Upon entering the arena, it may have been a familiar sight for those who attended the first defense against the dark arts lesson last term, though slight changes were taken. The arena was exceedingly dark, windows having been closed off with dark burgundy, almost black looking, drapes that hung from ceiling to floor. Deep purple colored mats were lined perfectly from one another in the middle of floor in rows of eight while a deep red mat sat in the front of them all where Professor Medea currently was lazily sitting upon. However, one could still find their way around the room, for scattered around the edges of the arena, far away from where they all would be sitting, were a great deal of candles, both lighting portions of the walls, floors, and ceiling itself in a rather ghostly glow fashion. Candles that floated in water surrounded with the stationary ones to light up the particularly extra shiny floor were flickering, while the ceiling was lit with an orange glow from the hovering candles, most commonly seen in the Great Hall. Don't worry though. No candle wax will be dripping to the floor.
In front of each mat is a parchment already shaped into a long triangle to be easily placed in front of you to read, exactly as how they were last term. What they are for, returning students may know, but for those who don't, fret not. The Professor will say what to do eventually. So please come in and become comfortable on one of the mats. Class will be starting shortly!
OOC: Class has officially begun! Please, don't post your character arriving late, or beware the consequences. ______Just jump in with the lesson as if they've been here the whole time.

The boy stuck his name tag on his desk then looked back up to the professor. What was the Dark Arts? Kind of self-explanatory, weren't they? Theo raised his hand, "Umm, magic that is frowned upon." Very frowned upon, yes.
"Isn't it spells and curses that can hurt other people?"
He was sure of it.

Okay, okay. Picking up her quill, she quickly wrote down her name.

Placing infront of her on her desl, the fourth year turned her attention to the professor. Dark Arts.. Dark Arts. 'Most of it can earn you a place in Azkaban?' It was more of a question that a statement she realised, but she really didn't know that much.
Household spells were more her thing. Innocent stuff like folding clothes and scrubbing dishes.. Whatever.

Taking off the watch, she placed it by her side off the mat before rolling up her sleeves. Once that was finished, she took out her wand and gave it a flick towards the candles nearest to her, which in reality...weren't that near to her at all. They were situated near the walls after all. However, the light in the room brightened even more, making it a bit easier to see everything and everyone.
"There we go." she muttered to herself, keeping her wand by her side as she sat up straight, crossing her legs. "Alright, everyone. I think it's time ve should get started. For those who don't know me, my name is Medea Romanos, and this is my second term of teaching here. Velcome to those who are new, and velcome back to those returning. New students, if you can please go ahead and write your name down on the parchment in front of you, that vould be a great help to me."

Doing as the pretty Professor had instructed, Dylan pulled out his quill, quickly jotting his name, house, and year down. Anything to help her out...

Having finished with that, the Slytherin looked back up, acknowledging that she was asking them a question.
What was the Dark Arts? Well, he could've been sarcastic in that moment, but decided against it since she was one of his favorites...
Yep...He did have favorites.
"I know that all forms of the Dark Arts are considered illegal." Had anyone mentioned that, Dylan wasn't sure...and hadn't really been paying attention if he were being honest. "I also read somewhere that when used extensively, the magic itself can have an effect on your physical appearance."...which was a deal breaker for him. He was too pretty to mess himself due to some evil magic.
She just sat back and let everyone else around her answer the question because it was almost like review from last term. She would however, participate fully and happily.

