It was such a nice day outside, the weather was mild, not quite warm but not cold either. Just the way Seren liked it. Unfortunately the lesson wasn’t being held outdoors, no, it was being held in Greenhouse One, where the air was cooler, and the smell of damp soil filled the air.
As you enter the greenhouse the first thing you notice are the stools arranged to the side of the greenhouse by the door, and directly opposite these are stools of a different variety. That’s right, toadstools! While they may look harmless from a distance it’s not wise to get too close to them just yet, after all you wouldn’t want to be sent to the Hospital Wing before the lesson has even started.
Waiting patiently for the students to arrive, Professor Bentley stood by the door to welcome them as they entered; Though she was careful to position herself near the seating area so that she can keep an eye on any mischief making. Standing slightly to the side of the toadstools, was Professor Bentley’s old blackboard, neat and tidy cursive writing slowly appearing on its surface- as if by magic!

Amethyst nodded softly as she mouthed the incantation to herself before saying it aloud lightly. "Vero...no...Viro! Yeah...Viro Torayo?...no, no, no. Viro Torpeo!" She smiled nodding to herself.

ohh, Biting Toadstools? that was creepy. And they were to harvest its fangs? that didn't sound very nice, even if they were numbing it. Raising her hand she asked. "Ma'am, Do their fangs grow back? You know, kind of like a lizard's tail. Because if they do not, how can it get along with out them, aren't they important to the plant?" After asking her question, the Puff went a head and praticed the incantation. "V-vee-row Tor-pay-oh, Vee-row Tor-pay-oh, Viro Torpeo"

Mushrooms with teeth? Now she's seen, or heard, everything. She's never seen a biting mushroom before. Good thing she brought her gloves or her hands would be sporting scores of little cuts. She wasn't the most careful person when it came to handling plants, especially if they had fangs. After Professor Bentley gave them their instructions, Lysandra started practicing the incantation.
Viro Torpeo. Viro Torpeo. she continued to say the incantation in a chant like way several times.
Ooohhhhhhhh well that made sense. Perfect sense -----Harvesting fangs?! How wicked was that?!
Charner bet all the coins in her coin jar her brother didn't get to do cool stuff like this. With a wide grin, she bent over at the waist and started pawing through her bag to find her gloves. She much preferred working without them, but getting scars from wrestling a toadstool wasn't exactly the best story to tell. No, that would be left for the dragons.
And while she was doing that, she completely missed the writing of the incantation on the board. A good thing then that the Professor said it out-loud or else she wouldn't have even been able to guess how it was pronounced. As it was, when she was shuffling through her bag, she started muttering the incantation. "Vee- row Tor- pay - oh......Vee- row Tor- pay - oh......Viro Torpeo.....Viro Torpeo..." It sounded like a siren on a torpedo.

Seren listened intently as the students made their suggestions, guessing at what the curious 'stools were. "Talking toadstools, no... Fly Agaric, no ........... Amantia Muscaria, no.......Poisonous, no.... Leaping, no."
And finally....
"Biting toadstools! Correct!"
Seren turned to give the 'stools an appreciative look. They really were magnificent.
"Now don't be alarmed, these toadstools - while they do feed on flesh, they don't have near enough of an appetite to take a chunk out of you. The worst injury you get is a little uncture or a scratch.... But that's why you have you dragon hide gloves with you." She eyed them all. They did remember to bring them, did they not?
"Now as your aware, toadstools are often used in potions, though we generally use caps, stems and spores, Biting toadstools offer us a different ingredient."
"Fangs!"
She waited for the reality of what was about to happen to sink in. "Today, we will be harvesting biting toadstool fangs. But only the fangs."
After a brief pause, taking the time to make eye contact with each student, she continued, "The biting toadstool is blessed with the presense of many teeth, which you will see around the underneath rim of its cap. There are, two fangs which protrude a little further than the rest of the teeth. These are the ones we will be harvesting."
"But before we do that, you need to familiarise yourselves with a numbing charm. This will ensure the toadstools aren't in any pain when we.... so nicely yank them out."
Sort of like dentistry.
"You are to repeat the incantation after me." She paused, then flicked her wand at the board.
"Viro Torpeo", she said in a loud clear voice. "Incantation only."
"Viro Torpeo."
OOC: Practice the incantation only. We will practice the wand movement shortly before continuing with the activity.
Selina cringed when her Professor spoke about ripping the teeth out of the poor toadstools. She did feel quite awful about what they were going to do, but she swore if one of them bit her Selina would not feel bad anymore. In fact, if they attempted to eat her she would not hesitate to skip the numbing part of the project and just rip the teeth from their lids. It was Selina's project, not supper time.
Then she re-focused on the lesson and repeated the incantation over and over again, "Wiro Torpeo. Viro Torpeoh, Verio Torpeo, Viro Torpeo. Got it! Viro Torpeo. Vira Torpeo. Virumque cano Troaie quid primus ad orbis..." She shook her head and muttered to herself, "No latin Selina... just the incantation."
"It's not who you are that holds you back, it's who you think you are not."

