As you proceed inside the room off the Great Hall, you enter an enormous room lined with portraits of some of the greatest dueling champions, and others of bored portraits who just want to spectate. In the center of the room, there is a long royal blue stage with the phases of the moon on it, beginning with a full moon in the middle, and ending with a star on each side. In spite of its size, there is still plenty of room around the stage for students to practice spell casting with each other. The room hasn't been used in a few years so it's not in the best possible condition. There are a few broken bookshelves on both the sides, mostly empty or occupied by the resident spiders and their cobwebs, some empty trophy stands at the end of the room, and long benches similar to the ones in the great hall aligned against the wall. This room will be used for practice sessions, duels, and meetings. The room may be reserved for official duel matches.

If you wish to become a member of the Dueling Club you must familiarize yourself with the rules and find a current member of the Dueling Club to help you. You should briefly go over what took place in the meetings, and practice the spells that were emphasized. For the first meeting, it was Protego, The Shield Charm.
IC Standard Dueling Rules
Quote:
1. Bow
2. No dark magic
3. Only use magical means of combat
4. No physical contact
5. Duel until the opponent is disarmed. Mild injuries resulted by hexes, jinxes and other spells as a means to weaken and distract the opponent are inevitable and acceptable.
6. Seconds
7. No potion effects during duels
8. Wands are required. Wandless magic is not allowed; this includes apparition, shape shifting, such as animagus forms, etc.
No spells that cause severe physical injuries, such as the Fire Producing Charm, the Severing Charm, the Reductor Curse, etc.
"Hmmm, that can be arranged." The man said, still thinking, after listening to the young Ravenclaw's request. "You must familiarize yourself with all the rules," He pointed towards the board with the Standard Dueling Rules, and you must find a student, a member of the dueling club, who will be willing to help you do so." He looked around the room and gestured to all the students that were currently practicing. They were all dueling club members who could help the young Ravenclaw.
Joanna smiled gleefully, glad that the old dueling dude said that she could join the club. In her old school, she was to young to learn how to duel, so from curiosity she always sneaked into the older students dueling lessons. It looked pretty simple, but like most things in live, what looks simple usually ends up as one of the hardest thing you'll ever do, like baking. "Okay," she mumbled, turning her head towards the other students, which were practicing. She noticed Gwen, but thinking that a younger student than her will teach her how to duel will be a bit embarrassing. Hopefully she wouldn't mind.
Joanna scanned with her eyes the rest of the students, she didn't know anyone, but there were a few familiar faces, probably she knew them from the Quidditch matches or seen them in lessons. A lot of them seemed good but, only one Ravenclaw boy caught her eye. She never actually spoke with him, but somehow she knew his name began with the letter 'e'. Joanna turned her head back to the teacher (or was he a professor?), maybe he already chose someone for her.

After Eino had mastered the spell, he practiced it a few more times, but didn't really know what else to do. When he had decided to return to the Common Room, he overheard Gnaeus' conversation with the Ravenclaw girl and stepped in. "I'm done practicing, so I don't mind helping you." He offered as he put his bag back down. He didn't have anything to do, so he didn't mind helping her, plus it would help him review, too.
Ah, no duel after all. "Very well, you are welcome to practice, of course. That is what this room is for, and if you have any questions, that's what I am here for." He chuckled and winked.
"Thank you," Kennedy nodded his head. He took out his wand and tried to remember what the wand movement was. A forward slashing...hmm, that sounded familiar. He stood away from other students so he wouldn't harm anyone in case the spell went wrong.
Ready. Set. Go.
Kennedy did a forward slashing motion with his wand and at the same time said, "Verdimillious!" A few green sparks emitted from his wand and onto the ground. He was surprised that something had actually happened.
"Hello, Mister Lockhart." The man greeted the Hufflepuff Prefect with a nod. Finally, a Hufflepuff student, Gnaeus was beginning to think they had all disappeared. He trusted the boy wouldn't need much time or help to learn the spell, younger students were getting the hang of it rather quickly.
For a second there, Treyen was surprised that the man knew his name, but it was rather obvious that he would know it considering that he said it during the first meeting.
The boy smiled his way and placed his bag on the floor. And since the wand was already out, he could begin his practice, yes?
Practice on the spell that Mr. Spenser had designated for them to practice, and truth be told, Treyen had never heard of that spell until now. All the more reason to practice it, then....if he ever wanted to duel with Vashti. She was fun to duel with.
FIRST, just like Kingsley and Magnus had taught them, the motions should be made without reciting the incantation, and so he did. The slashing motion was made once his arm had decided to aim at something in front of him...as if pretending someone was in front of him.
This was slightly ridiculous, honestly, but that's how practice went, right? Slashs were made, and he supposed this is as close as one could get when holding a light saber, correct? Only Harlow would know, yes?

