Typical Johnathan, only hearing key words instead of everything that was being said. "I...don't know," he said, turning the letter in his hands. He should just open it now. Get it over with and go have some breakfast. He nodded to himself, very well knowing that John didn't see that nod. "But I'm going to open it now."
With that said, he glanced around the room and made sure no one was presence. The last thing he wanted was to start rumors. He took out the paper inside the envelope - his mother refused to use rolled up parchment - and began reading...
SPOILER!!: Lucia's Letter
Kennedy,
I lied.
I've kept many things from you and now that you've turned seventeen I feel you are ready to know the truth about our family. About the Escalantes.
Kennedy paused. Allowing what he read so far to settle in. She lied, about what? It was when he read his name that made his stomach tighten and cold sweat run down his back.
SPOILER!!: ...letter continued...
...I want you to understand that everything I did was for your own good.
Our family line traces all the way to Europe. Our ancestors weren't as wealthy as your father's, but they were in great social standings. But, like your father's family, they were wizards and witches as well. Kennedy, you have always been tied to magic, it's been in your blood ever since you were born.
I didn't tell you any of this because I was taught to be ashamed of our family. They sided with the dark side during the second Wizarding War, but what marred our blood was the birth of a squib. It is said that our family was cursed because of all the damage they caused all those years back.
I'm sorry for lying to you all this time. All I wanted was to protect you...
Kennedy stopped reading there. His hands were shaking, making the words on the paper dance. His temples were also throbbing, his head feeling as if it was being pressed between a vise. His mother lied. She lied about everything for seventeen years.
Fury was quickly added to the feeling of disappointment. He crumpled the letter in his hand not bothering to read the rest.
"She lied," he muttered.
After John was finally finished doing his business he approached Kenny. He washed his hands and raised his eyebrows as he was grasping all the information, that was handed to him. But then he heard Kenny's remark about his mother, though John pretended not hear.
"What was that you just said there, buddy?" John needed to certify, that what he had heard was correct. Lucia had lied to Kennedy?
There was so much emotions going on in the eyes of the Slytherin Prince, that John could practically notice from a mile away. Hopefully this won't make things worse, surely there was a good explanation on why Lucia kept this secret from her son. All a mother wants is to keep her children safe...but from what or better yet who?

Kennedy looked up at John with a scowl on his forehead. This was not the time to be calling him buddy. "I said she lied, John," he said, trying to keep his voice even. "Mom has lied to me all this time." He waved the bloody letter in his fist as if that would emphasize what he was saying.
He turned around and grasped the sides of the stone sink and stared at himself in the mirror. It was now that he cursed his green eyes because they were the same as his mother's. The person he's trusted with blind trust. The person he's admired for being honest during their times of hardship. The person he did everything for and his reason for working hard.
Kennedy felt a rising pressure in his chest, a familiar feeling that he held against his father for sixteen years. Dislike. Hate. But what got to him the most was disappointment. Disappointment toward the woman who preached honesty all his life.
He turned his head in John's direction, his knuckles turning white from how hard he was holding onto the sink. "She...our family..." He didn't even know where to begin. "Magic always ran through my veins. Mom's family isn't all muggle, John. She made me believe that I was some sort of freak for it and blamed it all on Father..." He shook his head as if that would scare the blinding headache away.

John scanned Kennedy quite closely. He could've sworn he was very venomous at the moment, John was done ignoring the fact that his friend was in a very fowl mood. Not wanting to make things worse, he wanted to walk away...but come on let's be honest. John's never walked away from Kennedy whenever he had issues and he wasn't going to start now.
"Wait, what?! You're mom's side of the family isn't all muggle..." John furrowed his eyebrows as he was putting all of this information, in his brain. He sighed. "I'm sure Lucia, didn't tell you. To keep you safe not to make you feel like a freak, dude." John wasn't taking any sides but it wasn't correct of Kennedy to talk like that about his mother. The one person that has stuck by his side through thick and thin.
Father? Since when did Kennedy go from calling him Wayne to father?
"I'm sure she has a great explanation for all this, Kennedy. I thought you'd be happy to know you're family wasn't all muggle. After all you're always flaunting to me, that you're a great wizard...well now you are. So what's the big deal?" John tried reasoning with Kennedy, though he had a feeling it wasn't helping very much.