Adam couldn't help but staring at the toadstools in front of him for a moment...they had fangs? The toadstools had fangs on them and they were going to try and take them....well...this was certainly going to be a new experience for him. Adam made a note in his notebook about the name of the plants, their fangs, and the little note that they wouldn't be hungry enough to take a chunk out of them. That was definitely reassuring.
And they would be a learning a numbing charm which made Adam feel even more reassured.
Clearing his throat slightly Adam gave the pronunciation of the incantation a go. "Viro Torpeo," Adam said, the words coming out much smoother and more naturally than he had been expecting. Well maybe this wouldn't be so bad...

At first, Sierra frowned when she realized she hadn't gotten the answer right. She'd been close, though, right? The two she'd named did have a similar appearance. Her eyebrows raised, though, when she heard they'd be harvesting an ingredient used in potions. Fangs. That sounded interesting enough, and Potions was one of Sierra's favorite subjects.
"Viro Torpeo," she said aloud, trying out the incantation. "Viro Torpeo." Easy enough. She said the incantation a few more times then sort of trailed off as she waited for them to actually perform the magic.

After getting over his momentary sadness an disappointment,he paid attention, once again to Professor Bentley. Now they were to repeat the incantation,as a way to practice before they actually made the toadstools numb before ripping them out from their surroundings.
"Ve..Ro...Vero.. Torpeooo..Viro Torpeo.." He repeated his voice shaky after the other. But finally understanding how she had pronounced it he gave it another go Viro Torpeo.." Then it came to him. What if someone said the incantation wrong, would there be a way for them to know,or would the mistake just happen without the wand holders knowledge.
"Professor..What if someone were to say it wrong..Would there be any indication as to know that you,did it wrong?I mean..If we do it wrong,is there some sort of magical sign that will tell us we did it wrong?"

So they were going to bewitch the plants, then remove the two largest fangs from them? Of course, they couldn't remove all of their fangs otherwise they wouldn't be able to chew their food, so they wouldn't be able to eat, and would die, but one thing he didn't understand, so he raised his hand and asked.
"Professor, are the two largest fangs more valuable than the rest? If yes, how so and why?" He would imagine that the two largest fangs were the ones the toadstools used to cut off the flesh while the others were mostly intended to chew it, just like humans and most animals.
After lowering his hand he proceeded to practice the incantation for the spell. "Vee-row Tor-pay-oh, Viro Torpeo, Viro Torpeo." He said chant-like with the rest of the class, until the pronunciation sounded as correct as possible.
"It is indeed. The regular teeth are seldom used in potions as they do not possess the right qualities that fangs do. Biting toadstool fangs, are more powerful and more valluable than the teeth because they absorb more magic when feeding." They were able to penetrate deeper than teeth. The teeth just did the grunt work.

Pulling her parchment closer to herself once more, she copied down the incantation of the numbing charm. "Viro Torpeo. Viro Torpeo. Viro Torpeo." That was shockingly easy. Usually those spells were hard to pronounce. Like herbologically. She still couldn't pronounce that word.
"Professor!" She had a very good question. "Does this charm only work on toadstools?" Or like.. could she use it on Carter's legs?
Ahhh a very good question. "There variations of the Charm which enable it to be used on larger subjects, but this one is best used for small ones, plants mostly, not so much animals, they require more power."

Kourtney scribbled a few notes as Professor Bentley answered the students' questions. She'd have to write down everything if she wanted good marks on the homework, and goodness knows she needed that. She was still fairly disconcerted that each house was in the minus. It would be nice to get points for Gryffindor.
Her gaze rose from her parchment and she took note of the wand movement that the professor performed. Jab....and don't hit the toadstools. No...that wouldn't be good. They might attack or something.
Casting a wary eye towards the toadstools, she lifted her wand and tried to copy the professors exact movement. Jab! Jab! She cracked a small smile. It kind of reminded her of sword fighting like in fairy tales. En garde!

Yeah, she had this down pat. Now could they start harvesting FANGS please?! =D

That is what Janice are scared of. Fangs. She got bitten by a dog once, and had always avoided them. But to successfull in the class, she need to get her hands on those creepy little fangs.
Looking at the toadstools with interest Orchid almost didn't catch what the Professor had said, the wand movement is just a simple jab? She thought. Sounds easy enough. She smiled and then started jabbing at the general direction of the toadstools, while thinking of the incantation in her head absent mindedly.