Arya made her way into the practice room cheerfully quiet, wand twirling between her fingers. It was new spell learning time, and maybe a bit of practice dueling if she found the right partner. Greeting portraits with smiles and wiggling her fingers at familiar faces, but not disturbing them from their own spells, she hoped up on the platform and found a free space to practice.

Okay. Now. He should try it with the incantation just to see what could be accomplish when the spell was done as it should.
And he did that same thing...once he greeted Arya with a nod the minute she stepped inside this room. It wasn't hard to miss her since she was greeting everyone in sight as she walked through the door.
But back to practice.
His arm moved forward with a slashing motion as he said, "Verdimillious!"....and green sparks were everywhere, true, but the sound they were meant to do wasn't there. "Oh, come on!" he said...to his wand, as he shook it once or twice.
He was better than a few green sparks, he knew it, but practice was necessary if improvement was wanted.

Arya decided to start her practice off with twirling her wand as she idly walked the stage, repeating the spell to herself quietly. "Verdimillious. Veeerdiiiimiiilliiious... verdimillllllioussssss..." The prefect kept this up until the word practically rolled off her tongue. She spotted her friend but otherwise left him to his practices.
She couldn't help him until she knew how to cast it too, right?
The wand movement came next. It took a bit more concentration on her part and so she stopped pacing to allow herself to preform the forward slashing motion. Slowly at first to watch the path drawn, the at a faster pace until she was comfortable with it as well.
And then came the wand movement and incantation combined.
She slashed her wand through the air in a forward motion.
"Verdimillious."

Gnaeus looked from the girl to the boy, and gave him a nod in approval. He participated in the meeting and he had spent additional time practicing. "There you have it." He turned back to the girl. "He will introduce you to the standard rules and to the Shield Charm." With that, he left the two Ravenclaw students and continued to pace around the room.

He walked past the practicing Hufflepuff prefects and gave them each a nod. "Very well done." He praised both of the hard working students. The rest of the prefects could learn a thing or two from them, these two were the ideal role models and perfect representatives for their House.

Say what?!
Very well done? Did he not notice how the spell didn't work out exactly as it should have? Either Treyen was a perfectionist when it came to this dueling stuff and getting the spells' outcome to be as expected or...the man was actually encouraging them to do better...and...was that the right way to do so? Because Treyen was going to give it another go anyway.
The slashing motion happened again at the same time he said the incantation, "Verdimillious!" yet again. And the green sparks were there...but those green sparks actually exploded a bit at the end. So, that's what supposed to happen, right?

Arya watched the green sparks she'd produced exploded with no real focused target. Then again, she didn't have a particular target. Hm. A distracted glance was spared to Spencer, along with the slightest of nods before her eyes were back on the spot where the sparks had disappeared. She supposed it was good... if he was giving out praises. But Arya wasn't satisfied with the effects.
"Verdimillious." She made a swift forward slashing motion and then took a quick step back. That was... more intent that she'd intended, but it did have the desired focus. Hm. Needed more practice.
