was impossible, no? Kurumi never forgot things when it came to cookies... which is why THIS was so odd. Oh well, at least Paulie had been around to grab one before they were all gone, right?
Kurumi nearly choked on her own breath as she exhaled sharply. "W-W-W-W-What makes you think that?" she squeaked, panic written all over her face as her eyes darted first to the Hufflepuff table and then to the Slytherin one. "L-L-Lewis and I aren't...I mean we haven't...um..." Was it hot in here? Were the candles getting too close?

Tay laughed, "I figured that it might be boring to someone who grew up as a muggle.... last year was all about food." She wrinkled her nose, "Please tell me muggles arent that focus on food...." She nodded, "Yeah Ancient Runes and Astronomy are fun." Taylor smiled and then shrugged, "Divination is awesome too and you can learn to predict the future so you know when something good or bad is coming so it isnt that bad to know...."

Throw cookies? Cauldron cakes? THERE WAS A CAULDRON MADE OUT OF CAKE? THAT Penelope was definitely going to try soon.
"As long as they don't get thrown on the floor they'll still be edible." 'Course, Penelope was perfectly willing to eat them even if they did fall on the floor. She was THAT hungry. And she'd had worse. This floor couldn't be that bad.
She just wanted FOOD, man.

He asked while he leaned forward into the table to try and find a place of where people might be going in and out, ready to plate the hungry students.
...Kid was awfully loud, wasn't he? How could he be so loud and energetic if he was really that hungry? Hmm.
She shrugged. "Dunno. Guess there could be. There ARE lots of people here to cook for." But if the castle was like this every year, surely the elves - which she assumed were the ones doing the cooking like they did at her grandparents' house - should be used to it by now.

"Oh, um, thank you," she said with a small bow of the head. "It...can translate to Walnut in English...unless you are translating the individual kanji that are used to write my name." Blah blah blah...this girl probably wasn't interested in a mild linguistics lesson.
Especially when one considered how she was eyeballing the dancing cookies.
"Help yourself. Although, I think the Headmaster will be giving his speech soon." She hoped at least. She wanted her pumpkin juice!
It translated...to Walnut? That was about all she understood of Kurumi's reply. Penelope had no idea what a "kanji" was - some kind of food? candy? - but that her name meant Walnut she DID understand. "That's even cooler!" She now wondered what her name translated to. Did it mean any kind of food too? That would be COOL.
And it seemed Kurumi had noticed her eyeing that delicious-looking dancing cookie. And she COULD eat it? YES. Penelope didn't have to be told twice. One moment the cookie was dancing, the next it was in her mouth. Muuuch better.
Speech? Penelope...vaguely remembered someone mentioning something about that. And then food appearing after? Yes please.

Oh look, it was back. And under the table. And Kurumi was trying to help get the elf out from there. Penelope might've helped get the elf out - or at least done something other than watch curiously - but the elf was already starting to come out from under the table. So Penelope simply continued watching.

He paused and eyed the blonde.
"I'm a growing boy," He said flatly, although a small smirk rest on his lips. "I need to eat." and he then proceeded to pile more food into his plate.

Maxwell nodded. "I think so too, We could be study partners." He said knowing he probably wouldn't study on his own. He looked concerned at her. "Is that why you've been freaking out all day? Taylor, those things aren't always right. And the future is always changing." He said trying to comfort her. "What did it say, if you don't mind me asking?"

"You won't be hurt," Tate agreed, wiggling his fingers invitingly at the little elf. Just throw the orb in this direction. Or to the prefect. Yes! Throw it to her!

"I am sure the Headmaster is brilliant at playing catch, Toddles," Kurumi nodded encouragingly. He was the Headmaster after all.
Kurumi giggled and resisted the urge to just scoop Toddles up in her arms and give him another hug when he inched closer to her and... EEK! SAT DOWN NEAR HER!
Again, she resisted the urge to just hug the creature because he was just so adorable with his stuffed pillowcase.
"You have nothing to be afraid of," Kurumi smiled, still very much wanting to hug the creature. Tehe.
"Ask him to throw it to you," Tate suggested to Hollingberry. "And I am brilliant at playing catch. Good guess."
"We could be." She nodded and laughed. Tay grimaced and nodded again, "Yeah that is why i was freaking out...." Taylor sighed, "Maxwell, they are usually right though and it showed clouds...." She trailed off and looked away.

Maxwell sighed a little. "Forgive me for my continued ignorance, but what do clouds mean?" He asked hoping it wasn't anything too terrible.

Seeing as the first year was not with a cookie, enough to keep her distracted until food actually showed up...hopefully...Kurumi sort of just passed over her whole name thing for now because, well, TODDLES WAS HERE!
Nodding a bit more as the Headmaster confirmed that he was not going to get hurt, Kurumi turned her gaze to the man. "Play a bit of baseball in your day, sir?" she asked, momentarily forgetting that he had just asked her to do something.
Ahem. Right.
"Toddles, you hear that? The Headmaster is good at playing catch too! How about...you throw it to me first and then all three of us can play together?" That sounded like fun, right? Even if Kurumi suspected that the Headmaster had no intention of playing catch.