"Dark Arts are the part of magic, that muggles got their preconceived ideas of magic from. Dark arts is the worst form of magic, and can land the speller in jail. Dark Arts is the underworld of Magic, and its curses harm people. Lord Voldemart was the most awful lord of dark arts, yet thankfully he died in 1997 so we don't need to worry about him. Many curses are illegal, especailly the 3 unforgivable curses, crutio, tortures the victim, avadra cadrava , which is emits green light and is fatal and there is one more, which I have just gone blank on. Doing these can land a person in Askaban. In the school year 1996-1997, Hogwarts was controlled by Lovers of the Dark Arts, during that yearm Defense against the Dark Arts was changed to just the study of the dark arts and hpw to preform them." Lewis had spent the time until the actual start of the lesson wisely - or in his eyes anyway - by setting up his work space...or well, the space around his Yoga mat. Parchment, quill and his wand were in front of him, each perfectly aligned with the other. Now the lesson could start. And maybe, just maybe the Yoga mats were only here because Professor Romanos liked how they looked and not because they were going to do some more Yoga exercises.
Maybe? Hopefully?
When the professor used her wand to make the light the candles emitted a little bit brighter, hence illuminating the room more, Lewis glanced around for a moment to see who was there and where people he knew were sitti-
Oh no. Next to him was the Slytherin Prefect. The scary one. Sierra. He swallowed once, immediately averting his gaze to the front again while chewing on his lip nervously. Maybe she hadn't noticed him. She definitely hadn't SAID anything so. Maybe he could just get up and choose a different mat elsewhere. But no such luck apparently since it was right then that the professor started the lesson. Okay, now the the only thing he could do was hope she hadn't noticed him.
Oh, first question. Quickly raising his hand - completely forgetting the fact that that only drew attention to him - Lewis replied a little thoughtfully, "It was taught at Hogwarts at some point. F-for one term. Or most of it." Well, SOME of it really. It was very likely canceled a little earlier than expected due to the final battle at Hogwarts. But before that he'd read all about how some of the Death Eaters who had taken over the castle had taught it to the students. Teaching them Unforgivables and other illegal spells.
The Defence Against the Dark Arts room was fairly dark, but nonetheless Nessie the atmosphere which may have been because of all the purple. Purple was her favorite color and it made her feel all calm and happy inside. The red head, had been sitting quite peacefully on one of the mats and she even had begun smiling. This was so calming and relaxing.
Her calm mood was taken away though when the Professor lightened up the room. The fourth year blinked and only now noticed how full the classroom really was. This class would hopefully be fun, if it wasn't going to be calming.
For a change, Nessie was focused and had actually heard what Professor Romanos had said. Hmm..the Dark Arts... they were dark that was for sure, right? But that sounded like a silly thing to say. "Um..well Professor, Dark Arts is usually magic performed that is illegal and within Dark Arts there are many Dark Wizards." she began " I think most of those wizardsare in Azkaban though." She hoped they were.
Gahh she sounded so silly. Maybe it was better if she kept quiter more often.
"There we go." she muttered to herself, keeping her wand by her side as she sat up straight, crossing her legs. "Alright, everyone. I think it's time ve should get started. Since he's not anew student so he didn't need to write his name on that parchment, right?
A little different? Messer wondered what the Professor mean with that. Maybe no more exercising? Oh its like the Professor could read his mind. After he thinks about that, she told them that they will be doing some exercising.
Dark Arts? "Its forbidden, Professor." he said after raising his hand. "If I'm not wrong by using it you'll have one way ticket to Azkaban?"Yes? No?

Violet had learned about this last term, but now she had forgotten most of it. She raised her hand slowly anyway to try and answer the professor's question. "Er..the Dark Arts is anything that can inflict pain on either any person or creature or for any evil means the witch or wizard wants to do. It can be for their own need or for their superior member I guess."
Violet thought that this was a really basic answer, but it was all that she could think of at the moment.

Arms folded, the dark haired girl kept eyeing the professor still wearing the same unimpressed expression even though it had been more than a few minutes and the rest of the class was talking about...things. Things that totally did not interest Lea. She did not care what others did during their summer days. Why would she anyway? It was of no use to her.
So, scoffing, she looked up at the ceiling, at the candles up there. Ha! Would not it be so much fun if hot candle wax suddenly started to rain on everyone? There could even be chaos in the class!!! Hahaha...no doubt that could be more exciting than the summer stories of a few kids. Her summer had been way better than theirs anyway but she was not going to talk about it. She was not interested until Professor Romanos mentioned Dark Arts.
That was when the girl finally looked back at her, looking interested. What did she know about the Dark Arts? She had read a lot but those were not really important. ''All i know is that it is a set of pointless magic created by dumb people.'' That was simply what her dear brother had told her, was not it? ''Seriously. There's no point in something that has no other use but harm. I think it needs to be destroyed.''
*nod nod*
That was why she was most enthusiastic about this class.

For some reason, out of all the professors in the school, Kurumi felt that she was the one that might be able to help. It was worth a try, wasn't it?
However, before she could ask Daichi, class began and Kurumi stretched her legs out nice and straight to stretch just a bit. Where were the yoga positions? It was actually rather unsettling that they didn't just jump right into positions. Slowly, Kurumi raised her hand. "The Dark Arts vary from all other forms of magic because of the intent of the witch or wizard practicing them. As others have mentioned, we define this branch of magic as being rooted in pure evil. However, just because someone performs a curse or an Unforgivable Spell, as an example, does not mean that they are practicing the Dark Arts. Their intent must be there as well." Which sort of made the topic of Dark Arts rather confusing as one COULD argue that the spells themselves were not Dark, but the people were. Plenty of historical references there, but Kurumi didn't go into those. "The Dark Arts also tamper with the natural order of things, untimely death by means of the Killing Curse and those Dark Witches and Wizards who seek immortality being prime examples."
Of course, Dark Creatures and Artefacts should be touched on as well, but since everyone seemed to be a little more focused on spells for now, Kurumi had chosen to remain there too. After all, there was A LOT you could say about the Dark Arts.

Jade Skidmoore listened to the other students share their answers and listened to the Professor's next instructions. Wait, so they were doing yoga. The seventh year tried to get into the lotus position but she fell over a couple of times before accomplishing the instructed pose. She could only think about how incredibly uncomfortable this position was. Alright, so, next question. Jade tried to hold the position as she answered, "Grindylows are dark creatures and I think they're considered dark since they capture you while you're underwater." Although, she wasn't totally sure about that last part.