Her head snapped up so fast she thought it might fly off her neck. She couldn't miss the movement. Otherwise she would have to go back to that dreadful charms book and try to figure out through the series of strangely combined words and punctuation how to move her hand and then she'd have to run back to the dormitory to find the book because she didn't bring it and ---------
Oh. A jab.
She blinked. That was simple.
She grinned. That was fun. It was like pretending to jab Charlie. Not much practice needed there, but she figured she may as well humor the teacher. A second more of searching and she found both her gloves and drew out her wand, jabbing the wood length several times like she was poking some annoying soul.

Isabelle thought that this lesson was fun and interesting. Carefully taking her wand she practiced jabbing it. Jab jab jab. She was afraid she would accidently spear the toadstool and was afraid that the results would be bad. Then Isabelle got a question. Raising her hand she asked, "Are the results extremely disasterous if you do the wand movement wrong?"

Jonathan took his wand. So he already knows the numbing charm, he hasn't heard of it though. Or maybe he did but he never really paid attention to. Ryu had a hard time teaching him Herbology. Oh, the summer fun for Jonathan. Yes, he learned Herbology this summer. He was afraid to fail his OWLs in this subject.
Wand is ready. Jonathan followed the professor's instructor and did the same movement with his wand. He repeated the movement several times. He is carefully watching the professor and is trying to do it as well. Although, he's not entirely sure if he is doing the correct thing. But still, practice makes perfect.

Almost looking as if she was going to spear a student, but of course she would never do that. “The wand movement is a jab,” she said, repeating the movement. “But do not make physical contact with the toadstool when you do this...” Otherwise you will regret it, though she didn’t say that bit out loud.
“Practice that a couple of times, and then I’ll show you how to harvest the fangs.” Because like everything, there was a process, sort of.
OOC: I activity will begin in approx 3-4 hours.
Kennedy looked up at the professor. He knew what it was. He was paying attention after all. "I um, I was actually talking to myself," he said as his cheeks turned red. Yep, Escalante had the tendency of reassuring himself...out loud.
Gosh, that was embarassing.
Oh! They were going to do the jab movement. Ever since Kennedy learned that one in Charms he's liked it. Jab.Jab.Jab. He took out his wand and began jabbing the air, not too hard, he didn't want to jab any of his classmates.

Sort of like dentistry.
"You are to repeat the incantation after me." She paused, then flicked her wand at the board.
"Viro Torpeo", she said in a loud clear voice. "Incantation only."
"Viro Torpeo."
Kimalia wasn't surprised her guess was incorrect, but she gave it a shot. That's what learning is for, right? Kimalia shook her mother's voice out of her head. Now she had to practice repeating a spell. Let's see.. Vi..ro..Tor..pe..o. Kimalia had written it out. "Vee-row, Tore pee-oh, no that's not right.. Vee-row Tore-pay-oh." It took her only five times before she got it. "Viro Torpeo!"
Biting toadstools. That was their very first Herbology lesson? At first she thought she had heard her wrong, but then she started talking about harvesting their teeth, wouldn't they you know, bite them? Remembering her raw hide gloves, Desiree quickly slipped them on. Okay she was ready. First she began to practice the incantation "Veroo" wait noo "Vi Ro Tor Pe O" she repeated it again "Viro Torpeo" content with the spell, she moved on to wand movement. jab, jab, jab.. this was pretty fun. Then she remembered what the spell was for as she stared warily at the man eating biting mushroom in front of her.
Did it work on anything else? Corey wondered about it. Could you, hypothetically speaking, numb someone's mouth while they were sleeping with it and then take all their teeth?
Not that he had any use for teeth mind you, but it was important, he felt, to know the possibilities.
He repeated the incantation and looked thoughtful, then when he felt he had that, moved on to practicing the wand movement.

Well that was a PITY.
Destiny was really hoping that the numbing charm they were about to learn could be used on people. She would have liked to be able to numb Carter's feet and then he wouldn't be able to catch her when she steals, because she was planning on doing it again, his Captain's badge. Unless.. he used his arms to drag himself up the stairs to catch her. Actually, she would just like to see that.
And Professor Bentley did say it worked on smaller plants. Destiny was sure Carter had toe fungus or something she could try it on. Fungus was a plant.. right?
Pulling out her wand, she watched the demonstration of the spell; a simple jab. Her favorite wand movement!
Jab. Jab. Jab. Jabjabjabjabjabjabjabjab.

They were going to harvest WHAT?!
Oh, and why couldn't that toadstool be a leaping toadstool? She had an answer for that. So she wouldn't enjoy that much this lesson. And... weren't those toadstools just going to start jumping around, biting everyone? Wasn't it too dangerous?
Anyway. Practice.
"Viro Torpeo," she kept muttering, until professor Bentley told them to move on to the wand movement only. Don't worry, she wasn't looking forward to using the spell.
Jab, jab, jab.
She also mentioned that they shouldn't make contact with anything. Oh, no. Nora wanted to stay away from those things.