Kennedy raised an eyebrow at John. "Keep me safe?" he repeated. "Great job she did at that," he scoffed, sarcastically. How was years of being bullied keeping him safe? He had to run from school all the way home every day because one wrong move and he was done for.
Now that he thought about it, he's always felt different than the rest of this kids his age back home, but he blamed that on him being of magical descent. There were times when he wished someone would come for him and take him somewhere he belonged, but his mother denied him that. She denied him the right to grow up in a world he rightfully belonged in. She even got him to hate what he was...who he was.
"The big deal?" Was Johnathan really asking him that? Now?! Kennedy ran a hand through his hair, avoiding to see himself in the mirror. "She lied, dang it! She always went on about how Father lied to her all these years when she was doing the same to me." A lie was a lie no matter what. "I suffered for no reason," he muttered. And it was all her fault.
"Mom's no different than Father. She's a damn liar," he said through gritted teeth.

John clutched his fist when he heard all of those word, Kennedy was saying about Lucia. That woman, deserves to better than this. Heck! she became both father and mother to this boy to suddenly be talked about this way.
"Dude! watch it, don't talk about your mother that way!" John's voice deepened.
"Lucia's nothing compared, to Wayne!" John exclaimed as he pointed that out.
He also didn't like the way Wayne was being referred as father...
"And since when did Wayne become 'father' all of sudden?!?" he said as he made some air quotes with his fingers. "That jerk! doesn't deserve it! Or have you forgotten how messed up with your brain...or how he abandoned you for years, or...do ya' want me to keep going. Because trust me Kennedy, I've got a list!" John's voice was full of anger towards that man.
"Put your feet firmly on this earth for once! and acknowledge that Wayne doesn't deserve the 'father of the year' award! rather your mother who's been both father and mother to you!" he added, as his eyebrows were furrowed while pointing out the facts.

Kennedy laughed a dark, humorless laugh. "Oh, you're right, she's nothing compared to Wayne. She's worse." He was now expressing everything he's felt this past year. It wasn't just the letter and lies that riled him up, though, that's what caused the majority of his anger right now. It all went back to last year when his mother simply handed him over to his father, whom he's never met before then. Also, it was the fact that she could do things like this and feel no remorse.
His head shot up as he stood straight and narrowed his eyes at his friend. Kennedy's tolerance levels were now through the roof and John was just making it worse by insulting his father. "Stop it," he said, keeping his voice at a leveled tone, but John just kept going and going. "STOP IT!" he shouted, balling his hand into fists at his sides. "I know what he did, you don't have to remind me, okay!" Though, there was a difference between his father and Lucia. "Father never lied to me, he's said the truth no matter how awful it is, so don't judge him!" He had to admit that was something he looked up to in his father.
"I'm not saying he's the best father. He's just better at raising his children!" Kennedy didn't mean that at all, but it was already too late to take it back. Turns out none of his parents deserved the 'Parent of the Year Award'.

John clutched his fists and walked up to Kennedy, with the angriest look in his eyes. Lucia wasn't worse than Wayne! His mind has been poisoned by an evil master mind. "You better bite your tongue!" John said in the deepest voice anyone has ever heard.
"NO I won' stop! Why do you want me too? Because I'm saying the truth?!?" John pointed out as he wasn't going to let Kennedy believe a lie.
John felt angry pulse run through his body like a shock wave. "You're are so gosh dang stupid! You're believing a monster NOT a father. Wayne doesn't care for you, as his son. He cares for what runs through your veins!" John was beyond angry by now. "A REAL father doesn't pull the stunts, you so called 'daddy' does. It's pathetic and so are you, right now!" John bluntly stated as he wasn't afraid of confronting the truth with Kennedy. "And I'm not judging him, I'm just pointing out the truth of Wayne!" he added.
Whatever it was that, was running through Kennedy's mind, John was willing to knock some since into him. That's what a true older brother would do.

Kennedy knew there was some truth in John's words, though he refused to accept it because he didn't know his father the way Kennedy has grown to know him. Sure, he wasn't the best father out there - far from it, actually - but he wasn't a bloody liar. Kennedy detested lies.
His eyes narrowed even more at John as he walked closer to him. He should just stay out of this. "You don't know him," he said, shaking his head and inhaling as much air as possible to cool himself down.
It's pathetic and so are you...
Kennedy saw red at John's words. Pathetic. He was not pathetic. In a sudden movement of pure anger and frustration Kennedy harshly shoved Johnathan away from him, and with a quick flick of his wrist had his wand pointing at him. "Shut. Up," he said through gritted teeth, his once green eyes were now dark with something he couldn't quite identify.

John pierced his eyes as he seriously looked at Kennedy. "I know him well enough, to not welcome him." he darkly replied.
John felt his body being shoved backwards. Wait? Did Kennedy just shove him and pull out his wand. Oh no, he didn't! John never expected this, not from Kennedy at least. How could he do this, either way Johnathan wasn't going to let anyone improperly lay a hand on him.
"You did not just touch me?!?" John falsely chuckled as he pointed at Kennedy and shook his head.
His head twitched when he noticed Kennedy's wand. "HAHAHA! What daddy, didn't teach you how to fight like a real man?" John falsely laughed but soon that all faded away "Two can play it that way!" he added as he's never pulled out his wand before, until now....