Reason: done :3
Taylor sat up in the lotus position and raised her hand, "Professor, a basilisk is a dark creature.... is the reason because of the poison they have?" Tay wasnt sure about the reason but it made sense.... kinda of...

Minerva put a big smile on her face and followed the professors instructions. She loved doing the yoga positions. She wrapped her legs exactly the way the professor did and then put one hand down on her leg touching her thumb to her finger. The other hand she raised to answer the question "Professor the boggarts are dark creatures, because they like the dark and are shape shifters, which means they shape into your worse fears." after she was done telling her answer she laid her other hand on her other leg touching that finger and thumb together.
Nate moved to the lotus position as he was instructed to. He then had to think for a while about this one. Then he knew what he was going to say. So he raised his hand and said "Professor, dementors are consider dark creatures because they are a soul sucking fiend. So if you encounter one for to long you'll lose your mind." Nate thought that was a pretty good example of a dark creature, and why it would be considered that.
Sophie was already sitting up straight, she just needed to change the positions of her legs to be sitting like professor Romanos. She did so before raising her hand. "Dementors are dark creatures, aren't they, professor?" Sophie said looking at the older witch in the eyes. "They can make you feel really bad about... well, about everything, I guess. I've heard they suck out happiness from people!" That sounded horrible!!! Sophie shivered at her own words.
Nigel was happy that he understood what the professor was saying about the Dark Arts and started to follow her instructions. He guessed he had to get in a lotus position or whatever it was. Nigel had never done yoga before and did not really want to start now in Defense Against the Dark Arts. So after much trouble he finally got his body in the Lotus Position.
Now Nigel had to answer the professors question. He had read a book about dark creatures and thought about which one to talk about. He finally decided on one"Um Professor, The Lethifold are dark and extremely dangerous creatures. Its attacks its prey at night, when they are asleep, and suffocates and digests it victim ,which are humans, in its bed."
dream until your • dreams come true ~ Human pygmy puff
Alex took a deep breath and eased into the lotus position. She raised her hand to answer the question. "Inferi are dark creatures", Alex said. "They are dark because.....because....well they are undead. That can't be good."
Pyrsephonie straightened up and thougth of a Dark Creature. "I believe a Red Cap is a Dark Creature," she finally decided. "It's a Dark Creature because it doesn't harm for survival, but just to harm." She went into more detail. "That's why a Troll wouldn't be considered a Dark Creature, because it only harms because it needs to eat or to protect itself or it's home. If it didn't need to do these things, it would probably be a rather docile creature." Pyrsephonie liked Trolls. There was one that lived by her house that she often brought leftovers.
"Now," she moved around so she was sitting a little differently. "If you all can sit up straight in the lotus position, look at how I'm sitting if you don't know vot that is, and tell me an example of a dark creature you know. Also, why are they considered dark?"
Lotus Position
Louisa started changing her position, not believing in all those Yoga stuff becasue she was not relaxed or rest in any way. In fact, she was starting to feel sore like she did first lesson last term. When the position was right, she refused to put her hands on her knees like the professor because she needed them to raise her hand first and then answer the question, "Werewolves are dark creatures, professor." As for the why... Louisa was tempted to say DUHH. But she tried to rationalize, "Because it's in their nature to harm people, animals, things...? They can't control that bad side of themselves?" No idea.
Silvia shifted into the lotus position. It wasn't the most comfortable way to sit, but after last year's Defense lessons, she was getting used to it. She took a moment to think of something that hadn't been mentioned yet and then raised her hand. "There are acromantulas. Giant spiders that can be violent and are poisonous."

Lotus Position
She got into the lotus postion, but couldn't think of a dark creature, well if you counted one of the professors than yes that would be a dark crature in deed.
Autumn got into the lotus position on the purple mat.
hmm a dark creature, she did spend most of her summer reading, AH! A brain wave hit autumn, she raised her hand and waited to be called upon!
"Professor, isn't A lethifold a dark creature, well It's a very dangerous creature! I'm sure you know, it can turn invisible and suffucates there victim mainly while there sleeping, I believe the only spell to save yourself is a patronus"
Autumn looked at the professor with a hint of doubt in her mind on her answer.
Oichi was staring to get a bit confused as the teacher got into a meditation position and told the class to follow suit. She then heard the professor ask the next question and decided to voice her concern and answer the question and raised her hand, "Well professor, I believe a dementor an be considered a dark creature for sure. All they do is take a all the happiness from a place and replace it with their memory. They can also suck out a persons soul leaving them an empty shell for the rest of their days. Thats just scary...... On a different note, "Why are we doing meditation poses for Defense Against The Dark Arts?".