Kennedy's wand arm shook as he pointed it at John. He normally wouldn't be shaking, but this was his best friend and he...Gaaah! He didn't know how to keep his mouth shut and look at where it got him.
The minute Kennedy saw Johnathan pull his wand out his reflexes sparked on their. "Expelliarmus!" he called, catching John's wand mid-air. "Oh, he did, he taught me more than you can imagine, so just drop it, alright," he warned. He didn't want to have to fight Johnathan over this. Plus, this feud wasn't with him.

John didn't think or expect for Kennedy to pull this stunt either! What was wrong this boy, has he really gone mad? John sucked the insides of his cheeks...
"Yes I see that perfectly, he taught how to hide behind a piece of wood. Instead of fighting like a man, because trust me that's not what you're doing!" John bluntly stated as he wasn't afraid to get his body blown to pieces, if it meant snapping his best friend into reality.
"Go right ahead...Kennedy Wayne!" John said as he falsely bowed. "Hide behind your wand...apparently that's all you know how to do" John shrugged his shoulders, practically taunting him into the truth.

Kennedy's nostrils flared with fury. Why wouldn't he just shut up?! John was practically begging to get hexed. Though, Kennedy wasn't going to fall for whatever his friend was up to. If he was trying to get him to see reason, well, he already did. And his father was the way to go.
"If I was hiding then I wouldn't be here," he sneered. "But then again, I am a wizard. Not like you, you're a sorry excuse of one." Because John hardly ever used magic unless if it was for school. Seriously, what wizard did that?
He shook his head and tossed John's wand at his feet. He wasn't going to keep arguing with him about this. His parents were his business only. Kennedy was about to turn around when John hit the last straw and his mind blanked. In a sudden motion he tossed his wand by the sinks and tackled the Gryffindor to the ground.

Johnathan raised a brow, was that suppose to hurt or offend him. John laughed "Nice one, as if I would care that I am! At least I have respect for the woman, that gave me life!" John's reason behind his anger was the way Kennedy spoke of his mother. Right or wrong, Lucia was his mother for the rest of his life. Instead of talking bad about her, he should appreciate everything she has done for him.
As soon as Kennedy tackled John to the ground, his instincts kicked in. He quickly maneuvered himself on top of Kennedy and with one swift motion, he swung his fist across Kennedy's face. He never in his wildest dreams, imagined punching his best friend. However he wasn't going to let Kenny attack him either.

Kennedy ignored the rest of what John had to say instead tried to focus on taking the Gryffindor down. All these past few week's frustration had finally blown up. It only made it worse that he had been taking Aurora's potion to counteract the memory potion, which only added more fuel to the fire.
The Prefect was suddenly being flipped over, his back hitting the stone floor as another forced got him in the face. It only took him a second to realized that it had been John's fist that had smashed against his face. Ignoring the coppery taste in his mouth and his labored breathing, Kennedy's body reacted defensively as it tried to push the Gryffindor off him, headbutting the guy in the face.

John's head was suddenly pushed back with force. He had been headbutted, by Kennedy. He placed his hands on his face as he felt a strong force of pressure, crack his nose. He tossed his body to ground as he covered his blood pouring, nose.
"I think you broke my nose, dude!" John said in nasal voice.
He quickly stood up and grabbed tissue, he glared at Kennedy and made his way to his common room. This was a very "interesting" day for John.
"I fought guys, trying to defend you before. Never did I think I'd fight you, trying to defend myself." John told Kennedy before he left. He had referred to the time he defended Kenny from the bullies, that haunted him.

Adrenaline rushed through Kennedy's veins after his head connected with Johnathan's face. If it had been anyone else he wouldn't have stopped, he knew that, but this was his best friend...well, he wasn't sure if they were that anymore.
He let his arms fall to his side as his chest heaved, trying to catch his breath. Never did I think I'd fight you...Kennedy slowly turned his head in John's direction - ignoring the cold ground - and parted his mouth to say something, but nothing came out.
Everything thing he said was true and only managed to get Kennedy to feel like a solid git. When he heard Johnathan's footsteps grow faint until there was just the sound of his breathing, Kennedy brought his fingertips up to his face and winced. Great, John busted his lip. With a small groan, Kennedy got up and rinsed his mouth out on the sink, wrinkling his nose at the red.
When he managed to get the bleeding to somewhat stop, he gathered his things and picked up his wand - he was never, ever letting go of it again - and walked out of the boy's bathroom.
